Ibrahim Ba

Without Robin Van Persie, Arsenal have been even more topsy turvy than normal this season. One moment they win 6-0 and the next they can’t get ger Wen Arsene a goal. Strange stuff and I expect them to struggle against the ever frustrating Stoke, who will do their utmost to rain on Arsene Wenger’s parade. This might be a 1-1 draw.

Everton v Aston Villa

Everton maintain their push for a European place and as they’re in good form and Villa are fighting off relegation, I can only see this ending up in favour of the toffees. 2-0 to Everton.

FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS

Arsenal v Stoke City

Premiership

SATURDAY 2ND FEBRUARY

Fulham v Manchester United

Fulham’s early good form has left them and now they meet Manchester United who to be honest are in such good form, that I can’t see anything apart from a United win. Dimitar Berbatov will certainly want to play well to prove a point to his old club and he might even get a goal. But I still think United will win 1-2.

Newcastle United v Chelsea

Newcastle’s had major problems this season with injuries and they’ll find the return of their former striker Ibrahim Ba hard to take. If the reception by the crowd is anything like Andy Carroll’s ‘welcome’ (who was on record for not wanting to leave) then Ba’s return should provide some fireworks. It’s a tricky tie for Chelsea but I think they’ll still edge it. 0-2 to Chelsea.

Queens Park Rangers v Norwich City

The hope of safety from relegation is the miracle that Harry Redknapp has brought to QPR. Redknapp should of course be England manager but the English FA always does exactly that...sweet FA. Clough was missed as will Redknapp be, English through and through and brilliant motivators which is all you want at the highest level. Look how Redknapp has already turned the titanic that was QPR who was doomed and heading straight for the iceberg 2 months ago and now they greet Norwich who have at times been impressive in the league. I think both teams will be happy with a draw. 1-1.

Reading v Sunderland

After a shaky start to the season, Sunderland are back to playing halfway decent football. Reading however are still prime candidates for relegation, they are still quite strong at home and may get a draw here. I’ll go for 1-1.

West Ham United v Swansea City

Both teams are fairly evenly matched but Swansea have got terrific away form and I have a feeling they’ll certainly edge this game. West Ham have wobbled recently which is why they turned their attention to bringing in new players in the form of Joe Cole and Chamakh from Arsenal. Cole plays well for West Ham and will probably revive their season as long as he doesn’t get injured. This could be a high scoring game and a draw at the end of it. 3-3.

SUNDAY 3RD FEBRUARY West Bromwich Albion v Tottenham Hotspur

West Brom have been the revelation team this season under Steve Clarke. Once the dour tactics of Roy Hodgson was replaced by someone who knew what they were doing, then West Brom have soared up the table and have every chance of getting a European place. Spurs though have been playing extremely well and will want the points to challenge for a top four Champions League place. I think Spurs have enough quality to just about edge this one and I’ll go for 0-1 to Tottenham.

Manchester City v Liverpool

At the start of the season, Liverpool were 2-0 up against City at Anfield and somehow managed to get a draw, mainly down to a dreadful back pass from Skrtel and some quality from City’s strikers. I can’t see Liverpool going 2-0 up at the Etihad stadium and for the previous few seasons Liverpool have taken a beating here. Liverpool might just do enough to get a draw 0-0.

SATURDAY 9TH FEBRUARY

Wigan Athletic v Southampton

Unless Wigan can repeat their great escape plan like last year, this may be the year they get relegated. With Roberto Martinez being wined and dined by the Liverpool owners in the summer, his star status as young wunderkid manager is certainly dimmer now. Luckily they’re meeting Southampton who aren’t a whole lot better either and as it’s at Wigan then I’ll go for a home win. 1-0.

Chelsea v Wigan Athletic

Norwich have been very strong at home and I think Fulham will come unstuck here against the Canaries. Fulham have been pretty awful away from home and I can’t see them getting much here. 2-0 to Norwich.

Southampton v Manchester City

Southampton have been pretty strong at home but I still can’t see them stopping the current champions, Manchester City. This will be a pretty tight game though and I see City sneaking it by the odd goal. Class tells at the end of the day and the City players might actually enjoy a day out on the South coast, at least it’s warmer than sunny Manchester. 0-1 to Manchester City.

Stoke City v Reading

Stoke have been pretty much invincible at home this season, so the likes of relegation fodder Reading coming up and winning here is highly unlikely. I could say that at the end of the day it’s eleven men against eleven but I think Stoke will just batter Readings eleven into submission. Not pretty but very effective. Fair play. 2-0 to Stoke.

Sunderland v Arsenal

Sunderland gets cold this time of year and whether Arsenal’s stars can face these extreme temperatures will be a test of their mettle. Sunderland are slowly improving during the season and will test Arsenal to the maximum. I still see Arsenal sneaking it though. 1-2 to Arsenal.

ez

Roberto Martin

With their tails up and challenging for the top places, Wigan arrive like lambs to the slaughter. I’m all for the idea of the underdog and Roy of the Rovers, but I can’t see Wigan getting anything from this game. They’ll be wise to prevent a load of goals against them because come seasons end goal difference might be all that separates Rafa Benitez the teams. 3-0 to Chelsea.

Norwich City v Fulham

Manchester United v Everton

Michael Laudrup

Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers

All you can say about Swansea is what a fantastic job, Michael Laudrup has done. Taking over from Brendan Rodgers he’s turned Swansea into a tighter unit and with the addition of some canny buys like Michu for 2 million, he has turned Swansea into serious contenders for Europe. Ironic if Swansea beat Liverpool for the Europa League place. QPR have been improving but they’re not going to win here. 2-0 to Swansea.

Manchester United are in excellent form of late and while Everton can provide problems. Also with the upcoming match against Real Madrid and the battle of Fergie and Mourinho then United may not play a full strength team. With that in mind and knowing Everton will fight to the last, this may end up in a draw. 1-1.

MONDAY 11TH FEBRUARY Liverpool v West Bromwich Albion

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United

On paper this is a good game, but Newcastle have only been winning at home. At White Hart Lane, Spurs have been very strong and they’re still in with a chance with a top 4 place, so I expect nothing more than a win here. Though Ba has left from Newcastle, his departure may mean better unity in the squad but this still doesn’t mean they’ll win here. A tight game and I’ll go for 3-2 to Spurs.

SUNDAY 10TH FEBRUARY Aston Villa v West Ham United

Arsenal v Aston Villa

This should be a walk over for Arsenal and apart from Paul Lambert healing the blond before kick off and thus creating miracles, I think Arsenal will run out comfortable winners. Villa will do the right things and play decent football, but they’ll still get beat. 3-1 to Arsenal.

Fulham v Stoke City

Fulham haven’t been too clever lately and Stoke have been... Stoke. So Stoke will always make it awkward and put it up the opposition. I think they’ll win here too and while it won’t be free scoring, Fulham won’t get a look in. 0-2 to Stoke.

Steve Clarke

In times past, this game would be a foregone conclusion, but with successive bad appointments to the Liverpool top job Liverpool now find themselves on a similar level as an improved West Brom. Steve Clarke who was part of Dalglish/ Clarke partnership of the last season and has certainly turned WBA into a decent outfit within a few short months. Brendan Rodgers who has also been at Liverpool for a similar amount of time have done ok. At times Liverpool have been good and at times woeful. They had better be at their best at Anfield as well because West Brom are more than capable of winning here. I’ll go for a draw 1-1.

Both teams have had fairly mixed results at home and away with Villa being ok at home and West Ham being pretty awful. With that in mind, and that Villa may suddenly realise that now that they’re out of the Capital One Cup they could quite easily be relegated as well, I think both teams will be happy with a draw. 0- 0.

SATURDAY 23RD FEBRUARY

menslifestylespain.com february 2013

Norwich City v Everton

Tricky game for Everton who might be starting to flag at this time of the year. Norwich are good at home and Everton will do their utmost to win, so this could be a tight affair with a few goals. I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.

Queens Park Rangers v Manchester United

Harry Redknapp

Can miracles happen? I’m sure they can but they’re not going to appear at this game. Harry Redknapp could be as inspiring as Henry the Fifth at Agincourt, it still won’t help QPR. 0-2 to United.

Reading v Wigan Athletic

A 6 pointer. 2 teams who desperately need the points and haven’t been playing at all well. As it’s at Reading that must count for something surely and I think the home team will sneak it. 1-0 to Reading.

West Bromwich Albion v Sunderland

This should be a home win for West Brom. Sunderland have been ok but I think the Baggies will be too strong for the visitors. 2-0 to West Brom.

SUNDAY 24TH FEBRUARY Liverpool v Swansea City

International Match Manchester City v Chelsea

Top game with 2 top teams. If either lose it could mean an end to the title challenge and so both teams will keep it tight. If anything the pressure is off Chelsea as they aren’t Champions and they aren’t at home and so expected to win. Benitez is master at that type of containment tactic and watch Chelsea play on the counter attack. 0-1 to Chelsea.

Newcastle United v Southampton

This should be a home win for Newcastle but they haven’t been a force this season. Can’t see Southampton getting a win here but they’ve been quite decent on the road and they may just sneak a draw. 0-0.

Brendan Rodgers

MONDAY 25TH FEBRUARY Brendan Rodgers new team meets his old one. If Rodgers is to survive beyond the end of the season, his Liverpool team have to win games like this at home. If Sturridge has settled in quickly and clicked with Suarez then there is a chance of getting into Europe and maybe getting top 6. If Skrtel and Agger can keep Michu quiet then they can win this game. Laudrup and his team will certainly want to show what they can do also and this is a perfect stage to do so. The higher Swansea end up in the league table the more likelihood Laudrup will leave for a ‘bigger’ club. Still see Liverpool win this though. Just. 1-0 to Liverpool.

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

Form goes out of the window in these London Derbies and so while Spurs are the better side, with the game being at West Ham then that evens things out. If Spurs want to go onto better things with Andre Villas Boas then this is the type of game they need to win. Spurs to sneak it 0 -1.

Wednesday 6th February, 2013

England v Brazil In the old days this would have been a good game but to be frank it’s yet another money maker from the F.A. All the big clubs will rest their players and Hodgson can’t demand they play as this is a friendly and he hasn’t got the cojones to demand they play anyways, especially his best mate Fergie. Brazil have become a team of ‘Harlem Globetrotters’ who travel the world because of their name. The only problem with that is they’re no longer in the top ten and recently dropped to 18th in the World rankings. Greece and Switzerland are ten places above them. If Brazil concentrated on their football rather than their brand they may even get back to their former glories in time for them hosting the next world cup in 2014. Everyone will still watch it and hey England may even win it which of course will mean that we get all hopeful that we could do well in the next world cup. Which we won’t, because we’ve got the likes of Hodgson at the helm. Ah well, we can but dream. 2-1 to England.

Champions League Fixtures and Predictions TUESDAY 12TH FEBRUARY

12th - 20th February

WEDNESDAY 13TH FEBRUARY

TUESDAY 19TH FEBRUARY

Real Madrid v Man Utd Jose Mourinho

Celtic v Juventus

Celtic have to be over the moon to get this far and they deserve every part of their success. So now they face Juventus who are top of the Italian league and everybody’s favourite for this game. All Celtic can do is go out and play with pride and hope that the Italians have an off day which of course they can do especially away at Celtic park. Ever optimistic Celtic may get a draw here, even better if it’s a 0- 0 draw with no away goal scored by Juventus.

Valencia v Paris SG Zlatan Ibrahimovic

A hard game for Arsenal against the runaway German leaders Bayern Munich. Lucas Podolski knows the German team very well and knows how to play against them but whether the Arsenal team can keep it tight at the back is anyone’s guess. They could win this game especially as it’s at home or they could be battered by the Germans. I’ll go for a high scoring draw 2-2. Probably after Arsenal being 2-0 up.

FC Porto v Malaga Alex Ferguson

What a game this should be! Master v Apprentice and the return of the rivalry of Ferguson and Mourinho. With the league already over by December with Barcelona ahead by 16 points, this is the game that Mourinho most wants. Quite why he’s been dropping club captain Iker Casillas is anyone’s guess but he tends to do odd things when he’s on the way out of certain clubs, he did the same in the last days of Chelsea. This is also the first time Christiano Ronaldo plays against his old club and he certainly will want to make his mark and impress. There are even hints in the press that he wants to leave Real and return to Man United. As for this game, I think Real Madrid will win this. Man United may be walking the league but the Spanish teams are a different kettle of fish and United haven’t been tested in Europe yet. United may get an away goal though which will make it interesting for the 2nd leg at Old Trafford. 2-1 to Real.

Malaga continue to excel under Pellegrini and I see no reason why they can’t go on to the next stage and beat Porto in the process. If they can get an away goal here even better as this will set them up for the next leg nicely. 0-1 to Malaga.

WEDNESDAY 20TH FEBRUARY AC Milan v Barcelona

Barcelona have to be favourites for this one as they are currently walking the best league in the world and Milan are struggling to even get a European place. With Messi on fire as usual then all I can see is a win for Barca. 0-1 to Barcelona.

Lionel Messi

Valencia have been ok at times this season especially in the Champions league and they might surprise a few people including Paris Saint Germain. PSG are top of the French league at the moment after spending heavily due to their new arab owners and after forking out for Zlatan Ibrahimovic they can expect to go far. I don’t see them winning this though but I do see an away goal and then winning back in Paris. 1-1 draw.

Arsenal v Bayern Munich
