And to help with the fitness efforts comes “Fitbod Weight Lifting Workout.” “Fitbod” allows users to customize the workout to their specific needs. Select your fitness experience, your general goals, available equipment and availability to exercise to create the perfect workout plan. While other fitness apps exist in the App Store, this particular app stands out among the rest. The level of customization is beyond what other apps have provided before, and the details in suggested exercises and circuits are unparalleled. If you’ve got the drive to lose those few (or many) pesky pounds you’ve been building up over the winter months but need help with the final push, “Fitbod” might be the perfect answer for you.
SHAZAM!
By Steven Jordan
MOVIE REVIEW In a cinematic world where superhero movies come out seemingly every month, it can be difficult for any particular one to stand out. The films set in DC’s cinematic universe have had it particularly hard; since Christopher Nolan finished his Batman trilogy in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises, many of DC’s movies have been met with lackluster reviews from critics and panned by audiences who criticize the overly dark tone of movies like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Shazam!, released earlier this month on April 5th, turns this trend around. This film is much lighter in tone than many of the more recent DC movies, and it contains a much more engaging and hopeful story. Shazam is the tale of Billy Batson, an orphaned teenage boy recently adopted by a kindly couple, who inherits the power to transform into an adult superhero from an ancient wizard. The acting, both from the many child actors as well as adults, is engaging and believable, despite the extraordinary circumstances of the film. Director David F. Sandberg appears to have taken a page from Marvel Studios’ handbook and injected his film with the humor and heart that separate it from the the large pack of overly similar superhero films. Overall, Shazam! is a funny, and many times moving, superhero movie that is well-worth the price of entry.
ALBUM REVIEW
Releasing their first studio album since 2015, Cage the Elephant made a statement when “Social Cues,” the group’s fifth album, dropped in April.
By Justin Walker
The band has definitely taken a more mainstream approach to their music, featuring radio-friendly hooks and easy going vibes. This is a 180-degree turn from their early work, which rested purely on the carefree and rowdy energy of many novice bands.
ARTIST: Social Cues ALBUM: Cage the Elephant
As is expected with Cage the Elephant, strong songwriting is present in their newest album. The lead single, “Ready To Let Go,” documents the ending of frontman Matt Schultz’s marriage. Despite the depressing direction of the lyrics, the song features an up-tempo and catchy tune, which strangely enough works. “Social Cues” is full of personal moments which are focused into heartfelt pieces of art. While it may differ from previous works from the group, the album is worth a listen and possibly a purchase.

In 2018, Honest Men relocated to Austin and recorded a follow up, self-titled EP that released that May. “Honest Men” showcases the band’s more polished, versatile sound while still featuring that cool Indie rock style. The EP features many singles like “Mad Love,”“Rose” and “I’m Okay” that display the mellow slow sound the band can also create. Honest Men continue to write songs and perform in shows across Texas. With more than 5 million Spotify streams, Vacation Manor is a wellknown band among Indie rock fans. The Nashville-based band features singer and guitarist Nathan Towles, drummer Cole Young, bassist Dane Spearman and Carson Cody on keys. The festival seeks to provide an avenue that not only brings quality short films to the Brazos Valley but builds awareness and appreciation of films and filmmaking, and this year more than 100 visitors are expected at the festival. Each year, filmmakers from around the world submit their independent short films, which are then vetted by a committee. Categories for submission include Narrative Short, Documentary Short and Animated Short. All films must be original and less than 30 minutes. Last year’s festival drew in more than 130 people as filmmakers and screenwriters shared their work with Brazos Valley. “Cuerdas,” a film by Pedro Solis Garcia of Spain, took home Audience Favorite and Best of Festival in 2018. “Guest Room,” an entry by Joshua Tate of California, was chosen as One to Watch.
The Red Wasp Film Festival returns to the historic Queen Theater for the second consecutive year. Originally built in the late 1800s as a hotel, it began showing films in the early 1900s before becoming a fully operational movie theater in 1939. Following a renovation project, the theater reopened on May 4, 2018, just two days before the 2018 Red Wasp Film Festival took place. Admission to the festival is free, but seating is limited. Reservations can be made on the Arts Council website.
The festival was founded in 2003 by Carol and Craig Conlee. The first few festivals took place at the 7F Lodge in Wellborn. By 2006, it had grown enough to feature a partnership with Brazos Progressives, moving the event to Downtown Bryan. In 2014, the Arts Council of Brazos Valley took over management, bringing in another new era for the festival.

LESLIE ODOM JR. On April 28, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra will end their 37th season with a bang by performing with multi talented superstar Leslie Odom Jr. The 37 year old singer and actor is probably best known for originating the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway smash hit Hamilton, a performance that not only won him the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2015 but also afforded him the opportunity to perform for former President Obama in the White House.

This artist will bring us to new heights in many ways, challenging our musicians musically, stretching the creativity of our organization, and elevating the level of our orchestra and the arts in our community.” The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra has been a mainstay in the Bryan/College Station area since as far back as 1981. It started out then as a small, volunteer organization committed to high musical standards but has grown in size. Since then, the BVSO has become a per service orchestra and is now managed by a board of directors.
His talents move beyond the realm of theatre, however. He has also released albums that have charted #1 on Billboard Jazz, starred in blockbuster films like Murder on the Orient Express, and had numerous roles on television shows like Gotham and Grey’s Anatomy.
The performance begins at 5:00 p.m. in Rudder Auditorium on Texas A&M’s campus, and the tickets, which can be purchased through the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra’s website, are going fast!
