elcome to the biggest and best August issue of Marbella Rocks, where we give you 2 exclusive fashion shoots as you work out what to wear in this 40 degree heat…. we are not complaining though! Among them is Magic Bodywear, a fabulous new capsule collection from the talented Brit designer Gail Berry and new luxury evening wear brand Désirée by model Izabela Switon-Kulinka. Elsewhere, we have an exclusive interview with the cast of new ITV Show Life on Marbs. You may have noticed the 60 plus cast and crew on location filming here over the past 10 weeks, well now’s your chance to meet them. There will be drama (of course, its from the makers of TOWIE and Hollyoaks) but more importantly there will be array of colourful characters to feast your eyes on from all walks of life including a self made millionaire to a single mum and nightclub owner. If you’re stuck on where to go, there is a whole plethora of exciting events happening in and around Marbella this month. See our Calender and What’s On pages for the best days and nights out from Malaga to Gibraltar. We highly recommend Spandau Ballet at Puente Romano, The Martinez Brothers at Aqwa Mist, DJ Colin Francis at Tibu and Lionel Richie at Starlite. Plus if you haven’t already checked it out sample the finest cocktails in Marbella at Freudenhaus (check out Rock Out on page 24). Plus, the best thing about August in Marbella is it’s too hot to cook (or that’s the reason I give!) so readers go out and make the most of all the fantastic restaurants for you to choose from! There are 3 terrific ones tried and tested this month - Mariposa, De Medici and Plaza Beach - so there will be something for everyone in this gastronomy special. Till next time, Sam

SPLITSVILLE FOR KOURTNEY & SCOTT
The parting of Kourtney Kardashian and her lothario baby daddy Scott Disick has been on the cards for a long time now. So it was no surprise when Kourtney announced she was kicking Scott out of their family home a few weeks ago. According to a source close to the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, “Kourtney is more angry and disappointed than sad. She has been let down by Scott many times in the past, but she is done this time.” The inciting incident behind the separation came after several months of hard partying when Scott was caught getting cosy with stylist Chloe Bartoli in France. Scott has since missed his daughter Penelope’s third birthday and moved to a bachelor pad in Beverly Hills. It is not known for sure whether Scott will return to Keeping Up With The Kardashians or if he will have a new reality show. Recent reports have indicated Scott, 32, maybe about to feature in a ‘real-life Entourage’ program for Bravo in the US. Meanwhile, Kourtney is putting on a brave face and been making her children a priority, taking them on regular family outings. Kourtney and Scott had been together for 9 years and have a son and two daughters: Mason (5), Penelope (3) and 7 month old Reign.
everyone’s talking about... CHERYL EATING LIKE A HORSE
Simon Cowell has stuck up for his fellow X Factor judge Cheryl by claiming she is “eating like a horse”. Cheryl was blasted on social media when she turned up to Day 1 of the auditions sporting a very tiny frame, almost skeletal in comparison to her normal healthy figure. Insisting the media reaction has been more to do with ‘concern’ than ‘criticism’ over Cheryl, Simon told The Sun, “This is not someone who’s trying to make herself thin. “I think she did pick up a bug. And I think the way she’s approaching what was addressed about her weight in a very open way - by saying she is thin and is trying to put on weight - is great.”
JAKE AND JESY ENGAGED
Rixton star Jake Roche and Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson got engaged at Manchester Arena, serenaded by none other than Jake’s pal Ed Sheeran. Jake, the son of Coleen Nolan and Shane Richie, went down on one knee to propose to the brunette singer on July 19th. It was even more touching as the couple had met at Manchester Arena one year previously. Ed Sheeran played the guitar and sung the couple’s favourite song during the proposal. A few hours later a
beaming Jesy took to the stage to perform with Little Mix at the Key 103 Summer Live Show. Her stunning engagement ring was clearly visible as she clasped her microphone. After thanking his fans and fiance for accepting his proposal, Jake also thanked Ed on Twitter for making an extra special effort to sing for them on his day off. He wrote: “Travelled 5 hours to sing our favourite song on his day off. I will never ever be able to repay you. Love you pal. @ edsheeran”

MAN DIES IN DEMI MOORE’S POOL
Demi Moore has revealed she’s in “absolute shock” after a man was found dead in her swimming pool. In a statement, the Ghost actress said: “I am in absolute shock. MEDITERRANEAN CHICKEN WITH PEPPERS & FETA For a tasty summer lunch or dinner, this Mediterranean roast chicken with peppers, chickpeas, vegetables and Greek feta cheese is delicious and healthy.
INGREDIENTS ●1 garlic bulb, separated into ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●
cloves, 3 crushed, remainder left whole 2 tbsp chopped oregano 2 lemons, juice of 1, the other cut into wedges 4 tbsp olive oil 1 chicken (about 1.6kg/3lb 8oz) 3 large red peppers, deseeded and cut into large chunks 3 small red onions, cut into wedges 4 courgettes, cut into thick wedges 3 tbsp chopped mint, plus a few sprigs to serve 2 00g pack feta cheese, crumbled into chunks 400g can chickpeas, drained Crusty bread, to serve (optional)
DIRECTIONS 1. Heat the oven to 200C/Gas
mark 6. Mix the crushed garlic
and oregano with the lemon juice and 3 tbsp of the oil to make a dressing. Season. Make a few slashes in each chicken leg, then put the chicken in a large roasting tin and rub with 2 tbsp of the dressing. Stuff the squeezed lemon shells inside the body cavity. Roast for 30 minutes. 2. Meanwhile, tip the peppers, onions, whole garlic cloves and courgettes into a large bowl, and toss with the remaining oil and some seasoning. After 30 minutes, pile the veg around the chicken, drizzle with half the remaining dressing and roast for 1 hr. 3. Remove the chicken from the oven, lift onto a platter, cover with foil and leave to rest. Check the roasting tin, and if the chicken has rendered a lot of fat, pour it off, skim and return the juices to the tin. 4. Stir the lemon wedges, mint, feta, chickpeas and remaining dressing through the veg and juices, then return to the oven for 10 minutes to warm through. Pile around the chicken, scatter with mint sprigs and serve with bread to mop up the juices.
WINE MATCH When talking about matching a wine with risotto there is no specific rule about which wine, however it’s a delicate and creamy sort of dish which is served among the primi (first courses) on an Italian menu so would therefore suit a white better than a red. It also suits wines typical of the northern half of Italy rather than the south, particularly the Piedmont area which points to a white of that region. The best match would be a zesty, flavourful variety, a spectacular Gavi di Gavi, La Minaia, which is fresh, dry and has fragrances of apple and pear. If you prefer red then a fruity Italian tends to work well with mushroom risotto. Staying in the Piedmont area, I have chosen a Dolcetto d’Alba ´Colombe´, Renato Ratti, a wine with great intensity and character, with notes of plum and mature cherries.
They have done it again! The cast of Fast and Furious have given us another adrenaline packed, thrilling explosive experience as we watch vehicles sky-dive into Azerbaijan, along with milliondollar roadsters leaping from the windows of skyscrapers in Abu Dhabi for their latest offering. The explosions, car chases, fist fights and stunts are all bigger and crazier than ever. One particular gut-twisting scene in the 7th film features Paul Walker walking across the roof of a bus which is balancing on a collapsing cliff edge. It is moments like these that leave viewers on the edge of their seats and gasping for more. Although the series has always been something audiences have gone to view for an action packed experience, the emotion of the 7th film has brought many to tears (our finance director Arthur Nichols being one of them!) Following the devastating news of Paul Walker´s death in November 2013, the team of Fast and Furious have had the challenge of finishing off the film without him. Together with the help of Paul’s two younger brothers the team have created an incredibly honorable and deserved farewell to Walker. Particularly when this movie finishes off a scene that began 10 years ago in Tokyo Drift. It is not worth spoiling it so we won´t say anymore, other than that there is no denying that this film is definitely worth watching. ROCKS RATING:

The Weekend was expected to release an album this year, but many have been shocked by the fact it is coming out so soon. On the 28th of this month The Weekend will be releasing Beauty Behind the Madness, a follow-up to the 2013 album Kiss Land. The singles I Can’t Feel My Face, Often and The Hills will be featuring in Beauty Behind the Madness, along with 11 other tracks. Often and The Hills are very chilled out tracks, giving the impression that the album is going to be slightly R&B based. However the genre changes with I Can’t Feel My Face, which is a very commercial and up beat song. So there is really no knowing what to expect from The Weekend this year. Completely out of the blue, on the 9th of July this year The Weekend tweeted an image of the albums artwork and a confirmation that the album was available to pre order. After that it has been nothing but anticipation for the release this month. The art work does not feature the name of his album, instead The Weekend has chosen a scrunched, torn up black and white portrait of himself. So far the three singles we have heard have lived up to expectation, so we are looking forward to seeing what the rest of the album has to offer later this month. ROCKS RATING:
THE MARBELLA PROJECT The Marbella Project is a high octane thriller about a man’s quest for vengeance following the brutal murder of his son by the Russian mafia on the Costa del Sol. The Spanish police seem powerless to act so central character Dan Green decides to take matters into his own hands. Dan is no ordinary father however. Previously in the SAS, he gets himself fit, recruits one of his former comrades and embarks on his revenge mission. The action is set mainly in Spain but switches to Moscow and London as the two sides chase each other across Europe. Besides Dan, the other characters who feature are Viktor Durchenko, the head of the Russian family, Vitaly Petrov, his feared right hand man, Luis Mendez, a former police officer who helps Dan, and Dana, the owner of a fetish boutique in Puerto Banus whose path crosses with Dan’s. The Costa del Sol is an area with which author Nigel James is intimately familiar as he has a home in Elviria he frequently visits. Those familiar with Marbella will recall a lot of the nightspots and areas mentioned in the story. Nigel believes Marbella is the perfect fit as the glamorous and exciting backdrop for most of the action. We would have to agree. ROCKS RATING:

We really enjoy holding different events. I can´t tell you too much as I don´t want to spoil the surprise but we are looking into doing another live arts night. Last year we did a graffiti night where a famous artist sprayed a 10 metre sheet of clingfilm.
Are you thinking of holding any other events?

Tillisoo to find out all about the famous bar, its inner workings and plans for the future.
How does it feel to be one year in?
We survived, Freudenhaus survived! It´s been very interesting. There are many things that can go wrong with setting up a business like this but we have done it in the end and have built up a great client base.
What are the highlights of running Freudenhaus?
It has to be the clients who are coming regularly and are loving what we are doing. They say we are different, the quality is good and they keep coming back.
What is your favourite cocktail? I´m a huge gin fan so it would have to be any of our gin based cocktails. We also use a lot of ginger, the “star of the show” here at Freudenhaus, giving plain cocktails a real kick!
You run regular promo nights, can you tell our
Yes. We are planning to do Cigar and Whisky nights, Wine and Food and Fashion Shows, probably with an upmarket jewellery or a hat brand. As usual with Freudenhaus it´ll be something different with a bit of a twist!
Freudenhaus is German for “House of Pleasure” and your risqué décor definitely reflects that. Would you consider opening more bars?
We are still only one year in so we´ll have to wait and see. However we have already done great business with our mobile mixology bar. Clients can now have Freudenhaus cater for their special events, birthdays, anniversaries. Similarly Freudenhaus is available for private hire and corporate events.

A
s rumours the 32-year-old rapper is getting engaged to new rapper boyfriend Meek Mill, have emerged, amid a 15-carat yellow diamond heart ring, Nicki Minaj has said “not yet” but hinted it won’t be long before she takes the plunge. “We are not engaged yet, the ring was just a gift,” she said. “I wish every day could be as special as that day.” Daily social media snaps show the couple are very much in love. Mill, 28, can’t seem to take his hands off the pretty, Trinadadian-born singer and songwriter whom he’s been dating since April. Minaj was even rumoured to be pregnant when Mill said in an interview that he wished Minaj was with a child, Yahoo! News reported. But the female rapper clarified on her Twitter that she would not be pregnant before marrying Mill. At 32, Minaj has always wanted a large family so it is inevitable that she will be tying the knot soon and going down the child road. She comes from a large, close-knit family herself and has always wanted to replicate this. She has two brothers whom she is very close with and regularly visits in Queens, New York. Currently on a US tour of the fabulous Pink Print, Nicki’s schedule has been a hectic one and she’s sworn to take some time off come August 19th when she does her last gig in Canada. Although luckily for her it has not been a lonely tour as Mill has been a supporting act on Pink Print as the duo jet around the US. A holiday, a ring and a pregnancy?!! Nicki doesn’t do things by halves so expect some juicy gossip hitting our Celebrity News pages soon.
DOUBLE PLATINUM
NICKI MINAJ WEDDING BELLE??!

And no we’re not talking about ‘that’ ring! Nicki has absolutely smashed her US record sales, getting the highest accolade, Double Platinum for more than 2 million record sales of Only featuring Lil Wayne, Drake and Chris Brown in April this year. Last year Anaconda was also certified Double Platinum by the RIAA. Within a few years of her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, she solidly established herself in Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment camp and was rapping on songs alongside artists like Robin Thicke, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and Kanye West. So let me get this straight/ Wait, I’m the rookie?/ But my features and my shows 10 times your pay?/ 50K for a verse/ No album out!, she announced in her benchmark verse on West’s Monster. This woman is gutsy and not afraid to tell it like it is. Probably another reason for her unrelenting staying power. Insiders say a collaboration with Nicki is both a surefire hit and a gamble—to this day, she often dwarfs the huge artist she’s featured alongside. Her rapping is also extremely distinctive for its fast flow and the use of alter egos and accents, primarily British cockney. Minaj is also widely known for her colourful costumes, wigs and jewellery. She stands out from the plethora of rappers out there today and anyone who is anyone is clawing to work with her.

But it’s not exactly where my heart lies.” Her first foray into acting was voicing the comical character Steffie in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.
relationship with Nicki over false claims he cheated. Safaree’s friends say they’re scared these are more than idle threats. News of the ring and a pregnancy on the way may not be exactly what Samuels wanted to hear but slowly he is trying to rebuild his life. According to reports last week he may be appearing in a new reality TV show on VH1 and has been getting very close to lingerie model Zashia Santiago, so hopefully Safaree is on the mend now.
THE OTHER MAN
Nicki is an entrepreneur at heart and like any good businesswoman she is constantly finding new ways to connect with her varied audiences, whether it’s via music, campaigns for brands including Pepsi, Moscato, MAC Cosmetics and K-Mart or even producing bottles of perfume shaped like her more than ample bust! She knows how to market herself! Nicki has been described by pals as “a tough cookie”, “smart businesswoman” and a “little bit crazy”. She is definitely here to stay. From sell-out tours, to movies, to rap collaborations anything Nicki seems to touch turns to gold including our front cover.
Before meeting Mill, Nicki was dating rapper Safaree Samuels for 12 years. Both rappers lived in New York and many believed they would walk down the aisle. It is widely known that Samuels has been an emotional wreck over the break-up with Nicki. He’s became a recluse, spending days and nights in smoking weed and has also talked openly about suicide. Safaree is telling friends he won’t get in touch with Nicki because she’s now hooked up with Mill. He admits “it’s torture” for him, because he believes Mill destroyed his

The
Martinez Brothers R
aised in the Bronx in New York, the Martinez Brothers tale is a classic rags to riches one. Chris and Steven were introduced to music at a young age through their Puerto Rican pastor father. He first involved them in a church band before getting them out on the dance music scene. Their Dad was a frequenter of Paradise Garage and there was constantly house music playing in the family home at an early age.
32 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 13
Steve, the elder of the brethren, recalls doing parties with his Dad as a teenager. “We would rent a dance studio with wooden floors, take our sound system, throw a jam and then go to school the next day. We called them tea parties as they went from 6pm to 12am. Sunday Tea Parties.” As is the norm with most teenagers the boys were keen on social media. Chris was a fan of MySpace at the time and connected with house music legend Dennis
Rocking Aqwa Mist 27/08/15 Ferrer through the network which lead to the boys playing in their most famous gig to date, New York´s famous Shelter nightclub. They were baby-faced boys at the time but their DJ set went down a storm. By 2008 they had regular gigs all over the US whilst still having to keep up with their school work. Chris said in a recent interview with DJ Mag it was tough going. “Honestly, I couldn´t take school seriously at that point. I´m not saying
it´s not necessary to do school but I already had my career going. I knew what I wanted to do. Coming home from the gigs on the weekends and on Monday going to school, I was wiped all the time.” Steve found things a bit easier as his college course only required a few classes a week. He did business admin but admits it was just a generic major when kids don´t know what to pick! So when Chris finished his
schooling in 2010 the boys were ready to take the world by storm.
EUROPEAN VACATION
Clubs don´t get more famous than DC10 in Ibiza and that´s where the boys signed up to their European residency in 2011. Now every year, from May to October Ibiza is their home, allowing the duo to do various gigs and festivals around Europe including Rock in Rio in Lisbon, Lovebox
in London and Creamfields in Liverpool. In fact the Bronx-Brethren became so popular on the European house music circuit that leading music magazine Mixmag named them DJ´s of the Year last year in their annual round up. “No other DJ or duo encapsulate house music like the crown princes of DC10,” the mag wrote. The boys still hold their DC10 residency and use the hedonistic island as a base to travel to further

The Martinez Brothers have recently partnered with fellow New York City cohorts Jesse Calosso and Blas Cordero for the Masters at Dutch project, a free 10 track EP dedicated to their fans. “We made these tracks while we were off,” the brothers said. “We wanted to thank all our

So we’re giving you a collection of tracks for free download so you can check out what we’ve been up to.” The EP is a collection of club-ready tech house cuts, interspersed with intros, outros and interludes, adding a hip-hop touch to the release.

estival season comes around quick - and with it the default wardrobe staples of denim shorts, floral wreath headbands, beads and the like. But we’ve been there, done them - and for far too long. It’s time to change the dress code and approach festival season with fresh eyes and a new look (and we don’t deny that might be hard to do considering fashion’s affection for the Seventies and hippy bohemia right now - but it can be done). The days are getting warmer and our lunchtimes longer as we try to escape the office for our slice of early summer. And our weekends? Well, they are about to be spent knee-deep in mud, rocking in a mosh pit and be free... It’s summer music festival season! Every year around this time, thousands of music lovers prepare to flock to locales across Europe for weekend-long celebrations of peace, love and cutoffs. There were no specific rules regarding attire except that, since having high self-esteem is “in”, you just wear your best things, The problem with drawing inspiration from celebs at Coachella is that you don’t (presumably) have a stylist, or access to VIP lounges where a makes-up artist will reapply your lipstick. I have no idea if this is what actually what goes on in VIP lounges, but the point is,
most festivals are not like Coachella. I have a suspicion that most of the music festival fashion guides I’ve seen are written by people who have never attended a camping music festival (one-day VIP passes to Governor’s ball don’t count) like Roskilda or Firefly. It’s easy to flaunt a boho-chic ensemble at a VIP event, but try finding a way to make your yellow rain poncho look cute. Real music-festival style is about cozy layers, artfully clashing colours, and avoiding that guy who is covered in mud and trying to give everyone hugs. Here are my tips for nailing it.
1. Figure out a layering strategy Festivals are notorious for unpredictable weather. You’ll want to have options for cold, rainy nights and 40 degree days. I love slogan tees (like the one pictured here). If it gets nippier later on I just layer on a long sleeve t-shirt for -- they’re lightweight, so you won’t get too hot. I usually buy a size too big, so I easily slip it on over my T-shirt. Similarly if you´re too hot wear a bandeau top under your slogan and if you´re too hot slip the T-shirt off and poke in your pocket.
2. Don’t bring a “real” bra unless you have to I might be biased because I am an A-cup, but underwire bras have no place at a music festival (or any part of my life). There’s a reason bandeau bras are so popular. They’re comfortable, and you can
wear them as a top without being judged. Bralettes -- bandeaus with straps -- are ideal, because you can dance all you want without worrying that the thing is going to slide down your stomach. My favorite is a halter bralette from Vs. The halter strap looks cute peaking out from a tank, or underneath another bralette if you want more coverage.
3. Wear some REALLY comfortable shoes
If you’re going to be walking and dancing for three or four days - don’t wear impractical shoes. Most festivals are set up with a considerable amount of distance between the stages and the campsites, and when you are traipsing back and forth at night, comfort will trump style. Flip flops or Merrells are a good bet. They’re not the cutest, but they’ll be covered in so much mud that it won’t matter. I wore my favorite sneakers to my first festival, and destroyed them racing back and forth from artist to artist. (It was worth it.)
4. Remember, rain boots are your friend!
I’ve never been to a festival where it didn’t pour for a day straight. Last year, at Wakarusa, there was mud literally up to my knees. Rain boots (or wellies, if you like that word as much as I do) will save you at a festival. You can go with a playful print, like any funky coloured boots like the ones pictures here, or you
could stick to the classics. My Hunter boots have gotten me through four festivals, and many rainy days in between. They’re still in great condition. Check the seam on the back of the boot, though. My shorter Hunters have a more pronounced seam, and it dug into my heel. Not good, especially for dancing! Fortunately, Dr. Scholls inserts solved the problem for me.
5. Dress up during the day (and down at night)
There’s going to be down time during the day. That’s when you should show off your more fashionforward pieces. Jewellery and fringe bandeaus can be a burden when you’re trying to dance, but not when you’re lounging at the campsite. I’ve noticed a lot of girls will wear gym shorts and a bikini top during the day, and flaunt belly-chains and maxi dresses at night. I’d rather do the opposite. If you really want to show off your elaborate bodysuit, wear it while you check out the vendors in between sets, not when you are drunk and trying to use a port-a-loo at 2am. For evening, find an outfit that’s trendy but leaves you unfettered to dance, harem pants are a good option lightweight, comfortable, and sexier than sweats. Fergie wore a great pair out to a recent Fesival (as pictured here). H&M, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and Zara have a great selection. If you’re not into harem pants, tons of stores offer patterned fashion pants that are a bit more fitted. I’m obsessed with the current range from Topshop. Worth checking out.

6. Fake fur funks up your outfit
Keep warm on top when the nights get cold with a faux-fur vest. Choose one that’s long, and has some type of closure. Depending on how cool it gets, you can layer it over a sweater or flannel and still look chic.
7. Have fun with your hair and make-up
Normally, I can’t go one day without washing my hair before it turns into a greasy mess. For some reason, this doesn’t happen at a festival, despite not being able to take a real shower for days. Call it festival magic, or the benefits of using dry shampoo. I usually will rinse off with a spray bottle (shower wrist-bands are 20€ for a cold, communal shower) at least once a day, and put a little leave-in conditioner on the ends. I end up with silky, voluminous hair without much effort. It’s incredibly easy to tease unwashed hair, as well. I like to experiment with big buns or headbands. American Apparel makes a wire headband that you can bend into different shapes. It stays in place, and comes in tons of colours

and patterns. As far as make-up, I am usually a minimalist. But at a festival, it’s fun to experiment! I’m not brave when it comes to lipstick, but I plan on trying one that my friend swears by - Urban Outfitters’ Lime Crime. It comes in classic shades, as well as orange, blue, and bubble gum pink. It’s smudge proof, and stays on all day. For eyeliner, you will want something waterproof. Urban Decay makes a great smudgeproof eyeliner, and it comes in a bunch of metallic shades. Use an eye-shadow palate, to get sultry, Beyonce-worthy smoky eyes. (Disclaimer: while these products are pricy, they last way longer than drug-store make-up. I’ve had my Bare Minerals eye palate for two years.)

The right foundation will make you look like you’re not wearing any foundation at all. Concealer is always used afterwards if necessary. Paint blemishes with a small brush dipped in concealer or foundation, or pat on concealer with your ring finger; dab the blemishes gently until they have softened or with any luck, disappeared. Do not rub.
UNDER-EYE CONCEALING
The application of under eye concealer is the most important step in any make-up routine. Concealer is the one product that, when chosen and applied correctly, can instantly lift and brighten the face. Choose a colour one to two shades lighter than the foundation. The skin under they eye is very thin, so the blue of the fine veins just under the surface tend to show through. A light yellowtoned concealer masks this discolouration and brightens the skin. For those with alabaster skin, a porcelain toned concealer will work. When a regular concealer cannot fully lighten the under eye area, a peach or pink corrector is used to counter the purple or green tone. A regular yellow toned concealer is usually lightly layered over the corrector to lighten the under eye area. Set the concealer in place with a sheer loose powder, either yellow toned or white-toned powder.
SCULPT YOUR CHEEKBONES
Suck in those cheeks ladies, and using a large, flat brush, sweep over their hollows with a small amount of bronzer for even distribution. Beige if you have fair
A brighter shade such as soft pink is great for evening. When using bronzer, layer the pop colour on top. Smile and only apply to the apples of the cheeks and softly blend it so it melts into the skin on the cheekbones. A powder puff, fingers or the left overs on your foundation brush can be used to soften and correct a heavy application.
LIPS
Dark red lips are the easiest way to get glamorous for a big night out. It instantly transforms your entire look and yet it’s so simple. For super sexy and sophisticated dark lips Burgundy colour is the right choice for an elegant pout! Use a lip pencil that matches the natural color of the lips or the lipstick. Line the lips to be bow shaped and completely fill in the lips. This base will hold lip colour in place. Layer lipstick on top. A bit of powder or blush patted on top of lipstick will keep it on longer. Note darker colour starting at the outer part of the lips adds depth, a lighter shade increasing the further it goes into the lips makes them look fuller.

EYES
Put a folded tissue under lower lashes to avoid loose eyeshadow particles on your cheeks. Use a light shadow in skintone colour as a base on the lids, apply it with a full shadow brush that covers the entire lid from lash line to brow bone. This step creates a clean slate for the other shadows. Next, choose a soft peachy or champagne shadow with just a touch of shine and apply across the lid, up to the eye socket. Add an egg white shimmer shadow to the inner corner of the eye for a playful glow. Trace the upper lash line with a dark grey kohl pen, and just on the outer corner on the lower lash line for
76 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 13
more intensity. Follow this by a taupe or golden shade along your lash line and diffuse on the outer third of the eye in a sideways V-shape up into your crease. Never take the eyeshadow further than the end of the eyebrows. For beauty, stick within an imaginary line from the outer corner of your eye to the end of the brows, this creates an instant lift to your face. If you want to create depth or contour, choose a slightly deeper medium toned shadow to sweep in the crease of the eye. Crease contour creates definition and can make a stronger eye statement for evening. Begin the shadow at the outside edge of the crease,
and move inward with your brush, smudge-blending the edges of the powder together. Softly layer the shadow, repeating and blending until you achieve the desired effect. Luscious eyelashes makes the eyes all the more rigorous and exciting. All you need is an eyelash curler and you start by curling your lashes. After that, use a volumising and lengthening mascara. The key is, you need to coat the top of your eyelashes too. You’ll be amazed at the result. Caress the lashes with a thick layer of ebony mascara and there’s no need for falsies. Doing these steps creates sultry smoky eyes with a hint of elegance and class.

ISABEL LUCAS
CARA DELEVINGNE
Model of the moment Isabel was rocking beachy, disheveled hair during a recent festival. This works perfectly with her grown out ombre colour and her halo flower crown. To recreate this look I recommend using a fantastic new product from the Redken Range called Fashion Waves. It is a texturising sea spray mist that you put onto damp hair and allow to air dry, giving a perfect messed up beachy look.
Stunning supermodel Cara carries off laid back chic better than anyone else on the festival circuit. Her look here involves creating loose waves from the mid to ends of hair and brushing out waves. To make the look stand the heat of a festival add flexible defining cream like Redken Loose Endings before styling. Finish the look with an on-trend hat like Cara´s or a flower crown or turban are still really on point this summer.
RITA ORA
BLAKE LIVELY
A scraped back topknot is another great idea for a festival or any other hot summer night here in Spain. Spritz hair with a firm hold hairspray and brush into a ponytail at the top of your head. Then simply tie the hair in a knot and secure with grips. What´s perfect about this look is its best on unwashed hair so if you´re doing a two or three-day festival, this is an ideal look for the latter part.
Messy interwoven braids are a cool and easy look to recreate look this summer. Gorgeous mum of one Blake wore hers with one large unkempt fishtail braid and lots of smaller plaits intertwined with pulled out loose strands. Although this looks complicated it´s not… the key is to be a bit free spirited with it and go with a minimal effort look and just a few extra plaits.
KATE BOSWORTH Superman actress Kate was killing it at Coachella this year with this edgy plaited parting look. You can recreate the look by taking a section of hair approximately an inch wide from behind either side of your ears then twisting it before plaiting down the centre of your parting. Secure with a small band or kirby grip at the back of your head.
LOVING THE ALEXA CHUNG Festival queen Alexa Chung was sporting these beautiful braids at a recent festival outing. (One of the four festivals she´s notched up already this summer.) Bohemian yet cute and girly, this look is better suited on women under 40 to avoid “the mutton as lamb” glances from fellow festival goers!
Redken have just launched a new range of styling products called Signature Look, which I´m pleased to say we are now stocking in Bliss Hair and Beauty. Loose Endings is
LOVING THE NEW REDKEN RANGE NEW REDKEN RANGE a flexible defining cream applied to towel dried hair and diffused or air-dried for separated curls. Another product from their great range is called Pillow Proof Blow Dry; the two-day extender comes in an easy to use aerosol can. Plus, the new Blow Dry Hair
Powder-Best is fantastic and perfect to use on the root area. Express Primer speeds up blow-drying and makes hair stronger and protects hair from up to 450 degree heat. You simply mist onto damp hair and blow dry. Easy peasy.

PROTEIN
PROBLEMS I
t’s the first stop for many first time fitness enthusiasts and considered a MUST have for those starting to lift. If I gained a pound (lb) every time I’m asked “What’s the best Protein for me to use,” I would be Lou Ferrigno. So let’s discuss the magic powder. Today we are going to look at the pros and cons, benefits and common side effects, myths and old wives tales and if you even need a Protein Shake it at all.

First of all let’s start by explaining why and when we would commonly use a Protein Supplement. Providing a steady consumption of Protein is essential for protein synthesis (Muscle Growth/Repair) and to fend off Catabolism (muscle breakdown for energy use). This can be difficult in your day-to-day, busy life and if you a have daily protein target to meet Protein powder can become an even more important tool in your arsenal. In this case it is just simply a quick meal replacement that can be easily carried and with typically 25g to 30g per scoop you’re looking at the same protein intake as eating a chicken breast. So in this example do you NEED a protein powder? The answer in no, you could always eat a chicken breast!
WHEY TO DO IT
Other times we would utilise the big P is most commonly and in my opinion most essentially after (post) workout. Here it is common for athletes and bodybuilders to take a shake of Whey Protein straight after a session. Whey is a fast acting Protein that digests and gets to work in the system quickly so considering after our session the body is in repair mode, it makes sense to load in some materials for the rebuild. So now is paying out for a powder essential? No. Although a more optimal time to sink a shake it is still not so important which form of Protein we take at this point as long as the steady flow throughout the day is there.
NIGHT SHIFT
Naturally when we are at sleep the body will take the opportunity to repair. A lot of people don’t imagine the work that takes place during our deep rest and for this reason your body will be searching for materials and fuel for the construction work. Some consider this to be a prime moment for Catabolism. Catabolism is the reverse of what we want for muscle growth. When the body lacks an energy source it will naturally break down your Muscle and Proteins back into BCAA (Amino Acids) and Fatty Acids to use as energy and keep us alive. This is bad if we are trying to grow so in attempt to fend off this muscle burning beast it is popular to take a slow acting protein such as CASEIN Protein before
we sleep. This slowly digests over a number of hours providing us with a steady sauce of FUEL throughout our sleep. Need it here then? No and Yes. In this example it is arguably the most important moment for a Protein supplement, there are some food alternatives that provide slow release protein but usually at the cost of some calories before sleep. If you really work on this principle than you won’t find a better source. So in my opinion and routine, it’s best to make use of a protein supplement in these three instances.
COMMON MYTHS
There is a lot of talk about Proteins, lots of facts that many take as gospel. Here is a couple of common misconceptions and wives tales that you might here on your fitness journey. 1. YOU CAN ONLY PROCESS 30G OF PROTEIN AT ONE TIME. Think again. Protein digestibility and the amount your body can handle per meal is tied to how much you weigh and how hard you train. The more you weigh, the more you need; the harder you train, the more you need. In turn, the more you need, the more you’ll be able to digest, absorb and assimilate. A 200-pound male will, in general, need more protein
than a 160-pounder and should be able to digest more per meal. Digestibility is also linked to the amount of protein you consume on a regular basis. The more protein you eat regularly, the better your body becomes at digesting large protein meals. For example, the digestibility of meat (i.e. beef, poultry, pork and fish) is about 97% efficient. If you eat 25 grams of beef, you will absorb into the blood stream 97% of the protein in that piece of meat. If on the other hand you eat a 10 oz steak containing about 60 grams of protein, you will again digest and absorb 97% of the protein. If you could only assimilate 30 grams of protein at a time, why would researchers be using in excess of 40 grams of protein to stimulate muscle growth? If you are going to maximise muscle growth you have to minimise muscle loss, and maximise protein synthesis. Research clearly shows this is accomplished with heavy training, adequate calories and very importantly high protein consumption. This means that meals containing more than 30 grams of protein will be the norm. Not to worry, all that protein will certainly be used effectively by the body. 2. DAIRY BASED PROTEIN CAUSES FAT GAIN Nope! I hear this so often and I just don’t agree. Dairy
ISSUE 13 | MARBELLAROCKS
83
HEALTH & FITNESS
HEALTH & FITNESS is perfectly fine. It’s a great source of protein, and some research even shows that dairy, when combined with a low-calorie intake could actually promote fat loss. I imagine the Sodium content in certain dairy products is more of a factor in this myth and with the fear of Sodium being a nutritional faux par itself is one that needs explaining here. Sodium drives glycogen storage and indirectly supports growth by interacting with potassium to turn on pumping mechanisms within cells that govern the exchange of nutrients that lead to muscle repair. Plus, sodium is not the culprit many mistake it to be. If you suddenly change your sodium intake, abruptly increasing it, then yes water retention is likely to be the result. But a steady sodium and water intake is essential for Carbohydrate and Glycogen transportation. This helps us store glycogen inside our muscle giving added strength and a fuller look.
THE PROTEIN BLOAT
A common complaint I find especially in female athletes is that their Protein Shakes make them bloat. This can be caused by a number of different reasons most notably an unknown Lactose intolerance. I know some big brands claim their product is Whey Isolate. And yes, true high-quality isolates contain very little lactose. But again, it may or may not be the lactose that’s the problem. It could be the protein isolate itself that’s causing the issue. But, consider this as well, any protein powder that contains “whey protein concentrates” still contains lactose – even if the manufacturer claims it’s a high quality isolate. Therefore if it’s got concentrates, it’s got lactose.
PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS
THINK ABOUT YOUR DAIRY
One other thing to also consider if you’re suffering the symptoms above is your dairy intake. Maybe, instead of your protein being the problem, you’re having a problem with milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. Again, the lactose or protein fractions in dairy products may be the culprit, so don’t rule either out. If it turns out that dairy is the problem, you could switch to non-cow’s milk dairy (goat or sheep’s milk dairy).
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCT
It’s not an easy task to choose your weapon when it comes to Protein. It is by far the most sold and marketed product in the fitness industry and which containers of all shapes, sizes and colour full of jargon and promises. So how do we decide which to buy? For me it boils down to 3 things: THE LESS INGREDIENTS THE BETTER - Try to stick to a Whey Isolate without too many added junk, the more extras the less quality protein and then we are going backwards. A high content of BCAA and more namely “Lucine” is a bonus. DOES IT MIX WELL? There is nothing worse than a lumpy shake. DOES IT TASTE GOOD? I know some of you “Bros” are gonna say it doesn’t matter what it tastes like just get it down you. NO, this stuff is expensive and I’m drinking it every day sometimes 3 times, trust me, a bad flavour wears thin!! (These last 2 tips are trivial to emphasise the importance and relevance of number 1)
If you consistently get gassy and bloated or stuffy and mucousy after having a supplemental milk protein product, it may be time to switch brands. Your brand might have too much lactose or too high a concentration of certain protein products and either of these could be detrimental. I have known girls that switched protein powders from a whey protein isolate to a milk protein blend and within 1 day, all of their complaints disappeared. Even a switch from one brand of whey isolate to another can have an improvement in function and a removal of symptoms.
Protein powders are easy to absorb, and absorption is an important part of the mass-building process. However, whole-food animal sources of protein, such as eggs, dairy, fowl, red meat and fish, have complete, though somewhat different, amino-acid profiles. Some Bodybuilders claim that cutting out red meat prevents them from building serious mass. Is it the iron, B vitamins or creotine in the meat? Maybe. It’s also likely that the unique amino-acid combinations allow greater protein synthesis. For optimal mass gains, don’t succumb to living mainly on powders. Choose a wide variety of foods and include powders after workouts, Before sleep and at times when convenience is essential. The variable amino-acid concentrations among different foods may exert unique effects on you that result in better growth, as opposed to sticking with one or two protein foods or a couple of foods and a protein powder.
SWITCH PROTEIN TYPES
BOTTOM LINE
Now, without making things too complicated here, let’s get practical with a few suggestions for those of you who think you’re having problems with your protein supplements.
SWITCH PROTEIN BRANDS
If you switch protein brands and that doesn’t help, you may legitimately have an intolerance to the milk protein itself. In such case, you might try switching to rice protein isolates. Rice protein isolates are hypoallergenic and are nowadays fortified to contain a complete compliment of
84 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 13
amino acids.
There is no substitute for good clean sources of food, we were designed to eat to grow and repair so why avoid it. And who doesn’t like FOOD. But adding a decent Protein Powder to your cupboard can really help us to hit our protein targets and make sure we are always growing.

It´s hip owners Benji and Danni are adventure sports aficionados and house music connoisseurs. They decided to open Mariposa this summer after seeing a gap in the market for somewhere young, trendy and hip with a vibrant bar and live DJ´s to really get Sotogrande going. Sotogrande is often mistaken as a quiet destination. Yet with 30,000 inhabitants, many of whom are in the 18-40 age bracket, the dream is ideal. With its perfect open-air courtyard setting and huge dancefloor and lounge space this is surely the ideal after dinner venue to attend. The newly renovated bar is a must see too, with neon lighting, kitch butterfly deco and abstract art.
THE DRINKS
The cocktail menu is vast and there are regular two for one happy hours every Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 9pm including all the classic cocktails you´d expect such as Daiquiris, Mai Tais and Pina Coladas. Those with finer tastebuds or looking for something different there are Champagne Mojitos, Chili Moscow Mule (with a real floating chili and a kick – if you dare!) and The Hurricane

The food menu has a cool American twist with hearty portions of ribs, burgers and chicken dominating the menu. There is also a Spanish flavour, including typical dishes such as Calamari (the owners favorite, lightly battered for starter), Sea Bass and Tuna Steak. Plus there are a few British favorites such as fillet steak and pork belly, and a lovely unique touch of a complimentary entrée of well presented carrots with their homemade crème fraiche and Thai flavoured dip. For starters, our tasters went for sticky ribs which were succulent and had just the right amount of tangy, BBQ sauce and the fresh whole grilled shrimp, which to our surprise were extremely generous with 6 large, whole king prawns. Positioned in heart formation (!) on a bed of salad and lime and coriander…. they were cooked to perfection and on the list of the best prawns sampled in Marbella. Our tasters then went for Sea Bream and the Piri Piri Chicken with steamed vegetables and dauphines potatoes for main. Both were hits. The wine match offered by the waitress was also superb. With fish and spicy chicken she recommended a South African Chenin Blanc called The Rustler. Perfect. The side dishes were also a lovely addition to the menu especially their sweet potato fries which taste so good considering how healthy they are. The fruit platters they offer over breakfast and brunch as well as the salads and other healthy methods taken by the superb head chef means you can come away with a feeling of well- being despite eating foods typically associated with being calorie laden. Plus, everyday there is a new specials menu with at least 5 dishes offered. Plus there is a breakfast and brunch menu with a unique twist on classic dishes.
DESSERT
This is where sin sets in and what a nicer way to end your meal than with a white chocolate cappuccino. However, the most popular of their desserts has to be the smashed meringue with flambéed strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Co-owner Jonathan has travelled the world extensively and has taken the best dishes from around the world, teamed with the freshest local and international ingredients, to make up this superb, tastebud-tantalising menu. For start our tasters we went for the Steamed Asparagus topped with Hollandaise Sauce, which was cooked to perfection and the sauce was a tangy and light accompaniment. The starter portion of Tuna Tartare

GASTRONOMY with Guacamole, Fresh Herbs and a Yuzu Dressing was also fantastic. The Tuna was so fresh and sumptuous it literally melted in your mouth. For main our testers went for the Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb served with mash potato, seasonal vegetables and the most delicious red wine jus. It was just the right portion size and the lamb, which is sometimes a tricky meat for restaurants in Spain to get right, was top notch. Another firm favourite on the menu is the Veal Milanese. Served with spaghetti or fries and seasonal vegetables. The veal was delicious and the beautifully presented spaghetti with tomato and basil sauce accompaniment was divine. De Medici also garnish all their starter and main courses with edible flowers – another nice little touch. The service at De Medici is also second to none. The staff were friendly without being overbearing and the recommendations, including wine matching with our courses, was exemplary. The owners are also regularly in attendance and are incredibly warm, welcoming and like to see each customer is getting the star treatment they should be receiving on a day or night out to De Medici. If you have room the dessert is amazing too and comes up on an impressive trolley laden with impressive homemade desserts each night. PLAZA BEACH T
he opulent, VIP beach club Plaza Beach has just introduced a new head chef from La Sala and a fantastic, wide-ranging lunch menu. We weren´t sure what to expect when trying the new menu as Plaza is more famed for its DJ´s and dancing than serving good grub BUT we were more than pleasantly surprised. For starters, we went for the Cajun Chicken Gougons with a lightly spiced mayonnaise dip. The chicken was succulent, the breadcrumbs light and fluffy and the dip was tasty and not too overpowering. The salads are listed in Starters but don´t be fooled, the portions are large! The Chicken Caeser Salad was delicious and came with giant croutons and large slices of chicken and parmesan. It was topped off with juicy cherry tomatoes and hard-boiled egg. So many restaurants can ruin a salad by being too stingy or too generous with dressing. This was not the case, the perfect amount was served and you can tell by how creamy and tangy it was, that it was made fresh on site. If you are looking for an even healthier starter option, we can highly recommend the Duo of Salmon, which contained a tower of diced salmon pieces and avocado marinated in a spicy dressing. The towering inferno (!) was topped off with slices of fresh smoked salmon and served with orange and sesame seeds. The Mains menu didn´t disappoint either. It contained all the usual lunchtime favourites
you would expect including pastas, fish, ribs, steaks and burgers. Our tasters went for the Rib Eye Steak which was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. It was also served with cooked vine tomatoes, glazed in balsamic and a generous portion of salad. Thinking we´d got away with a healthy meal and not too tight a waistband, the dessert came up! Strawberry and raspberry cheesecake with strawberry ice cream, simply divine and lots of biscuit base, a must with cheesecake. There was also the option of fresh fruit skewers with a hot chocolate dipping sauce, homemade apple pie and a selection of ice creams and sorbets, but we were done! Apart from the fabulous food on offer, Plaza Beach is well worth a visit for its tantalising cocktails! The Strawberry Daiquiris and Mojitos are amazing. The wine list is also pretty impressive. With fish and salad on order, our lovely waitress recommended we went for a crisp Sauvignon – La Belle Saison which was perfect with our meal. If you haven´t been to Plaza yet you must. Besides the delicious food, Plaza the venue is simply stunning. As well as the beautiful sea view and prime location (a stone´s throw from the port) the famous beach club is adorned with huge white cabana beds and private jacuzzi´s. Plus chances are, whatever day of the week you attend there will be top name DJ´s and a great party, summer atmosphere. Sun, sand, sea and fine dining, how do we book up?!

Selfie Satisfaction
he trend for taking selfies has gone crazy and many art galleries around the world are now enforcing strict selfie bans. The Prado in Madrid not only bans the taking of selfies but photographing any of the works on display is not allowed. However one gallery, Art in Island situated in Manila in the Philippines, has been designed specifically for the taking of selfies. The gallery is full of 3D reproductions of famous paintings that you can touch or step inside, offering unlimited opportunities to satisfy that selfie obsession.

ringing together the exciting concept of cars, art and design The Red Penguin, one of the most popular art galleries in the Marbella area, has moved to a new location. Since originally opening as a commercial gallery in Marbella’s El Corte Inglés department store on the Golden Mile in 2011, Dutch owners Joris Marjot and Loni Olfers have found that they need more space and have relocated to the Guarnieri car showroom in San Pedro Alcántara. PSYCHOLOGY
PSYCHOLOGY
You Gain When You Abstain
F
or this month’s psychology column I was given the opportunity to interview DJ Brandon Block about his new initiative to help people in learning to abstain from drug use, and I am really glad that he agreed because, I believe, he has some beautiful realisations to share with you. From West London in the 80’s, when Crackers and Cheeky Pete’s were the highlights of the Jazz Funk club scene, to 88 when Shoom, Spectrum and Boys Own were the cool gaffs, and then onto the sunny island shores of Ibiza, and the Space Terrace, featuring as the world’s first outdoor club, Brandon was there at the very birth of the clubbing scene.

Antonia: What drew you to the Island paradise? Brandon: I had many friends there and they said I should come, so I just went. Those years were great, I had a lot of fun, and I took way too many drugs! We didn’t have any knowledge of drugs back then. We didn’t know about addiction and especially about the long term effects of mind altering substances. Antonia: What advice would you give young people who decide to take a risk to travel to new places and follow their dreams, versus pursuing a formal education and a sensible career path? Brandon: You live on dreams so, I think it is both. I think you have to follow your dreams, but be sensible, be wise with money and be informed about your choices. Antonia: If you knew back in the day, what you now understand about drugs, would it have changed things? Brandon: Yes, absolutely. I was experimenting. I wasn’t aware of any of the dangers back then, and actually didn’t care. I didn’t know that marijuana (skunk) can cause a permanent psychotic episode and that this can create irreversible damage. I had no idea cocaine could twist my mind and give me years of anxiety. I lost friends, I lost relationships and I lost my mind. I was lucky though, because I managed to recover. I also had a supportive family and friends who helped me through. Antonia: Is it okay if I ask you what the turning point was for you; what made you get help? Brandon: I was given 2 weeks to live. My doctor, a psychiatrist, said I must go into hospital and he would help me detox, or I would die. Antonia: What did you do? Brandon: I said ‘Can you wait until after the weekend?’ and I went and had the biggest ‘blow-out’. Then I checked myself in to the hospital. Antonia: How did you find the detox and learning to abstain from drug use? Brandon: It was really hard. I was using a lot of cocaine. My mind had become so used to taking such large
98 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 13
amounts, that I had been having hallucinations when I wasn’t using. I really messed up my brain. I did use a little after the detox. I just wanted to see. But, I realised I had had enough. I wanted to stop using drugs. I chose life and I have been clean for 19 years now. I do still have the occasional beer and cigarette. But, that’s just me. It’s my choice. I think the hardest thing was learning to feel again. I started to have all these feelings and emotions. It was hard because I had been ‘numbed’ out for so many years, and now reality was hitting me hard. Antonia: What helped you to manage? Brandon: I had a lot of support, but mostly it was my fear; I was more scared of using drugs, now knowing what they had done to me, than I was of facing painful feelings and emotions. It was hard though. There are so many triggers that tempt you to use drugs, and there is the euphoric recall, that tells you how wonderful it will be if you use them. I had to keep telling myself that those thoughts were illogical and just the voice of a mixed up brain, I had to remind myself what I wanted and why and to stay logical. It was hard’. Antonia: What advice would you give to people who would like to learn to abstain from drugs? Brandon: I think it is important to know that when you ask for help, the people helping you are not judging you, they understand, they care, they know how to help, and there is a lot of empathy and support, so don’t be afraid to get help. Antonia: What have you gained from abstaining? Brandon: Life!!!! When I stopped using drugs, although it was hard, I started to feel all these feelings and I realised I had not been living my life fully. I had lost the lot, the things that really mattered and the people. Antonia: You are venturing on a new career path now, to help others to abstain from drug use, tell us more about this. Brandon: I am working with Blenheim who are a huge drug and alcohol London based service as a drug/ key worker I’m also a SMART recovery Champion and Trainer. SMART Recovery is a CBT/REBT model of recovery using various psychotherapies as interventions in habitual behaviour. It makes no demands of you, or insists on what you ‘have to do’. It is more about giving you time and space to really think about what you are thinking, so that you can make healthier choices. Antonia: So this is really useful for those who do not yet have an addiction, but who are using drugs more as a habit, as part of their social or recreational activities? Brandon: Yes, it helps people to get out of the habitual ways, and to really think about and understand what they are doing. Then they can make informed choices and use drugs, if they want to, but knowing the dangers, knowing how to be careful, knowing the consequences, and taking responsibility for the choices they make. Antonia: Would you like to add anything else about SMART recovery? Brandon: I want people to know that sometimes relapsing is part of recovery. It does not need to be judged or seen as failure, sometimes it just takes time to change, and this is okay, what matters is being on the right road, and trying to do what is best for you. SMART
recovery aims to help you find what is best for you. Antonia: What was your biggest mistake? Brandon: I think that humans make too many demands; we want so much and expect so much and when we do not get it, or do not believe we can achieve it and this can create self-loathing. I think that we need to stop making so many demands. We need to learn to accept ourselves as we are, to accept our limitations and accept what we can do and how things are, just exactly at that moment. Antonia: What has been your best moment since abstaining? Brandon: Falling in love again! I didn’t really know what love was. I was on too many drugs to feel. Now I am in love with my girlfriend Lauren. Antonia: So the gift of giving up, is getting your life back? Brandon: I think that what we really need to focus on is what we gain when we abstain, to make it about focusing on conscious, logical choices and making choices about what we really want, even if that means facing change and experiencing pain, because eventually it leads to love and happiness.

When being thin on the beach just isn´t enough these days.
That pose…? Those pants….? No! Men are usually more guilty of tan lines than women. This guy have stuck to his tanning shorts.
This elderly lady put her onepiece swimsuit on back to front in Florida, at least it wasn´t upside down too?
Whatever was this girl thinking?!!
epic swimwear fails IT´S AUGUST AND THE COSTA DEL SOL BEACHES ARE RAMMED. HOPEFULLY THE STYLISH FOLK OF MARBELLA WON´T MATCH THESE EPIC SWIMWEAR FAILS, AS POSTED ON THE INTERNET BY SHOCKED ONLOOKERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.
Last year TOWIE member Bobby sported this number in Marbella. Ouch.
Resembling a deflated balloon on a piece of string this Dutch man´s weird (and certainly not wonderful) handmade thongs fails in so many ways.
No matter how hungry anyone was this edible bikini top will always remain in tact.

Cute girly pose…check. Girly bikini and kaftan…. check. Girl…..no check.
This ensemble would look shocking on anyone – let alone this French chick. Double trouble here with a monster claw tattoo and string thong.
Barbados is beautiful but this cross gender´s hot pink bikini is definitely not what you want to bump into on the paradise island.
Hideous PVC creation with sleeves and a skirt. Not even can this pretty US TV star pull it off.
Ten out of ten for courage and one out of ten for taste.
Believe it or not this pic was from Spain! Very much doubt it was the Ocean Club.
A swimsuit that looks like all the layers of skin have just been peeled off. Nice. A 30-year-old wouldn´t even get away with this little number.
TV chef Nigella Lawson wore this monstrosity to the Maldives. Looks like a burquini with a cap.

ASTROLOGY
MARBELLA ROCKS ASTROLOGY FORECAST AUGUST 2015
Aries
Gemini
Leo
You know something has to change for the better - and you realise you must be the one to kick-start the process. With your romance zone lit up this month it’s likely that you’re in pursuit of love or an opportunity for recognition on some level. That extra effort you put in to reach your goals has the desired effect. Fun, excitement and the spotlight - you won’t be able to escape any of these. A work breakthrough could just be the icing on the party cake for you towards the end of the month - perhaps giving you one more reason to celebrate. Not that you need an excuse. If there’s a party happening - it’s centered round where you are. Love doesn’t just flow - it rocks your world this month.
Time to take career moves seriously as this month brings you an unprecedented opportunity to carve that path to success. You need to be thinking in the long term as your security - both material and emotional, should be your paramount focus. Substantial inroads towards those work and business ambitions can be made while others could be looking at a house move as well as a move up the success ladder - either of which is set to elevate your status and sense of security on some level. Don’t settle for ‘It’s good enough for now’ - whatever you choose needs to have long term sustainability and that goes for love too. You know you need that double jeopardy package smarts and sexiness. Don’t settle for anyone who doesn’t keep you up all night with the talk - and the action.
Now is your time to act and summon up every atom of that Leo confidence and star quality. You won’t experience another period quite like this until 2023, so don’t rest on your laurels as you’ve only just scratched the surface of what you can achieve. You could have the Midas touch when it comes to money and success and you are also making a positive impression on everyone you meet. There’s a touch of the showman and the diplomat about you and this combination more than anything gets people on your team. Push forward with plans and passionate ambitions and that includes winning that lover. You could make things look effortless this month - at least to others but effort is involved. Don’t just dream it or you’ll waste your opportunities. You need to take steps to do it to make it real.
Taurus
Cancer
Virgo
Finally you know where you stand when it comes to partnership matters and you are either ready to commit or to move on. If it’s the latter then more than one opportunity may cross your path now. There’s also no hiding in the wings any more as your presence is demanded on the stage of life as you’re pushed into the spotlight. Although you’re not usually an attention seeker, it singles you out - if not in the form of a romantic prospect or two, then recognition for your talents. It’s no time for false modesty either. Strut your stuff and accept those compliments and even tangible rewards which come your way. Unusual friends or gatherings open doors to new experiences and deepen your connections. Don’t shun the spotlight. It’s your turn to shine.
So, what would you spend extra cash on right now, Cancer? Have a plan in mind as it could be heading your way this month. Chances are if it does hit you could well spend some of it on travel or upgrading your skills. You’ve a yearning for something more than you currently have in your life and are perhaps feeling something’s missing and if this is as good as it gets. It could be about to get a whole lot better as your self-esteem receives a boost along with your bank account. If in the midst of all this you discover a lover is not for you after all, don’t worry or be afraid to end things. All that follows is a feeling of relief and you wondering why you didn’t tackle this sooner. Chances are by the month’s end you know exactly what to do with any extra cash - leave bad decisions behind you and head for cocktails, sunny climes and good times.
After a soul-searching 12 months you emerge demanding more from life and hopefully with a clear idea of what really matters to you. We can all set goals but your ability to manifest them in the next year rests with how much your desires provide you with the opportunity for expansion and learning. This doesn’t mean to say they may not be related to love or career success as these are definitely learning experiences. Just decide which areas are most likely to offer opportunities for this and if you start towards them with confidence, doors will swing open. Luck is on your side and it’s time to take a chance or at least a calculated risk - either in your abilities or your feelings. Know you have what it takes when it comes to apply for that job - or telling someone how you truly feel. Think big and expect someone or something larger than life in answer to your wishes.

Libra
Sagittarius
Aquarius
If you’ve strayed too far off your soul path then this month and indeed the next 12, provides that course correction, Libra. You may see that the job you’re doing is no longer tenable on so many levels and if so, it’s time to think about not just what feeds the body but also feeds the soul. Surprise encounters while socialising may not just provide romance and flirtation but could lead to important connections who may be able to assist if you come to the conclusion that a particular job has run its course. Above all, don’t remain in a situation that is taxing your health on any level. Counteract any job related stress with afterhours fun but one thing is certain - if you are in the wrong job nothing will keep you there for too much longer. A more satisfying use of your talents and skills awaits.
Travel and adventure - your two favourite words, beckon this August. Love could turn out to be with someone who is very much on the same page as you and willing to share the journey. Don’t forget however that adventures need funding - as does freedom, but luckily ruler Jupiter is about to light up your career sector for the next 12 months ushering in what could be a major job opportunity or breakthrough. You just could find yourself in the enviable position of having the success to fund the freedom you crave. However, don’t rush at business and career venture, as to get the results you seek, you need to practice due diligence. The same goes for lovers. To avoid disappointment take things slowly and check the facts. Are they a free spirit like you or just looking for a free ride? It takes time to know the difference and what’s your hurry?
Are you trying to push romance ahead or are things going too fast for you, Aquarius? Don’t be afraid to slow things down to an acceptable pace - especially if it is the other party who is doing the pushing. Yes, it’s nice to be wanted but watch in case neediness is behind that. Those of you in relationships need to be out and above letting off steam with your main squeeze as staying in or lazing around doing nothing may see petty irritations turn into major conflicts. Do both of you a favour and get on your bikes (literally), swim, surf, walk, jog or hit the gym to keep togetherness alive. Career matters that have been on hold, move forward again and by the end of the month a turn of events or turnaround in romance could bring about a real game-changer that was worth slowing down for.
Scorpio
Capricorn
Pisces
Success rests on your attitude now and the image you project. Is it someone ready to be taken seriously and who takes pride in their professionalism and skills? You’re on show in some way this August and even if you are out socialising, people in positions of power will notice you. Crafting how you come across and also choosing your companions carefully all play at part in this. When it comes to the company you keep this extends to your career. A major coup could be on its way and you need to ensure if you are being promoted or offered a new position that the organisation’s values are in line with your own. Dedication to your career pays off for you and while you may work hard, you’ll play hard too, secure in the knowledge you’ve earned it. The month’s end could see a new romance begin or the intensity gets turned up on an existing one. Take love seriously too and only invest in what’s worthwhile.
How lucky do you feel, Capricorn? A stroke of good luck, a breakthrough or what may appear to others as success just landing in your lap and then settling down and purring contentedly could be yours. Of course, luck has very little to do with it because you know it’s down to your hard work and preparation but let others think what they will and enjoy making success look easy. Romance could come in the form of someone foreign or so opposite to you that you feel both the attraction and as if they have all the missing parts of your being. However this ends up, they will expand your view of the world - and of love. No matter what else is going on you usually keep at least half an eye on career matters and the end of the month promises to deliver the news you’ve been waiting for.
Step into your Year of Love, Pisces as August heralds the start of your best 12 month period for finding the lasting kind you’ve experienced in 12 years! If that doesn’t get your motor running, I’m not sure what will. If sadly things between you have not been going well, this could however signal the end but the split may be amicable and what’s more - you won’t be lonely long. Work prospects will have your focus as you channel your energy into projects or landing that new job. You’re able to switch roles between team leader and team player at will now, so work on fostering that esprit de corps - or your ability to foster it with a new employer, to get the results you’re seeking. Decide what it is you wish to prioritise at a given moment - then commit to that 100%. Remember all connections even to the people you work with are love - enjoy a year of loving and being loved including loving what you do.

when I meet people and they tell me that they met their partner at one of my events and they have kids and are married because they came to my event!! BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN? Say yes to every job opportunity that comes your way and then put in the work to make sure it’s done right. IF YOU WERE AN ANIMAL WHAT WOULD YOU BE? King of the jungle… a lion!!
Johnnie B Gomez, CEO & founder of BJohnnieB Events, is a respected figure in the entertainment industry in Marbella Originally from the Dominican Republic, Johnnie moved to New York and worked on the iconic Studio 54 & Palladium nightclubs. New York´s loss was Spain´s gain! Johnnie now runs his world-class events company from Marbella which includes top nightspot, Güey by Sweden
YOU ARE A BIT OF A LOCAL CELEB HERE JOHNNIE, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT SOME OF THE EVENTS YOU HAVE HOSTED HERE IN MARBELLA? I have hosted & presented for the What Women Want Fashion Show for Nikki Beach for the past 3 years and created the idea, concept and hosted the Marbella International Film Festival red carpet parties.
People may not remember your name but they will never forget how you made them feel. If you have made them feel great that is when you know you have hosted a great event.
YOU HAVE ALSO LIVED IN MADRID, WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING IN THE CAPITAL? Working in Madrid almost 20 years was great. I learned about events, being a great PR (not giving flyers in the street!) but getting the right people to come to the clubs...I also created one of the coolest hip-hop, R&B sessions Soulkitchen Madrid.
IF YOU HAD TO TAKE THREE THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE? A box of books, lots of clothes (I’m not wearing the same thing for days or weeks!) and someone intelligent to talk to.
