When did you start collecting Sindy and why? I started collecting Sindy in lockdown in 2021 when I saw a Facebook post about Kid Kreations new Collectable Sindy. Reading about the release, it reminded me as a child I’d always wanted a Sindy but, the closest I got was owning an Action Girl by Palitoy. It was given to me at Christmas in 1975, I insisted she was my Action Man’s girlfriend LOL and I use to make her fashions myself. How do you find the Sindy collector community? I find the Sindy Community gives me great joy and comfort. I have made some wonderful friends since I started taking photos of my girls and posting them on social media. What is the most prized/treasured piece in your collection? My Shaping up 1985 Sindy of which I named Veronique. I have created her into a bit of a style icon. She’s not the most expensive doll in my collection but, I love her dearly. (In fact she has become such an icon she is making her debut in this issue as a new Mam'selle style columnist, see pg. 24) What is missing from your collection or, what are you lusting after? Definitely Sindy’s friend Gayle by Marx Toys. If anyone would like to gift me one I would be over the moon! LOL

"I love that buzz you get when you find a doll or fashion that you have be wanting for ages." Kevin House Are you an out-of-the-box or mint-in-box collector? and why? Oh I'm definitely an out of the box collector but, it has to be in a minty condition because I enjoy photographing Sindy so much. What's your favourite Sindy year? and why? 1975 when Lovely Lively Sindy was produced. At the the age of eight I used to see her in my local toy shop and dreamed of owning one! Do you have a favourite Sindy/outfit/scene setter? and why? I love Sunshine Girl (1977). I have one NRFB and it makes me smile when I look at it - as it’s so stylish and very typical of the 1970’s My favourite scenesetter has to be 1972/73 Sindy Super Show. I can send my Blonde Trendy Girl down the catwalk

as she spins around in various fashions. Do you have a Sindy budget? How do you manage this - as it is so easy to overspend? I allow myself a set amount each month out of my wages, that I spend on Sindy. Have I ever dipped into my savings? - occasionally if I see a ‘must have over my budget? What do you think? LOL

MEET THE COLLECTORS INTERVIEW
What’s the best and worst part of collecting Sindy Dolls? The best is the buzz you get when you find a doll or fashion that you have be wanting for ages. The worst is being outbid on an auction sale. Any tips for Sindy Collectors? (What to look for, where to look, how to find a bargain etc) If you love the look of her then buy her. Keep up-to-date with the current market prices and then you’ll know whether it’s a bargain or not!

career.
I
have
developed her into a fashionista as I’ve gone along, and now she’s a bit of a Sindy celebrity on my Instagram account! LOL I admire the wonderful sense of style that French woman have, hence where her name is from. She is my favourite but that’s top secret in the Sindy cupboard!

BY @STYLEMYSINDY
DEAR SINDY...
before Mam'selle Craft Editor Jane and founder of @stylemysindy shows us how she brought the classic 1981 Wall of Sound bang up to date. Jane already had a Wall of Sound and got another one in a bundle that was beyond repair. The electronics were broken - so rather than throw it away she decided to give it a modern makeover, so she could use it in her doll photography scenes. Here's what she did... Undo all the screws and take apart all pieces of the wall of sound. Remove wiring and discard. Remove the cardboard backing but keep hold of it to make a template. Pop out the record player, the fireplace, the chimney and gently prise off the phone. Remove any stickers, clean and dry all the pieces you are going to spray paint and spray using several light coats to build up the coverage in a well ventilated area. Allow to dry. Use the printed cardboard backing to trace a template on to the card, cut out and cover with wrapping paper. Replace in the back of the Wall of Sound. 30 | MAM'SELLE MAGAZINE
after
Before reassembling, poke the end of string of lights through the hole in the back near the battery compartment through to the front. Unscrew the bottom of the fire grate and wrap the lights up and secure inside the fire place. Reassemble all parts of the Wall of Sound. If you have resprayed the phone, you will need to replace the cord in the earpiece and fix it into place under the phone. You will most probably have to glue this back into place with superglue. Decorate and style with mini items from your collection.
... help me update my Wall of Sound? Good Idea! If the lid is missing from your record player, look for a replacement clear lid amongst your household objects, clear bead boxes or pin boxes may be just the right size to make a new cover
Craft Editor Tip: The phone was missing the ear and mouthpiece so I just replaced with one from a broken phone in my collection of spares and sprayed them so they matched. You can buy similar phones on Etsy and eBay and Ali Express you could glue in place of the original.
YOU WILL NEED: Retro wrapping paper or wallpaper 2 pieces of A4 card Spray paints in your choice of colours Battery operated mini light string Pencil, double sided tape, craft knife, superglue MAM'SELLE MAGAZINE |31

CAMPING SCENE 1978 Sindy loves nothing better than the great outdoors and in 1977 she got a new large framed orange tent with this Camping Scene (44577) set. In previous years she had an inflatable tent, so this cloth covered one was definitely an upgrade for the more serious camper. With a separate sleeping area -she had a quilted sleeping bag and for dining al-fresco it came with camping table and a folding chair. The picnic set had dining accessories for two. Note to friends: bring your own sleeping bags and chairs!
