Entertainment Star of the hit television show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and its spin off show Vanderpump Rules, Lisa Vanderpump is more commonly known only as a cast member in a reality show but in fact, the British entrepreneur has a vast and varied background and has owned some of the world’s most popular restaurants.
8
Lisa Vanderpump B
orn in September 1960 in London, Lisa Jane Vanderpump spent her early years as a full time drama student and starred in numerous television shows and films as a child. Her childhood contemporaries at school also include Ray Winstone, Nicolas Lyndhurst and Cleo Rocos. Throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s Vanderpump had various roles on television including Baywatch Nights and Silk Stockings, as well as featuring in some 80’s music videos such as Poison Arrow by ABC and What In The Name of Love by Naked Eyes.
It was while working in London that Lisa, at just 21, met her future husband, 37 year old Ken Todd who had made money in the rag trade and owned Corks Bar in Kensington. The couple hit it off immediately, with Ken later saying that she was like a breath of fresh air into his life. Lisa quickly immersed herself in Ken’s business, taking on a designer role which she has stayed with to this day, but it wasn’t until 1995, after her four year stint in Los
Angeles that the actress decided she would be in front of the screen no more. While in LA with Lisa, Ken had opened a chain of pizza restaurants but they had not done as well as the couple hoped, so after the earthquake in the city in 1994, their minds were quickly made up and they returned home to London. Over the next few years, the couple were quick to open many bars and restaurants in London’s trendy areas, including Soho and Kensington. With a number of striving businesses under their belt including the Shadow Lounge, Bar Soho and the TV themed megabar Cheers on Regent Street, Ken and Lisa opened Jewel, a steakhouse on Piccadilly Circus that was one of their best ventures to date.
It wasn’t long before the couple got itchy feet however, and in 2005 went back to Los Angeles to invest into another restaurant with some friends. Sur Restaurant was previously owned by Guillermo and Nathalie Zapata but when Ken and Lisa were looking for a new project
in the city, the couple were quick to invite Vanderpump and Todd to the exotic venue. The restaurant strived and quickly became a hot spot of L.A. and Lisa has since stated that she knew that they could improve their portfolio with yet another restaurant in the city. A location soon became available and the couple swooped in to open Villa Blanca, which is now known as one of the restaurants to see and be seen in. Celebrities flock to the chic, French-style restaurant that was completely designed by Lisa and you will often see hoards of paparazzi outside on a daily basis.
Shortly after opening Villa Blanca, the franchise behind The Real Housewives of Orange County, and its subsequent sister programmes, began looking for housewives in Beverly Hills and Lisa’s name was quickly added to the mix. Already a ‘face’ in the city and known for her style and charm, Lisa was an obvious choice to take part in the reality series featuring affluent, bourgeois, professional and (mostly) married women. 9

Taking a role alongside former child actresses Kim and Kyle Richards (also aunts to Paris Hilton), Camille Grammer (Kelsey Grammer’s then wife), heiress and businesswoman Adrienne Maloof and Taylor Armstrong, Lisa took centre stage quickly and became a firm favourite with fans. The show, which is known for its cat fights, lavish parties, and being over the top in… well everything, portrays the women in their supposed everyday lives, which involves private jets, $100,000 children’s birthday parties and some pretty hair-raising moments.
Now in its fourth series, the show has gone from strength to strength with Lisa one of the only few initial stars remaining, but it is clear to see why – her wit, panache and quick humour make her one of the most favourite housewives from all of
the franchises. During her time on the show, there have been many scenes filmed at her restaurants Villa Blanca and Sur and just last year, Vanderpump was approached to also star in a spin-off series entitled Vanderpump Rules which would revolve around her and the chaotic staff at the two restaurants. The show has been a success, mostly due to the drama between the staff; the second season has just finished airing and there is already talk of a third. It’s clear that Lisa knows how to work the camera and her staff have clearly taken notice, as Vanderpump Rules was one of the hottest shows on its network.
Last year Lisa found herself in front of a live audience as well as the cameras, when she took to the stage in the sixteenth series of Dancing with the Stars with partner Gleb Savchenko. The couple were the second pair to be eliminated, after Lisa passed out before a

show due to a virus and they were not able to train properly. Aside from television and their restaurants, Lisa and Ken have proudly raised two children, 27 year old daughter, Pandora and adopted son, 21 year old Max who have both featured on the shows including Pandora’s lavish wedding to now-husband Jason in season 2 of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The couple are also avid participants to charity and support Keep Memory Alive, which was established to bring awareness to neurological diseases including Alzheimer’s, Huntingdon’s and Parkinson’s disease. They have donated generously to the
organisation in the hope of developing treatments and preventions. Lisa Vanderpump and her husband have been successful for so many years and are sure to continue this success for many years to come. Her bubbly character, her love of all things pink and her shrewd business mind have made her one of the best personalities on reality television as well as a fun character to watch.

Royal
Wedding? If sources are to be believed, Prince Harry and current girlfriend Cressida Bonas will soon be announcing their engagement and will shortly after be walking down the aisle together. Known as the ‘wild one’ of the family, Harry has notoriously and very publicly, played out his single life and although he has had serious girlfriends in the past, none apparently match up to how he feels about Cressida.
15
Daughter of 60’s model and It Girl, Lady Mary Gaye Curzon, Cressida has impeccable noble lineage which is sure to please both the Queen and Prince Charles. Her half-sister Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe is married to Sam Branson, son of Virgin entrepreneur Richard, and has been a longtime friend of William, as has half-brother Jacobi; while Cressida herself is very close to Harry’s cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Her parents, although separated, remain good friends and vacationed around the world with Cressida when she was small; and she has moved in some of Britain’s poshest circles since she started at the £30,000-a-year Stowe School in Buckingham. Her relationship with Prince Harry has remained relatively private until recently and they have been photographed together numerous times in recent weeks, adding to the speculation that the pair are preparing to announce their engagement.
16
Since Harry took a desk job in the army earlier this year, which sources claim was so that he can be nearer to ‘Cressie’, there were rumours of secret meetings with advisors for Cressida about how to deal with the media and how to behave in public – something that Kate also went through while she was dating Prince William. Harry is also said to have taken on a new team of advisors that will deal with the couple together instead of Harry on his own and the palace are said to be keen for Cressida to ditch her bohemian ways in favour of something a little more demure. Cressida is also being prepared for a meeting with Harry’s grandmother, the Queen, at Balmoral, later this year, where she will also spend time amongst other members of Harry’s family. Kate and William famously visited the castle with the Queen just a month before their engagement was announced so sources say that Cressie’s visit is sure to be a prelude to her engagement to Harry. Whatever the outcome it is clear that Harry and Cressida are in love and we wish them all the luck for the future!

Easter Easter is a great time of year, with spring in the air, a celebration of ‘fresh-starts’ and family gettogethers; it’s just as much fun as Christmas but has none of the stress or pressure. Unsurprisingly kids love Easter, and you can really have fun with your kids and involve them in the festivities. With a holiday from school, kids have a lot of free time on their hands so we’ve put together a few ways that you can amuse them this Easter. Easter egg hunt
This may add a little pressure to the day but it’s a great activity for all age groups and really gets the family working together to find the eggs. It does require a little planning but all children love to play. Start by putting treats or small eggs at each of the locations you’ve decided on around your house and garden, then give the children clues to each location either in the form of a riddle or as a picture, depending on their age. Make sure you have enough eggs for every child when the hunt is finished. 22

Decorating eggs
There are two ways to prepare your eggs for decorating: you can either hollow them out by making a small hole either end and blowing the insides through the hole or you can use hard boiled eggs, which we think is the easier way (Boil the eggs slowly to avoid cracking). Once the eggs are ready you can start to decorate them and using a sponge, especially with young children, is the best way. With older children you can use a sponge to decorate the whole egg then alternate with a brush for different effects.
Cooking with kids chocolate nests Get the kids in the kitchen and involve them in some cooking… these chocolate nests are fun and easy for them to make (with supervision), plus they taste great!
Method 1. Melt the chocolate in a small bowl placed over a pan of barely simmering water. Pour the chocolate over the shredded wheat and stir well to combine. 2. Spoon the chocolate wheat into 12 cupcake cases and press the back of a teaspoon in the centre to create a nest shape. Place 3 mini chocolate eggs on top of each nest. Chill the nests in the fridge for 2 hours until set.
Out and about with the family If you want to get out this Easter then there are many fun activities that you can do with the whole family. The Easter processions through Marbella and Malaga are definitely worth seeing – you might even get a glimpse of Antonio Banderos at the Malaga processions. Galaxia in Guadalmina have some fun Easter events with face painting, egg hunts and a special visit from the Easter bunny. There is an Easter parade and family fun day at Nagueles Park with many activities including Easter Egg hunts, Easter Bunny’s Grotto, face painting, egg and spoon race, raffle and tombola, children’s entertainers and a children’s supervised play area.

The Area
La Cala de Mijas Literally translated as The Bay of Mijas, La Cala is located between Fuengirola and Marbella and is a traditional town with a population of over 24,000 inhabitants. Known previously as “La Cala del Moral” (the Bay of Mulberries) due to all of the mulberry trees growing in the area, the name was changed in the 1970s to La Cala de Mijas in order to avoid confusion with the similarly named Cala del Moral just outside Málaga. La Cala was an agricultural and small town, with typically Andalusian white-washed walls, until the beginning of the Spanish tourist boom in the 1960s. In the sixties, the town boasted some 30 fishermen’s cottages, a couple of bars, an open-air summer cinema, a butcher’s, grocer’s, a small chapel, a school and little else, but it now has many restaurants, beach activities, a golf course, market and lots more. In history the Costa del Sol had many places of defense against enemies, which were fortified with four towers along the coast whose function was to give notice in the presence of enemy ships to the garrisons of Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Marbella. La Cala had one of these towers, which still stands today dominating the square at the beach in the middle of the town. The town today is a buzzing hub of activity and has residents of all nationalities living there – making it a desirable place to live, and with many events and fun things to do, it’s also still a hot spot for tourists.

Beyonce to shun Kim’s wedding?
Beyonce and Jay-Z are said to be unhappy about attending Kim Kardashian and Kayne West’s upcoming nuptials with the cameras also in attendance for Kim’s reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kim’s every move is captured for the show and although Kayne is not keen on being featured in many episodes, he agreed to the filming of their surprise engagement and is happy for the cameras to be at his wedding.

Nicole Lewis engaged… Rumours have gone into overdrive with the news that Lewis Hamilton and long term on/off girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger are engaged. After turning him down three times previously, sources claim the singer has finally accepted Lewis’s proposal and the couple are planning a summer wedding. Lewis is obviously thrilled but the couple are keeping things under wraps for the time being and after the wedding are planning to move in together to Lewis’s Switzerland mansion. With Lewis racing throughout the summer on the F1 circuit, it’s thought Nicole’s career might take a back-seat until after the summer but we’re sure she will be back to her best once she becomes Mrs Hamilton.
However, long term pal Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce have made certain that they keep their private life just that and have told Kayne that they will attend the wedding but will categorically not allow for them or daughter Ivy Blue to be shot on film for Kim’s show. The news is sure to be a blow for Kim and her family as Kim has made many attempts to befriend Beyonce since getting together with Kayne but is still seen as an outsider and wannabe by the Single Ladies singer.

L’Wren Scott Last month the world learned of the sad news of the death of fashion designer L’Wren Scott. The long-term girlfriend of Rolling Stone rocker Mick Jagger was found in her apartment while Jagger was about to start touring with his band in Australia. The fashion designer, who has dressed many celebrity friends, including Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michelle Obama, was said to be in financial debt and embarrassed and distraught over her failing business. Her family and those close to Jagger were deeply saddened by the news and pulled together to support the ageing rock star after the news broke.
Suri’s escape from Scientology School Suri Cruise has reportedly had a lucky escape when it comes to her schooling, as reports have surfaced about a school that Tom Cruise had intended her to attend. The exclusive Delphian School in Oregon is a private boarding school that has been described as the entry level for Scientologists, and both of Tom’s elder children attended the school. However, since controversial accounts have emerged from previous students about isolation rooms, punishment areas and an ethics room where students must learn all they need to about Scientology, Cruise is going to have a lot of resistance from ex-wife Katie Holmes about Suri’s enrolment. The school has an alternative way of raising its students as they must take responsibility for every aspect of their time at school from cooking, cleaning and learning on their own with teacher aid only when asked for. 34

The couple, who have been together for two years, have been surrounded by pregnancy rumours before but this time, the couple are said to have revealed the news to friends and family and are even said to be expecting twins! It is also suspected that the pregnancy is the true reason for them to finally confirm their engagement after months of speculation.

Lindsay Lohan is known for her wild child days and has been in the papers more for her antics while out and about with friends than for the movies that she has appeared in; and it seems her crazy capers are in no way behind her. Last month a list of A-List celebrity men appeared after being found in a New York Hotel Room that was reportedly used by the star and her friends the night before. The list, according to the source who revealed it, is said to have been made by Lohan, listing her sexual conquests throughout the years. With some of the world’s biggest names, many of whom are in long-term relationships or marriages, we’re sure many feathers have been ruffled. Names on the list include Orlando Bloom, Justin Timberlake, Colin Farrell, Joaquin Phoenix, Zac Efron, Heath Ledger, Ashton Kutcher and Ryan Phillippe, to name just a few!

The star, who is currently in Miami to unveil the plans to build a 25,000-seat soccer stadium on Miami’s waterfront for the Major League Soccer team he will own, has just finished filming in Brazil for a documentary that will air just before the World Cup kicks off. The documentary will see David take part in a two week expedition into the Amazon rainforest to show off the natural beauty of the country. The former England captain will be seen cooking, camping and fishing as he and three friends journeyed through the Amazon jungle earlier this month for the 90-minute film.
Mel B dishes on first kiss with Rob Lowe Former Spice Girl dished the dirt on her first kiss with Rob Lowe to chat show hosts of the 2Day show after the announcement was made that the singer had been cast as Lowe’s love interest on brand new comedy show The Pro, which will air later this year. Mel told the hosts that that kiss was made even more awkward by the fact that they had only met 40 minutes prior and Rob had clearly just had a coffee. Meanwhile, Rob recently tweeted to his followers that it was a ‘casting avalanche’ with Mel joining Rebecca Romijn, Rob Riggle and Andrea Savage.

Nailtrends Spring/Summer
This spring and summer brings us some fabulous new nail trends and colours, including everything for those who love to go all out and decorate it to those who prefer a more muted subtle approach.
Lego Brights (as seen at Burberry and Prabal Gurung) Think primary colours and vibrant hues to replace the usual neon nail trend – choose opaque yellow, orange and hot pink and add a splash of colour to your fingertips. TRY: Maybelline New York Colour Show
Nude Pastels (as seen at Just Cavalli and Diane Von Furstenberg) Pastel colours have grown up this season and rather than just the usual (boring) baby pink now you can enjoy soft grey, pale blue and mink purple. TRY: Essie Under Where and Nails Inc The Nude Collection 48
Dark and Moody (as seen at Marc Jacobs and John Rocha) The trend for dark nails that we have seen through the winter is continuing on throughout the spring and summer seasons. Sage Green, rich navy and glossy midnight black are the perfect counter colours to white and bright summer clothing. TRY: Mac Nocturnelle Nails or Essie After School Boy Blazer
Nail Art and Effects (as seen at Kenzo and Peter Som) Whether you like the trend or not, nail art is here to stay so think about adorning your nails with crystals; choosing a different colour for that ring finger; or floral patterns to complement the season and you will be bang on trend. TRY: Nail Inc topcoats with petal particles or L’Oreal Tweed top coat
Find nail varnish to suit your skin tone
Fair Skin You need a polish that will brighten and complement your skin so choose a buttery nude, dark vampy red or a bold orange. Olive Skin
Tanned skin suits colours that are strong and so think peachy nudes, bright red, and experimental nail art.
Dark Skin
Darker skin tones can look great with brighter colours so head towards cool greys, coral reds and vibrant fuchsia. 49
Health & Fitness What your
thermometer can tell you about your health Do you have a low body temperature? Low body temperature is anything under 98.6, which is considered the normal temperature your body should be at. A low body temperature, while becoming increasingly common is actually indicative of poor health. Why? Because a low body temperature is a sign of a low metabolism. And with a low metabolism, all of your body’s systems can’t function the way they were meant to. It really is that important. And your low body temperature should be taken as a serious sign that your body needs healing.
Low body temperature: Your first sign that the body’s metabolic rate is failing
Dr. Broda Barnes, a pioneering endocrinologist from the last century, was among the first to begin to consider the body temperature as an outward marker for the body’s most basic functioning — cellular metabolism. He noted that patients who presented with the symptoms of a low metabolic rate — lowered thyroid function especially — also generally presented with a lowered body temperature which was typically 97.8 or below. Barnes contended that the body temperature was actually by far the clearest indicator of lowered metabolism and low thyroid function — much clearer than blood work. 50
What this essentially means, is that a higher body temperature is a reflection of a higher metabolism, while a low body temperature will indicate a low metabolism. It’s critically important, because your metabolism is essentially how well your cells are able to convert fuel to energy.
So how do you know when your metabolism is low?
And just about everything in your body needs that energy to function. Everything from your digestive system to your liver and all other vital organs; to your endocrine system and all its critical hormones; to your brain and nervous system — everything relies on how well your cells produce energy.
• Frequent urination
You’ll start to see symptoms such as: • Poor digestion and food intolerances • Constipation or abnormal bowel movements • Cold hands and feet • Mood swings and instability • Dry skin and/or skin disorders such as acne and eczema • Thin, brittle hair and nails • Sleep problems and insomnia • Exhaustion and a “wired/tired” energy level cycle • PMS, infertility, low sex drive and other hormonal imbalances • Blood sugar crashes & instability • Susceptibility to illness • Weight gain, particularly around the midsection • Chronically low body temperature
Yes, metabolism means how all of your body’s systems are fuelled at the cellular level. It needs to be working properly in order for your body to be in good health. If you’ve got a low body temperature, that’s your first sign that you need to work on improving your metabolism so you can improve overall health and avoid the damage and disorders that can accompany a lowered metabolism.
How to determine if your temperature is too low You will need a good basal temperature thermometer which is designed to give you the most accurate reading. You can buy this fairly cheaply online or in a pharmacy. You will need to take your temperature first thing in the morning — before you even get out of bed to go to the loo. This is what’s referred to as your basal body temperature, and it’s the most accurate way to see where your body’s temperature stands, without any other factors such as things you’ve eaten, or your level of activity coming into play. It’s how your body is regulating its temperature while in a resting state.
What’s too low? If your thermometer is reading anything less than a 97.8, that’s a low body temperature. And as you now know, it’s indicative of a low metabolism. Many people commonly have body temperature readings that are quite low. Chances are, this has been the average for your body for a while. But that certainly doesn’t mean that it can’t, or shouldn’t, change. What is scary though, is that a low body temperature is becoming the new ‘normal.’ There was an article in the New York Times entitled, “Rethinking 98.6,” as though we really ought to consider the epidemic of low body temperature as being clinically acceptable!
I couldn’t agree more with Matt Stone’s rebuttal of the article, in stating this: “Body temperature is so significant that it is virtually impossible to develop heart disease or type 2 diabetes while maintaining a healthy, albeit abnormal body temperature of 98.6 F into old age. Whatever your health problems are, don’t give up until you’ve brought that temperature back to normal. There are countless tips and strategies to do this, and it certainly doesn’t require starvation dieting, overexcercing, and the like, which lower body temperature like nothing else can.”
Improving these metabolic factors isn’t as difficult as you might think. Here’s some simple steps to take to improve each of them.
How do you fix a low body temperature? The cause of the low body temperature is a low metabolism. And the cause of a low metabolism could be many things.
What can affect metabolism the most? • Your diet, and especially whether or not you restrict what you eat. Restrictive dieting can severely hurt metabolic function. • Your level of physical activity — both too little activity and too much activity can negatively impact metabolism. • Your sleeping habits — too little sleep, or poor quality sleep, will impact metabolism significantly. • Your level of stress. This is everything from psychological stress from a busy lifestyle or difficult life circumstances; environmental stressors such as exposure to toxins; and physiological stress from the body’s stress response running on overdrive, causing damaging stress hormones to be activated too much of the time.
Diet Eat an appropriate amount of food. Many people, even those who are overweight, do not eat enough food to support their level of activity. This only serves to make the body think its experiencing a famine — and it causes the metabolism to slow down, so you can make the most use of the limited amount of fuel your body is getting. Not good. Don’t restrict the types of foods you eat. Learn the basics of how to eat healthy, and make sure your diet is balanced. We’re talking, a good amount of all three of the big macronutrients—fat, protein, and carbohydrates. They all are very important in supporting metabolism.
51
Your cells need fuel for energy— and that includes a careful balance of glucose and electrolytes, including sodium—this is the stuff your cells’ “batteries” are made of. That means your diet needs to be balanced between sources of caloric energy, sodium, and fluids. Drinking too much water, and not eating enough sources of glucose and salt, can cause your metabolism to crash, and your body temperature to plummet.
Sleep Get into a sleeping schedule. Everyone knows that you should be getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, but if you don’t plan for it, it won’t happen. Making sleep your top priority is a great way to see big improvements in your health, in a relatively short period of time. Start a calming bedtime routine that includes turning off stimulating lights from your computer and other screens, taking time to wind down, and eating a blood-sugar levelling snack to keep things stable through the night. A piece of cheese and some fruit works great!
Activity If you’re sedentary, find ways to work in small amounts of physical activity, and continue to make progress from there. Make the activity you do enjoyable — it doesn’t have to be a “work out!” Just going for a short walk each day may be all you need to start working in a healthy level of activity to support metabolic function. Don’t overdo it. Exercise can backfire on you — if it’s too much physical stress on your body, it can hurt your metabolism.
Stress Address psychological sources of stress — emotional disturbances, unhealthy relationships, or stressful situations. If you can make a change in these for the better, do it. Adopt therapeutic lifestyle habits. Allow time every day for downtime and relaxation, and even stress management activities and techniques like meditation, yoga, aromatherapy, or calming baths. Work on managing the environmental stressors in your life — even something as simple as spending too much time indoors and not getting enough sunlight, or being exposed to things which you are allergic to, can be sources of physiological stress.
52
Don’t put up with a low body temperature as it can quite easily be rectified and the difference in the way you will start to feel will be well worth those simple lifestyle changes!

The
Laziest ways to Lose Weight Weight loss takes work — but the time you dedicate to eating right and exercising doesn’t need to feel like a second job. Even if you don’t have the time, money, or motivation to hit the gym and prepare a home-cooked meal each night (or if you’re simply a self-proclaimed couch potato), there are still plenty of low-effort (but highly effective) strategies for getting rid of pesky pounds. Savour a Nighttime Snack Your favourite at-home movie snack has some surprising slim-down benefits. Those who snack on popcorn get 250% more whole grains and about 22% more fibre than those who don’t eat the low-cal snack, according to research published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. What this means for weight loss: Fibre and whole grains keep your blood sugar from spiking (and then crashing), so you feel full longer than if you snacked on crisps or biscuits. Keep your kernels from taking an unhealthy turn by popping them in an air popper and skipping the butter and oil.
Brush Your Teeth Tap into years of Pavlovian training and brush your teeth soon after you’ve finished supper. Traditionally, brushing your teeth is a signal to stop eating, so you’re primed to resist after-hours snacking, explains Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD and author of The Flexitarian Diet. The strong minty taste may help distract your taste buds from craving another flavour and doesn’t mix well with other foods, either. 54

Hit the Snooze Button Sleeping may possibly be the laziest way to lose weight ever. During a 6-year study, Canadian researchers observed the connection between sleep patterns and obesity and found that people who slept 5 to 6 hours a night gained 4.5 pounds more than those who dozed for 7 to 8 hours nightly. While many studies suggest that sleep deprivation increases levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition determined that lack of sleep can also slow the rate at which calories are burned. Swedish researchers found that even a single night of skimping on sleep slows metabolism the next morning and reduces the number of calories burned while performing automatic tasks, like breathing and digesting food, by 5 to 20%, compared with the morning after a good night’s rest.

Lose weight and save on utility bills by keeping your house or apartment a little chilly. British researchers who discovered a direct link between rising indoor temperatures and increased obesity rates in the United States and the United Kingdom noted that cooler temps force the body to expend more energy to maintain core body temperature.
Their study, published in Obesity Reviews, explains that when the body is cold, it produces brown fat, which burns energy to create heat and differs from white fat, which is essentially a stockpile of calories. Spending more time in warmer indoor environments forces the body to let go of brown fat — it’s a use it or lose it type of situation. The researchers note that when people wearing light clothing are placed in a 60°F room, their energy expenditure increases by 100 to 200 calories per day. Over a year, those calories could add up to a weight loss of 10 to 20 pounds.

Want to achieve
BEACH-READY ABS
for summer?
Sit ups and crunches play an important part in getting great abdominal muscles, however, they only play a small part in the overall equation. Summer is on the way and everyone wants to get that sexy beach body. This image isn’t complete without a great looking flat stomach. People think that to achieve a washboard stomach they have to do thousands upon thousands of sit ups. The truth is that that is only a part of it. Having great looking abs does take time, hard training, cardio, and of course, eating healthy meals. Great abs, therefore, start in the kitchen. It is important to try and cut out fried foods, sugars, refined and processed foods, alcohol, and even dairy – which is high in fat. That means eating more natural foods such as, vegetables, fruits, protein (such as lean meats), lentils, brown rice, nuts, and drinking lots of water.
60
Another key to looking lean and getting those stomach muscles to reveal themselves is cardio, cardio, cardio! I suggest mixing up your routine and doing intervals instead of slow steady cardio. This way your body is burning more calories due to the change in pace. So you can achieve better results in a shorter period of time. So that means whatever type of cardio you choose, pick time intervals to go hard then ease off, then hard again, for at least 20-60 minutes. You will see a leaner stomach faster this way. For great abs I also recommend full body workouts.

Homestyle
Living in a warm climate means we can enjoy outdoor living for well over half the year and the relaxed Spanish lifestyle and warm balmy evenings ensure days can be spent outside with family and friends. With spring here already, the sun is getting warm enough to enjoy spending time in your garden so now is the time to get your outside space looking the best that it can.
62
Outdoor Living
Styling and furnishing your garden depends on a number of factors including the amount of space, the style of your property, and the location, to name a few. With all this in mind the first thing to think about is your furniture – colour, fabric and quantity. There are a range of great styles to choose from including the most popular – rattan, metal and wood – and you need not go for the traditional design, choose something with a different shape to give your garden a unique look Aside from the larger bits of furniture, you can also accessorize your garden with torches, lamps and lanterns to give it a stylish and chic look.

Glass Manufacturers S.L. R-DMC’S is a familyrun business with over 189 years of combined experience in the glazing, construction and steel industry. They are specialist manufacturers of glass curtains and stainless steel and use only the highest quality materials including 316-marinegrade stainless steel, so as not to cause corrosion problems.
R-DMC’s has a glass toughening plant which means that the complete glass curtain system, including the glass, is manufactured under one roof. They also manufacture UPVC and aluminium windows and doors, can manufacture roofs including sliding (electric or manual), complete steel structures, acoustic glass for bars, mirrors, table tops, sealed units, splash backs, shop fronts, shelves, walk-on glass, stairs, glass balustrade, pool surrounds, in fact they can assist you with all your glass needs. design, much time and thought has gone into the system making it one of if not the best systems available on the market today. The system is completely different to other systems that cost a similar amount; it is top-hung which means that the weight of the glass is distributed evenly and not all sitting on the bottom, rubbing metal against metal. This system runs on stainless steel wheels and bronze ball bearings, each panel of glass has four holes drilled into it so that the profile can be bolted to the glass as well as glued. This is the only system to do this – all other systems are merely glued to the profile. Other companies will claim that a bottom hung
A family-run business The RDMC glass curtains also come with an additional adjustable bar - this means that if there is any movement at all, the glass curtains can be adjusted up or down with just an allen key instead of having to take all the panels of glass out and start again. The system has undergone many tests in Germany including an opening and closing test of over 10,000 cycles and also a wind test of up to 2000 Pascal’s, all the test documentation can be viewed at their offices.
system is better, however, as glass manufacturers who make their own glass and understand the weight that is involved per square meter for 10mm glass, they know that the best way for a system to function correctly is to hang the glass so as not to impose such weight and strain onto the system below, causing scraping and juddering over a period of time and regular use.

RDMC’s also recommend that anybody looking to install glass curtains or stainless steel visit the factory and see where they are being manufactured.

Food & Drink
R
ecently opened, Howies is a brand new, live entertainment restaurant and speakeasy on the frontline beach in La Cala de Mijas. Formally known as The Mijas Playa, the restaurant has been refurbished and updated to give it a modern feel with sharp lines and a monochrome look. While the restaurant serves sumptuous international cuisine every evening and on Sunday lunch times, it is really the musicians and bands that provide fantastic live entertainment every night that ensures the trendy venue is a great place to be.
Live Music Restaurant Cocktails Bar & Lounge The venue itself is split into many areas where guests can relax and take in the chilled atmosphere and surroundings. Outside is a large cocktail terrace that boasts great views of the beach and enjoys sun all day long; while inside guests can enjoy a drink at the bar before retreating to their table that is close enough to the stage to enjoy the music; or if you are just in the mood for fantastic entertainment and a few drinks, then head to their speakeasy, lounge area where you can sit on the sofas while savouring the atmosphere and the great views. The music at Howies is overseen by owner Howard Cander, who has a musical history and wanted to create a venue where guests could really experience a great sound. Before opening he installed a Pro Tools recording system and studio decks which provide a great sound, similar to that of a concert, and they will soon be streaming live from the venue. For those, however, who want to enjoy an evening of fine dining then some dishes that will tempt the taste buds include starters of Thai langoustine prawn soup with coriander, ginger, carrots, lime, chilli and lemon grass, carpaccio of beef served with fresh mustard leaf salad and parmesan shavings, and mille feuille of goose foie gras with granny smith apples topped 68
with caramelized brie cheese. Main course dishes are equally as good and include rack of lamb baked with aromatic herbs, served with a ruby port wine sauce, dauphinoise potatoes and fresh vegetables, slow roast Iberian belly of pork in a rioja red wine gravy and apple sauce served with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, and sole, filleted at the table, served with a traditional French meuniere sauce, buttered new potatoes and fresh vegetables. Howies also have a fantastic Sunday lunch menu and a mid-week menu for just ₏20 for two courses – celiac and vegetarian options are also available. They also have a sports bar and piano lounge opening above the restaurant later this year which boasts magnificent views of the coastline and the Mediterranean.

Recipes
Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan fish & tomato curry Ingredients
(Serves 4)
• 3 tomatoes, roughly chopped • 3 garlic cloves, chopped • 3 long green chillies, deseeded, chopped • 4cm piece ginger, peeled, chopped • 1 teaspoon ground cumin • 1 teaspoon ground coriander • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric • 750g boneless thick white fish fillets, cut into 6cm pieces • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil • 1 large brown onion, chopped • 2 cups Coconut Cream • 20 fresh curry leaves • 1 tablespoon tamarind concentrate* • Steamed basmati rice, lime wedges and thinly sliced red chillies, to serve
Method 1. Process tomatoes, garlic, chillies, ginger, cumin, coriander and 1 teaspoon turmeric until just combined.
2. Pat fish dry with paper towel. Combine remaining 1 teaspoon turmeric and a pinch of salt. Sprinkle over both sides of fish.
3. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large frying pan over high heat until hot. Add fish. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until sealed and golden. Transfer to a plate. Add remaining oil to pan. Reduce heat to medium-high. Add onion. Cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add pureed tomato mixture. Cook for 10 minutes or until oil begins to separate from mixture. Reduce heat to medium. Stir in coconut cream and curry leaves. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low. Partially cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes or until mixture thickens slightly.
4. Return fish to pan. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 4 to 5 minutes or until fish is cooked through. Stir in tamarind concentrate. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 1 minute. Serve with rice, lime wedges and chilli.
* The tamarind tree’s fruit is a primary ‘sour’
flavouring. Tamarind pods are available, however tamarind paste (brown) and concentrate (black) are more convenient. Lime juice with brown sugar is a suitable alternative.

Automobili Lamborghini is taking a major step into the future: with the newly developed Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, the successor to the highly successful Gallardo, the Italian super sports car manufacturer is redefining the benchmark in the segment. With its pure and absolute design, breathtaking dynamics and excellent quality, the Huracán delivers an unparalleled sports car experience. It unites mighty performance with a character perfectly suited to everyday use.
Lamborghini is taking its purist, unmistakable design language to a whole new evolutionary level. The design is bold and edgy, with beautifully sculptural forms. The starting point of the design process was the Huracán’s silhouette. The objective was to define the car with a single line stretching from the front end over the passenger cell to the rear. The side windows take on a hexagonal form that looks like a gem set into the profile of the Huracán. At night, too, it is utterly unmistakable: All lights, including the main headlamps, beam in LED technology - an absolute first in the super sports car segment.
75
The Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 celebrated its show premiere at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, with customer delivery scheduled to start in spring 2014. The Huracán is priced at 169,500.00 Euro, excluding taxes.
An innovative cockpit dominates the interior. The 12.3-inch TFT display can be configured in a number of different modes and provides the driver with all key information in a virtual format. The slender lines of the instrument mounts and the centre tunnel are indicative of the lightness of the interior design. Fine materials distinguish the interior, which can be extensively individualized, while the extremely detailed craftsmanship delivers a highly refined sense of quality. The newly conceived hybrid chassis of the Huracán LP 610-4 is a technical work of art that unites carbon-fibre and aluminium components. The ultralight chassis forms the basis for the vehicle’s low dry weight of 1,422 kilograms; with its excellent stiffness, it guarantees the handling precision of a racing car. The new V10 engine in the Huracán generates its phenomenal propulsion from a displacement of 5.2 litres. It produces a power output of 448 kW / 610 hp at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 560 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The new “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” combines direct and indirect injection - achieving an increase in 76
power and torque compared with the Gallardo and a decrease in fuel consumption and emissions. With its power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33 kilograms per hp, the Lamborghini Huracán achieves absolutely breathtaking performance. The top speed of more than 325 km/h and the acceleration figures - zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, zero to 200 km/h in 9.9 seconds offer an indication of its dynamics. Thanks in part to the Stop & Start technology, ECE average fuel consumption has dropped to 12.5 litres per 100 km. The power generated by the ten-cylinder is delivered to the road via the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission “Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF) and an all-wheel drive that also features a new hydraulic multi-plate clutch. Three different driving modes, spanning from road to race track, can be selected using a drive select switch in the steering wheel. The system is called ANIMA (Italian for Soul) - “Adaptive Network Intelligent Management”, and impacts the engine, the transmission, the all-wheel drive and the ESC handling system as well as other dynamic systems.

Sport – Football
The Lifestyles of the
Premier Rich A footballer’s career can be fairly short (unless you’re Ryan Giggs of course) and as football and the English Premiership is a massive entertainment industry, players nowadays are on wages that few would believe 20 years ago. With the advent of television and mass advertising, players can be literally be worth their weight in gold and then some. When Real Madrid bought David Beckham some ten years ago and paid him 40 million over 4 years, many thought that the world had gone mad. But keep in mind that Real made 600 million from Beckham’s shirt sales alone, then as a business measure signing Beckham was very astute.
In the modern age, the Premiership is the most watched league with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all global brand names. So there’s big money in not just winning titles but also in the image rights. And sometimes image can make more money than the actual playing of football itself.
When Beckham signed for Real Madrid he made sure he got a percentage of the image rights and for a couple of hours, it looked like there was an impasse on the deal. Finally Beckham got his way and with Real bringing in something like 600 million then our David probably brought in at least a 100. Not bad for a kid from London.
DAVID BECKHAM
CHRISTIANO RONALDO
So since that deal, Christiano Ronaldo et al have all pushed for these type of deals thus making them the prime asset at a club in far more than the football way.
The top 10 players in England are mainly from the 3 richest clubs in the land; Manchester United rich through football and Chelsea and Manchester City rich through oil billionaires taking over their club. Through these riches these teams can attract the best talent in the world and they eagerly sign up to achieve untold wealth.
84
Coming it at number 10 is SERGIO AGUERO of Manchester City. City paid 38 million nearly 3 years ago and with his massive salary, a goalscoring bonus and a sponsorship deal with Puma, his wealth is believed to be around 24 million.
10
RYAN GIGGS has had a superb career and is rightly regarded as a Manchester United legend, he sits at number 7 of the most rich list. Currently on 75k a week for sitting on the bench watching the current debacle in front of him, it’s believed that this will be his final year which will no doubt be cushioned by the amassing of some 27 million. ‘Only’ 27 million in all those years? Wow those gagging orders must cost a bit.
7 At 9 comes another City player in the considerable shape of YAYA TOURE, who earns 250 k a week is also on a sponsorship deal with Puma, his wealth is slightly more than Aguero at 25 million.
9
Incredibly FERNANDO TORRES makes number 8 in this league. Considering he’s a pale shadow of the goal-scoring god that was at Liverpool, then this is even more surprising. He’ll be off in the summer, but despite his aging years and lack of pace now, he’ll probably still wander into a multimillion contract. He cost Chelsea 50 million and they’ll be lucky to get 10 for him now. His worth is 26 million.
8
At number 6 is a true anomaly, a player that isn’t United, City or Chelsea. Captain of Liverpool and England, STEVEN GERRARD is a one-club player and despite a few ditherings, he’s loyal. With no huge transfer fee percentages, his wealth is even more remarkable, but Gerrard is an astute businessman and has protected his money wisely. Not getting divorced always helps and a deal with Lucaozade helps pay the bills. Personal wealth of 29 million.
6
pitch activities) he’s amassed close to 29 million.
5
Terry’s teammate, FRANK LAMPARD comes in at number 4 and as he’s been in Chelsea for over a decade and is now the top all time scorer (I could make a Terry joke here but won’t) then Lampard through earnings and sponsorship has know got a cool 31 million in the bank.
4
At 3 is RIO FERDINAND, he of ‘I dodged the drug test cos I was snorting cocaine’ fame. First at Leeds then a lucrative signing on fee with Manchester United, and through clever brand deals Rio went on to amass 37 million in his time. Currently at Manchester United but not playing as he’s too busy tweeting to his adoring fans.
3 No mug at number 5 is JOHN TERRY. Probably still the best centre back who’s English, he’s had a long and controversial career. It’s been a high earning career though and through his investment in housing (and nothing to do with him needing them for his off the 85
2
In at number 2 is SAMUEL ETO’O, of Chelsea, he’s only a recent arrival to these shores and the mind boggle what his earnings would have been if he’d been at Chelsea all of his career, but through lucrative signing on fees with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and a to be frank obscene 16.5 million when he signed for Anzhi Makhachkala, he’s now worth some 39 million.
NUMBER
1
Last but not least, at number 1 is our Wayne. England’s brightest player (in a football sense at least) with his 250 k wages at United, sponsorship deals with Nike and (ghostwritten?) book deals with Harper Collins, WAYNE ROONEY has somehow earned 45 million quid.
Eden Hazard
Eden is technically gifted and very fast. He will be a major star in “the future. I would take him to Real Madrid with my eyes closed. ” - Zinedine Zidane
Hazard’s parents are both exfootball players and so the sport runs in the family. He began at a local club in Belgium, Royal Stade Brainois, and then signed for French club, Lille. At the age of 16, he made his professional debut and by the age of 19 had been part of Lille’s French League and cup double.
It’s crunch time for the premiership as it nears the end of the season and one player in particular can make all the difference to how the title is claimed, his name is Eden Hazard and he’s the fulcrum of everything Chelsea. With other teams around them, Chelsea have managed to get into the title running through having an incredible midfield and scoring goals from there. Chelsea need to do this because let’s face it their strikers aren’t up to the job. While Manchester City have Negredo and Aguero and Liverpool have Suarez and Sturridge; the Chelsea strikers have hardly scored any goals at all. Luckily Eden Hazard has managed to take up the strain by being playmaker and scorer. Hazard plays for the Belgian national team and can play as an attacking midfielder and a winger, he is known for his speed and passing technique and has been described as a “fearless, explosive 86
In June 2012, he signed for Chelsea. The fee was reported to be priced at £32million.
“ attacking midfielder who can change the game with a turn of pace or a dribble” and “possibly the outstanding talent in Europe right now.”
I’ve said to him he has got absolutely everything. He’s only 22, he has the world at his feet and with the way he’s playing and the ability he has on the ball, he is scaring the life out of people.
”
- Frank Lampard.
So there you have it, with the advent of the English Premiership, top players have more wealth than some Championship teams and as we’ve seen football is only a part of the money that can be earned. If a player is conscious of this then they can make some serious money and now I finally I know how I’ll get by in pension age, ‘son, where’s that football?’
For the FIFA World footballer of the year, the Ballon d’Or, Hazard was named as part of the 23 player list. It just shows how far Hazard has come when there is constant comparison with the 2 best players in the world – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“
Everyone talks about Messi and Ronaldo but in Hazard, Chelsea has both those players in one.
”
- Ex-Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.
His scoring is probably the only thing that lets him down. Since 2011-12, Hazard has scored 42 goals in 113 games, that lags considerably behind Cristiano Ronaldo who has scored 133 in 120 games and Messi with 135 goals in 110. He’s only 22 though, and if he manages to score more then he can quickly become a legend. This season Hazard is showing his class on the international stage as well. His first games for Belgium were under whelming (much like Ronaldo and Messi’s international careers) but he’s now showing his skills, and with the World Cup coming up, then it’s excellent timing. Now that Hazard wears his favourite number 10 shirt, he’s giving his best performances for Belgium. The whole world lays at the feet of Eden Hazard, and at the age of 22 he can only get better and better. If he maintains his form then he can certainly steer Chelsea to a League title and make Belgium a very difficult team to play against in the World Cup. It should be an interesting 3 months.
“
He doesn’t feel any pressure but there’s no doubt that his current form means that it’s mounting before the World Cup, but he likes to be challenged. He admits that he takes it too easy when everything is going well, so having Mourinho as a coach is a godsend for him. He has now realized that he can be a world-class player, and that’s the big difference this season. We just hope the Belgium team can profit from what he’s learned at Chelsea.

THE BIG GAMES
Saturday 5th April
MAN CITY v SOUTHAMPTON
James Milner
This game features two attractive teams who play good football. Man city has far more funds available and over the season this has proved essential as both teams started well but while City maintained there title tilt, Southampton fell off the pace in November. City have been pretty imperious at home and along with Chelsea must be favourites for the title in which I think they’ll win through here. 2-0 to City.
CARDIFF v CRYSTAL PALACE At Xmas both teams were in the relegation zone and so they sacked their manager to try and improve their fortunes. Palace sought out a wily old experienced manager in the guise of Tony Pulis and are now looking far safer than Cardiff who gambled on an unproven manager from the Norwegian league. Of the two teams Cardiff look in far more peril to get relegated while Palace look pretty solid. 0-1 to Palace.
NEWCASTLE v MANCHESTER UTD In times past this would be a good game for footballing reasons. This season however neither team can boast flowing football with dodgy defences and weak midfields being the mainstays of both teams. Newcastle have a much better record at home however and so will push United all the way, so I’ll go for a 1-1 draw here.
hes Mark Hug
CHELSEA v STOKE CITY
88
Ex-Chelsea boy Mark Hughes team visits Stamford Bridge and will want to do well. Chelsea at home though are a tough nut to crack and I can’t see Stoke getting a win here, they’ll prove difficult though and this game might go to a draw if Chelsea are starting to wobble. 1-0 to Stoke though.
FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS
ASTON VILLA v FULHAM Villa should win through here while Fulham must be close to being doomed. If they lose this game then I can’t see any safety. 1- 0 to Villa.
HULL CITY v SWANSEA Swansea are still dropping like a stone with or without Michael Laudrup and his sacking seems foolish now, considering what he had achieved for Swansea in his time there. Hull are a solid enough team and they’ll fight well and win in this battler. 1-0 to Hull.
NORWICH v WEST BROM Both teams could quite easily be relegated, with Norwich sticking by their manager and West Brom crazily sacking a decent one. West Brom have shown no sign of improvement and Norwich win every now and then to keep their heads above water. A real 6 pointer and one that should provide plenty of entertainment. Norwich to win 1-0.
Sunday 6th April
EVERTON v ARSENAL A cracking game and a very tough game for Arsenal. There’s rumour that Everton’s Martinez may take over from Wenger in a few years time and so this should be an interesting dress rehearsal. Everton will always be tough at home and so I can see a well fought draw here 2-2.
Roberto Martine`
THE PREMIERSHIP
WEST HAM v LIVERPOOL A tough game for Liverpool and they’ll have to match the physicality of the Hammers here. Nolan and Carroll will put the odd boot in and provide some good skill so if Liverpool can stifle those two then they can leave the rest to Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge. 0-1 to Liverpool.
O O RD N E LI R N E
Monday 7th April
TOTTENHAM v SUNDERLAND Spurs should win this game fairly comfortably now that they’re effectively out of the Champions League running. Sunderland looked doomed and if they are to escape relegation then games like this have to be won. 2-0 to Spurs.
Saturday 12th April
CRYSTAL PALACE v ASTON VILLA Both teams should just about escape relegation but a loss here could drag them back into the mire. So I think both teams will be happy with a point and it’ll end 1-1.
SOUTHAMPTON v CARDIFF Luke Shaw
Southampton should win this game at a canter and keep their slight hopes of Europa League qualification alive. Southampton have got some good English talent and this might be one of the last times these players play together. The summer beckons and there will definitely be bids for players like Shaw, Lallana and Wanyama. Southampton to win this game 2-0.
SUNDERLAND v EVERTON Sunderland might get a win here but I doubt it as Everton come a visiting. Everton still have everything to play for and will want a Europa League place and so Sunderland might gain a draw. 1-1.
The incredible natural male enhancement tablets SPECIAL OFFERS
FULLHAM v NORWICH A true 6 pointer with a win for Norwich damning Fulham to the drop. This has all the hallmarks of a solid bore draw 0-0.
STOKE CITY v NEWCASTLE Stoke manager Mark Hughes will want to put one over his old club Newcastle and I can see them doing so today. Newcastle have been pretty pathetic on the road and while safe they must be looking forward to the end of the season and the purchase of a huge amount of new players. Ha only joking! Ashley will never do that. Stoke 1-0 to win.

WEST BROM v TOTTENHAM
CARDIFF v STOKE CITY
West Brom might cause a shock here as Spurs have been very up and down this season. Tim Sherwood has been forthright in his criticism of his own players which Tim Sherwood can be effective if you are a seasoned manager who is deeply respected and feared. Tim isn’t though and has won effectively nowt. I do like his passion though and it’s always interesting to hear what he’s going to say. I can’t see him being at Spurs next season as they have delusions that they are a world class team but I could see Sherwood at something like Fulham or the like to continue to learn his trade. 1-0 to West Brom.
Cardiff can do themselves a huge favour if they can win here. Stoke will want to be party poopers and spoil the fun. I can see a draw here though with a 1-1 scoreline.
Sunday 13th April
Villa have lifted themselves in the last few months to move away from the relegation fight and will prove hard to beat here for Southampton. Expect much defensive work from Villa and them relying on a counter attack. Can see this game being a draw 1-1.
Brendan Rodgers
Manuel Pellegrini
LIVERPOOL v MANCHESTER CITY
A top game and one of the games of the season. If Liverpool lose then that might be it for their title challenge and vice versa for Manchester City. City were very lucky with ref decisions in the game at the Emirates and so Liverpool will want revenge. They might just sneak it too. 1-0 to Liverpool.
SWANSEA v CHELSEA Yet another tough game for Swansea and with Chelsea in title hungry mood, I can’t see much less than a win for Chelsea. This will be a closer game than many see though but I still see Chelsea edging it. 0-1 to Chelsea.
Saturday 19th April
TOTTENHAM v FULHAM A fairly simple task for Spurs or so you’d think. But with Spurs this season you never know, Fulham will be desperate to avoid the drop and that extra energy might at least make this London derby interesting. Can’t see it though 1- 0 to Spurs. 90
WEST HAM v CRYSTAL PALACE A cracking local derby with 2 teams who should survive relegation. This should be a close game and I think West Ham have the class to edge it. 1-0 to West Ham.
ASTON VILLA v SOUTHAMPTON
NEWCASLTLE v SWANSEA Newcastle are always good at home as they at least lift themselves for their home fans. Newcastle should scrape this 1-0.
HULL CITY v ARSENAL This could be tricky for Arsenal as Hull have beaten Liverpool here and given Manchester City a run for their money. Hull are quickly becoming Stoke mark II (aka awkward to play against) and I expect a hard fought win here for Arsenal. 0-1. Steve Bruce
91
Sunday 20th April
NORWICH v LIVERPOOL Norwich will have to attack as this game is at home and they simply need 3 points. If Liverpool soak in the pressure and Daniel Sturridge strike on the counter then they can win handsomely here and Norwich had better watch its goal differentials as they might be all important at the end of the season. 0-4 to Liverpool.
EVERTON v MANCHESTER UTD The return of David Moyes to his old hunting ground. After a small minority of Toffee fans mocked Moyes at Old Trafford in October, Moyes did little to keep his good name David Moyes intact when he made his bitter response. Expect more mocking here at Goodison and this result is an effective 6 pointer for the possibility of ending up in either 6th or 7th. I can see a draw 1-1.
Tough game for Spurs and I can see Stoke having enough to win through here and put Spurs in peril of not even getting a Europe League place. 1-0 to Stoke.
WEST BROM v WEST HAM This has a draw written all over it. Whether that’s enough to safe West Brom is anybody’s guess, but a point will help. 1-1.
FULHAM v HULL CITY Fulham are probably doomed by now but if not they might prove difficult opponents for Hull. 1-0 to Fulham.
SWANSEA v ASTON VILLA This is a must win for Swansea and with Villa boosting their recent fortunes then it will be a tough ask for the Swans. I think they’ll just about do it though with a 1-0 win.
MANCHESTER UTD v NORWICH
Chelsea might relegate Sunderland today because I can’t see Sunderland getting any points here at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have got too much to play for and too much class and experience to allow a slip up. 2-0 to Chelsea.
On paper this is an obvious Manchester United win, but with their form this season who knows? I’ll still have to go for the United win though, but it will close as Norwich can play with flair and will be fighting relegation. 2-0 to United.
Monday 21st April
Sunday 27th April
CHELSEA v SUNDERLAND
MANCHESTER CITY v WEST BROM With West Brom in deep trouble coming to the Etihad and facing in form Manchester City is probably the last place you want to go. It will be a miracle of major proportions if this result is anything but a comfortable City win. 2-0.
Saturday 26th April
SOUTHAMPTON v EVERTON Southampton will want to show their fans that they have still much to offer and I can see this game being a close fought draw with plenty of goals. 2 -2 . 92
STOKE CITY v TOTTENHAM
Chris Houghton
SUNDERLAND v CARDIFF 2 teams probably doomed for relegation but if one wins here at least they can effectively put the other out of the fight completely. Sunderland to win 1-0.
CRYSTAL PALACE v MAN CITY Palace will provide stiff opposition for City, but I think the City players have enough class to win through, 0-1 to Manchester City.

LIVERPOOL v CHELSEA Brendan Rodgers
Jose Mourinho
Another game of the season and this could prove pivotal for either side. If Liverpool still have a chance to win the title then Mourinho will do all of the mind games and games-manship that he has in his vast catalogue of bullsh*t. If Rodgers falls for it then he might blow the game and the chance of the title. If he remains calm and plays to his strength then Liverpool could go all the way. Liverpool to win 1-0.

ARSENAL v NEWCASTLE Newcastle has nothing to play for apart from pride and Arsenal should still have a chance of the title. As the game is at the Emirates I think Arsenal will play well and put Newcastle to the sword. 3-0 to Arsenal.

The FA Cup Saturday 12th April Wigan v Arsenal
Wigan are a cup team and who would bet against them after they’ve beaten Manchester city in the FA Cup Final last year and the quarter finals this? Will their cup run come to an end or will they go on and win it for a second time. If they beat Arsenal I would certainly make them favourites. Arsenal however have not won anything for 8 years or so and they’ll desperately want to win a trophy if the title race pulls away from them. I think Arsenal has the class to win this tie and they’ll go on to win the cup. 0-2 to Arsenal.
Sunday 13th April Hull City v Sheffield United
Hull should win this game at a canter despite how well Sheffield United have done coming this far. 1-0 to Hull. 94

The first-leg games will be played on 1st and 2nd April, with the second-leg clashes scheduled for 8th and 9th April.
Diego Costa
Lionel Messi
An all Spanish tie and one which could go either way, both have been in good form this year and they are currently vying for the title with Real Madrid. Messi is coming back into form just at the right time and I think this will make all the difference over an impressive Atletico Madrid side. Barcelona to go through, just.
Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund
Real Madrid are a better side than they were last season with new manager Ancelotti, he’s quiet while Mourinho was the complete opposite, and his calm seem to have improved their football. Dortmund aren’t as good this season as they were last but they can no doubt spring a surprise here. 2 close games that should go down to the wire with Real Madrid reaching the semi-finals.

Paris St Germain v Chelsea
Expect lots of mind games from Mourinho here with them saying that PSG are favourites and have a better team and how they’ve hardly spent any money. Experience may be key here with Terry and Cahill keeping Zlatan Ibrahimovic quiet, while dominating midfield and relying on Eto’o to nick the odd goal. I don’t expect to many goals here and it will be close but with the return leg back at Chelsea I think they may just sneak it.
Manchester United v Bayern Munich
The nightmare draw for United and in which will keep David Moyes awake at night for the next 2 weeks. United only just got through the last round because they were playing a poor championship level side in Olympiakos who handed United the game. Bayern will not do the same, and will want to prove a point and gain some revenge after the 1999 Champions League final. Bayern to win at a canter over the 2 legs by at least David 3 goals. Moyes Pep Guardiola

The Grand National
The Grand National Aintree Racecourse Grand National Day: Saturday 5th April
• The National is held annually at Aintree racecourse in Liverpool. Held since 1839, it a handicap steeplechase with 30 fences over 2 circuits of the track. • The National has the highest prize money in Europe and had a prize fund of £975,000 in 2013. • The course is challenging, as it features much larger fences than those found on conventional National Hunt tracks. Many of these fences, like The Chair, Canal Turn and Becher’s Brook are household names. With the extreme distance of the race, the Grand National has been called ‘the ultimate test of horse and rider’. • An estimated 600 million viewers watch the Grand National worldwide and the 2014 should be the best ever. • In 2014, there is one outstanding favourite with Tea for three.

Tea for three is the hot favourite and came 3rd in the 2013 Grand National. Aged 10 it’s likely that he’ll be in his prime and so be a dangerous contender for the National.
This 10-year-old horse has fallen twice at the National and so maybe 3rd time lucky. He can compete with any horse and has completed the Becher’s Chase so he knows how to jump.
Not the greatest horse but has had a decent preseason and has a good weight, he could get round the course.
Triolo D’Alene 20/1
Long Run 16/1
He won the 2011 Gold Cup and is an exciting prospect. Aged 9 he has every chance to do well this year.
Tea for three
This horse is a Welsh Grand National winner who can certainly run the distance but has never been to Aintree. He’s done well at Cheltenham though and so he could be a good outside bet.
On his own
At the age of 7, he’s a little young to challenge but he won the Hennessy Gold Cup and so he’s definitely one for the future.

Golf
Last month Sala Group’s Super League returned with its second competition. The day commenced at La Cañada Golf Course before the players returned to La Sala in Puerto Banus for the all-important prize giving. What a close competition, with three teams tied at the top. After the first countback, two were still tied and could only be separated by the score on the 9th. “That’s Not a Gimme” took the trophy home. Bill Daniel from ITAPU 1 triumphed in the individual competition and put together a fantastic round. Bill used all his course knowledge, being a member, but still had to make the puts!
Two leagues in one, Sala Super League is unique in that it offers competitors the opportunity to play against their teammates in the individual league and work together for the ultimate team prize – a three-day golfing trip to Portugal. Furthermore, the individual winner, and a friend, will also be heading to Portugal. The year-long exclusive tournament has been kindly sponsored by Stein Personal and Corporate Planners, Ecocarnivest, Questates, Currencies Direct and Porsche Sportwagen Marbella and has been created with the objective to not only create a fantastic competition, but to support local charity, DEBRA.
Professional golfer, Stian Hanson from Norway who is currently on the Alpstour, kindly donated his time to raise funds for DEBRA by creating a ‘Beat the Pro’. To sign up for the next event at Alferini on April 12th please contact Lindsey Medina: Lindsey@salagroupholdings.com
