Number of suspects in Kaweesi murder up to 4 0 The number of suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi has risen to 40, nearly two weeks after IGP Kale Kayihura announced the arrest of the first two suspects as they allegedly attempted to escape to DR Congo. Kaweesi, one of the highest ranking police officers, was gunned down along with his driver and bodyguard in Kulambiro, Ntinda on Friday March 17.

Perhaps it was pure coincidence, or Stella Nyanzi’s social media activism to provide free sanitary pads to poor school girls is yielding fruits as government is set to remove taxes on sanitary pads, in addition to a number of other goods in the next financial year, as a measure to make them more accessible. If the proposed 18% VAT waiver gets approved by Parliament, it will lead to an average drop in price of pads of Shs5001,000 per pack. The other items for which the government has proposed tax cuts include agricultural feeds, irrigation equipment and ingredients used in baking.

A traders’ demonstration against a hike in rent fees turned sour after a security guard shot one of the protestors, also a trader, dead. The Tuesday morning shooting happened at Superior Complex at Arua Park in Kampala. The traders were unhappy with the increase in the rent from Shs1.5m to 2.5m and had sought to make their displeasure known to the landlord via a protest at the premises. Police said it was holding the suspected shooter, identified as Isaac Abala.

And here’s a compilation of pros and cons of the materials:

Enameled cast iron

This is a standard model that lasts for decades, has a timeless look and retains heat well. The downside of cast iron is that it is can be very heavy; weighing over 200kgs when filled with water. Your floor must be well built to support the load. Also the enamel chips easily to show the black cast iron underneath.

Enameled steel

Now this one is much lighter but with a similar look as cast iron. Its upside is also its downside as being light means that it chips

easily and can be noisy when water hits it.

Fibreglass

Another alternative lightweight material is fibreglass. However this material doesn’t hold heat well, can scratch, fade and is not all that durable.

Acrylic tubs

An acrylic tub is more durable than all aforementioned materials and holds heat perfectly. Of course this upside also makes it more expensive.

Cast polymers

This is a material which is cultured with marble, granite or onyx. It is thicker than acrylic and also holds heat better. However, its gel coat finish is not as durable as acrylic.

Soapstone

Now this is a super high-end alternative material. A tub made out of soapstone is the stuff dreams are made of. If you’re a junky for timeless stuff, soapstone is what you’re looking for. The downside; heaviest of all other materials.
