The top 8 in the list are 99% certain to be in, and although Peter Hanson an d Sergio Garcia could be overtaken, I don’t think they will be. So that leaves Capt ain Jose Marie Olazabal two pi cks. At the moment I think he will go for Padraic Harringt on and Ian Poulter! That is un less they have won either the Open or the US PGA G olf’s last two Majors. The last counting event for Europe is the Johnnie Walker Champion ship at GlenEagles Augu st 23-26. As for the boys acro ss the pond, the US team is as good as settled.

The 2012 Ryder Cup will be held at Medinah Country Club in Illinois, on September 28th-30th. This month will see the teams announced, and both sides look almost sewn up already.

US Standings 1) Bubba Watson 2) Jason Dufner 3) Tiger Woods 4) Webb Simpson 5) Zach Johnson 6) Phil Mickleson 7) Matt Kuchar 8) Hunter Mahan 9) Keelan Bradley 10) Rickie Fowler

The top 9 are su rely in. Rickie Fowler, at 10, co uld be in danger especial ly if someone inside the next te n places win’s either the Open or the US PGA; the last countin g event for the US team. Then it’ s a question of who will Davis Lo ve pick as his two wild cards? I’m going for Steve Striker an d Jim Furyk! But things could ch ange on both sides of the pond over the next few weeks. Onc e decided, all eyes will start tu rning towards Medinah Countr y Club, as the excitement build s to the 2012 Ryder Cup on Se ptember 28th30th.

You will always find a warm welcome when you arrive and that sets you up for your round. is one of the coast’s little gems. Only 9 holes, but it’s a full 9 hole course, par 36. It has two par 3’s, two par 5’s and five par 4’s. It is always in immaculate condition, in fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find a course in better condition!

The course starts with a Par 3 downhill where water comes into play when the pin is on the right of the green. The second is a testing Par 4 with the green sitting just over the ravine. You need to hit a good drive to carry the water but also straight so as to miss the waiting fairway bunker. The third is a great looking Par 3, almost entirely surrounded by water. The fourth is one of my favourite holes on the coast. A Par 5 with a challenging drive – trees right and ravine and bunker left. Hit a straight drive past the bunker and you can then reach the green in two but it’s a tricky shot as the green sticks out into the lake at the bottom end of the course. If you haven’t found this course yet, make it a must on your list, as I honestly believe that you will enjoy playing this superb course.

This picturesque golf course is just 5 minutes from the N-340, on the Benahavís road.

Ernie Els wins the Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes

Ernie Els, age 42, came into the tournament completely under the radar, but taking his 4th Major Championship, he has surely put his name up in lights once more. What a memorable finish in the worst way. Els didn’t record a bogey on the back nine, and Adam Scott bogeyed the final four holes to end the tournament.

Great birdie putt on 18 Ernie! Els delivered on the back nine, especially with his clutch putt that ultimately won the tournament. If he hadn’t made that putt, the pressure for Scott wouldn’t have increased on the 18th. The putt that could have forced a playoff, turned out to be the putt that won the tournament.

2nd - Adam Scott

3rd - Tiger Woods

4th - Brandt Snedeker

Sloping Lies How to adjust your stance and swing to deal with tricky sloping lies BALL ABOVE YOUR FEET

BALL BELOW YOUR FEET

When the ball is above your feet, stand taller. Make a more rounded swing taking into account that the ball flight will be from right to left.

When the ball is below your feet, stand wider, bend your legs and do not lean over the ball. Take one club more and swing easy at the ball. If you swing too hard you will lose balance and hit a poor shot. The ball will fly left to right.

DOWNHILL LIE

With a downhill lie, do not stand normal, as this will lead to you hitting the shot fat or thin.

You must get your shoulders going in line with the slope.

Also widen your stance to help. Do not be afraid to follow through even if it makes you walk after the shot!

UPHILL LIE

Golf

Golf Trivia! Golf was banned in Scotland from 1457 to 1502 to ensure citizens wouldn’t waste time when preparing for the English invasion.

With an uphill lie. Don’t stand with normal balance as you will hit the ball fat.

Drop your right shoulder to get your shoulders in line with the slope. Take an extra club as it will be impossible to make a full swing. Note: the ball flight will be higher.

WOOD SHOT WHEN BALL IS ON UP SLOPE

WOOD SHOT WITH BALL ABOVE YOUR FEET

Stand taller making your swing rounder in shape. Be careful and swing easy. Do not hit it full out as this is hard to control.

When the ball is above your feet, go down the grip to gain greater control.

Drop your right shoulder. Be sure to follow through on your swing, otherwise the ball will go left!

A WOOD OFF A DOWN SLOPE

This greatens the difficulty of the shot as it decreases the loft of the club making it very difficult to get airbourne. If faced with this kind of shot, use a 5 or 7 wood or even a rescue club. Remember the ball will fly lower than normal.

Golf

I cannot imagine any other golf course in the world outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland that is affected as much by the wind. From one round to another, it is known that a player can experience up to an 8-club difference on holes depending upon the direction and strength of the wind. The Ocean Course, located on the eastern-most end of Kiawah Island, has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere – 10 right alongside the Atlantic, with the other eight running parallel to those. Pete Dye, the course architect, used the natural beauty of Kiawah’s seaside environment to develop an old links look reminiscent of the celebrated seaside courses of Great Britain and Ireland. Playing in the ever-changing winds at The Ocean Course requires a tremendous amount of ingenuity, imagination and adaptation in shot making. Players need to adapt their game to the conditions around them, more so than on any other course in the U.S. They also need to be capable of hitting every club in the bag and have the ability to shape shots when needed. This course is surely going to test even the greatest players in the field and will definitely make an exciting watch. Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will be among the world’s top ranked golfers who will test their skills as they take on what has been called America’s toughest course. Since 1994, the PGA Championship has averaged 97 of the top 100 golfers in the world, the most of any of the four majors. All eyes will be on the Ocean Course, as the world’s best golfers compete for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy!
