Just how
Trustworthy
do you think your face is? People seem to judge trustworthiness by appearance especially where money becomes involved. Our decisions to trust people with our money are based more on how they look then how they behave, according to new research from the University of Warwick. Normally when deciding on whether to trust a person or not we all might consider the way he’s dressed, or whether he avoids eye contact while talking. Or you’d ask around to see if he has a good or bad reputation from people you know. But, sometimes our own instinct can be a better judgment, or not? Recently researchers from Warwick Business School, the University College London and Dartmouth College, USA, carried out a series of experiments to see if people made decisions to trust others based on their faces. They found people are more likely to invest money in someone whose face is generally perceived as trustworthy, even when they are given negative information about this person’s reputation. The team used a computer algorithm to create a set of 20 pairs

of faces at opposing ends of the trustworthiness scale. This computer software modifies the apparent trustworthiness of faces by altering their features. The researchers were able to experimentally manipulate the unfakeable features (those related to shape of the face) that make a face look trustworthy or untrustworthy. These 40 faces were then used in a series of trust games with human participants. Each volunteer was given a sum of money and told they could invest any part of the amount in a trustee whose face appeared on the screen. Any amount they invested would be tripled and volunteers were told it was then up to the trustee to decide how much to send back to them. Thus participants had an incentive to invest only in trustees who could be expected to return more than the invested amount. The researchers found that 13 out of 15 participants invested more, on average, in the trustworthy identities. The researchers decided to do a second test where they would give the volunteers information about whether the trustees had good or bad histories to see if this would change there opinion on whether to invest with the individuals or not. A bad history did however decrease how much people wanted to invest, but participants still invested six percent more money in identities with trustworthy faces despite their reputation.
In spite of having concrete information about the reliability of a person, we still judge people by their faces. We still use our own judgment in the end when deciding whom we can trust! Features that appear trustworthy

With last month’s Euro Millions hitting an almighty €158,052,844 you all most likely queued up dreaming to be the lucky holder of that winning ticket! Now that the two winning tickets were said to be purchased in the UK and Belgium, we are back to reality and thinking, maybe next time. To make everyone feel a tad bit better, it is known that winning the lottery can bring more than joy into someone’s life. In fact, it can make their lives a living nightmare. It can cause a great change to a person’s life. When someone goes from having no money or being middle class to having millions, it’s going to cause a great impact on their lives. The lottery can do more than just make you rich, it can cause family issues, put someone’s life at risk, or even result in depression. Winning the lottery cannot always bring happiness into your life, especially between your friends and family. If you were unhappy before being rich, you’re more than likely to be unhappy after becoming a millionaire. Prof. Andrew Oswald, of Warwick University says, “There is no doubt there is a very strong [initial] euphoria, and then the evidence suggests people don’t enjoy the money for the first year or two.” It’s not clear why there is this gap before lottery winners start to really enjoy

themselves. “We have postulated after the euphoria wears off, in their subconscious they realise they don’t deserve the money and it takes a while for this nondeservedness to wear off,” says Prof. Oswald. But there are some bad effects of a win, notably in someone’s health. “They start to smoke more and drink more,” he says. “We think that may be bad for their health and hold down their happiness for a while.” In 2007, one tabloid noted that a multimillion pound winner had put on a stone, split up with her boyfriend and become reclusive. While most people would often think that money would buy happiness, people who have won the lottery have become depressed. But the truth is that winning an unimaginable sum of money places unimaginable stress on the lives of people who just aren’t prepared for it. In fact nearly one third of multimillion pound lottery winners become bankrupt in just a few years after their big win. If you are not accustomed to having great wealth, as many of these big lottery winners were not, then the problems that come with suddenly having a lot of money overnight can be so overwhelming that depression becomes inevitable. Some people who often win large amounts of money go over the top and buy whatever they want, without thinking about how they’re going to pay for it. Big spending has caused many lottery winners to go into bankruptcy. Lottery winners often want to spend their money on a big house, not thinking of the utility bills, taxes, and insurance they’re going to have to pay. Having a big house is nice, but someone has to be prepared to

An ex-girlfriend sued him for a share of the winnings and won; his brother hired a hit man, hoping to inherit some winnings; and relatives incessantly begged him for money, MSN reports. Within a year, Post was $1 million in debt and filing for bankruptcy. Now he lives on food stamps and a $450/month stipend!

Fetishes Fetishes are usually a relatively benign, harmless quirk which we can laugh at; however, there are cases of extreme paraphilia that cannot be taken lightly. Apparently, we all have fetishes, some being more minor than others and many of us do not associate these as fetishes. It’s only when extreme cases of disturbing sexual behaviour are brought to our attention that we label the behavioural condition as a fetish. It is a cycle of addiction and psychological dependence. Fetishes can be seen as a by-product of an obsessive mind. They result from “intrusive thoughts” that cause anxiety. The more anxiety the person has over them, the more the person repeats the same thoughts that he or she never wanted in the first place. It is only once these negative thoughts are overcome e.g during childhood where something scared us and then we tackled that fear to disappear, that we are then flooded by a great feeling of motivation or pleasure. The feeling of reward compels people to repeat activities and thought patterns due to the pleasurable gratification gained from the specific activity. Anxiety causes a hormone called dopamine to flood a person’s synapses. Dopamine is a hormone of motivation, pleasure, memory, and feeling rewarded. You are elated when you have an experience where you learn that you are totally in control of a thing that you feared. Fetishes are born from these experiences. Every time you think about the experience, you may have a dopamine rush that feels strangely and appropriately equivalent to sex.

s e p i c e R r Summe Barbecued Chicken Breasts with Pesto, Mozzarella and Tomatoes Flattened chicken breasts are barbecued with pesto, mozzarella and tomatoes. Simple, yet extremely delicious. Serve with a large green salad. Serves: 4
Directions:
1. Slice one chicken breast horizontally, but not all the way through. Open chicken out and cover with a piece of cling film. Pound with a meat mallet or rolling pin until evenly thin. Repeat with the other three chicken breasts. 2. Coat the chicken with pesto. Cover and chill for 30 minutes to 1 hour. 3. Meanwhile, preheat the barbecue. 4. Drizzle chicken with olive oil. Place chicken breasts on the hottest part of the barbecue and sear for 2-3 minutes. Turn over. 5. Spoon some more pesto on the chicken. Top each piece with a slice of cheese, tomato and another slice of cheese. Cook for a further 2-3 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

Berry Mojito A wonderful cocktail that screams summer!! Fresh berries and mint! A great twist to the ordinary Mojito! If you don’t have access to fresh berries, frozen will work as well. Ingredients: 1 1/2 ounces light rum 3-4 blackberries 3-4 blueberries 3-4 red raspberries 8-12 fresh mint leaves 1 lime, juice of 2 tbs sugar or sugar syrup soda water mint sprig (to garnish) Directions: 1. Mix mint, simple syrup or sugar, berries and lime juice. 2. Fill glass with crushed ice, it is very important to use crushed ice, not cubed, then add rum. 3. Stir well until the ice is reduced by 1/3, then top with more crushed ice, stirring until glass begins to frost on the outside. 4. Spritz with soda water and stir one last time to incorporate. 5. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint

Emma Stone is a 23 year old American Actress from Arizona. The Phoenix, Ariz., native initially wanted to be a Disney star but eventually got her big break as Jonah Hill’s quick-witted crush in 2007’s Superbad. Since then, Stone has become Hollywood’s go-to sassy ingénue, showcasing her signature charisma in House Bunny and Zombieland. But the summer of 2011 proved to be the redhead’s coming out party. Rainbow Moon Rainbow Moon is a Strategy-RPG from the makers of the hit Soldner-X franchise. Cursed by his long-time enemy, Baldren founds himself warped to Rainbow Moon. And to make things worse, Baldren isn’t only stranded in an unknown place – he has also opened a dimensional gate, out of which troops of monsters are crawling, turning this once peaceful planet into a real hell. The residents of Rainbow Moon who have found themselves in this sudden and unpleasant situation react suspiciously and even nastily, which certainly doesn’t make things any easier for our brave hero. There’s only one thing for Baldren to do: he has to seal the gate and warp himself back to his home planet. This is easier said than done, since the gate can only be sealed by a dimensional gate staff and no such object is available anywhere on Rainbow Moon. However Baldren knows that he can create one if he finds the right materials. He needs seven magical artifacts, said to be hidden deep inside Rainbow Moon’s dungeons.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
As a kid I can remember using all my 10p pieces on the arcade version of Bomb Jack so imagine my delight when it was released on my ZX Spectrum! The simple aim of the game is to diffuse a series of bombs scattered around the screen by flying or running into them. Enemies such as birds, mummies, turtles, and orbs float around the screen and try to kill you. The backgrounds are famous tourist attractions such as the Sphinx (pictured) so in effect Jack is saving the world. Once the bombs are all gone you ‘level up’ and the fun begins again. This carries on through fun filled levels until you reach the end. Global disaster averted!

They have two great chefs, Kenny and Gregg who are renowned for providing top quality food! Their signature dishes are John Dory served with a spinach cream sauce, and Chicken Roulade served on chive mash. Their delicious tender Irish fillet Steaks with sautéed mushrooms and onions, and their fillet on the stone which is getting very popular are a must to try! Alternatively, not be forgotten are their Irish Ribeye Steaks. The average main course price is about €19 which for the quality, great surroundings and atmosphere is extremely reasonable! You can eat indoors in their contemporary surroundings or outdoor on their large terrace. Should you feel like finishing off an amazing night with a few drinks in a lively bar with live entertainment you haven’t got to venture far! Their traditional Irish bar just next door is the perfect end to a great night out. They have a pub quiz every Thursday at 8.30pm hosted by Hannah Murray of Talk Radio Europe, followed by The Motown Show featuring Michael Jackson. Every Friday and Saturday night they have Alan “The Piano Man” Hamilton live from 10.30pm and live music every Sunday night from 9.30pm with a different artist each week. The bar is open from 10am to 2am 7 days a week and the restaurant is open from 6pm until late 6 days a week. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
