MEMBERSHIP However, setting 2020 aside, it might surprise people to learn that over the past five years, only 6.2% of members proposed someone for membership at BCC (out of 2,719 eligible members, only 169 proposed candidates). Most of us probably have someone in mind that would make a great BCC member, so why is the proposal rate so low? For some, the timing isn’t right or it just isn’t ‘top of mind’. For others, proposing a new member seems like it would take a lot of time and effort and they don’t know where to begin.
Propose Your Friends IN THE NEW YEAR! Dear Fellow Members, New Year’s resolutions…we all make them, many of us break them, and at least a few of us have spent way too much money on a gym membership we never used. This year, consider a New Year’s resolution that is easy to keep and will guarantee that you get more enjoyment out of 2021—proposing a friend or family member for membership at BCC. 2020 was obviously a challenging year for Baltimore Country Club. In spite of BCC’s nimble response to the pandemic and creative lineup of virtual events, we lost revenue in certain areas, especially large and private events. Other ‘side effects’ of 2020’s tough conditions were higher rates of attrition from the Club and a reduced number of new member proposals.
The good news is that the proposal process is easier than you think and that there are plenty of people and resources available to support you. If you are thinking of proposing a new member, please contact Director of Membership Casey Schell at cschell@bcc1898.com or call 410.554.8004. Casey can explain the process and timing, address any questions and concerns you may have, and get you started. Before you know it, you’ll be enjoying a cocktail on the Adirondacks with the friends or family you proposed, while supporting the Club in the process. And just think, you’ll be able to say you kept your New Year’s resolution for 2021 and you never even had to get on the scale! ◆ Happy New Year!
