rom the moment we stepped onto the spacious semi-outdoor lobby, we knew we would have a great experience at Padma Resort Ubud. Nestled in the north of Bali’s celebrated cultural center and far away from the party bustle, Padma offers a tranquil and peaceful stay. It is about two hours from Ngurah Rai airport via Padma’s shared-ride shuttle or rented car and twenty minutes northward of Ubud Center on a motorbike. The resort has 149 tastefully designed and spacious rooms providing maximum comfort and flexibility to accommodate different travellers ranging from honeymooners to large families. We were welcomed into the lobby with its exquisite wall art, landscaped gardens and interconnecting ponds, setting the tone for a fascinating vacation. From this vantage point we had a view of the lush bamboo forest and untouched river valleys in the foreground and mountains in the distance. The air is comfortably cool in the morning and night. As we entered our room on the second floor, we immediately headed to the private balcony and stood in awe at the panoramic river valley. We see nothing but the green lush forest which is a real treat to our eyes. On to one side is a glimpse of the stunning infinity pool. The atmosphere is so serene it feels like we were in a world of our own. After having our fill of the view we stepped back into the tastefully designed bedroom equipped with artisan-crafted furnishings, hand-carved wood detailing, state-of-the-art media and spa-inspired en suite bathrooms. On our first day we tried the 89-meter long infinity swimming pool that connects to the resort via an enchanting glass-top tunnel. The pool gave us a breathtaking view and a whiff of the refreshing mountain air of Ubud. The water is cool during the day to provide

an invigorating oasis on warm afternoons, and is heated when the temperature drops to allow for comfortable morning and evening swims. The stylish pool deck and comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas provided us with the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy countless hours of relaxation. Feeling a bit sporty the next day we took a morning jog in the 3.4-kilometer track designed to meander through the resort’s lush tropical gardens and along the crystalclear waters of the mystical river that flows beneath the resort. This is an excellent route for our pre-breakfast sunrise activity but is also ideal for a leisurely walk after lunch. Food is one of the best things in Padma. We were served a very generous breakfast at Puhu Restaurant & Lounge, with a choice of set menus including American, Japanese, Indonesian and Healthy. The restaurant is on the top floor overlooking the pool and luscious gardens and boasts an impressive 180-degree view of the bamboo forest and terraced rice paddies. Aside from breakfast, this spacious al fresco dining room offers a selection of tantalizing dishes including Indonesian, Asian and European specialties. We had the best strawberry yogurt here: it was so fresh and delicious. We also recommend the chocolate croissant especially when they are still hot from the oven. We also tried the air-conditioned library to enjoy a more private space and a tranquil setting for an afternoon tea. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Padma Resort Ubud and will fondly remember the combination of the green of the woods and mountains, five-star service and a beautiful design and layout, creating an unforgettable experience for body and mind.
