H-E-B is living up to its mantra “Here everything’s better” with the H-E-B mobile app—a great way for customers to shop and save. Launched in 2015, the H-E-B mobile app has allowed customers to effortlessly plan their shopping trips at one of Texas’ favorite supermarkets. By downloading the app, customers can manage shopping lists, product information, H-E-B digital coupons and kitchen-tested recipes. The digital shopping list feature is integrated with a product catalog that allows customers to create a shopping list, check product availability at their store and identify product placement by aisle and shelf. The app automatically organizes shopping lists according to store layout, making shopping preparation stress-free for customers. According to the H-E-B website, Winell Herron, H‑E‑B Group Vice President of Public Affairs and Diversity, praised the app’s digital shopping list feature saying, “Because it automatically locates and organizes items according to store layout, that means no more searching aisles or shelves. This is going to be a real time saver for our customers.” When shopping, patrons can access the app’s recipe database and also take advantage of hundreds of H-E-B coupons available on the app by scanning them at the register. Make your shopping experience easier and much more pleasurable with the H-E-B mobile app! It can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes store and the Google Play store.
THE LEGO MOVIE 2
By Justin Walker
MOVIE REVIEW It’s hard to duplicate the success of an original movie, especially in today’s world where sequels come out before the first film even leaves the theater.
But if production takes its time, another masterpiece can happen. That’s what occurred with the 2019 release of “The Lego Movie 2.” The film’s plot picks up almost immediately following the first, but soon after skips ahead five years to reveal that the happy-go-lucky town of Bricksburg has turned into a wasteland named Apocalypseburg. Emmet, voiced by Chris Pratt, hasn’t changed much from his original appearance, but begins a mission to adapt to the new world and save his friends after Lucy, Batman, Benny, MetalBeard and Unikitty are all kidnapped by alien invaders. “The Lego Movie 2” falls short of the first film in originality and overall storyline, but the warmth and fun still exist. Pratt continues to be the heart and soul of the franchise, taking on multiple roles for the film and even making fun of characters from his other works, such as Jurassic World. While the first “Lego Movie” felt almost real, this script felt a little bit out there. Despite the absurdities that exist within the plot, the jokes are still hilarious, and the experience is just fun. It’s easily one movie you will want to watch again and again, if only to catch all of the jokes you laughed through the first time.
ALBUM REVIEW
By Jasmin Medrano
One of America’s favorite boy bands brings back 90’s nostalgia with the January 25 release of their latest album, “DNA.” Noted as one of the most successful groups in music history and with more than twenty five years having passed, the Backstreet Boys prove that age is just a number. With this new album, they maintain their honey smooth vocals as well as their place among the top music hits on today’s charts. The release features the whole ensemble of five, including Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, A. J. McLean, and Howie Dorough, who feed our throwback pleasures but also give us a taste of their new up-to-date lives. All five now live happily married and with children, and their music is about that very thing. The album focuses on love, family, and a home life that is most meaningful to them, and the name represents the ideas and true message that makes up the group altogether...just like DNA. ARTIST: Backstreet Boys ALBUM: DNA
Playing our heartstrings just right, these guys keep true to their iconic harmonies and lay down strong, funky beats with vibrant overtones and their always impressive frilly vocals. After receiving a 2019 Grammy Award nomination for their main hit, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” the group has shown the world that with time they can only get better! In fact, they are expected to shoot up to the top of the Billboard charts after 18 years since their last no. 1 hit. From boys to men, the Backstreet Boys keep us grounded on the importance of a home life and family because in the end, that is what matters most. It is all about love and loyalty, just like that which they’ve shown fans by giving us more to obsess about. The wait for this album release has been long but well worth it.

MUSIC It will be a big start to the weekend for music in Downtown Bryan as the Grand Stafford Theater hosts multiple performers leading up to First Friday. It all kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 28, as John Marc takes the stage with Mountains Like Wax, Author and Antique Gardens. Marc, a Dallasnative singer-songwriter, headlines the evening. With indie pop vibes mixed in with his performances, Marc manages to write about the truth of life and what is worth singing about. “Making a Move” is a perfect representation of his work, telling the story of young love with that old-school feeling of songs found in movies such as “16 Candles” or “The Breakfast Club.” Joining Marc on stage Thursday evening will be Mountains Like Wax. Described as a cogent blend of Southern post rock, Mountains Like Wax has a relaxing edge to their sound. At times, the group sounds very high tempo, but that is quickly followed by slower moments and accompanied by poignant lyrics, creating a very unique experience for listeners. A great example of this is in the song “Control,” which starts out very upbeat before shifting into a relaxed sound.

Minnesota-based Author will also perform Thursday night. The three-piece indie rock band will feature a similar yet distinguishing sound from the other performers. The band has the traditional indie rock sound while the vocals are more mellow. The creative lyrics for the songs create a dreamlike soundscape and unique atmosphere, which will compliment the venue perfectly. Songs like “Forget” and “Want” show off the group’s abilities vocally while highlighting the engaging sound it produces at live shows. Antique Gardens will be the final group performing for the evening. This indie emo band from Bryan displays an interesting sound that compliments the other performances from the night. Like the others, the instrumental portions of the songs shift from uptempo to mellow, but the lyrics are the highlight of the band. The song “Crack a Smile” makes listeners do just that after the first few words. What initially sounds like a petty, selfish message turns out to be a pretty relatable set of lyrics. Friday, March 1, will take a different direction musically as the Zack Walther Band takes the stage at the Grand Stafford Theater. The New Braunfels-based band will bring their Americana-influenced sound that can both rock an audience and soothe the soul. The band’s sound is very diverse, with a wide variety of uptempo and slower songs, which is also reflective of lead guitarist and vocalist Zack Walther’s voice. Whether the song is deep and soulful or strong and high-pitched, the audience is definitely going to enjoy this show.

REPUBLIC OF TEXAS FESTIVAL AT WOLF PEN CREEK
By Elisabeth Cano
Put on your best pair of boots and come honor the Lone Star state by listening to some good ol’ country jams! Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater happily hosts the Republic of Texas Festival Sunday, March 2 to commemorate Texas’ separation from Mexico way back when in 1836. The festival features several well-known country music artists and a few emerging talents from all over Texas! The event is open to all ages with the gates opening at 4 p.m. and festivities beginning shortly after. Tickets are available online now! What better way to ‘Remember the Alamo’ than to attend a concert recognizing it? The Republic of Texas Festival is an event full of great musicians from all over the state who want to express their love and appreciation for Texas as much as you do! “Part of You” will fall for a newcomer to the country music scene, artist Grant Gilbert. After establishing himself in 2017, Gilbert has emerged as an artist who creates a particular sound that can cross over from cool country to rugged rock. Listen close for Gilbert’s not-yet-released new single, “Denying Desires” during the show. Also taking the stage is a wild cowboy himself, artist John Baumann. Known for his rough-tough vocals, this West Texas man has honored the flatland plains of the Lone Star state since his debut in 2015. With the rocky Southern sound of his songs, they are certain to have you raising your drink and stompin’ your boots right along to the drums.

Oklahoman-native singer songwriter Kaitlin Butts pays tribute to her new home state in her performance at the Republic of Texas Festival. Made popular from her vocal appearances in many Flatland Cavalry songs, this rebellious redheaded has strong vocals that demand attention. Butts will debut her stories of fun-lovin’ times as well as the darker side of jealousy and whiskey drinkin’ through her songs. Laid-back country boy Parker McCollum is among the up and coming rising new artists to perform at the festival. With songs that let listeners in on the struggles of being on the road away from home, “The Limestone Kid” is sure to make you want to grab someone to sway with. Coming to the stage from Waco, Texas, is artist Wade Bowen, debuting his new album, “Solid Ground,” among his other older songs. Bowen is recognized for the scruff sounds associated with his songs that take listeners on adventures to a smoke-filled bar. The boys of West Texas are back to steal the show at the Republic of Texas Festival. Josh Abbott Band comes to headline the event and perform their newest album, “Until My Voice Goes Out,” among many of their other popular songs. The band has been around for years and has produced a Red Dirt country sound that listeners can recognize after only a few chords. Josh Abbott Band will show their admiration for Texas through the smooth, tender sound of the fiddle and Abbott’s stirring vocals.
