Playing in the wind 1

Tee it up with at least half of the ball obove the top of the club face.

4

The ball position is inside your left heel. Don’t get your head too far behind the ball.

18

2

Place the ball slightly forward, position your right shoulder down, so that your head is behind the ball, for a higher launch.

5

This is the normal height for teeing up an iron tee shot.

3

For lower drives, tee lower. You can even hit it from the ground with enough practice!

6

Into the wind, play from the ground.

Golf is a game of opposites! When playing into the wind, swing it easy, about 80%. Downwind, you need to swing full! Why? You ask. Well, into the wind you don’t want to impart too much spin – too much spin makes it fly higher and thus lose distance and control. Downwind, you need to hit it full so as to get the ball up and flying, with the wind carrying the ball. The main thing is to always complete your swing. Deceleration is a killer, and in the wind it will result in loss of control. When hitting the low or punch shot, make sure your follow through matches your backswing length.

7

For longer running shots use the same set up and action, just a longer club.

Ball position should be slightly back, with your weight favouring the left side.

10

8

9

For a long, low shot, the ball should be back.

11

When playing the half pitch shot, the ball position is in the middle.

With your weight and hands forward. It is important to finish the swing.

12

It is important to reduce the backswing.

But not the follow-through.
