FROM THE CLUB FROM DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS Dear Members,

It’s been just a little over a year since the first reported cases of COVID-19 were reported in the United States. Who could have imagined all that it would entail from the shutting down of states, wearing face coverings, closures of schools, curfews, to-go food only, working from home, quarantining, and getting tested. It has been an extremely long year to say the least. None the less, if you are reading this, you most likely have endured through the pandemic to this point. We really need to learn from the positives that have come from this and build on those while continuing to be proactive in keeping our members, guests, and staff safe. Throughout this pandemic, the Grande Dunes Members Club has continued to be a place where members and staff can feel safe and welcome. In 2021, we are looking forward to continued membership growth. We welcomed over 100 new members in 2020 and are off to a great start for 2021. Our success has been, in large part, due to our members promoting the Club. Membership growth will continue to be our focus and if you know of anyone who may be interested in joining, please reach out to Membership Director, Pamela Evans, for more information. Over the past number of weeks we started experiencing a number of battery issues within our current fleet of golf carts. After numerous visits and testing of the current fleet, it became apparent that ending our current lease and beginning a new one would be necessary. Unfortunately, our new cart fleet is not scheduled to be delivered until sometime in April. However, in the meantime, Club Car will continue to monitor and repair any of our current carts that are having battery issues. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to rectify the situation. The rainfall, throughout the month of February, has been incredible. I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that it has been record-breaking. Our positive momentum in the number of golf rounds played came to a screeching halt. However, spring is almost here and by the time you read this newsletter I hope that the February rains are a distant memory. Our annual Golf Tournament Schedule really jump starts in March as we have our Season Opening Scramble, One Day Member/Member, as well as the start of our Thursday Night and Couples events. We look forward to greater participation than in years’ past and hope that you will join us. Please see Joe’s article in this newsletter as to formats, price, etc. March and April are also busy months throughout the Club as we strive to create a variety of offerings. We will continue to welcome our Trivia and Family Feud events that are becoming increasingly popular. We have a Grapenight event in both March and April. And please don’t forget that Easter comes early this year, April 4th. We will host our ever-popular Easter with the Bunny on Saturday, April 3rd and Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 4th. Please make certain to go to the Members Club Calendar to reserve your table for each of these events. Lastly, I would like to recognize our Employee of the Year for 2020, Ronnie Russ. Ronnie is our mechanic that keeps all of our golf course equipment in working order. Ronnie has been with the Grande Dunes Members Club for a little over two years but has had a major impact on the Club’s operation. Ronnie continues to make significant contributions that are beyond the normal job expectations. There aren’t enough good things that can be said about Ronnie and I cannot thank him enough for the job he continues to do. We have a great Membership and an extremely dedicated group of professionals working at Grande Dunes Members Club. I am very excited for what 2021 has to bring our Club and its members. Please reach out to me anytime with questions to Brian.Vest@GrandeDunes.com. Sincerely, Brian Vest

MEMBERSHIP A NOTE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR Hooray! Give yourselves a big high five!!! You guys have been awesome in helping us grow the membership here at YOUR Members Club. We had over 120 new members in 2020. 2021 started with a big bang with over 45+, these numbers include upgrades. We truly appreciate your support. It's really been exciting to see our members enjoying all the fun events at the clubhouse. If you see a new face, please stop by and introduce yourselves and make everyone feel like this is their home away from home. We will continue to have membership incentive programs throughout the year, so please continue to refer your friends and neighbors. I also want to thank all the Managers and staff here at the Members Club. They have done a phenomenal job in service and in food. The Golf staff have been very attentive to all our members and guests and I am hearing fantastic things about the course . You, the staff and managers are what makes our Club a great success. On another note, I am asking you to update your profile on the website. If you have moved, changed your email or phone number you may make this change online. If your birthday is missing or your anniversaries please add those as well. We have lots of planned surprises coming to help you celebrate. We would really appreciate helping us to keep your profile up to date. If I sound like I'm enjoying myself, it's not artificial. It's real. Pamela Evans, Membership Director I pevans@grandedunes.com

THE ANCOR CAFE Spring 2021 is here and the Anchor Café will open soon! It has been a tough year for us all, and we are excited to see all of your smiling faces this season. We will be following proper recommended Covid-19 protocol for the safety of our guests and staff. We ask that you wear your mask unless seated at your table. You might notice a few changes at the Anchor Café this season. New furniture, fresh paint and a beautiful Octopus mural that surrounds the walls, among other surprises. Chef Mike Marques has selected all of your Anchor Favorites for the menu. The Salmon BLT is back and pairs perfectly with a cold glass of La Crema Pinot Gris. The full menu is available at Grandedunes.com Please feel free to contact me with any questions . Virginia.hitchcock@grandedunes.com 843-913-1341

MC FOOD & BEVERAGES HAPPENINGS Dear Valued Members, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you. As our membership has grown by leaps and bounds, I can positively report that member activity is on the rise as well! This includes our Club Events like Grape Nights and our Super Bowl Party. These events were wonderfully attended and received very well. My thanks go out to Vasilika on planning these events and knowing our membership so well that we are able to not only meet, but exceed our members’ expectation.

Our success is not limited to just our events. The amount of daily activity we have seen in the club house, especially during some very rainy and dreary days, has been wonderful to see. The work that Chef Mike Marques has made on our Daily Menu is tangible as we see more and more activity in our lunch and dinner services. While talking about our dinner services, the Friday nights with music and dinner service have really taken off. Participation in the Ocean Club Happy Hour program has been on the rise as well. Chef Tanaka has been able to create some great Tapas, along with some entrée options as well. With the addition of our new leader, Elise Bryant, I am hopeful that that building will become a gathering center for all of Grande Dunes. With the weather about to make a turn for the better, I know that the Anchor Café is on the minds of many of our members. We look forward to opening in the coming months after doing a complete facelift, and I look forward to having Virginia captain that ship. TEE IT UP

GOLF NEWS A NOTE FROM YOUR HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL As we roll into the spring, we are hoping the wettest days are behind us. February was one of the wettest months on record in Myrtle Beach. Yearly, we average about 26 inches of rain, this past month we saw over 8 inches fall on the golf course. This eclipse the 1982 record for rain fall in a single February. With that, the golf course has taking a beating, forcing us to close for several days on end, only to be open for one day before more rain. Thank goodness for our new bunkers! As the weather continues to improve and we start to practice more, remember this acronym- P.G.A.: Posture Grip Alignment These three things are the foundation of the golf swing. All three work together to ensure that you deliver the golf club in the most efficient way possible. Good posture helps prevent common flaws that we see in the golf swing. A couple keys to good posture are: Keep you chin off your chest, bend from your hips so your arms hang straight down from your shoulders and hands are about a hand’s width away from your pelvis, and a micro-bend in your knees. Your grip can say a lot about the way you send the ball. If your grip is too weak and you cannot create enough leverage with your wrists and you will send the ball too the right. Remember that your alignment should be parallel left to your target. Your body should never be pointing directly to your target, this will cause you to swing too far left and try to hold the face open and will cause you to slice the ball. Sincerely, Joe De Maio, Head Golf Professional Upcoming Golf Events: With February in our rearview mirror, we open our tournament season with our 2-Person Season Opening Scramble on March 6th. Followed by the first Thursday Night Shootout of the season on March 11th. Our yearly Spring One Day Member/Member is on the slate for March 13th, this will be our third event in one week. As we start to condition ourselves to tournament golf, we close out the month with the first Couple’s Golf Event on March 28th.

This year the Couple’s Golf Events and Thursday Night Shootouts will bring an added twist. Both Event Series will feature a new points system that rewards placing in the Top 30% of the field, as well as points for playing. Each Series will have associated Championships to crown this year’s winners. The Couple’s Club Championship will the crowning jewel for the Couple’s Golf Event Series, meanwhile, the Thursday Night Shootout Championship will be on September 16th. Both will take part of your entry fee from each event and put it towards the Championship Prize pool. The respected winners of each Championship will receive the bonus! Come April, we will be swinging into golf’s Major Season. Starting with our Grande Dunes Master’s Par 3 Tournament on April 7th and our Master’s Championship on Saturday, April 10th. Our second Couple’s Golf Event will be held on Sunday, April 18th. The Master’s is not the only Major tournament of the month, our first Major is the Men’s Spring Invitational on Friday, April 23rd and Saturday, April 24th. The Spring Invitational will be the third event in three weeks as we prime ourselves for a summer filled with fun and competitive golf events! All of our upcoming events and their formats can be seen on the Member’s Club Calendar. Opportunity to Upgrade Your Gamers: We will have several days over the course of the next two months to get fit for new golf clubs. March 12th, our friends as Callaway Golf will be here with their whole new line of clubs and get you fit into their latest models. Additionally, we will be hosting TaylorMade twice this Spring (Thursday, March 25th and April 29th). New this year, True Spec Golf will bring their mobile fitting program out to the club for an entire week in April (Tuesday, April 20th through Friday, April 23rd). Their unique systems allow you to try every major manufacturer in one place. Visit the Members Club Calendar on our club’s website for full details and registration information.

FROM THE GREEN Play begins to increase as the turf begins to transition out of winter dormancy. It’s almost as if the membership begins to emerge from dormancy as well. As the play increases so does the traffic and most importantly traffic patterns start to become apparent. Each and every golf course has to deal with traffic control issues. Obviously, more play equals more traffic and more traffic equates to more compaction. Compaction is a major deterrent to healthy turf. As you can imagine this is a serious issue at municipal, public and resort courses as they typically deal with more play than private courses do. Here at the Members Club we are fortunate to have less play than our public counterparts. In the past we have accommodated around 17,000 rounds of golf per year. On average, public facilities located in and around the Myrtle Beach area host upwards of 45,000 rounds of golf a year. We entertain approximately a third of the play, the benefits of this are numerous. Unfortunately, we sustain very similar traffic related damage. Some of this damage is self-inflicted, we often allow for play when conditions may not be suitable. These concessions are made because we do not have a continuous cart path. Courses having continuous paths will not and do not make these types of concessions. These allowances are made as the only alternative is to walk. A major focus for our team is traffic control. We constantly and consistently move traffic stakes to help minimize compaction and wear related damage. We understand that due to our lack of cart path this becomes a necessary evil. We address the traffic concerns for our own staff weekly in effort to minimize the staff’s self-inflicted damage. To be honest we are not always successful in this effort, but not for a lack of effort. We also understand that certain areas are going to see more traffic than others. However, we are finding it increasingly necessary to stake or rope off areas up and around the greens, on par 3’s, along the bunkers, between greens and bunkers, around tee boxes, between ornamental beds and through native grasses. The result of traffic is compaction. Compaction leads to damaged or dead turf. Damaged turf leads to more and more traffic control stakes. Traffic control stakes, although necessary, don’t always fit well with the private club atmosphere. But if left to choose between stakes and dead turf we will always choose the stakes. All we can do is attempt to give the best possible daily conditions and ask for your help towards that goal. Please be mindful of where you drive your golf cart. Please remind your guests and fellow members of our efforts to reduce traffic in key areas. Carts should never be driven on or around the greens. This should also hold true for tees and the practice tee. Please help us control traffic and provide you with a facility that we can all be proud of. Thanks in advance for your help and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely, Ryan Gamble Golf Course Superintendent, Grande Dunes Members Club ryan.gamble@grandedunes.com 843-903-3484

FROM THE KITCHEN COOKIES OF THE MONTH

MARCH

APRIL

KENTUCKY DERBY PIE COOKIES

CRUNCHY CHEWY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES Ingredients 8oz. Unsalted Butter, at room temperature 1 ¼ Cups Granulated Sugar 2/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar 1 Egg 1/2 TSP Vanilla Extract 1 ½ Cups All Purpose Flour 1/2 TSP Baking Powder 1/2 TSP Baking Soda 1 ½ TSP Kosher Salt 3 Cups Cornflake Crunch (below) 2/3 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips 1 ¼ Cups Mini Marshmallows Instructions 1. Using a Paddle on your Stand Mixer, combine the butter and sugars in the bowl and cream together on medium-high for 2 to 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, add the egg and vanilla, and beat for an additional 7 to 8 minutes. 2. Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until the dough comes together, no longer than 1 minute. (Do not walk away from the machine during this step, or you will risk over-mixing the dough.) Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. 3. Still on low speed, paddle in the cornflake crunch and mini chocolate chips just until they’re incorporated, no more than 30 to 45 seconds. Paddle in the mini marshmallows just until incorporated. 4. Scoop and roll 1 ½ oz. dough balls and place onto a parchmentlined sheet pan. Pat the tops of the cookie dough domes flat. Wrap the sheet pan tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 1 week. Do not bake your cookies from room temperature—they will not hold their shape. 5. Heat the oven to 350°F. 6. Arrange the chilled dough a minimum of 3 inches apart on parchment lined sheet pans. Bake for 14 minutes. The cookies will puff, crackle, and spread. At the 12-minute mark, the cookies should be browned on the edges and just beginning to brown toward the center. If they still seem pale and doughy on the surface, leave them in the oven for an additional minute or so. 7. Cool the cookies completely on the sheet pans before transferring to a plate or to an airtight container for storage. At room temperature, the cookies will keep fresh for 5 days; in the freezer, they will keep for 1 month.
