Be careful, though, not to add too much detail because it will make you look heavy and overweight. What about plus size women? The A-line dress or semi-mermaid dress with arms covered in a very light material will be suitable for full-sized ladies. What they should avoid is the ball gown kind of dress and too much detail: remember less is more.

There are many other choices and trends such as that combining an off-white base with champagne or silver embroidery details; or a nude color base with embroidered off-white details. Details. Geometric, floral, thematic and full complexion are quite popular this year. Hair Style. Trends this year are also varied, but lean toward the more modern and sleek do’s, or a little bun, or the “messy” natural look.

What kind of Wedding Dress is suitable for an outdoor ceremony? Light-weight material such as Tulle, Chiffon and Lace Solstice would be the best choice for outdoor events. As for the dress style, I suggest a semi-mermaid cut or just a simple A-line.

Where do you usually get inspiration for your designs? I research on Paris couture trends and then make a mood board with my team to determine the big theme for the collections -- from bride couture, readyto-wear, women’s wear and men’s wear. Our 2016 theme was Peacock; this year, we’re adopting an Art Nouveau signature.

What else should be considered when choosing a Wedding Dress? The volume and length of the dress-tail should be adjusted according to the size of venue and bride’s body shape. Also, do

She takes pride when her clients look beautiful in her designs. Describe your designs in five words. Classy, Graceful, Elegant, Dreamy, Beautiful Do you believe that every woman, regardless of her body type and size, can look beautiful in a dress? Why? YES! As a designer, I have the responsibility to make clothes nice and pretty for women. I also enjoy guiding women on how a piece of clothing can look beautiful and fit for use. I am aware and I understand women’s different body types and what pieces or designs will suit them. 048

Can you give us some tips when choosing a wedding gown / evening gown? There are five types or shapes of a woman: Apple Shape An apple-shaped body is “top heavy,” and if you have this shape, then you have a wide torso, broad shoulders, and a full bust, waist, and upper back. You also would have thinner arms, legs, and hips, and tend to gain weight at your waistline. If you have an apple shaped-body, then you should be proud of your fuller figure and get ready to flaunt it. But if you want to show off what you’ve got, you need to dress appropriately. TIPS: Select upper clothes that are loose. Avoid accents at the waist that can give “bulk”. Choose an A-Line skirt or dress with a dark or a solid colour so that you look slimmer. Pear Shape If you are a pear shaped body, then your hips are larger than your bust, you have a

nicely defined waist, an elegant neck and proportionately slim arms and shoulders. You first gain weight in your bottom and legs followed by your tummy and upper body, your waist is your best asset so don’t be afraid to show it off. TIPS: It is almost the same with Apple shape, you should avoid for jagging. Straight Shape Straight shaped means that the bust and hips are basically the same size and the waist is slightly smaller than the bust and hips. TIPS: The key to dressing a Straight body type is to proportionally dress the top and bottom of your body while enhancing your waist. Wear form-fitting clothing (such as a tube-type dress) if you’re comfortable with it, and create a waist by adding a wide, dark belt. However, to create a more curvaceous effect, add volume (or the illusion of volume) proportionally to

your upper and lower body by mixing and matching coordinated separates. V Shape If you are V-shaped, you have an athletic body that is larger at the top. When you gain weight, it gives you a muscular look. TIPS: Wear an off-shoulder top (Tarzan look) to camouflage the bigger part of your body, which is your shoulder or top, and choose feminine clothes with a mini skirt. Hourglass Shape The bust and hips are basically the same size and your waist is well defined. TIPS: The key to dressing an Hourglass body type is to proportionally dress the top and bottom of your body while accentuating your waist. Wide belts over shirts and dresses are a great way to show off your waist. You can create an even more curvaceous effect by proportionally adding a bit of volume to your upper and lower

body, but always try to maintain balance since it is your best asset. You have great legs so feel free to play with skirt lengths. What are some of the things we have to think about when choosing a gown? Apple & Pear Shape = Chiffon Straight Shape = Jacquard duchess organza for volume V Shape = Allowed to wear a tight dress, but should not wear a â&#x20AC;&#x153;Sabrinaâ&#x20AC;? top as you will be seem bigger around the shoulders. You are famous for designing beautiful Qi Pao. When people think of Qi Pao, most of us will think that only a tall and slender person will look good in a Qi Pao, is that true? Can all body types look good in a Qi Pao? Yes, sure. Everybody can look good in Qi Pao, there are some rules which are basically the same as the all tips above. However, for apple and pear shaped women, I do not recommend using the span look; straight cut skirts are the better option.

Can you give us some tips when choosing a Qi Pao? Do not choose a dress that looks thick; instead, choose a thinner material. The mother of the bride and groom are important figures in a wedding, yet somehow they often a little bit forgotten. Can you give us some tips in choosing the right gown for an elderly woman? For the mothers of the bride and groom, it still will depend on the personality or character and the body shape. If the mother of the bride and groom still has a proportional body shape, she can wear a Mermaid look dress; otherwise, she can wear an A-Line and try to use sleeves to cover certain body parts . What are the trends in 2017? Soft Candy, with a simple motif.

Fit-and-Flare Dress

This type of gown mimics the shape of an hourglass, so you will want to focus your exercise on the midsection area of your body. 1. Twister Crunch Step 1: Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat. Hold each end of the band out in front of your chest with your arms extended at slightly more than shoulder-width apart. Step 2: Lean your upper body backward about 45 degrees and lift your legs off the ground until your calves are parallel to the floor. Rotate the upper body to your right, swinging your hands around to follow your body. Your right hand should reach about two inches from the floor. Repeat to the left. Do 10 repetitions. Area Worked: Abdominal, side torso Equipment: A resistance band

2. Bent-Over Dumbbell Rows Step 1: Stand with your legs hip-width apart and hold your weights with a palms-in grip. Keep your back straight and bend forward at the waist with your knees slightly bent. Step 2: Extend your arms straight down. Pull the dumbbells toward your chest. Keep your elbows close to your sides and pull with your back muscles while raising elbows as high as possible. Step 3: Slowly lower your arms back to the starting position. Try for 15 reps. Area Worked: The middle part of your back Equipment: Two kilograms dumbbell

The collarbone is the star in this wedding dress type, so you will want to work both your shoulders and arms to tone up the area.

2. Plank Pose Step 1: Lie face down. Rest on your forearms with your elbows directly under your shoulders and your palms flat on the floor. Step 2: Push up off the floor and onto your toes (feet together) while resting on your elbows. Keep your back flat and in a straight line. Tighten your abs by pulling your navel up and in slightly. Avoid sticking your butt in the air or letting your back sag. Hold for 30 seconds. Lower and repeat. Try for five reps. Area Worked: Whole-body workout, with emphasis on upper abs Equipment: A yoga mat

en’s bodies may vary less than women’s but that doesn’t mean you can afford to ignore what looks best on you when buying a suit. Knowing your body type is the first step to finding your suit soulmate. Find out what suit best fits your shape.

Short •

Avoid really big prints that will overwhelm your look. This including says no to big ties.

Tall & Skinny •

Choose (large) horizontal stripes to bulk you up a bit and help you appear more substantial.

Vertical stripes are one of the greatest ways to create the illusion that shorter men are taller than they really are.

•

Say no to skinny pants and choose a straight cut that will better flatter you.

•

Combine more than two colours. Choose a lighter colour like white, cream, beige, light blue, light grey or khaki to give you a slightly larger appearance.

Double vents emphasize the outside lines of the body so they create a longer silhouette that complements and lengthens your frame.

•

A fitted shirt and suit is the best option. Avoid anything skinny or baggy or loose. You can add detail on the shirt for a bit of fun.

•

Choose a heavier fabric to add some weight and proportion to your shape.

•

Three buttons and a higher button stance on your jacket is more flattering for tall guys.

Wear pants with a longer rise, which is the distance from the waistband to the bottom edge, which are more comfortable and look nicer on tall men.

Go for a single or no vent. The vents will make you more comfortable and fuller.

Look for low rise pants to “stretch out” the torso, making you seem sleeker and longer. In fact, the lower the rise of the pants, the longer the body looks. Also, avoid cuffs on the pants because they will shorten your legs. Choose a jacket with one or two buttons with a lower button stance to give you some length.

Bulky •

Choose prints carefully and avoid any horizontal or diagonal stripes, or large, busy prints. They will double your bulk.

•

Avoid double-vented jackets. Choose a model that covers your bottom like a single-vented jacket or one without vents.

•

Choose a two-button, single-breasted suit to draw attention away from your bulk.

•

Don’t loosen the jacket, it’s not going to flatten your shape. It does work for women, but for men please keep it fit. Your clothes should just skim your body without hugging it too closely.

•

Choose a lightweight fabric and also a dark colour to help cover your shape.

•

Go with a maximum of two similar colours. For example, a black suit with a dark blue or grey shirt.

•

Suits pants should be worn at your natural waist, at the belly button or above to cover the belly.

Attention please! 1. Pay attention to small details like the size and shape of the pocket or trouser cuff. Individually, each detail has a small effect, but together they can make your shape bigger or smaller. 2. Try on your site three days before the wedding day. This will help you avoid any panic on the wedding day if the suit or shirt doesn’t fit like the first time you tried it on.

How do I avoid bags under my eyes on the big day? Avoid rubbing your eyes, get enough sleep and do not drink too much water the night before. How can I give a boost to my limp, thin hair? Just use hot rollers on the day of the event. Divide your hair into eight sections. Starting at the roots, twist each section before you wrap it around a roller. Leave rollers in for 30 minutes, then gently brush out the curls with your fingers, being careful not to stretch the hair or it will lose its bounce. The day before your event soak your hair in warm water, apply a deep conditioning mask, then wrap hair in aluminium foil. Leave for 30 minutes and then remove the foil. The day before you go to the salon or you want to colour your hair at home, apply a mixture of one cup of baby shampoo and two tablespoons of baking soda. Nothing is Impossible Ms. Ika R. Pranoto, the Director of Catering and Conference Services of Four Seasons Jakarta, opens up about her time in the hospitality and wedding industry, her work philosophy, and what sets Four Seasons Jakarta apart from other wedding venues. How long have you been working in the hospitality industry? And how long have you been involved in the Wedding industry? I started my career with Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok in 1998, right after my graduation from Les Roches Hotel Management School in Switzerland in 1997. After that, I went back to Indonesia to work in the hospitality industry in Jakarta. I applied for work for nearly six months in 2000 and eventually formed a small business as a wedding organizer with some friends. I did this until 2005 when I started to work for the pre-opening team The Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan and in 2007 moving forward to join the preopening team at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place until in 2012 then I decided to join the Four Seasons family until closing in December 2014. Right after the old Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta then I had the opportunity to move to The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain and here I am now going back to the Four Seasons Family. So in total, I have been doing wedding organizing and corporate events since the year 2000 until now; it’s almost 17 years. What do you find most attractive about working in the wedding industry? I like to do something related to and gives happiness and beauty. A wedding is a once in a lifetime occasion and every couple wants only the best on their most special day. I love seeing people happy while preparing for one of the most important days of their life as a couple. So even if wedding preparations require much patience and a lot of time (usually about a year or so), I am ultimately rewarded with the happiness and satisfaction I see in my clients’ faces. I also get my satisfaction in seeing the beauty of the wedding event radiate from the decorations, ambiance and overall elements at the time of wedding ceremony and reception. What is your philosophy towards work? I always keep in mind that there is nothing impossible; “impossible” is just a perception and not reality. In my opinion, everything is possible if we are willing to 0120

do it and exert effort to achieve it. We also have to always believe in ourselves and all that we are, know that there is something inside us that is greater than any obstacles. Even when we have to face obstacles, challenges, opportunities, if we believe in our hearts that we can do it, I am absolutely sure that we can. What makes Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta different from any other hotel in the area? What is your unique selling point? There are several unique features that distinguish us from any other hotel in the country. Firstly, our Ballroom has the perfect size -- not too large and not too small either. The same thing goes for the height of the ceiling; 7.5 meters is just perfect because you can decorate it by using curtains to cover some of the area or you can divide them without spending too much. Secondly, our location is what our guests, particularly like because we are not adjacent to any malls so the venue exudes an ambience of exclusivity and privacy. Our guests also appreciate the ease of car parking, as we have around 1,200 parking spots available. Added to easy parking, we have a dedicated ballroom

drop-off as well as two points of access to the Ballroom -- via a dedicated elevator and an escalator, or from the hotel main lobby. Thirdly, we are the only Ballroom in Jakarta that has natural daylight in all our foyer areas. Our front foyer faces the pool while the rear foyer faces Gatot Subroto Road. And our foyers are the only ones in the city decorated with wall pieces made of chiseled and engraved giant natural stone; a true masterpiece from Hadi Prana. Because the foyer areas are already beautiful and stunning, you do not need to add too much decorations. And last, but not the least, is the food! We are the only hotel in Jakarta that cooks the meal “just in time”. Most hotels cook the meals about 5 or 6 pm and put it on plates or boxes, to be reheated by dinner time; this makes the food less fresh. At Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta we start cooking only 1/3 of the total menu around 5 pm and as reception goes along, we continue to cook the rest of the meal. So guests experience the freshness of the dishes. Added to that, we offer a lot more food variety than our competitors and we gain many compliments for our innovative cuisine and the impeccable taste of our food.
