I got crazy lucky. Like, sometimes I think I won the lottery or something. At times it feels like the bottom’s gonna fall out. Just ‘cause I don’t really know how I got here. But I just keep moving forward, and it just keeps getting better and better.” - Channing Tatum on his career Channing Tatum has been a rising star in Hollywood for the last 6 years and is taking Hollywood by storm. ‘Chan’ (his nickname) wasn’t always destined for the silver screen. l Known for his deep resonant voice. orn in Alabama, with German, Irish, French and l B Native American blood. He grew up in the bayous of Mississippi. t school, he was the athletic one, into football, l A soccer, baseball, running and martial arts. l I n martial arts he learnt wuzuquan Kung Fu under Chee Kim Thong. e was also a bit of a ladies man as he pointed out l H that “girls were always the biggest distraction in school.” Graduating he left for college on a football scholarship but soon dropped out. Odd jobs including mortgage broker, perfume salesman, construction worker and kitty/puppy carer at a nursery, filled his time until he became a stripper under the pseudonym ‘Chan Crawford’. This life was made into a documentary called ‘Magic Mike’ that he recently starred in. Of stripping, Channing mentions that “Men go to strip clubs for a pretty simple reason. It’s a carnal, visual thing. The point of male stripping is to bring women onstage and embarrass them so their friends can cheer them on. Women go to watch their friends’ faces turn red and to have a night of camaraderie with their girlfriends.” His real break was a dancer in the music video ‘She Bangs’ by Ricky Martin. From there model work came pouring in, including work for Armani. By 2002 he was also doing TV

commercials for Pepsi. Appearing in Vogue, and for Dolce & Gabbana, Nautica and Abercrombie & Fitch, he was also signed for the Italian Beatrice Model agency and Ford Models of New York. At the time, Channing commented on the modelling business “The more you try to look sexy, the lamer it is, so you just have to commit to the comedy.”
Modelling helped his life: “It’s made my life, and my family’s life, a lot easier, because I never knew what I wanted to do and now they don’t really have to worry about me any more. I’ve been able to explore life, and through exploring it I’ve found that I love art, I love writing, I love acting, I love all the things that make sense to me. And I’ve been given the chance to go out and see the world, and to see all the things out there. Not everyone gets that chance”.
”
But he found that modelling no longer tested him, so he tried acting. In 2004, he appeared in CSI: Miami and liked it so much he decided to try it out for a career. ‘Coach Carter’ was next in 2005, starring opposite Samuel L Jackson.
His big break came with the dance movie, ‘Step Up’ in 2006, playing a street dancer who falls in love with a ballerina. He prefers more serious roles and his first came in the film ‘A Guide to Recognising Your Saints’ with Robert Downey Jr and Shie LaBeouf. He plays a hood who sorts his problems out with his fists. His performance gained attention from the high brow Sundance film festival and also got nominated as ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at an independent awards ceremony. Channing seems to have a bit of a political conscience as well and in 2008, he played another serious role in ‘Stop Loss’ about soldiers returning from Iraq, and ‘Battle in Seattle’ about the 1999 World Trade Organization protests in Seattle. Next was the action movie ‘G.I. Joe: The rise of the Cobra’. At first he didn’t want to star as he thought it would glorify war, but after reading the script he saw that it didn’t. He also appeared as Pretty Boy Floyd in Michael Mann’s excellent ‘Public Enemies’. In the filming of ‘The Eagle’ he was filming a river scene and a crew member poured scalding hot water into his wet suit, (it was supposed to be warm water) which resulted in Channing’s pride and joy being burnt. The boiling water “pretty much burned the skin off the head of my dick” and “it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life.” He recovered quickly though, much to the relief of his then girlfriend, now wife Jenna. In 2012, Channing was busy, hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ and starring in 3 films: ‘The Vow, Haywire and 21 Jump Street’. In November 2012 Channing was named Sexiest Man Alive, in People magazine. 7

The Future In 2013, he’s set to return in the sequel to ‘G.I. Joe’ with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Bruce Willis. He’ll undertake a more serious role in ‘Foxcatcher’, a true story as a paranoid schizophrenic who went on to kill wrestler Dave Schultz. And he’ll be appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Side Effects’ with Jude Law.
Personal life “My mother taught me how to love. My mom is the most loving person I know.” - Channing Tatum Channing has ADD and a sort of dyslexia. In the summer he still goes back to his grandparents house in Alabama as they raised him in his childhood during the summers. On the set of ‘Step Up’, he met his love, Jenna Dewan. They started dating and were married by 2009. In December 2012 they announced that she is pregnant with their first child.
Jenna Channing’s wife is (much like Channing himself ) an actress, model and dancer. As a dancer she’s been a dancer for Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. Jenna is of Lebanese, German and English descent. She honed her dancing skills as a cheerleader in Texas before graduating, being voted prom queen and then went on to the USC, the University of Southern California. In 2004, Jenna started acting with the sitcom Quintuplets. She’s also appeared on ‘Melrose Place’ and ‘The Young and the Restless’. In movies, she appeared in low budget schlock horrors, ‘Tamara’ and ‘The Grudge 2’. Her big break came with ‘Step up’ where she also met her future husband Channing. In 2008 her years as a cheerleader came in handy, for the tv film ‘Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal’. In 2012, she was in the straight-to-DVD crime film ‘Setup’ but by 2011 she was cast in the entire series of ‘The Playboy Club.’
Personal life Jenna isn’t too hot on technology quoting ‘I’m about 50/50 when it comes to technology. I can check my email and search for stuff, but if I hear we’re on this and this and this site, then I need an exact link to get there otherwise I’m going to get lost.’ Jenna’s also an animal rights activist, a vegan and a member of PETA.
Channing & Jenna Producers Both Channing and Jenna set up a production house called ‘33andOut Productions’ together. Channing saying back in “I really don’t want to be in any more movies that I don’t produce. Unless it’s with one of the 10 directors that I really want to work with, I don’t have any interest in not being on the ground floor of creating it.” The first thing they produced was called ‘Earth Made of Glass’ about Rwanda and the genocide there. It was selected to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival back in 2010.
Overall Channing and Jenna’s future looks bright together, their political views are obviously fairly similar and that they seem to pick films to star in and make that have a conscience. They must also be all too aware that with age, looks fade and by setting up a production house they can carve a career out in other ways and make a difference.

So we’re in Spain and life is OK, the economic crisis isn’t helping matters and crime goes up in desperate times, but hey, at least it’s sunny. Well most of the time anyway! But this got me thinking, are there any better places in the world? Surely for sun and climate there can’t be many other places better. So what about other considerations? Like crime?
Iceland 10
Scandinavian countries Most of Scandinavia is a fantastic safe place to live, if a little cold. Norway has beautiful landscapes galore, colourful painted fishing villages and magnificent mountain scenery. It has a very strong welfare system concentrating in particular on women and children. Compensation for the unemployed is excellent and they offer free education. It has low crime and the population is friendly. Norway is prosperous and wealthy and everyone within has cultural and religious freedom. Finland have no real enemies any more and if you want a place to go which is quiet, then this is a great place to disappear. This is the closest country to the North Pole and as the country is snow bound for over 6 months a year, home entertainments are a priority. If you want to get away from it all, the Finland is perfect with the peaceful population and the silent snowy landscapes. Sweden has no major crime, and a peaceful population. Cities like Stockholm and Gothenberg are incredibly beautiful cities to visit and live in and the countryside is stunning as well. While Denmark, has the world’s lowest child-poverty rate as it has exceptional child services. It also has few enemies now, after beating them up a thousand years ago, when Denmark took the name of Viking. Crime is low and so this is a very safe place to live. A bit flat though. Denmark
Other European countries Switzerland has incredible mountains and a population of honest and hard-working people. It’s also fairly safe and as everyone (by law) has a rifle in their homes, then burglary is pretty low!
Switzerland
Austria has also got incredible scenery and a very low crime rate. The population is friendly as are neighbours. The recent immigration problem has resulted in a few negative incidents but on the whole Austria is still a safe place to live.
The Americas To the north, Canada has low crime and er...snow.
Islands Like New Zealand, some islands are the safest places to live.
Down Under New Zealand with a population of 4 million, is at least safe. It has a close and friendly community and it’s a bit like Britain was like back in the 50’s when you could leave your door unlocked and your things wouldn’t be stolen from the street. It has no enemies and it’s a democracy with high regard for human rights. With incredible scenery, like that seen in the films ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’, you can see rolling green hills, awesome mountains and even glaciers on the South island, this is a paradise to some.
Costa Rica
Tuvalu, is the perfect tropical paradise. With a population of only 10,000 then crime isn’t going to be much of a problem and the people are very friendly. It has beautiful scenery and if you fancy getting away from it all, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a more remote place, as it’s situated between Australia and Hawaii in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Australia
Iceland
Canada
And to the south, Costa Rica has a stable democracy and is regarded as the safest country in Central America. The population is friendly and honest and so travelling around is safe. It is said that the basis of this friendliness is that the people live the ‘Pura Vida’, the pure life.
Ireland, with a population of just over 4 million, is one of the friendliest places to live in the world. The people are hard working and happy (despite the money troubles) and with it’s culture and entertainments you will find little crime here as well.
Australia, New Zealand’s larger neighbour is also pretty free from crime (car thefts being the main problem). Mineral rich, Australia’s economy is growing each year and has the potential to be huge. With the current boom, crime is falling and that results in safety for the populace. The happy go lucky mindset of the Australian people also make this a nice place to live.
OVERALL
The number one safest place on the planet, that has been rated by visitors world wide is Iceland. Iceland has no old enemies. The people are friendly and happy. Crime hardly exists and petty thievery is very rare. There is also no drug abuse and no homelessness. In 2008, it broke from the Euro after refusing to pay off Iceland’s banks debts (built up from gambling basically). Iceland’s government didn’t think it was fair that the Icelandic population should be in hock for 40 years due to these banks. It has now one of the most stable economies in the world. Europe take note.
So islands seem to be THE safest places on the planet. Personally though, Iceland is a little nippy, Tuvalu is a bit distant and Ireland a bit wet. The Costa del Sol might not be perfect but it ain’t that bad either. 11
There’s never been a better time to
MOVE ABROAD! As an increasing number of Britons look at living overseas, the opportunities for buying a foreign home are greater than ever. Spain continues to be one of the most popular destinations for British expatriates, despite its obvious economic difficulties, as the laid-back lifestyle and the convenience of the easyJet-corridor gives it an allure that is hard to resist. More than four in five expats living in the Costas and Balearics say they have a lower cost of living than they had in the UK, with nearly as many saying they have a better quality of life and are happier than they were when they were in Britain, according to a recent survey by Lloyds TSB International. New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates narrowly beat Spain when it comes to an expat’s quality of life, while Canada and Germany are close behind. A high proportion of expats move abroad because of their own or their partner’s work – around 42pc according to the research – but the quality of life they have when they get there is a significant part of their continued appreciation of their new home. Many people move abroad for job opportunities, but quality of life is also a major factor, and many people are attracted to moving abroad because it offers them a more relaxed way of life, new life experiences or better weather. Whatever the reason for their move, our research finds that two thirds (66 per cent) of expats reported they are happier in their new countries than in the UK.”

Spain vsOrlando Property prices in France, Spain and the US have plummeted since the financial crisis, causing hardship for those living there, but presenting an opportunity for those moving to those countries. In the US, for example, prices have fallen by nearly 35pc between 2006 and 2012, according to the Knight Frank Global House Price Index. The recent HSBC Overseas Property Report showed that Orlando in Florida and Alicante and Malaga in Spain provide good value for money. For £125,000, you can buy a four-bedroom house in Orlando, or a three-bedroom house in Alicante. James Yerkess, HSBC head of foreign exchange, said: “Florida’s property market has reached the bottom since the bubble burst in 2006, with prices just starting to rise again, enabling foreign buyers to obtain a relatively large home for their budget, which is boosted by a favourable exchange rate and low level of purchase taxes and fees (5pc). “The pound-to-euro exchange rate has increased the most over the past six months, largely as a result of the on-going eurozone crisis. It is up by around 5.7pc, giving buyers with a £125,000 budget €8,563 more to spend. Currently Costa Blanca, Spain, offers the most space for money in Europe. “There is a huge discrepancy in the size of property that UK buyers can purchase on
the same budget in some of the most popular overseas locations. This is a combined result of foreign exchange rates, tax levels and the strength of the property market. Orlando, for example, offers excellent purchase power right now, but European destinations vary.” One thing to remember if you are emigrating is that you may want to get home to see friends and family, or they may be keen to visit you, and costs vary. The HSBC research shows that for a family of four with two flights a year plus car hire, the Costa del Sol is the cheapest region it looked at, with a total cost of £1,186. Unsurprisingly, because of the distance, Orlando was the most expensive on the same basis, at £4,464. So if family contact is important, this is something to take into consideration when you are planning a move overseas.

Facebook&Twitter
What do you do with a problem like Facebook?
Mark Zuckerberg
Until September last year Facebook was without doubt THE best social messaging on the planet. Myspace had died off years ago and everybody was on Facebook. Millions were joining each week and it dominated TV, news and the papers. Facebook was a fantastic place to find old friends, chat to them and also find new friends. There were internet sites on how to get the most followers for your business, how to look the coolest, how to be the coolest and all was well. There was even a marked increase in affairs due to Facebook, as suddenly old flames wanted to hook up again and get jiggy.
All this fun was the real reason why Facebook was popular in the first place and it helped to build the brand name. Until September that is, when Mark Zuckerberg the founder of Facebook got greedy. He decided to launch Facebook on the stock market and in September 2012 it floated 421 million shares (15% of the company) at 38 dollars (28 Euros) thus valuing the whole company at 104 billion dollars (78 billion Euros).
And there lay the start of the decline. With shareholders to worry about, Facebook suddenly had to make more money and that’s where the decline of Facebook begins.
Since then Facebook has changed the rules about who actually sees the photos and other things you share on your wall. They’ve reduced it so that around 20% of your stuff gets through to your friends and family. So basically now you have to post 5 times as much in order to get noticed. And part of the algorithm doesn’t make a distinction between how important the posts are. This might annoy some.
The people who it’s really annoyed are the small businesses using Facebook. They could spread the word about their products (or music, art, writing etc.) and if people liked it they could add to their followers.
15
The problem now is that only 20% of people previously following them 4 months ago can now see their new products, music or art.
business isn’t all that popular at the moment. Especially with the common man who are likely to use Facebook.
So why has this been done? Money. Now people have to pay a fee so it can get to the full 100% of your followers. You now have to pay to sponsor each post and that money goes directly to Facebook. Now this is all very well for big businesses but for smaller ones which made their entire trade from the uniqueness of Facebook? Then it’s financially disastrous. One normal sized small business estimated that they would have to fork out up to 70 thousand pounds to do something which was free 4 months before.
Even though numbers like 1 billion people are mentioned as users it’s probably in reality close to half that when judging daily usage. Many users also have another account so they can do well in one of their games and such like. Others like to pretend to be someone else. This is quite a difference when planning a business model on those numbers. It will also mean that Facebook’s popularity will wane because if small businesses aren’t happy then this will spread to all. Keep an eye out for the deletions, there’s nothing like a stampede when people move on to the next big thing.
The result for these businesses is a slowing of trade and in turn they’ll have to look for other cheaper and ideally free venues to show their wares. That means all things creative will disappear from Facebook unless you’re a loaded millionaire or a large corporation who can stump up the cash. Big businesses might enjoy the lessening of competition on Facebook but then again big
16
In fact now the whole Facebook model Is built around identity theft for business profit. You can opt out of this and keep your stuff private but Facebook have already changed the privacy settings and so what’s to stop them doing so again on the quiet.
The decline of Facebook is already happening (though Facebook denies this) and in December 2012, 600 thousand British users and over a million in the United States deleted their account. On top of this there’s the whole issue of privacy and how Facebook keeps changing the goalposts on this one. All your likes get profiled and sent to advertisers which is why those adverts on the side are all strangely relevant to you.
So is this the end of Facebook? Well yes, if a free alternative is found. People want stuff for free and if that simply means setting up a new account, then they will. There can only be loyalty from the user if there is loyalty to them. All Facebook is at the end of the day is a glorified mix between Myspace and Hotmail chat. No one remembers them but they were the big thing back in the day.
Facebook&Twitter
So what are the alternatives?
Now Instagram has been bought by Facebook so that’s out. But there’s Tumblr and interestingly Myspace has renewed itself lately and remains free. The biggest competitor to Facebook at the moment is Twitter.
A curious and simple website where you can put down your thoughts in 140 words. These 140 words can contain links to things you like, photos you’ve done or simply your thoughts for the day.
If you’re interesting you can slowly build followers who want to hear what you’ve got to say. If you’re interested in the everyday lives of other people, be it ‘normal’ people with something to say or celebrities who have little to say, then you can ‘follow’ either.
It is strangely addictive because the most curious of people can have the funniest or most profound things to say. Celebrities love it and self promote endlessly and it’s always fun to see celebrities get into slanging matches between each other.
As Twitter is free and has other specialities like ‘twitpic’ then you can load up your pics just like Facebook. It has no chat but then people with smart phones are often using other chat programs like ‘Whatsapp’, so Facebook isn’t essential there either. Hotmail also still has its chat function. And as you can connect all of them together, linking all the email addresses and the like then you no longer have to rely on any of them and can switch between. Facebook will probably survive, just as Myspace has done, but now that Facebook are starting restricting access to other people, then the idea of the best social messaging site begins to ring quite hollow.
Facebook will have to adapt to growing and changing markets and if they don’t then they’ll become history. If twitter or any other site adapts itself to greet those disillusioned Facebook users, then they could go from strength to strength.
Time will tell.

Argan Oil?
Why should you invest in
Known by the Moroccan Berber community as the “Tree of Life”, the Argan tree produces Argan oil from the kernels of the Argan tree and is one of the rarest and most expensive oils in the world. Berber women have used Argan oil for centuries to protect and nourish their skin, hair and nails from the harsh conditions in which they live. Now Argan oil is gaining popularity as a “miracle ingredient” in the Western beauty product industry. It has extremely high levels of Vitamin E and 80% fatty acids which make it perfect for healing many skin ailments as well as protecting against premature aging caused by oxidation.

Healing and Protecting The active substances called triterpenoids that occur in Argan Oil offer amazing skin protection benefits. These include tissue healing (scars), anti-inflammatory, sunprotective and disinfectant properties. The oil contains 80% unsaturated fatty acids and is more resistant to oxidation than olive oil. Argan oil also contains 0.8% unsaponifiables (a large group of compounds also known as plant sterols or sterolins). Sterolins improve skin metabolism, reduce inflammation and promote excellent moisture retention.
Anti-aging Argan is considered an effective anti-aging oil due to properties such as the high levels of vitamin E / tocopherols (anti-oxidants help neutralise free radical damage, which is important for skin exposed to polluted Western environments) and saponins (skinsoftening agents). Besides cooling and soothing inflammation, it is also reputed to help reduce wrinkles by restoring the skin`s hydro-lipid layer.

• Argan oil contains rare plant sterols (schottenol and spinasterol), not found in other oils. It is believed that these phytosterols are unique in their combination and that there are no other vegetable oils with a comparable phytosterol composition. In general phytosterols reduce inflammation and help block cholesterol absorption from the intestines. They also show anti-cancer properties. • Argan oil facilitates digestion by increasing the concentration of pepsin in the gastric juice. It contains flavonoids that act as a natural antiinflammatory both internally and externally. • The oil is considered highly beneficial for arthritic or rheumatic conditions.

As we get older, all of us lose our memory to varying degrees. Some ageing people never show any sign of memory loss and are still sharp at 90, others sadly aren’t so lucky. Memory loss can be reversed or slowed down and there are ways to limit memory loss altogether. If you follow these steps, you won’t go far wrong.
Boosting your memory l Stay mentally active As an adult your brain has dealt with huge amounts of problems and tasks to get to that stage, all were challenging. But once in adulthood you can get stuck in a rut and use tried and tested methods to solve the commonplace problems that can arise. The problem with this is that you no longer grow and you stagnate. Keep your mind challenged every day with mental workouts such as crosswords and sudoku. Learn a new language. Learn to play a new musical instrument. Get out of your routine. Try new things. Get out of your comfort zone. Make sure any mental challenge is fun. If it interests you and is enjoyable then you’ll gain more benefit in the long run.
l Sleep Getting enough sleep makes you concentrate and focus. Different people need different hours of sleep. Margaret Thatcher famously needed 30
4 hours (though she was mad) and others want 10 hours at least. The average seems about 7. As long as you feel clear headed and focused then that tends to be the level of sleep needed.
l Drink water If you become dehydrated this lessens your mental activity and aids memory loss. As you age, make sure you drink plenty of water to prevent this. About 8 glasses of water throughout the day tends to be a way to keep hydrated.
l Diet It’s essential to eat whole grains and vegetables as these contain Vitamin B1. Vitamin B12 is also essential and if you’re vegan you’ll need supplements or fortified Breakfast cereals. Otherwise fish (clams especially and trout and salmon), meat (liver especially), eggs and milk all contain B12. Alcohol lessens vitamin B1 and B12 effect, not allowing the vitamin to soak into the body. Ignoring the above diet and keeping to one of trans and saturated fats with simple carbs will mean a slowing of the brain as blood flow and oxygen is not delivered to the areas of the brain that deal with memory.
l Exercise Exercising the body exercises the brain as it increases oxygen to the brain and reduces diseases like heart problems and diabetes that effect memory loss.
Ways to lessen memory loss
The following all make you lose your memory. Stop them and your memory loss will lessen.
l Stop Smoking
Exercises like walking also use both sides of the brain and so keep this in mind when doing simple things around the house. Try simple tasks like brushing your teeth with your non-dominant hand to keep your mental faculties alive. It will be like learning all over again from childhood.
l Socialise Relationships with others is one of the best kinds of brain exercise. Harvard studies have shown those people with the most active social lives had the slowest level of memory decline. Get out there and meet people, join clubs, go to the pub, hell even walking the dog will make sure you meet someone!
l Laughter They say laughter is the best medicine and it is. For body and brain. It also engages the whole brain unlike certain emotions that are area specific. Laughter helps people think differently and more freely. Spend time with funny people, laughter is catching. Make fun at yourself and life’s problems. It’s the best way to deal with them.
l Organise If your house is full of clutter and your plans are all over the place, then you’re far more likely to forget things. Make a to-do list and cross them out when done. Clean the house so things don’t get misplaced.
Smoking stops oxygen getting to the brain and this results in less mental activity. Surprisingly social skills suffer when smoking as smokers have a far harder time matching names with faces than non- smokers.
l Focus Stop being distracted by trivia and focus on the important things. Don’t multi-task! Focus on the task at hand! By doing so you will remember it later. Don’t try to do too much at once. This brings stress. While this is fine in the short-term it can cause problems long-term, preventing memories being stored properly. Make sure you take time out and relax. Though this may seem counterproductive at the time, it will pay off in the long run as it will make you more efficient. Too much stress turns to depression. This then messes up concentration, decision making and memory. Meditation, the ultimate form of ‘relaxing’ can stop depression and improves focus, concentration, learning, creativity and memory. Meditating creates more activity in the left prefrontal cortex, the brain area connected with happiness and thickens the cerebral cortex that aids memory and mental sharpness.
Conclusion With dementia and Alzheimer’s sufferers at record levels, as you can see, memory loss can be prevented if you are disciplined and follow those simple measures. By doing so you can live to a ripe old age and still have all your mental faculties.

Clinical and Sports Massage Therapy 32
Clinical and Sports Massage Therapy is used by all sorts of people, from an active sports person or professional athlete through to office workers, housewives and any other occupation you can think of. Due to our lifestyles and professions we all experience aches, pains and injuries that affect our jobs and enjoyment of life. Most of these problems are eliminated by preventative treatment, which means you can carry on training or working and not take time off from either activity. We all expect so much from our bodies. People should treat their bodies as they do their cars. Like cars, we all need regular servicing and an M.O.T., if we are to enjoy full use of our bodies over time. So do your body a favour, book in for a massage and look after yourself.
What is Clinical Massage? We all have muscles but only a few of us know that our muscles are surrounded in a thin membrane of strong connective tissue called FASCIA. Fascia is normally moist which allows them to glide over each other as the muscles contract and release. After a period of time, through use and injury, the Fascia thickens and hardens. Clinical Massage is a unique technique that involves manually moving the muscles to separate them and stretch the surrounding tissue by working between the muscles. This adds a new dimension of soft-tissue manipulation as well as providing the advantages of a “normal sports massage.
Clinical and Sports Massage Therapy helps: RELIEVE • Backache • Headaches • Repetitive strain Injury • Muscle spasm • Stiff joints • Stress and tension
PREVENT • Injuries • Muscle soreness • Poor posture

Baby cured of AIDS? A baby born with the virus that causes AIDS appears to have been cured, scientists have announced, describing the case of a child from Mississippi who’s now two and a half years old and has been off medication for about a year with no signs of infection. There’s no guarantee the child will remain healthy, although sophisticated testing uncovered just traces of the virus’ genetic material still lingering. If so, it would mark only the world’s second reported cure. A doctor gave this baby faster and stronger treatment than is usual, starting a three-drug infusion within 30 hours of birth. That was before tests confirmed the infant was infected and not just at risk from a mother whose HIV wasn’t diagnosed until she was in labour. “I just felt like this baby was at higher-thannormal risk, and deserved our best shot,” Dr. Hannah Gay, a paediatric HIV specialist at the University of Mississippi, said in an interview. That fast action apparently knocked out HIV in the baby’s blood before it could form hideouts in the body. Those so-called reservoirs of dormant cells usually rapidly reinfect anyone who stops medication, said Dr. Deborah Persaud of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She led the investigation that deemed the child “functionally cured,” meaning in long-term remission even if all traces of the virus haven’t been completely eradicated. Next, Persaud’s team is planning a study to try to prove that, with more aggressive treatment of other high-risk babies. “Maybe we’ll be able to block this reservoir seeding,” Persaud said. No one should stop anti-AIDS drugs as a result of this case, Fauci cautioned. But “it opens up a lot of doors” to research if other children can be helped, he said.
Stomach cancer ‘spotted by breath test’ A quick and simple breath test can diagnose stomach cancer, study findings reveal. Scientists from Israel and China found the test was 90% accurate at detecting and distinguishing cancers from other stomach complaints in 130 patients. The British Journal of Cancer says the test could revolutionise and speed up the way this cancer is diagnosed. About 7,000 UK people develop stomach cancer each year and most have an advanced stage of the disease. Two-fifths of patients survive for at least a year, but only a fifth are still alive after five years, despite treatment. The new test looks for chemical profiles in exhaled breath that are unique to patients with stomach cancer. Cancer appears to give off a signature smell of volatile organic compounds that can be detected using the right technical medical kit - and perhaps even dogs.
A 10-year study of more than 3,000 women has found that dietary iron may reduce the risk for premenstrual syndrome, while potassium intake may increase it. Using data from a larger analysis of women’s health, researchers studied 1,057 women with PMS and 1,968 control subjects. They used questionnaires to establish their nutrient intake, both food and supplements, and established cases of PMS by clinical diagnosis. After controlling for various health and dietary factors, they found that women in the highest 20 percent for iron intake were about 40 percent less likely to suffer PMS as those in the lowest 20 percent.

Sperm:
when is it at its healthiest?
Autumn is the time of year most associated with bumper crops of new babies, and according to an Israeli study there may be a scientific reason for it: human sperm are generally at their healthiest in winter and early spring. Based on samples from more than 6,000 men treated for infertility, researchers writing in American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology found sperm in greater numbers, with faster swimming speeds and fewer abnormalities in semen made during the winter, with a steady decline in quality from spring onward. “The winter and spring semen patterns are compatible with increased fecundability and may be a plausible explanation of the peak number of deliveries during the fall,” wrote lead researcher Eliahu Levitas from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva. If there is a seasonal pattern, they said, that knowledge may “be of paramount importance, especially in couples with malerelated infertility struggling with unsuccessful and prolonged fertility treatments.”
For example, those men produced about 70 million sperm per millilitre of semen during the winter. About 5 per cent of those sperm had “fast” motility, or swimming speed, which improves a couple’s chance of getting pregnant. For the new study, Levitas and his colleagues collected and analysed 6.455 semen samples from men at their fertility clinic between January 2006 and July 2009. Of those, 4,960 were found to have normal sperm production, and 1,495 had abnormal production, such as low sperm counts. The World Health Organization defines anything over 16 million sperm per millilitre of semen as a normal sperm count. Taking into account the approximately 70 days it takes for the body to produce a sperm cell, the researchers found that men with normal sperm production had the healthiest sperm in the winter.
That compared to the approximately 68 million sperm per millilitre the men produced in the spring, of which only about 3 per cent were “fast.” For men with abnormal sperm production, however, the pattern didn’t hold. Those men showed a slight trend toward better motility during the fall and made the largest percentage of normal shaped sperm - about 7 per cent during the spring. Based on the results the (normal) semen will perform better in winter, whereas infertility cases related to low sperm counts should be encouraged to choose spring and fall.

6 WAYS TO SAVE TIME IN THE GYM Working 40 hours a week, family responsibilities, social engagements… with such busy schedules, it’s no surprise that many of us are trying to minimise the time we spend at the gym or in fact use those reasons as an excuse not to go to the gym at all!
Avoid Socialising
1
Although some of you actually use this as a reason to go to the gym, saying hello to everyone and finding out about the local gossip can eat away at your precious training time quicker than anything. I am not saying be impolite to people you know but a quick, ‘hello’, then head phones in your ear and starting your workout straight away will politely tell people that you do not want to be bothered and that you are there to train.
Prepare Yourself
2
Before going to the gym, make sure you are fully prepared. Untangle your headphones, create a playlist at home, fill your water bottle… all of these things add up and waste precious gym time, so make sure you’re ready to go as soon as you step onto the gym floor.
3
Do Something You Enjoy Exercise can seem like a chore if it’s something you don’t enjoy, so find an activity that helps you burn calories while boosting your mood and relieving stress at the same time. After a frustrating day, for example, try a yoga class to find your happy place while strengthening and stretching your muscles.
Avoid Peak Hours
4
If possible, schedule your workouts around peak hours when other gym goers are also trying to fit in their workouts. That way, you have your choice of exercise equipment and avoid waiting for your favourite machine. Added benefit is some gyms now offer off peak prices so you actually save money too. It’s a win-win situation!
Utilise High-Intensity Intervals
5
Even though you might want to minimise the time you spend at the gym, you can still maximize your workout with some high-intensity intervals, which burn some serious calories. Try alternating one minute of high-intensity activity with two minutes of steady-paced exercise. For example, try sprinting intervals during your treadmill workout or adding bursts of plyometrics to your strength training routine.
Multitask Your Muscles Another way to maximise your calorie burn is by performing multiple moves that work several muscles at once. For instance, do crunches on a stability ball to engage your entire core as well as your arms and legs. The more muscles you can work at once, the less time you’ll spend at the gym.

Football Newcastle United v Fulham
SATURDAY 6TH APRIL
Rafa Benitez
Sunderland on the other hand haven’t been good for much of the season, and are in real danger of being pulled into the relegation dogfight. Martin O’Neill is usually a fantastic motivator and so it’s strange to see his team not respond. I can’t see O’Neill being able to do much today either as they visit Stamford bridge and with no sign of Frank Lampard signing a new contract, he’ll want to score some goals and end up as the highest scorer for Chelsea ever. Chelsea to win here 2-0.
42
FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS
Chelsea under ‘interim’ manager Rafa Benitez have been solid but not spectacular. Considering this isn’t his team and he’ll be gone in the summer, he’s done a good enough job and looks like taking going one better than last season and ending up in the Champions League positions.
Premiership
Chelsea v Sunderland
Both teams are a little too close for comfort to the relegation zone, but both should just about have enough class and experience to avoid that disaster. France... sorry Newcastle bought well in the January window and they have strengthened considerably. Fulham have been playing well of late but not so well on their travels whereas Newcastle have come into form again at St James Park. Cisse, Sissoko and Cabaye can all score goals and I expect them to get a couple here against Fulham. 2-0 to Newcastle.
Norwich City v Swansea City
Norwich are another team flirting with relegation and aren’t quite out of the woods just yet. Chris Hughton has done a steady job and considering he’s only just taken over the team they’ve played some good football. Swansea however are flying high after their Carling Cup win and look set to seal a top 9 finish in the league. Laudrup has done a fantastic job so far and as he’s just signed an extension to his contract it’ll be interesting to see if he can take Swansea even further up the league table. This could be a pretty open game of football and I expect goals. I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.
Michael Laudrup
Reading v Southampton
Reading are done for and deserve to be relegated. If you sack your manager 33 days after him winning the Premier League manager of the month award, then you get what you deserve. How any new manager can come in with 2 months to go and change things around is anyone’s guess. Harry Redknapp perhaps? But he’s at QPR. Southampton at least waited until January to sack their manager, leaving 4 months for a new manager to have an affect. Mauricio Pochettino has done pretty much what previous manager Neil Adkins did. I do see Southampton winning here though and this might even be the final nail in the coffin for Reading. 0-1 to Southampton.
West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal
This is a potential banana skin for Arsenal as West Brom have had a fantastic season finishing up in the top 9. If Arsenal don’t watch themselves the teams around them could all usurp their position and continued hold on the top 4 that they’ve had for 13 years. Chelsea, Everton, Spurs, Liverpool, Swansea and West Brom have the potential to overtake Arsenal. Wenger made a blunder by not selling Robin Van Persie abroad and it’s come back to haunt him. They also did not buy enough quality in the transfer windows and by being tight and relying on youth, they have come up short. Arsenal on paper should win this game as they have all the superstars but as West Brom have been so good this season, I could quite easily see stalemate and a 1-1 draw.
SUNDAY 7TH APRIL Stoke City v Aston Villa
It’s incredible that eleven teams out of the 20 strong premiership can still be relegated at this stage of the season. Stoke and Villa are two of them and both should have just about enough quality to survive. Stoke have not been good this season and their normal strengths (hard tackling and strong in the air) have not been as effective. Maybe they’ve been found out like Bolton were last season. Villa will probably just about have enough to be in the top rank next season, mainly because all the others around them are pretty useless as well. I expect a Stoke win here though, which should just about ensure their survival and make Villa very nervous for the rest of the season. 1-0 to Stoke.
Liverpool v West Ham United
Spurs want to cement their place in the top 4 and with that a Champions League place, and Everton want to remain in the top 6 and possibly get a route into Europe. I thought it was madness sacking Redknapp in the summer but Daniel Levy, the owner of Spurs, brought in Andre Villas Boas who has improved Spurs even more. Fair play to Levy. Gareth Bale has emerged as a potential world superstar and if he didn’t dive all the time he would be truly class. He’ll be off in the summer though to Real Madrid or Barcelona and so Spurs fans should just enjoy his play for the rest of the season. Though Everton will put up some fight through Felliani (who will also leave Everton in the summer) I think Spurs have just too much quality. They should win through 2-0. Felliani
Jamie Carragher
Liverpool’s second half to the season has shown some signs of encouragement. They have no problem going forward like they did last season, but they’ve got plenty of problems in defence. If they can buy another centre back once Carragher retires and another decent midfielder then Liverpool could challenge for the top 4 next season. West Ham started brightly this season but have fizzled out and will also be keeping one eye on the relegation battle. Even if they are dragged in I think they’re good enough to avoid demotion. They won’t get any points here though as Suarez is on fire and Liverpool have hit good form despite the odd débâcle like losing to Oldham in the cup. Liverpool 2-1 to win.
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton
43
Queens Park Rangers v Wigan Athletic
A relegation dog fight with both teams hitting form enough to save themselves. Harry Redknapp has experience in the relegation fight with Portsmouth and Southampton and Martinez keeps doing so with Wigan. Whether Wigan can escape relegation again this season is debatable, other teams around them are also playing better so Wigan will have to fight until the last game of the season. At least Wigan can score goals and so they have a chance. Redknapp’s QPR is also better motivated since his arrival, and if anyone can save them, he can. As this game will be a tense cagey affair, I think it’ll end up in a draw. Both teams gaining one point on their rivals and living to fight another day. 1-1.
MONDAY 8TH APRIL Manchester United v Manchester City
44
Title decider. If United win then it’ll be all over for City but if City win then it’ll be game on. The stakes couldn’t be higher and what a game this could turn out to be a classic. Ferguson desperately wants his crown back and Mancini’s side have stared showing good form since Mario Balotelli left for Milan. Both Tevez and Aguero have been excellent recently and with Dzeko also chipping in the odd goal they can seriously threaten United here. City have been out of Europe since December and with them playing less games then this could make a difference in the title run in. United also have to play an extra game due to the FA Cup reply against Chelsea. If United throw away a 12 point league over 10 games then it will be an even bigger miracle comeback than last year. Ferguson and the team will be mindful of this and if they lose even one game, doubts again will appear. United
have been strong at home and both Rooney and Chicarito will want to prove something to the manager, if they can get a game that is. I have a feeling that this will be Chicarito’s last season for United as he’s being criminally underused and Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have shown interest. So who will win here today? A draw is the likeliest option and while it may Chicarito benefit United more, City will not want a stalemate. Winner takes all and I think City will go for it. They are quite capable of winning at Old Trafford and want to win. This might fall into the hands of United though by using Robin Van Persie in counter attack. A real close call. But United have shown to be vulnerable of late and giving away goals when they should be coasting, I’ll go for a city win 1-2.
SATURDAY 13TH APRIL Arsenal v Norwich City
Arsenal will have to win this one to stand any chance of getting into Europe let alone top 4. Coming out with statistics like having a 115 million transfer kitty to spend a month after the transfer window closes smacks of trying to placate the fans for another wasted season. Arsenal sold their best player to their nearest rival and allowed Manchester United the chance to win back their crown. Indefensible in my opinion. Walcott and new signings Podolski, Giroud and Cazorla have been fine going forward but Arsenal look brittle at the back and this has undermined their whole campaign. They still have a chance of 4th if they can catch Chelsea and they will go all out to beat Norwich. Norwich will try to get something from the game and will fight tooth and nail.
Even a point here would seem like a victory and make them safer in the premiership. I can’t see Norwich getting anything though and see an Arsenal win 2-0.
Aston Villa v Fulham
Crunch time, more so for Villa than Fulham but both are still in the mix for the drop. Villa have to win and Fulham haven’t been great away from home, but with the added threat of relegation this might end up in stalemate. Berbatov for Fulham has enough class to score important goals and Villa has Benteke who has been in fine form. I’ll go for a 1-1 stalemate.
Everton v Queens Park Rangers
Everton have been slowly dropping down the table as they lose form at the end of the season. This is unusual because they’re usually hopeless at the start but pick up momentum. Their good start might have created unrealistic expectations for the team and now their small squad has been found out. The arrival of the reborn QPR will also test them to the maximum. Can I see QPR winning here though? Possibly but I still think Everton are a better unit and Goodison Park is always a tough place to come. 1-0 to Everton.
Manchester City v West Bromwich Albion
This should be an appealing game to watch and as West Brom are just happy with being in the top half, City have bigger fish to fry. City know that they can win the premiership in the last minute of the last game of the season, been there done that. So the arrival of West Brom will provide a challenge but Mancini’s men should win. 2-1 to City.
One of the biggest rivalries in British football takes place here. If Newcastle can also beat Sunderland and put them in danger of being relegated then all the better. If circumstances meant that Sunderland were relegated by Newcastle then the Mackems would never live it down. Everything is too play for here and the Sunderland players will know that if they underachieve here, the fans will be furious. Expect Sunderland to play well above themselves and to clash with Newcastle players who will want to kick them when they’re down. There will be goals, there will be plenty of huff and puff and incidents. I think Newcastle will sneak it 2-1.
Reading v Liverpool
Reading are Coutinho probably relegated now and so will have little to play for. Liverpool still fancy their chances at a top 5 finish and getting into the Europa League so they’ll want to win here. With the likes of Suarez, Gerrard and new boys Sturridge and Coutinho Liverpool should dispatch a newly managerless Reading. When Liverpool are in the right mindset they could put a few past Reading. So I’ll go for 3-0 to Liverpool.
Southampton v West Ham United
With little difference between them in the league, and Southampton’s home form slightly improving (but not by much) this game has all the hallmarks of being a cagey negative game with little incident. West Ham have some pretty decent players with Joe Cole, Nolan and Carroll while Southampton have Rickie Lambert who has scored 12 goals so far this season. West
Ham have hardly scored any goals all season with Ian Nolan being top scorer with 6, while for Southampton has Lambert on 12 and Puncheon on 6. They’ve also been pretty awful away from home lately. So a stalemate would be the obvious conclusion. 1-1.
Wigan Athletic v Swansea City
Desperate times for Wigan who are trying the great escape yet again. All things good for Swansea who are guaranteed top 10 and after winning the Carling Cup are guaranteed a place in Europe. Both sides can score and with that in mind, this could go either way. Swansea are a better side but they may be a little lax now that they have no real hunger. If Michael Laudrup manages to get them focused I can see them winning. 1-2 to Swansea.
SUNDAY 14TH APRIL Stoke City v Manchester United
Stoke aren’t the same side as they were in their prime a few years back, players get older, slower and have less fight. With one eye on the relegation zone, Stoke might even hark back to the old days here. Manchester United will want a solid win to cement their place at the top of the table but I have a funny feeling that Stoke will match them today. United are a far better side but Stoke’s Britannia Stadium is a difficult place to come to and United might just struggle to win. I’ll go for a 1-1 draw.
Andre Villas Boas
Newcastle United v Sunderland
Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur
Cracking game with Spurs manager, Andre Villas Boas, wanting to prove a point by beating Chelsea and the Chelsea players wanting to beat Villas Boas who they never really took to. This is essentially a 6 pointer as both sides battle for third place. Spurs have played better football all season but they play away here and to a Benitez Chelsea side which is full of experience. Most likely this game will end in stalemate and both managers will be pretty happy with accepting a point. 1-1.
TUESDAY 16TH APRIL Arsenal v Everton
Both sides looked like they could end up in the top 4 this season, and both sides now look like they could miss out on the top 4 completely. In past seasons Everton would raise their game and play hard against Arsenal but that edge seems to be diminishing now that Felliani has been quiet. Everton’s manager David Moyes contract ends in the summer and I think the speculation on whether he about to leave is also affecting the players. Moyes has done a superb job of keeping Everton up and challenge for the top 6. He’s had no money for
45
David Moyes
players and that he’s been there for 10 years shows that he’s loyal. He himself might fancy a different challenge now and I can see him leaving in the summer. Arsenal simply must win this game to stand any chance of getting a place in Europe and with the likes of Walcott and Podolski they should win through. They’re suspect at the back however and so there may be a few goals in this one. 2-1 to Arsenal.
SUNDAY 17TH APRIL Sunderland v Norwich City
Sunderland welcome a struggling Norwich to the Stadium of light and because of their positions at this stage of the season, both teams are on pretty much even terms. Sunderland are the better side with better players but Norwich are well aware of the peril they are in from relegation. Sunderland’s Fletcher has been in good form and I think he’ll extend that scoring run here today. 2-0 to Sunderland.
SATURDAY 20TH APRIL Fulham v Arsenal
Dimitar Berbatov
A London derby with both sides wanting the points for different reasons. Arsenal have been ever present in the Champions League for 13 years and Fulham want to stay in the premiership. Dimitar Berbatov will probably shine today against Arsenal 46
as he always seems to do against some of the bigger clubs. As Berbatov is ex Spurs and Manchester United he might be receiving quite a few phone calls from players of those teams to wish him luck. I don’t see Fulham winning here but I can see a draw. 1-1.
Norwich City v Reading
The perfect game for Norwich because they play a team who’s probably been relegated by now. Norwich also play at home and if they get 3 points here then Norwich will start to breathe easier and pull away from the relegation pack. Reading have been pretty dire all season apart from a brief period after Christmas and to be honest haven’t been good enough to survive. There may be a caretaker manager in and if he can revive Reading into a team again then his next miracle will be to walk on water. Norwich to sneak it. 1-0.
Swansea City v Southampton
Southampton come a calling to Swansea in search of points but I can’t see them getting any this day. Swansea play good stuff and I can’t see them letting a pretty poor Southampton side beat them this day, especially as it’s at home and in front of their fervent supporters. Southampton will huff and puff but if they are to survive, then they’ll have to look elsewhere for points. 2-0 to Swansea.
West Bromwich Albion v Newcastle United West Brom have been excellent at home and Newcastle pretty useless away. I don’t see anything happening in this game to change season form and so I’ll go for another home win for West Brom.
Steve Clarke
Queens Park Rangers v Stoke City
Another winnable game for Redknapp’s great escape artists, QPR. I can definitely see QPR being up for this game and with the added bonus of the home crowd, I can see them beating Stoke by the odd goal. This might be in the last minute to add to the drama and so we can all see Redknapp puffing nervously and looking at his watch for most of the game but QPR might just have enough passion to win through in the end. 1-0 to QPR.
Sunderland v Everton
Everton come calling and while Everton have fallen on leaner times, they’re not that bad to fall to a Sunderland side that has lost all it’s heart. I know this is at Sunderland but I still can’t see them beating a solid (if lacking earlier style) Everton. If Felliani gets back his match fitness that he’s been lacking recently, then I can see Everton winning 0-2.
West Brom manager Steve Clarke has done a magnificent job this season considering this is his first season as a full manager. His work with Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish was shown with the excellence of their defence last season and this nous has now come to West Brom. It was a gamble to place a rookie in charge but it’s paid off handsomely. 2-1 to West Brom.
West Ham United v Wigan Athletic
West Ham are better at home than they are away. Wigan are pretty poor either way. Both teams need the points and this game could go either way. Sam Allardyce did well bringing West Ham back after relegation, but they haven’t really sparkled yet. The on-loan Andy Carroll looks like a complete waste of money for 35 million let alone the supposed 17 million contract
that West Ham can pay for him once his loan deal ends. A long walk back to Liverpool is on the cards unless Newcastle step in once more and buy him for 15 million or so. This game has all the hallmarks of a draw. Wigan will want the win, but West Ham will do their damnedest to stop that. 1-1.
SUNDAY 21ST APRIL Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City
Wow what a Sunday of football! 2 top games featuring 4 of the top 6 teams. These 2 games will go a long way in how the final standings turn out. Manchester City arrive at White Hart Lane to battle Spurs who are in fine form, and they know that if they lose this game, they may lose their Premiership title to their neighbours over in Salford. City on paper have the better team but for most of the season they haven’t been performing as they should. Spurs on the other hand have been greatly improved by Andre Villas Boas and Gareth Bale in particular has been allowed to shine. This is one of the most important games of the season and both will want to win this one desperately. I have a feeling that Manchester City will just edge it 0-1.
5th place. Liverpool have been good at Anfield of late and after beating Spurs in March they finally beat a top four side this season. If they strengthen midfield and their defence they may even get to beat Chelsea. I’ll go for a draw though 1-1.
MONDAY 22ND APRIL Manchester United v Aston Villa
Villa come to Old Trafford like lambs to the slaughter and though they’re fighting off relegation, no matter how much they huff and puff, they won’t beat United. Villa were a good side under Martin O’Neill but they’re not now, no matter how good Paul Lambert is as a manager, the damage was done when Alex McLeish turned them into a dour footballing unit. There have been flashes of good football but they’re still favourites for the drop. United will take no pity on them and I think it will end up 3-0 to United.
SATURDAY 27TH APRIL
Liverpool v Chelsea
Liverpool welcome back Rafa Benitez for the first time since he left by mutual accord. When Rafa left Liverpool, they were number 1 in Europe and missed out on the Champions league places by 3 points. The carpetbaggers that were Hicks and Gillette finally got rid of a manager who was not scared of criticising their shenanigans at the club. This game may be a close affair and if Liverpool continue their recent upturn in Rafa fortunes Benitez then this could even be a battle for 4th and
Aston Villa v Sunderland
Chelsea v Swansea City
An interesting game because Swansea can be fairly relaxed as visitors and show the world what they can do. They’ve been playing good football and with Laudrup signing another deal he can really tune Swansea into a strong skilful footballing side. Swansea can relax and play their natural game and if they gain points they can challenge for a top 6 finish, Chelsea on the other hand need the points to remain in contention for a Champions league place. This might make all the difference to the game and I think this will be a close affair. Chelsea will win it but it will be touch and go. 1-0 to Chelsea.
Everton v Fulham
Everton should win this game fairly comfortably as they are better at home than away. Fulham aren’t great away so I don’t see them getting anything from the hard working Toffees. Berbatov might spring a few surprises but I can only see one winner. 2-1 to Everton.
Manchester City v West Ham United
City should dispatch West Ham with few problems. They’re at home and in good form and West Ham aren’t. The class of Silva, Aguero, Tevez will win through in the end. While Diame and Nolan will provide some problems for the City midfield, if the City players can step up to the mark then West Ham should be swept aside. 2-0 to Manchester City. z Carlos Teve
At least Villa have a chance in this game, unlike their last. Sunderland haven’t been travelling well this season and are a pale shadow of a couple of seasons ago where they were a top ten side. Villa have every chance of winning here at home and taking all 3 points. If they do so they might even leap frog past Sunderland, so this is an a typical 6 pointer. I think Villa will win this but it will be a close run thing. 2-1 to Villa. 47
Wigan Athletic v Tottenham Hotspur
Newcastle United v Liverpool
Tricky game for Liverpool as Newcastle play well at home and raise their game considerably. Newcastle have been plagued by injuries this season and so if there is ever a time to beat Newcastle at St James Park then it’s now. This may be yet another one of those rollercoaster games that both sides score. 2-3 to Liverpool.
Southampton v West Bromwich Albion
Southampton at least are at home and so they have a chance of some points but I think West Brom will be too strong for Southampton and they’ll end up winners here. Southampton 1 – West Brom 2
Stoke City v Norwich City
48
FA CUP Saturday 13th April, 2013
SUNDAY 28TH APRIL Reading v Queens Park Rangers
QPR will fancy their chances here and this could be an invaluable 3 points to save them from the drop. Reading have been pretty bad all season and deserve to go down. If they can regroup and strengthen for next season then they can use the premier league money to come back even stronger. Reading will fight but I think Redknapp will provide the inspiration for the QPR players will go for the jugular and the win. 0-2 to QPR.
Arsenal v Manchester United
Arsenal have at times been brilliant this season and at other times they’ve been woeful. Defence as usual is their major problem and Manchester United with old boy Robin Van Persie come to the emirates thinking they have a good chance to take all 3 points. Arsenal won’t lie down though and I think their players will certainly want to show that they’re not washed up just yet. If they can mess up their old foe United’s title run in then all the better. This could be a 1-1 draw. Alex Furguson
A must win game for both sides as they both seek safety. Stoke have underachieved (or perhaps simply been found out) this season and Norwich are just happy to stay in the Premiership. Norwich have played more entertaining football while Stoke still do their thing. The problem with Stoke is that there doesn’t seem to be a Plan B and so once things start going wrong there’s no alternative. Will Tony Pulis even be there next season? 1-1 in this game.
Can Wigan escape again? Last season they won 7 in 8 games and beat many of the bigger clubs as they forged up the table. Can they do it again and beat Spurs? Personally I think they might escape relegation but they won’t beat Spurs today. They might get a draw though and I’m expecting a few goals too. 1-3 to Spurs.
Manchester United or Chelsea v Manchester City Before this semi final can take place, there is the small matter of the replay between Chelsea and Manchester United. In the first game United took the lead only to then be completely battered by Chelsea for their comeback. That the replay is at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea’s home ground. I have a funny feeling that Chelsea might edge this one. 1-0. So the final will be either Chelsea or Man U against Manchester City and will City’s fresher legs be the difference? City haven’t been involved in Europe since December. This extra rest and the fact that they’re possibly out of the running for the title, may make all the difference at the end of the season. This will be a close game but I have a feeling that City might win through in the end. 1-0.
Millwall v Wigan The winner gains a place in the Europa league, so there’s everything to play for. Millwall have done well to get this far and Wigan will have one eye on their Premiership relegation worries. Wigan should win this game because they’ve got the better side and will represent England better in Europe next season. I’ll go for 2-0 to Wigan.
Champions League Quarter-finals Malaga v Borussia Dortmund
This is probably the worst team that Malaga could have drawn, Dortmund are among the favourites in the last eight and playing very well. Having said that, Malaga are just happy to be here so anything extra is a bonus. Malaga’s manager Pellegrini is fantastic and he will make this a tight game over two legs but I still see Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund winning through.
Ties to be played on April 2/3 and April 9/10 Real Madrid v Galatasaray
Real Madrid have had a tough draw so far and beaten everyone. Galatasaray have newly acquired Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneider and that has added to their threat levels. This will be close and could go down to the away goals rule but I still see Real Madrid going Didier through. Drogba
PSG v Barcelona Jurgen Klopp
New rich boys on the block against the mighty Barcelona. Barcelona has a bad 10 days or so back in
Europa League Chelsea v Rubin Kazan
Benitez brings the best out of Torres and if he hits form at the right time, Chelsea could go on and win the whole competition. They should qualify against Rubin Kazan but they’ll have to treat them with respect because Rubin beat Athletico Madrid in the last round and so they are a danger. Chelsea to win this, but it will be tight.
Tottenham v Basel
Spurs meet Basel with Gareth Bale this time. The last game they played in Europe against Inter Milan they came very close to losing, showing the importance that Bale is to the team. Luckily
they had the underachiever that is Emmanuel Adebayor to thank for the goal that put them through. Adebayor seems to play better before a contract is signed and so maybe the way to get the best out of him is too keep him on a monthly rolling one. With Bale back, I don’t see Basel being any real threat. It will be close and I see both legs being separated by only a goal or two, but Spurs will go through to the semis.
Fenerbahce v Lazio
Both teams could win this one, with Fenerbahce second in the Turkish league and Lazio sixth in their league. Lazio haven’t been playing well recently with only one win in
february and so everyone started to write them off. That was until the 4-0 thrashing of AC Milan. Miles ahead in the league, Barca can afford to lose 2 or 3 games and still win easily and so the Champions League I think becomes their priority. I think PSG will put up a good fight but Barcelona will win.
Bayern Munich v Juventus Dortmund
Bayern looked awesome in the first leg against Arsenal and then looked tepid in the return second leg. Juventus beat Celtic and are currently clear at the top of the Italian league. So this will be a close contest and it could go either way. Having said that I think Bayern will win because they’re stronger and have more experience.
Quarter-finals Ties to be played on 4th and 11th April six and so could struggle against a confident Fenerbahce side. Fenerbahce to win both legs.
Benfica v Newcastle
A tricky game for Newcastle who have done well to get this far. Benfica are top of the Portuguese league and are in very good form and I think Newcastle will do well to keep the scoreline respectable. I think Newcastle have a chance of winning their home game but Benfica will win over the 2 legs and continue in the competition.
Golf
Tiger Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods is a renown professional golfer on the PGA Tour. With 14 major championships and 75 PGA Tour victories, he is arguably the greatest golfer ever. He has been awarded the PGA Player of the Year a record 10 times and has been on top of the money list nine times. In 2009, he also became the first athlete to reach $1 billion in career earnings, according to Forbes. He unfortunately experienced a downturn in his career following a tumultuous end to his 2009 season. A car accident the night after Thanksgiving led to revelations of infidelities in his marriage to Elin Nordegren. He had to take a leave of absence from the PGA Tour, eventually returning at the 2010 Masters. Tiger went winless in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, before ending his drought with a victory at the 2012 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Woods Early Years Tiger Woods was born on Dec. 30, 1975, in Cypress, Calif. His father, Earl Woods, was African American, Chinese and Native American and his mother, Kultida, is from Thailand and of Chinese, Thai and Dutch ancestry. Because of his parents’ ancestry, he refers to himself as “Cablinasian.” (Caucasian, Black, American, Indian and Asian). He was raised Buddhist, a religion that he stated he lost track of during his 13-minute apology on Feb. 19, 2010. His parents discovered their son’s talent for golf at a young age, and he played the sport before the age of 2. Tiger gained national attention at 2 when he appeared on “The Mike Douglas Show,” defeating comedian Bob Hope in a putting competition. At the age of 3, he shot a 48 over nine holes at the Cypress Navy golf course and at the age of 5 He was featured on the television show “That’s Incredible!” due to his rare talent. As a child, Tiger won the Junior World Championships six times and at the age of 11, was able to defeat his father for the first time on the golf course. He attended Western High School in Anaheim, where he won the U.S. Junior Amateur Champion three consecutive years making him the youngest winner of the event and the only amateur to win on multiple occasions.
His Time as a College Student at Stanford University Tiger attended Stanford University on a golf scholarship and enrolled in the fall of 1994. He wasted no time living up to the hype, winning his first collegiate event at the William H. Tucker Invitational. During his two years at Stanford, he was named a two-time NCAA first team All-American, twotime first team all-Pac-10 Conference and the Pac-10 Player of the Year. As a college student, he competed in the 1995 Masters and was the only amateur to make the cut and finished 41st for the tournament. At the age of 20, Tiger became the first golfer to win three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles. After two years at Stanford, he decided to leave school and turn professional.
Professional Career Tiger Woods became a professional golfer in August 1996 and immediately signed a $40 million contract with Nike and a $20 million deal with Titleist. He made his professional debut at the Greater Milwaukee Open on Aug. 29, 1996, tying for 60th place. He soon after won his first PGA tournament on Oct. 6, 1996, at the Las Vegas Invitational, defeating Davis Love III in a playoff. Two weeks later, Tiger edged Payne Stewart by one stroke at the Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic. His two victories and splash on to the PGA scene was enough to earn Him the 1996 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Award, and he was named Sports Illustrated’s 1996 Sportsman of the Year. Tiger’s first shot playing in a major since turning professional was at the 1997 Masters. He won the tournament by shooting 18 under par, winning by a record 12 strokes. The 21-year-old became the youngest player to win the Masters and the first African American to win the event. A victory at the GTE Byron Nelson Golf Classic a month after the Masters helped him rise to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking. It took only 42 weeks as a professional for Woods to become the top-ranked golfer in the world, the fastest to achieve such a feat. Tiger was named the 1997 PGA Player of the Year. He suffered a slump the following year with his only victory coming at the Bell South Classic on May 10, 1998. The issues with his swing were worked out and he bounced back, starting off with a win at the Buick Invitational on Feb. 14, 1999. After scoring victories at the Memorial and Motorola Western Open, he won his second major championship, winning The Tour Championship by one stroke over Sergio Garcia.
Major Dominance Tiger closed out 1999 with four consecutive victories, including the PGA Championship. His eight victories were more than enough to earn him PGA Tour Player of the Year and Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year honours. He kicked off 2000 with his fifth consecutive victory, winning the Mercedes Championships. At the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Tiger trailed by eight strokes before rallying back. Over the final four holes, he recorded an eagle and two birdies to win his sixth consecutive tournament by two strokes. At the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links, he won by a record 15 strokes over Ernie Els and Miguel Angel Jimenez. It was the largest victory margin in a major championship, eclipsing Old Tom Morris’ previous record of 13 strokes at the 1862 British Open. Tigers’ victory is regarded by some as one of the greatest performances in golf history. With a 19 under par at the 2000 Open Championship at St. Andrews, at the young age of 24, He became the youngest person to win all four major championships. It was the lowest score to par for any major championship. He won his third consecutive major championship at the 2000 PGA Championship, defeating Bob May in a three-hole playoff. He became just the second golfer to win three majors in a season. Continuing on 51
he wrapped up the season with victories at the NEC Invitational and the Bell Canadian Open. Of the 20 events he participated in, he finished in the top three 14 times and won nine tournaments. At the 2001 Masters, He defeated David Duval by two strokes, becoming the first player to hold all four major championship titles at the same time. The accomplishment would later be nicknamed the “Tiger Slam.” He repeated as Masters champion in 2002, joining Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus as the only golfers to win backto-back championships. Tiger won his second U.S. Open and eighth major championship at Bethpage Black in New York, defeating his rival Phil Mickelson by three strokes. His attempt for a third consecutive major championship came up short at the Open Championship, tying for fourth place at 1 over. He erased a five-stroke deficit in the final round at the PGA Championship but finished in second at 9 under, one stroke behind Rich Beem.
Swing Adjustments Over a span of just under three years, Tiger went without a win at a major championship. During this span, he would win 10 tournaments but his streak of 264 weeks as the top-ranked golfer came to an end in September 2004 when Vijay Singh moved to the top of the rankings. After just one victory in 2004 (at the Accenture Match Play Championship), he started off 2005 on a winning note 52
with a win at the Buick Invitational. He ended his majors drought at the 2005 Masters, earning his fourth green jacket after defeating Chris DiMarco in a playoff.
Resurgence Tiger reclaimed the world’s top ranking after winning the Open Championship by five strokes over Colin Montgomerie. He closed out 2005 with a win at the American Express Championship and finished on top of the PGA Tour money list for the first time since 2002. Tragedy struck in 2006 when his father and mentor, Earl, passed away at the age of 74 from prostate cancer. Tiger left the PGA Tour for nine weeks to deal with his loss, returning at the 2006 U.S. Open. The time away from the golf course was evident as he missed the cut for the first time as a professional at a major, ending his streak at 39. However, Tiger was back on track in time for the 2006 Open Championship, defending his title with a twoshot victory over DiMarco. He dedicated his victory to his father, shooting 18 under, one stroke behind his record-setting score at the 2000 Open Championship. At the 2006 PGA Championship, he won by five strokes over 2003 winner Shaun Micheel, his first PGA Championship since 2000 and second victory at Medinah Country Club. He started off the 2007 season with his seven consecutive PGA Tour victories, winning the Buick Invitational for the third straight year. Despite being in the hunt on the final day, he finished tied for second at the 2007 Masters, two strokes behind winner Zach Johnson. Tiger would also finish tied for second at the 2007 U.S. Open, one stroke behind winner Angel Cabrera. He was finally able to get over the hump at the 2007 PGA Championship with a two-shot victory over Woody Austin. It marked the second time Woods had won the PGA Championship on back-to-back occasions (1999-2000, 2006-2007), the first golfer to achieve such an accomplishment. Tiger cemented his victory in the inaugural FedEx Cup with wins at the BMW Championship and The Tour Championship, the final two events of the competition.
Injury-shortened Season Tiger won the Buick Invitational for the fourth consecutive year and fifth time in six years to start the 2008 season, winning by eight strokes. After another second-place finish at the Masters, he underwent left knee surgery for the third time. The operation sidelined from the PGA Tour for two months. He returned at the 2008 U.S. Open and struggled in the first round of the tournament, shooting 1 over par and
falling four strokes off the lead. Tiger moved within one stroke of the lead after a second round that saw him connect on five birdies and an eagle. He took the lead after 54 holes, heading into the final round as he looked to improve to 14-0 when having at least a share of the lead in a major championship. However, Tiger needed a 12foot put on the 18th hole to force a playoff with clubhouse leader Rocco Mediate. In the 18-hole playoff, both Tiger and Mediate shot par, forcing sudden death. Tiger won the championship on the first sudden death hole. Throughout the tournament, he favoured his left leg and it was revealed on June 18, 2008, that he needed reconstructive anterior cruciate ligament surgery on his left knee. He also said he suffered a double stress fracture in his left tibia while rehabbing from his earlier knee injury. Tiger was sidelined the rest of the 2008 season, causing a decline in television ratings for the PGA Tour.
Return to Tour After an eight-month layoff, Tiger returned at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on Feb. 25, 2009. He defeated Brendan Jones 3 and 2 in the first round before losing to Tim Clark, 4 and 2. Tigers’ first victory since his return came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, rallying from a five-stroke deficit heading into the final round. He made a 16-foot birdie put on the final hole to defeat Sean O’Hair by one stroke. While winning six tournaments in 2009 and the FedEx Cup, he had marginal success at the major championships. For just the second time in his professional career, he missed the cut at a major at the 2009 Open Championship. At the 2009 PGA Championship, Tiger blew a two-stroke lead in the final round of the tournament, losing to Y.E. Yang by three strokes. He finished the year on a high note at the 2009 Presidents Cup, winning all five of his matches. He was paired with Steve Stricker and he defeated Yang in the singles competition, clinching the cup for the United States. Tiger won the JB Were Masters in Melbourne, Australia, in November 2009, his first victory on the PGA Tour of Australasia and his final event of the year.

Layoff and Struggles After taking four months off from professional golf due to personal issues related to his marriage, Tiger returned to the tour in April 2010. In his first tournament after the break, the Masters, he finished tied for fourth place. He also finished tied for fourth at the U.S. Open but would go on to endure a tough 2010 season and go winless for a calendar year for the first time in his professional career. Results included his worst four-round finish as a pro, when he shot 18 over par and tied for 78th place (second-to-last) at the WCC-Bridgestone Invitational in August. By October, Tiger had lost the world’s No. 1 ranking to Lee Westwood. Tigers’ 2011 season got off to a slow start, with a 44th-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open and a second-round loss at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. However, he was in contention on the final day at the Masters, taking the lead at one point, before finishing 4th for the second consecutive year. A knee injury he aggravated during that event forced him to miss a month of action. He returned at The Players Championship, but withdrew after just nine holes. He was 6-over-par at the time of his withdrawal. After missing the U.S. Open and the British Open (due to the injury), Tiger then dismissed his long-time caddie Steve Williams in July of 2011, ending a 12-year relationship during which he won 72 tournaments worldwide and 13 majors. He finally ended a two-year winless drought at the 2011 Chevron World Challenge, beating Zach Johnson by a stroke to top the 18-player field. The win came the same week Chevron announced it was ending its title sponsorship of the event. The following season, Tiger opened his season at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, where he entered the final round with a 54
share of the lead. However, he shot a final-round 72, falling to Robert Rock by two strokes. In March, he nearly broke through at the Honda Classic. His final-round 62, the best final round score of his career, vaulted him into contention, but Rory McIlroy ended up holding on for victory. He suffered a set back the next week, when an injured Achilles forced him to withdraw during the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship. He returned healthy two weeks later at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and followed a first-round 69 with a 65 on Friday, taking a share of the lead. Tiger shot 71-70 on the weekend, earning a 5-stroke victory, his first on the PGA Tour in more than two years. He added wins at the Memorial and the AT&T National, passing Jack Nicklaus for second on the PGA Tour’s all-time wins list. He opened his 2013 PGA Tour season with a win at the Farmers Insurance Open -- following a missed cut in Dubai on the European Tour -- marking his seventh win at the event. His career total stands at 75 wins, second only to Sam Snead.
Ryder Cup Tiger has struggled in six Ryder Cup appearances, with a record of 1317-3. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 1997 and earned just 1½ points. Tiger was a member of the 1999 team that defeated The Europeans 14½-13½. In 2004, He was paired with rival Phil Mickelson but lost both matches. Tiger was unable to compete in 2008 because of a knee injury. In the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, Tigers’ 3-1 record included a final-day singles win, but the U.S. was defeated by Europe 14½-13½. He had his worst Ryder Cup appearance in 2012 at Medinah, going 0-3-1 overall and being benched for a session (on Saturday) for the first time in his career. His only half-point came from his singles match, which was the last of the day and was
finished after Europe had already completed its record comeback and clinched the Cup.
Presidents Cup Tiger is 20-14-1 in Presidents Cup play. The United States has won the Presidents Cup five out of the seven years he has participated in, most recently in 2011, when Tiger went just 2-3, but clinched the title for the U.S. in singles play.

Kitchen right now
Kitchen design is looking very exciting for 2013 as people are adding more personal touches to certain trends. With the economy still trudging along without a spring in its step, homeowners want to spend over the top and they want to buy smart for longevity which translates to neutral finishes for those costly items such as cabinets, countertops and flooring. Clean, modern styles with warm touches continue their popularity. A country style which includes the appreciation of nature and natural textures and finishes juxtaposed with more simple cabinet designs seem popular. There is a growing interest in open floor plans and the social kitchen, built-in and concealed appliances. Design sustainability and healthy cooking factor into the consumer’s purchasing decisions more than they ever have in the past. Faux materials with a surprisingly real look due to technological advancements such as ceramic ‘wood look’ tile and ‘natural stone look’ laminates enjoy revived interest. 62

What are people looking for when they redo their kitchens? Convenience is the motivating factor. Home cooks are looking for appliances that have convenient features, and cabinet access and storage should also be convenient, and the kitchen design overall should be convenient to use and move around in. Homeowners seek to express themselves in a personal way in terms of aesthetics and function and have the confidence to do so more than ever. Of course, homeowners are also looking to find that sweet spot between good value and stylish products of good quality.
If there’s one thing we should splurge on when we remodel our kitchens what should it be? Cabinets are the one area to splurge on as they get used constantly as do appliances, but since cabinets are made of wood products as opposed to metals and glass that appliances are made of, it is critical that cabinets be able to perform consistently over time and resist wear for nearly 20 years. Middle- to high-end cabinets are your best bet as you do get what you pay for and purchasing low-end cabinets can be a gamble.
What kitchen appliance is worth the splurge? A major cooking appliance such as an oven and hob or a range, depending on which one best fits the overall kitchen plan. The flexibility of a hob’s burners to simmer or power boost, built in timers, autocook features, convection in ovens, easy pull out racks and precise temperature control are a cook’s dream. Technology has modernised cooking appliances that we see today. Clever features, such as hobs with no burners at all are being offered by both Thermador and Gaggenau brands. Imagine being able to place a pot wherever you want on your hob!
Neutrals
Are there any popular kitchen colours trending right now? Lots of white, off whites, natural wood stains. They continue to be what homeowners want in cabinets, adding that the whites are a strong leader. Neutral remain on the upswing and touches of black add sophistication in the form of featured cabinets and/or accessories. Countertops tell a similar story as authentic colours and neutrals, particularly warm grays, create an understated look which allows pops of colour to be used in the decorative layer.
Whites
So if you are thinking of sprucing up your kitchen this Spring be sure to take these tips on board for a stylish yet extremely efficient kitchen that does not need to cost a fortune. 63

As a new four-door coupé it follows the idea of the CLS, whose design concept has spawned more than its fair share of imitators since its debut in 2003. The newcomer features a radar-based braking system (COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST) as standard which is able to warn the driver of an obstacle from a speed of 7 km/h and to initiate precision braking when the driver steps on the brake pedal. “The resonance created by the Concept Style Coupé was overwhelming. By far the most frequent comment heard was: ‘please put this car into series production’ And that’s exactly what we’re doing now”, said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The CLA is a car that does not confuse mid‑range with mediocrity. Its powerful design underscores the sporty side of the Mercedes-Benz brand.” In keeping with its sporty positioning, the CLA is available with high-torque turbo engines rated at up to 155 kW (211 hp), sports suspension and 4MATIC allwheel drive. The technical highlights of this new design icon include a new world record in aerodynamics for series production automobiles (Cd value: 0.22) and numerous driving assistance systems, including the 68
further-developed COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST. This radar-based assistance system provides the possibly distracted driver with visual and acoustic warnings of identified obstacles and prepares the adaptive Brake Assist system for precision braking. Braking is initiated as soon as the driver steps emphatically on the brake pedal. When an impending danger of collision is identified, the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system calculates the precise braking force ideally needed to avoid an accident and makes the best possible use of any distance remaining. As a new feature, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST affords protection from typical rear-end collisions in dangerous traffic situations in the CLA from a speed of only 7 km/h (previously: above 30 km/h). Five lines and packages that vary greatly in character are available to individualize the striking compact midrange coupé. In keeping with the digital lifestyle of the CLA’s social media-savvy target group, smartphones can additionally be fully integrated into the vehicle’s display and operating system. The CLA Edition 1 will only be available for twelve months. Among the exclusive equipment features of this model, which can be powered by any of the engine versions, the NEON ART interior with leather upholstery and black DINAMICA microfibre with yellow contrasting topstitching is worthy of mention.
The design Its breathtakingly sporty proportions and powerfully dynamic design idiom, with its interplay between concave and convex surfaces give this four-door coupé its unmistakable look. The vehicle’s striking features include the bonnet embedded in the front end with power domes and the diamond radiator grille. The light modules and LEDs behind the headlamp cover glass have been arranged in such a way as to create the characteristic “flare effect” for the daytime driving lights and indicators. This light signet defines the car’s energetic appearance and shapes a new Mercedes face.
Numerous details indicate that on a design level the CLA represents a further development of the modern classic Mercedes-Benz CLS. Three prominent lines give structure to the vehicle when viewed from the side: the front structural edge over the wings flows towards the rear end in a characteristic dropping line.
Another, more sinewy line spans the shoulder muscle above the rear axle, while the third feature line extends in a sweeping curve from the front wheel towards the rear. Together, these lines lend depth and dynamism to the side profile.
The width-emphasizing rear end radiates power and athleticism, featuring interplay between convex and concave surfaces and edges. The gently sloping roof contour and the pronounced, hallmark curvature of the rear window provides the CLA with a coupé-style character from the rear, too. The athletic impression from the rear results from the drawn-in C-pillars in conjunction with the shoulder muscle over the rear wheel arch linings. The tail lights are framed by the muscular lines of the shoulders which extend into the rear end, the horizontal orientation of the lights emphasizing the rear’s powerful and aesthetic breadth. The light functions feature an arrow-style arrangement.
A large panoramic sliding sunroof is optionally available. This sunroof consists of a fixed polycarbonate cover at the front, a moving element made of mineral crystal and side trims to match the glass look.
“
The CLA is a car that does not confuse mid‑range with mediocrity. Its powerful design underscores the sporty side of the Mercedes-Benz brand.

DO YOU NEED MONEY? LÍNEA DIRECTA IS GIVING AWAY UP TO €300 IN CASH Línea Directa Aseguradora is the insurer of choice for foreign residents in Spain. Since 1998, it has offered all its services in both English and German, including the purchase of the policy, handling claims, forwarding documents and 24-hour road assistance. It has now taken another step in its commitment to its foreign policyholders with a remarkable offer: Línea Directa is giving its customers up to €300 when they recommend the company’s excellent car and home insurance to their friends and family.
How does it work? It’s very easy. For each person purchasing car or home insurance, that has been recommended by a Línea Directa customer, the company will give €30 to both the current policyholder and the new customer. To qualify for this offer, the new customer must call the company with the name and ID number (NIE or passport) of the person who recommended Línea Directa and, if the policy is finally signed, both parties will receive the money in 45 days. The offer is limited to a maximum of 10 people per customer, which could result in a profit of up to 300 euros, a considerable amount in the current economic crisis. The offer, the only one of its kind in the insurance sector, will be valid until June 30 2013.
