The 1997 Spartan is ...

-----Dedicated to Mrs . Betty King

Betty King is an unusually gifted person - gifted in her ability to reach and touch the lives of others. Devoted to her students and a role model for her colleagues, she exemplifies the dedicated teacher, the WaynesviJJe High standard. Betty's mo t valued asset as a teacher is her caring nature. She i elf- acrificing and aware of others' feelings. She listens. She makes time for others. She develops long-term, endearing friendships. Although she is modest about her own abilities, Betty exude self-confidence. She quietly demands respect from tho e around her, and she reciprocates by showing confidence in others. She believes that each person should do his or her best. Applying this rule to herself as weD as to her students, be is focused; and she expects aU her students to et goal for them elves. Betty bas always been inteUectuaUy curious, intrigued by the thoughts and ideas of others, both past and present. This entbu iasm for pro e seems to flow from her person to her students. be generates in them an appreciation for the written word and a desire to express their own thoughts accurately and imaginatively. Her students are motivated to pursue ideas and to seek in igbts into the minds of others and into their own mind a weD. Many have gone on to further studies in the humanities as a result of Betty's inspiration. Betty bas bad a significant influence on a generation of Waynesville students. In her gentle way, she bas shown many young men and women that they are capable of higher achievement and bas encouraged them to reach for the stars. - Johnnie Polly
