OUR CENTRE FOR ARTS & DESIGN Balmoral Hall is embarking on a transformational project to create spaces that will strengthen our learning community. Overlooking the Assiniboine River, adjacent to Sifton Family Theatre and the boarding house, our Centre for Arts & Design will be a hub for the next generation of international artists, communicators, and changemakers. With construction beginning as early as 2017, the centre will become a prominent, inspiring site for student collaboration on campus, providing: 3 flexible spaces for visual arts, performing arts, dance, music, digital music and video production 3 opportunities for 3D modelling, fashion, robotics, and virtual reality to intersect 3 learning commons where lifelong connections will be forged 3 vibrant spaces to showcase student work
Built today. Designed for the future.
THE ROLE OF ARTS & DESIGN An innovative workforce is the key to a strengthened economy. At Balmoral Hall, we inspire girls to blaze a trail and be pioneers by developing STEAM skills. This is much more than a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. To ensure creativity is valued, arts are integrated into core subjects. Research shows that arts enhance critical thinking, problem solving, memory systems, and analytical skills – all crucial for achieving success. Early integration of the arts in education will transform our world just as science and technology did in the last century.
Artists and designers will drive innovation.
A PROUD TRADITION The success of Balmoral Hall graduates reminds us every day that an investment in girls is a good investment in our future. In the past 5 years, members of the BH family have donated more than $3.3 million to resources, programming, facilities upgrades, and endowment growth. Balmoral Hall does not receive government funding for capital projects. To ensure the construction of our Centre for Arts & Design, we must rely on the generosity of our school community.
OUR $3 MILLION GOAL Balmoral Hall is ready to take the next step in its growth as it meets the needs of girls today. With several large commitments already secured, an additional $3 million in donations is required to make this project a reality.
NAMING OPPORTUNITIES There is a rich history of philanthropy at Balmoral Hall School. Building on this tradition, the school is delighted to offer donors a limited number of opportunities to add their name, family name, or the name of a beloved teacher, coach, or Head of School to select spaces in the Centre for Arts & Design. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who will use this new facility? All students from Child Care to Grade 12 will have the opportunity to take full advantage of our Centre for Arts & Design. Each of the flexible learning spaces has been designed to complement and enhance current programming. In each space, students will be given the opportunity to become actively engaged in designing their educational experience, making learning powerful and memorable. The possibilities are endless!
Will tuition fees be increased to support the construction of this project? No, we have not modelled the financing structure of this project on increased fees.
How will the student population be impacted? There are no plans to expand the size of the student population beyond our current capacity. Our Centre for Arts & Design will provide a necessary expansion of our students’ learning environment.
When will construction begin? This project is dependent primarily on fundraising, which means construction can begin as soon as the funds are raised. In June 2016, City of Winnipeg officials approved a Variance and Conditional Use, granting us permission to proceed with construction as soon as possible.
Our ability to ignite a girl’s creativity depends on offering her not only the tools and space that inspire exploration, but also a learning community where the only limitation she faces is her own imagination. With your support, we can nurture every girl’s innovative spirit.
