A world of sustainability
Throughout the ship, Danfoss solutions work to reduce energy costs, monitor processes seamlessly, convert power optimally, and provide comfort for passengers. In every port, you can count on Danfoss for effective shore supply, reefer handling and logistics solutions.
Hybridisation and electrification
Hybrid solutions support all vessel types by complying with emission limits and by reducing both emission levels and fuel consumption. At the same time, hybrid propulsion and thruster solutions can extend engine maintenance intervals and engine life. With a hybrid power supply, it is even possible to reduce the size of the engines, saving investment costs and space on board. Full electrification is a highly sustainable option

for ferries, work boats and other vessels which can charge batteries regularly. With full electrification combined with renewable shore power supply you achieve not only low, but zero emissions from the ship.
Ensure safe DC-grid selectivity
VACONŽ NXP DCGuard™ enables fast disconnection and full selectivity between DC grids for all VACON NXP series drives. Utilising DC grids rather than AC grids enables power distribution with lower power losses. However, ensuring selectivity and limited short circuit energy requires more sophisticated protection devices.

Discom: Solutions for a better world!
Discom’s history goes back more than 40 years. From that time our field of work has broadened considerably. Starting out as a supplier of silencers we have grown into an all-round specialist in exhaust systems. At Discom noise limitation, reduction of hazardous emissions and waste heat recovery go hand in hand. That combination of expertise is unique. Integrating knowledge in these specialist fields enables us to coordinate systems precisely. Our expertise in complete exhaust systems for the maritime industry (inland- and seagoing vessels and navy ships) has been built up over three decades. Not only should you expect Discom to provide clear advice on how to keep noise and vibrations in line with the prevailing standards, but also to advise and assist with regulating the emission of exhaust gases. That combination of expertise means you can leave all the aspects of the exhaust system in the hands of a single specialist who guarantees optimal integration of inlet silencer, exhaust silencer, spark arrestors and mounting elements. We are specialists in both dry and ‘wet’ (water injected) exhaust systems and waste heat recovery systems. We also have a reputation of being a supplier with a keen eye for innovative techniques which increase performance or efficiency.
26
Company Profiles 2020.indd 26
Our latest developments are ‘Water Cooled Valves’ and ‘Stage V systems’. The Valves help to cool down the exhaust gas, prevents the hull from burning and reduces hot spots. Installing a ‘Stage V system’, designed, developed and produced by Discom, makes sure your ship is ready voor the high demands concerning Stage V emission limitations. For more information about our solutions, please contact our employees. They will be happy to inform and advise you about your possibilities.

Hillebrand is a division unit of ASK Romein with two Dutch sites – in Middelburg and Vlissingen. We fabricate and deliver complex steel constructions for the offshore and maritime sector and we have many years of experience in bridge, roadway and waterway construction. We provide the full range of facilities: yards adjacent to deep water with extensive loading and unloading docks, large storage and production capacity, and staff with specific offshore-related training. We impose the highest demands when executing our projects. Our people, their expertise and our fully equipped workplace guarantee the best quality for the complex constructions we engineer and build. High-quality materials and specialist welding techniques are absolutely necessary to produce structures that remain safe under the most extreme conditions. We also realise projects under the watchful eye of Lloyd’s and DNV GL. They perform quality checks, procedures and construction sequence throughout the whole fabrication process as an independent party.
Consequently, we are able to turn around a large amount of work in a short period of time and we can guarantee that the agreed deadlines will be met, which is extremely important in our sector. Hillebrand was one of the first construction companies to specialise in the processing of high-grade steel, including S690. The company has since built up an outstanding reputation within this domain.
The current market demands fast and efficient action and Hillebrand is able to respond to this due to our flexibility. If necessary, we can fabricate at several locations simultaneously and we can call on our other ASK Romein sites for extra staff, materials and semi-finished products.

Hydrex offers turnkey underwater repair solutions to shipowners wherever and whenever they are needed. Hydrex’s multidisciplinary team will help shipowners find the best solution for any problem encountered with their ships below the water line. We will immediately mobilise our diver/technicians to any location around the globe to carry out necessary repair work without the need to drydock. We have a long and successful track record of performing complex permanent underwater repairs to thrusters, propellers, rudders, stern tube seals and damaged or corroded hulls. In fact, we pioneered most of these more complex operations which once used to require drydocking, but can now be carried out with the vessel afloat. By creating drydock-like conditions around the affected area, our teams can carry out these operations on vessels in port or at anchor. This permits normal commercial activities to continue without disruption, eliminating the loss of time, production and income that drydocking entails, as well as saving the enormous expense of drydocking itself.

HyTEPS consists of a team of highly qualified and enthusiastic employees. Our team helps to optimise the reliability, efficiency, and safety of a yachts’ electrical installation. Years of knowledge and experience, combined with a broad range of services and technological innovative products make us the expert partner to turn to. Some of our products and services: – Power Quality surveys; – THD simulations; – Short-circuit calculations; – Harmonic Filters; – Monitoring hardware and software; – Commissioning and maintenance. A proper quality of electricity – Power Quality – on yachts is essential. As a result of the increased use of converters – such as LED lighting or power supplies for electronics – the Power Quality on yachts is vulnerable. A poor Power Quality can reveal itself in, for example, the flickering of lights. However, Power Quality is generally an invisible hazard, posing an imminent danger to the electrical installation.
We will provide you with optimisation advice and the proper product solution. One of these solutions is the installation of an Active Harmonic Filter to reduce harmonic pollution. For more than 10 years, our customers have experienced the benefits that these filters provide in terms of continuity, efficiency, and safety. To ensure the Power Quality and the proper functioning of the equipment in the future, we offer numerous services in the areas of simulations, calculations, monitoring, and maintenance. HyTEPS is an expert in identifying and optimising the quality of electricity on yachts. We are the specialist to turn to when you are experiencing electrical problems that might be caused by harmonics, unbalance, flickering, or one of the other aspects of Power Quality. Of course, we would also be glad to help you if you wish to prevent these power-quality-related problems from arising. “Electricity is our passion, optimisation the art form that we completely control.”

Rating: Specifically seaworthy!
KTR couplings are on the high seas all over the world and are used in various applications for marine technology: in main and auxiliary drives and every kind of deck equipment. Nearly all our couplings can be certified in accordance with the strict standards of Germanischer Lloyd (GL), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Bureau Veritas (BV), or any other classification bureau, and are approved to DIN EN 10204 standard.
Full manoeuvrability for steering drives
Bow thrusters, rear rudders and transverse rudders require couplings that dampen torsional vibrations, such as ROTEX®. Thanks to its compact design it is easy to assemble and operate. This type of coupling functions without any maintenance. ROTEX® compensates for axial, radial and angular displacements, increasing the service life of the entire drive system. Its damping effect can be 44
Company Profiles 2020.indd 44
controlled by the Shore hardness of the elastomer spider: a hard elastomer is used for high torques, a softer one is used for higher damping effects. You can keep vessels, whose rudders have a shaft diameter exceeding 600 mm, on course by using the positive-locking shaft-hub-connection CLAMPEX® clamping elements.
Power and safety on board
Wherever there is anything that needs to be moved whilst at sea, KTR couplings are involved. On IC-engines driven hydraulic power packs the flange couplings BoWex®-ELASTIC and BoWex® FLE-PA are often used, on pumps and compressors ROTEX® or POLY-NORM® or the torsional stiff steel lamina couplings RADEX®-N or RIGIFLEX®-N and on winches and cranes ROTEX® couplings and KTR-STOP high-power brake systems. KTR-STOP brakes are also used in stop-block-turn systems on the main shaft to stop, position and/or hold in position the propeller.

Components for reliable on-board hydraulics
ROTEX is used in numerous hydraulic power packs, on board as well as in board. Its easy plug-in procedure is of benefit during assembly, used in conjunction with a KTR bell housing. New KTR bell housings produced from cast iron are suitable for marine applications, withstanding the high loads and aggressive seawater in the long term. Additionally, we are pleased to supply all other hydraulic components such as oil tanks etc. Everything is available from one single source and is fully compatible for such harsh working environments.
Perfect thermo management for marine hydraulics KTR offers oil-air as well as oil-water coolers which are resistant to aggressive seawater. The compact OAC oil-air coolers for high-power cooling of hydraulic fluids and lubricants are coated with a corrosion-resistant KTL dipping paint for marine applications. They protect the cooler reliably against oxidation, even in the area between the laminas which is difficult to enter. In
addition, electric motors of protection class IP 56 are used. Even higher are the demands on TAK/T shell and tube oil-water coolers’ cooling oil with highly aggressive salt water. For these applications we use permanent seawater-resistant materials.
Success is a ‘question of selection’
KTR also offer additional support via our online selection program for couplings, hydraulic components and oil-coolers. For further information please order our brochure ‘Couplings for marine technology’ or our Company Catalogue. Both are also available as a PDF download via the KTR Web Site. Alternatively, please contact us directly. KTR continuously develops new solutions for marine technology. Simply contact us and we will design the right coupling.

Maritime Support Vlissingen (MSV) was founded in August 2018 and aims at the rapidly growing demand for tender services in the southern North Sea region. As the number of offshore windfarms grows so does the interest in tender services, but similar servicing is needed for example for crew changes and store supplies for all kinds of vessels.
Broad range of services
From its location, MSV can swiftly and flexibly service a wide area from Vlissingen offering tender services for which they use their own vessels and vessels rented from DCS Maritime. These tenders are not used just for crew changes, but also for bringing marine surveyors on board of vessels for inspection. The services provided are for their own customers, as well as for shipping agents. Apart from these services, MSV also offers CTV mooring space, office space, and storage and transshipment facilities for equipment and spare parts to third parties.
station, which is very convenient for MSV’s customers. Apart from this, the location gives MSV an excellent proposition as it is relatively close to the North Sea offshore windfarms and the oil and gas fields. With the planned newbuild premises, the company can further extend its onshore services to customers as well. In this new building, customers will find up-to-date and first-class individual offices and storage space, along with shared facilities. Using skilled technicians from within the company, MSV also offers maintenance and repair services to vessels. Upon request, the company will furthermore have available space to provide accommodation.
New offices and warehousing
The company has advanced plans for a new building for offices and warehousing at the Binnenhaven in Vlissingen. This prime location allows for good quick access to their own vessels. The Binnenhaven is close to the city of Vlissingen and within a stone’s throw from the train

How dirty is the air that you breathe on board? Piguillet and Sons was founded in 1994. After many years of experience in shipping, Mr Piguillet developed a revolutionary cleaning system for the internal cleaning of air ducts. The HPV System©. With a worldwide patent, Mr Piguillet Sr has launched what has now grown into a company that acts globally. Piguillet has its ‘roots’ in shipping and knows what is happening and what is being asked of us. Fully self-supporting and a ‘no-nonsense’ attitude with passionate people is what our company is known for. On board a 24-hour society prevails. Clean, fresh air is a must when it comes to the health of the crew. – Burning eyes – Headaches – Fatigue – Concentration loss A small selection of apparently small but nevertheless important problems. A dirty HVAC-system contributes greatly to this.
2. The HVAC systems, should be designed as followed: (a) The air maintains at a satisfactory temperature and relative humidity compared to outdoor conditions, and ensures adequate air quality in all air-conditioned areas. (b) The system shall be constructed so that it permits cleaning and disinfection in order to prevent or control the spread of diseases. A dirty, rusted Air Handling Unit (AHU) contributes to the spread of bacteria and fungus. A well-conditioned and clean HVAC-system will contribute to a good and healthy environment and will result in a good working atmosphere. Get your Air Handling System cleaned and reconditioned professionally. No evacuation of personnel and no complete dismantling of your air-ducts necessary.
Guideline B3.1.2 – Ventilation (Maritime Label Convention) 1. The system of ventilation for sleeping- and messrooms should be checked, so that the air is guaranteed to be in good condition. In all conditions of weather and climate.

Factory, logistics and process automation: SICK is a leading sensor manufacturer and provides sensors and application solutions that create the perfect basis for controlling processes securely and efficiently, protecting individuals from accidents and preventing damage to the environment.
Sensor intelligence – for all requirements
Founded in 1946 by Dr.-Ing. h.c. Erwin Sick, the company, with headquarters in Waldkirch/Germany, ranks among the technological market leaders. With more than 50 subsidiaries and equity investments as well as numerous agencies, SICK maintains a presence all around the globe. In the fiscal year 2018, SICK had about 10,000 employees worldwide and achieved Group sales of just under EUR 1.6 billion.
Process and emissions monitoring
74
Company Profiles 2020.indd 74
SICK’s product range includes over 40,000 sensors for a wide array of applications and therefore offers the right product for any task, thus meeting challenges including those within the shipping industry:
SICK analysis solutions monitor and check emission limit values and the emission of pollutants into the environment. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is gaining importance in driving ship engines. That is why vibration-resistant gas-flow metres are becoming more important for optimal engine control and the fiscal accounting of gas consumption.

Object detection system at and on ships
SICK sensors secure locked access areas on board and visualise the length of stay, movement direction and movement speed of persons and groups and analyse the movement profiles of the public in real time. With SICK 3D LiDAR sensors, reliable man-overboard systems are implemented and help to save lives.
Hazard detection
It’s important to detect hazards in a timely manner. SICK sensors detect vehicles at risk of fire before the journey begins, enabling prompt withdrawal. Hazardous goods signs on trucks are automatically read and classified. Anti-collision systems prevent crashes with fixed and moving objects in the portal crane area.
Loading and unloading
SICK sensors measure the volume of bulk goods on conveyor belts as well as the levels in containers and tanks. There is a suitable solution even for the measurement of the oxygen content of inert gases in bunkers and loading ships with fuels or chemicals.
Service and maintenance
SICK is a one-stop shop for a complete range of services – expert advice, detailed project planning and engineering, installation, commissioning and uncomplicated maintenance and repair.

Thanks to their innovative design, Stauff ACT clamps efficiently prevent the formation of crevice corrosion on stainless steel pipework.
In the course of more than five decades, the Stauff Group has achieved the status of world-leading full-service provider in fluid and hydraulic line components with a focus on fastening systems, connectors and filtration. More than 1,400 employees develop and manufacture a range of more than 40,000 standard components with a consistently high level of quality. The origin of this portfolio is the legendary Stauff Clamp which is available in a variety of types for maritime applications – for shipbuilding and yachting (Adhesive Bonded Fastening), but also as a special anti-corrosion version for the fastening of stainless-steel pipework in offshore equipment (ACT series). Another clamp type especially designed for maritime technologies is a noise-reducing series (NRC) which dampens the noise created by fluid-transporting pipes and tubes and thus contributes to on-board comfort for staff and passengers.
Stauff Connect range of metric tube connectors have been approved by maritime certification organisations (Lloyds Register, Bureau Veritas, DNV). Complementary Stauff product ranges, e.g. for filtration and testing, are also widely used in maritime applications. This is documented by products such as our very compact mobile filtration/ cleaning unit which was developed specifically for use in confined spaces on ships. Typical for Stauff´s market “system supplier” approach is the range of high-level machines for the assembly of connectors – and the “Stauff Line” service offering, which ensures the on-demand delivery of custom-designed and ready-to-install hydraulic lines. The international maritime industry is served by a network of distributors and whollyowned manufacturing facilities, distribution bases and warehouses in 18 countries worldwide.
Apart from the clamps portfolio, Stauff offers a broad range of components and systems for the handling of hydraulic and other fluids, including flanges, hose connectors and quick-release couplings and valves. Important series like the 24° tube connectors and the
