Play golf in your mind from tee to green Many pin locations at ProvidenceCountryClubrequireyoutoattacktheflagfromthecorrect location in the fairway. The back right pin on #15 for example is no fun from the right rough, or even the right side of the fairway The best chance to attack this pin is from the far left side of the fairway Many timesgolfershitteeshotswithnothoughtinmind.Thisphilosophyonly works if you are hitting all your fairways Put an emphasis on hitting certain parts of the fairway based on where the pin locations are You’ll rarely hit it close to the back right pin on #5 from the right rough Next time the pin is back right on 5, try to hit your tee ball up the left side of the fairway as it will open up the pin for a better look at birdie See if playing the golf course backwards begins to lower your scores, or at minimumgiveyoumorechancestogoflaghunting. Golf Course Update
With2022behindus,I’mexcitedtolookforwardtowhat2023hasinstoreforushereatProvidence
Some big ticket items were crossed off the list over the past two months, and we can now hit the reset button and prepare for the new year. We were able to apply our big pre-emergence/post-emergence herbicide spray back in November This set us up for a clean golf course through the fall, winter, and into spring We were also able to finally tidy up the course and get all the leaves cleaned up Having these things behindushasallowedustoconcentrateonotherthingstogetreadyforthe2023growingseason.
Wintertimepresentsagoodopportunitytodosometreeworkthatwemaynothavetimetocompleteduringtherushofthegrowingseason Trees that we are dead, present a hazard, or trees that compromise turf health are things we look for during the growing season so we know what to address during the winter months when there is time This year we have quite a few dead trees to remove, all of which were marked withgreenribbonbeforetheleavesstartedtofall.
Plant health is at an all-time high on all playing surfaces We have corrected some soil issues and implemented different fertilization practices over the past few years. These changes are starting to pay off. I am excited to implement my own Pesticide Plan for 2023. After dealing with recurringdiseases,Iwillbeutilizingnewfungicidechemistriesformorethoroughprotectiontohelpkeepthemajorsoilsdiseasesuppressed Wewillcontinuetofollowasimplistic,no-nonsenseapproachtomaximizeplanthealththroughthegrowingseasonandyearround
We will have our spring pre-emergence herbicide/fertilizer bulk spread application take place near the end of January We have used this timing for the past three years and it has been very successful at keeping us clean and weed-free We go this early for two reasons One reasonis:it’sdoneandoverwith. However, themainreasonissothatthematerialisthere, intheground, forwhenevertheplantsarereadyto start waking up This may happen with a warm spell in February, or an early spring green-up Regardless, we will be ready for whatever the weatherthrowsatus.

14 February Cookie of the Month OatmealRaisinCookieRecipe BYBRANDONMULLIS,EXECUTIVECHEFATPROVIDENCECC My grandma, Betty Collins, was a cafeteria lady for most of her career She worked at Matthews Elementary School in the 1980s and 1990s. Her kitchen counter was always filled with sweets she’d bake at home in her free time. Cinnamon rolls, chocolate cream pies, crumbly apple pies, and my favorite, her oatmeal raisin cookies Every time we’d go to visit her, she’d always have these cookiesaswellascartonsofchocolatemilkformefromtheschool. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Form dough balls measuring roughly 1½ Tablespoons.
