Opportunities for prosperous careers in construction are abundant and if you have the right attitude and you’re willing to put in the hard work, you’ll reap the benefits of a long, fulfilling career.
A MESSAGE FROM CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, MICHAEL HOPKINS
CEO Message: Training Opportunities are in Abundance and Skills are in Demand Every year I’m amazed to see the tremendous progress we make in the building and construction industry. There are more courses available to grow your skills, there’s more effective safety equipment, public perception of the stereotypical ‘tradie’ is shifting, and industry members are more vocal than ever about wanting more women on the tools and greater diversity in our industry. Opportunities for prosperous careers in construction are abundant and if you have the right attitude and you’re willing to put in the hard work, you’ll reap the benefits of a long, fulfilling career. MBA Group Training has grown and changed to meet the demands of the industry, including the acquisition of Southern Training Organisation (STO). Following feedback in the most recent member survey, we also introduced new mental health training courses in collaboration with OzHelp. Our Carpentry Training team are working to deliver updated training material that suits the skills needed onsite. We introduce the 2022 Carpentry Training team on pages 37-39, with their backgrounds showing the varied opportunities available in the construction industry. MBA Australia reports that the construction industry has the highest number of apprentices in training in the ACT at 30.3%. This year we’ve launched a brand-new program called M.A.T.E (Mentoring Apprentices Towards Excellence), which is designed to help retain apprentices by connecting them with industry leaders who are willing to share their knowledge. We want to ensure that every person that commences training with us can see the different directions a career in construction can take them. You can find out more about the program on page 35.
The JobTrainer Women in Trades program is designed to get more women considering a career in construction.
The Women in Civil program is continuing to create pathways for more women to join the civil construction sector. The JobTrainer Women in Trades program is designed to get more women considering a career in construction. There’s more information about these programs on page 31. We want to continue working with members of the construction industry to help train new apprentices, upskill current industry members and continue to grow the number of people employed in construction.
