CELEBRITIES EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT CHERYL COLE BECOMES CHERYL VERNANDEZVERSINI After a whirlwind three-month romance, the X Factor judge married her French bar owner boyfriend in the Caribbean, with only four guests in attendance. After meeting at the Cannes Film Festival, it’s been true love for the star so she felt it time to seal the deal in an intimate wedding in Mustique. To stop the endless speculation, Cheryl posted a formal message to fans saying, “I usually do not discuss my personal life but to stop the speculation I want to share my happy news...Jean-Bernard and I married on 7/7/14. We are very happy and excited to move forward with our lives together.” Her dazzling platinum-cut diamond engagement ring is reported to be valued at a whopping £30,000. Let’s hope it’s second time lucky for Geordie Cheryl.
CHRIS MARTIN AND RIHANNA- THE NEW CELEB COUPLE? The Coldplay front man, whom in March ‘consciously uncoupled’ Gwyneth Paltrow, has been heard describing Rihanna as ‘intoxicating’. The ‘Monster’ singer- who recently split from Drake was spotted dining out with Chris at her favourite restaurant, Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica. Sources claim they felt a strong connection when working together on their 2012 hit “Princess of China”. It seems Rihanna has swapped her rappers for her rockers!
EVA MENDES AND RYAN GOSLING HAVING A BABY BOY Now the big secret is out the bag, the Mendes and Gosling families are hard at work excitingly preparing for the new arrival. Witnesses have spotted assistants busy at work going in and out of Eva’s $3.2 million home in the Hollywood Hills with clothes, toys and furniture
for the new nursery. It’s been reported that the colour blue is definitely a running theme chosen by the parents to be, leading to only one conclusion: they are expecting a boy! Up until now, the couple have lived separately, however they are now setting up a joint home at Eva’s where they will raise their new addition. Rumour has it, they are both keen on a monkey theme for the nursery, even going as far as nicknaming the baby “monkey”. A source has said “there will be monkeys on the wall”, carefully coordinated with the multitude of monkey toys that they have already bought. The couple are full of excitement about the news, especially Ryan who can’t wait to teach his son baseball and soccer. Perhaps the pitter-patter of tiny feet will finally lead the couple up the altar?!
LIBERTY ROSS TAKES RUPERT SANDERS TO THE CLEANERS IN DIVORCE SETTLEMENT It’s been two years since the scandalous affair between Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sander’s was revealed. In July 2012, Sanders made a desperate plea to win his wife back saying “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family, my beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart.” However, this admission was not enough to win back his wife and the divorce papers have at last been finalised in LA. The actress has walked away with the family house in Los Angeles, two other London houses, $25,000 a month in spousal support for four years, $14,000 a month in child support for their children, 15% of Rupert’s profits from movies, with the exception of Snow White, and half of his bank accounts and retirement income.

SUNDAY SHOPPING IN MARBELLA
The law currently restricts most Spanish businesses from opening as these are national days of rest. However, certain big cities have had these restrictions lifted due to increasing tourism demands.
The list of Sunday trading cities contains important tourist destinations including Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona and Granada, so to be added to this list is a compliment in itself to Marbella. Marbella has been named as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain with figures already up 12% on last year.
Now Marbs is one of them.

so everyone thinks that with cameras the bigger is the better, if you’re seen parading around with a camera that fits in your pocket, you’re considered nothing more than an amateur with no photography skills. Well, sorry to disappoint you but its not strictly true. The large SLR cameras of yesteryear taking snaps of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are amazing and will always be the photographers dream, but conventionally they’re not as practical as the compact ones of today. Megapixels, annoyingly the things that you can get off an iPhone 5 are actually getting closer to the professional photographers cameras. This is where we dispel the myth. If you are a photographer with a means to make a living then you have to buy a larger more generous SLR or dSLR camera. If you’re the average guy like me that’ll never get your head around certain inconvenient and confusing settings, we’ve researched the best digital compact cameras on the high street, that do all the hard work for you.
Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 Great nifty camera for Android users. Good combination of decent specs and it has a responsive touchscreen and a 21x optical zoom. Looks

good too and is slightly lighter although bigger than the Galaxy 1. Except this bad boy can hold 400 pictures in one outing and its surprisingly easy to use with hardly any additional buttons.
Olympus TG-850 Tiltable compact A rugged compact camera featuring a new 21-105mm 5x optical zoom lens, and the new star feature of a tiltable LCD screen. It wouldn’t be a rugged camera and have “tough” emblazoned down the side without being shockproof to 2.1 metres, waterproof to 10 metres, crushproof to 100kg and can even work in temperatures as low as -10 degrees.
Sony RX100 III Sony has launched the updated RX100 with a pop-up electronic viewfinder while making the camera only about 2.5mm wider and 9 grams heavier than its predecessor. Sony has also improved the tilting bracket that holds the 3-inch LCD so that the screen can be tilted up through 180 degrees, making it useful for shooting selfies. It features the new Bionz X processing engine, which brings Sony’s diffraction reducing technology and areaspecific noise reduction for improved image quality.

moky eyes look great but are not ideal for summer, the grey creases and smudges make you look more heroine chic than hot chic. Therefore the look of the summer has to be bronze, gold and shimmery eyeshadows.
Tons of shimmer is okay here – in fact, we’d recommend it. Shimmery shadow draws light to your eye area, making your eyes look bigger and brighter than ever. It’s also much easier to apply a subtle shade and any heat smudging is not noticeable with light colours ensuring you look gorgeous all night long. Whether that means smearing one shade all over your lid or blending a few colours to achieve a more perfected look you really can’t go wrong. Mac and Boujour have great long-lasting colours.

SWIMSUITS
I
f you’ve always contemplated wearing a onepiece swimsuit but dread the thought of looking more like Borat than Bo Derek then read on, as this is your definitive guide on how to select the right one-piece to suit your body shape. One-piece swimsuits have been around since the 1920s, but over the past few years they have evolved into one of the hottest pieces in our summer wardrobes…not convinced? Then just ask the girls from TOWIE who were all recently spotted in Marbella rocking some fabulous one-pieces. Jessica Wright was spotted in a lacy number, whilst Lauren Pope was spotted in a rock chick tiger print. Our personal favourite you ask. It has to be Ferne McCann’s eye print cut out swimsuit. We’ve searched high and low on the Internet and are pleased to tell you it is available for £95 at Modemwah.
and straps, bandeau styles and high neck swimsuits can be unflattering on larger busts as they emphasise the chest and you can end up looking too top heavy. Gym junkies, flaunt your abs in a one-piece with cut away sides and for a 2014 edge - opt for sheer panelling. Remember that vertical stripes will make you look longer and leaner, while horizontal stripes can add curves. One-piece swimsuits create the ultimate beach to bar look, so rock yours at the beach or a cool pool party.
If you have a small bust opt for a style with frills around the bust area, as this will add volume and create the illusion of a fuller bust. Alternatively, pleats or a padded cup work just as well. Those with a fuller bust should go for a one-piece with a v-neck

NEWS If you’re anything like the Marbella Rocks team to really appreciate your nights out there’s nothing quite like a relaxing night in. Cue DVD, dinner and a good bottle of wine. Here’s a rundown and recipe for a quality night in.
RECIPE
SUMMER SALMON & VEGETABLE MEDLEY A healthy, tasty and easy to prepare summer dish with only 300 calories per portion. Perfect for the summer heat and waistlines! Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 20 minutes Ingredients: (makes 4 portions) 400g trimmed green beans 200g broccoli florets 200g asparagus spears Juice of 2 lemons plus husk 2 tablespoons of olive oil 1 teaspoon chilli flakes Salt and pepper 30 g black olives 4 vines of cherry tomatoes, vine included 4 salmon fillets 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. 2. Blanch vegetables together in a saucepan of boiling hot water with a pinch of salt for 3-4 minutes. Remove immediately and place in a bowl of ice cold water. (6-10 ice cubes preferable). This technique is known as blanching and helps to preserve the colour and crispness of vegetables. 3. Then place vegetables and seasonings in a large roasting pan squeezing the juice of 1 lemon over them. 4. Drizzle with olive oil, scatter in the olives and place vine tomatoes

overall.
5. Lay the fillets, skin side down, as a top layer and squeeze over the second lemon, throwing in the husks.
Wines with grape varieties such as un-oaked Chardonnay, a Chenin Blanc or a citrus Italian style wine such as Fiano, would be a perfect match.
6. Oven roast for 20 minutes. The tomatoes and lemon will have made a wonderful juice to spoon over the fish. Serve with new potatoes and a crispy green salad. Really delicious and a vibrant colour to boost.
FOOD & WINE MATCH
WINE MATCH
The lemon and oil bring a lot of acidity to this dish, in place of vinegar. So you need to match this by selecting wines with a high level of acidity. This will offset the sharpness and balance the dish
The delightful vegetable medley also brings to the table the vibrant and strong flavours of asparagus and tomatoes. A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is always a superb grape variety to balance such flavours. Check out my Guide to Bubbles next month ‘Tracey Lee - Wine Angel’

Marbella Rocks exclusive interview with Sintillate founder Gary Sewell
SINTILLATE How did the party start? Sintillate was launched in 1999 in Chelsea, London and quickly expanded across the UK and beyond, reaching Marbella back in 2003. At the time Marbella wasn’t particularly seen as a party destination but that all changed when Sintillate brought our loyal party following to town, putting Marbella, as we know it today, on the map!
Why is your party the one to go to? We have been at the forefront of the party scene in the UK for the past 15 years and there are not many people who haven’t attended one of our parties over that period! Our attention to detail, our music policy and our ability to create the best atmosphere along with our partnerships with the best venues, all ensure our clientele keep on coming back! Who are your celebrity attendees? Our parties have attracted the ‘Who’s who’ of the celebrity world from modern pop royalty like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, One Direction,

The Wanted and Little Mix to the likes of Westlife, 5IVE, N’Sync and Backstreet Boyz. Pink and Sugababes have joined us for our live music nights and there’s not many a soap star or sports personality that hasn’t joined us!
Ticket prices/ where to buy/ opening times? Tickets can be bought for all of our events as well as restaurant bookings, hotels, transfers and luxuries such as yacht hire at www.sintillate.co.uk
Most desired celebrity attendee? For me, Bruce Springsteen!
What’s everyone wearing? Sintillate guests have always been very stylish! The Sunday Times Style supplement even once mentioned our guests style as defining an era, alongside the likes of Studio 54 etc. This year what’s of particular note is the popularity of tailored shorts for men!
What’s everyone drinking? King Peter Vodka recently won the Worlds Best tasting vodka award in San Francisco and has made a big impact in Marbella! What’s your summer anthem/most likely to hear? Kiesza ‘Hideaway’
Do you hold after parties? All of our parties go on until very late in Marbella! Why Marbella? We first considered Marbella as a destination in 2002 when so many of our London following seemed to holiday there and have properties in the area. That decision alone has totally transformed Marbella and has been responsible for bringing millions of euros to the Marbellan economy each Summer and has placed Marbella firmly on the World map as a party destination!

f you’re looking for a friendly, relaxed party atmosphere then Candypants might well be for you. The party organisers have been throwing events in Marbella for 4 years now: at night club Tibu every Friday and their own privately planned Candypants boat parties once a week. There are 19 planned events this summer if you fancy a daytime trip out on the Marbella shoreline.
started. “At each one of our events, the Candygirls go round on the dancefloor handing out fancy dress items to revellers. It’s amazing how that one box of novelties can change the night. You relax, smile and it’s a good way for our clientele to interact with each other.” “We try not to be too pretentious. It’s a family natured team and everyone gets along,” Ray adds. At Candypants boat parties the €1m catamaran draws anchor when its calm and lets guests swim for half an hour or so, a good way to cool everyone down in the 30 degree heat. Candypants target audience is 18-40 young professionals with anyone from footballers to lawyers in attendance.
Candypants are not claiming to be the biggest club night or about securing the best top name DJ’s. Their music is a mix of commercial house and summer anthems that people like to party to. “We’re all about having fun… the Candy Girls, our host of beautiful women that organise our events are definitely our unique selling point,” says Ray Chan, owner of Candypants. There’s a team of 70 Candygirls in the UK and Spain with around 5 or 6 hostesses at each party. The idea behind the Candygirls, apart from to attract the guys, is to get the parties
“We are bringing the fun back to Marbella,” Ray adds. But be warned, don’t attempt to step afoot a Candypants boat party worse for wear. “We don’t let troublemakers on board. ew cocktail bar Freudenhaus opened its’ doors at the start of the month in Puerto Banus, Avenida Jose Banus next to Japanese Sakura Restaurant – just a stones throw from the famous port. Designed to be an after dinner venue Freudenhaus serves a wide choice of house, signature, classic and seasonal cocktails. The interior designer of Freudenhaus is already a well known name in Europe - their latest projects include DSTRKT London, a restaurant and bar in central London, which has been selected as “Best new club in London” in 2012 at the London club and bar awards, and “Best Club” in 2013 and 2014 in the same awards. They have completed The Pearl in Berlin last year, which has been shortlisted for three awards at this year’s edition of the prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Awards and many more. Freudenhaus Marbella design aims for the surroundings to compliment the content of the bar - in this case the content of the bar is “The Best Cocktails in Costa del Sol.” So we tried to give those cocktails a nice environment. The style of the venue could only be described as contemporary, decadent and chic.

The owners of the bar come from Germany after coming over to Marbella for years, playing golf and enjoying the best weather in Europe all year round, they couldn’t find a place dedicated to the best quality cocktails, so that’s why they decided to create one of their own. The drink list and quality of cocktails is something not to be compromised. The best choice of labels, fresh fruit, organic bitters and the way of serving must be the top.
COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH
For making this all come together they were able to involve well known bartender, Sam Vanderfelt, who has the passion and experience to shake and stir top cocktails, with 17 years behind the bar and 8 of those doing cocktails - the perfect match was found. Sam has worked in 5* hotels and beach clubs and some of the best bars in the business (Ocean Club, Purobeach, Hotel Puente Romano, Sea Grill, Tokonoma, Marbella Club, Namazake and Suite to mention some.) He loves herbs, spices and organic products and lots of tropical fruits as they remind him of home. Sam is a big fan of Caribbean rums for mixing and Smokey whiskey for drinking, especially the Japanese varieties. He is very excited and thankful to be part of this new and exciting project that is Freudenhaus and says that it is the best menu he has created so far! We can assure you - it’s worth tasting. Welcome to Freudenhaus - you will not be disappointed!

REGISTERING YOUR VEHICLE IN SPAIN. SPANISH LICENSE PLATES AND REGISTRATION DOCUMENT. Registering a non-Spanish vehicle in Spain is a complex and potentially costly procedure. However, you may be exempt from Spanish registration tax by getting Spanish number plates within one month of entering the country. But to do this, you need to become a resident. Linea Directa has been insuring expat drivers in Spain for over a decade and understands all the steps involved. Below we outline this process. STEP 1: OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY This is a statement by the car’s manufacturer that it conforms to EU regulations. You will need the car’s chassis number to complete this straightforward process online at www.eurococ.eu/en/certificate_of_conformity. The charges for this service will vary according to type of vehicle, make and country of 1st registration. STEP 2: CURRENT LOG BOOK The vehicle’s original log book showing your name as the owner, the vehicles age and a valid UK address. You will also need the bill of sale for the car. STEP 3: RESIDENCY IN SPAIN The Spanish residency certificate (Certificado de Empadronamiento) is your official proof of residency in Spain. Your local town hall can provide you with this document. You will need to take your passport and proof of Spanish address (rental contract, contract to purchase or property deeds). STEP 4: OBTAINING A SPANISH MOT CERTIFICATE All vehicles over 4 years old must be roadworthy and clearly display a valid ITV sticker. The ITV (Vehicle Technical Inspection) must be tested at an authorised centre, just as for an MOT test. You can find out the location of your nearest ITV centre on DGT website (equivalent to the DVLA). You can also call your local centre to make a booking. If the centre is busy, especially pre-summer, this can save a lot of time. The cost can vary but generally is around 40€ for petrol-engine cars and 56€ for diesel-engine cars. Step 5: OBTAINING A SPANISH EQUIVALENT OF A TAX DISC The Spanish Tax Agency can provide your vehicle with a valid “tax disc” for Spain, which must be carried in the car when in use. You will need to complete the relevant form online and pay the amount according to your car’s tax band. You can carry out all these procedures yourself or you can seek the assistance of an accountant to do this for you. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. FEATURES If you’re opting for a made-up look, go for a sheer foundation. Estee Lauder have recently introduced Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Make-Up (€37) a great lightweight foundation that controls oil, resists smudging and won’t melt off through heat and humidity.
T
emperatures can easily reach 40 degrees on the Costa Del Sol in August and this intense heat can play havoc with your skin. While Vitamin D you get from the sun’s rays is actually good for you (see below), harmful UV rays damage and dry out your skin. Plus excess sweating can cause spots to break out – just when you don’t need them. Therefore try to avoid wearing any make-up if you can in the daytime. Your skin is better beach ready with just a sunscreen and if you really need some sort of coverage keep it to a concealer and tinted moisturiser. Benefit Cosmetics does a great version with SPF15 called You Rebel (€30) suited to all skin types containing Aloe Vera, Vitamin A and Vitamin E, known for their replenishing properties.
To prevent major make-up meltdown, MAC Fix+ (€17) is a fantastic product. This refreshing spray infused with calming properties including cucumber, chamomile and green tea not only deeply nourishes dehydrated skin. It also fixes any previously applied makeup. Just a few sprays later and your make-up will stay put all day long. Another great summer product to try is blotting sheets like Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets (€2.50). Blot, don’t wipe, away shine and grease without disrupting your make-up.
The best thing to keep fresh in the sun and pre vent excess sweating is a brumitiser. Evian do a great 150ml travel sized canister so you can keep it in your handbag and mist whenever you want to keep cool and perspiration at bay.
W
hile dermatologists and doctors have demonized the sun for years, it’s not as bad as you have been led to believe. Yes, it does cause skin damage and over exposure can lead to skin cancer. But the good news is, in small doses, sun has actually been scientifically proven to be good for you. In the last few years numerous studies have proven that Vitamin D (most of us get 90-95% of the necessary amount through the sun’s rays) may prevent 16 different types of cancer including prostate, breast, ovarian and colon. According to further European studies it also prevents diabetes, multiple sclerosis and boosts fertility & testosterone (baby-making is also more common in summer months – be warned!) Plus we have all read at some point about Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD which is specifically caused by lack of sunlight. People with SAD tend to be more depressed and overweight. Higher levels of serotonin in our bodies not only makes you feel happier, it also surpresses the appetite, so you eat less in warmer weather. Bonus! But be warned, the recommended level of sun exposure required to ward off illness and ailments is only 30 minutes of exposure 4-5 times a week. And a sunscreen of minimum Factor 15 is also advised.

Waterproof mascara is another must. One of the best on the markets today is the classic Maybelline New York Great Lash Waterproof Mascara at a non-bank breaking (€7), it provides voluminous lashes without clumps and smudging. Perfect for beach and pool days as this bad boy doesn’t shift even when diving in the pool.

It can double-up as a serum and is better than most on the market today. Use sparingly though to look gorgeous not greasy. Sun, chlorine and salt water can really dull coloured hair. To keep yours looking vibrant this summer apply a restorative mask once a week like Oribe Masque for Beautiful Colour (€90). Protect About 30 minutes before going in the sun apply a spray with a UV heat protector. The sun dries out hair and UV damages so sprays work by coating individual hair shafts with a protective coating. Be sure to distribute spray evenly through hair with a brush or wide toothed comb. Scalps are also sensitive and prone to burning so always remember to apply your sun protection spray to your parting as well. For instant boho glam tie a headscarf around your hair. This way you don’t have to mess around with a hairdryer and you have the added bonus of having your hair protected from damaging UV rays. Blondes, if your planning on
swimming it’s always best to apply a conditioner or leave-in conditioner to showered hair before going in the pool. Chemical reactions of bleached hair with copper ions or chlorine in swimming pool water may put a green tinge into your blonde hair. By showering and applying conditioners before swimming you protect the hair shafts so none of the harmful chemicals can penetrate. Too Late…. Your hair has a nasty green tinge! No problem, buy an acidic ketchup from your local supermarket. A Mercadona own brand is better than Heinz, leave on your hair for 15 minutes to strip the chemicals out. Can’t face ketchup then opt for a dissolvable paracetomol. Eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer. The vitamins A and B help keep your hair strong and healthy. And finally a great tip from one of the world’s most gorgeous women, Blake Lively! The former Gossip Girl star swears by sea water to get her beach ready waves. She simply scrunches salt water in her hair and twirls into a loose messy bun on the top of her head. When it has air dryed she unwraps and has beautiful flowing waves. Plus at no damage to her hair. Heat appliances and hours of styling in the hot Californian weather is unnecessary, Blake reveals.

ara Delevingne is probably the luckiest girl in the world. Not only is she the model of the moment, with a whopping 8 campaigns under her designer belt, but the 22-year-old can act and it looks like she might become the next big singing sensation. The rumour mill has gone into overdrive that she has been signed by none other than Simon Cowell’s SyCo record label. Earlier this year, Cara was spotted leaving his London office and Sinitta, who often mentors acts alongside Cowell on ‘X Factor’, revealed that she was working with the model on a “top-secret project”. Although both Cara and Cowell’s camps are remaining tight lipped on the matter… for now. Cara has also previously expressed a desire to break into music. “If I’ve made a fair bit of money or whatever, I can stop modeling and I’ll do music,” she said. “I will cut six months out of the year to make an album. That’s the point. I can’t just be here and there do recording sessions, you’ve got to stop and you get rid of everything, all the s**t that’s going on around you and actually lock yourself away and do it.” Cara’s already proven she has a set of lungs. She first recorded an acoustic track with London musician Will Heard in August last year called “Sonnentanz” (Sun Don’t Shine) which has received over 500,000 plus plays on You Tube. The song peaked at number 3 on the iTunes Singles Chart.
She described her musical style as “quite jazzy, quite soulful...My voice is very husky. It’s always about emotions. Well, usually anyway. I’m just not into happyclappy pop. Unless it’s happy-clappy pop in a good way.” The model can also play the guitar in addition to the drums and even recorded an album with “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller in her teens, although when her modeling career took off, she was unable to dedicate the time required to Fuller and the album was scrapped.

It’s absolutely fantastic having such an experienced and well So why did you choose the name Kameelion? When I originally started making music when I was 17, I was creating different pieces and different genres. I was working with acoustic type stuff, working with rappers, creating electro pop... and I never really decided which direction to go down. So, like the animal Chameleon blends in to the surroundings, I decided to take that concept but divert it more musically and came up with Kameelion. POLO THE SPORT OF KINGS
P
olo, once seen as a sport dominated by kings and the ruling class originally dating back to 600 BC, has never enjoyed such a mass appeal as it does today.
It is estimated that there are 1 billion polo fans worldwide and the sport is played in over 80 countries. The popularity of polo is buoyed on even more by the fact that in this gorgeous Spanish climate, every day is geared towards being outside in the sunshine and beautiful green grass settings of the polo fields, where people can soak up the atmosphere, speed, thrill and adrenaline that comes with viewing a high-octane polo match. What else is good about the polo is you don’t necessarily have to be a major sports or equestrian fan to enjoy it. The rules are simple and laid out for you, matches don’t drag on like they can with a dull nil all football match. There are invariably always goals and each match lasts 40 minutes but is broken up into 4 units or chukkas as
they are known, lasting 7 and a half minutes each. This, in comparison to other drawn out sports tournaments, makes matches short and intense. Plus, the game is beautiful to watch. Lithe polo horses working in unison with daring polo players chasing the 110mph polo ball around the field with menacing looking mallets. If it sounds like something like a Jilly Cooper novel, it is! Probably another reason for the increasing numbers of women spectators at the polo. There is also a real touch of glamour associated with the polo. It is where men and women can come and dress up, wear panama hats, sip Pimms and champagne whilst watching the game. Polo’s origins as a game of King’s,ll has added to the glamour of events. And even today it is a game consistently played by royalty and society. Prince William and Harry are both players and fans of polo and our cover girl Cara Delevigne is often seen at matches. Floaty fabrics for women and crisp designer shirts are the look of the moment for August polo – if you’re not sure what to wear check out our Polo Fashion Photoshoot for some stunning looks from in and around the best boutiques in Marbella and surrounding areas.

play polo at least three times a week and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my free time. I’ve represented England playing at all levels and even captained the England team at the O2 Arena in London, as well as competing all around the world. I have also been playing beach and snow polo for many years. In fact I may be coming to nearby Tarifa in September to play a Spanish tournament. There have been many personal highlights of my career but the best was playing a professional polo tournament with my Dad. You don’t see many fathers and sons appearing together in a top-level sport.
Polo is totally bonkers but also the most exciting and thrilling sport to ever play. Most people do get injured, I’ve already suffered a broken knee cap, countless bruises and fractured my eye socket. But the worst polo accident was sustained by my father in 2006. He suffered severe brain injuries in a freak accident at our polo ground. He unfortunately never recovered from the accident and died in 2008, aged 66. His accident didn’t put me off playing though. I thought about it, but polo is in my blood and I know that Dad wouldn’t have wanted me to stop. At least my father died as a result of doing something he loved.

It was my dad, Bryan Morrison (former manager of Pink Floyd and publisher of music by Elton John, the Bee Gees and Wham) who got me into polo. La Quinta S
et on the world famous Sotogrande Polo Fields, you’d be hard pushed to find a more beautiful and tranquil setting than Argentinian Steak House, La Quinta. The restaurant prides itself on serving the finest cuts imported directly from Argentina, cooked by top head chefs Sebastian Gallerdo and Lucas Martin.
If you like live entertainment, there is a fantastic Tango and dance show at La Quinta every Tuesday night, which is not to be missed. The entertainment kicks off at 9.30pm and goes on till late, be sure to book early to get a great spot near the stage.
The chateaubriand, fillet with pepper or chimichurri sauce and creamed spinach are firm favourites. Sometimes its rare to find a steak restaurant (excuse the pun!) that excels in its other dishes but La Quinta does just that. The plum chicken is spicy and tangy and one of the best dishes on the menu. Non meat-eaters will also be impressed with the vast selection of vegetarian, pasta and salad dishes.
Also while La Quinta is arguably one of the busiest restaurants in Sotogrande, the service is always second to none. The charming and attentive owner Sebastian is always there to meet and great his guests and regulars. And if anyone likes a side of celeb spotting with their meal - charismatic Formula 1 commentator Eddie Jordan is a regular here. Whilst the outdoor seating area is undoubtedly the best place to watch Polo and people watch on sunny afternoons and evenings, the restaurant itself has a warm homely feel with polo and sports paraphernalia adorning its brick wall interior.

Si Siam Si Siam is a great new Thai restaurant in Guadiaro, just across the carretera from Sotogrande. It serves the most amazing choice of dishes. The sharing platter is a great option for a starter as you can get the best of everything on the starter menu including chicken satay, prawn satay, samosa, Thai spring rolls, prawn toast and corn cake. If you like soup, Si Siam recommend the Tom Kar Gui coconut soup. It has a great flavour and is full of succulent pieces of chicken, or you can opt for prawn.
in case you want to spice things up a bit. There is a wide choice of desserts but Mango with coconut sticky rice, or Khao Neaw Mamuang, is an excellent traditional Thai dessert and refreshing palate cleanser after your main meal. La Finca Fusion A hidden gem of a restaurant, which is, just outside the La Casita campsite next to the Alcaidesa community and across the road from the famous golfing resort of San Roque Club. This restaurant is a great find as it serves some of the best Thai food on the Costa del Sol, yet you would never know it was here. La Finca Fusion rarely advertises and they rely on word of mouth from pleased customers, many of which return week after week.
La Finca is set inside a 300 year old Finca (hence its name). In the past all the land, which makes up Alcaidesa, San Roque Club and Sotogrande belonged to this Finca. Over the years land was sold, now La Finca is nearly all that remains of this once vast estate. La Finca is family owned and operated by the descendants of the original family. With low level lighting and bright, exuberant dĂŠcor, this restaurant oozes
old-Spanish, rustic charm- which the owners work hard to maintain.
to those who want dishes on the mild side.
The menu is varied with an array of starters including chicken satay, tempura prawns and dumplings to name a few.
The wine list is also varied and has something for everyone, we went for Le Cibron, which was a perfect accompaniment to the spice of the main dishes. There’s even two bars on site serving locally brewed IPA ales, a must if you fancy something different then the typical Spanish beers.
The main dishes are where La Finca excel though. La Finca is a fusion restaurant and prides itself in blending traditional Thai with local produce. The special of Wild Boar Massaman curry takes advantage of local wild boar and is something to be experienced. The Panang Steak, a tender filet with panang curry drizzled on top, is another dish that is unique to La Finca. Of course you can always get traditional Thai like Green Curry, Pad Thai, and a variety of stir fry dishes all of which are highly recommended. The restaurant has weekly specials, which take advantage of fresh local seafood. Some dishes come spicy-look for the chilli peppers on the menu! And while an extra hot may be for most palettes, it is incredibly spicy. The waiter will always add caution when ordering! La Finca can always cater

adorning the walls alongside a cavernous wine fridge and tables laid to perfection.
The stunning French fusion cuisine served at Boka is well deserved of its Michelin Recommendation. The menu is incredibly varied and you can sample anything from foie gras, risotto and a fantastic selection of fish. Recommendations include Wagyu Beef, Thai Style Ravioli and SeeBass, and the Cod is exquisite. The tasting menu is also a great option if you are undecided on what to go for. It’s also great for the additional touches. The Lemon Gras Sorbet or Tomato Jelly Horseradish are just some of the palate cleansers served in addition to your main meal at no extra charge. Unexpected but well received.
The husband and wife team of French chef Jerome and his beautiful wife Haby own and run this restaurant and are both on hand to make sure things are running to an impeccable standard every night. Marbella Rocks recommends booking early as Boka gets very busy in the summer and if you prefer al Fresco dining, request so on booking, to get the best and most coveted seats overlooking the Plaza. Although if you miss out, dining in the main restaurant has its advantages too as guests can look out over the beautiful beaches of neighbouring Torreguadiaro.
Another plus point for Boka is the modern and stylish fuschia and black themed décor. You can tell as soon as you walk into the restaurant that it is of a different class with interesting pieces of high-spec art

very year, on the last Wednesday of August, a food fight festival breaks out in the streets of a small town known as Buñol, located near Valencia. Thousands of people from all areas of the world join together to partake in what’s famously known as ‘The World’s Biggest Food Fight’. The event has been a strong tradition in Buñol since 1945, but it is not fully known how the festival originated. Some possible theories on how the Tomatina began include a practical joke on a bad musician, an accidental lorry spillage or the most popularly believed theory is that the event started as an anti-Franco protest. All the festivities kick off at around 11am, when 140 tonnes of tomatoes are trucked in to the ‘Plaza del Pueblo’ ready for the 30,000 visitors to grab and throw in the battle. Technically, the food fight can only begin when one courageous person has successfully climbed the soap-covered pole known as the Palojabón, to retrieve the ham. However, this challenging task is not always successfully completed, causing the battle to start regardless! Once the water canon has been fired, the carnage ensues and it’s every man for himself.

FEATURES If being covered in tomato slop isn’t really your thing, this week-long festival offers other exciting attractions to suit all types of visitors to Buñol, including paella cook-offs, parades, fireworks, music and dancing. Expect drama, chaos and an amazing atmosphere in the streets of this small Valencian town! After exactly one hour, the fighting ends when the second and final water cannon is fired, at which point no more tomatoes can be thrown. This is when the huge clean-up gets underway; a Roman aqueduct provides all the water used by fire trucks to spray down all the streets of Buñol. Fortunately, due to the tomatoes’ acidity, the streets get left sparkling clean; however, this cannot strictly be said of the people. Struggling to remove all the tomato traces from their bodies, competitors are commonly seen wading in the local river once the battle has finished.

Prior to 2013, between 40,000 and 50,000 people were reported to have attended the event, greatly expanding Buñol’s 9,000 person population. Since then, it has been decided that in order to reduce the number of visitors, official ticketing has been put in place so that only 20,000 lucky people get to attend. So if you’re interested in attending, get your hands on some tickets as soon as possible before they all sell out!

HAIR & BEAUTY
HISTORY OF
EXTENSIONS
H
air Extensions have been an accessory for the rich and famous for centuries. There is evidence that the Egyptian ruler Cleopatra was a huge fan of this type of enhancement. Extensions and wigs have been worn by both genders up until the 18th century, when the vain obsession was banned by the government in England. However, this did not take on, and rich nobles soon returned to hair extensions which remained popular up until the 1st World War. During this period the importation of luxury hair stopped and short hairstyles came into fashion as a result. Hair extensions have always been the accessory for the crème de la crème, for thousands of years, but it all changed in the 90’s, when extensions become affordable for everyone. Why hair extensions? The obvious reason for having hair extensions is to achieve sexy glamorous locks. Using hair extensions for length is a great way to achieve that personal statement and create a look that turns heads as soon as you walk into a room. Hair extensions can provide an instant solution to those recovering from a bad hairstyle, adding length to the hair that does not naturally grow well or as a tool for growing your own hair. Anything over 16 inches is considered long hair extensions, but recently crazily long hair has become popular and now hair extensions are available in lengths up to 30 inches. Thanks for that J-Lo!!!!
Types of hair extensions Types of application are suited to individual personal needs, determined after consultation with a fully qualified professional. Depending on the reason for having hair extensions, lifestyle and necessary durability - the right type or combination of methods are chosen for the service. Generally, hair extensions used today are divided by method of application into two groups, individually bonded and weft extensions.

HAIR & BEAUTY
INDIVIDUALLY BONDED
T
however the initial hair used from the first service can last up to 14 months.
Downside:
hese are hair extensions that are attached to the person’s hair by creating a bond that seals the hair extensions hair to person’s hair with bonds made from keratin or other types of organic material. Since the 90’s glue and silicone have not legally been allowed to be used after evidence was found that it was damaging the hair of the person having the extension service. Make sure your extensionists are using the right tools and materials before your service. Always check products and materials used.
Individually bonded hair extensions are usually the most expensive on the market. However, we like to refer to this as your beauty investment as after the full head application the hair extensions are kept to be reused every 6-8 weeks when maintenance for these systems are performed. In layman’s terms - maintenance involves taking all the hair extensions out of your hair and moving them higher up to the root. This is a necessary procedure as the natural hair grows on average around ½ an inch every 6 weeks. Maintenance is also required to ensure that the hair carrying hair extensions are placed on a different strand giving necessary rotation, which is the main key to having hair extensions in a healthy way. At this point if more hair extensions are necessary they can be added,

removed if necessary, by remover or acetone.
- Even though the positive and the negative for this system is that it is easily removed, the side effect can be that a little hair extension shedding can occur.
HOT MELT APPLICATION METHOD
T
his was one of the original methods available in the extensions market, that is unfortunately disappearing, as a result of the complicated skills involved in the method of application. Inspired by the ancient application system, using candle and bees wax for applying hair extensions, this system uses a gun applicator that melts keratin sticks, which are then rolled into bonds using extension hair.
- It is also not suitable for people with overactive lifestyles including spending large amounts of time in hot and humid environments. Also certain shampoos and other hair products are not compatible for this system.
MAGIC EXTENSIONS OR MICRO EXTENSIONS
B
ased on the same principle as the hair extension system above, this system is provided by using different tools. A special applicator applies a keratin tape forming a bond, which is heated to body temperature. This system is also referred to as ‘cold fusion hair extensions’.
Although, this method involves using high heat of just below 100° it is still lower than that provided by average hair straighteners including GHD’s, which heat up to 220°. The bonds are light, clear and are the size of a rice grain, which are then distributed throughout the hair in specific patterns. This system is good for first time hair extension application as the system lasts around 6-8 weeks and are easily
Upside: - Excellent, if this is the first time you’re having hair extensions. - This system is safe and can be used on short hair.
Initially, developed for people suffering from alopecia and later readjusted to use in hair extension services. This system can provide the smallest bonds available today.
HAIR & BEAUTY It is perfect for people with very short hairstyles who desire a change in the most naturally looking way. This system is also perfect for micro extension work such as eliminating fringes or filling crown areas, achieving height at the top. This system is also the most popular for men as it can provide a solution for guys with male pattern boldness. These extensions are more water and humidity resistant.
Upside: - Durable and reliable system. - Virtually invisible bonds, therefore ideal for very short hair.
KERATIN HARD WEARING SYSTEM
T
his system is a very durable and hard-wearing way of having hair extensions.
Often chosen by girls with busy, active lifestyles that are not novices in having hair extensions. This system consists of using keratin tablets to pre-bond the hair and apply it to hair with a specialist machine. This system also involves using higher heat therefore the bonds have a higher melting point providing greater durability.
- The most natural looking hair extension system available today.
Upside: - Less shedding - Heat and water resistant compared to - other systems - Looks good
Downside: - As a hard-wearing system it can result in a problem when they are required to be removed. This is a problem if the extensions have only recently been applied. - Also for the same reason, these extension bonds don’t go soft and always appear new. This can give a false sense of reassurance for the time of maintenance. - These hair extensions can last up for 12-13 weeks without maintenance, not saying that is healthy for your hair, as the hair extensions require regular rotation.
- Can be used to disguise baldness such as Alopecia, or recovery from chemotherapy. - Suitable for all hair textures. Great for men.
Downside: - As the system is more durable it has less negative features, however some people have found that the bonds may feel a bit hard and irritating for the first few days after the service. - Also the service is more expensive and can take anything from 3 – 8 hours depending on the desired outcome.
It is also great in combination with other systems when applied on certain parts of the head that are more prone to dampness such as excessive sweating. It is definitely the best system for those hot summer months in The Costa Del Sol. Longer durability, with maintenance not necessary for 8-10 weeks. This system is extra durable and perfect for those who are more then a novice to hair extensions. If you have had hair extensions for more then 12 months, then this is the system you may been looking for. As the maintenance is not required as often as the other systems this system can be better value for the money.
MICRO RINGS
T
his is a no heat with this type of extension. The bonding application system involves holding extensions in place with a silicone coated metal bead. It is ideal for applying both wefts and individual hair extensions.
ISSUE 03 02 | MARBELLAROCKS
73
HAIR & BEAUTY Mostly this system is used for temporary hair extensions as maintenance is required. Its only takes from 40 minutes to 1½ hours’ time per service. It is ideal for weddings, photo shoots and special events.
These hair extensions take the same amount of time as other systems. They are durable and easy to apply, using heated application machines.
Downside: - As with any pre bonded hair extension system, it can work out a costly way of having hairextensions. - The colour blending is also very limited and it tends to achieve a striped hair extension look. - This system is not designed to be reused so the client is expected to buy new hair every 2-3 months in order to maintain the extensions. Also the size of the bonds cannot be adjusted to person’s individual needs, which can cause damage to the hair.
Downside: - Despite the quick application time there are quite a few downfalls for this system. Starting from cost, it can be pricey as the hair that is used is pre bonded in a special way. - The beads, although the smallest ones available, can sometimes be visible when the hair is wet. Also the hair does not fall naturally in a glamorous way and this system requires quite a lot of styling so it can look its best. - For durability this system is not great and the best use of it can be gained for a short period of time as it last up to 6 weeks. - Also colour blending is limited and for the best results it works on hair that has only been coloured to one particular tone.
- The bigger the bonds the more traction and less flexibility it can cause.
WEFTED HAIR EXTENSIONS
T
his system is used mainly for Afro Caribbean hair, as it involves keeping hair in a plait called cornrows for a long period of time.
The wefts of hair are sewed to the braids to create the hairstyle. This is great way of achieving hair extensions styles without integrating the person’s real hair into it.
Downside: - It is the most uncomfortable system to have done and to wear. It’s not suitable for European hair as it tends to produce large amounts of natural oil, which cannot be washed out with this type of hair system.
PRE BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS
T
he market today is flooded by various brands such as Great Lengths and Balmain, offering pre bonded hairextensions for salon use.
03 74 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 02
- The build-up of oil and salts that the body produces can result in itchiness and scalp irritation as well as traction alopecia from the tightness of the cornrows. - This system can also work out quite difficult to manage and requires regular maintenance as it loosens quickly and it gains movement across the head.

HAIR & BEAUTY What else do you offer? Helena Benson qualified as a medical doctor in Moscow 25 years ago and specialises in anti ageing treatments such as dermal fillers, anti-frowning injections, chemical peels and semi permanent make-up. Juvederm and Belotero are dermal fillers that are used for filling in fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and for making small lips looking bigger and more sensual. These fillers are based on Hyaluronic Acid. They produce immediate results and stimulate formation of collagen in the skin which helps with its youthful appearance. Effect of this treatment usually lasts for about 9 months. Radiesse is a dermal implant that lasts up to 2 years and is based on Calcium. It’s the best known treatment for deep naso-labial folds and cheek bones enhancement that produces immediate results. Prior to injection this product is mixed with anaesthetic so the procedure is virtually painless. Each syringe contains 1,5 ml of the product. TCA skin peels produce amazing results by rejuvenating the skin. The new skin appears to look healthy and smooth. Medium depth TCA peel also helps to eliminate small wrinkles and reduce the pore size. This is truly “Look 10 years younger treatment” but it requires 1 week downtime while the skin is peeling and healing. Effect of 1 treatment lasts for about a year. Semi-permanent makeup for “hair-stroke” natural looking eyebrows, fine or dramatic eyeliner and beautifully shaped lips contour. Results of this treatment last for up to 5 years but requires one retouch following the first application within 10 weeks. sometimes have to stop and remember how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. Marbella and the Costa Del Sol has great nightlife, pool parties and yachts for the outgoing , and picturesque mountain trails, lakes and quaint Spanish villages for the more relaxed of us. We also have an abundance of gyms and fitness here on the coast but there is one place many of us take for granted with our training. THE BEACH!! There are a number of local Beach Fit groups and Bootcamps to hook up with and it’s a great way to “fun up” your daily workout. Here are a few tips on how to get started and hit the sand hard this summer.
ON THE SAND The Beach Crawl How to do it: On soft, dry sand, lower into a plank position. Then crawl forward on your hands and feet for 30 to 60 seconds. Why it works: The slippery sand destabilizes your hands and feet, activating your hamstrings and glutes. Try it sideways or backward for an extra challenge. You burn almost twice as many calories working out on the sand as you would doing the same routine on a firmer surface, according to a study recently published in the Journal of Strength Conditioning and Resistance.
HEALTH & FITNESS 10-20 Drill How to do it: On a stretch of soft, dry sand near the water, take 10 quick running steps, followed by 20 slower running steps. Then jog back to the starting point on the hard, wet portion of the sand right along the water. Repeat two to three times. Why it works: This simple-sounding drill activates your inner abdominal wall and works your feet, ankles, hamstrings, and glutes to steady each step and keep your body upright on soft sand. Go farther away from the water, where the sand is harder to walk on, to challenge yourself even more. The sand provides an unstable surface which will challenge your nervous system, as well as add resistance as you sink into the sand. You will feel the added difficulty in the first couple of reps.
Run, Run, Skip How to do it: On a stretch of soft, dry sand near the water, take two running steps then one skipping step. Repeat for 30 to 60 seconds, then beach crawl (see above) or jog back to the starting point on the hard, wet sand along the water. Repeat two to four times. Why it works: Because your feet sink into the sand, it’s harder to leap up off it. And since your legs follow your arms, you’ll naturally exaggerate the movements of your arms to get your feet off the ground on every skip. The result? Your shoulders and arms get a workout while you strengthen the front and back of your legs. Raise your knees even higher or lengthen your strides to make it even harder.
Peets tip: WARM-UP A warm up is necessary, even in the Marbella heat, to increase blood flow and oxygen to the muscles. This increases flexibility, decreases injury, and decreases fatigue. Increase hydration and mineral intake when working out in the heat.
Sand Lunges How to do them: Step forward with one foot. Keeping your front knee above your ankle, lower to the ground so that your back knee brushes the sand. Then push up through the front foot, lift your back foot off the ground and use it to step forward into a second lunge. Do six to 12 on each side. Why they work: Because the sand isn’t perfectly level, you’ll inevitably land on the inside or outside of your front foot. To keep yourself from keeling over, you’ll activate the muscles in your entire lower body.
IN THE SEA Simply treading water vigorously can zap 11 calories a minute, same as a six-mile-per-hour run. Plus, water’s continuous resistance forces you to engage more muscle fibres through a larger range of motion, so you’ll firm from every angle. These also work great in your swimming pool. Do these exercises in waist deep water for 20-30 yards each. Repeat when finished. High knee run. 2-3 sets Butt Kicks. 2-3 sets Squat jumps. 10-20 reps Backwards run. 2-3 sets Lateral Shuffle. 2-3 sets Peets Tip: If you’re injured and unable to perform cardio, Aqua jogging in the sea can help maintain your fitness levels whilst reducing the pressure put on your joints and tendons. Great work, now it’s time to lay a towel, enjoy a protein shake and relax in the sunshine.

running, and listening to my favourite music. Inspiration to me is not ‘locked to something special’ like just one situation or activity, but it’s more of a way of looking at things, it’s about being curious about... anything really... But I do feel extra inspired if I have a new set of markers, or if I am travelling somewhere! People’s weirdness and “quirkiness” is what I find the most fascinating about a person, and when I draw, I am inspired by this. For me beauty and creativity is all about the ‘flaws’!” The drawings are all made by hand with washable chalk, paint or acrylic markers and first started when Helene left lipstick messages for her flatmates on their mirrors until one day she decided to turn the drawing into a selfie and post it online.

sabell’s artworks are unique objects that titillate the imagination. They are made from a combination of photography and collages created from found objects and a variety of media. Isabell uses disposable materials such as used light balls and CDs, packaging materials, mousetraps, clothing pins and scourers with pages from her favourite books used as a background. She also features video material, which she builds into her objects, to create a four-dimensional effect resulting in an interactive relationship with the spectator. These tremendous labour-intensive figurative works are highly layered and through their broad choice of materials they tell inspiring stories. Isabell Beyel is presented internationally; through high-level galleries, at famous art fairs and she is also included in most important art collections and museums all over the world. Isabell Beyel is one of the leading ladies in the new Art project “PERFUME” which will take place in autumn. You can view the work of Isabell Beyel at the Red Penguin Gallery in Marbella

TRICKS OF THE TRADE Prepare To Face A Job Interview with Confidence
S
o you’ve put in the time sending off applications, writing covering letters, tweaking and re-tweaking your CV, meeting with recruiters and lots of positive job-hunting activity! Finally it’s starting to pay off. People want to meet with you and the appointments are starting to pour in. Time to prepare for ... THE INTERVIEW So let’s take a walk through some simple preparation tips and just what you can expect from your average job interview. PREPARATION: Think about why you want this job and where it fits in with your career plans. Research the company, their mission statement and exactly what they do. Where possible also try to research the person that will be interviewing you either through LinkedIn or on the company website. This will help you to build more of a rapport with the interviewer; a large proportion of any hiring is usually based upon a personal connection. Asking questions about why that individual likes their job and what they do for the company can really help you to go a long way. Pre-prepare questions based around your research and in relation to what you need to know about the company and the role in terms of your own goals and progression. Ensure that you have the following basic but crucial information: 1. Correct date and time of the interview. 2. Location, map and full address/contact details of the company or location at which you are interviewing. 3. Plan your travel time and transport/parking plans. 4. Name and position of who you are meeting and who to ask for. 5. Job title and full job description. 6. An up to date copy of your own CV. 7. Your prepared questions - having fully researched the company you are interviewing with. APPEARANCE: Hopefully this should be obvious but always remember that first impressions are so very important. In my opinion I would always tend to dress smart for an interview even if you know that the actual company culture is more relaxed and casual. It’s the first time your potential new employer will see you and you want them to know that you mean business, can be smart and tidy and that you care enough to present yourself properly. THE INTERVIEW: Keep calm, breathe and focus. It’s normal to be nervous but focus those nerves in a positive way. If you’ve done your preparation then you have no need
to worry. Of course interviewers may try to ask tricky questions to test you under pressure but you can handle it. Just don’t jump to answer too quickly, don’t be afraid to pause and think of a constructive and appropriate answer instead of going for what first comes into your head. Try not to fiddle or twitch by way of showing your nerves. Sit tall, feel strong and believe in yourself and your skills. Smile and make lots of eye contact, be personable. Remember they have already seen your CV so they already see something in you that they think could be relevant for their company and the position you’re interviewing for so don’t let that voice in your head get the better of you! AFTERWARDS: It may not be something we tend to do very often nowadays but it is actually quite nice to show your enthusiasm and professionalism by sending a brief thank you email or letter afterwards. This happened to a friend of mine recently who had been interviewing for new staff. It really made that candidate stand out and showed that he was serious about the role for which he had interviewed. It doesn’t need to be long or too gushing just short, polite and professional should do the job. If you got the interview through a recruitment agency then it probably won’t be appropriate to send a thank you directly. However do ensure you speak to your consultant as soon as possible and give them your honest feedback. If you are keen, let them know. If you aren’t then be honest otherwise you will only waste theirs and your own time. Hopefully all will go well. However if you’re unsuccessful this time around then don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. You should always take feedback both positive and negative and use it to improve your approach next time around. So that’s a few brief tips and ideas for approaching the dreaded interview! Take it seriously and prepare, prepare, prepare! Make sure you understand your own career history and goals. Review your strengths and weaknesses and go in there and knock em dead!
TOP TIP “If you’re not already connected - LinkedIn is the best social media tool for careers. The benefit for job-seekers is two-fold making you more visible to recruiters and giving you greater access to information about who’s hiring and what’s happening in the job-market around you. For tips on how to get the most out of your profile make sure you pick-up next months edition of Marbella Rocks.” ISSUE 02 03 | MARBELLAROCKS

ASTROLOGY
MARBELLA ROCKS ASTROLOGY FORECAST AUGUST 2014
Aries
Gemini
Leo
An unexpected romantic opportunity could land right in your lap at the start of the month providing a welcome distraction. Something you need to know or have been ignoring could be revealed for what it is in the second week. If travelling, don’t rush - curb your impatience and take time to take in the scenery or you could miss out. You’re seeking a bigger slice of life now but don’t fall into the trap of being an adrenaline junkie - or take unnecessary risks if you are exploring somewhere new. The month’s end brings a new phase in relationships, as you are feeling extra romantic. Don’t be afraid to show your true feelings as others will warm to your softer, more vulnerable side now.
Hone your flirtation skills this month Gemini, as you’re going to have plenty of opportunities to put them to good use. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself both the life and soul of the party or in the spotlight either socially or at work. Better put your best face and your best outfit forward. If single and seeking, then something special could be starting for you at the end of the month but expect more than one confidence-boosting encounter. It’s not just affecting your personal life but your career. You’re looking closely at what you’ve achieved so far and contemplating your next big move. Don’t undersell yourself in any situation - whether it’s to a prospective mate or a new employer.
Never one to lurk behind the scenes, get ready for unexpected invites or opportunities to be centre stage - or to create them. You’re ambitious in a way you’ve not been for quite some time and feeling anything is possible for you right now. Understand that it is but often we are the ones who have to create our own opportunities. Change is in the air for you and it’s going to be all about coming from a place of emotional power especially if you are involved in salary or financial discussions with someone else. It’s important not to compromise your integrity or sense of self-worth as you’re in a position to get what you want now.
Taurus
Cancer
Virgo
Mid month could see you the focus of more than one person’s attention. Expect to get noticed wherever you go - is it that fabulous fresh vibe you’re projecting? If you’ve not been feeling at your most confident recently then fake it till you make it as nobody will doubt that charisma is real. Friendships could offer more than opportunities to get out and have fun now as new and possibly influential connections can be made whether for professional or personal reasons - you’re catching someone’s eye. Romance hots up and singles could be set for a sizzling encounter or two that leaves you breathless and totally transformed. It’s not for forever but you won’t forget it in a hurry.
You’re in the mood to talk about love and if the object of your passions just happens to be someone from far away, larger than life or exotic in some way then so much, the better. Long distance travel or romantic encounters are all favoured now as are pursuing those big dreams you have. The bigger the better in fact. Some of you may be contemplating moving and if you do especially around the end of the month you could be unpacking for some time. A close connection may have been going through changes recently but ask yourself which one of you has actually changed - them, you or both? What serves you is locked in and what doesn’t is let go of.
Finances are in focus with opportunities to boost your bank account but expect work to increase in line with this. This may not be a bad thing as energy put into work gets diverted away from home where things may boil over if someone you live with rubs you up the wrong way. If this happens don’t be surprised if it’s more than rooms you end up changing. Other than that, you’re unusually accommodating right now and that can even include ignoring someone else’s mess unless it intrudes on your space. However, when it comes to you and another you may now be looking at whether the relationship is an asset to you or not. It’s either money in the bank or time to trade up.

Time to clear out your closets - and by that, I mean clear out anything that weighs you down. If it’s worn-out and no longer serves you be it that outfit that’s been in there since the ‘90’s or that connection which drains you, events at the end of the month should highlight exactly what these are. If you’ve been paying your finances some serious attention then you should now be seeing that money is taking you more seriously too so resist any impulse spending and you’ll see more time in the black now than in the red. You’re in the mood to socialise and for once perhaps more interested in this than one-to-one connections. New friends can be made, so make that extra effort to get out and about.
What transpires this month sets you free or could involve that monumental ‘lucky’ break that has you appreciating the truth in the saying ‘It took me 12 years to become an overnight sensation’. Expect larger than life experiences and romance especially if travelling. Anything to do with the media and studying is favoured and a piece of news that arrives around mid-month could prove pivotal to this. If you’ve been contemplating applying for that fabulous position, promotion or just launching that big idea then the time is now. The only limitations you face are the ones you place on yourself. You’re being offered the opportunity to create the launching pad from which you can aim for the stars - but flying high begins by having both feet on the ground.
If you’re ready for love to sweep you away or to rekindle the fire with your current squeeze then this is the month to bring in those kinds of ‘forever’ conversations. Be warned however, that if things have been shaky of late they may now shudder and collapse entirely. If this occurs you shouldn’t be sad for long as other opportunities will soon put a smile back on your face. Careerwise, what you have been trying to achieve for so long either comes enticingly close or you realise that it’s time to strike out in a new direction entirely. If you have been knocking on doors that refuse to open then take this as a sign you’re knocking on the wrong doors.
Scorpio
Capricorn
Pisces
If people have underestimated you or the depth of your quiet ambition they may be in for a surprise when you announce a breathtaking career move or alliance with someone special. Dealing with lots of people could be part and parcel of all this and if so you could be getting more than just social media attention. Don’t be surprised if others look to you for advice as you’re coming across as someone who knows what they want and where they are going. Home and family matters are in focus and some of you could make the decision to move or relocate perhaps as the result of that spectacular offer. If you’re headed for success, there could be at least one person who’s coming along for the ride.
Building something new in your life is what this month is all about and this could occur around a relationship as anything you create now has strong foundations for the future. What you share with others and what they are prepared to share with you will be a big theme in the coming months and you may be involved in joint financial or contract negotiations while others could benefit from someone else’s generosity. When it comes to love however, you want more than just a passing fling as you have a yearning to connect on a deeper level than ever before. If your present partner can’t appreciate this need then you will attract a new one that will.
Singles may discover that a romance has long-term potential while others may be moving towards things getting a lot more serious. Use your intuition mid-month as it is letting you know whether something or someone is for real - or just pulling the wool over your eyes. When you know which one it is act accordingly. Something may have you feeling restless and you may find it hard to concentrate on the task in hand. Ask yourself where this desire for escapism is coming from. What are you running away from and if you do, what do you expect to find when you get ‘there’ - wherever that may be? Yes, it’s a great time to be planning that trip but don’t forgetwherever you go, there you are.

CAN YOU BE HAPPY FOR 100 DAYS IN A ROW?! Everyone’s Talking About…
Y
ou may have seen this hashtag “#100HappyDays” trending on various social media networks recently and wondered what the hell is going on and why everyone is being so bloody cheery all of a sudden! Well the whole movement originated from one 27 year old, Dmitry Golubnichy, with the intention to stop and remember what truly makes him happy every day. “I believe that being happy is a choice and everyone can be happy just by appreciating little things in life one has, instead of engaging in the constant chase for ever rising internal & external expectations, which leaves no time for being happy.” People have spent thousands of years chasing the holy grail of happiness and finally this social media craze might just be what we’ve been looking for all this time!
03 108 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 02
It’s not a showing-off contest, or an opportunity to brag (funnily enough this will automatically eliminate you from the competition!). The idea behind this trend is that with our lives as fast-paced as ever, we rarely take the time to sit back and appreciate the relatively simple joys of life. It doesn’t have to be anything as drastic as a lottery win - even a picture of something tasty you’ve eaten or a random act of kindness noticed that day. My personal favourite was a friend’s 16-year-old daughter doing a load of washing. With the slogan “This is actually my daughter’s hand putting the washing powder in not mine.” People who have successfully completed the challenge have claimed that they have become more optimistic, received more compliments from strangers, and even fallen in love! So are you up for the challenge? If so visit www.100happydays.com for more information. It’s translated into 23 languages and so far a spokesman for the group claims they already have 1m followers. Whether it be Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, select the social network of your choice and get posting!
ON THE FLIP SIDE PERHAPS POSTING #100UNHAPPY PICTURES IS MORE UP YOUR STREET? While partaking in the #100HappyDay challenge, it was found that only 29% of people actually managed to successfully post all 100 photographs, quoting lack of time as the main reason for failure.
H
owever, a more deep-rooted reason for failure was discovered amongst some partakers. Various people claimed that during the contest, they felt that their reasons for happiness were too personal to share with the rest of the world. In Radhika Sanghani’s article for the Telegraph, she claimed “the part that really got to me was that the whole exercise was so public. So many of the things that make me truly happy are often quite private moments. I don’t really want to tweet them” In light of all these difficulties that have been found, it turns out that now, the tables have turned and a new craze has been born amongst social media fanatics. Instead of posting happy moments in their lives, in an act of rebellion people have started to hashtag their daily updates with #100UnhappyDays!
