It ~a a big fall eason. Many came back to the new school year with great anticipation. The new, tougher rule made for a rapid disappearance of P.O. . ' This year, a usual, Sp1rit Week started off with hat day & the lave Auction. While wearing zany hat , the r herded the Fro h. to the "Block". They earned nearly one million S's for the Sr cia & plotted revenge against the Fro h lave day came & the halls were littered with the sounds & ight of alien, unu ual, & embarrassed Frosh. The following day wa the legendary Powderpuff game. Though they put up a gallant fight, the JrSoph team wa defeated by the uperior r-Frosh. team. Better luck next year Jr - oph. The pirit games enjoyed by all, were almo t rna ked over by the hall decorating. The Sr " pased" out & broke records all over their hall along with the1r subliminal graffiti spray-painted on the wall. The Jr. really "kicked" up when they

found the Sr had won. The Soph. a! o had well decorated hall, & the Fro h., well let the name peak for it elf. Jim Deters & Angie Liffick were the Homecoming King & Queen. The football team put up a good fight, but they were defeated much to everyone regret. The week ended with the pectacular dance at the school w1th a D.J . from, nowhere el e, but WTUE. They cranked out the tunes for everyone to jive to. Thu ended the 83-84 Spint Week with a bang!

"Superior Rattng ... Waynesville High chool!" The band did a wonderful JOb tht ¡ year under Mr Ltng's leadership. With the continuing upport of the Band Boosters and a lot of talent being formed in the elementary and Junior High schools, the future of the band looks bright.

The \\ H .. Golf Team had a .500 cason this year and finished third in the Kenton Trace Conference. The team was paced b} en or Blake mallwood, the onl} real veteran player on the team. The Big Orange Crush! The Waynesville football partans, tarted out the seas' n Y.ith hope of 1m proving on a 7-3 1982 sea on. Wayne ville again opened the year with an impre sive 50-0 victory over Batavia Bulldog . J1m Deters led the on taught b)' ru~hing for 133 yards and Phillip Hubbell added 92 :rds. The 2nd game of the sea on was again t the tough Little 'vfiami Panther . The partan had not lo~t to the Panthers in 5 :rr . and by hanging on in an -6 victory, it became 6 in a rOY.. The game y,a highlighted by the Orange Cru h's goal line topping of the Panther on three occa ·ion . after giving up 300 :rds. This ran WHS' record to 2-0.

Our next game. against arch-nval. the e\\ M1am1 Vikmg · Y.as played on their aiY.a)s-tough home field. The partans pre\ailed 14-6 by coring the goahead touchdown after an 0-yd dnve m the 4th Qtr. Phil Hubbell ru hed for u career-high 145 yd & I T 0 to lead the partan ground attack. The Y.in ran the partans to a 3-0 record and set up the next encounter ... Y.ith Clinton '-1a ·s1e m the first KT C game

Waynesville played Massie at Waynesville and came with a hard fought 16-10 victory, the Falcon capitalized on 2 Spartan fumbles to score I TD and I FG The Spartans saw themselves behind I 0-8 in the 4th qtr. for the 2nd week in a row, but the Spartans offense again rose to the occa ion to put together a 68 yd scoring drive to pull out their 4th victory m a row. The attack was led this time by Frosh Paul Woods who rushed for 95 yds and the winning TD. This set us up as the confronter with undefeated Southeastern and Homecoming for the Spartans. This was not to be a happy Homecoming for the Spartans. Waynesville committed 7 turnovers and gave up 21 pts. in the final4 min. of the 1st half to go behmd 21-0 at halftime. The 2nd half was no better a Southeastern ran the total to 35-0 by 56-0 at the end of the game. The TroJans went on to a 10-0 season and a berth in the State playoffs. Wayne ville traveled to Greenview the next week

Wayne ville went to Indiana country with the ame newfound confidence after the East Clinton victory and it howed on the field . The Orange Cru h defen e recorded its 2nd hut-out of the year by holding the Indian to nearly 133 total yard "'hile the Spartans rolled up 279 yd in pa ing a 14-0 victory. Deter again led the offen e by rushing for 123 yds while out tanding performance were turned in on the offensive line by Mark Joefreda, Chris Brook hire, Brent Wentzel, Steve Meece, and Richard Bryant. Defen ively the Cru h was Jed by Jeff 0 borne and Matt \ olfe who picked off his 2nd pa of the ea on. Wayne ville would now be 6 and 2 and "-Ould be going to Yello"- Spring for Parent' , ' ight. Wayne ville came out but did not look too enthu ed to play the lowly ( 1-7) Bulldog . The Spartan held Yellow Spnng to only 91 yard and one touchdown (in the fourth quarter), while coring once in each quarter themselves for a final core 24-6. Waynesville's offense rolled up 355 yds. Deters had 2 TO & 101 yds & Cassidy had 93 yd for the game.

The night belonged to Ed Orr and \ ance air on offense. Rodne) Bailey scored the fir t TO of the game after Orr hit Yair on a 26yd pass play to the lyd line, the Comets fumbled the ensuring kickoff and Bobby Davis recovered for the partans on the Comets 45yd line. Orr again hit Yair on a 45yd scoring stnke to 6 out of II passes for 125 yd and I TO and rushing for 52 more yds. air caught 3 pa es for 9yds, I TO, and returned the opposing kickoff of the game 62yd . The Orange Crush defense was awe orne the whole game by giving up only 9yds to Mason the entire night. Mason was able to score in the 4th qtr. on a punt return to make the final 12-7. Warren County War of Wits The Waynesville High School team captured Warren County's first academic War of Wits. It was billed by some as the county's "academic champion hip". All eight chool district in the county participated. Each member of the team received a gold medallion, engraved with War of Wits 1984 Champ , while Waynesville High School received the wmner's trophy. A BIG Time in France! The French tub & .\1r Dillon ponsored the fifth annual trip to France pnl 12-2 . It was the thnll of a lifetime for the participants. The French Club ponored such actiVItle as the pastry sale at auerkraut Festival, an Omon oup supper, Chn tmas \Heath & mi tletoe ¡ale and the gourmet dinner on March 31 . .. to help finance the trip. French Club Dinner

The Fifth Annual French Club Gourmet Dinner wa a great uccess. Over I00 people paid $30 to enjoy the excellent menu (right). The French Club tudent prepare the meal under Mr. Dillon's supervision. French I students then erve the meal course by course. The money i used to help finance the French Club's annual trip to France. The fine food & pleasant company made this year's dinner particularly special. A tanding ovation ended a great meal.
