T
he original Essex boy, James Trevor Oliver, has become one of the world’s most well-known chefs and cooking television personalities. Born in Clavering in Essex in 1975, Jamie Oliver grew up with his sister in their parent’s pub, The Cricketers, which they bought when Jamie was small. The pub soon gained notoriety for being a great restaurant and with Jamie’s father Trevor in the kitchen and his mother Sally in front of house, Jamie quickly was drawn into the business. Working with his father in the kitchen after school and at weekends, his fascination and passion with food soon began to grow.
He left school at 16 to attend Westminister Catering College and complete his training to become a chef. After a short stint in France, Jamie returned and gained a place in Antonio Carluccio’s restaurant, Neal’s Yard, as a pastry chef and it was here that he met his longtime friend and mentor Gennaro Contaldo. Moving on from Neal’s Yard Jamie garnered a place as sous chef at the acclaimed River Café in London and it was during his time there that TV execs would notice him. A documentary was being made about Christmas at the River Café on which Jamie was featured and members from the BBC observed his ease and friendly approach on screen. Shortly after, he was offered his own cooking show and The Naked Chef first aired in 1997. The show was such a success that Jamie wrote a book to accompany the series which became a number one best-seller, thus cementing Jamie’s status as a
celebrity chef. Also that year Jamie, still only 22, was asked to cook at Number 10 Downing Street for the then Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Naked Chef ran for three series with three extra Christmas specials and the success led to two further books with food featured from the series.

junk food and start eating healthier. Jamie’s notoriety and passion regarding the issue forced the government to re-think their approach to feeding children at school and they pledged to spend £280 million over three years improving school dinners.
In 2002 Jamie opened Fifteen, a brand new concept in the world of cuisine. The idea behind it was to create one of the finest restaurants in London but also to offer young people who have faced challenging lives, the chance to really make something of themselves and become talented chefs. Each year since its inception, 15 young adults who have had a disadvantaged background, or have a criminal record are given a second chance and are trained at the restaurant. Fifteen is now found in four locations, London, Cornwall, Amsterdam and Melbourne, Australia.
It was after spending much of his time helping to improve the state of the nation’s school dinners that Jamie decided to get back to his first passion – Italian cuisine – and so embarked on a tour of Italy. Jamie spent a number of weeks sleeping, travelling, cooking and eating in a VW campervan and his travels were filmed for Channel 4. A book entitled Jamie’s Italy accompanied the series, his sixth so far, which went straight to number one and sold more copies in the week before Christmas than any non-fiction book before it.
While opening Fifteen, Jamie was filmed for a five part documentary series which showed him training the 15 youths who would be offered a job at the restaurant if they completed the course. This documentary was picked up for a second series in the following year with Return to Jamie’s Kitchen as well as a spin off Jamie’s Kitchen Australia.
It was after filming Jamie’s Kitchen that he was recognised for his work and was awarded an MBE for his contribution to the hospitality industry, something which he took very seriously. Jamie’s career has never faltered and it could be said that the reason behind that is because of the work he did in 2005 with school children with the campaign Feed Me Better - he wanted children to stop eating
During 2008 and 2009 Jamie teamed up with other high profile celebrity chefs including Hugh FearnleyWhittingstall and filmed the documentaries Jamie’s Fowl Dinners and Jamie Saves Our Bacon. In Fowl Dinners, Jamie backed Hugh’s fight against battery farmed chickens while in Saves Our Bacon Jamie looked into the state of pig farming in the UK and the EU. After campaigning for better conditions for the animals that find their way onto our plates, Jamie turned his attention back to the population and his first mission was to change the town of Rotherham into the culinary capital of the United Kingdom (a tall order if ever there was one). He spent time with many of the town’s inhabitants teaching them how to cook fresh fish and only use fresh ingredients establishing a healthy eating 9

lifestyle. A ministry of food was set up by Jamie in the town centre providing advice, information and cooking lessons for Rotherham’s residents. This ministry proved to be such a success that two further ministries were opened in Bradford and Leeds and many other town councils putting together funding to open more. Not content with trying to help the residents of the UK, Jamie headed to Huntingdon, West Virginia, in the United States which was statistically one of the unhealthiest towns in the US. He filmed two series while in the US entitled Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution – the first was centred around Huntingdon and was received well by both the town’s residents and the viewers, but the second was a different story. Jamie headed to Los Angeles for the second series and decided to turn his attention to school dinners in the US as his UK campaign had gone so well. His crusade to change their school dinners was met with much resistance and he was ultimately barred from filming in any Los Angeles public school.
now has 34 restaurants all over the UK as well as a location in Dubai and another in Sydney! During 2013 he plans to open another in Australia, one in Russia and one in Singapore as well as two more in the UK.
Needless to say Jamie’s career has gone from strength to strength and his passion and motivation is clearly apparent but he couldn’t have done it without the love of his parents who helped him find a love of food and his ever patient wife Jules and four children. Jules and the children Poppy Honey Rosie Oliver, Daisy Boo Pamela Oliver, Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver and Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver have featured in many of his programmes over the years and continue to support him in both his charity work and his work in the kitchen.
In recent years Jamie has re-focused his attention on cooking and producing television shows to help the public in their own kitchens. Jamie at Home, Jamie’s Fish Supper, Jamie Cooks Summer, Jamie’s Family Christmas and Jamie’s Great Britain were all shows in which he got back to doing what he does best – creating exciting, easy recipes for the British public to follow. However, many of these shows were one off specials and Jamie wanted to make a show where the public could, essentially, cook along with him. Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals was his first foray into daytime television and saw him creating dishes that utilised everyday food and enabled viewers to cook a whole meal in 30 minutes. A book accompanied the series and became Jamie’s best-selling book to date and the fastest selling book of all time in the UK. Two years later in 2012, Jamie embarked on another series – this time it was 15 Minute Meals with another book to accompany it. Aside from starring on television and the work that he puts in to The Fifteen Foundation, Jamie has also opened many restaurants over the last few years. Jamie’s Italian first opened in Oxford in 2008 but he 11

prevalence doesn’t make it any less scary. Around 1% of the population are thought to have the allergy which is the commonest cause of food allergy deaths. It’s getting more common, too. Cases of peanut allergy tripled in the first decade of the century.
Tapioca The much hated milk-based dessert that some of us grew up forcing down (which bears an uncanny resemblance to milky frogspawn) is made from the root of the cassava plant. And as it turns out, we had good reason to hate tapioca, even though we didn’t know it. Prepared incorrectly the cassava plant can produce a deadly dose of cyanide. It’s fair to say our tapioca was always prepared correctly, in that it didn’t kill us. But that didn’t make it nice.
Hot Dogs We know they put some dodgy stuff in processed meat these days but can hot dogs really be up there with fugu in the deadly food stakes? According to the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) they can. A couple of years ago the organisation classified them as a choking hazard. Yep, the shape of hot dogs make them potentially lethal to small children. Nearly a fifth of food12
Chocolate Chocolate is lovely but contains a chemical compound called theobromine, which would be poisonous if we didn’t process it so well. The only danger most of us have from chocolate is eating too much and getting fat. That’s not the case with pets though, who can’t process theobromine nearly so well (proving, surely, that evolution designed people to eat chocolate). Chocolate can kill pets, and dogs in particular (cats rarely eat it, but many dogs will eat anything). As little as 10 ounces/285 grams of dark chocolate - and even less if it’s baker’s chocolate - can be lethal. So for Rover’s birthday treat this year stick to a bone.
Rhubarb Rhubarb can be a bit tart if you don’t add enough sugar to the pie mix, but deadly? We’re afraid so. Luckily it’s not the stalks, which we more commonly eat, but the leaves, which we tend to discard. Various authorities advise steering well clear of the leaves, which contain poisonous toxins whether cooked or raw.
Ackee Fruit Ackee is a delicious Jamaican fruit but if you find yourself down that way don’t go picking it off the tree and scoffing it down willy-nilly. It might just kill you.
Peanuts We’ve all heard of peanut allergy - we may even have it. But its
Unripe ackee is packed with a poison called hypoglycin, and eating it causes the selfexplanatory Jamaican Vomiting
Sickness, which can in rare cases lead to coma and even death. Even when the ackee are ripe avoid the toxic black seeds like the plague and stick to the yellow bit around them. Or maybe have an apple?
Greens We’re always being told to eat more cabbage, lettuce, spinach and kale, which are universally recognised as some of the healthiest foods around. So what are they doing in this list? Well, the fact is, leafy greens are also responsible for more than their fair share of food poisoning outbreaks, including Norovirus
and E.coli. An American study published in January found that leafy greens caused more cases than any other type of food, including poultry and fish. About one in five illnesses were linked to leafy green vegetables.
kidney failure, which can be deadly if not treated promptly. The only safeguard against it is to eat the frog at the right time. It’s said that toxin levels are at their lowest, and the frog safest to consume, after the third rain of the year.
Frogs
So there are 10 foods that can be deadly, or at least highly dangerous. Of course, chips and bacon butties can be deadly too - they just kill much more slowly. Best to eat them all properly prepared, and in moderation.
Frogs are eaten around the world, but this illegal Namibian delicacy (the giant bullfrog is a protected species) comes with a serious health warning. The giant bullfrog is pretty much packed with toxins and Namibians eat the whole thing, give or take a bone or two. The toxins can lead to

Odd yet effective ways of
earning cash Traditional professions include jobs such as accountant, teacher, doctor or bus driver. However, in an ever changing job market there are also some very strange and unusual professions. Indeed, you will not be able to believe that some of the following jobs actually exist. Here are some odd yet effective ways of earning some doe.
Doll doctor
There are a number of professionals who dedicate themselves to restoring and repairing dolls. Indeed, the Doll Doctor’s Association in the United States lists more than 150 “doll hospitals” where you can send your doll to be fixed if it has lost an arm or an eye. These professionals are skilled at repairing both antique and modern dolls.
Human bed warmer
For those who are constantly travelling there is nothing better than a nice warm bed at the end of the day. Several hotels across the world employ bed warmers who will warm your bed moments before you want to go to sleep.
Dog food taster
For most people, the thought of having to eat dog food would make them feel sick. However, there are actually a group of professionals who are responsible for checking the taste of man’s best friend’s food. They test all of the dishes that are brought out by their dog food company to measure certain characteristics such as consistency, taste, and texture.
Bad breath tester
Chewing gum companies employ bad breath testers in a bid to beat their rivals in a very competitive market. The tester is tasked with smelling the breath of men and women after they have eaten food, such as onion, garlic or fish, which leaves an unpleasant smell. They rate the smell from 1 to 9 depending on its potency. They then test the volunteer’s breath again after they have consumed some chewing gum and note down a second rating.
Bedtime story reader
If you yearn for the days when you would nod off whist being read a bedtime story, then you should head to London. One chain of hotels in the capital has employed a bedtime story reader for its guests. The employee comes to your room and reads to you until you are ready to go off to the land of dreams.

Coconut inspector
You might think that this job would involve examining the flavour and texture of coconuts before they are sold as food. However, professionals who dedicate themselves to this task actually inspect palm trees in coastal areas to monitor the maturity of coconuts in order to prevent them from falling on people and cars.
Dice inspector
These professionals are often hired by casinos around the world to check that the dice they are using at their tables meet specified requirements. The dice inspector will examine the angles and weight of each die and check that it has the correct number of pips. They also verify that it can be thrown without any problems.
Serviette sniffer
Firms which sell serviettes aim to provide a product that is odourless. For this reason, they employ people to smell their serviettes before they are sent to customers. The sniffer gives an assessment of the serviette and if any smells are found the company will make adjustments to its production process.

This profession exists at a luxury hotel in the United States. The Barnsley Gardens resort in Georgia employs a fairy godmother to create “wow moments” for its guests. You can add a little bit of magic to your stay by hiring the fairy godmother to cover your bed in rose petals or fill your room with balloons.

Believe it or not, there are professionals who study the characteristics of snow. They are responsible for collecting snow crystals around the world to determine the effects of pollution in places where the soil remains covered for most of the year.

HAS THE INTERNET RUINED YOUR LIFE? It’s up there with the internal combustion engine and gunpowder in terms of inventions that have changed the way we live, but just like these two examples the internet is not without its downsides. Yes, it has allowed us to access more information than we could possibly use in our lifetime; it has enabled us to meet and communicate with people all over the world; and it has passed the reigns of control from publishers, producers and editors to us the people. But it also has a dark side and it can be a royal pain in the arse.
CAMERA TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA HAVE EXPOSED YOU FOR THE IDIOT YOU ARE The big kahuna of internet negatives is the constant exhibition of photos and videos from your social life. The chances of anyone other than the photographer ever seeing those stupid photos of you prancing around with a tea towel on your head used to be miniscule – now they are there for the whole world to see. Many people now have dual social media pages as a result – one with an altered name for their friends and all the photos and imbecilities, and another for their family and colleagues. Consider doing this if the internet has ruined your life.

EVERYONE KNOWS THE VALUE OF EVERYTHING Bargains are scarce in a world where, at the click of a mouse button, you can see exactly how much things are selling for on eBay. Even country to country prices are very similar for most global brand goods. Even at antiques fairs and the lowly car boot sale, sellers and buyers alike have more than likely done their homework and won’t budge for a second from the latest “Buy it Now” price.
NAKED BODIES ARE LESS THRILLING AND MYSTERIOUS Mainly, though certainly not exclusively, for men, the internet has provided a veritable tsunami of pornography since its inception. Weak, or simply over-curious, men can spend hours a day gaping at the saucy pixels dancing around in cyber space. Other, more pitiable types, have made real the very modern disease of pornography addiction. You may well be among them.
YOU DON’T READ ANY MORE Not really anyway. You read snippets of news from the mobile versions of internet news sites and just browse the internet when on a bus or train for extended periods. Most people used to carry newspapers or books for this kind of gap in the day. Now we just go cyber shopping, watch videos of cats making funny faces or chat inanely with friends as they do the same.
YOUR CD COLLECTION HAS BEEN RENDERED WORTHLESS All those hundreds, even thousands, of pounds you spent on that CD collection is now a towering shrine to technological misadventure. “Nobody’s going to come up with anything better than the CD,” we all thought. Although we can rip the music from CDs onto our devices, few do. Most can’t be bothered and the rest simply can’t. We’re just playing ball and buying (or stealing) all our favourites all over again, or using programmes like Spotify or Deezer.
YOU SPEND HOURS READING REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING SOMETHING
YOU’RE NOW A COMPLETE HYPOCHONDRIAC
You used to bite the bullet, go with your instinct or maybe a personal recommendation and buy your new TV in Dixons down the road. Now, every TV in existence has to have its stats cross-checked with every other via the internet. If it doesn’t have at least four stars on Amazon, forget about it. But one review often seems to contradict the next and we’re drawn into a maze of reviews and stats that leaves us more confused and less knowledgeable than when we started.

Most of the things the internet created were meant to save time, but a lot of them do the opposite. Take emails – when you get into the office there’s always a big list of them, each of them requiring feedback. You end up having email conversations with 15 different people when 15 phone calls would save much more time and effort. Then there’s the Twitter and Facebook updates and you leave the office without having even checked on that shirt you were bidding on eBay.
Got a little pain in your left side? Run it through Google and the millions of internet health sites that appear will have you down with everything from a splinter to leprosy. You may have been a bit of a worrier before, but the internet has now given credence to even your wildest fears. Do yourself a favour and visit your GP before you start typing in your symptoms.

They say money is the root of all evil. With the illicit trade in drugs raking in an estimated £200 billion a year and accounting for almost 1% of world GDP – the connection between making money and “evil” isn’t hard to make. Cocaine is 74 per cent cheaper than it was 30 years ago, prompting common consensus among policy think tanks and security forces to conclude so called “war”on drugs has pretty much failed to make a dent in the drug trade. There are certain “boom” towns when it comes to the illegal trade in drugs, not to mention the murder rates, human trafficking and crime that often go hand-in-hand.
2 Glasgow, UK
When it comes to drug consumption, Britain tops the poll of European countries. A report by the European Union’s drug agency found that class A drug abuse in Britain was the highest among any other European country and the European Monitoring Centre for Drug and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) found that 9.3% of people aged 16-59 have taken an illegal drug in Scotland.
3 Moscow, Russia
Russia and western Europe import over half the world’s heroin supply. Russia has an estimated 1.8 million heroin users and an ever growing HIV problem due to addicts sharing needles.
4 USA
Typically drug consumption and drug production can be divided along the same lines as developed and developing countries. Leading the world in drug consumption is the US market for Mexican cartels. Consumption in North America has shrunk in recent years which some analysts argue has led to more violence between cartels fighting over a shrinking market.
5 Marrakesh, Morocco
Cannabis is the world’s most widely used drug and Morocco is one of the biggest producers. Its geographical position also lends itself well to the European market, with drugs being smuggled from Northern Africa through Spain and Italy. The cannabis trade is however dying down as more and more cannabis is being home grown. Vietnamese gangs run cannabis factories in the UK and control about 75% of the market. 22
1 Amsterdam, Holland
When it comes to “drug tourism” Holland has the market cornered. The government have recently reclassified some drugs and closed down “coffee shops” in an attempt to move away from the drug tourism it attracts. But the city’s historical connection to the trade has meant suppliers have called the place home and used drug money to operate human trafficking rings.
6 Bogotá, Colombia
Although coca production has actually dropped by an estimated 28% and there are on-going peace talks between the government and FARC, Colombia remains the world’s largest exporter of cocaine. While production decreases in one country, it rises in another. A recent report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) showed coca production jumped by 38% in Peru and 112% in Bolivia.
7 Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Violent crime and homicide are everyday occurrences in the US-Mexico border towns, where cartels make an estimated £9bn a year on the drugs trade. The authorities regularly discover complex networks of underground tunnels that the cartels use to ship drugs to the US market and bring back weapons which fuel the never ending war.
8 Burma
The UN Office on Drugs and Crime listed Burma as the world’s second largest opium producer, accounting for 25% of production. The UN found that the farm land used for growing poppies had risen by 17% in 2012. The boom in production is directly related to the huge increase in heroin use in Asia.
9 Kabul, Afghanistan
The war-torn country produces 90% of the world’s heroin which adds up to about 6,900 metric tons. Opium is a huge cash crop for poor farmers and US troops have largely turned a blind eye to opium production in an effort to win hearts and minds and concentrate on the “war on terror.” Even if they did decide to burn opium fields, the UN estimates that enough opium has been stored to ensure supply for the next 25 years. 23

Hyaluronic Acid How Beneficial is
as part of your daily skin care regimen?
Hyaluronic Acid (Hyaluronic Acid or Sodium Hyaluronate) has many benefits and is one of the most interesting ingredients in skin care. Naturally found in the body, hyaluronic acid secures moisture and creates fullness — youthful skin naturally abounds with hyaluronic acid. In skin care, you can find hyaluronic acid creams, serums, injectables (aka: Restylane), and HA supplements. Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan (polysaccharides that are an important component of connective tissue). HA is distributed widely throughout connective, neural, and epithelial tissue. It is of the chief components of the extra-cellular matrix (the tissue that provides structural support to cells). In short, HA supports many important areas of the body, including beauty and skin.
30
Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid and Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid is also a major component of skin, where it is involved in tissue repair. Topically applied, hyaluronic acid forms an air permeable layer and penetrates into the dermis, thus boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The protective barrier on the skin locks in moisture, which gives the skin a youthful appearance. As we age, skin moisture can drop significantly, which creates aging like effects on skin appearance as it loses its elasticity. Thus hyaluronic acid can play a critical role in skin health with its unique ability to hold in moisture (1000 ml of water per gram of hyaluronic acid). Hyaluronic acid is also a “smart nutrient” as it can adjust its moisture absorption rate based on the humidity— relative to the season and the climate. Many skin care brands are now starting to add Hyaluronic Acid to their products as the effects can be astounding.
How Much Hyaluronic Acid Is In The Body? Interestingly, the average human has approximately 15 grams of hyaluronan (hyaluronic acid) in the body, one-third of which is “turned over” (degraded and synthesized) every day.
Here are a few products containing the ingredient:
Functions of Hyaluronic Acid As one of the chief components of the extra-cellular matrix, Hyaluronan is an important component of articular cartilage, where it is present as a coat around each cell (chondrocyte). Hyaluronan is responsible, in part, for the resilience of cartilage (its resistance to compression). Thus, its presence is important for soft tissue function, such as in joint support or in fighting osteoarthritis.

TIPS FROM LĂ?NEA DIRECTA ON DRIVING TO YOUR HOLIDAY DESTINATION There is no doubt that the high number of people travelling in summer creates one of the biggest problems of the year as far as road safety is concerned. The large influx of vehicles, high temperatures and long journeys, make the summer period one of the key moments in the struggle to keep down the number of accidents on our roads. As a result, LĂnea Directa Aseguradora, one of the Spanish companies most committed to road safety, has drawn up a short list of recommendations for all drivers, in an attempt to minimise the dangers involved and enable people to enjoy their holidays and keep safe: 1. Prepare the journey in advance: do not improvise or take the route you will follow for granted. Calculate your route, stops and rest periods carefully before setting off, especially if it is the first time you have travelled to your chosen destination. 2. Check your vehicle: check tyre pressure, water and oil levels and even the air conditioning system, especially if it hasn’t been recharged for several years. 3. Have a rest before setting off: not only is it recommended to have a rest every 2 hours, but also before the journey, especially if you are going to get up early in the morning. It is essential to allow enough time for carrying out small tasks such as preparing your luggage. 4. A car is not a removal van: do not take too many suitcases, and above all, be careful with how you arrange them in the vehicle. A loose object inside a car can be a lethal weapon in a crash. 5. Take turns driving: if the possibility exists and the journey is long, do not think twice about sharing the driving with another person. This reduces the chances of being distracted and is an effective measure against boredom and fatigue. 6. Take on enough fluids: in some parts of Spain, temperatures in summer can exceed 40 degrees centigrade, so it is extremely important to drink water or soft drinks continuously, even if you are not thirsty. In addition, if you are going to stop to eat something, avoid any type of drink which contains alcohol.

younger Simply look
There is no doubt that when it comes to bolstering a fragile sense of self-esteem; if you think you look good then you feel better about yourself, and more confident too, which can’t be a bad thing. It stands to reason that, if you want to bring about any changes in the way you look, you’ll have to make a few changes to your way of life, which require sustained effort. Your sleeping patterns, emotional balance, eating habits, exercise regime (or lack thereof ), skin-care routine and stress levels – all of this has an impact on the face you present to the rest of the world.
Here are a view simple yet effective ways of shaving off some years. • Wear tinted moisturiser
If your complexion looks even in tone, you appear younger. That’s not just supposition – it’s been proved by research (by Dr Bernhard Fink, an expert in evolutionary psychology at the University of Gottingen).
• Drink plenty of water
Particularly easy to do at this time of year when it is so much easier to reach for a cool refreshing drink than a hot cup of tea. It won’t hydrate your skin directly, but it will improve the way your insides work and good gut health is soon reflected in glowing skin.
• Get a great haircut
Updating your hairstyle can be enough to make you look years younger and a fringe hides a multitude of frown lines. Cosmetic surgeons will often send would-be clients off for a makeover; frequently, a haircut will give them enough confidence to skip the scalpel.
• Wear the right perfume
One study last year showed that observers who sniffed a particular perfume while judging the ages of women, judged them several years younger. Bonkers? Maybe. But worth a try. 32
• Spend time doing things that make you happy
You’ll feel better and look better as a result. And in the same vein, try to smile a bit more. It’s nicer for everyone else and it tricks the body into changing its mood. It also uses fewer muscles than frowning.
• Whiten your teeth
You don’t have to spend £700 at the dentist; get your hygienist to give you a full scale and polish, then choose a decent kit off the internet.
• Cut down on alcohol
Not only does drink have a dehydrating effect on the body, but it dilates the capillaries, which leads to a rosy flush on the face (not in a good way) and has a general inflammatory effect on the body that encourages ageing.
• Have your eyebrows shaped
Having your eyebrows professionally shaped – and possibly tinted – is one of those minor beauty revelations that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it before. A defined brow opens and lifts the eye area in a way that’s little short of wondrous.
• Learn to curl your eyelashes
Give them a squeeze with an eyelash curler, which looks like a giant pair of nail scissors with a clamp on the end, before you apply mascara and see how it opens up your eyes.
• Wear blusher
Get blusher right – the right colour, in the right place – and your face will look instantly fresher and livelier. The easiest way to start is with a sheer gel blusher – simpler to use and to spread thinly. Smile, pat onto the apples of your cheeks, and blend up and out from there towards the hairline. And remember that less is more. 33
Celebrity Gossip
Congratulations Wills and Kate!
e is Georg er Lou d n a x e Al Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed a baby boy at 16:24 on the 22nd of July weighing 8lb 6oz. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital. Catherine was thought to be nearly a week overdue when she was admitted at around 6am on 22nd with her hubby Prince William by her side. The baby’s arrival last month triggered frenetic coverage from global media who had camped for days on the doorstep of the London hospital where he was born, as well as celebratory gun salutes and the illumination of London landmarks in blue. “It’s a special time,” said the 31-year-old Duchess of Cambridge, who was wearing a cornflower-blue dress with her brunette hair loose. “I think any new parent would know what this feeling feels like.” The duke, also 31, told reporters that “he’s got her looks, thankfully” as Kate playfully demurred, then added: “He’s got a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure”. The Royals were apparently, “delighted to announce” their son’s name, adding that their beautiful baby and third-in-line to the throne will be known as “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.”
Peter Andre and girlfriend Emily MacDonagh expecting a baby together Peter Andre and his girlfriend Emily MacDonagh are expecting their first child together. Emily is due to give birth early next year, and both Pete and Emily are thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents together. Pete is already dad to son Junior, eight, and daughter Princess, six, and still remains close to his former stepson Harvey, 11. The addition of his new baby with Emily will see his family grow, which is just fine with the Mysterious Girl singer who wants a big family. Pete is apparently thrilled as he has always wanted a big family. This time, however, Pete wants to keep this part of his personal life private. 34
Details of how devastated Lea Michele discovered Cory Monteith’s death have emerged
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have spent just over £500,000 on four gold-plated toilets for their new home.
Lea and Cory had been dating for more than a year and Lea Michele was having a girls’ night in with friends when she got the devastating call that boyfriend Cory Monteith was dead.
The couple have been staying with Kim’s mum KRIS JENNER while work on their new mansion in LA’s Bel Air is finished. Now that they have a completion date they have started buying furniture and fittings.
Co-star and girlfriend of the troubled Glee star Lea, 26, started “freaking out” according to pals and fled into hiding.
Kanye has ordered six specialedition beds from the company that supplies London’s Savoy Hotel, costing £114,000 each.
Lea had just got back from Mexico with Cory and was in a great mood according to pals.
They are also kitting out their kitchen with almost £500,000 of Electrolux gear and a Swarovskiencrusted fridge freezer.
Cory died in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13 after accidentally taking a toxic overdose of heroin and alcohol. Friends said Lea fled from the house, terrifying she would be stalked by paparazzi after the news broke of Cory’s death.
A source said: “They expect the interior to cost twice as much as the property. They’re spending more than a million on a security system alone.”
Lea apparently attempted to take care of Cory when he was living in America and working in Hollywood but he is said to have struggled with his demons when he returned to his home country of Canada. She also reportedly organised the intervention staged by her fellow Glee cast members and the show’s crew when they encouraged Cory to enter rehab earlier this year.
Nicole Appleton and Liam Gallagher Defiant Nicole Appleton laughed off her marriage woes on her holiday without hubby Liam Gallagher, as she joked around with her family at Disney World. The former All Saints singer who was in Florida with sisters Lee and Natalie, kept up a brave face over his alleged cheating by taking their son Gene, 12, to meet Mickey Mouse. It was only when she and her sisters held a summit over a meal at their Orlando hotel that the mask dropped. The mum, 38, was still not wearing the wedding ring given to her five years ago by ex-Oasis frontman Liam, 40. A witness said as the rocker remained banished from the holiday amid claims he fathered a lovechild in New York. Revelations that US journalist Liza Ghorbani, 39, had filed a paternity suit emerged while Liam was with his band Beady Eye in Spain. She is demanding that he pays for the upkeep of her seven-month-old daughter Gemma. Fed-up Liam is said to have told pals he is “sick and tired” of fighting to make his marriage work. 35

e lly Tricks B t a l F Here are some surprising foods, tricks, and moves that are sworn to get you the midriff you crave. These genius tips will help you shed inches and pounds, banish the bloat, and help you feel even more confident than ever.
1
Eat at this magic hour
You must eat a snack that contains protein between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Go for a protein bar, a piece of low-fat cheese, or some almonds with an organic apple. No matter what, do not miss that snack. It’s important because it boosts metabolism and balances blood sugar. The lower you keep your blood sugar, the lower you keep your insulin, and insulin makes you store fat around your middle. Eating every three to four hours will keep your blood sugar even, but many people tend to go five or six hours between lunch and dinner without eating.
2
Have a ball
Do the ball exchange three times a week. Lay flat on your back with your arms above your head and legs straight out. Start with a stability ball above your head in your hands. Bring the ball up above your chest as you bring your legs up to meet the ball and place it between your ankles. Bring the ball back down to the floor with your legs and straighten your arms back out over your head. Repeat the ball exchange 10 to 12 times, remembering to keep your lower back pressed into the floor as you do this move.

Beef up on this belly-zapping hormone
Eat as close to zero grams of sugar as possible. This will keep insulin levels low and also keep levels of glucagon high. Glucagon, a hormone, is the best friend you could ever have in the struggle for a flat belly! Picture Ms. Pac-Man travelling around your waistline, gobbling up fat to be used as energy. That is glucagon.
8
The closer to zero grams of sugar you consume, the lower your insulin and the higher your glucagon...it’s as simple as that.
Chew on this
Chewing is the No. 1 tip I give to prevent bloating. Chew food until it is like applesauce in your mouth. Digestion begins in the mouth, and without proper chewing, food is not welldigested. Better-digested food means less gas and bloating.
Put crunches last on your flat-belly list (yes, really!)
I recommend the DCBA approach: Diet first, Cardio second, Building muscle third, and Abs exercises last. Follow it and you can safely lose one to two pounds a week. Spend 60 minutes a day preparing healthier meals. Spend 20 minutes a day three to five times weekly doing cardio. Spend 15 minutes a day three times a week strength training. Finally, spend 5 minutes a day three times a week doing abs exercises.
Shake on the sea salt
The culprit making your tummy bloat? It could be the salt in your diet. Use natural sea salt or kosher salt, which is lower in sodium teaspoon for teaspoon than traditional table salts. And stay away from soy sauce: Even low-sodium soy sauce is still high in sodium and will cause practically instant bloating. Instead, flavour your food with a little fresh tomato salsa or a hint of cayenne pepper, which has an added benefit of boosting metabolism.
Try the flat-belly cheat
Play up a different body part to draw attention from your middle. If it’s your legs, wear skirts or slim pants. Shoulders – bare them even if just a bit with a boatneck or sweetheart neckline. Cleavage? Make sure your bra does its job. If your bra rides up in the back, the bra has likely stretched out. If it accentuates back flab or if the space between the cups doesn’t lie flat, go up a size.
9
Punch it out and lose 2 inches fast
Add boxing to your cardio routine. When you throw punches with weights or at a fast pace, you’re working your core in a way that helps to flatten your midsection. You must engage your core to throw punches, and twisting your torso works all the ab muscles. Boxing also gives you a cardio workout that burns extra calories. Add 16 minutes of boxing three times a week to your regular cardio routine (30 minutes at high intensity four to five times a week), and you can lose up to 2 inches from your waist in four weeks. Simply throw punches while holding 1- or 2-pound weights for 8 minutes, alternating arms, then repeat without weights at a faster pace for 8 more minutes.
Size matters
Eating portion-controlled meals that include whole-grain foods and monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) throughout the day is the best way to eat for a flat belly: People who eat whole grains lose more abdominal fat. And making most of the fats you eat MUFAs reduces ab flab, research says.
10
The ultimate flat-belly menu
Best breakfast: A slice of whole -wheat bread with natural pean ut butter and 1 cu p of your favourite berries . Best lunch: Spin ach salad with sli ced avocado, grilled firm tofu, and cherry tomat oes, drizzled with a little olive oil and fresh lem on juice. Best dinner: Grille d salmon, a roas ted sweet potato, and saut éed asparagus w ith olive oil and garlic. Best snack: A cu p of fat-free yogu rt with 2 tablespoons su nflower seeds.

Dry sand is just about the perfect ground for training. Its uneven surface keeps your body guessing, it’s forgiving on your joints, and it randomly displaces and shifts under your weight, forcing you to engage more muscle. For this highintensity workout, mark off a 20-meter area of beach. This will be your area to train in. Try for five circuits (3 if your new to training). After completing one, immediately do 10 push-ups, then rest for 30 seconds before beginning the next circuit.

The truth about
Gluten More and more supermarkets and health food shops stock gluten-free products. That’s good news for people with celiac disease, who for health reasons should not eat wheat with gluten. Yet paradoxically, most of the people who reach for gluten-free products don’t have celiac disease and or even a sensitivity to wheat, Peter H.R. Green, MD, director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University, told WebMD.
“The market for glutenfree products is exploding. Why exactly we don’t know. Many people may just perceive that a glutenfree diet is healthier.” In fact, it isn’t. For people with celiac disease, a gluten-free diet is essential. But for others, “unless people are very careful, a gluten-free diet can lack vitamins, minerals, and fiber,” says Green.
Celiac Disease – Serious and often undetected Experts estimate that about 1% of Americans have celiac disease. The condition, caused by an abnormal immune response to gluten, can damage the lining of the small intestine. That, in turn, can prevent important nutrients from being absorbed. Symptoms of celiac disease include diarrhoea, anaemia, bone pain, and a severe skin rash called dermatitis herpetiformis. But celiac disease often has few or no symptoms. In part for that reason, only about 5% to 10% of cases are diagnosed in the U.S., Green says.
be tested. The first test is typically a blood test that detects antibodies related to an abnormal immune response. If the blood test is positive, a biopsy is performed to confirm inflammation in the lining of the small intestines.
But what if you don’t have Celiac Disease? Some people may be sensitive to gluten but don’t have outright celiac disease. These people may feel better on a diet with less gluten.
How can you know if you have celiac disease? The only way is to

For starters, going gluten-free means saying no to many common and nutritious foods. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Gluten also shows up in many whole grain foods related to wheat, including bulgur, farro, kamut, spelt, and triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye). Some celiac disease experts warn patients to steer clear of oats, as well. Gluten itself doesn’t offer special nutritional benefits. But the many whole grains that contain gluten do. They’re rich in an array of vitamins and minerals, such as B vitamins and iron, as well as fibre. Studies show that whole grain foods, as part of a healthy diet, may help lower risk of heart disease, type-2 diabetes, and some forms of cancer. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that half of all carbohydrates in the diet come from whole grain products. To be sure, a few whole grains don’t contain gluten, including amaranth, millet, and quinoa. But they are far less common than gluten-containing grains. Meeting the dietary guidelines goal is very tough if you have to eliminate wheat, barley, rye, kamut, and other glutencontaining whole grains.
Chilli Festival We have noticed the lack of chilli festivals here in Spain and would like to get something organised. But before going ahead we want to get some feedback from like-minded chilli lovers! Do you grow or sell chillies, make your own sauces, or simply enjoy chillies? Would you like to see a chilli festival take place in Gibraltar, or somewhere along the coast up to Malaga? Or do you know of an event which we haven’t found? If so, please get in touch! All feedback would be appreciated!

Do you cook as healthily as you think?
So what’s wrong with the rest of us giving a gluten-free diet a try to see how we feel?
If you want a truly healthy meal, you have to cook it yourself. But sometimes, you put in all of the effort of making a nutritious meal, only to find that you’ve fallen prey to one of the many healthy-cooking mistakes. Avoid taking the healthiness out of your meal by learning about common cooking mistakes.
n Putting oil in pasta water
Adding oil to your pasta water makes it harder for sauce to stick to your pasta. It also strips certain nutrients out of the pasta and can add on unnecessary calories. Instead, keep your water boiling consistently so the pasta is always moving around and stir it frequently.
n Going heavy on the sauces
Only use enough sauce to add flavour to the dish and do the same when it comes to dressings for salads. When possible, use low-calorie, low-sodium or low-fat sauces.
n Boiling your veg
When vegetables are boiled, a good deal of their nutrients – like vitamins and proteins – are eliminated. Instead, try using a steamer or even throw them on the grill to lock in the flavour and nutritional value.
n Peeling the produce
You may be used to peeling your fruits and veggies before eating them but resist that urge. A lot of fruits and vegetables hold their essential nutrients – like vitamins A and C – in or right beneath their skin, so ingest this part of the produce as much as possible to get all of the health benefits.
n Skimping on flavour
Many people think that a nutritious meal has to be tasteless and bland, but this simply isn’t true. Eating foods that are low on flavour will make healthy eating a chore, and you’ll be more likely to crave unhealthy, flavourful foods. Instead, give your food a flavour kick by using spices such as basil and cayenne pepper, which actually speed up your metabolism. 57 57
OF THE
Radishes are more than just a tasty, colourful addition to your salads. They are packed with nutrients and healthy benefits that can help prevent many ailments and diseases. And as well as the tasty root, you can also eat the leaves. After years of throwing the leaves aside, I have recently found out that radish greens are edible and in fact contain almost six times the vitamin C content of their root! Radish leaves can be eaten as part of a salad, they can be used in cooking, or add them to your smoothies. Radishes are a rich source of vitamin C and also provide iron, calcium, folic acid and potassium. They have a low glycemic index and are exceptional for diabetic people. This tasty, peppery vegetable is in season now, add them to your diet and reap the following benefits: Jaundice:
Radish is very good for the liver and the stomach and it is a very good detoxifier too, that is, it purifies blood. It is miraculously useful in jaundice as it helps removing bilirubin and also checks its production. It also checks destruction of red blood cells during jaundice by increasing supply of fresh oxygen in the blood. The black radish is more preferred in jaundice. The leaves of radish are also very useful in treatment of jaundice.
Piles:
Radish is very rich in roughage, i.e. indigestible carbohydrates. This facilitates digestion, retains water, cures constipation (one of the main causes for piles) and thus gives relief in piles. Being a very good detoxifier, it helps heal up piles fast. Its juice also soothes the digestive and excretory system and this also relieves piles.
58
Urinary Disorders:
Radishes are diuretic in nature, i.e. increase production of urine. Juice of radish also cures inflammation and burning feeling during urinating. It also cleans the kidneys and inhibits infections in kidneys and urinary system. Thus it helps a great deal in curing urinary disorders.
Weight Loss:
Radishes are very filling, i.e. fills your stomach and satisfies your hunger easily without giving you many calories, as they are low in digestible carbohydrates, high in roughage and contain a lot of water. It is a very good dietary option for those determined to lose weight.
Cancer:
Being a very good detoxifier and rich in vitamin-C, folic and anthocyanins, radish helps cure many types of cancer, particularly those of colon, kidney, intestines, stomach and oral cancer.
Skin Disorders:
Vitamin-C, phosphorus, zinc and some members of vitamin-B complex, which are present in radish, are good for skin. The water in it helps maintaining moisture of the skin. Smashed raw radish is a very good cleanser and serves as a very efficient face pack. Due to its disinfectant properties, radish also helps cure skin disorders, such as drying up, rashes, cracks etc. and also refreshes it.
Being diuretic, cleanser and disinfectant, it helps cure many kidney disorders. Its diuretic properties help wash away the toxins accumulated in the kidneys. Cleansing properties clean kidneys up and lessens accumulation of toxins in the blood, thereby decreasing their concentration in the kidneys. Its disinfectant properties protect the kidneys from any infections too. Thus it is good for overall health of the kidneys.

Fever:
It brings down the body temperature and relieves inflammation due to fever. Drink radish juice mixed with black salt. Being a good disinfectant, it also fights infections which cause fever, thereby helping cure it.
Respiratory Disorders, Bronchitis and Asthma:
Radish is an anti congestive, i.e. it relieves congestion of respiratory system including nose, throat, windpipe and lungs, due to cold, infection, allergies and other causes. It is a good disinfectant and also rich in vitamins, which protect respiratory system from infections.
Liver and Gallbladder:
Radish is especially beneficial for liver and gallbladder functions. It regulates production and flow of bile and bilirubin, acids, enzymes and removes excess bilirubin from the blood, being a good detoxifier. It also contains enzymes like myrosinase, diastase, amylase and esterase. It protects liver and gallbladder from infections and ulcers and soothes them.
Other Benefits:
Apart from above benefits, radish is a good appetizer, mouth and breath freshener, laxative, regulates metabolism, improves blood circulation, is a good treatment for headache, acidity, constipation, nausea, obesity, sore throat, whooping cough, gastric problems, gallbladder stones, dyspepsia etc.

Reducing symptoms of
Menopause
Going through the menopause? Want to stave off symptoms, protect yourself from injury and illness and feel fit and fabulous into the bargain? Here’s a simple guide to working out in tune with your body’s changes. Walking l Why try it? Low-impact aerobic exercise such as walking can help regulate your body temperature and fight symptoms such as hot flushes.
Yoga l Why try it? Yoga can be a saving grace for women coping with menopause. Inverted postures such as the shoulder stand and relaxing forward bends have a cooling, calming effect - which can help stave off hot flushes. And poses such as twists and back-bends stimulate the adrenal glands to regulate hormones, so you’re less likely to suffer from mood swings, irritability and fatigue.
Jogging l Why try it? Jogging is a great weight-bearing exercise and calorieburner - and it’s the obvious next step if you’re looking to ‘upgrade’ your daily walk to boost your fitness. But be warned: it can put your joints under a great deal of strain, so it’s advisable to seek out softer surfaces such as grass or sand to jog on, or use the treadmill in the gym. Use the gradient to increase the intensity and fire up the muscles in your legs and bottom.
60
Swimming l Why try it? If you can find time to get to the pool, it’s definitely well worth the effort. Swimming is a low-impact exercise that won’t put undue pressure on your joints, but will help you stay cool, burn off calories, boost muscle flexibility, improve balance and coordination, and feel more relaxed during the menopause. Try to concentrate on your breathing while you swim laps: this can help you enter an almost meditative state that’s excellent for stress control.
Pilates l Why try it? Pilates can help maintain flexibility and improve balance - which is a much neglected area of most women’s exercise regimes. It’s also great for controlling stress and mood swings during the menopause - largely because it requires deep, abdominal breathing that helps calm and focus the mind. And if your symptoms have been keeping you awake at night, you can learn a few moves - such as spinal rolling exercises - designed to encourage better sleep.
Crú @ Nueva Andalucía
Xen Tan ONLY

Pelvic floor exercises l Why try it? Due to the hormonal changes during the menopause, our pelvic floor muscles weaken. This can lead to incontinence and reduced sexual arousal. The solution? With regular exercise, these muscles can become stronger and the cells can even rejuvenate and become more active. Simply sit or stand comfortably and squeeze the muscles for a second or two - as if trying to stem the flow of urine - around 10 to 15 times in a row. Don’t hold your breath or tighten any other muscles.

What is sound massage and how will it benefit you? The Peter Hess-Sound Massage is based on ancient knowledge revealing the effect of sound for healing purposes. This technique was applied in Indian healing therapy over 5000 years ago. A person in harmony is centred, self-determined and ready to face challenges and solve problems. This harmony is threatened by the stresses of everyday life. Stress has been classified as factor No.1 for lifestyle illnesses such as cardiovascular problems, cerebral problems like strokes, diabetes, cancer and other by the WHO.
The sound massage with the singing bowls is a fantastic method as it invites the individual to simply relax, a beneficial deep relaxation state, and the individual does not have to do anything for it. But simply be and let go. This is when the mind stops working and the body can focus on self healing. For someone who is healthy, the inner harmony will be supported by the Sound Massage and energetically strengthened for our duties of everyday life. Creativity and creating power receive new impulses. The sound massage helps with physical, mental and spiritual problems to free ourselves from the discomfort caused by everyday stress, worries and fears.
62
Among other effects sound massage is able to: • Solve cervical and shoulder tensions • Remove headaches and migraines • Regulate the digestion • Release from abdomen tensions • Allow a better, deeper respiration • Improve the concentration ability • Support the natal work in all phases
How does the sound massage work? The sound massage works by sound and vibration. Our body consists of about 80% of water. If our body comes in contact with a sound – e.g., during a sound massage the vibrations spread out in concentric circles in the whole body– like a drop falls in the water. These gentle vibrations can loosen and release tensions and blockages in the muscles, joints and also in the entire body.
The sound vibrations bring each of our billion of cells into movement, which is often it is described as a full “cell massage”. The harmonious and rich in overtone sounds of the singing bowls appeal to the natural instinct of the person – which allows letting go and relaxation. The sound massage helps you to find inner harmony, which supports and strengthens the health.
What does a treatment consist of: During a treatment the therapy singing bowls are placed on the dressed body and tapped gently. These bowls are of high quality metals and handmade in Nepal. They come from the Peter Hess own manufacture and undergo quality management, as only the best come on the market for sale. In collaboration with doctors and physicians constant research is

Benefitting from all of the technical, engineering and design advances present in the Vanquish coupe, the new Volante enhances the driving experience still further through the option of exciting convertible driving.
Instantly becoming one of the most beautiful cars in its class, Aston Martin Vanquish Volante crucially retains the coupe’s dynamic character and sporting capability. It boasts the same new AM11 6.0-litre V12 engine as the coupe and the same blistering performance figures, meaning the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint is despatched in just 4.1 seconds (estimated) while the top speed stands at 183 mph (294 km/h).
The design of Aston Martin Vanquish Volante represents the latest take on Aston Martin’s iconic visual language. Styling cues such as the elegant waist, elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades are derived from the One-77 supercar while the folding fabric roof sits beneath a tonneau and decklid that have been aerodynamically tuned for optimum performance.
Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is the first fully carbon fibre-skinned Volante in the brand’s 100-year history, while also being the stiffest Volante body structure yet created by the engineering team at Aston Martin’s global HQ in Gaydon, Warwickshire, England. The new car’s triple-skin lightweight fabric roof takes just 14 seconds to fold.
The windscreen, meanwhile, is now full height - a first for Aston Martin - which means that the glass runs up to meet the fabric roof, thereby achieving a particularly clean transition.
Announcing the arrival of the Vanquish Volante Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez said: “This car is what luxury super GT driving is all about. Great performance, fantastic style and exhilarating Volante motoring in one superb package.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante’s ‘suit’ of carbon fibre panels cloaks a cabin that is both sophisticated and comfortable. The 2+2 cabin is elegantly attired in authentic and luxurious materials: full grain Luxmil leather with optional quilting, metal controls and satin chrome trim underscore the car’s well-appointed nature.
“
Aston Martin is celebrating 100 years of excellence in 2013, and the arrival of this new sports car - our ultimate Volante - underlines that our mission to make the next 100 years even more successful is starting perfectly.

Each body panel on the car is constructed from carbon fibre not just because of its high strengthto-weight ratio, but also for its flexibility of form. This not only reduces mass but means that fewer individual body panels are required - reducing joints and contributing to a more coherent and svelte shape. As practical as it is well-dressed, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante boasts a boot that’s fully 50% larger than that of the previous DBS Volante. It measures 279 litres - roof up or down - and makes the new Aston Martin the perfect choice for continent-crossing grand tours as well as daily drives. Perhaps one of the most striking interior design elements is the centre stack with refinements providing a more elegant form that is also more intuitive and accessible for both driver and front seat passenger.
Under its curvaceous carbon fibre bonnet the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante comprises the latest generation AM11 naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine which drives the rear wheels via a Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox. The V12’s power peak of 573 PS (565 bhp) arrives at 6,750 rpm while the torque peak of 620 Nm (457 lb ft) is available at 5,500 rpm. These numbers translate into performance that matches the Vanquish coupe’s and ensures the new car supports its Super GT billing. The dynamics have been tuned precisely, with new springs and damper settings calibrated to deliver the same crisp handling yet compliant ride as the coupe. Like its coupe counterpart, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante uses the latest generation of

Aston Martin’s class-leading VH (Vertical Horizontal) architecture, a lightweight bonded aluminium structure that provides outstanding strength and rigidity. In this iteration, the Vanquish now includes the addition of significant semi-structural carbon fibre components, as well as the use of bonding derived directly from the latest aerospace technologies. Aston Martin’s Adaptive Damping System (ADS) allows the driver to switch between three distinct damping modes: Normal, Sport and Track, delivering instant adjustment of the car’s ride and handling characteristics. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond quickly to different driving conditions. The different damping modes available help significantly
broaden the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante’s character, adapting its set-up to suit the driver’s mood and requirements. Thus it can be a cruising GT car in Normal mode with the capacity to morph into an assertive sports car in Sport and Track modes.
The car’s braking system features third generation Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) parts to deliver shorter stopping distances with resistance to fade in even the most demanding driving conditions. CCM brakes are also lighter than a conventional system, reducing the weight of the car overall and, in particular, the unsprung weight and rotational masses, further enhancing the performance of the suspension.
“
This is not simply a great-looking car - this is a great car engineered and crafted for the connoisseur by people dedicated to delivering exceptional sports cars with clearly defined characters.
”
Priced from £199,995 RRP in the UK; €264,995 RRP in Germany; $297,995, first deliveries of the new sports car are expected to begin in the UK and Continental Europe late in 2013.

Premiership Season Preview 2013-2014
Arsenal Arsene Wenger
Talk has it that Arsene Wenger can splash the cash this summer and buy a few world stars. Through careful management Wenger has managed to finance a continued presence in the Champions League and the paying off of their new stadium by spending limited amounts on players. So far this summer there have been bids for Higuain from Real Madrid and Suarez from Liverpool, which shows he means business. Fellaini, Fabregas and Bender from Leverkeusen have also been mentioned as possible buys. Knowing Wenger though he’ll still unearth some French or African (with French colonial ties) out of the woodwork who will burst out onto the scene. If Arsenal buy well then they can certainly make the title race interesting and I think they’ll comfortably challenge for third. 90
Aston Villa Christian Benteke
So Villa have been very busy in the transfer market so far and let’s face it they need to be. Flirting with relegation for most of the season, they needed new players and so they’ve already brought in 6 players who can only strengthen the squad. The real problem that Villa face is the problem of strikers: Bent who wants to play but can’t get a game and Benteke who wants to move to a bigger club. Quotes for Benteke have been as much as 25 mil and with Arsenal and Spurs interested they might just get that. If Villa could then replace him with Demba Ba from Chelsea for 10 mil or so then that might be some decent business on their part. I think they’ll be better this season than last and with Lambert building the squad they’ll probably end up mid table somewhere.
Cardiff City Tom Ince
So finally Cardiff got there. After years of being so close they finally gained promotion. They’re absolute priority now is to stay there and they’ve invested well in young striker, Andreas Cornelius (£7.5m, FC Copenhagen). If they could get hold of Tom Ince as well then they might have a chance of survival. There tends to be a team which arrives from the Championship and does well, Cardiff are my tip for doing that.
Chelsea
Jose Mourinho
So the return of the special one actually happened. Mourinho is
back and with that a huge amount of expectation. He’s already spent quite a bit of money on Schurlle and Van Ginkel and strengthened his goalkeeping position with the signing of Mark Schwarzer from Fulham for free. Out goes players well past their sell by date such as Benayoun, Ferreira, Hilario and Malouda. Whoever Jose picks to fill those spaces will bring extra class and squad competition and I fully expect Chelsea to challenge for the title this season. Hulk, Dzeko, Modric, Rossi, Sneijder, Yilmaz and Rooney have all been mentioned and owner Roman Abramovich can probably buy them all. Chelsea will be stronger this season and with Mourinho’s will to win I think less experienced managers may fall to his antics. Possible title winners.
Roberto Martinez
gone and brought in 3 Wigan players who er...got relegated last year. Can Martinez continue the success of the past? I have my doubts and I also expect Everton to tumble down the table to a mid table slot. If they keep hold of Baines and Fellaini then they have a chance of challenging for Europe, if they lose them, then they have no chance.
Fulham Martin Jol
Crystal Palace Peter odemwingie
So Palace waited until the last game and the playoffs and the last minute of extra time to score a dubious penalty to gain promotion. That they did so with the help of Wilfried Zaha bought by Manchester United and now going off to join them, Palace have a tough task to not go straight back down again. They’re in the mix to buy Peter Odemwingie from West Brom and he might fill the Zaha gap. They may still struggle though and will have to fight off relegation all season.
So Al fayed has sold up to Americans; that’s 6 Premiership teams owned by Yanks now. But with that extra money Fulham may surprise quite a few people this season. Martin Jol is a top class manager and with the new players of Stekelenburg, Boateng and possibly Defoe they could end up in the top half of the table. If the new owners spend some money though because if they don’t Fulham will struggle once again.
Hull City
with Darren Bent from Villa and he would be perfect to bring the goals in. Carlton Cole, Lee Cattermole and Palacios would also do a job and if they could get those type of players they could certainly survive. I have a feeling that they won’t though.
Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers
This is a massive season for Liverpool and if Brendan Rodgers doesn’t get it right, he’ll be out by Christmas. He’ll have to deal with Suarez wanting to leave and needing to strengthen that vacant strikers position and holes in the defense. If he does that then he has a chance of challenging for top 5 at least. So far he’s bought well with Kolo Toure on a free and Alberto, Aspas and Mignolet for 23 mil combined, those players will strengthen the squad but he needs at least 2 if not 3 players who could walk into the first team. He’s been linked with defender Papadopoulos from Schalke and Alderweireld (defense) and Eriksen (att mid) from Ajax. All would strengthen Liverpool even when Suarez leaves.
Manchester City Manuel Pellegrini
Everton Everton have been turned into a top 6 team under Moyes with limited money. Now that Moyes has gone what should be expected? Well Roberto Martinez from Wigan is the replacement and he’s instantly
Steve Bruce
Steve Bruce’s Hull arrive and deservedly so. They’ve signed some seasoned pro’s with premiership experience and they will certainly need it if they’re not to get relegated. Hull have been linked
City seriously underachieved last season and that was down to Mancini. His odd devotion to Balotelli unsettled the squad until Christmas and after that he just messed up tactically. It was right 91
to get rid of him because one got the feeling that he had lost the squad and they had started to question him. Never a good thing. Pellegrini from Malaga now arrives and he will change the whole ethos of the club. Pellegrini was never given a fair chance at Real Madrid and so now comes to a club who will back him up completely. He’s already bought Fernandinho for 30 million and Jesus Navas for 15 mil and he shows no sign at stopping there. Despite Carlos Tevez leaving for Juventus, the City squad is probably still the best in the premiership and with a couple more good additions I can see City being a serious force not only in the league but also the Champions League (with Pellegrini excelling at times).
Newcastle United
Manchester United
Norwich City
David Moyes
As the summer has continued I’m still surprised to see no major signing for United. Having missed out on Thiago to Bayern Munich, I was still expecting quite a few signings by now. The only arrival is Wilfried Zaha who was signed by Fergie last season. There have been rumours about Leighton Baines and Fellaini following Moyes from Everton and of course the return of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. All three are in serious doubt and if United aren’t careful they’ll start the season with an aging squad and a disgruntled Rooney. This of course might be the reason Fergie left the job and saw that a squad rebuild will take too long. Moyes can do this but whether he gets the same amount of time as Fergie did is another matter. Without at least 4 or 5 essential buys United might struggle. I think United will still get top 4 but only just, which might prove very interesting indeed. 92
Joe Kinnear
What can you say about Newcastle? A team which at times was everybody’s favourite second team. Not now and not with Joe f***ing Kinnear at the helm as Director of Football. A disaster waiting to happen. Newcastle were unlucky with injuries last season and if that continues Newcastle will have relegation to worry about. With no money forthcoming from Mike Ashley I can see it being a long and perilous season for Newcastle fans.
Chris Hughton
Norwich did pretty well on their first year back in the premiership and I think they’ll strengthen again with Chris Hughton. Buying Ricky van Wolfswinkel for 8.6 mil was a bold move and he should do well. Garrido from Lazio will also add some experience and quality. I expect Norwich to comfortably end up mid table with even a sniff of European football at times.
decision of sacking Adkins and bringing in Mauricio Pocheettino. The team played pretty well for the rest of the season and now the board is buying well with the arrival of Dejan Lovren and Victor Wanyama for 20 million combined. If no money is spent strengthening any team they will flirt with relegation and if relegated it can mean financial disaster. Just look at Leeds and Forest and this season, Newcastle.
Stoke City Mark Hughes
So the return of Mark Hughes to the Premiership after the debacle of his stay at QPR. I’ve never rated Hughes as a manager and I still don’t. Stoke sacked manager Tony Pulis after 7 years who had turned Stoke into Premiership stalwarts. As soon as there were some difficulties they sacked him, how people forget. Stoke will remain hard to beat, but at heart they’re one dimensional and with their strike force aging I think they might be in trouble this season. They’ll flirt with relegation for most of it.
Sunderland Paolo di Canio
Southampton Victor Wanyama
Fair play to Southampton with their signings both on and off the field. The board took the strange
So Paolo di Canio did make a massive difference at the end of last season, because the previous manager Martin O’Neill had lost the team. Sunderland have been linked with 2 Spurs players Parker and Huddlestone who can only strengthen them. Though they’ve sold the best goalkeeper in the
premiership to Liverpool they’ve also brought in striker Altidore who can really play, Giaccherini as playmaker, Peruzzi in defence and quite a few others. I think Sunderland will improve this season and as long as they end up above hated local rivals Newcastle I think they’ll be very happy. They’ll survive and end up in mid table somewhere.
he thinks they should be bringing in another striker at least I think he’ll be around next season. If they buy well and keep Bale then a top four finish can be theirs.
West Bromwich Albion Nicolas Anelka
Swansea City
Michael Laudrup
So Laudrup looks like staying and he certainly has a nose for finding talent in Spain, buying 4 players. He’s also forked out 6 mil for Jonjo Shelvey from Liverpool and Bony from Arnhem for 12 mil. There are bargains in Spain at the moment due to the economic crisis and keep an eye out for the Swansea Spaniards this year. Laudrup says he’s after one more striker and then he’ll be happy and with the likes of Lukaku from Chelsea and Negredo from Sevilla being mentioned, he seems to have money to spend. I fully expect Swansea to challenge for Europe this season.
Steve Clarke continues to go about his business quietly and with not much media fanfare. Brendan Rodgers take note. With the arrival of Anelka and Popov West Brom have added some class to their team. Odemwingie will be gone soon and so will no longer cast a shadow over the rest of the team which is all to the good. Kalou, Malouda and Sinclair have all been mentioned and they would all add quality to the team. I expect West Brom to challenge for Europe next season.
DOES YOUR BAR SHOW THE FOOTBALL?
West Ham United Andy Carroll
Tottenham Hotspur Gareth Bale
So close last season and if they can keep Bale away from the clutches of Real Madrid then they can go one better this season. They’ve bought an excellent player in Paulinho for 17 mil from Corinthians and I expect a couple more buys in the coming months. There’s talk of selling Defoe but as
There has been talk of a return of Joey Barton to the premiership and if anyone can get the best out of the mad one, then Allardyce probably can. With Cole and Nolan playing well and the possibility of interest in Downing, I expect a top ten finish once more from the Hammers and maybe even a challenge for Europe.
The purchase of Andy Carroll shows intent and if the hammers bought another decent striker they could challenge for higher than their tenth finish of last season. Allardyce will make them physically strong but also allow a certain amount of flair as well. Carroll might shine once he gains his confidence and if the team plays to his strengths.

Swansea vs Man Utd
SATURDAY 17TH AUGUST Arsenal vs A Villa
Mark Hughes
Stoke always make it difficult for Liverpool and will try to out muscle them. If Stoke can keep it tight and frustrate the Reds then this could end in stalemate, but I think Liverpool know that they have to start well this season and as it’s at home they should just edge it. 2-0.
Norwich vs Everton
This could be a cracking match with both sides much to prove. Norwich will be improved and they are at home, and Everton doesn’t have Moyes, so that should even things up a bit. Everton should win this game but I think it’ll end up in a draw. 1-1.
Sunderland vs Fulham
Another interesting game which heralds new beginnings for both sides; post Al Fayed and post Martin O’Neill. With the amount of unknown Italians and Latins being bought by di Canio, Sunderland could be completely unrecognizable from last season. If they gel well they could surprise a lot of people which I think they will do here on the first day. 2-1 to Sunderland. 94
FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS
Liverpool vs Stoke City
Premiership
With the money spent this summer on world stars, Arsenal face Aston Villa who diced with relegation last season. Villa will have probably lost their star player Benteke and so expect similar struggles for Villa this season. Arsenal are at home and a much better side so I’ll go for a 2-0 win to Arsenal.
Saturday 17th August – Saturday 1st September
West Brom vs Southampton
Victor Wanyama
This is not the best game United would want on their first game back. Sure it will test them to the hilt because Swansea will certainly fancy their chances and if United come through and win then all will be roses. But if they take time to get used to Moyes system? And if they lose and struggle? It’ll be interesting to see how United respond. Personally I can’t wait! 1-1 draw.
Both have strengthened and play attractive football and as this is the first game of the season this could be a humdinger. Anelka can score blindfolded and Wanyama for Southampton can do too, West Brom might just edge it though 3-2.
West Ham vs Cardiff
West Ham will want to put the new boys in their place. So with their squad of quality players such as Carroll, Cole and Nolan against the new Welsh boys, I think they’ll edge the game. 1-0 to the Hammers.
SUNDAY 18TH AUGUST Chelsea vs Hull City
Mourinho’s Chelsea face newcomers Hull. It should be a full house at Stamford Bridge and so expect a bit of a cake walk for Chelsea. All the Chelsea players will have something to prove and can still be sold. As this is the first game of the season, Hull will want to show themselves in a good light and have nothing to lose. I still see Chelsea winning though 2-0.
C Palace vs Tottenham
A tricky game for Spurs as Palace will certainly want to show their stuff for their first game at home. This may well be a draw if Spurs are found sleeping. 1-1
MONDAY 19TH AUGUST Man City vs Newcastle
In the old days this would be an excellent game to look forward, but Newcastle need a minor miracle this season which isn’t going to come at City. City players will want to make a mark to the new manager and tell the rest of the premiership that they mean business. 3-0 to City.
SATURDAY 24TH AUGUST Aston Villa vs Liverpool
This game should be a foregone conclusion with a Liverpool away win. Liverpool were better away from Anfield last season than they were at home and Villa ok at home. If Villa can stifle Liverpool then they may get some joy from the game, but personally I can’t see it. 1-2 to Liverpool.
Everton vs West Brom
Has Martinez got what it takes? Can he continue the success of Everton or turn them into another Wigan? West Brom will certainly test them and I have a feeling that West Brom will win today. 0-1. tinez Roberto Mar
Fulham vs Arsenal
I would imagine the most important thing to drum into the Fulham players would be containment. If Fulham can do that then they might get something out of this game. They’re not going to though. 0-1 to Arsenal.
Hull City vs Norwich
A time for Hull to prove themselves and so welcome Norwich to their ground. I see a draw here 0-0 and they’ll both be happy with it.
Newcastle vs West Ham
know damn well he can’t. No mind games from United now which might make all the difference in the title challenge. Moyes is devoutly Christian and won’t lower himself to such matters and concentrate on football and so Mourinho will wipe the floor with him. And the winner is? Chelsea 0 -1.
Southampton vs Sunderland
David
To St James Park and home for Newcastle. They will need their home support this season to be very vocal to balance the lack of money coming into the team. This won’t be good enough but at least the fans will be up for it. This has a draw written all over it. 1-1.
Southampton have a chance of winning this, their first home game and I think they will. It’s a long way to travel for Sunderland and their heart might not just be in it. 2-0 to Southampton.
Stoke City vs C Palace
Two teams with nothing to lose and no real expectations. This game could go either way as Stoke are at home and Palace might attack and want the 3 points. A draw here is to be expected 1-1.
SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST Tottenham vs Swansea
Another tricky game for Spurs as Swansea are no mugs and will want to prove themselves. Spurs though should have just enough class to win out. If they fail at this stage they will not be in the running for the season. Spurs to win 2-1.
Cardiff vs Man City
New teams can provide shocks at the start of the season. Can Cardiff shock City? Unlikely. But they may get a draw. I’ll go for 1-1.

SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST Cardiff vs Everton
Cardiff greet Everton and both teams will want to prove a point to the rest of the league. Cardiff want to send a message that they’re strong at home and Everton away from home. I think Cardiff will get their first win here. 1-0 to Cardiff.
Chelsea vs A Villa
Chelsea meet Villa and will want to get the full 3 points. They’ll do so as well as I can’t see Villa having any chance against Mourinho’s men. 2-0 to Chelski.
C Palace vs Sunderland Crystal Palace can be a difficult place to go to, but I can see Sunderland getting all the points today. Only just though. 0-1.
Paolo de Canio
Man Utd vs Chelsea
Great game with no prisoners taken. Expect loads of nonsense from Mourinho about how he was offered the United job but turned it down ‘cos he’ll always be Chelsea’ etc. I’m looking forward to seeing if Moyes can respond, but I 95
96
Man City will want to stamp their mark on regaining their title and so will want to put Hull to the sword. Hull will do well just to keep the score down and possibly might cause a few problems. Man city to win though 1-0.
Though Newcastle might be in turmoil they still have home advantage here and if some injuries get back on the field they may even edge this one against Fulham who never really travel well. Newcastle win. 1-0.
Liverpool vs Man Utd
One of the games of the season! A wobbly United against a team who will do anything and I mean anything to put a nail in their coffin. Football is more important than life and death? These two clubs would happily put a nail into the coffin of the opposing side. Suarez can’t play because he’s still banned and United are still missing a lot of key personnel. So how will this end? I think Liverpool will edge this. 1-0.
West Brom vs Swansea
The 2 surprise packages of last season meet for the first time in this one. Both teams play attractive football and I think they just might go for goals. I’ll go for a West Brom win 3-2.
West Ham vs Stoke City
David M

Arsenal vs Tottenham
Top class game at this stage with the winner laying down bragging rights for half of the season. Both games went to Spurs last time and so they’ll fancy their chances this year round. But because this game is at Arsenal both side will probably settle for a point. 2-2. Arsene Wenger
This may be the season that we see the back of Stoke. It came close last season and I don’t see Mark Hughes being good enough to change things. Allardyce however continues to build and I think West Ham can become a force this season. West Ham to win 2-0.
30th August Bayern Munich vs Chelsea
Brendan Rodgers
Norwich vs Southampton
Although Southampton are a good team I think Norwich can outplay anybody on their day and I think with the sunlight at Carrow Road they’ll beat Southampton quite comfortably. 2-1 to Norwich.
European Super Cup
Pep Guardiola
Newcastle vs Fulham
SUNDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER
This cup has started to gain in importance over the past few years. It looks good on a managers CV and it can provide a spur for the Champions League which is essential to any club. Mourinho vs Guardiola. The fight is on. Both will SERIOUSLY want to prove a point after all the antics in Spain aka Real Madrid vs Barcelona. Who will win? Bayern will. 2-1.
Jose Mourinho
Man City vs Hull City

Golf
US PGA Championship
8th-11th August - Oak Hill Country Club, New York
Will McIlroy retain his title? Rory McIlroy caught his first glimpse of the course where he’ll defend his PGA Championship title in August, and he liked what he saw of Oak Hill Country Club, with its mature trees at every turn. ‘’When I think of the PGA Championship, I think of courses like this. This course is timeless,’’ McIlroy said Monday after shooting 67 in a practice round. ‘’It’s not only long, but it’s hard to drive the ball well. You’ve got some chances out there. Then again, you’ve got a tough finish.’’ The 24-year-old Northern Irishman, also the 2011 U.S. Open champion, has had a fairly rough year so far. He missed the cut in Abu Dhabi, lost in the opening round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and walked out of the second round at the Honda Classic in a display of utter frustration. His game has since begun to slowly turn around, though he has yet to win this year – and has been replaced at No. 1 in the world ranking by Tiger Woods. ‘’Great players are defined by their major victories,’’ McIlroy said. ‘’Whenever you think about a golf legacy, you think about the majors. I guess I got off to a good start. I want to keep that going.’’ 98
