MARILYN MONROE SINDY 1.
SOME LIKE IT BLONDE! IN 1968, SINDY HAD A NEW LOOK AND THIS SINDY FOREVER BECOME KNOWN AS THE 'MARILYN' SINDY... Pedigree Toys had began working on some new dolls in 1967 for release the following year. They had been experimenting with head vinyls, face paints, new hair fibres and styles. The Weekender Sindy was given a makeover and came with a new softer hair fibre, and a fresher looking face. When this new 'platinum white blonde' hair fibre was styled it went very curly - and, although she was also available in brunette and auburn - she became known to collectors as the ‘Marilyn’ Sindy. The 'Marilyn' Sindy is also distinguishable by her four painted eyelashes, bright red lips and posable wire legs. The new vinyl on her face does tend to pale very badly and her fragile hair tends can go wooly. This however does not diminish her everlasting appeal.

DEAR SINDY...
before Sindy collector Patrick loves a 'damsel in distress' and couldn't wait to re-vamp Marilyn. Her hair was very 'woolley' but he feels re-rooting isn't always the answer. With a little TLC he brought her bombshell hair back. He admits it’s definitely a scary experiment when you first try the straighteners technique, but his best advice would be: Soak the hair in either fabric softener mixed with some water, or hair conditioner. It doesn’t seem to matter how long; I’ve soaked both overnight and just for a few minutes; Then rinse out and leave hair damp. Comb through the hair with a thin comb (I like a nit comb!). Turn on the straighteners until they are almost too hot to touch, then TURN THEM OFF. Work plug by plug, or with small amounts of hair. Start by spraying that section of hair with water, comb through, flick the straighteners back on for three seconds, TURN THEM OFF then work from the scalp to tip firmly but quickly, pulling the hair a little as you go, then spray with water and repeat. >>

Showgirl! To achieve Marilyn's perfect pinky skin tone (and to brighten her up), Patrick gave Marilyn Sindy a toothpaste and acne cream sun treatment.
after
... how do I get bombshell hair?
YOU WILL NEED: Mini 'needle or pencil' Hair Straighteners Comb (or nit comb!) Small water spray bottle Rollers and grips (or cut up straws)
.
Do this all over the head of hair, you might want repeat the whole process again with the fabric softener and straightening if the hair is especially frizzy. I pull the hair a little as I do it because it seems to stretch it a little. Sometimes the hair does frazzle a bit but take a breath, let it cool and if it isn’t frazzled to a pulp but seems a tad melted, you can straighten it again with cooler straighteners and lots of water. After the second straightening place hair section in a roller, or cut up straw and secure. Do this all over. Allow rollers to set overnight. In the morning remove each roller carefully and allow curls to fall into place. Hello Bombshell!
PAT'S TOP TIP: You can have the straighteners a little hotter (5/6/7 seconds before turning them off) if the hair isn’t flattening and defrizzing straight away but it is trial and hopefully not too much error. It does sound scary, but it really is so satisfying when you get the hang of it, you really get to know which era of Sindy hair can handle more or less heat or how many times. Good Luck!

POOL SET 1974 "A Pool and Ten Super Accessories" was the selling slogan on the Swimming Pool Set (S539) box. The double-ring inflatable pool was made of soft orange vinyl and could actually be filled with water (the joy that must have brought in the early 70's!). The base has a red and pink floral pattern. The poolside extras included: an inflatable lounger, two inflatable armchairs, two reversible lilo sun-beds, two swimming rings, a beach ball, and two white, turquoise and a red striped towels. It retailed for approx. £2.98 (£29 in 2022).
