(muggle or no-maj) sidekick that you can’t help but fall in love with. Harry Potter fans and newcomers to Rowling’s world will love Yates’ creation. The movie had everything from humor, to sadness, to overwhelming joy. The creatures in the film were unique and adorable. The plot follows Newt into New Your where he has a job to do (we won’t spoil it). His suitcase is a little flimsy though and some of his creators get loose in the great city of New York. Fans get to see how America fairs in the wizarding world for the first time, as Newt runs into wizard law enforcement for bringing a suitcase full of magical creatures into the country. We were a little nervous for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” at first because sequels so often fall the hardest, but not this time. The movie truly lives up to Harry Potter’s legacy. Premiering only a couple of months after the release of the “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” Potter fans have been able to cushion the blow of a world without upcoming Harry Potter movies. Fantastic Beasts will fill the void of any Potter fan. It is a must-see!

any bands have attempted to make comebacks in the music industry this year, quite a few of which have been very well received. On November 18, one of the mothers of heavy metal, Metallica, released its tenth studio album. The double album, “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct,” is the band’s first album since “Death Magnetic” in 2008. It follows the group’s heavy metal and rock theme. The supposed “break” for the band allowed them to put exceptional effort with the album. According to the “Los Angeles Times” website, Metallica’s 2008 album, as well as this one, helped to repair the group’s damaged reputation from the early 2000’s. This album is aimed at more of a nostalgic theme with a contemporary twist that is prevalent in the lyrics and rock acoustics. “Hardwired…to Self-Destruct” makes it clear that age really is just a number. Metallica’s comeback is set to be loved by fans of all ages with a classic yet fresh feel.

BAYOU VS BRAZOS

s the Aggies’ fifth SEC football season comes to a close, the LSU Tigers will make the trip to Kyle Field on Thanksgiving Day. LSU, Louisiana State University, is the only team the Aggies have yet to come out as the victors against since joining the SEC prior to the 2012 season.

On October 20, 2012, LSU handed Johnny Manziel and the Aggies their second loss of the season, one they would finish 10-2 with a huge win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The LSU defense forced five turnovers, three of which were interceptions thrown by Manziel, and won the game 24-19, despite the Aggies leading 12-0 at one point in the game. On November 23, 2013, the game between the two foes was nowhere near as close. LSU came out the victors once again in a 34-10 rout of the then ranked number 12 Aggies. Manziel called the game a punch in the face. He was intercepted twice as well as being sacked. This game ended the Aggies’ road win streak at 10 games. On November 27, 2014 came the game every Aggie will remember for the rest of their lives. It can be described in three easy words; LSU was offsides. Leonard Fournette ran for a then career-high 146 yards, effectively running over an already weak Texas A&M defense. The game ended on an interception by LSU’s Jalen Collins with 1 minute and 21 seconds left on the clock. Many Aggies would tell you that the interception should

have been negated due to the fact that an LSU defensive linemen, Sione Teuheme, moved toward the Aggie offensive line in an infraction of the neutral zone.

by Danielle Anthony

In an extremely emotional season closer on November 28, 2015, the Tigers once again came out the victors in a game that effectively saved LSU head coach Les Miles’ job, at least for the moment. Although the Aggies held a one point lead going into the half, they would come out the losers at 19-7 watching the Tigers hoist Les Miles onto their shoulders and walk off the field victors once again. For the last time on Thanksgiving Day, the Aggies will face off against LSU on Thursday 24 at 6:30pm, looking for their first win since joining the SEC over the Tigers in purple and gold. While our season hasn’t shaped up the way we hoped it would, let’s rally around our team for the last home game of the 2016 season.

f you’re like us, you’ll agree that the Thanksgiving holiday came around very quickly this year, and making plans to cook a meal on game day is not the ideal situation. “Thankfully” if you’re staying in Aggieland this week, there are multiple restaurants around town that will have you covered on Thanksgiving Day with turkey and all of the fixings. If you are willing to step outside of your college student budget – or your parents are in town – then we recommend making reservations at Messina Hof with The Vintage House Restaurant. The restaurant hours are 11:00am until 6:00pm, which is perfect timing to have lunch and then proceed towards the tailgates before the Texas A&M-LSU kickoff at 6:30pm. The Messina Hof menu will offer three options for each course including a salad, entrée and dessert. If Messina Hof isn’t in the cards for your Thanksgiving plans, look out for their Cooking Parties where you can learn some useful techniques in the kitchen. If you want to have a Friendsgiving but lack the cooking skills and the time, then support a local business and let Café Eccell do the work for you. They are offering a meal, for pick-up only, that would serve 10-12 people for just over $16 per person. Their menu features a mouth-watering citrus and sage rubbed whole turkey, honey banana sweet potato mash, and a choice between pumpkin or chocolate pg 10 • MAROON WEEKLY • Nov. 23, 2016 • maroonweekly.com

pecan pies. The menu goes much deeper than that and you can check it out on cafeeccellbryantx.com or give them a call at 979-599-7929. A traditional option is Cracker Barrel, with an offering of three ways to have their delicious Thanksgiving menu. If you are looking to pick it up ahead of time, then the Heat N’ Serve Holiday Family Meal To-Go is for you. It serves up to 10 people and can be easily stored in your home refrigerator until it’s time to eat, which is a good plan if you are busy all day at a tailgate for Aggie football and want to have the meal after the game. In just two hours your meal would be on the table,

but make sure to order in advance. If you are serving a smaller group and want everything hot and ready to serve, then the Homestyle Turkey n’ Dressing Family Meal To-Go is for you. This serves up to six people and can be ordered through November 27th just in case you have to celebrate a few days later. Cracker Barrel is also offering a way for you to skip the cooking and the clean-up with an in-store meal on Thanksgiving Day. They will be open from 11am until 10pm serving all three courses and a large selection of pies.

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS IN BCS W

e realize that going home for Thanksgiving only to come right back for finals can feel like a hassle, especially if the trek home is a long one. So if you’re thinking about sticking around town for Thanksgiving, here are a few options to make it feel like home. FRIENDSGIVING The practice that has been quite popular in the past few years in various college towns. It is a way for friends to get together as a family at a house or apartment with potluck dinner and fall festivities. The most efficient way to go about planning this is through a Facebook event, inviting 10 or less of your close friends. The next step would be to browse Pinterest for décor and menu ideas so attendees can choose who wants to bring appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. Bring your friends together for a festive night

of fall-scented candles, pumpkin-flavored cocktails and turkey on a college student’s budget.

TEXAS A&M VS. LSU As the holiday season begins, football season ends. However, turkey is not the only thing that will be roasted this Thanksgiving. The Aggies hope to defeat the LSU Tigers the evening of November 24 at Kyle Field. And as usual, every home game follows an afternoon of tailgating, which will undoubtedly be more festive for the last SEC game of the season and falling on Thanksgiving. BCS TURKEY TROT Join the Brazos Valley community for the 7th Baylor Scott and White family fun run on Thanksgiving morning. The morning will constitute of a 5k

race through the Firefox neighborhood in College Station and a one-mile family fun run. Registration for adults, students, and children is available on bcsturkeytrot.com with more information about location, t-shirts and awards. All proceeds from the race benefit Mercy Project, a non-profit organization working toward ending child slavery in Ghana. MESSINA HOF WINERY TOURS: every wine enthusiast knows that some great grapes are part of any holiday season. Messina Hof Winery in Bryan offers tours for those who enjoy quality red and white wine for Thanksgiving in a social yet classy environment. The winery tours host attendees through the resort and vineyard by one of the winery’s hosts, and their culinary team also prepares delicacies paired with the drinks. Enjoy Thanksgiving with the Vintage House Restaurant with an exotic menu and delectable wine choices. Hours are from 11am to 6pm and more information can be found on messinahof.com.

AGGIE RINGS: LOST & FOUND

ing Day is one of the most memorable days of an Aggies life, perhaps even more so than graduation: the beautiful, sparkling, materialized spirit of Aggieland compacted into one little ring. Sometimes, however, we lose things. When an Aggie loses their Aggie ring, it can be absolutely heart breaking. Luckily, some Ags have amazing stories of rings they’ve lost, cried over, and then found! Here are a few:

months later. A few weeks after that, I received a text that said, “Hey there! Someone sold me an Aggie ring and I was sure it was stolen. Don’t worry I am not looking for money, I am an Aggie! “ The man ended up giving me my ring, which he bought for $350 dollars off of someone, free of charge. After that I knew it would be wrong to sell my replacement ring so I found an Aggie who could not afford a ring and donated it to her. “

KATELYN: “My roommate’s boyfriend lost his ring playing softball and a homeless man found it. Months later, another Aggie saw the homeless man wearing the ring and offered to pay him for it. The Aggie then typed the name on the back of the ring into Facebook and messaged my roommate’s boyfriend! It was incredible!”

DANIEL: “My friend lost hers in Lake Travis and a diver just so happened to find it.”

WILL: “I was going swimming in a muddy pond when I felt my ring fall off. I searched for hours and decided I would never find it. A month later, when I finally told my mom, she went out and bought a metal detector. Sure enough, four weeks later, she found it buried in the very bottom. She had to dive down a couple of times to get it.” HAILEY: “I am amazed by the selfless love that was shown to me by a fellow Aggie. In September, I received my Aggie ring. Fast-forward to 3 weeks later, I was on campus furiously trying to finish a paper that was due that day. I was in Evans and went to the bathroom and while I was washing my hands I could tell something was missing. I went to the front desk and then back to the bathroom and back to the front frantically. I finally gave up, deciding my ring was gone. I ordered a new ring using my own savings and it came in a few

STACEY: “My sister’s boyfriend dropped his in the lake and literally searched for hours. He even bought a $60 light for lake water and it was nowhere to be found. My dad finally found it 5 hours after diving around the lake for it right next to the ladder. The best part was that this was also the first time my sister’s boyfriend met my parents.” CHANNING: “I lost my ring while walking down sorority row in the rain. It was a little too big and the rain made it much worse. I felt it fly off my finger and I searched for hours in the pouring rain and pitch black and never found it. I also had friends go for hours the next day without any luck. After over ten people had gone to look for it, I was about to give up. Three weeks later, my mom came in town to visit me and decided to go back to the spot where I lost it with a metal detector. She found it buried under some mud. I was amazed!” So if you lose your ring, don’t lose hope. You never know where it might turn up!

ggieland War Games in Bryan is home to tactical laser tag played inside a large arena, which is unlike anything else in the Brazos Valley. They host open play times as well as group events and parties for people who want to take their laser tag to the next level. Tactical laser tag has been compared to first-person video games such as Call of Duty. When playing, teams are given missions, and the goal is to accomplish said missions while also preventing the other team from accomplishing theirs. During one hour of play, a group will be assigned 6 to 8 individual missions to complete, which are assigned to groups based on size and capability.

5pm-10pm, Saturday from 11am-10pm, and Sunday from 12pm-6pm. Prices for open play increase based on how long participants want to play; $8.99 for 30 minutes, $16.99 for an hour, $22.99 for 90 minutes and $27.99 for two hours. Students get a 10% discount on their ticket with valid student ID presented at time of purchase. Players will enter the arena at either half past or on the hour. There is a 10 minute safety briefing that must occur before entering the arena, so participants should show up 20 minutes before they want to play to maximize the experience.

PARKING ALLOWED: A GUIDE TO AGGIELAND GREEN SPACE

The arena is completely indoors and air-conditioned, styled to look like a post-apocalyptic industrial cityscape. Players must be at least nine years of age and be wearing close-toed shoes to participate. It is encouraged that participants wear loose fitting, cool athletic clothing as this is a very active game and players will want to be comfortable.

Aggieland War Games offers open play times over the weekend: Friday from

ould you escape a locked room that seems to have no way out? In recent years, businesses that test your ability to stay calm, solve puzzles, and escape have exploded in popularity. There is no doubt the concept of these businesses is frighteningly similar to the series of “Saw” movies many of us have binged on before, but trust us when we say that escape room games are fun, exciting, and a great way to test your limits. Three escape room establishments have opened in the Bryan and College Station area in the last year and we have all the details. PADLOCK ESCAPE GAMES: Padlock Escape Games is located on Texas Ave. right next to Tutor John and is owned and operated by Aggies. This was the first escape game to open in College Station and there are three unique rooms to challenge even the best escape artists. The themes of the rooms make the experience exciting and realistic and include Secret Study, Masquerade, and Kidnapped! Padlock provides an hour long experience for you to beat the clock and escape before time runs out, but get there early for instructions so you have the full hour to solve puzzles and unlock the door. Padlock is open Thursday-Sunday and you must make a reservation on their website. A reservation Monday-Wednesday is available upon request. T-shirts are available for all participants, but there are specific t-shirts only available to winners as well. ESCAPE ROOM BCS:

You can choose to be locked in a room with the goal of escaping, but there are also games focused on solving a mystery. Escape room themes here include The Facility,

Classified, Breakout, and Tomb. The Tomb is said to be the most difficult room, but all of these rooms are sure to put you and your friends to the test. THE ROOMS OF BCS: The Rooms of BCS is a family business that caters to all-ages. While most other escape rooms are too frightening for children, the place has options that children will love as well as more difficult and more horror-filled experiences as well. The game is timed at one hour and is a race against the clock. The Rooms of BCS is located in Bryan on E. 29th St. near Bryan High School. Reservations are a great way to solidify your spot in line. They are open Wednesday-Sunday and times depend on the day. Reservations can be made for Mondays and Tuesdays upon special request.
