Will I Am is one of the biggest stars on the planet‌ collaborating with some of the hottest names in music, William Adams has now become the biggest songwriter, artist, entrepreneur, actor, producer and philanthropist of the 21st century.
10
B
orn in March 1975, Will I Am grew up in a neighbourhood in East Los Angeles and was always destined to become a star. Attending school in the more affluent West side of the city, Will’s mother encouraged him to be unique and told him to pursue a career in music. It was at school that Will met and became lifelong friends with Allan Pineda (who would soon become apl.de.ap) and the two started performing in L.A Clubs with three other musicians. The five entertainers soon formed the band Atban Klann. The band was performing one night when they caught the eye of record bosses and in particular Eazy-E who later signed them to his label Ruthless Records.
apl.de.ap
Will and Atban Klann worked with Eazy-E, even releasing an album, until Eazy’s death which prompted Will to replace one of the musicians with Jamie Gomez, or Taboo as he is known to fans now. The band decided to change their name to the Black Eyed Pods but later in 1998, they replaced it with the now familiar Black Eyed Peas. Releasing two albums the band were signed by Interscope Records, who helped them gain recognition and achieve relative notoriety for their music, with songs appearing on soundtracks and played in clubs. Around the same time, Will began
recording his first solo album, Lost Change, which became a critical success and cemented his status as a singer and musician to watch out for.
In 2001, the band, consisting of just three members (Will I Am, apl.de.ap and Taboo) began work on their third studio album Elephunk and it was during the production of the now famous single Shut Up, that they realized a female voice would make the song sound even better. Originally Nicole Scherzinger (of Pussycat Doll fame) was approached to put her vocals to the record as a guest performer, but, as she was contracted to another band, she was forced to decline. Former Peas member Dante Santiago and continued friend of Will, knew an up-andcoming singer called Stacey Ann Ferguson (Fergie), whom he introduced to Will and her vocals were added not only to Shut Up but to the whole album, making her status in the Peas permanent. Fergie
The album gained commercial and critical success, not only in the U.S but around the world, with the singles, Where Is The Love?, Shut Up and Hey Mama all reaching high chart positions. Around this time Will also recorded his second solo album, Must be 21.
It was after the release of the Black Eyes Peas fourth album Monkey Business, which garnered worldwide accolade and earned the band their first Grammy award, that Will and the band decided to take a break and concentrate on their solo careers.
The Grammys, 2005
It was then that Will’s producing career really took off, with some of the biggest names in music wanting to work with the star. Singers including Fergie and Michael Jackson, who requested Will’s expertise, to produce his new album – the pair worked together until Jackson’s death in 2009. In 2007, Will co-created an allfemale band Paradiso Girls and collaborated with them on his next solo release, Songs about 11
12
Girls, creating hits including I Got It From My Mama, One More Chance and Heartbreaker. Overall, the album didn’t fare that well with critics and it wasn’t until Will collaborated and featured on the albums of Flo Rida and Usher that his solo singing career was noticed once more. During the 2008 Presidential campaigns, Will announced that he would be masterminding a political album entitled Change Is Now in support of Barack Obama. The four main singles on the album featured appearances from supporters of Obama in videos that chartered the now-Presidents success and events leading up to his victory. Stars in the videos include Scarlett Johansson, John Legend, Amber Valleta, Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Alba,Fergie, Macy Gray, Zoe Kravitz, Kayne West, Taboo, Kevin Bacon, Seal, Bono, Mary J. Blige and Faith Hill, among others. After the success of the political album, Will I Am announced that the Black Eyed Peas would be reforming and their first comeback single Boom Boom Pow was a great success, as were the following three singles before they released their album The E.N.D. The triumph of the album encouraged the band to release another in 2010 entitled The Beginning as well as a world tour. However the band and Will wanted to do more solo projects so once again they disbanded and Will worked with more big names in the industry. Collaborating on songs with Flo Rida, Akon, Cheryl Cole and Rihanna, as well as writing (and producing) Usher’s smash hit OMG, firmly established Will as the producer to have on an album. It was during the production of the Black Eyes Peas last album that Will began recording his fourth solo album. The singer collaborated with some other big names for the album including Nicki Minaj and Steve Aoki but it was after recording music for the film Rio which also features on the album that Will decided to change its name from Black Einstein to #willpower.

Since then other musicians have also been featured on the album which was finally released on 19th April - including Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Chris Brown and Britney Spears who sung Scream & Shout with Will, gaining chart topping success. Aside from music, Will has lent his hand to a variety of projects including fashion, tv, and movies as well as charitable organisations. He began designing his own fashion collection in 2001 after expressing an interest in design while attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in L.A before the Peas success took off. His signature clothing line debuted in Las Vegas in 2005 and he then collaborated with Blue Holdings to design the denim range i.am Antik. Will has also put his creative talents to other uses including car design, recently launching the company IAMAUTO and creating a customised car complete with crazy futuristic design and amazing gadgetry implements including car door unlock using his iphone. The star lent his voice to animated movies in recent years‌creating the voice of Moto Moto in the hilarious Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa, as well as Pedro in the highly colourful Rio, both of which have soundtracks featuring Will’s vocals. Apart from animated motion pictures, Will made his big screen debut in the superhero film X-Men Origins: Wolverine playing John Wraith alongside Hugh Jackman; and appeared as himself in the comedy Date Night with Tina Fey and Steve Carell.
Last year saw Will take to the small screen in the much anticipated talent show, The Voice UK, as one of the coaches / judges, something the producers thought he would be great at, as he has a nurturing nature and is not afraid to tell it like it is. In preparation for the job, Will is said to have spoken with friend Cheryl Cole (who worked on The X Factor) for tips and advice.
The second series of the show is currently airing on BBC1 on Saturday nights and Will has many projects moving forward over the next year. #willpower and the latest single released from it, #thatPOWER with Justin Bieber, are both available on iTunes and the musician is hoping to take it on a world tour this year.

Holiday Scams Bogus holiday salespeople
!
l B efore you even leave the UK or your country of residence you could become the victim of a scam holiday company: the internet and teletext provide a cloak of anonymity for such fraudsters looking to make easy money from innocent holidaymakers. l T he old saying that if a deal looks too good to be true then it most likely is, is increasingly relevant in the internet age. While it’s tempting to try and cut back on costs, you are better off paying a bit more with a reputable company you can trust. Check if the company is a member of a trade body such as The Travel Association (ABTA) or the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO). Always be suspicious if the site has a large credit card loading fee or says it does not accept payment by card.
The tour rep
!
l P articularly with package deals, your tour rep may seem like somebody to trust: he or she should know the area and the best places to go to have a good time after all. l H owever, chances are he or she will have local contacts too and they’ll line your rep’s pockets if he/ she sends punters their way. l B eware of your rep’s recommendations for eating out and day trips because they are not necessarily the best places. l I t’s your holiday, so why not take some extra time to explore and trust your own instinct when it comes to choosing what to do. Alternatively, buy a guide book or check out TripAdviser for recommendations from fellow travellers. 16
Paying over the odds or falling r victim to scammers could be you ticket to a holiday from hell! Here are some fraudsters you want to stay well clear of when it comes to your holiday this summer.
Pickpockets
!
l T hieves come in the form of pickpockets, scam artists, burglars and more frequently muggers. As tourists we are prime targets for these thieves. We tend to carry valuable objects and are unlikely to hang around to be witnesses at trials. However, with a little forewarning and exercising some foresight we can significantly reduce our chances of becoming targets. Many if not most pickpockets work in groups. All take advantage of your attention being on something other than your pocket, usually by providing their own misdirection. Here are a few examples: l B eware of the man that steps on your leg and then wants to brush off the dirt. While you’re watching him, his partner is going through your pockets. l B eware the colourful character that comes up to you to sell a scarf, flower, tell your fortune, give you an herb, etc. If you take out your wallet to buy or give money, you will be amazed to be told “no, not necessary” as her hand zips or shuts your wallet for you. Later, of course, you will find your money is gone and again be amazed by this colourful character’s sleight of hand. l B eware if coins or other objects are accidentally dropped in front of you. (As you assist in picking them up, another person is assisting in the removal of your wallet). l B eware if groups of individuals (usually women or kids) suddenly surround you, sometimes holding a paper in front of your view. l B eware if an individual tries to polish your shoes without your permission.
Fake taxi drivers
!
l O pportunists or fraudsters looking for a quick buck tout themselves as taxi drivers to lure tourists at the end of a night out, lurking around to take advantage of your post-drinks relaxed state. At the start of the night make sure you clock where the proper taxi ranks are and never get into an unmarked taxi.
Fake policemen
!
l R esearch from Which? showed 5% of travellers have encountered someone posing as a policeman in the last two years. l Y ou may think you would never fall foul of this, but these scammers are confident, cocky and prepared to take advantage of your relaxed mood. l P lain-clothed ‘policemen’ will ask holidaymakers to see their passport or drivers licence and even ask for cash, on the pretence that you fit a suspect’s description. They then run off with your passport and/or money.

Signs a of Are you in a rebound relationship? The definition given for such a relationship according to the Wikitionary is ‘A relationship usually short in duration and used to help mend the broken heart.’ In other words, it can be called a bounce back relationship or a relationship formed too quickly after the breakup of a significant love relationship. Many times people involved in relationships also get into rebound relationships if they want their existing relationships to end especially when they have already emotionally distanced themselves from their partners. For many, Rebound flings serve as a distraction to forget the hurt, emotional pain and loneliness after the break up. Many people get into such relationships as a quick fix to forget their old partners and move on with their lives rather than feeling miserable over the relationship which ended. For some others it is the fear of being alone after a broken relationship which prompts them to get into the dating scene again fast. I understand that it is quite natural that one would want to leave behind a bad relationship and move forward in life, but the majority of times rebound relationships only bring regret and further hurt. However, there are many signs to identify if you or your partner is involved in a rebound relationship. A Rebound Relationship is a relationship one may get into immediately after coming out of one. It may happen after a divorce or break up of a love relationship. Rushing into rebound relationships often ends up with more hurt and pain. Have you or any of your friends rushed into a new relationship immediately after a break up only to get into a relationship with someone who was obviously all wrong and then regret it? This is one of the most common after effects of Rebound Dating.
24
It is only natural to feel lonely or scared of being alone after a break up. But it would be wise to give your heart some time to heal. There is no point in getting scared to date again after a failed relationship. All you have to do is accept and believe that the earlier relationship was not meant for you, rather than holding on to it and crying over it, and believe that something better is in store for you. Dwelling on the past can only make one miserable.
Below are ways of identifying a rebound relationship. 1. Getting into a Relationship too fast: This is the most common sign of a rebound relationship. Especially if you have been in a long-term relationship which went sour it is a natural feeling that you may want to bounce back to forget the hurt and pain of the previous relationship, get over your ex and get into a better relationship. It may act as a distraction or a form of catharsis, but remember not to allow your sense of urgency to rush in the wrong direction causing further heart break. 2. Expecting the qualities of an ex, or those he or she lacked, in the New Partner: Another common sign is expecting your new partner to make up for the shortcomings and mistakes of the old partner or expect him/her to have the qualities and traits you admired in your previous lover. It is also a normal tendency among many to draw comparisons between your current and ex partner and talk openly about it. This type of behaviour can make a person become too demanding and ruin the new relationship too. 25

San Pedro, Marbella
3. Using others a rebound for self satisfaction or as a tool of jealousy: Many people get into a rebound mode with the intention of hurting their ex or to show that they do not matter anymore, without any intention of commitment or involvement and masking the purpose with the new person involved. It can be either way and usually someone ends up being used or hurt as a result because once the purpose of the rebound relationship is served, that person would be abandoned. Beware of rebounders who may use you to distract themselves from the pain of a broken heart and then move on, leaving you to pick up the pieces. It is always best to be honest with your new relationship partner about your intentions. 4. U nhappiness: Many times, people get into rebound relationships as a way to hit back at those who abandoned them. They may show themselves as outwardly happy when actually they feel miserable and guilty that they are doing something wrong. If you are in a relationship too soon and unhappy with the present partner, then it is probably a rebound fling you are into.
5. Not able to forget the ex: This is another prominent sign that though you may have jumped into a new relationship soon after your breakup or divorce, you keep thinking of your ex more than your current partner because you have not fallen out of love with your ex still. One may also not feel the same way about the other and then find themselves drawing comparisons between the current partner and the ex. If the old relationship interferes with the progress of a new relationship then chances are that you’re stuck in a rebound. Similarly, if you are involved with someone who had a recent break up and he/she keeps rehashing problems from the past relationship within the new relationship, this is a clear sign that they haven’t moved on enough to fall in love again. It also could be a sign of a rebound affair if you prefer frequenting places you have gone with your ex, along with your new partner. As long as you harbour feelings for an old love, a new love can’t happen. According to Feng Shui you have to make way for the new by clearing the old.
When you develop a relationship quickly after one ended, it is rarely based on love and most often does not last for long. However, for many, rebounding can feel like love because of their craving for love and commitment. Many may convince themselves that they are in love when in reality they are really missing the relationship they left behind. It would be a wise move to give yourself some time after a break up and not rush into another relationship immediately, as your judgment is usually clouded after heartbreak and you are likely to make a wrong decision.

Flip-flops have become an essen tial part of our everyday wardrob e living in Spain. You can’t deny the ease and practicality of flip-flops, yet you have to acknowledge that showing ski n isn’t appropriate for every situati on . That’s why this collection of dos an d don’ts is specially designed to he lp you hoof it in the heat.
o’s D . Be buffed
Dont’s . Work it

. Get hippified
Summer is the season where our feet come out to play in public for friends, family and strangers alike. A DIY clip-and-scrub is a must. Manky feet are a no-no.
You can hear the slip-slap sound of a pair that’s too big from a mile away. And seeing the embarrassing toe-curl created by a pair that’s smaller than it should be isn’t much better. Sizing can be tricky since flip-flops are typically made in ranges to cover half sizes (like 9-10 or 11-12). The rule: They should extend just past your heel. Pick a pair closest to your trainer size, and always remember to try them on first.
. Replace frequently
Unlike a leather lace-up or even a canvas-clad slipon, your flip-flop collection needs to be replenished every summer. It’s not just to capture the latest trend -- though that’s an added perk. The reason you need to stock up on an annual basis is because a flimsy flip-flop simply can’t hold up to repeated beatings by sun, surf and sand.
. Rub ‘em down
Flip-flops have a relatively short lifespan – a single season could (and probably should) end in their demise. Fortunately, a little care can extend their days. Wipe your flip-flops with a clean, damp cloth after each use. For models fashioned in foam, which bruises easily, a bath of soap and water is what works. When it doesn’t, chuck ‘em in the rubbish.

The office is no-no number 1 for flip-flops. They’re never acceptable. Wear proper shoes.
Some flip-flops are burdened with extraneous closures and clunky soles. You know, the Teva/Birkenstock variety that normally accompanies a hike in the woods. But flip-flops are best in their most basic form: A between-the-toe strap affixed to a firm but flexible bottom. One made of synthetics like plastic and foam is fine – even ideal in many cases.
. Go the distance
Flip-flops are super-specific footwear. They’re great for a trip to the beach, an errand in unbearable heat or lounging around on a Sunday Afternoon. But take flip-flops out of these environments, and the results can be disastrous. Walking for more than two continuous hours without the orthotic support your precious feet demand could lead to a host of health problems from tendinitis to back pain. Hopefully, you already know that getting all DIY in the garden while wearing a pair of plastic flip-flops is not a good idea.
. Feel the burn
Any type of footwear worn sockless (which, unless you’re a Eastern European tourist, is preferable) runs the risk of causing cuts, burns and blisters due to an increased level of chafing. But the problem is worse with flip-flops, because your feet are exposed to the elements. One poke or jab from an external object can spell serious injury. Spare yourself the pain and cover up when your feet are showing signs of abuse.
-Flops n Here are some Flip-flops for men and wome that are popular this season. Croc band
These are Casual comfort. For any season, any reason – whether warm, hot, or when you’re feeling cool. Slide those feet into the comfortable always-ready style of men’s flip-flops from Crocs.
Havaianas
This brand offers a variety of great rubber flip-flops that are perfect for any occasion. The signature brand of style, comfort, affordable luxury and positive energy combine to give you options like their colourful Graffiti men’s flip-flops, inspired by some of Brazil’s great street artists, or their University flip-flops aimed at both men and women. For a more modern look, check out the Urban Style line.
FitFlops
They are incredibly comfortable. Unlike most flip-flops that require you to scrunch your toes into claws to stop the things flying off, the webbing and upper of the FitFlop hold the foot snugly. The squidgy middle section is wobbling imperceptibly, forcing the muscles to work harder. Just as walking in sand is harder than walking on concrete, this is the feeling you get as they are a great workout for your calf muscles. All in all, walking in FitFlops requires 15 per cent more energy than ordinary walking. Why not buy a pair.

LÍNEA DIRECTA REPORTS ON NEW LEGISLATION FOR PAYING FINES On March 4th this year, new legislation governing the payment of fines for traffic offences was introduced in Spain. According to the new law, drafted and passed by the Spanish Directorate-General of Traffic (Dirección General de Tráfico) and the Ministry of the Interior, the payment of traffic fines in cash will no longer be accepted, and only payment by debit or credit card will be allowed. The authorities have cited security and economic efficiency as the reasons behind their decision due to the fact that once this new measure has been introduced, the risks and expenses involved with transporting money, will no longer exist. According to the DGT, the measure will only apply to the payment of fines. All the other administrative operations carried out at Provincial Traffic Headquarters, such as processing or renewing a driving licence, can still be paid for in cash. In order to make the payment, drivers must access the DGT webpage, www.dgt.es, or call the number 060. Although Provincial Headquarters will no longer accept payments in cash, drivers can still pay their fines in cash at any post office or Banco Santander branch. In this case, drivers will still be required to provide and attach the fine reference number.

Keep your skin glowing If your skin is prone to sensitivity or simply needs a boost, small changes in your regime can make all the difference. When you have a bath or shower, ensure the water is luke warm and not hot, because hot water can strip skin of its natural oils and cause it to dry out, irritating it further.
A simple and easy solution to preventing dryness is to apply Johnson’s Baby Oil directly to wet skin (not dry) and then pat your skin dry. In days you’ll notice the difference and be one step closer to babysoft skin. Sensitive skin sufferers would benefit from using moisturisers developed for their skin type such as E45. This well-known brand is renowned for its ability to help lock in moisture and is available in a number of different products. The basic moisturising lotion is also fragrance-free.
Keep your skin clean The hot weather and sunshine may be good for your vitamin D intake but if you suffer from spots or breakouts pay particular attention to your face in the sunshine. Sweating and sunshine can play havoc with your skin as you produce more sebum, which clogs the pores and leads to nasty pimples. It goes without
saying that regularly cleaning your face and avoiding squeezing or touching pimples no matter how tempting it may be can help. Never go to bed with make-up on because this can clog the pores up. Leave a packet of face wipes or facial pads in your bathroom and use these to remove your make-up every night. Other top tips for clearer, smoother skin include looking for products containing salicylic acid to help keep pores clear and to take your time when cleansing your skin. Spend a minute massaging it (cleanser) in gently using a circulation motion. This will boost the circulation and brighten your complexion. Also avoid scrubbing you skin too hard as this can cause irritation and exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells - this will also brighten your complexion.
Keep your skin hair-free
Prepping is key to giving the ultimate hair removal experience. Make sure you exfoliate and clean the skin, and always moisturise afterwards as this will keep the skin soft and looking radiant. There are many solutions now available, including home IPL kits that take the pain out of hair removal, but shaving is perhaps the quickest and most versatile.
Exfoliate with body scrubs
Keep your skin in tip-top condition by exfoliating once or twice a week using a body brush or salt scrub to remove dead skin and give your circulation a boost.” Soap & Glory Flake Away or Dead Sea Salt Magic Brushing. And if you get the odd in-growing hair, rubbing lemon juice on to the affected area - the fruit acids help to exfoliate the skin which should relieve the problem.
Fake tan For a quick-fix use wash-off tan as it instantly gives luminous glowing colour without the commitment of self-tan and because it sets when dry, there is no risk of it coming off. It’s so quick and easy to use, make sure you always apply with a mitt and lightly massage into the skin. For a light golden glow, try Ambre Solaire No Streak Glow Spray or Bourjois’ Délice de Soleil Bronzing Spray, which dries instantly.
Also, avoid the temptation to exercise straight after you’ve completed hair removal. Waxing is also effective however takes much longer because it requires hot wax to remove hair at the root but this does leave your pores open and so your skin is more susceptible to infection or irritation, so give your skin time to recover. 35

Peter Andre in Radioactive Scare Singer Peter Andre spent nine hours filming next to a leaking nuclear power plant, it has emerged. The TV star was shooting his reality show ‘Peter Andre: My Life’ at Dungeness B in Kent last month unaware that it was spilling a radioactive material called tritium into the atmosphere the entire time. Was Rhianna really ill? Many fans were left very angry earlier this week when Rhianna suddenly pulled out of a gig in Houston, Texas due to an “undisclosed illness” – the third time she’s had to do so while on her Diamonds tour. She then further infuriated her devotees when she failed to offer an explanation for missing the performance, despite seeming perfectly on form at a gig in Las Vegas just a few days before hand. Now she has posted a message on Instagram apologising and maintaining that she was genuinely ill when the concert was supposed to take place. “I was sick since San Diego! I kept working because I thought two days off after the Vegas show would be enough time to recover and I f**ked up, those were two days off from hell and today is not different! I’m sad and disappointed about it! I had all kinds of plans for Houston!”
Miranda Kerr is leaving Victoria’s Secret Despite one of the heads of Victoria’s Secret protesting otherwise, Miranda Kerr will indeed be parting company with the lingerie brand. The model has told the Sydney Morning Herald that she’ll be leaving the company now that her contract has expired in order to pursue her ambition of becoming an entrepreneur before the age of 30. When reports initially emerged of her exit it was suggested that Miranda had been pushed out because she was so difficult to work with something which, at the time, was completely disputed by the company’s Marketing Director Ed Razek who simply said the rumours were “untrue”. 37

Katy Perry in potential multi-million legal row with GHD She was picked as ambassador of the brand over two years ago, however now Katy Perry is potentially facing a multi-million legal battle with GHD over her contract. Sources claim that Jamella Group, the company behind GHD, are being threatened with a lawsuit from Perry’s legal team after they allegedly attempted to drop her as the face of the brand because they claim she isn’t as popular as she used to be in Europe and therefore she is not drawing the kind of sales expected. choose wisely In the not-too-distant future restaurants and takeaway shops will have to provide health warnings on menus as part of a government campaign to prevent obesity. This is due to the fact that we don’t really know how much fat, salt and sugar is in our favourite meals. We know they are bad but we don’t realise just how bad they can be. Last summer, 21 restaurants and caterers took part in a pilot scheme which saw the likes of Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Pret A Manger trying out prominent displays of calorie counts at counters or on their menus. The Food Standards Agency says it is confident a voluntary partnership with the catering industry will eventually result in widespread calorie labelling on menus in the majority of British food outlets. “Providing clear calorie information in restaurants and for takeout food could help people make better choices and be a great help in fighting the obesity epidemic,” says nutritionist Fiona Hunter. “Whether this will be achieved voluntarily or through legislation remains to be seen.” However even if calorie labelling becomes the norm, there’s still a lot we won’t be told about our favourite meals. An investigation by consumer magazine Which? in 2008 found that a 300g portion of pepperoni pizza contained more than two-thirds of the recommended daily allowance of salt for an adult and more than a whole day’s worth of saturated fat for a woman. It also found that a Chinese meal contained more than 19 teaspoons of sugar! To help you stay healthy and trim follow this guide to the best choices and those to avoid.
42
INDIAN WORST CHOICE Chicken korma and pilau rice 1,100 calories, 60g fat An average portion of an Indian takeaway contains 3.2g more saturated fat than a woman should eat in a whole day, according to Which? With its generous content of cream and coconut you can expect a chicken korma to beat even this high level of cholesterolraising saturates. Add naan bread and poppadoms and it could easily reach 1,300-1,400 calories. Other cream-laden types to avoid are pasanda and tikka masala.
BETTER CHOICE Chicken biryani 730 calories, 24g fat Biryani has rice included so you don’t need to order rice as a side dish. Go easy on the separate pot of sauce and ask for it without the fried egg or omelette on top. Others in the moderate-calorie category include lamb rogan josh and prawn or chicken jalfrezi.
BEST CHOICE Tandoori chicken with half a naan or half portion of boiled rice 380 calories, 10g fat The healthiest Indian dish is a sauce-free one such as tandoori chicken or chicken tikka. Alternatively have any starter you like and bulk out with salad, dhal and a couple of poppadoms. A non-creamy vegetable curry can be a good bet too.
TOP TIPS! • Choose just one accompanying carbohydrate; rice or naan for example, not both. Eat only half a portion if they are huge. • If you’re anaemic opt for a balti (but skim the excess fat off the top). The pots they are cooked in add extra iron to your meal. • Avoid Indian food in unnatural hues of red or yellow as it’s bound to have artificial colours in levels higher than would be allowed in supermarket food. • Leave some of the sauce behind. It contains the meal’s highest fat and calories.
BURGERS & FRIED CHICKEN WORST CHOICE McDonald’s Big Tasty large meal with banana milkshake 1,640 calories, 89g fat You can guarantee that anything with “big” or “whopper” in the title is going to be a calorie nightmare. A McDonald’s Big Tasty burger alone has more than 1.5 times a woman’s guideline daily amount of saturated fat and with the large fries and milkshake the meal has more calories than five Mars bars. This meal also supplies more than threequarters of your daily recommended maximum intake of salt.
BETTER CHOICE Burger King cheeseburger with small fries 520 calories, 20g fat Teamed with a small portion of fries, a standard cheeseburger isn’t such a bad bet. You’ll at least get some calcium from the cheese and iron from the burger and the calorie count is manageable. It does contain half your daily salt and 40 per cent of a woman’s recommended intake of saturated fat, though, so save for an occasional treat.
BEST CHOICE KFC mini-fillet burger 273 calories, 9.3g fat Opting for mini-portions is the best way to satisfy a fast food craving without ruining your waistline and you’re likely to feel no more or less satisfied a couple of hours later. A KFC fillet burger contains less than a 10th of a woman’s daily recommended limit of saturated fat and it’s high enough in protein to curb the appetite reasonably well. Alternatively, choose a McDonald’s Happy Meal or a McDonald’s snack wrap.
TOP TIPS! • Swap your fries for healthier side orders such as sweetcorn or beans. • Choose water or orange juice rather than sugary fizzy drinks or milkshakes. • Avoid the temptation to “go large”.

CHINESE WORST CHOICE Battered sweet and sour pork with special fried rice 1,100 calories, 37g fat Battered, deep-fried pork balls with sugary sweet and sour sauce adds up to well over half your daily calorie intake and can have up to 19 teaspoons of sugar if you eat all the sauce, a Which? survey revealed. It’s best to avoid battered options completely as this is where the calories really lie. Fried rice has 50 per cent more calories than plain.
BETTER CHOICE Chicken chow mein 860 calories, 30g fat Still not a top choice if you’re trying to lose weight but chow mein is one of the more nutritionally balanced Chinese meals, especially if you ask for extra vegetables (or swap the chicken version for a mushroom one). It has less saturated fat than battered dishes and only moderate salt levels. Other reasonable choices include beef in black bean sauce and chicken with cashew nuts.
BEST CHOICE Szechuan prawns and vegetables with half a portion of steamed rice 589 calories, 14g fat Look for steamed or wok-fried dishes, preferably those with seafood and/or vegetables to ensure the lowest-fat choice. Szechuan prawns or prawns with ginger and spring onions fit the bill perfectly.
TOP TIPS!
PIZZA
WORST CHOICE
Half a large stuffed-crust, meat feast pizza 1,600 calories, 70g fat A stuffed doughy base and the cheesy, meaty topping make for a very fattening, blood pressure-raising, artery-clogging choice.
BETTER CHOICE Individual ham and pineapple pizza 772 calories, 26g fat If you still want something meaty, ham and pineapple is a relatively healthy option; as long as it’s on a thin and crispy base.
BEST CHOICE Half a medium tuna, anchovy and olive pizza 403 calories, 15g fat Seafood or vegetarian options are best if you are watching your weight. Anchovies, capers and olives add taste with few calories.
TOP TIPS! • The thinner the base the better. • To get the balance right, use a plate and fill half with pizza and half with a big pile of undressed salad. • Add some sweetcorn or peppers.
WORST CHOICE
FISH & CHIPS
Pie and large chips 927 calories, 50g fat Pie and chips from a chippy is loaded with saturated fat and probably won’t even fill you up that well given that it contains a relatively low level of appetite-curbing protein.
BETTER CHOICE Medium cod or haddock and chips 838 calories, 48g fat Fish and chips provides protein, vitamins and iron and no chemical additives. Team with a glass of juice and some vegetables to make a more balanced meal.
BEST CHOICE Mini-cod and a potato scallop 555 calories, 30g fat A mini-cod is easier to work into your daily calorie allowance and still supplies you with plenty to eat. Team it with a traditional potato scallop, which is lower in calories than chips.
• Avoid fattening side orders such as spring rolls, crispy seaweed and prawn crackers.
TOP TIPS!
• Try a portion of stir-fried vegetables as an alternative to rice.
• Swap your chips for a portion of mushy peas and you’ll be adding a vegetable portion as well as cutting calories.
• Don’t eat all the batter

Since Marina Brass was very young, she showed great interest in sport. She started working when she was 17-years-old in different sports centres in the city as a funky and hip hop trainer. Although she used to go to the gym every day, she never visited the weight lifting machines until she was 20 when she met a male bodybuilder who encouraged her to train. That was how she started being interested in fitness and the results were soon incredible. In only seven months of training at just 21 years old, she began competing and receiving great triumphs. Marina quickly caught the eye of various sport magazines and product manufactures and from that moment on, her great career as a fitness model started. After spending a year competing and taking part in world championships, she decided to take a break and go on holiday to Los Angeles, California. As most do in the fitness industry she went to the famous and loved Gold Gym on Venice Beach which was a signature place in the world to train and was a must see for Marina. A week had passed training in the famous Gold Gym when a photographer Jerry Fredick fixed his eyes on her and prepared a photographic report on Marina for the magazine, ‘Ironman’. This would be the beginning of her career in the U.S.
47
In 2007, Marina returned to Spain and continued her hard training in preparation to compete the following year. Marina did compete in several fitness championships in Spain yet at the same time her work as a fitness model in magazines, catalogues and calendars was growing. That year she decided to return to Los Angeles in order to attend to the Ironman Championship. When she arrived there, the photographer Mike Yurkovic met her and did a photo shoot for the magazine, Muscular Development. Other photographers wanted to work with her but due to her short period there this didn’t give her enough time and she had to return to Spain. Once back in Spain she signed a contract with Nutrytec Sport, which is still her sponsor today. After her two short visits to Los Angeles, she discovered that she could better promote her fitness career there. Marina decided to leave Spain in 2008 and travel back to Los Angeles to proceed with her career. It was a hard decision as Marina travelled alone and at only 23 years old found it difficult, as at this time she didn’t speak much English. Although it was quite tough at the beginning, Marina quickly started being known in the world of fitness. Many fitness photographers were taking or booking in photo shoots with her. There were big-named professional photographers such as Ralph Dehaan who works with magazines like Flex, Musclemag International, Women’s Physique World, and Body Fitness. There was also Robert Reiff, who works with Flex Magazine, Muscle Fitness, Titan Sport and American Curves. Marina has done photo shoots with celebrities such as J.C. Van Damme, Prince, Clint Eastwood and many with Arnold Schwarzeneger. 48
Marina now based back in Spain works for Physicbook, which if you don’t know is the same as Facebook but for the Fitness industry. Marina is a big part of the fitness world and does many interviews with the biggest names in the bodybuilding/Fitness world. Her website has thousands of visitors and members and she receives many messages every day. Now with the launch of her nutrition website Nutrition Discount Direct you not only get the products you are after at amazingly low prices, but you are able to message Marina and ask her advice on products, so you will be able to get the right supplement for you. But did you know that there are a number of foods you can choose to eat before you go out, or while dining out, that will actually improve your breath? Here are 5 top food tips to freshen your breath
• Tea
A cup of green or black tea can likely cut the miasma coming from your mouth through the action of a class of antioxidants called polyphenols. As long as you don’t add sugar to your tea, these antioxidants can go to work and kick out the bacteria that are causing your stinky breath. The University of Utah Health Care website also reports that people who drink tea frequently are less likely to have bad breath than people who don’t.
• Yoghurt
Sugar-free yogurt has been shown to fight bad breath after six weeks of regular consumption, probably through the action of live cultures which can drive bad bacteria out of your mouth (so make sure your yogurt contains live and active cultures!) Plus, yoghurt contains vitamin D, which also helps in the fight against bacteria. So while it might not help right away, two servings of yoghurt each day may help you get rid of halitosis in the long run.
• Fresh Herbs
Chewing on fresh herbs and spices not only kills bacteria, it also adds a fresh scent to your breath! Chlorophyll-containing parsley can help to deodorise your mouth without adding too much additional scent. If you like a more noticeable taste and scent, fresh mint, fennel seeds, anise, and cloves have also been linked to fresher breath.
• Apples
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Crunchy fruits and veggies like apples, celery, and carrots can help scrape odour-causing plaque off of your teeth. They also increase saliva production, which can help keep your whistle nice and wet and prevent bacteria from gaining a hold. Finally, chomping on an apple can help dislodge any bits of food that have got stuck in your teeth, mitigating any negative effect they might have on your breath.
• Citrus Fruits
Apparently fruits high in vitamin C help get rid of unwanted oral bacteria. In addition to ridding your mouth of some of the bacteria that causes halitosis, the vitamin C content of fruits like oranges and grapefruit also helps fight gum disease like gingivitis, which can, if left unchecked, lead to even more bad breath.
Remember, none of these foods can do as good a job of freshening your breath as the good old fashioned standards of oral hygiene. For the best possible breath, make sure you stay on top of brushing and flossing, and see a dentist for a check-up and cleaning once every six months. 53

THE BEST WAYS TO
STOP SMOKING
With the smoking ban just about everywhere in Europe, it’s probably a good idea to give up. Having to go outside for a cigarette isn’t too bad when you live down here on the Costa, but can you imagine what it’s like 2000 miles north? Nicotine in cigarettes is highly addictive and on comparative levels with cocaine. It can also provide psychological comfort to some people as it relieves stress. So giving up is not going to be easy but it is worthwhile in the end. We all know the dangers so I’m not going to mention them until later as it’s self defeating and puts people off.
So what’s the best way to give up? The following are tried and effective ways to stop.
The benefits of stopping smoking l Health Within hours, your body starts to recover from the nicotine and the harmful chemicals within cigarettes. 1. Your heart rate, blood pressure and even body temperature (all high due to nicotine) return to healthier levels. 2. The amount of air you can breathe into your lungs also increases and so your breathing becomes better. Carbon monoxide from the cigarettes also disappears allowing more oxygen into the blood. 3. Also to be considered is the health of your loved ones through 2nd hand smoke.
l Money 56
If you smoke a pack a day on average that will set you back about 2000 Euros a year. Hardly small change in these hard times.
So that’s all good right? So what are the best ways to stop l Pros and Cons Write down the good points and bad of smoking. Point out health issues, how smoking affects work and your general life. Get friends and family views on this subject. For example: one of the reasons for stopping might be that your son/daughter will not see you beyond the age of 40. Do this over time and finally when the negative is bigger than the positive its time to stop.
l Pre Stoppage As you near the day of stopping, don’t buy cartons, just buy a pack and carry a few. If you run out it’s a good thing and try to resist buying more and wait till you get back home. That process kicks starts the strengthening of will power.
l End Date Set up a contract that says you will stop smoking on that day and get others to sign it. On the stop day, throw all your smoking stuff out like ashtrays etc.
Various methods to Stop smoking l Stage 1: Smoking habits When you smoke, the brain releases dopamine and norpinephrine, these connect to the act of smoking and will be released when you are about to smoke. This can be when stressed, when hungry or even when being sociable. These habits have to be recognised and once they are you can start to stop yourself smoking. Change your routine. If you have a cigarette with coffee in the morning then drink orange juice. Change any links you may have that tempt you to light up a cigarette.
l Stage 2: Willpower The first few days will make you irritable and depressed and tired. Go for brisk walks to take your mind off the cigarettes. This will increase your energy levels and give you added will power. Remember that the first 3 months are the hardest. Remember also to stop smoking when you’re in a positive frame of mind and are in a good mood, this will help enormously in your quest to quit. But also remember that each time you resist smoking it makes your resolve stronger and you have a better chance to succeed. Cold Turkey. 90% of all smokers try just to stop smoking. The problem is that only 10% of those do stop. It’s not the best way to quit unless you have superb will power. One way that can aid you though is to remember other challenges that you have succeeded in. If you can do those other challenges then you can stop smoking. 57
l Stage 3: How to prevent craving Craving and wanting a cigarette is the worst thing to deal with. It drives you to distraction and becomes the only thing you want. But fear not! There are ways to beat this craving! Hypnotism is one of the best ways to beat the craving and there are several techniques that can be very useful. It still relies on the person’s willpower but the hypnosis certainly helps. But there are other ways to try and prevent the craving. If you can, nip into a health food shop and buy some ‘Avena sativa’ aka oat extract. Take 1 millilitre 4 times a day and this reduces the amount of cigarettes smoked for people chuffing away. For people trying to stop smoking the effects are even better. If you get that craving while at work in an office then do sit ups, press ups or walk up and down some stairs. Distract yourself through exercise is the best way to beat the craving. If you smoked to relieve stress then learn other ways to relax. Meditate, hypnosis and deep breathing can all lessen stress. Keep in mind too that giving up smoking in itself can be stressful so by learning meditation and the like you can lessen stress. Make sure you have plenty of moral support. Make sure that when you have a craving get in contact with a friend or family member, join a forum for other people quitting smoking and learn from them. Drink plenty of water as that flushes the toxins that are making your body crave cigarettes. By maintaining steady water flow throughout the day this makes the cravings easier to deal with as they are quicker.
Other Techniques • See the money you’re saving by not smoking. Save it for something you’ve always wanted to do and that way the money goes to a positive cause and each addition of cash gets closer to your goal. • Create a smoke free zone at home, in your car and in your personal space. You may have stopped but when all your mates come round and smoke like mad things it’s not going to help. • And finally, I have to mention it at some stage, but write down the dangers of smoking and place them all around the house. Be sure to include: 1. Smoking can cause impotence and low fertility. 2. It can also cause thinner bones. 3. Smoking can affect mental capacity, cause depression and harm memory causing Alzheimer’s in due course. 4. Smoking increases the risk of heart disease, strokes and high blood pressure. 5. Increased risk of diabetes. 6. Smoking increases the risk of Cancer of the lung, bladder, mouth, pancreas and others. It can also cause leukaemia. 7. Can also affect the ability to smell and taste.
58
Substitutes Nicotine patches, inhalers etc. These give you the nicotine that you want and not the tobacco. This can work if you have the back up of family and friends and if you recognise the habits that make you want to smoke. Medicine such as Chantix and Zyban can help you quit. But a doctor is needed to prescribe. You’ll miss holding a cigarette. So fiddle with something else. The electric cigarette is ideal, or those Chinese stress balls can help thus giving stress relief and a substitute for holding a cigarette. Try to drink something when you’re have a craving as this swaps the habit for something else. Or perhaps chew instead of smoking with gum (not containing aspartame), nuts, sunflower seeds or boiled sweets even.
In case of relapse If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. If you relapse then make sure you still limit it to one or two a day if you can. Then you can start again, and it will be easier now than when you were on 20 a day.
Overall The above are all ways that can work for you to improve your health and your bank balance but no one is going to do it for you. At the end of the day you have to want to stop and if you aim to live longer, last longer and breathe easier then you will get there in the end. Good luck. 59

Football Swansea City v Manchester City
SATURDAY 4TH MAY Fulham v Reading
Reading are probably relegated by now, so they won’t have anything to play for and Fulham have been in pretty decent form of late. So with this game being at Fulham I think it’ll be a comfortable win for the home side. 2-0 to Fulham.
Queens Park Rangers v Arsenal
QPR will have been relegated by now and Arsenal want to cement their place in the top 4 to get a Champions League place. With only pride to play for now, QPR greet Arsenal who have suddenly started playing well again, so despite a bit of huff and puff, I can only see one winner here. Arsenal to win 0-3. 60
FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS
Both teams can play good football and both teams need the points to avoid relegation. Villa’s form has picked up considerably when it counts and Norwich have been good at home. I have a feeling they’ll both score, so this could be a pretty good game to watch for the neutral. I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.
Premiership
Norwich City v Aston Villa
Michu
Since winning the Carling cup, Swansea have gone slightly off the boil. Michael Laudrup has signed an extension to his contract in a bid to end interest from bigger clubs but whether this will work or not, remains to be seen. Michu has played out of his skin for much of the season as has defender Ashley Williams, both will probably be sold in the summer. If Laudrup buys well, he could further his kudos be doing well in Europe next season. City will still want to push Manchester United all the way and so if there still is a chance at this stage of the season, Manchester City will want to win badly. They will do so as well, 1-2 to Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton
The race for the top 4 continues here. The race to avoid relegation also continues here. With both teams wanting to win desperately, they’ll both go for it, which will mean lots of goals and incident. As the game is at White Hart Lane, then I think Spurs will edge it basically because they’re a better team and the home crowd will be spurring them on. 2-1 to Spurs.
West Bromwich Albion v Wigan Athletic
What a roller-coaster season for Wigan; in the FA cup final and still battling relegation. West Brom have slowed their astonishing start to the season, though they still chase Liverpool for 7th spot. A tough game for both sides and so I think a draw is on the cards. 1-1.
West Ham United v Newcastle United
Both teams should survive in the relegation battle but it’s so tight down there, either side could be relegated. Injuries have hampered any progress to Newcastle after last seasons promise. West Ham will just be happy to stay in the Premier League. This will be a tight game and a six pointer for any potential winner, leaving the loser deep in the mire. I’ll go for a draw here 1-1 which probably won’t help either side.
Manchester United v Chelsea
This should be a cracking game, with Alex Ferguson United wanting revenge on Chelsea for their FA cup exit, and with Chelsea wanting to beat United full stop. If United have been sloppy and gained a few draws lately, the Manchester City could be hot on their heels. Doubtful though, but if so, then this game could be crucial to their title. Chelsea need to win to gain a Champions League place and so will do their damnedest to win. Chelsea to edge this one, as United have probably won the title by now, so Chelsea have more to play for. 0-1 to Chelsea.
MONDAY 6TH MAY Sunderland v Stoke City Paolo Di Canio
SUNDAY 5TH MAY Liverpool v Everton
This game is to sort out 6th and 7th place AND for bragging rights in Liverpool. For the past 30 years Liverpool have been the dominant force in Merseyside. But Everton this season have been a better unit and they are currently above Liverpool in the table with a game in hand. They’ll probably be there at the end of the season as well even if Liverpool win this game. Both sets of players will be up for this and both will definitely want to win. I see stalemate here with eventual bragging rights going to Everton. 2-2 draw.
Both teams are in serious danger of relegation. Martin O’Neill has been sacked for the first time in his 25 year career and Paolo Di Canio has been brought in to save Sunderland. Judging by their game against Newcastle, then Di Canio has certainly brought more resolve and belief to the team. After the recent internationals Sunderland lost their two best players and they looked doomed. Di Canio has given them hope at least, which can make all the difference in the survival race. Stoke on the other hand look listless and there’s a good chance that despite them being strong in previous seasons, it will count for nothing in this. The players are older and their manager looks like he’s out of ideas. Stoke could go down like Bolton did last season. Sunderland to win here 1-0.
TUESDAY 7TH MAY Wigan v Swansea
Wigan’s game in hand, over the other relegation teams. Swansea arrive in suspect form and so Wigan’s drive, desperation and them being the home side, will make all the difference. 2-0 to Wigan.
SATURDAY 11TH MAY Aston Villa v Chelsea
Chelsea travel to a Villa side who have at least showed some fight to escape relegation. I can’t see Villa getting any points here, despite their recent revival. Chelsea will be concentrating on the top 4 and potentially a Europa League Final and with a midfield of Mata, Hazard, Oscar and Lampard then I can’t see Chelsea losing here. 0-2 to Chelsea.
SUNDAY 12TH MAY Everton v West Ham United
Everton want a Europa League place and more importantly end up above Liverpool. So they greet a relegation troubled West Ham who desperately need points. Everton have been pretty efficient in dispatching smaller teams and so I think they’ll continue to do so here, as West Ham’s away form hasn’t been all that good. 2-0 to Everton.
61
Fulham v Liverpool
The Rodgers experiment has failed at Liverpool. The naïve young manager spouting off more and more nonsense, makes him sound like David Brent, from the TV Show the Office. Brentan Rodgers brings his side to Fulham who are in good form at home. Predicting what type of Liverpool side will turn up here is anyone’s guess but I would think that there will be plenty of chances for the Liverpool side which won’t be taken and then Berbatov for Fulham will do bugger all for most of the match and then come up with the winner. A draw is the most likely result. 1-1.
Manchester United v Swansea City
With Swansea City’s recent form, I can’t see them getting anything at Old Trafford. United will be wanting to put on a show here, as they’re either celebrating their 20th Title victory at home or can seal it for sure with a win here. Like lambs to the slaughter I can’t see Swansea being able to stop this victory parade. 2-0 to United.
Norwich aren’t quite safe yet, but they’ve had good home form recently and so I don’t see them losing to West Brom here. A draw is likely. 1-1.
Queens Park Rangers v Newcastle United
Relegated QPR against potential relegation candidates, Newcastle. Newcastle should avoid the drop because they have quality in their side, but they need to produce the goods right now. I think they will do here and beat a pretty woeful QPR. Harry Redknapp did his best, but he can only work with the players others brought in. This might also be Redknapps last game as manager and you might see a farewell wave to the crowd at the end of the game. 1-2 to Newcastle. 62
In previous seasons, I would have said that Stoke would out muscle more talented teams like Spurs, but that can’t be said any more. Spurs have proved that they can dig in and how grit as well as skill, and though they still have to put up with Adebayor in the team (surely off in the summer) they have enough quality to beat Stoke here and continue their quest for the top 4 places or to cement a return to the Europa league and beat off Everton’s claim. Spurs to win 0-1.
Sunderland v Southampton
Both teams have been playing better of late and both still have the shadow of relegation hovering above them. I’d fancy the Di Canio led resurgent Sunderland to win through here but it will be a close run thing. 1-0 to Sunderland.
TUESDAY 14TH MAY Arsenal v Wigan Athletic
Arsenal greet a much improved Wigan at the Emirates, both teams fighting at opposite ends of the League table. Wigan could pull a surprise here and get a point, they’ve certainly been scoring goals recently and they could carry on against a bit of a shaky Arsenal defence. Arsenals main strengths is attack and so this game could feature goals galore. I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.
Reading v Manchester City
Reading meet an in form City side, who want to close the points difference with United, which flatters to deceive. If City had played their first half of the season, like their second, they would have the title wrapped up by now. I can’t see Reading avoiding defeat here and they could be on the end of a bit of a thumping. 0-3 to Manchester City.
~ FINAL DAY ~ SUNDAY 19TH MAY Chelsea v Everton
Felliani
Tough game for both sides at the end of a long season. Everton midfielder Felliani might be swapping sides and playing in the blue of Chelsea next season, there was even some speculation the Everton’s manager, David Moyes, could swap his allegiance to Chelsea. Chelsea will welcome the departure of Rafa Benitez after his spell as ‘interim’ manager though getting to the FA cup semifinals and possibly winning the Europa league final shows he’s still a fine manager. He might even return to Liverpool if an opportunity arises. Chelsea to sneak this game 1-0.
Liverpool v Queens Park Rangers
So will Brendan Rodgers survive the summer, after a woeful first season? With Luis Suarez surely off and Carraghers retirement, Liverpool will have to buy well in the summer. Apart from Coutinho, all of Rodgers buys have been overpriced underwhelming ones with the likes of Allen, Borini and Sturridge. They welcome relegated QPR here and they will probably win 4-0. But at the end of the day, it matters little. A failed project and the American owners need experience in all departments at Liverpool, or they will see a further drop down the table. Malaga’s manager, Pelligrini, is rumoured to be leaving in the summer, he might be perfect for Liverpool.
Jamie Carragher
Norwich City v West Bromwich Albion
Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City v Norwich City
City will want as many points on the table, and as they’ve come out winners against their Manchester rivals, they can at least claim to be the best club locally anyway. Bit of a failure for Manchester City, after last seasons heroics, but they should win the FA cup now so that’s not too bad. Norwich are probably safe by now, they will play some decent football and then lose to an Aguero goal. 2-0 to Manchester City.
Newcastle United v Arsenal
Newcastle have had a terrible season in the league, and done quite well in Europe. But though they shouldn’t be in the position of being relegated, if they had to get points from Arsenal, then they would be hard to come by. Newcastle might have the crowd behind them, but their team on the pitch is nowhere near the races. Arsenal won’t want to miss out on the Champions League places and as both Chelsea and Spurs are fighting it out, those final positions could be reliant on what happens today. Arsenal to edge the game 0-1.
done little against Tony Pulis, but they might be sacking him in the summer, especially if they get relegated. If either side win this game, they could make themselves safe from relegation, so there’s everything to play for. Southampton have been good at home and Stoke awful away, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Southampton get all 3 points and that might just save them from the drop. Stoke on the other hand might fall. Time will tell. Southampton to win 1-0.
Swansea City v Fulham
Swansea have had a good season with winning a cup and qualifying for Europe. They’ll also end in the top ten and so Michael Laudrup has done a quality job with limited resources. Martin Jol has also done a good job with Fulham, never under threat from getting embroiled in the relegation dogfight, he’s made Fulham a mid table team with little money. Both teams could cancel each other out and so I’ll go for a goalless draw here. 0-0.
Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland
Southampton v Stoke City Tony Pulis
Southampton’s gamble of sacking Nigel Adkins in January actually worked and might just have done enough to save them from relegation. Stoke’s hierarchy has
This could be a tricky game for Spurs in their bid to get top 4. Sunderland need every point they can get and will fight for new manager, Di Canio. Andre Villas Boas has done well with Spurs and over the season probably deserve top 4. Sadly there’s no such thing in football and all his plans could come unstuck here. If Spurs play well at home they can win which might mean they qualify on the last game. I’ll go for 1-0 to Spurs.
West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United
Steve Clarke, the manager for West Brom has done an excellent job making them top 8 in the process. Considering Steve Clarke this is Clarke’s first season as manager then he could grow and grow. United should be champions by now and if so, they could let their foot off the pedal and go through the motions. United to win 0 -1.
West Ham United v Reading
If West Ham do need points to stave off relegation then easy points can be gained against Reading. West Ham will be content enough to survive in the Premier League after coming up from the Championship and hopefully build on any progress they’ve made this season. Reading with Nigel Adkins at least has a chance to return to the Premiership next summer. This game should end up 2-0 to West Ham.
Wigan Athletic v Aston Villa
Another 6 pointer which could prove crucial for the final table. Both teams will hope to have done enough to avoid the ‘loser is relegated’ conundrum. Wigan should win this but they’ll have been in the FA Cup final a week before and so if they lose that one against Manchester City, they could be deflated which might affect their performance here. I’ll go for a 1-1 draw.

FA CUP Europa League Semi-finals Final L A N FI Saturday 11th May, 2013
Manchester City v Wigan
Since when does the FA Cup Final take place before the end of the league? All this can do is create congestion problems for both teams involved. Manchester City should win this. They have the best players, more experience and more fans. Wigan however are capable of creating a few surprises and so anything could happen. City to win though 2 -1.
To be played on 25th April & 2nd May
To be played on 15th May
Fenerbahce v Benfica
Chelsea (?) v Benfica (?)
Basel v Chelsea
As long as my predictions were correct, Chelsea with the guidance of Rafa Benitez have a real chance of winning another European trophy here. Benfica are a dangerous outfit though and so Chelsea will have to perform to the maximum. If they do that, then they have every chance of winning this final and gaining another trophy.
2nd in the Turkish league plays 1st in the Portuguese. The Portuguese outfit have scored a lot of goals and are in better form so I expect them to get through to the final.
Conquerors (on penalties) of Spurs meet Chelsea. Chelsea should win this as they have the better team and an experienced manager. Basel have done well getting this far but I still see Chelsea winning here.
Champions League Semi-finals
Final
Bayern munich v Barcelona
25th May Wembley
23rd April and 1st May Both teams groaned when they were pulled out of the hat to meet each other. Both are the strongest of the four but it does create a possibility of an all German final or an all Spanish one. Barcelona have been brilliant in the Spanish league and though a little quieter they’re still here in the semis. Spain also did this in Euro 2012 and they can step up to their maximum when the time is needed. Bayern easily won the German league, so this will be an interesting contrast in styles. After the first leg, where Bayern Munich won 4 - 0 thrashing Barcelona, there’s no coming back for Barca. They’ve pushed their luck a couple of times already in this competition, coming back against AC Milan and Paris St Germain, but Bayern Munich won’t crumble. Bayern to win through to get to the final.
Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid
24th and 30th April Borussia, led by Jurgen Klopp, has created a side on 30 million. Real Madrid have spent huge amounts of money. Mourinho will want to win this , so expect a lot of histrionics in the papers beforehand. After the first leg and the 4-1 to Dortmund, Real at least have an away goal. Will this do any good? Nope. They might get close but they won’t win through to the final. Dortmund to meet Bayern in the final.
Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund
An all German final, and after sweeping Barcelona aside with ease, Bayern Munich must be hot favourites now. Bayern lost the final last year on penalties to Chelsea and they have a point to prove in this final. The 20 points lead in the German league will count for nothing in this game but i think Bayern have the quality and hunger to win this one. 2-1 to Bayern Munich.

Gareth Frank
Bale
Gareth Bale is hot property right now, and this is probably his last season at Tottenham Hotspur. Playing in Midfield he has become key to Spurs season and this has got him noticed on the European stage with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona being linked to him in the summer. His current value is somewhere near the region of 40 million pounds. How things have turned round for Bale. Spurs bought him for 10 million from Southampton 6 years ago, but after a promising start at left back, he quickly became known as a ‘Jonah’ (cursed) when he played for 24 straight games where Spurs never won. That could have broken quite a few player but thankfully management changed and he was born again tanks to the help of Harry Redknapp. Redknapp took over at Spurs after they had 1 point from 10 games and looked doomed with only a quarter of the season gone. Redknapp instantly turned Bale from left back to left wing and he was transformed.
“
There can’t be a better left-sided player anywhere. If he were English he’d be going to the World Cup now, that’s for sure. He can play left-back or wide left in midfield, he’s six foot and has great a physique. He can run all day, has an unbelievable left foot, has skill and his heading is top-class - he can do everything.
”
Harry Redknapp.
Player Profile Age: 23 Born: Cardiff, Wales. Salary: 4 million a year. Club: Tottenham Hotspur. Car: Audi R8. 66
The game where he really shot to fame was in the Champions League against CL Champions Inter Milan. Scoring a hat trick and helping Spurs through on aggregate. For this he was voted 2011 PFA Footballer of the Year and appeared in the 2012 Premiership Team of the Year. Bale is extremely quick and is an attacking left winger who scores goals and delivers excellent crosses. He is also specialises in free kicks. Forget about him defending, ironic really as he was bought as a defender.
Formed as Newton Heath LYR in 1878, the team played other railways company teams. But by 1880, they played their first pro game and got thrashed 6 – 0 by Bolton reserves, they changed their name to Manchester United in 1902. Matt Busby
In their trophy laden history they have won 20 league titles, 11 FA Cups (5 under Fergie), 4 league cups (all Fergie) and 19 Community Shields (10 for Fergie). 3 European Cups (2 Fergie) with Ferguson adding a 1 Cup winners Cup, 1 Super Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
Alex Ferguson ‘86
Club Profile: Manchester United
Manchester United Football Club is currently the biggest club in English Football and on the 22nd of April, 2013, United have just won their 20th league title. This is due to one man, Alex Ferguson. Love him or hate him, he has to be respected as the man who single handedly lifted United from the doldrums to new highs. Of the 20 titles United have won, 13 have been under Fergie.
Youth Team ‘92
Giggs, Scholes, Beckham The Treble ‘99
Malcolm Glazer
In 1958, 8 United players died in the Munich airplane crash and their manager Matt Busby (manager between 1945 and 1969) was injured. Ten years later, Matt Busby and his team won the European Cup, the first English Club to do so. After this with changing managers they won a few trophies but never challenged the might of Liverpool. That only started in the early nineties when United took full advantage of the Premiership and sold stocks to raise money, with that money they bought the best players and created a magnificent youth team including the likes of Beckham, Scholes and Giggs. Ferguson nearly came unstuck on two different occasions: back in 1990, in the 3rd round of the FA cup against Nottingham Forest, Fergie was close to getting the sack and only striker Mark Robbins popped up and scored the winner to save Fergie from dismissal. The 2nd time was in 2004 when Irishmen McManus and Magnier (who had become majority
shareholders in the club) fell out with Ferguson over a horse called ‘The Rock of Gibraltar.’ Wanting him removed, the board tried to get others to buy into the club and remove the threat to Fergie, this came in 2005 when Malcolm Glazer bought the club for 800 million. This money was mainly brought in through massive loans and until 2017, 45 million has to be paid per year as interest.
They are one of the most supported football teams in the world with at least 75 million fans (other estimations are in the 300 millions). United are also the most wealthy club in the world and in January 2013, became the first sports team to be valued at 3 billion dollars. It will be interesting to see what happens when Alex Ferguson retires in the next years and whether the club can continue it’s success. Jose Mourinho has been linked with taking over from Fergie, but as Fergie shows no hint of wanting to retire or losing his passion for football, Mourinho might be be waiting for a while yet. 67

THE 2013 MASTERS
Augusta
The week started with all the talk about 14-year-old Tianlang Guan who qualified for the Masters by winning the Asian Amateur Championship. He played practice rounds with former champions Ben Crenshaw, Tom Watson and tournament favourite Tiger Woods.
On Tuesday night defending champion Bubba hosted the Annual Champions Dinner, and the menu that he chose is still a mystery, and unless you know someone who attended, will stay a mystery. On Wednesday we saw the Annual Par 3 competition where it was more fun than a serious competition. Many players had family members with them. Rory McIlroy had his tennis champion girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki caddying. Nick Watney and Ben Crenshaw both got a Hole in One 70
but it was Ted Potter Jnr who beat Phil Mickleson and Matt Kuchar to win.
And so Thursday finally came which brought Day 1 of the 2013 Masters, the first Major of the year. At first dawn Arnold Parlmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus who were the honorary starters, hit the 1st shots of the Masters tournament before returning to the club house. The end of day 1 saw Sergio Garcia and Mark Leishman leading the pack on 6 under par. Tiger came home with a 70 and Rory with a 72, which was not what was expected from the favourites. Jamie Donaldson holed in One at the Par 3 6th and the 14-year-old Tianlang Guan shot a very respectable 73. Day 2 Friday saw Jason Day move to the top of the leaderboard on the 6 under score. Fred Couples
was on 5 under along with the 1st day leader Mark Leishman. 2008 champion Angel Cabrera was on 4 under, Tiger Woods got to 5 under before disaster struck at the 15th and his all but perfect pitch hit the hole on the fly, then ricocheted back into the water. What followed was a catalogue of errors by Tiger, his caddy and the rule official who accompanied them. This lead to Tiger receiving a further 2-shot penalty the following morning. He received this because he took an incorrect drop due to dropping his ball 2 feet further back than he was allowed.
This was not the only point people were talking about, as the youngster Tianlung Guan was given a 1-shot penalty on the 17th for slow play, yet it didn’t stop him amazingly making the cut on 4 over to go into the last two days.
After all the fun over Tiger Woods and the drop which he was penalised for, on “Moving Day”, the name given to Day 3 of the Masters, he also had past champions calling for him to be withdrawn. Both Brandt Snedeker and Angel Cabrerabe had a great day ending up top of the leaderboard on 7 under. A shot behind on 6 under was Adam Scott and on 5 under was Jason Day and Mark Leishman. Tiger finished his day on 3 under. On Sunday, day 4, the forecast was Rain! However, the weather didn’t stop what turned out to be a memorable day. Jason Day made the first move with a Birdie-Eagle start, which moved him to the top of the leaderboard. Adam Scott was going about his business just a shot behind, as was Angle Cabrera, who played the front nine in 2 under par shots to top the leaderboard at -9 going into the back nine. They say that the Masters does not start until the final nine of the last day, and they are not wrong! Jason Day birdied 13, 14 and the 15th to take the lead but then bogeyed at the 16th and 17th to drop back behind Adam Scott by one shot. Cabrera who had dropped two shots then birdied the 16th to tie Scott at the top. Jason Day’s birdie putt on the 18th just slipped by, while Adam Scott then holed a 20 feet birdie putt for what he thought was the win. However, Cabrera who had been watching from back down the fairway, fired his approach to just 3 feet which gave him a birdie and a play-off. The play-off went two holes before Adam Scott rolled in a 15 foot putt on the 10th to become the 1st Australian to wear the famous Green Jacket and take the title, Masters Champion.

Is now a good time to buy? With bargain basement prices on offer, Spanish property is more tempting than ever, but is it really a good time to buy? According to Madrid-based property consultants Acuña & Asociados, there are around two million re-sale, ready-built and partially complete properties on the market, of which an estimated 11 to 17 per cent is owned by the banks. With such an oversupply of property, prices could still have some way to go, so you may want to bide your time for even bigger price reductions, but either way, don’t expect to uncover high-end homes going cheaply. “Prices have come down a lot and they are probably going to come down even more for some types of property but this could be a false economy as they are quite often cheap for a very good reason,” says Mark Stucklin from Spanish Property Insight. “Great property is always in short supply but if you want something simple, in a nice enough part of Spain which is reasonably inexpensive to buy and maintain, there are plenty of reasonable, functional properties that fit the bill. Just don’t be too fussy.” Many of the homes that the banks want off their books at any price are the cheap-but-not-so-cheerful properties built up during the
Poor-quality developments, built in bulk and often in breach of planning rules and building licences have been a huge concern for expats, so proceed with caution! real-estate boom. Poor-quality developments, built in bulk and often in breach of planning rules and building licences have been a huge concern for ex-pats, so proceed with caution. It is likely that repossessions are a much better bet for first-time buyers in the Spanish market in urban areas, rather than Brits looking for a home by the sea. It also pays to keep in mind that, as in the UK, there is some degree of separation when looking at the Spanish property market as a whole.
“If I was in a buyer’s position, I would look at the market very carefully. It is location, location and location,” says Marc Pritchard, a sales manager of housebuilder Taylor Wimpey España. “The vast majority of the bank-repossessed properties are inland up to 40km away from the coast, don’t have sea views, no infrastructure around them at all and in some cases a golf course which cannot be maintained as they are not getting golf players – that is why they have not sold in the first place.” If you buy in an unfinished, empty development there may be no maintenance at all, no after-sales service because the main or subcontractors no longer exist and no guarantees in place (excluding the structural guarantee which is covered by Spanish law). An unfinished or shoddy site is a big problem but if you buy into a ghost development at any price, it is likely to be money down the drain. There is much to consider when buying here in Spain. Yes there are some great deals, but just be aware that there are many things to take into consideration before parting with your hard-earned cash. 77

RANGE ROVER SPORT
Dealerships
The all-new Land Rover Range Rover Sport has been designed to capture the distinctive DNA of its predecessor, but with a bold evolution, which has placed it firmly at the heart of the marque’s striking new threemodel portfolio between the Range Rover and the Evoque.
The Range Rover Sport occupies a unique position within its segment, and the new model builds on those core strengths with a design, which confirms its status as the definitive premium Sports SUV. With its ‘faster’ windscreen angle, streamlined profile and sloping roofline, the new Sport is 8 per cent more aerodynamic than the previous model. While it was developed alongside the Range Rover and shares some commonality with its sister vehicle, the all-new Range Rover Sport benefits from 75 percent unique parts, a significant number of which directly influence the way the new Sport looks and feels.
86
“The new Range Rover Sport is the ultimate luxury SUV. A new Range Rover Sport for a new era. Relevant, sustainable and utterly desirable. Alongside the all new Range Rover, and the Range Rover Evoque, the new Range Rover Sport represents the third distinct product in Land Rover’s product revolution. Firmly establishing it as a powerhouse British brand, with exceptional Design at its core,” said Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern.
Bold and progressive exterior design The new Range Rover Sport Dynamic has a bold and progressive exterior design, which positions the vehicle confidently within the latest Range Rover line-up. The new Sport is just 62mm longer than its predecessor, yet at 4850mm, it is shorter than other 7-seater SUVs and most E segment sedans, bringing greater manoeuvrability and ease of parking. However, a significantly longer wheelbase (increased by 178mm) provides greater room and improved access for rear passengers. The new Sport is 149mm shorter and 55mm lower
than the new Range Rover on which it is based and model-formodel weighs 45kg less.
appearance, with its slimmer lights, rearward sloping grille and more sculpted corners.
Exciting new interpretations of Range Rover Sport design cues include the signature clamshell bonnet, floating roof and side fender vents. The vehicle also features bold new versions of the powerful wheel arch graphic, horizontal body feature lines and distinctive rocker mouldings which are key elements of the model’s strong DNA.
“The ‘S’ in SUV is taken to another level with the new Range Rover Sport. It’s dramatic and powerful with immense road presence. It has a low centre of gravity that promotes a dynamic stance while communicating its athletic capabilities. Its sporting characteristics are further emphasized by the vehicle’s high belt line, short overhangs and distinctive silhouette, there really is nothing else like it,” said Gerry McGovern.
While retaining the powerful Range Rover Sport character, the front end has a more modern, streamlined
Eye-catching details Eye-catching design details serve to emphasize the new Range Rover Sport’s more dynamic and contemporary character. The side fender vents are executed with a more dynamic, sloping treatment. Matching twin vents are executed in the bonnet, enhancing the powerful and sporting character of the vehicle. Designers have also continued the classic Range Rover Sport two-bar theme, reflected in the twin strakes on the fender vents, the two bar front grille, and the twin lines in the tail lamp graphics.
Near-flush side glazing, combined with a premium gloss black finish to the pillars, enhance the bold Range Rover Sport floating roof graphic - which can be highlighted with three contrast roof colours of grey, black or silver - while also emphasizing the more streamlined form of the body. Brembo brake calipers finished in red and a Black Pack, which removes all bright work from the exterior, are also available to create a more bespoke appearance. At the front, the large outboard air intakes and bold trapezoidal shapes housing the central bumper beam and skid plate send out a high performance message. 87

The same trapezoidal theme is repeated at the rear, with the skid plate flanked by large twin exhaust outlets. The front lamps continue the bold evolution of the Sport, with highly distinctive LED signature graphics which feature a new distinctive graphic. The slimmer design creates a more aggressive, technical appearance. At the rear, the lamps have a more compact treatment with a striking new design that uses LED technology. The main tail and stop lamps echo the headlamps’ distinctive design language, while the direction indicators use a new interpretation of the ‘twin line’ graphic from the current model. Both front and rear lamps flow round into the shoulders of the body with the distinctive tapering blade graphic featured on the other vehicles in the latest Range Rover portfolio.
Modern, luxurious interior with a strong sporting character
The uses of top quality materials and material finishes have been applied with the highest levels of precision enhance this exciting and cocooning design. It’s simply a great place to be.
the centrepiece of the cabin is the bold intersection between the strong horizontal elements of the instrument panel and the vertical lines of the centre stack. The dynamic character of the cockpit is enhanced by the faster angle of the centre stack, with its striking satin chrome pillars that flow from the instrument panel through into the rear cabin and the aluminium accents that flow from the centre console into the fascia.
The interior has a sophisticated and modern appearance, incorporating distinctive Range Rover Sport design cues and providing the driver with a luxurious and sporting cockpit. For the new model, the strong, architectural forms of the design have been enhanced by a cleaner, purer surface treatment, beautifully executed using top quality materials.
The centre console is mounted higher, positioning the controls closer to the driver and creating a more cocooning sensation for the front occupants.
