THE VOICE by Justin Walker
APP REVIEW
FREE
“The Voice” is one of the hottest shows on television, as it is fourteen seasons strong with no signs of slowing down in the near future. And why would it? With fans tuning in each week to see the likes of Adam Levine and Blake Shelton every season, Alicia Keys returning for another round and Kelly Clarkson making her coaching debut, the singing competition has all the makings to be a weekly fixture on televisions across the country. Now there’s a way to follow your favorite contestants and build your own team of singers. “The Voice Official App on NBC,” which launched an update just before the season debut, gives viewers even more access to the coaches and contestants, allowing you to tweet out to Blake, Adam and the gang, vote on performances and save your favorites so you can remember them week-to-week. One feature simulates the coaches chair, letting you press your button during the blind auditions, pick battle and knockout winners, and build your own team to compete against other viewers. It’s almost like fantasy football for “The Voice.” If you are a fan of the show, we highly recommend this app. It makes being a viewer so much easier, allows you to keep track of your favorite artists and elevates the overall experience.
THE BLACK PANTHER MOVIE REVIEW
Another member of the Marvel cinematic universe has made it to the big screen. “Black Panther” marks a notable shift away from the formulaic plots of recent superhero movies, while providing a much-needed dose of diversity. The film features Chadwick Boseman as Prince T’challa, otherwise known as the Black Panther, and picks up where “Captain America: Civil War” ended. After the death of his father, T’challa must take the throne in the fictional country of Wakanda. The country is technologically advanced and rich due to a precious metal known as Vibranium, however, they hide their opulence from the world. The film raises questions regarding economic disparities, the role of a country in the world, and moral obligation, while still delivering the compelling humor and action to be expected in a Marvel film. Overall, it is a more significant and deep plot than many of the recent humorous Marvel movies such as “Ant-Man” or “Thor: Ragnarok.” Along with Boseman, the cast features stars like Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira, with each of their characters having time to shine. Jordan breathed an element of humanity and pain

ALBUM REVIEW “Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It” is the fifth studio album from the British Experimental Rock band Rolo Tomassi. In 2005, Rolo Tomassi began their journey, and the band has been pushing musical boundaries since then. They combine clean and unclean vocals, and their mixture of sounds and styles makes it difficult to categorize their music into one sub-genre.
ARTIST: Rolo Tomassi ALBUM: Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It RELEASED: March 2, 2018
Rolo Tomassi experiments with rock, synth pop and hardcore punk sounds, while finding the middle ground between beauty and chaos. That middle ground is what makes them truly different from any other band currently in the scene. The album kicks off with an unusually long instrumental track that seamlessly leads into the rest of the album. The album is soft and calming at the beginning. It

in the antagonistic character Killmonger, making him more multi-dimensional and harder to writeoff. Gurira’s female army showcased breathtaking fight scenes, while Nyong’o represented a strong woman hell-bent on helping others around the world. The world of Wakanda spoke to the production quality and design. The costume design is representative of East Africa, and the colors are vibrant. Rather than being completely built out of CGI like many of the settings in “Thor: Ragnarok,” Wakanda is part reality and part science fiction blended effortlessly together. “Black Panther” currently has a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.9 rating on IMDB. The ratings are certain to climb, as the film is now the 20th highest-grossing film in U.S. history. The narrative of “Black Panther” is not predictable, the humor is fresh, the post-production is aweinspiring, and it is a breath of refreshing air in terms of representation and diversity. It is one of the biggest blockbusters of this year, and it is absolutely worth buying your tickets as soon as possible.
does not hit hard until the third track, which is mostly unclean vocals. They blend chaotic screams with beautiful clean vocals and instrumentation throughout the rest of the album. Each song soars, but three of them are over seven minutes long and still able to engage listeners all the way through by rising and falling in a pleasing but unexpected fashion. “Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It” is a nearly perfect album for this band. Critics are surprised Rolo Tomassi has stayed around this long, but many have claimed this could be a career high for the band. Rolo Tomassi’s discography is full of rock albums that appeal to the masses in terms of rock music due their range and varying styles. Every rock fan may not enjoy entire albums from this band, but we are willing to bet there’s something here anyone can fall in love with.

ROOMmates
Living with a roommate can be a source of worry and anxiety for college students. When people from different backgrounds and upbringings come together and spend a substantial amount of time together, each is accustomed to their own way of living, and friction can arise as a result. Sharing a small, new space with a random human can be intimidating. On the flipside, rooming with one of your closest friends could potentially cause tension to brew. Whatever the situation may be, being a good roommate is key to a successful semester in any home.
Set Boundaries Setting boundaries is the first step in being a good roommate. Establishing the rules will lay the foundation for a smooth sailing living experience. Sit down with your roommate(s) and talk about your expectations for the semester. Exchange school and work schedules so you know their general whereabouts in case of emergencies. Additionally, figure out household logistics: divide up the refrigerator shelves, cabinet space, and any other community area in the apartment. Drawing these literal lines will aid in having some sort of structure. This is the time express any specific questions or suggestions you have.
Respect Each Other Maintaining mutual respect will make home life so easy. In an ideal world, you and your roommate(s) will become best friends, but that is not always the case. A good roommate respects their living partners’ room, dishes, food, supplies, car, etc. This especially important if you expect the same kind of treatment. Respect is also applied when using community appliances like the refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, and washer and dryer. Remember everyone, including you, is entitled to using each of these at whatever time they choose. Being a good roommate means cleaning up after yourself when you use any of these appliances. Leaving a dirty kitchen or living room helps no one and will only create conflict. Communicate Communication is vital in living with another person. Although setting boundaries starts everyone on the same page, problems can and will arise. When they do, it is crucial that you are well equipped with the appropriate way to address the issue. No matter how sticky the situation, keep in mind how you handle it will affect your home life well after it is resolved. To avoid making living together awkward, be honest with your roommate(s), but maintain respect. Let them know how a certain action of theirs makes you feel and work together to make the living environment better for each of you.

If you are looking for a new apartment to live in next year, finding a roommate to live with is half the battle. If you don’t already have a someone in mind, utilizing apartment roommate profiles can aid the worrisome process. Most apartment complexes have whipped up a system of roommate matching. match you with someone who either enjoys the same schedule or is content in living with someone who does. You can include any organizations you participate in and hobbies and interests you enjoy on your own time. Important questions in a roommate profile will ask you pertains to smoking and living with pets. Be honest if you do smoke or cannot stand to live with someone who does. Additionally, keep in mind the word “pets” can mean any type of animal from dogs and cats to mice and snakes. Though these apartment complexes have good intentions in making their tenants happy, they are not a matchmaking company. Your roommates may or may not become your best friends or even match half of the recommendations you made. These questionnaires not only help to identify who you are a tenant, but will allow the apartment complex to match you with like-minded individuals who share your similar interests in hopes for a comfortable living situation.

SXSW RUNDOWN Alright you music lovers and broke college kids who can’t afford to party it up in Cancun. This article is for you all. The adventurers and voyagers, so to speak. Do I have a fun Texas Spring Break adventure for ya! Head down to the capital city, weird ol’ Austin Texas for a week unlike any other. The Annual South by Southwest interactive film, conference and music festival will be back again this March 9 to 18. This conference is known for celebrating the convergence of the film, music and production industries. This is an iconic global event that takes place every March, during the town’s wild spring break session. Diversity at its finest, this festival is known for not sticking to a specific genre. The stylistic and music focus is unique and colorful, much like the rad people that live in the area. In 2017, the festival featured over 2000 performers, coming from over 63 different countries around the world. This 2018 festival season is guaranteed to rival the previous year’s numbers, as over a thousand acts have already been announced. Big name artists such as Khalid, DMC and Cold War Kids have already been announced, along with many others. And that’s not even taking into account all of the secret, pop-up and surprise shows!
To try and start getting an idea of what you want to go do, and who all you want to see, there is an extensive SXSW Schedule that is available for viewing on SXSW.com. However, if you already know that you are for sure attending the event (whether that be with a badge or a Guest Pass) I would highly suggest getting the SXSW app. It’s super handy. There are a multitude of differing badges and passes that an attendee can obtain, which will allow them exclusive access to events of their choosing. SXSW Music and Platinum Badge holders have primary access to venues, allowing musicians and talented industry attendees great opportunities to meet and intermingle. Film and Interactive Badges will have secondary access to the venues, and for all you money-saving

SXSW Simple Sally’s (like myself) - that’s where the free Guest Pass comes in! Obtaining a Guest Pass for SXSW is completely free of charge, with no hassle. All you have to do is sign up. When obtaining one of these passes you are then put on a first come first serve basis with all the venues, aka there will be a lot of lines and you will only get in once the primary and secondary passholders get their pick. But don’t fret, this just means a lot of day time gigs, yay! Guest Pass holders are still a really cheap and cool way to still experience the adventure of SXSW, just without spending an arm and a leg. Ballin’ on a budget. In order to ensure you have an enjoyable SXSW experience, you have to plan, prepare and prosper. Make a plan! The likelihood of you religiously abiding by it is doubtful, but it’s always best to be over-prepared than under. The cool thing about getting a Guest Pass is that you can still get into a lot of daytime parties and concerts. The key is just RSVPS’ing online to said events. RSVP to them all if you want, better to have too many options than none. To find venues search EventBrite, Twitter and honestly just Google it. There are an overwhelmingly amount of cool things going on. Make sure to stock up on the essentials! Nourish your body, and pack yourself some protein bars, refillable water bottle, sunscreen and some extra cash. It’s going to be hot, crowded and loud, so make sure to stay hydrated and full of energy. Delicious food trucks will also be available. Just about every couple of
blocks down, there will be food trucks posted up that will offer a large variety of five-star quality dishes. Austin is known for some of the best food trucks out there (true fact). Doing SXSW without a badge has never been so easy. So get ready for the day parties and set your alarm clocks early, it’s time to rumble! And just remember to live in the moment, the sets are short and days even shorter. Just enjoy it.

FARM TOURS IN THE BRAZOS VALLEY
BY Justin Walker
Agriculture. It is the foundation of every successful country. From large-scale operations designed to produce food and fiber for national and global use to local, family-owned farms that focus on their home and surrounding community, the agricultural industry is an important aspect to our society.
However, for a majority of American citizens, the process of food production and daily life on the farm is a distant and sometimes confusing idea. Many people are three generations removed from agriculture, with more and more people leaving their rural roots for the hustle and bustle of urban life. This has caused a disconnect between the average consumer and the all-American producer. Texas Agrability, a program within the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is teaming up with local agriculturalists to help narrow the gap between consumers and local agriculture with a series of farm tours and workshops. Citizens of the Brazos Valley will have the opportunity to tour their farm at Millican Reserve, which produces seasonal crops and eggs. The items produced at the farm are sold locally at farmers markets and through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share. This is a great opportunity for consumers who
purchase locally-grown products see Lewis exactly where their food comes from by to Tyler and the process it goes through to get to their table. A workshop will be held on the Texas A&M University campus in conjunction with the farm tour. There, Texas Agrability will host several sessions with topics including rural business ideas, an introduction to business planning, possibilities for farming and ranching with a disability, a discussion on marketing resources, financial funding sources for farming and ranching, and identifying resources to support agricultural business operations. The is no cost for either event, but interested parties need to register at https:// tamucehd.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3JEcpKlliZTc0lv. You have the option of attending either the farm tour, the workshop or both. The farm tour takes place on Friday, March 9, at Millican Reserve, beginning at 4 p.m. The tour is expected to last three hours and will included food and networking opportunities. The workshop will take place the following day on Saturday, March 10, in the Agriculture & Life Sciences (AGLS) Building at Texas A&M. It begins at 8 a.m. and is expected to last until 5 p.m. that evening.

TV SHOW REVIEW: ALTERED CARBON NETFLIX

VEAUX D’VINE CUISINE
Musical talent from Nashville is making its way to Downtown Bryan this month. New and upcoming band VEAUX is traveling to cities all over the country, and that includes BCS. VEAUX is a brand new alternative rock/pop rock band native to Nashville, Tennessee. Brothers Aaron and Dominick Wagner, along with their long-time friend Andrew Black, made music together for years before officially forming their band early this year. VEAUX formed late at night, in a hotel bar, as these close friends decided to take their hobby to the next level and show the world who they are through their music. They immediately began writing and recording music, and their first studio single, “Wander,” was released on February 16th. They have been in the studio, hard at work, writing and recording to prepare for shows all over the country. Not only was the creation of this band unique, they also show innovation and authenticity in their sound and songwriting. The goal of “Wander” was to mix 80’s radio hits with the sounds of indie rock and modern pop music. The unique combination of sounds goes along with lyrics that link the band’s past together with their creativity and pioneering spirit. According to the band’s Facebook page, they’re looking toward the future. “When we look back on our lives as old men, I want to be able to say that we were true to ourselves,” Andrew Black said. “We spent years being paralyzed by fear and perfectionism, and we are finally in a place as a band and as a family to create honest art and let the chips fall where they may.” D’Vine Cuisine Event Space, located in Downtown Bryan, provides quality catering and hosting to the Brazos Valley. Any business or event, whether it is casual, formal, intimate or extravagant is welcomed with open arms and receives unparalleled attention to detail. Billy and Kantessa Castillo, owners of D’Vine Cuisine, hope to create a lasting experience for all who attend an event at their establishment. D’Vine Cuisine is just as fit for a concert, like this one, as it is for a business dinner or private party. VEAUX will perform with a surprise special guest on Friday, March 9th, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. It is a concert for all ages, so bring the family for a night out with this Nashville pop rock band for only $10 a person.

The ability to live forever. Some people would kill for that. “Altered Carbon,” a new Netflix original series, takes place in the future, where humanity has discovered a way to transport one’s conscious into another body, or “sleeve,” if the original body has died. As one can imagine, this practice is extremely controversial, and is only available to those of the futuristic 1%, the Methuselahs or Meths for short. The show follows Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), a former member of an elite military force who wakes up 250 years after his previous sleeve is killed. His new sleeve is that of a former cop. In this new sleeve in a new time, Kovacs is offered an opportunity to help solve a mysterious murder of a prominent Meth. Thus begins an interesting roller coaster ride of futuristic proportions. While the plot seems rather complex and strange, the show is still immensely entertaining. It is obvious that production spent quite a bit of money on CGI, and the show benefits from that. Kinnaman delivers a solid performance and helps captivate the audience through any slow or confusing portions of the show. Netflix is known for delivering quality entertainment in the form of dramas, with successful shows such as “House of Cards” and “Stranger Things.” “Altered Carbon” plays off the science-fiction aspect that helped propel “Stranger Things” into the limelight, just without the nostalgia of the 1980s. Instead, it delivers a possibility of what society could be like in the future, with advanced technology and the ethical dilemmas it sometimes presents. “Altered Carbon” is a must see.

The Republican Party of Brazos County will be welcoming Texas Governor Greg Abbott as the keynote speaker at this years’ GOP Reagan Day Dinner. Staying informed about the people representing you is important to ensure your power as an American voter. Attending local events, such as this one, are a great way to engage in your government right from your backyard. President Ronald Reagan once said “Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.” Each year, county Republican Parties across Texas honor the 40th President of the United States at the GOP Reagan Day Dinner/ Fundraiser. The keynote speaker at the event changes each year, and the Republican Party of Brazos County is proud to have our Texas Governor as the guest of honor this year. Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, is currently campaigning for re-election for his second term in office. Following his first term, Abbott is known for his conservative views and his passion for preserving values of faith, family and freedom. Prior to his election in 2104, Abbott served as the longest-serving Attorney General of Texas, a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court and as a State District Judge in Harris County. As Attorney General, he defended religious liberty and worked to protect Texas communities and children. During his first term as Texas Governor, Abbott worked on legislation banning sanctuary cities, reforming the child protective system, supporting early and higher education and limiting regulations on businesses. Located just minutes from northwest Houston and Texas A&M in Waller County, Bluebonnet Hills Alpaca Ranch is owned by Laurence and Donna Binder. With the goal of developing a colorful herd, Bluebonnet Hills’ first five animals were purchased in September 1997. Now, 20 years later, they have helped many of the Texas alpaca ranchers establish their ranch and begin their own alpaca ranching business. According to www.travelingvineyard.com, wine consumption trends show that women typically choose wine as their alcoholic drink of choice, with about 46% naming wine as their top choice. In comparison, 55% of men favor beer. Well, at Peach Creek Vineyards in College Station, both men and women can get their wine on with family, friends and...alpacas?
As retired educators, the Binders believe that they have a unique way of assisting new breeders. Your success is their success, and they are proud of the many successful ranchers they have helped get started. Bluebonnet Hills invites both new and established breeders into their community. Call for an appointment or to visit the Binders and their colorful, huggable herd of sixty five alpacas in the Navasota rolling, tree-shaded hills .
Peach Creek Vineyards has teamed up with Bluebonnet Hills Alpaca Ranch to provide the general public with the chance of a lifetime. HOLIDAY
St. paddy’s day in aggieland by Madison Caldwell
Kiss me I’m Irish and pinch me till I’m pink, as Saturday March 17 is guaranteed to be a lovely day here in College Station, Texas. St Patrick’s Day weekend in Aggieland: it’s gonna be wild, it’s gonna be fun and it’s most definitely gonna be extremely green. This day is known for being celebrated nationwide with colorful parades, festivals and functions featuring fun Irish brew, cuisine and music. Now alright Ags, it’s time to put up the maroon and don that ghastly bright color once again. St Patrick’s Day is the one day a year where everyone pretends to be Irish, even though (according to the U.S. Census Bureau) less than 15 percent of Brazos Valley residents actually claim Irish decent. Grab some corned beef and cabbage and help to celebrate this cultural and religious holiday, which is held on the anniversary and death of the patron saint of Ireland. Originally born Maewyn Succat, he later changed his name to Patricius, a word deriving from the Latin term father figure. He came to Christianity and priesthood through some unorthodox experiences (such as being captured and enslaved by different pirates from different regions). However, it wasn’t until the Irish rebellion in 1798 that the color green officially became associated with this event. The Irish sang a song, “The Wearing of The Green” during the rebellion, proudly displaying the color. Thus the color green has forever been important and relevant throughout Irish history.
Luckily, the holiday falls into Texas A&M’s weeklong Spring Break. The whole city will still be partying it up in style, with students or without. Now, there are a multitude of events to go and check out this eventful weekend. For my drinkers out there, the beer connoisseurs so to speak, there are a couple different spots that I would recommend checking out. Bar wise, I would say O’Bannon’s takes the cake, as this traditional Irish pub goes all out for their most beloved holiday. Known for throwing a fun multi-day festival, this establishment will be packed with kegs on kegs of green beer. A little way down the Northgate District, Carney’s Pub on College Station Ave will also be a lit and live place, as they too will have green beer and Irish munchies. Murphy’s Law in Downtown Bryan will also be stocked with traditional Irish Beers and Liquors, as they host their annual St Paddy’s Day Party. However, the fun doesn’t end there. For those folks who are looking to get a little less rowdy, Cook ‘n Grow is hosting a Let’s Get Green for St Patrick’s Day class, where little ones can have the opportunity of learning their way around the kitchen, the green way! Even Painting with a Twist is offering a spirited St Patrick’s Day Shamrock Painting Art for all ages on the 17. Let your creative side come out if you’d rather spare your liver this year! As one can see, there are many different options to choose from when trying to plan a fun St Paddy’s Day!
