FORT ANCIENT VALLEY CHAMPIONS
The 1974 Spartans ended the season with a fine 12-6 record. The team hit its best form near the end of the schedule and concluded with three "must" wins in league encounters with Little Miami, Mason, and Kings Mi lis. These clutch performances earned the team a share of the league title--the Spartan's best showing in F. A. V. C. history. District #15 COACH OF THE YEAR, Dave Liffick's animated enthusiasm set the tenor for the year, and the spirited play of the team equaled his example,

Coach Barton's tennis team completed the school's best athletic record this year with a brilliant 15-1 record. The squad swept to the F.A.V.C. championship without losing a match--all three singles players; Dale Bow man, Harry Crabtree, and Jeff Richards; were undefeated. Harry completed his high school career with only one loss. Dale, the first singles, advanced from the Sectional to the District before bowing out.

The upset of highly regarded New Miami in the first round of the sectional tournament highlighted the 1974 version of Spartan baseball. Early season wins over Valley View, Lebanon, and East Clinton were signs of good things to come, and by mid-season the Spartans had surpassed the total wins for 1973. Four one run losses, however, kept Coach Emsuer's team from moving well above the .500 level. Tim Shoup shouldered much of the pitching responsibility, with hitting help coming from Steve Hofacker, Chris Plummer, and Ted Borg erdi ng .

SPARTANS FINISH FOURTH IN F.A.V.C. MEET Since the construction of Waynesville's new track facility, there has been a marked interest in track and field. The top performers on the squad in 1974 were upperclassmen, led by Greg Scott, Dave Blair, Bart Heath, and Jeff Ison. There were, however, some impressive performances turned in by freshmen, such as Dave Hendrickson, who excelled in the two mile run, and Matt Engel, a good 880 runner. Coach Gerard commented, "I feel that even though we are the smallest school and team in the I eague, our track boys and girls are far from last."
Steve Stan ley finished third in the F.A.V.C. league meet.

THE PUNCH WASN'T SPIKED Or was it? A quaff or two from that wondrous elixir and we were transported into the midst of Senior Prom night. This prom was even more memorable. First of all it was OURS; secondly, we had OUR music. Though the teachers might have thought it too loud, an amiable truce prevailed 'til the witching hour.
