Pink’s Page Ms Pink, head DJ at Sisu and Sleek brings you the news, reviews and gossip! SECOND CITY I loved Second city at Sleek last month, it was one of my favourite nights so far. He played a great dj set and was such a nice guy, he stayed around after his set to party with everyone and he was a real pleasure to work with. Obviously “I wanna Feel” went down a treat with the crowd… I’m really looking forward to hearing some of his new stuff when it comes out later on this year!

MARBELLA DRESS CO.

Redfoo performed a few LMFAO hits including Sexy and I Know it, and the party rock Anthem and the whole crew went wild, shooting confetti over the whole club and causing chaos! What a night!!!

I’ve been lucky enough to be sponsored by the stunning Marbella Dress Company! The lovely Felicity will be dressing me until the end of the summer, bringing me the best selection of pink outfits money can buy! I’ve already worn 3 of her dresses and I felt like an absolute princess. To buy or browse check out www.marbelladresscompany.com or pop into Golden Tarts where they stock the collection.

LMFAO!! All I can say is OMG!!! Redfoo and the Lafreak crew came to Sleek this month and absolutely rocked the place! We already knew they would smash it up just like they did last year and they did not disappoint us! Joined by a crew of leopardprinted neon nutters, Redfoo had it large on stage with a giant zebra, downing Vodka and feeding it to the crowd! The set was pure dirty electro and edm for a whole hour and a half, and they kept the crowd going the whole way through! 6

SLEEK LINE-UP The line up for Sleek these past 2 months has been insane!! We have already had the amazing Gorgon City and LMFAO grace our turntables and now we’ve only gone and booked Tiesto and Snoop Dog!! To top it all off we’ve got Disclosure and MK coming at the end of August, I can’t wait!!

BEACH GROOVES RADIO I’ve now got my own Radio show on beach grooves FM. You can catch me every Monday from 4-7 on 97.1fm playing a selection of house on the drivetime show.

Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. was born on October 20, 1971 and is better known by his stage names Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Dogg, later Snoop Lion, and now DJ Snoopadelic. As a boy, his parents nicknamed him “Snoopy” because of his appearance hence his choice of moniker when he became famous. He is an American rapper, singersongwriter, and actor and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. His music career began when Snoop, along with his cousins Nate Dogg and Lil’ ½ Dead and friend Warren G, recorded homemade tapes as a group called 213, named after the Long Beach area code at the time. One of his early solo freestyles over En Vogue’s “Hold On” had made it to a mixtape which was heard by influential producer Dr. Dre, who phoned to invite him to an audition in 1992. Later that year he collaborated on Dre’s solo debut The Chronic and on the theme song to the feature film Deep Cover.

first artist to release a track as a ringtone prior to its release as a single, which was “It’s the D.O.G.”

Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle, was released in 1993 under Death Row Records, debuting at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Selling almost a million copies in the first week of its release, Doggystyle became certified 4 times platinum in 1994 and spawned several hit singles, including “What’s My Name” and “Gin & Juice”. His second album Tha Doggfather in 1996, also debuted at No. 1 on both charts with “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head” as the lead single. The album was certified double platinum in 1997. After leaving Death Row, Snoop signed with No Limit Records, where he recorded his next three albums. Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told in 1998, No Limit Top Dogg in 1999 and Tha Last Meal in 2000. Snoop then signed with Priority/Capitol/EMI Records in 2002, where he released Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss and following this he then signed with Geffen Records in 2004 for his next three albums R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin’.

Malice ‘n Wonderland in 2009 and Doggumentary in 2011, were released on Priority Records. Snoop Dogg has starred in motion pictures and hosted several television shows including, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, reality show Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood (also starring Snoop’s wife and children), and Dogg After Dark. He also coaches a youth football league and high school football team. In September 2009, Snoop was hired by EMI as the chairman of a reactivated Priority Records. In 2012, after a trip to Jamaica, Snoop announced a conversion to the Rastafari movement and a new alias, Snoop Lion. Under the new moniker, he released a reggae album, Reincarnated, and a documentary film of the same name, of his Jamaican experience, in early 2013. He is currently working on his last solo studio album under his rap moniker Snoop Dogg. Under his most recent monkier, DJ Snoopadelic, Snoop is currently touring Europe, and the fantastic news is that you can see DJ Snoopadelic perform at Sleek nightclub on the 7th August.

Snoop founded his own production company, Snoopadelic Films, in 2005. Their debut film was Boss’n Up, a film inspired by Snoop Dogg’s album R&G, starring Lil Jon and Trina. In July 2007, Snoop Dogg also made history by becoming the 11

DJ COLIN FRANCIS

is London, Essex and Marbella’s No.1 DJ, known as the DJ to the Celebrities. He is the DJ that brought you No.1 Gold-Selling Album “Marbella Sessions 2013” with Ministry of Sound. Based in London, he plays weekly in London’s exclusive west end clubs. During the summer, as he is Marbella’s No.1 DJ, you will find him at all the top venues on Marbella Champagne Spray weekends. Also during the summer season he plays in exclusive nightclubs around the world, including in Ibiza, Miami, and Los Angeles. What’s your first memory of music? Hearing my Mum playing Diana Ross and Dad playing Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding, especially the songs “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and “My Cherie Amour”.

When did you realise you had a love for music? When from about the age of 10 during the 6 week summer holidays all I wanted to do was go through my uncle’s extensive record collection and make note of who wrote, produced, played

keys or bass and sang on tunes. That’s when I first realised that Nile Rodgers was ‘the man,’ along with Quincy Jones of course.

Please explain how and when you started to DJ? From about the age of 14 after school I used to go round to my uncle’s house to practice on his decks, then go home and listen back to what I did and be extremely critical, then go back the next day to improve. I eventually got my own decks and that was it for me.... My first official girlfriend.. I was in love, lol! I always knew I wanted to DJ but didn’t know how to go about it.

Have you got any academic qualifications? I’ve got a B.A (Hons) Degree in Economics and Politics. I always wanted to make my parents happy first by getting an education behind me before pursuing my dream. It’s important to have an education to fall back on and also it has helped me with understanding the business side of the entertainment industry.

What was your first DJing gig and venue? One of the first gigs I did was in Essex for my mum’s birthday. I had to start somewhere and 15

mum trusted me lol... It was great because I knew everyone there, so that gave me extra confidence.

Who and what inspires you? DJs such as Mickey D from early Kiss Fm days and the late great DJ Swing inspired me. From an aspirational level it was Trevor Nelson because he did so much for music and DJs as a whole. The man is a Legend. One of my favourite DJs Ever is Jazzy Jeff. He is a genius and crosses over so many genres of music, which is what I do. I view music like I view people – with no prejudice, just accept them for the feeling they give to me.

What was your favourite club / gig in the UK? I’ve had so many that it’s hard to say, but I can say that Club 195 in Essex has brought me many memorable nights. Especially the time when me and Trevor Nelson paired up to do a celebration party of our No.1 albums. His Trevor Nelson Collection and my Marbella Sessions. Best night for many reasons.

How long have you been playing in Marbella and explain how you see the Marbella scene? I’ve been playing in Marbella for Over 10 years and the scene is so unique compared to anywhere you go in the world. To me it’s the Jewel in the Crown in Spain.

What’s your proudest moment to date? I would have to say being presented with my Gold Plaque for selling over 150,000 copies of Marbella Sessions 2013 with Ministry of Sound. It was like a dream come true for me. The support and love shown to me and for the album is truly overwhelming and extremely humbling. It inspires me to work harder and to be even more focused. 16

Please explain how Marbella Sessions came about and your involvement with the project? It’s a concept that came about with me and a friend. We developed it and it was presented to a few record companies, many of which showed interest, and we decided to go with Ministry of Sound because they are the best at what they do.

Explain what it takes for you to select a Ministry of Sound track and the process you go through to mix the album? It’s an extremely long process and takes years of knowledge and experience in the scene to know what tracks to select. But it is also a process that I love most apart from mixing it of course.

The new album features your own track, please talk to us about the track and feedback you’ve received. The Colin Francis Project was something I’ve always wanted to do and I have a great team around me. We decided to get Layla Grey to do the vocals on a track called Let You Go and it came out amazing. It fits on the album ‘As it’s Summer’. Girls love it, boys love it, and it has a great hook. The feedback has been great and it’s already had interest on from several major record labels.

When can we catch you playing next in Marbella, London and Essex? I’m back and forth from Marbella throughout the season at the Champagne Spray weekends (the last Thursday - Monday of July and August). Check out my twitter @ djcolinfrancis for all DJ gigs and to see what’s going on.

What’s your favourite track of this summer? Secondcity - I Wanna Feel, Route 94 - My Love and of course Colin Francis Project ft. Layla Grey - Let You Go.

Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran was born in West Yorkshire to John Sheeran, an art curator and lecturer, and Imogen Lock, a culture publicist-turned-jewellery designer. He has an older brother, Matthew, who is a classical composer and postgraduate music student and his parents ran the independent art consultancy, Sheeran Lock, from 1990 to 2010. He sang in a local church choir from the age of four, learned guitar at a very young age, and began writing songs during his time at school. His early childhood memories include listening to Van Morrison on his trips to London with his parents and going to an intimate Damien Rice gig in Ireland when he was eleven. Sheeran began music recording in 2005, and released his first independent EP, The Orange Room EP. For a few years he played small venues and he then released another EP in 2009, You Need Me, shortly before going on tour with Just Jack. In 2010 Sheeran posted a video through SB.TV, and mainstream rapper Example invited Sheeran to tour with him. In February 2010, he also released his critically acclaimed Loose Change EP, which featured his later debut single “The A Team. 31

Throughout 2010, Sheeran began to be seen by more people over the internet through YouTube and his fan-base grew, with him also getting credit from The Independent newspaper and Elton John. attention for reaching number 2 in the iTunes chart without any promotion or label, selling over 7,000 copies in its first week… soon after Sheeran was signed to Asylum / Atlantic Records.

Sheeran played 64 dates at arenas and stadiums across North America as the opening act for Swift’s The Red Tour from March to September 2013. “The A Team” received a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Elton John, who runs Sheeran’s management company, wanted to get Sheeran a performance slot at the awards but was told that the singer was not high-profile enough. John decided to appear with Sheeran to circumvent this problem: “I got a call from Elton being like, ‘I couldn’t get you a solo slot, but would you mind playing with me?’” Sheeran’s second studio album, x, was released in June 2014. He recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin, who advised Sheeran to record the album acoustically with a good mood; extra instrumentation was added later.

They spent two summers on the island of Sardinia, working as models and hostesses at Phi Beach and Ritual. In between all their travels they found time to study and have both obtained college degrees in economics.

“This is our first year in Marbella and in Sisu Boutique Hotel. We are absolutely delighted about this fabulous and at the same time crazy place. Every day something new and amazing happens here. We have worked in many places and we can say that the team spirit of Sisu is the best. We love the crazy pool parties every Friday, the romantic dinners on the rooftop, and meeting all the famous performers and DJs at Sleek nightclub. Simply, Sisu & Sleek the best!”
