Editor’s
Letter
The Power of Love lot of people might expect the editor’s letter of a wedding magazine to be all about how wonderful love is; that after a couple gets married the sky turns blue, the birds sing and the world is suddenly a better place. I am all for that, and I believe in happily ever after (of course it takes a lot of work to make it happen). But the most important thing with love is honesty. Love doesn’t have to be perfect; it just needs to be sincere. What is love? If you are reading this magazine it is most likely that you already know what love really means. We all have our definition of love, but which one is the right one? Can love be described with words? For me, there are no words that can perfectly describe what love really means. Love is something that you can only feel in your heart. Love can turn your world upside down and inside out. Love is when you feel butterflies in your stomach every time you see that someone special. Love is what drives you to do things you wouldn’t normally do. Love is why you can’t stop smiling every time you think of him or her. Love is the reason the world suddenly seems so beautiful. Love is so powerful that it can make you or break you. To love and be loved is the most wonderful thing in this world, and I’m pretty sure you agree with me now that you have found the love of your life, the person who completes you, the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. It is magical, almost miraculous, to find that one person you could not imagine your life without. Now it is time to prepare for the most special moment in your life, your wedding. It’s a new beginning, the start of your journey as a husband and wife. Naturally you want everything to be perfect because this is a day you will remember for the rest of your life. Whatever your idea of the perfect wedding, one thing that is certain is that it will take a lot of time and a lot of planning to achieve, and we are here to help.
22
It’s time to find the perfect location for your wedding theme, and we take you to several venues that will take your breath away. Your wedding venue should be as unique as you and your love, and we take a look at some extraordinary places to get married, from “Destinations Wedding in Vietnam” to “Love Between the Pages”. Now, imagine the sand between your toes, warm waves lapping at your feet, the setting sun turning the tropical sky into a riot of colours, you and your spouse strolling along the shore and exchanging your vows in front of family and friends. Your dream wedding do can come true. Preparing for a wedding, everything has to be just right. And one of the most important steps is finding the right dress, a daunting task that can turn wedding dreams into nightmares. So instead of finding the dress, why not let the dress find you? We present three of the most inspiring and talented designers, who help turn your dream dress into reality in “Say Yes to Dress.” Your wedding should be about you and reflect your style. Some brides prefer simplicity and comfort, and there’s no reason you can’t have a casual wedding dress and still be trendy and stylish. As long as you know what to look for, you can look “Casual Chic for the Big Day.” The perfect wedding of course has to be followed by the perfect honeymoon. We explore some of the most romantic spots in the world from Maldives to Cambodia. Discover new and exciting locales, try authentic local cuisine and check into romantic boutique hotels in MAXXbrides’ top eight romantic cities of the world in “Love Around the World.” After all, all you need is love, and love is all you need. Enjoy! Melani @traveliciousgal

od blessed this paradise in the middle of the azure waters of the Indian Ocean; a paradise that consists of 1,190 tiny teardrop islands like nowhere else on earth. This may be the most beautiful place on earth. This is the Maldives. The Maldives is composed of tropical islands with palm-fringed beaches and crystal-clear seas, coming together to create the perfect destination for couples in search of romance. The islands have limited vegetation, but are supplemented by the riches of the sea. A breathtaking variety of coral, abundant colourful fish and other sea creatures make the Maldives as beautiful below the water as above, with the islands’ gorgeous beaches and stunning villas. Is it any wonder that discerning lovers from around the world make the pilgrimage to the Maldives year after year? Popular resorts are always booked and availability is limited, with just a few luxury hideaways sprinkled amongst the resort islands. Each resort is situated on its own private island, which provides a rare combination of the ultimate hideaway with world-class services. This may well be the last real paradise on earth and the perfect place for a romantic destination wedding or to renew your vows. If the Maldives is your choice to celebrate your wedding, you and your spouse will be surprised by the service and hospitality. Spa treatments, sunset cruises and quality beach time await you and your lover at every turn. At every destination wedding location, you will enjoy all the benefits of a vacation before the big day arrives. You and your family and friends can
relax before the wedding and take part in activities like snorkelling or swimming with the dolphins, or just lay back on the beach and savour paradise. The Maldives is blessed with gorgeous wedding venues for the ultimate romantic ceremony and party. With exotic sea views, the Maldives promises comfort and privacy for lovers who dream of a private and intimate atmosphere for their big day. Most wedding ceremonies in the Maldives are held on golden beaches, the venues decorated in traditional or Robinson Crusoe style. Some resorts even offer underwater weddings.
Best Time to Come The peak season in the Maldives is between November and April, when it’s hot and dry. There’s more rain from May to July and September to November, but the temperature is still a toasty 32 degrees Celsius on average and the best value offers are available then, too.
Best Place to Get Married in Maldives The perfect place to celebrate love is Hurawalhi Island Resort. Hurawalhi is an enchanting private island surrounded by a beautiful lagoon, excellent house reef, long stretches of white sandy beach and some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Maldives. The resort also boasts a breath-taking undersea restaurant, and it is basically is a piece of heaven on earth.

Destinations Wedding in Vietnam With majestic mountains, beautiful beaches and colourful cities, Vietnam offers a modern metropolis juxtaposed with a timeless charm and exoticism. If you are planning a destination wedding in Vietnam, check out these amazing places.
Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi If it was good enough for alleged newlyweds Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard back in the 1930s, the grande dame of Vietnam is even more posh, and more atmospheric today. Hanoi, with its wide sidewalks, its leafy thoroughfares and smattering of in-town lakes is an eminently walkable city. And what more do honeymooners want of their inaugural days together than to be out and about, hand in hand? Unless of course, they’re indoors. Indoors at the hotel, Le Spa du Metropole is the essence of Old School urban chic, and the beneficiary of a Top-5 list of the best hotel spas in the world by a major U.S. travel magazine. They didn’t have a spa for their first 108 years, but they got one in 2009, and they’ve made up for lost time. What else? Lounge singers at Le Club in the evening. A chocolate buffet every evening. And if Charlie and Paulette are your thing, there is the Charlie Chaplin Suite. 15 Ngo Quyen, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi – Vietnam | Phone. +84 24 3826 6919 |www.sofitellegend-metropole-hanoi.com

The Anam Cam Ranh Since the Anam celebrated its own grand opening in April last year, it has already played host to an array of intimate and large wedding ceremonies on its vast lawn overlooking pristine Long Beach. For weddings, the resort sets up an arch festooned in fresh flowers as well as aisle decorations and chairs to a backdrop of dramatic headlands, rising up to the immediate north and west, and turquoise waters to the east dotted with traditional sampans, coracles and picturesque islands looming just offshore. With more than 300 sunny days a year on average in Cam Ranh, chances are it will be clear blue skies on the big day that also includes the all-important wedding cake, sparkling wine, and an MC for a cocktail reception and dinner with the option of a large formal dining event in the resort’s elegant ballroom. A myriad of settings

across the Anam ranging from reflecting pools to cobblestone pathways flanked by big-bellied water vases and bamboo and frangipani trees also make for striking wedding photo backdrops. To keep pre-wedding nerves at bay, or to unwind following the adrenalin rush of the special day, the Anam’s remarkable new spa villas come complete with couples’ massage tables, a sunken granite Jacuzzi large enough for two, a steam room and a large outdoor pool. Set on 400 square metres of lush hillside land located next to the resort’s 10-treatment room spa’s grounds, the 180-square-metre villas and their spa facilities afford the indulgence of a private spa journey in the privacy of one’s own villa. The Reverie Saigon For unabashedly opulent nuptials, the Reverie Saigon is Ho Chi Minh City’s most luxurious backdrop. A team of Italian design houses collaborated on the hotel’s plush interiors and the place embodies the Italian saying, “La Dolce Vita,” living the good life. The property’s ode to opulence is apparent at its most soughtafter wedding venue, La Scala ballroom, with interiors inspired by the grand décor of Milan’s legendary Teatro alla Scala. The 5th floor pillar-less room covers 618 square meters, with the ability to accommodate 350 guests at round tables or 550 people for a cocktail style affair. The ceilings soar 7.3-metres tall. The entryways are framed in onyx and the fabric-lined walls are by Rubelli, Italy’s oldest fabric manufacturer who also dressed the walls of the grand theater in Milan. Grand chandeliers made of Swarovski crystals round out the extravagant interior. Pre- or post-wedding, couples can book one of the hotel’s Romance Suites. La Residence Hotel & Spa It’s not every marriage that’s blessed by proximity to a river so fragrant its name in English is Perfume. But that’s the way it is in Hue, the one-time imperial capital of Vietnam. Today, the city is renowned for a suite of UNESCO sites that includes palaces, pavilions and the eternal resting places of the Nguyen Kings. With 200 metres of frontage on the fabled Perfume River, La Residence Hotel & Spa most frequently marries its guests off a river-facing terrace that wraps around the rotunda in the 1930-built art deco mansion at the heart of the 122-room hotel.

The hotels’ spa was in the midst of a topto-toe renovation in the late summer of 2018, with new furnishings, facilities and space, and each of the hotel’s 122 rooms enjoyed an extreme makeover in 2018. Heritage Meets Romance The ancestral roots of what a true romance means, celebrate your wedding in these magical temples. Text by Tsania Mahrani | Photos courtesy of each property
Plaosan Temple The Plaosan Temple complex is the embodiment of architectural heritage. Located strategically near the prominent Prambanan Temple, this particular historical piece is more often than not, overlooked by passersby. The moment you place your feet on the grounds of its complex, you are greeted by spacious paddy fields that accentuate the blue skies and the breezy atmosphere. If you look to your right and left, you will notice that each temple in the complex is made

in pairs. And the philosophical history behind it is pretty straightforward; for every single thing that is created on the face of this earth comes in pair so each completes the other, a balance that keeps the earth spinning. Imagining such scenery and the philosophy behind it, it is no surprise that this temple is said to be one of the most romantic spots in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The place is especially popular among couples who have a penchant for archaic
and post-apocalyptic vibes with a dash of philosophical wisdom behind it. Truly, this place is best suited for couples with strong personalities and a relentless sense of romantic pursuit. If you are one of those who are drawn to such scenarios and atmosphere, then this place will never let you down. Jl. Candi Plaosan, Plaosan Lor, Bugisan, Kec. Prambanan, Kabupaten Klaten, Jawa Tengah – Indonesia
Taman Sari Water Castle Taman Sari Water Castle is a fusion of both western and eastern styles of architecture. The sculptures and statues that set the place apart from other similar spots is one of the reasons why it remains a legend. Not to mention the walls that are wrapped in white, symbolizing the sacred nature of the place. The castle was built around the 18th century and was mostly used for resting, setting up workshops, and meditating for the royal family. What made it so unique is the fact it was also used as a sanctuary for the royal armies and citizens alike to hide and defend their land. And you can easily tell that this place has a long history simply by being there; you might as well find an intangible sense of connection with it. Something that is also note-worthy about the place is its bathing area. Palatial pools embellishing the castle’s park; giving the impression that the place was exclusively made for the royals. The park and bathing area are exceptionally alluring at dawn, a scenery that one might want to share with their partner for life. This will give you the experience of a lifetime; it’s as if time decided to stop just so you can relive history in the most romantic of ways. Wisata Taman Sari, Jl. Ratu Boko Temple There are a lot of things to be said about the Ratu Boko Temple. But among those words, one that best describe it is perhaps enigmatic. The origins of this archeological site is not that clear; how it was built and what kind of purpose it served is also uncertain. All of the wonderings and questionings about the place have only heightened its value and curiosity. Especially to those with an unquenchable thirst for adventures. The temple covers 16 hectares of area, which is unconventional when compared with various similar sites nearby. The spacious fields and ruins surrounding the whole place might give an explanation to the stark differences; the place is thought to had been used as a fortified palace, not the normal religious kind of temple. Because of the generous amount of land that the site covers, the first thing you will notice as you walk down the temple is the wind that will caress your cheeks and the greenest of grass that compliments it well. Giving an impression that the place is so out of this world. The site comprises of several remnants of buildings and some are interconnected to each other. When the sun sets, this place will give you a

one-of-a-kind experience to enjoy it; in an open air, from up the hills perfected by the soft winds that passes by. It is the perfect place to gaze into the eyes of someone you would want to spend the rest of your life with. Shoe Stories Wedding shoes might not get as much attention as it deserves, however it is important to give extra attention to your wedding shoes, it might not be so obvious underneath the beautiful dress but can you imagine having to spend a whole day with a pair of shoes that is painfully killing you? It is not only about the style but also the comfort. Text by Melani Semuel | Photos courtesy of Freya Rose
ou want everything about your wedding to be perfect … so don’t overlook the one item that will complete your look – your wedding shoes! It is a good idea to spend the time selecting just the right pair of shoes for your big day. The following tips will help you find the right shoes and make sure that you are simply perfect from head to toe.
Colour me beautiful Your wedding shoes should complement your dress, and should also match your wedding colours and themes. And most important, they should reflect your personality. Your wedding bouquet colours will look fab with wedding shoes of a similar colour – it makes everything blend and go together nicely.
Don’t leave them until last! Brides often focus on the wedding dress and leave the shoes until the last minute. That’s a big no-no. You should bring your shoes to your fittings to determine the length of your gown. An important tip
86
when trying on shoes is to remember that your feet will swell by the end of the big day. Shop for your shoes in advance and remember to wear them around the house every so often to break them in. The last thing you want is to take your shoes out of the box for the first time and encounter blisters along the way. Plus, we all know what it’s like wearing new high heel shoes for the first time. To ensure your wedding shoes don’t kill your feet on your big day, break in those gorgeous new shoes and make them comfortable.
Comfort is the key Think about your wedding day and the location. What type of shoes would be most comfortable? Remember, you will be wearing you shoes from early in the morning until the late at night. You will be on your feet all day at the ceremony, taking photographs at different locations, and dancing and mingling the night away with your guests at the reception, so keep this in mind when selecting your shoes. Will they be comfortable after 12 hours?
Pick the right heel height A medium or low heel is the ideal size for comfort, style and posture. It’s important to consider the height of your partner when selecting your heel height. Most brides prefer their partner to appear taller than them in wedding photographs, so if you are comfortable in higher heels and your partner is significantly taller than you, go for the higher heel. If you’re not used to walking in high heels, don’t buy them! If you want some added height, consider platform heels or lower kitten heels.
Treat your feet! Last but not least, remember to schedule a lovely pedicure before your big day. Slip your feet into your gorgeous wedding shoes with soft skin, neat cuticles and glossy painted nails. Have fun and most importantly, buy the shoes you love! Whatever the style, colour or shape, choose a pair of wedding shoes that make you feel fabulous!

Make That Moment Count Check out these easy tips for writing the perfect wedding vows sure to put tears in the eyes of all your guests. Text by Nandinne Kuntjoro
Wedding vows are simple in concept. It’s just you saying publicly how you feel about your spouse, expressing your hopes and promises for the future. And it’s your time to make all your guests jealous as they imagine taking their turn walking down the aisle. So, making your vows as perfect as possible is the most difficult job for both the bride and the groom. The most important thing when writing your wedding vows is to be honest and speak from the heart. Nothing can beat words spoken truthfully from the heart. Let us show you how to write simple yet beautiful and unforgettable wedding vows.
Remember These 3 Things Beautiful wedding vows depend on your ability to express your love honestly. But there are three things you have to put in your vows: 1. Love declaration 2. Promises 3. Tell a true story from your heart if you want truly mesmerizing vows. There are no rules about how long wedding vows should be, but no matter how heart-felt, you will lose the audience if you go on and on. Keep it at three minutes max.
Steps a plan together with your #1 Make future spouse to make sure that both of you are on the same page. Are you going to write your vows individually and surprise each other or do you prefer to sit down together and write down everything you want in the vows? If you do it individually it might be more exciting, and if you write them together, you can avoid any unwanted surprises at the

Money Talks Money, and talking or not talking about it, can make or break a relationship. Text by Fran Lee e’ve all had arguments about money with our partners. As with any relationship issue, we deal with such conflicts in a variety of ways. Some of us prefer to thrash things out and reach some sort of compromise, while others try to keep the peace by giving in grudgingly. Others simply give up, believing there is no possible resolution, and vow never again to broach the subject. Yet, sweeping money issues under the carpet is not the wisest way to deal with them. Making the situation even more complex is that many of us were brought up to believe that money is a taboo subject and find it difficult to have a serious discussion about finances. The only way for couples to begin feeling secure about their financial futures is to start planning and talking. Communication is the key, and planning a financial future together means having to address issues like lifestyle and financial goals, and making decisions about the way you budget, save and invest.
Where do you want to go?
Planning for the future is a lot like planning for a vacation. If you take it for granted or assume your spouse has similar retirement goals as yourself, you may be in for a rude surprise. One person’s picture of retirement paradise -– regular adventure trips around the world, for instance -– may be the other’s idea of retirement purgatory. It is important for a couple is to sit down together and discuss their goals to ensure they are both travelling on the same path. Couples need to talk openly and honestly and map out how they are going to achieve their goals financially, instead of leaving it all to one person to deal with.
How do you get there?
Once you have figured out together where you’re headed, be it a stream of golf holidays or owning an idyllic piece of property in another country, you can determine how to get there -– how working together you will save and invest towards fulfilling these goals. Some helpful starting points that can pave the
90
way for meaningful conversations about money include:
Acknowledge your different money personalities
Our money personalities shape our attitudes towards money and how we spend and save. While one party may be good at saving, the other may place more value on immediate gratification and prefer to spend in the present. Some may see budgets as a necessary means of controlling spending excesses, while to others ‘budget’ is a bad word. With a bit of compromise you can make the most of your different money habits. If, unlike your partner, you are detailed and organised, you can take charge of ensuring the bills are paid on time and managing the family budget. However, make sure your partner is aware of their responsibilities to ensure you are both on track.
Set a budget
The main source of many financial disagreements between couples is personal spending. Setting a budget can help smooth things out, especially once both parties have sorted out how much of their incomes should go towards household expenses, as well as to a savings and investment plan. While joint accounts can foster unity and trust, they can also be a cause of contention, especially when two people have different financial capabilities and personalities. Personal finance guru and author Suze Orman stresses that couples should retain their individual financial identities while striving for financial intimacy. To that end, consider opening a joint checking account for household expenses and big-ticket items like holidays or home renovations. Determine how much each party should contribute to the joint account each month. The rest of your salaries can go to separate accounts in your own names. Make a pact that anything in these accounts is a nag-free zone – so you are free to save it or spend it on your hi-tech gadgets and boys toys, and she on her shoes and bags. But do set a limit on how much each of you can splurge on yourself each month.
Have regular reviews
Every six months, sit down together and run through the family finances to ensure you are on track. Take into account any changes that may affect your savings and investment strategies, or your insurance policies and wills. Doing this together helps both parties understand this is a team effort. And if anything should happen to one of you, at least the other knows where all the important documents and assets are. We all dream of an idyllic future with our partners, but the reality is that not communicating now about what this future encompasses, or how you plan to realise it, is not going to help make it happen. It can also make you feel financially insecure and uncertain about the future. Because you want to be prepared when retirement rolls around, setting financial and lifestyle goals together, as well as putting in place a savings and investment plan through which you will realise these goals, is best done now. While money issues are often a touchy subject, they can be tackled if couples agree to establish open lines of communication -- keeping an open mind towards the other’s money personality and an eye towards a bright financial future ahead.

Rustic Bali Wedding Nina and Nitaan were so inspired by the rustic boheme and tropical island and knew Bali is the perfect place to unite their lives while rallying all their favorite people. Nina and Nitaan had guest experience at the forefront of their mind from the beginning, and were really looking forward to giving everyone a night to remember. After an adventure in the Ungasan village some time back, they’d ended up literally
stumbling upon the magic of the The Ungasan, which they ultimately chose as their ceremony and dinner site; the venue really feels like you just pulled over on the side of the road with the magic of the clifftop behind you.

Exotic Balinese Honeymoon Cocooned within tropical gardens, alongside a river and lush green paddy fields, PLATARAN CANGGU BALI RESORT & SPA is an oasis of amazing peace and tranquility – a secret romantic hideaway disturbed only by the twittering of birdsong and the crickets’ hum. Text by Melani Semuel | Photos courtesy of Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa
he moment we set foot in Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa, we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience. Set amidst nature, Plataran Canggu Bali exudes the charm of true Indonesian heritage. Our car dropped us off at the reception area, which is a 250-year-old traditional joglo house that was transported from its original location in Central Java and reassembled at the resort, providing a blend of Indonesian culture across the islands. The joglo is made of teak and has a unique pagoda-style ceiling design and intricate carvings on the wooden pillars. Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa truly is where the comforts of fine living seamlessly blend with nature and
tradition, creating an exotic labyrinth of Balinese luxury, with enchanted gardens and 20 traditional-style villas. Plataran Canggu’s landscape, designed in the form of a labyrinth, is the legacy of the late renowned landscape architect – Made Wijaya. This unique structure allows guests to wander off and explore the ultimate privacy and serenity of the resort. As we were escorted to our villa, we could not stop taking pictures of this wonderful resort. The resort really pays attention to the details, from the beautiful vintage items around the resort down to the old doors on each villa.
Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa is far from the madding crowd, comfortably tucked next to a village and lush green paddy fields, with a river flowing alongside the villas. It feels like being in a world all on your own. Our villa was pure serenity and during our stay we mastered the art of doing nothing. We simply soaked up the sun while listening to the wind and the bird’s singing; pure bliss for our ears. Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa offers guests a unique and truly relaxing location to enjoy your honeymoon away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. This is a magical oasis set amidst lush gardens. With 20 traditional alang‐alang-roofed villas and antique carved doorways, to say this property is unique would be an understatement of great proportions. No noise and no distractions – just personalized, attentive service. One thing I have noticed about Plataran Hotels & Resorts is that their food is really good. That is certainly true at Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa. Patio restaurant serves up delicious food, and the restaurant’s unique location offers a wealth of choices for romantic dinners. The terrace leads to a sparkling pool overlooking the river, with waterfalls accompanying a cacophony of birdsong. Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa is a honeymoon destination to enjoy peace and quiet, a retreat from our busy lifestyle, a place simply to relax and smell the roses and treasure the moment with each other.

Where the Sound of the Sea Is Your Lullaby Set on an enchanting private island in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll in the Maldives, Hurawalhi Island Resort is the perfect match of serenity and excitement, comfort and adventure. The perfect place to celebrate love.

ave you noticed that no matter how loud you turn up your iPod, you can’t block out the traffic noise? Does it no longer surprise you when yo u look up at the sky at night, and the only “stars” you see are massive electronic advertising billboards competing with office lights from all those people working through the night to avoid the traffic? If so, just like us, you live in a big city, and probably need to get away from all that metropolitan madness and fly to the Maldives as we did on our honeymoon. The Maldives has been on our honeymoon must-visit list for a while, and we have been doing researches to find the best place to stay, and that is when we came across the perfect location; Hurawalhi Island Resort. The 40-minute seaplane flight that took us from Velana International Airport offers the most beautiful view we have ever

seen. As the seaplane landed, we were even more stunned by the surrounding landscape. All of the colours were so vivid, from the bright blue of the sky and sea to the dazzling white of the beach and the green of the surrounding hills. My city-weary eyes were overwhelmed. This indeed was the perfect honeymoon hideaway. We were escorted to our Ocean Villa; the villa is spoiled with lavish comfort, exclusivity, and mesmerizing views. The villa offers privacy and comfort, and it is also generous in size. It features a contemporary design, the epitome of tropical chic with clean lines, earth tone colours and natural building materials which harmonize perfectly with the surrounding lush, landscaped vegetation on this unspoilt island. The best thing about the villa is that it has the ocean on our doorstep. I loved the private sundeck with chaise lounges and the stairs directly into the sea. Although I have to admit, we never used the stairs as we just jumped into the sea. After the staff left us alone, we sat down and were stunned by just how peaceful and quiet everything was. We had forgotten life could be like this. The only thing I heard was the wind, the ocean and the occasional macaque calling
in the distance. It felt like we were in a world of our own, its just the two of us and the beautiful nature. That evening, we had the most romantic dinner ever at 5.8 Undersea Restaurant which is the world’s largest, all-glass undersea restaurant. We sat at one of the ten tables located 5.8 metres beneath the lagoon where we enjoyed a scrumptious dinner while being entertained by an exciting natural show of fish swimming around the magnificent surrounding coral reef. It was an experience that we would never forget. It was so unreal, the feeling is simply unexplainable. The following morning, after a delightful breakfast, we soon found out that you would never get bored staying at Hurawalhi Island Resort as there are so many activities offered here. For our first sightseeing of the day, my partner chose to tour The Manta Trust Marine Biology Centre. The Maldives has the world’s largest known population of reef manta rays. The Manta Trust is a wellknown UK based, independent non-profit organization, whose mission is to advance conservation of manta rays and their habitat through science, research, raising awareness and creating influence

by providing education. To be honest I have never thought that the tour would be very interesting as I learnt a lot about the marine environment and how to help conserve the natural beauty of coral reefs.
to seat al fresco and enjoyed our fresh seafood dinner serenaded by the peace of the surrounding lagoon. It was the perfect end to the perfect honeymoon, but we both know that one day we’ll be back.
Back from the tour, we couldn’t wait to enjoy the clear ocean water, so we grabbed our snorkels to explore the beauty of the undersea world, which is literally located just outside our villa. We was greeted by a spectacular array of magical, iridescent and fascinating sea life: green sea turtles, swarming reef fish, clown fish, soft coral, barrel sponges, all surrounded by a myriad of tropical fish.
The time we spent at Hurawalhi Island Resort was extraordinary. It gave us the chance to do nothing, simply enjoying the beauty of nature and treasuring the time that we spent together. We spent much of our stay just soaking in all the luxury, just enjoying life to the fullest. For the perfect Maldivian honeymoon, you have to stay and experience Hurawalhi Island Resort.

The next day, we spent most of the day just soaking in the beauty of the resort and its beautiful underwater world. It was so nice to experience the serene ambience and we really enjoy each other company, being one with nature. We saw a couple getting married at the resort, and it was so beautiful. Hurawalhi Island Resort is blessed with amazingly beautiful scenery which is the perfect place to say “I do”. There is no decoration in the whole world that can match the beautiful scenery that Hurawalhi Island Resort offers. After all the activities, we headed to Duniye Spa for some pampering, and it was exactly what we needed. I had one of the best massages ever at the spa, it was so relaxing, and the skilled therapist knows precisely how to loose the knots from my muscles. After the massage, I was so relaxed and just had to take a nap; I could not remember the last time I had time for an afternoon nap. After the massage and rest, I felt so energize and ready for our next adventure, and when on a night handline fishing. The night handline fishing is a true Maldivian fishing tale, it is one of the simplest, yet most effective fishing methods. As the sun bids farewell to the day, we sail on a boat trying on our luck to catch some fish. It was an exciting experience as I have never tried handline fishing before. It takes a lot of patience and skills to fish, I enjoyed the serenity of the ocean at night, enjoying the waves and the sea breeze. We did not catch anything that night, but I didn’t mind. I was happy enough just being in the middle of all that great nature and stillness. For our last evening at Hurawalhi Island Resort, we headed to Aquarium Restaurant, this over-the-water restaurant specialising in fresh seafood, prime beef, and variety of Asian cuisines. We opted

hen my partner told me that we were going to a romantic weekend getaway at Hotel Café Royal, I got excited as I have heard a lot of good thing about the hotel. I found out that there is nothing ordinary about this hotel, staying at Hotel Café Royal, we encountered numerous surprises. We had such a wonderful time and was incredibly impressed by the hotel. I have to admit that our romantic getaway at Hotel Café Royal is one of the best experiences I have ever had. Located in the heart of London, with elegant Mayfair to the west, creative Soho to the east and sophisticated St. James to the south, Hotel Café Royal is perfectly positioned within walking distance of London’s finest shopping streets, tourist attractions and theatreland.
Room fit for a Royalty When we went up to our room, the Regent Suites, I was immediately impressed. I could not believe that Piccadilly Circus was right outside of our suite. The view was simply amazing, our suite was one of just a couple of rooms at the hotel that have balconies. We went to the balconies, and admired the breathtaking views over London’s most recognisable landmarks, our suites overlooked the bright lights of Piccadilly Circus, up the sweep of Regent Street and down to Westminster just beyond. The suite was very generous in size, crafted in rusticated Portland stone and featuring a separate living room, kitchen, walkin wardrobe and a spacious guestroom. The bathroom was equally impressive, with carrara marble bathrooms exude a sumptuous simplicity and include mirror TV screens, under floor heating and rainfall showers; as well as the indulgence of an oversized bath tub. Later did I find out that the guestrooms and suites at Hotel Café Royal are some of the largest in London. During the day, you can see all the traffic and the city skyline. By night, the view becomes so beautiful with all the city lights. The window can be covered by translucent drapes or heavy curtains when you want to block the light. Both set of curtains are conveniently operated
from a switch by the bed. So when you wake up or go to sleep, you can start or end the day gazing at the incredible view. I was up one night and opened the window and the view was so mesmerising that I never closed the curtains again.
Seventh Heaven One evening we went down to Akasha Holistic Wellbeing – the hotel’s exclusive wellness club. It felt like an oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of London, enhanced further by mood lighting, restorative sounds and uplifting aromas. From nutrition to meditation, and Reiki to Watsu, you can enjoy expert treatments, therapies and training offered at no other London hotel. We spent the evening relaxing at the 18 metres long lap pool. For the ultimate in relaxation, you just have to pamper yourself with one of the signature treatments which marry innovative Western practices with ancient Eastern traditions. There is a private Hammam for purifying scrubs and massages and a Vichy shower for cleansing hydrotherapy rituals. Akasha also boasts London’s first Watsu pool for tailored hydro-treatments and
guided meditation. All you need to do is just relax and unwind and let the experts take you to seventh heaven. There is no wonder why Akasha Holistic Wellbeing was voted England’s Best Hotel Spa in the 2017 World Spa Awards.
The Rich History This luxury hotel enjoys an unrivaled setting on Regent Street steps from Piccadilly, where the elegance of Mayfair, energy of Soho and sophistication of St. James combine. It’s where history, culture, business and the stage are just steps away. That’s one reason why, for 150 years, people who make a difference have made their way through these doors. For Oscar Wilde and Muhammad Ali, Winston Churchill and David Bowie, David Chipperfield and Albert Adrià, Hotel Café Royal has always been the vibrant living room of London, the place to convene, converse and celebrate. Opened in 1865, Café Royal was a wine store, restaurant and the space for the city’s most illustrious events. The haunt of famed patrons, from royalty and celebrity to the creative and the notorious, Café

Royal was an established and iconic landmark on the British capital’s social scene for a century and a half. Paying homage to the illustrious history of the building, the grand, original historic areas dating back to the 1860s and 1920s have been sensitively restored. The serene rooms and suites have been created in a modern and sophisticated style characterised by a refined simplicity touched with grand classical features in stone and copper. The overall effect of the hotel’s 160 guestrooms and suites, including seven signature suites that echo the glories of Café Royal’s past, is calm, assured and distinctive.
Personalised Touches One of the things that stood out during our entire stay was the excellent service that the hotel consistently offered. From the moment we stepped foot inside until the moment we stepped out, we found that everyone was quick, efficient and helpful, but most of all, pleasant. The service here was undoubtedly without peer. The things that make Hotel Café Royal stand apart are its unexpected personalised touches. Hotel Café Royal is a honeymoon haven. The whole hotel is fabulous and romantic. The experience far exceeded all our expectations. The views, the rooms, the food, the spa and the service are in a class of their own. We have to admit that staying there was one of the best experiences we have ever had. It is the place to be whether you are on your honeymoon, celebrating your anniversary or simply want to escape and enjoy a romantic getaway to rekindle your love. New York
St. Petersburg
New York is a city where many love affairs – especially those on the big screen – are forged, and for good reason. From Central Park to the Battery and up to the Village and Soho, this is a city that never sleeps and is always on show. Base yourself at the funky yet chic Muse hotel at Times Square. From there, couples should head then 5th Avenue – maybe for a spot of ring shopping – before heading across to Chinatown for some of the best Asian cuisine in the city. Take in a show at Carnegie Hall or support one of the local teams at Madison Square Garden after a spot of retail therapy in the garment district or at Macy’s. Of course there are some iconic Big Apple things that all couples should do, from walking through Central Park and catching one of the evening outdoor cinema showings, through to walking the Brooklyn Bridge on a sunny Saturday or cruising over to the Statue of Liberty. As the sun sets on the city that never sleeps, be sure to sample the city’s eclectic dining scene, best experienced in the Meat Packing District, before hitting one of the city’s many live jazz clubs.
Russia’s second largest city might be snowed under for half the year, but come the summer months, its rich heritage, from historic buildings to meandering canals, is a major draw card for lovers from across the world. Base yourself at the elegant Grand Hotel Europe, located off Nevsky Prospect in the heart of the city. With beautifully appointed rooms and suites, and a clientele that demands the highest-quality service, this remains the city’s grand dame house of slumber. First stop should be the Hermitage Museum, located at the Winter Palace. The city’s top attraction, the palace museum showcases more then three million items, including works by Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Michelangelo and more. Lovers will also enjoy visiting the Church of the Saviour, a traditional Russian styled church built on the spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881. Another famous landmark worth checking out is the Church of the Assumption of Mary, located on Vasilievsky Island. As the sun drops, dress in your finery and head to a night at the opera at the famed Mariinsky Theatre before enjoying this historic city on one of
the popular evening canal rides that pass the Peter and Paul Fortress, vodka and caviar included.
Bangkok One of Asia’s most thriving, pulsating and invigorating cities, Bangkok is a journey as much for the senses as it is for the soul. Boasting everything from boutique hotels and world-class restaurants to ancient temples and bustling floating markets, the city constantly has one foot in the past and the other in modernity, making it ideal for honeymoons or romantic weekend escapes. Check into the city’s newest boutique hideaway, The Siam, a luxurious riverside hotel created by local Thai celebrity Krissada “Noi” Sukosol Clapp that opens in June. From the river, hail one of the city’s bumblebee-like tuktuks and head for Wat Pho, home to the iconic Reclining Buddha, a 15-metre-high and 43-metre- long gold-covered Buddha statue. To satisfy your taste buds, there’s no better place than the Chatuchak Weekend Market, Thailand’s largest and a treasure trove for shoppers and amateur photographers. Known simply as JJ after its Thai name, Jatujak, Chatuchak covers
an area of 27 acres – about the same as 30 football pitches – and is home to a whopping 15,000 stalls. Finish up with cocktails and dinner at one of Asia’s most unforgettable hot spots, Sky Bar at Sirocco, the world’s highest truly al fresco restaurant. This lofty perch offers 270-degree views of the Chao Phraya River and the cityscape, with some of the city’s hottest cocktails – if you’re looking for a place to make a good impression, this is it!
Cape Town A city that has reinvented itself, Cape Town is increasingly popular as a gateway for safaris, an ideal honeymoon adventure, so don’t be surprised if you’re not the only lovers in town. With the city’s main focus on its iconic Table Mountain and the Victoria and Albert Waterfront, check in at the luxurious One & Only Cape Town, which is located right on the vibrant quayside. Set off on foot and explore Bo-Kaap, the colourful neighbourhood inhabited mainly by the decedents of Muslim slaves from Southeast Asia. Here you’ll find tiny mosques, brilliant cafes and colourful streets overlooking the city. Couples will also enjoy a stroll through the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which boast a huge diversity of plants and flowers from across Africa. Take a ferry over to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. The island is now home to large colonies of African penguins. Alternatively take a trip up to the top of Table Mountain by cable car and snap a few iconic photos of the city from this vertiginous vista. Finish your day with shark feeding at the Two Oceans Aquarium before diner at one of the seafood restaurants at the bustling Victoria and Albert Waterfront.

Heaven Can Wait Natural yet stylish. Secluded yet welcoming. Immerse yourself in the private and exclusive world ofShinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection, where heaven can wait. Text by Melani Semuel | Photos courtesy of Shinta Mani Angkor – BensleyCollection
t was my partner and I first trip ever to Cambodia, and we were excited to explore Siam Reap and even more excited to stay at one of the ‘Bensley Collection.’ “First impressions count.” That saying is indeed true when it comes to Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection. On arrival at SiemReap’s International airport, we were fast-tracked through immigration and whisked away to the secluded entrance of the villas. A hotel within a hotel, Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection comprises of ten exquisite two-level 156 sqm villas in the cultural heart of the historic royal town of Siem Reap and offers an indulgent experience. In collaboration with acclaimed designer Bill Bensley, Shinta Mani Hotels ‘Bensley Collection’, is an exclusive portfolio of sophisticated resorts showcasing visionary concepts, extraordinary design, and bespoke service – the very essence of ‘Bensley Collection.’ Entering the villa feels like entering a world of our own and, it is impossible not to be impressed by the first glimpse of the villa. Under the ancient canopy of SiemReap’s Palace trees, each villa offers its residents privacy and ultimate extravagance, complete with their own Bill Bensley lush tropical garden that literally brings the outside in. From its dramatic high walled façade with a monumental scale three-dimensional carving portraying the ‘hands of meditation” to signify spiritual perfection, to the oversized 9 meter personal lap pool and gardens with a rooftop living room, the 10 ultra-chic, luxurious two level Khmer inspired villas will delight, surprise and inspire you as you luxuriate in the Khmer Kingdom of your own.
When we saw the villa, we were in awe. It was spacious across two pavilions including a floor to ceiling glass bathroom with views over the garden and the outdoor bath. Inside the living space, over-sized three-dimensional murals have been carved to portray the rippling folds of Jayavarman’s robe – one of the Khmer Kings who reigned from 1181-1218 and was known for his powerful, pioneering spirit - the perfect complement to such incredible surroundings. The atmosphere of the villa is that of a secluded paradise, a veritable Eden. In creating his collection, Bensley assumed complete freedom to let his creative spirit run free and showcase his skill in crafting pioneering experiences with his legendary brilliance. He designed the villas as where he likes to live; surrounded by lush private gardens. Knowing the importance of sleep, Bill created the fluffiest most comfortable beds imaginable in a room that totally blacks out. Bill personally oversaw every detail of design and service to ensure an innovative type of indulgence he calls ‘escapism’ (also the title of his book) and one that guests will long remember and want to experience again and again. One of the things that stood out during our stay was the excellent service of the Bensley Butlers. During our stay, we were well taken care of by the same butler, Peter. Peter was on hand to cater to our every need. No detail was overlooked, and no request was too much trouble to ensure that we had the most pleasant and memorable stay of our lives. From unpacking our luggage to putting on the movie, Peter took care of every detail. We literarily didn’t have to lift a finger. I’ve been in lots of resorts and villas with butler service, but I have never experienced the level of service offered at Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection.

While most butlers are there to cater to your needs, the butlers at Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection are there to anticipate your needs. During our stay, we literary did not need to ask for anything, as everything had already been provided. It was almost like Peter could read our minds. The night before we went to Angkor Wat, Peter informed us to have a rather heavy breakfast as we had to walk a lot and need all the energy. It was a hot day when we explored Angkor Wat, my partner and I forgot to bring our hats, and Peter bought us both a hat. In one of the spots, we had to climb up steep stairs and wearing hats was not allowed, Peter held our hats and drinks so we could climb up more easily. The service here is undoubtedly without peer, and the unexpected personalised touches make Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection stand out. One will never get hungry staying at Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection. My absolute private restaurant is Kroya which means “food” in Khmer, Shinta Mani’s heritage inspires this unique restaurant. Kroya offers blends of international as well as local products, combining fresh ingredients, native herbs and spices to create innovative, palette pleasing flavours. Looking at Kroya’s menu, you do not need to ask what the recommendation is, as every single dish in here is just delicious. The executive chef Reza Kurniawan prepared a simple menu that is full of flavours. During our stay here, we had so much fun trying on dishes which never once failed us. While dining here, make sure you try the Tiramisu which is the best I have ever had in my life, delicious is an understatement when describing it. Curious about Khmer culinary, we tried the authentic taste of traditional cuisine with Kroya’s 7 set Khmer Tasting Menu which follows the seasons and the local harvest. This set menu is very recommended; each dish is simply delicious. It is evident that both presentation and taste play an essential part here at Kroya. Still curious about Khmer food and the fact that my partner wants me to learn how to cook, the next day, the chef took us to a traditional market which is very interesting. So many fresh meats and seafood were sold here. The market is very vibrant, and we had fun learning about local produce, herbs, and spices that we have never known before. We saw things that we have never seen before, going to the traditional market is
13 0
such an eye opener to see a glimpse of life of the local people. After a trip to the market, we went back to the hotel and its time for our cooking class. A typical meal of traditional Khmer cuisine consists of a soup, salad, fish course, meat dish, vegetables, and rice. So we learnt how to cook mango salad, fish amok, sour beef soup and sticky rice dumplings. The chefs were outstanding at teaching us (especially me) how to cook that even for someone who very rarely cooks, like me, I found the cooking class very interesting. Once, the dishes were ready, we then eat them for lunch and enjoyed our own Khmer cuisine. The Shinta Mani Spa is a haven of refuge; it is all about pampering yourself and letting your body, mind, and soul be refresh, and rejuvenate. The therapeutic treatments are based on traditional and modern healing rituals to boost concentration and awareness while reducing stress, and helping you to attain the ultimate balance. The spa has a comprehensive menu to choose from; we tried the Shinta Mani Spa Signature Massage, my treatment room is very spacious and cozy. The
treatment started with a foot bath ritual, and then we moved to the massage bed. This 90-minute treatment combines a selection of four aromatic body oils, relaxing, detoxification, contouring, and energizing oil. I surrendered to the skillful hands of my therapist as she used various special techniques to alleviate pain, reduce discomfort and promote relaxation. The massage was so good that I fell asleep. With every stroke, my mind drifted into the utter sense of relaxation, the next thing I realized was when the therapist asked me to lay on my back. I don’t know about you, but I usually feel hungry after a spa treatment, so the fresh spring roll that my therapist served with the tea made me happy. Both my partner and I have never felt so relaxed after a treatment. So I decided to book us another treatment for the next day. And this time I chose the Traditional Khmer Massage. The next day, we went back to the spa eager for our massages. The Traditional Khmer Massage is an ancient Khmer art of healing that involves applying gentle finger pressure to the body, to reduce the tension in the tired muscle and promotes
general well-being. This massage is a little bit stronger than the previous one which is perfect for my partner and I as we were so tired and some of my muscles were stiff. I have to say that a stay at Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection is not complete without a relaxing and pampering time at The Shinta Mani Spa. Suffice it to say; we had a super time at Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection. The experience far exceeded all our expectations. The villa, the food, the spa and the service were all spectacular. We have to say that staying there was one of the best experiences we have ever had. You get a taste of paradise when you stay at The Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection. It is so perfect that heaven can wait.

A Little Slice of Heaven Have you ever dreamt of spending your honeymoon in a paradise where the water is as blue as the sky and the beach is as white as the clouds? Dream no more. Paradise awaits at KARMA KANDARA. Text by Melani Semuel | Photos courtesy of Karma Kandara Resort
After soaking in the sun, sand and sea, we retreated to our villa, which featured two pavilions with traditional alang-alang roofs, wood tiles, an infinity pool and garden courtyard complete with timber deck. With their lofty roofs, the open-plan living pavilions boast an airy, expansive feel, and comprise a lounge, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The two bedrooms are located in one pavilion, with the second-floor master bedroom equipped with its own en-suite bathroom. On the first floor is another bedroom with a glass door that overlooks the manicured garden and pool.

grass roof and bamboo platform. Karma Beach Bali’s natural attributes alone are hard to match - a crescent of white sand leads into the aquamarine waters of a tranquil lagoon that can be snorkeled or explored by kayak.
My partner and I had heard a lot about these famed views and couldn’t wait to experience them ourselves. Upon checking in, we headed straight for di Mare. Suspended 150 metres above the surf on a rocky outcrop, di Mare boasts an undisturbed view of the ocean. We were blown away by the amazing seemingly limitless vista of ocean and sky, 180 degrees of blue on blue brilliance. It was truly breathtaking, looking out over the vast stretch of ocean that disappeared into the horizon, before our eyes returned to the captivating surf below and the brilliant white-sand beach.
The raised bamboo decking houses a kitchen, complete with a traditional wood-fired pizza oven, which I later discovered turned out some of the most delicious pizzas you could hope for. There was also a bar, stocked with top-shelf liquors, champagne and of course the obligatory ice-cold beer to help keep the tropical sun at bay. Two manicured lawns equipped with sun lounges, sitting on little bluffs above the sand, offer a cool spot for dining.
We could not resist the temptation and hopped into the inclinator, which took us down 85 metres of sheer limestone cliff to Karma Beach Bali - a pioneering beach club not only in Bali but across South East Asia. Styled after a whimsical folly on some Greek island in the Aegean, complete with
We lounged on one of the daybeds on the beach, soaking up the sun and drinking in the sparkling surroundings. It was absolutely beautiful, with the white sand and the clear blue water. The water was so inviting, and we could see some of the guests in the surf, swimming and splashing around, while others simply lay on the beach and soaked up the sun.
Karma Kandara features a wide choice of villas and accompanying amenities that redefine first class. Bridges, stone walkways and little paths meander through vivid tropical gardens connecting 61 expansive private villa residences consisting of one up to five bedrooms, each with its own private pool, along with the resort’s exceptional facilities. Anyone who visits Karma Kandara has to take the time to pamper themselves at Karma Spa, which clings gloriously to the cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, or the exquisite beachside treatment room just meters from the ocean. During the evening we indulged in a luxe treatment where we once again were in awe of the twilight ocean views, as the sea breeze blew gently through the open windows and cooled our bodies as the therapists worked their magic. After our treatments, we soaked in the Jacuzzi as our eyes feasted on the sublime beauty of this tropical paradise. Karma Kandara is the very essence of tropical honeymoon. The views here are undeniably breaktaking, with water as blue as the sky and sand as white as the beach. Enjoy your own slice of heaven at Karma Kandara. Karma Kandara Resort

was warm and humid, but our spirits were joyous because we were going to experience another luxurious adventure with Conrad. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, all designed to maximize the views of the resort, lagoons, gardens or beach from the veranda. Our room faces the ocean – a breathtaking view. Inside the room, we found contemporary Balinese artwork. The floors are light cream-coloured marble, the roof tiles are terracotta and
handrails are coconut timber. There is a huge door separating the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom is as large as the living room and bedroom, and includes a shower stall and bathtub large enough for a truly luxurious soak. Within the airy luxury living area, you can find all the modern comforts, including fast internet connection and satellite television channels. Who can sleep without a comfortable pillow? At Conrad, there’s a complete list of pillow options available to choose. The normal pillow in all rooms is the Medium Pillow made of Dacron. It ensures correct sleeping posture and helps prevent back as well as neck problems. Curious, we did some investigating and found out that a lot of Indonesians choose the Bolster Pillow, which is custom-made from Dacron Holofil. It is an additional support for another pillow, an extra comfort for lazy mornings. The Japanese love the Contour Pillow made of Latex. It is specially designed to gently cradle the neck and head, ideal for side sleepers. Lots of Europeans and Australians go for the Feather Bolster Pillow made of duck down. It is very comfortable. Conrad delivers maximum comfort for every guest, which is why it offers so many pillow choices, to ensure guests get the best night’s sleep possible. You will never go hungry staying here, Relax over the ultimate beachfront BBQ,
feel the sand beneath your toes and the sea breeze in your hair as you savour a sumptuous selection of fresh vegetables, seafood and locally-sourced meats. Set in the luxurious surroundings of the Conrad Suites, facing the pool, the atmosphere at RIN is calm and seductive. The restaurant is elegant and stunning, boasting indoor and outdoor dining areas, we have to say that during our stay, RIN was our favourite restaurant. The night was so beautiful and the sky so clear, we decided to dine al fresco. RIN serves a contemporary take on the authentic flavours of Japanese cuisine. RIN’s menu blends and combines the five basic tastes of sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. The dishes are very beautifully presented and the taste is simply full of flavours. Eight Degrees South is a romantic dining option for lovers. It has an absolute beachfront flavour. The open-air beachfront restaurant features Balinese thatched-roof bales, where couples can celebrate their love beneath the moonlight. These bales are like no other on the island. The sides of each bale are covered with glass partitions, protecting guests from the wind blowing off the ocean. This prevents the dining experience from being ruined by guests having to look after the foods and their napkins so they aren’t blown away. Or worse, if it started to rain. At Eight Degrees South, guests can enjoy a romantic dining adventure in complete comfort.

Eager to try some of the resort’s offerings, we headed to Jiwa Spa, where we had the signature Ocean Flow massage in one of the spa garden pavilions. The massage combines smooth, rhythmic strokes with firm acupressure akin to the movements of ocean waves. With each stroke, I was transferred to nirvana. After the treatment, I was surprised to find a

number of messages and missed calls on my mobile phone. They were all telling me about an earthquake in Bali, and asking whether we were okay. The massage was so good that I had no idea there had been an earthquake, because I was floating up in the clouds. Jiwa Spa also includes a reflexology centre and salon with a range of beauty services, including hair care, manicure and pedicure, and waxing. Luxurious and spacious, at Jiwa Spa every treatment room comes with a massage bed, a deepsoaking tub and shower cabinet. Set in an E shape, the 6.8 hectares of manicured gardens at Conrad Bali have stunning water features of approximately 9,500 square metres, including 4,000 square metres of swimming area with cascading waterfalls. The property is so fresh and blue, the lagoon swimming pool always attract people for a plunge. Conrad Bali Resort & Spa is as breathtaking as the deep blue ocean.

Yogya, I’m in Love We all need the occasional spark to reignite the passion in our relationships, and what better way to fan the flames of love than a romantic escape to some impossibly luxurious destination. So book your romantic getaway to Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta and take off on an unforgettable journey of love. Text by Melani Semuel | Photos courtesy of Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta
f I had to choose just one city in Indonesia for a romantic getaway, it would be Yogyakarta. Often called the “City of Art and Culture,” Yogyakarta is home to a stunning wealth of cultural and artistic treasures. There are magnificent temples, the ruins of palaces and monasteries, cultural events, art galleries, traditional performing arts and so much more. This is all part of the living culture of Yogyakarta, and colours the daily activities of the lives of its residents. Because of its cultural richness and rich heritage, Yogyakarta has long been known as the cradle of Javanese culture. I fell in love with the city the first time I set foot in it, and couldn’t think of a better destination when it came time to plan a romantic honeymoon.
sculptor and even batik artist, as well as some women and children bathing in the river. Some revolution fighters were watching the situation alertly with other children playing cheerfully. The whole scene was the representation of the peaceful life surrounding the Merapi Volcano. My personal favourite is the mosaic at the lobby (there is also an equally beautiful mosaic on the 8th floor). This handmade piece-by-piece masterpiece tells us the story about the natural life of people in Central Java - where a traditional market, women bathing in the river, ploughing the paddy field and Borobudur on the top left
– all living peacefully side by side. I love this colourful and vibrant mosaic. Occupying 60 square-metres, our junior suite offers ample space for the ultimate relaxation and comfort. Stylish furniture and furnishings, elegant fabrics and plush, premium pillow-top bedding and down feather pillows in addition to sophisticated design and colour palettes adorn the suite. I was very surprised when I found a birthday cake for me inside the suite, my birthday was a few days earlier and I didn’t think the hotel would notice. It was such a sweet and personalised touch from the hotel that make me feel very special.
We only wanted the best for this oncein-a-lifetime getaway, so we made a reservation at the Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta. The Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta is not just a 5-star hotel, it has a long history, once served as Yogyakarta royal palace and gardens, it is now offers a gateway to a grander era with architecture, charm and charisma befitting its regal heritage. Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta infuses authentic royal tradition, glamour and grace with 21st century modernity and sophistication. And we were ready for our royal treatment. As the former Royal Palace Residence and the witness of Indonesia’s independence day era, Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta is a living heritage hotel, showcasing an extraordinary collection of authentic Javanese architectural masterpieces from 18th century and artworks from the 1964s; all are well maintain at the hotel complex until today. Just as we walked into the lobby on the left-hand-side there’s a beautiful relief. In the relief, life on the slopes of Merapi Volcano is well shown. Merapi Volcano stands tall on the top, at the lower part of the relief many activities done in the fields and around the house are depicted; there is a crafter, blacksmith,

We went exploring inside the hotel and were very impressed with the facilities and learned more about the hotel’s history. On our way back to the suite, we stopped by Punika Deli for my favourite gelato, there were so many flavours to choose from, we ended up going back a few times during our stay. Our suite feltvery comfortable that instead of exploring the city, we decided to stay in and ordered room service for dinner. We were quite impressed with the in-room dining menu, there were so many choices to choose from, from local delicacies to asian flavour to International cuisines. One dish that immediately caught our eyes was the Beef Rendang Pizza, it was so interesting that we just had to give it a try. It tasted so good that we had to order more.

During our stay the Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta we were surprised by the romantic turndown service. For each night that we stayed at the hotel, we were treated with a tray of traditional sweets. Some sweets I know from my childhood but haven’t had any for ages until now, and some I have never tried before, we had fun eatingall the sweets. What we like the most was the beautiful modern presentation of the traditional sweets. We woke up early the next morning so we could watch the sunrise at Borobudur Temple, a magnificent sight that is worth tearing ourselves away from the hotel’s gloriously comfortable beds. It was still dark when we arrived at Borobudur and began the steep climb to the top of the
temple. Breathless, we waited for the sun to begin its journey, breaking free of the horizon to climb across the morning sky in a breathtaking display of golds and yellows. Yogyakarta has long been known as the cradle of Javanese culture, and Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta offers an array of interesting activities for you and your loved one, from Kaliurang Tour ala Madam and the Meneer Tour to Wish Upon a Tree at Alun-Alun Kidul, where you walk through a grove of sacred trees with your eyes closed while wishing your dreams will come true. It is believed that if you can make it through the trees without running into them, your wishes will indeed come true.
The next day, we explored Yogyakarta. We took a trip to the mystical Mount Merapi then visited the famous Malioboro Street, where we had fun exploring the different offerings while being greeted with friendly smiles wherever we turned. From the famous gudeg to the sweet treat of bakpia, there are so many traditional foods to savour that you can be certain you will never go hungry in Yogyakarta. To experience some of the favourite dishes of the royal family, head to Bale Raos. Located near the Kraton, the Sultan’s Palace, the restaurant offers a selection of traditional dishes, complete with notes about which member of the royal family likes which dishes.
We also dropped in at my favourite Jejamuran restaurant, a vegetarian establishment where all the dishes are based on different types of jamur (mushrooms). I always come to this restaurant whenever I am in town, at first I couldn’t believe all the dishes were made with mushrooms, they were so delicious and filling, and tasted like real meat. It was definitely a unique experience and something you don’t want to miss when you are in Yogyakarta. We also visited House of Raminten, and as soon as we entered I know this was no ordinary restaurant. But you will just have to visit the restaurant yourself to experience its unique flair.
Time certainly flies when you are having fun. We had a romantic escape in Yogyakarta. We love the city, and the Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta is the best place to stay and explore everything Yogyakarta has to offer. There are so many things to do and to experience, but best of all is spending precious time with your loved one. We are definitely coming back, because Yogya, I’m in love.

ogyakarta, a city with numerous hotels ranging from budget to luxury, there are so many to choose from. Unless you are looking for a truly boutique hotel, a hotel that provides a unique concept, high level of privacy and exceptional services. That was difficult to find, but not anymore with the opening of Sofia Boutique Residence. Yogyakarta is one of our favourite destinations and we have been staying at many hotels in the city, but when we stepped into our room at Sofia Boutique Residence both my partner and I were amazed. The room is so luxurious and spacious. Our room interior is a combination between dark grey and gold, it is so elegant. Later did we find out that every room in each floor has different colour scheme. Our surpise didn’t end at the bedroom as the bathroom is even better with its Hollywood bling interior décor. I love the gold ornaments in the bathroom, it really took the luxurious feeling to another level. Speaking about luxurious, Sofia Boutique Residence is the only hotel in Yogyakarta that we have stayed in that uses Bulgari as its amenities. So if you are looking for the best hotel in Yogyakarta, you have to stay at Sofia Boutique Residence.

‘Sex,Love & Commitment
Spice Up Your Sex Life It’s been quite a while since that first month of marital bliss. The passion and desire of those long honeymoon nights seems to have fizzled out as time has passed and life has intruded. While you’re wondering where the flame has gone, social scientists are also busy at work studying the increasing phenomenon of sexless marriages to find clues to what can go wrong in a relationship. So, if you starting to feel like there’s no spark in your marriage, it’s time to put the sex back into it. The first month of marriage is the sweetest; there’s nothing but tenderness and pleasure,’ an old proverb says. How true a description that is for newlyweds. After the wedding bell tolls, they are off on a honeymoon journey to celebrate marriage in intimacy and seclusion, whether to some exotic island or a rustic seaside cottage. All they need is each other and a little imagination.
When Sex Leaves the Marriage However, as married life goes by, many couples stop viewing sex as an important part of the relationship. According to data from the General Social Survey, which has tracked the social behaviours of Americans since 1972, married men and women, on average, have sex with their spouse 58 times a year, or a little more than once a week. And it’s estimated that about 15 per cent of married couples have not had sex with their spouse in the last six months to a year. There are many factors behind a sexless, or less-sex, marriage. Back in the days before reliable contraception was invented, a sexless marriage was one way of limiting family size. For couples today, things like childbirth and the demands of raising a family and establishing a career have made sex slow or even stop. Despite this trend, many couples seem undisturbed that the sex has left their marriage, perhaps failing to see it as a signal that the intimacy is fading from the relationship. A sexual relationship is very important for couples under 40 years of age, for older couples shows affection through hugs and kisses is just as necessary. Intercourse is needed in married life as long as you both are healthy, physically and mentally. 15 2
So, before your marriage becomes permanently sexless, take action and spice things up. Learning to fantasize could be one way to build intimacy, just as when you were still honeymooners …
Learning to Fantasize Sex generally starts in the brain. So, an active imagination means you’re ready for sex before anything physical has happened, heightening desire and making arousal much quicker. Evidence suggests that those who fantasize the most are in happy, loving, trusting relationships, as an active fantasy life can add novelty to a longstanding sexual relationship. When you’re fantasizing, your mind explores places the body has no intention of visiting, and that builds excitement. The most common male fantasies include being dominant or being passive and submissive, watching others make love, trying new sexual positions and reliving a previous experience. The most common female fantasies include romantic or exotic locations, being found irresistible and doing something forbidden. If you don’t find sexual fantasy comes easily, you can learn. Try exploring bookshops for erotic books and magazines available to suit any taste. Couples should not hesitate to try a variety of sexual positions. Indeed, sex is only one form of intimacy and there’s no ideal level of sexual activity, but many experts have found a correlation between happiness and having sex. So, if you feel it’s worth the effort to put the sex back into your relationship, just put your mind to it for a more fulfilling marriage.
Let the mind wander. Here are a few tricks to stimulate arousal and turn up the bedroom heat: 1. Don’t rush to get naked. It’s true you’re married and your husband knows what he’s getting, but he wants nothing more than to watch you unveil the goods, slowly and sensually while you’re doing a sexy striptease. This can put you both in a deliciously amorous mood. 2. Slip a surprise. When was the last time you excused yourself to powder your nose at a restaurant and returned without your underwear? Stick them in your purse and then discreetly slip them into his pocket under the table. Almost 100 per cent of guys say the no-panties-in-public move is a major turn-on. 3. Try a thinly veiled treat. You may never get a chance to wear your wedding gown again, but your veil is another story. Pack it in your suitcase with a pair of sexy, sky-high white heels, then put them both on … and nothing else. 4. Play with the mercury. Heat is hot, but ice is pretty nice, too. Slipping a little of both into your oral repertoire can be deliciously naughty. Have a steamy mug of warm water nearby, as well as a frosty glass of ice water. Take a sip of the warm one first, move it around your mouth and swallow just before heading south. Allow him to enjoy that sensation for a while, then repeat with the cold water.
