If you were a child in 1985 there's no doubt that these four outfits would have been scribbled on your Christmas list, or circled in the Argos catalogue.

The Emanuel Collection for Sindy was a high point for Sindy fans and continueover 35 years after they debuted - to delight collectors today. Why? Maybe because they symbolise a moment in time when the over-the-top 1980s meant pure glamour, or perhaps the sheer delight of having a designer outfit for a doll (which today is more of a normal occurrence), or most likely it's the everlasting appeal of being able to dress Sindy in a gown by the very same designers that had created princess-in-waiting Lady Diana Spencer's wedding gown for her 1981 marriage to the Prince of Wales.

Design duo Elizabeth and David Emanuelwho were married at the time - would likely admit the 'Diana' dress was a defining moment in their fashion career. Their profiles soared and they became household names So, it was only fitting that Sindy wanted some bespoke outfits by the hottest designers of the decade.

Fit for a Princess...

The 'Elegance by Emanuel' Emanuel Collection of four classic ballgowns were launched in 1985 Sold in window box presentation packs, these designs were completed with matching shoes and accessories.

'High Society' (43131)

A fuchsia pink satin dress with a matching cape The dress had an integral pale pink net underskirt and both dress and cape were trimmed with a deep frill and bows. It came with matching pink heels and a single strand diamante necklace

'Scarlet Lady' (43132)

A scarlet gown with a black velvet bodice trimmed with a neck frill and bow at the waist. Dramatically paired with a velvet hooded cloak that was lined in the same red satin fabric Completed with a matching velvet clutch bag with a scarlet tassel and red heels.

'Romantica' (43133)

A honey silk double-tiered gown with a net underskirt The fashionable scoop neckline had a pleated frill trim that ribbon tied at the back. This was set off with a matching shoulder wrap, heels, a single strand diamante necklace and hair comb

'Misty Mauve' (43134)

A three-tiered mauve taffeta skirt with a lilac net underskirt. The 'sweetheart' neckline velvet bodice was adorned with a lilac rosebud Finishing the look was a luxurious black velvet opera coat lined with the same taffeta fabric. Matching lilac heels finished the ensemble

DEAR SINDY...

Jules, from @sindydollpics shares her how-to:

1) Wash hair using washing-up liquid (I use eco as that's what I have at home) and then rinse. Repeat. Do for a third time if hair is really smelly!

2) Massage in fabric conditioner, then comb out all the knots while the conditioner is in the hair. Take small sections and start at the bottom then work up to the root.

3) When you've done the whole head rinse under warm water. (If you've used a good quality fabric conditioner you may have to use a tiny amount of washing-up liquid to get it out as it can leave the hair heavy, sticky and greasy).

4) Heat up some mini straighteners until it is just hot enough for your thumb to bearthen SWITCH THEM OFF! Then test a tiny tip of hair - WITH THEM OFF!

5) Take small sections of hair, turning the straighteners on and off for four seconds at a time They do vary, so yours may need different timings

6) When you have completed all the hair straightening - this can take ages if it is in really bad condition - but, have patience , it will be worth it.

7) When finished, spritz with water and comb through Then take sections and put on end papers and pin sections with perming rollers.

8) Let hair dry for two days.

"I don’t boil perm older dolls as I've found they don’t really need it - I only boil perm re-roots. This is just my method and how I like to do things."
