A Message From Your General Manager
Twenty-five days and counting down to the start of the pool season The pool will open on Friday, May 26th with the Memorial Day BBQ on Monday, May 29th Bring the family out and enjoy the day with food, drink, games, and music. All of our lifeguards had their training/certification last weekend in preparation for the season. Our Pool Manager, Shannon Irish, along with the Social Committee are planning many activities to increase the interest of the members for this year’s pool season.
Spots are still available for our summer camps. Camps are open to all children and grandchildren of current members. Details, dates, and registration can be found on the website. Our Golf Pros and Tennis Pro are looking forward to a great summer with the kids!
The Social events at the Club have been ramping up as well! The Oyster Roast, Easter Brunch, Easter Egg Hunt, and the Bourbon and Cigar night were all hugely successful for our Food & Beverage to show their skills. Special mention to Alex Bryant and Shawn Hyleman for their expertise on roasting Oysters! Please be on the lookout for communication regarding upcoming events in May.
Our Member-Member was a successfully run tournament even with Mother Nature trying to put a damper on the golf and festivities. John Baker and his team magically had the course ready to play on Friday afternoon and concluding on Saturday afternoon followed by the dinner with the 2023 Champions- Andy Murrow and Austin Grimshaw!
MGA Golf league has started on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings, the best way to meet other members is to take advantage of these opportunities. They are fun and open to all skill levels. Call the Golf Shop to sign up and enjoy.
I would like to let our members know that Eric Buchanan has left CMC to pursue a career in the cruise ship world. Eric was a huge asset to us in getting The Clubhouse Restaurant started and he will be missed greatly by staff and members. I know you all join me in wishing him success. We are actively searching for a new FOH to assume the duties and continue to make our restaurant number one to our members and their guests
Have a wonderful safe summer, please remember to reach out with suggestions and comments as I am here to make your membership experience the best it can be. I can be reached by email npmorrow@cramermountainclub.com or my direct line at 704-879-4888 ext. 3.

By: John Baker, SuperintendentMGA & Derby Season
We have had several moving parts through the first four months of 2023 as we have moved to make significant improvements to the experience of being a member of the Cramer Mountain Mens' Golf Association ("MGA") In addition, in 2023 we moved to integrate the “Derby League”, started in 2022, into the MGA. The intent of this email is to clear up confusion as to the differences and overlap of these two.
Annual Fee: $50. Please contact the pro shop in order to enroll in the MGA. We are making a concerted effort, starting in 2023, to fortify our MGA presence at Cramer Mountain. Some of you may have already seen this with our weekly dog fight 9-hole rounds on Thursday nights
Separately, we will be starting with regular Saturday dog fights on Saturday mornings with prime tee times blocked off in the mornings for the MGA. There will be other MGA events throughout the year however the Thursday and Saturday dog fights will be the staple regular events this season. Entry fees into these will be $20 with declared winners and payouts to be made on the same day Scoring of these events is Stableford quota While these dog fights have typically welcomed all male members in the past, moving forward it will be required that participants be MGA members who are current on their ($50 annual) dues. We will allow non-members a one-time “freebee” to trial the event, but further participation will require MGA membership.
Typically, pairings are random to encourage members to meet new players from the club
We have formed an 8-man board to serve the MGA. By-laws are being drafted to increase transparency and accountability for this community. The primary goal is to encourage more golf and a more vibrant community on the mountain.
MGA: Derby:
Entry Fee: $250 Please contact Brian Frederick, Steve Priebe, or any other derby participant to enroll.
As of 2023, one must be an MGA member and current on MGA dues to enroll in the derby as all derby events are now classified as MGA events. This means enrollment in the 2023 Derby will require a $300 fee ($250 for the derby plus a $50 MGA membership).
Below is a general outline of the structure for the Derby:
The Derby runs the full season with a mid-season tournament during the summer and a season ending tournament in November. The Derby final became one of the more popular events to compete to enter as well as observe as a spectator in 2022 The 10 finalists of the season tee off on the first hole with the worst net score being eliminated each hole until one player is left standing after 9 holes
There are (2) "Derby League Events" each week. Each event is scored separately using FedEx Cup Points. A player’s best round from an event is used for scoring. Rounds played outside of sanctioned Derby Events will not count for past or future events
Weekday 9 Events (Tues-Fri): An individual's best front 9-hole score played Tuesday - Friday of every week during Derby Season
Weekend 18 Events: An individual's best 18-hole score played Friday - Sunday of every week during Derby Season.
As of the writing of this email there are over 50 players registered for the 2023 derby and a group chat has been set up to help facilitate coordination of tee times so players can pair up with other derby participants The $250 per man goes to: team apparel, payouts for team tournament, season finish, Shoot In, and Derby tournament. In addition, a portion of the money goes to food and beverage for special events related to these tournaments. 100% of the money goes back into the league in the form of payouts and expenses associated with creating this league No portion of the money is distributed as payment to the people who run and operate the Derby.

April was an exciting month to kick off the 2023 golf season. We had a great turn out for our first Friday night couple's event. Eighteen couples came out to play and afterwards we headed to the Clubhouse Restaurant for socializing and a great dinner Thank you to Norman and Eric for arranging a wonderful evening
We also had our first LGA Nine and Dine on April 5th Twelve ladies came out to test their skill in a fun Scramble event and then enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Clubhouse Restaurant We have Nine and Dine 2 to 3 times each month; check the club calendar to sign up for this and other fun ladies' events. April 12th was also our first Swig and Swing. Chuck Johnson gave us tips on how to swing with our sand wedge, 7-iron and driver. The white and red wine selection was also a hit. Thank you, Chuck for a great lesson! We look forward to many more. Swig and Swing is a monthly event, and you can find more information on our club calendar or call the golf shop. The April Fun 18 Day was cancelled due to pending storms and winds, but we have another scheduled for May 13th, so be sure to sign up!
Our golf season really takes off in May with Nine and Dine on Wednesday the 3rd, 17th and 31st. May 10th is our Cramer Mountain Inaugural Ladies' Golf Invitational. We have 40+ ladies set to participate in this stroke play event. Friday Night Couple's Golf is scheduled for May 12th and 26th The Ladies Fun 18 Day is Saturday the 13th and Swig and Swing is on May 24th
You can find all our events listed on the club calendar. Just log-in to your Cramer Mountain Club membership account to view and register.
There is still time to join the CMC Ladies Golf Association. The CMC LGA is open to ladies with a golf membership. Dues are only $50 per year. Our major event is the Woman in Pink fundraiser in September. In 2022, we raised $19,900 from sponsorships and donations. One hundred percent of the revenue went to the Woman in Pink Boutique in Gastonia. The LGA covers all expenses incurred
