Our Senior year will be one remembered for years to come. In the fall there was much excitement in the air as our hometown REDS won the World Series in a four-game sweep against the Oakland A's. Go Big Red! The excitement soon changed to tension as the U.N. deadline grew near. January 15, 1991, came and went by and then on January 16 at 6:57 p.m. all eyes were on the TV as the WAR in the Gulf began. Along w1th the war came new terms in our vocabulary such as scud, patriot, Kent , Arnett, Powell, and Schwarzkopf. We were all relieved when Operation Desert Storm changed to Operation Peace only 100 hours after the ground war began on February 27, 1991.
10
The Super Bowl was an unusually close game as the NY Giants beat the Buffalo Bills 20-19 . In other¡---~ sports, OSU advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA w1th an undefeated UNL V the probable champion. We also saw the passing of the famous creator of the Muppets, J1m Henson, composer Bernstein, and actor singer, Sammy Davis, Jr.

SE'l1IO'RS .. • What A 'Grip!! The class of '91 was a somewhat untraditional class: independent, cliquish, filled with contrasting types of people. This class, however, has made some noteworthy achievements in the areas of art, academics, and athletics. In this class are Waynesville's FIRST athletic state champion and a National Merit Scholar. These accomplishments make this class one to be remembered and treasured for years to come.

The 1990 football season was a season of ups and downs. After winning the opening game, the team lost its next three before rebounding to win the final four games of the season . The Spartans finished at 6·4. They had a 5·2 league record which was good for third place. With only four seniors the team was very young. With 28 returning lettermen, the future of the next year's team looks bright. The opening game was against Blanchester at home. With Tim Adams and Josh Miller running the ball, the Wildcats were kept at bay. Ritchie Arnold's fumble return for a TO lifted us to a 16·6 win . Game two was at Little Miami. The team was not in the game and committed numerous turnovers. Little Miami won 28·23, and our record stood at 1·1. The next Friday, the team traveled to Kings High School to face the Knights. The much bigger Knights controlled the tempo and dominated the game. Tim Adams scored our only touchdown as Kings won 27 · 7. The Spartans were on the road for the third week in a row, this time at Southeastern. The Trojans were picked by many to win the KTC. The game was played on a rainy night. The weather, plus several mistakes, plagued the Spartan offense. Waynesville couldn't get anything going as Southeastern won 27-0. Our record dropped to 1·3. The Spartans finally returned home to face our archrival, the Cedarville Indians. Again it was rainy and muddy, but the defense held the high-powered Indians offense to six points. In overtime Tom Boggs scored on an eight-yard run giving us an emotional 12·6 victory. The next week was homecoming . The Spartans met the Golden Eagles of Madison Plains who were unbeaten and in first place in the KTC. Chris Smith kicked a 33-yard field goal early in the first quarter. The offense never threatened again as Madison Plains totally took over. We lost 24·3. We got back on track at Clinton Massie. Pat Foley quarterbacked a smart game. Tim Adams, Tom Boggs, Curt George, and Josh Miller all had touchdowns as we won 60· 27. The next game was against Greeneview at WHS. Chris Smith's 24-yard field goal with seven seconds left powered the Spartans to a heart-stopping 16·14 triumph! Parents' Night was against East Clinton. Pat Foley led the team with two scores. Tim Adams and Josh Miller each scored and Tom Boggs caught a conversion pass as the Spartans won 26·12. The final game was at Yellow Springs. Trying to finish above .500, the defense played a great game limiting the Bulldogs to a field goal and a safety. Again, Tim Adams, Tom Boggs, and Josh Miller each scored. Waynesville won 41·5. Despite a rough early schedule and low morale, the team shuwed its mettle by pulling together to win its last four games. Thus, the 1990 football season ended with a bang.

1990 Volleyball Season The Spartan volleyball team was led by Senior Tara Williams in a 10-13 record. Tara was selected KTC AllLeague, and Jackie Richardson was selected KTC Honorable Mention. The team's attitude on and off the court helped them finish 5th in the KTC . We have high hopes for next year seeing that there will be a number of returning lettermen (if they stick it out) .

Each team had an enormous amount of determination to win . The "this is war" motto accompanied each player as she walked onto the field, but each was friends again as soon as the last second ticked off the clock.
'Redefine lntensitH Vanessa Vair, Krista Jones, and Jackie Klein each scored touchdowns of their own for the Senior I Frosh team; and late in the game Jenny Wentworth found the endzone for a touchdown for the Junior I Sop h. team. The game ended with a 19-8 win by the Senior I Frosh team. Congratulations!!! This year was also very special because we accented on "TEAM CLOSENESS." "Being close to your teammates and your coaches made a player want to try even harder in the game to win," quoted a Junior I Soph player, "and it was more fun!"

FRIENDSHIP
We were thirteen, thirteen guys from different walks of life and of different ages. We started a relationship and became a family together, and we went through bad times and good times. Finally, we made it to high school; and our fnendsh1p became stronger, like links in a chain that could never be broken. Our love for each other was never like anything in the world or could be defined. We all had dreams and vowed to be together and keep m touch when we finally went our separate ways. But suddenly, one disappeared; and there were only twelve left. There was confusion and sorrow. But now there's hope because through sadness there's friendship and love more than ever. One is gone, but now there is one to take his place. A younger generation that will learn from us, his new brother, and we teach him the ways that he should be taught - the ways to be a good and better person just like his brother was. Kevin came into this world with love and went out with love, and he w1ll be remembered as a friend and a member of a big family. - Tom Casebolt

YEARBOOK
• • •
With the leadership of first-year advisor, Mrs. Wolfe, the 1991 yearbook was off to a good start. With a new yearbook program this year, students became involved with all aspects of the book up to the final copy. The staff was virtually inexperienced, but each learned while doing. For the first time, students from all four grades were involved to insure equal coverage of the classes. The yearbook promptly met all of its deadlines this year. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Jackie takes a break.
Mrs. Wolfe shows Heidi and Shelley the right way.
