Gisele Bündchen has become the world’s most highly paid supermodel. The former Victoria’s Secret ‘Angel’ is the world’s first billionaire supermodel. Forbes says the 31-year-old Brazilian beauty has earned roughly $250 million over the last decade.

Victoria’s Secret is now one of the biggest selling lingerie brands in the world but when it first began in 1977, the original owners had no idea that it would become such an iconic brand. Founded by Roy Raymond and his wife who saw an opening for a lingerie brand that men could buy for their wives without being embarrassed when entering the store, Victoria’s Secret was born to give women the lingerie they wanted from the men they loved. Raymond and his wife studied the market for years and borrowed just $80,000 to launch the product and the company’s first store in Palo Alto, California.
In its first three years, Victoria’s Secret made $500,000 and Raymond was able to open four more store locations. Business was booming and with both men and women entering the stores to buy the innovative new designs of women’s lingerie, Raymond and his wife knew they were onto a good thing.
By 1980, the company launched their first mail order catalogue which was received with much enthusiasm and just two years later the catalogues accounted for 55% of the $7 million annual turn-over. At just $3 a catalogue, it meant that many sales were being made and the business was going from strength to strength. However after many years focusing on the male consumers, who were buying items for their wives and girlfriends, the company started to become too limited and Raymond was even headed towards bankruptcy. When he was
approached by Limited Stores Inc in 1982 with an offer of $4 million, Raymond was desperate to sell. He thought the company had gone as far as he could take it but could not have predicted how it could have grown from those early years. Limited Stores Inc bought a company that had six stores and a 42-page catalogue with an annual gross of $6 million but the new owner Leslie Wexner had other ideas about how he wanted to take the company forward. Wexner decided that to take the company to the next level 9
10
he should abandon Raymond’s original idea of appealing to men buying underwear for their wives and instead he would focus on the females themselves. He wanted to transform the business from ‘burlesque to main stream’ and with new colours, styles, textures, patterns and glamour, he was able to appeal to a wider target audience and now, women were taking the lead and buying sexy, glamorous underwear for themselves. In the first five years since the takeover, Victoria’s Secret went from a four-store boutique business to a 346 store retailer and they became the only national chain of lingerie stores. However, it wasn’t just the stores that were doing well, Wexner also kept the catalogue going strong and in 1987 it was reported that it was among the best-selling catalogues in retail. Such was the demand from women to own something from the fashionable, trendy brand that in 1990 the company released their own line of fragrances. Also in 1990, when it was reported that many other fashion and clothing companies were struggling and in a mini recession, Victoria’s Secret managed to sell more than any other retail store in the world. With other companies now cashing in on what was becoming a booming lingerie industry and with the release of their competitor, the WonderBra, in 1994, Victoria’s Secret upped their game and
launched their first television campaign for the company’s Miracle Bra. The following year, in 1995, Victoria’s Secret held their first fashion show and promoted it as a ‘self-assured strutting for women and a voyeuristic pleasure for men, with lingerie as the focus’. The lavish event has continued ever since and is now televised on a primetime American channel each year, with millions of people tuning in to watch. Since its inception, the show has drawn celebrities, performers and household names who vie for a place on the runway alongside the models, or on the front row. As the fashion show grew each year so did its running budget - the first year producers of the show spent $120,000 whereas in 2011 the budget was a whopping $12 million. Also as the hype around Victoria’s Secret became bigger, so did the desire to be one of the models walking the runway. The Victoria’s Secret Angels, as they are now known, are an envied elite group of top models, who are each also spokeswomen for the brand. The company lists 10 supermodels on its website each year and they officially release an Angel from duty before the list goes up, replacing her with a new face. Over the years, many of the most well-known and successful supermodels have become Angels, these include Tyra Banks, Helena
11
Christensen, Heidi Klum, Claudia Schiffer, Jessica Stam, Miranda Kerr, Cara Delevingne, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosia, Karolina Kurkova, Rosie HuntingtonWhiteley and the world’s most highly paid supermodel Gisele Bündchen.
Tyra Banks
Over the years Victoria’s Secret has grown from a small niche business into a worldwide retail brand and women everywhere want to not only wear the lingerie, but be like the models fronting the campaigns. Such is the demand that the company now has over 1050 stores in the United States, 23 stores in Canada, five stores in the United Kingdom plus a boutique at Heathrow Airport, and many more 12

Aside from their lingerie, Victoria’s Secret have launched a range of other products including a beauty range, fragrances, a swimwear line, music cds and a new younger lingerie line for 15-22 year old girls called Pink. This line of lingerie includes underwear, sleepwear, loungewear, accessories and beauty products and the aim from the company was to appeal to a younger audience who would buy from Victoria’s Secret Pink range until the time came when they wanted sexier, more adult lingerie and they would then buy from the older ranges.
Claudia Schiffer
The Angels have such a high status as models for the company, that they have become in high demand from other companies and many are now on the top 10 highest paid models in the world. Gisele takes the title and if reports are to be believed she is on her way to becoming the world’s first billionaire supermodel – beside Victoria’s Secret she fronted brands including Chanel, H&M and David Yurman last year and the Brazilian beauty made a cool $32 million. Second, third and fourth spots are taken by Orlando Bloom’s wife Miranda Kerr, Adriana Lima, and Kate Moss who is the highest placed non-Angel in the list.

franchise stores around the world including Poland, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Kuwait, and the Dominican Republic. The catalogue is also in huge demand still and in recent years the company has hired writers from popular magazines to give the catalogue a more magazine feel to the text and styling.

Alessandra Ambrosia
It’s clear the company has grown and gone from strength to strength since its inception in 1977, and it is now one of the best-selling and fastest growing retail brands in the world. The demand is such that Victoria’s Secret is sure to be selling beautiful lingerie for years to come.

X Factor Judges let their hair down The X Factor contestants have been told that they can’t go OTT when they go out partying, but sounds like the judges and presenters should have been given the same warning. At Nicole Scherzinger’s judges’ houses in Antigua the former Pussycat Doll partied hard with Dermot O’leary and Caroline Flack, in fact the X Factor group were so raucous that staff and other guests in the same resort had to tell them to keep it down. There are reports that Nicole started drinking rum cocktails on the beach at 5pm before she moved to a roof top bar with the rest of the X Factor gang, they then spent the night drinking and singing. Apparently Nicole, Dermot and Caroline were knocking back rum cocktails, laughing, joking and singing I’ll Be There For You – the theme tune from TV series Friends. By the time they left at about midnight theirs was a 20-strong group who kept being asked to keep the noise down by hotel staff. There was a band playing Caribbean music in the restaurant but the X Factor group were singing so loudly other diners couldn’t hear what the band was playing. Oh dear!

Tamara Ecclestone happier than ever Tamara Ecclestone and her husband Jay Rutland are expecting their first child together. The 29-year-old heiress has announced that she is 14-weeks pregnant, just over three months after her £12 million wedding to her former stockbroker hubby. Tamara and Jay only met nine months ago, but after a whirlwind romance they tied the knot during a ceremony in Cap Ferrat on the French Rivera. The Formula One heiress is the daughter of billionaire tycoon Bernie Ecclestone, and after spending out a fortune on the wedding we can’t wait to see how ridiculously extravagant the baby shower will be.

‘I just feel so lucky. I never imagined this all happening so quickly. It’s crazy how life works in such mysterious ways. ‘Jay loves children and I’m really excited for the next phase of our relationship.’
The actress will leave Coronation Street next summer and she wants to have something to keep her busy between acting jobs.
“
‘I’m really excited but very nervous. I’ve saved some money for the quiet times,’ says Michelle, 26. ‘All actors have quiet times and I can’t bear sitting around, so I’d like to invest in a business which will give me something to focus on when I’m not working. It’ll probably be something within the fashion, beauty or health industry.’ Michelle, who recently got engaged to boyfriend Mark Wright, would particularly like to use her knowledge of fashion for her venture as she thinks she’s learnt a lot recently.
H
‘Over the last 18 months I’ve found my sense of style. I never dress for others and, yes, I’ve had a few fashion failures. Like most women, I’ve got stuff in my wardrobe with the price tag and think, “Why did I buy that?”’

Is Divorce on the Cards for Khloe and Lamar?
Miley and Liam call it a day! Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are officially over and their engagement is off, however, the singer is keeping the ring. It looks like the ‘Paranoia’ actor doesn’t mind since he has already moved on as he was seen kissing his alleged new girlfriend, Eiza Gonzalez. Hemsworth wants his former fiancé to keep the $250,000 engagement ring that he gave her in May 2012. It was also reported that the “Hunger Games” star told Cyrus that he wanted her to keep the expensive ring as a symbol of their relationship. Hemsworth was reportedly very involved in the design of the ring, going “back and forth” with designer Neil Lane until settling on a 3.5-carat cushion cut diamond in a vintage-inspired gold setting flecked with tiny diamonds. Cyrus was last seen wearing the ring when she appeared in public with her ex-fiancé at the premiere of “Paranoia” in Los Angeles on August 8.
Khloe Kardashian who’s husband Lamar Odom was recently charged with one count of driving under the influence (DUI) in the wake of his battle with substance abuse, is doing her best to stay strong and focus on her own well-being after unsuccessful attempts to help her husband of nearly four years overcome his recent struggles. Lamar briefly entered rehab earlier this month, but checked out after less than one day. Prior to his short stint, the 29-year-old beauty and her family had been urging Odom to seek treatment following his DUI arrest. Khloe apparently gave Lamar an ultimatum: If he didn’t get help, she’d end the marriage, and so far, he’s ignoring her. While Khloe’s done everything in her power to help her hubby, she’s now come to terms with the fact that she may not be able to save their marriage. Although the couple’s troubled marriage has taken a backseat to Lamar’s addiction, the source believes that ultimately, their romance will end in divorce.

It seems like Hemsworth has already moved on fairly quickly as he has been seen kissing singer-actress Eiza Gonzales at her apartment complex in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. The two of them previously went clubbing together in Las Vegas, just barely a day after splitting with Cyrus.
Hollywood star Richard Gere has split from his actress wife Carey Lowell, according to a U.S. report The Pretty Woman star has separated from his spouse of 11 years, former Bond girl and Law & Order regular Lowell, and is moving forward with plans for a divorce, reports New York Post. A source tells the publication the stars, who have a 13-year-old son called Homer, have been “spending time apart for quite some time”. Gere, 64, was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, while Lowell, 52, has been wed twice before.

What is Halloween?
Halloween is a secular holiday combining vestiges of traditional harvest festival celebrations with customs more peculiar to the observance such as costume wearing, trick-or-treating, pranksterism, and decorative imagery based on the changing of the seasons, death, and the supernatural. It takes place on October 31st.
Though it was regarded up until the last few decades of the 20th century as primarily a children’s holiday, in more recent years activities such as costume parties, themed decorations, and even trick-or-treating have grown increasingly popular with adults as well, making Halloween a celebration for all ages.
What does the name ‘Halloween’ mean? The name Halloween (originally spelt Hallowe’en) is a contraction of All Hallows Even, meaning the day before All Hallows Day (better known today as All Saints Day), a Catholic holiday commemorating Christian saints and martyrs observed since the early Middle Ages on November 1st.
How and when did Halloween originate?
The best available evidence indicates that Halloween originated in the early Middle Ages as a Catholic vigil observed on the eve of All Saints Day, November 1st. It has become commonplace to trace its roots even further back in time to a pagan festival of ancient Ireland known as Samhain (pronounced sow’-en or sow’een), about which little is actually known. The prehistoric observance is said to have marked the end of summer and the onset of winter, and was celebrated with feasting, bonfires, sacrificial offerings, and homage to the dead.
Despite thematic similarities, there’s scant evidence of any real historical continuity linking Samhain to the Medieval observance of Halloween, however. Some modern historians, notably Ronald Hutton (The Stations of the Sun: A History of the Ritual Year in Britain, 1996) and Steve Roud (The English Year, 2008, and A Dictionary of English Folklore, 2005), flatly reject the popular notion that November 1st was designated All Saints Day by the Church to “Christianize” the pagan festival. Citing a lack of historical evidence, Roud dismisses the Samhain theory of origin altogether.
“Certainly the festival of Samhain, meaning Summer’s End, was by far the most important of the four quarter days in the medieval Irish calendar, and there was a sense that this was the time of year when the physical and supernatural worlds were closest and magical things could happen,” Roud notes, “but however strong the evidence in Ireland, in Wales it was May 1st and New Year which took precedence, in Scotland there is hardly any mention of it until much later, and in Anglo-Saxon England even less.” It seems reasonable to conclude that the connection between Halloween and the pagan Irish festival of Samhain has, at the very least, been overstated in some modern accounts of the holiday’s origin.
Earliest Halloween customs The earliest documented customs attributable to Halloween proper grew out of the tandem observances of All Saints Day (November 1st), a day of prayer for saints and martyrs of the Church, and All Souls Day (November 2nd), a day of prayer for the souls of all the dead. Among the practices associated with Halloween during the Medieval period were the
lighting of bonfires, evidently to symbolize the plight of souls lost in purgatory, and souling, which consisted of going door-to-door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for “soul cakes” and other treats. Mumming (or “guising”), a custom originally associated with Christmas consisting of parading in costume, chanting rhymes, and play-acting, was a somewhat later addition to Halloween. Again, however, despite the obvious similarities between old and new, it’s an exaggeration to say these Medieval customs “survived” to the present day, or even that they “evolved” into modern Halloween practices such as trick-or-treating. There’s no direct historical evidence of such continuity. By the time Irish immigrants took the holiday to North America in the mid-1800s, mumming and souling were all but forgotten in their home country, where the known Halloween customs of the time consisted of praying, communal feasting, and playing divination games such as bobbing for apples. The secular, commercialised holiday we know today would be barely recognizable to Halloween celebrants of even just a century ago.

a l o r i g n e Fu Playerz Bar which was formed in January 2012 on the demise of the popular Linekers Bar, is now fast becoming one of the best places to go for a night out in Fuengirola. The change over from Linekers to Playerz, started last year when the premises was given a complete makeover. The old bar was stripped back and everything was done up from scratch. Then following on from a successful first year, another refurbishment took place just before the Summer allowing for an extremely elegant V.I.P area with a top draw bottle service.
There are three partners in the Playerz group, Peter, Robyn and Anthony. However, Playerz is run by Peter, who was previously the manager of Linekers Bar which he ran for over 7 years. Peter, who is regarded as the ‘main man’ at Playerz due to his longevity and dedication to the success of the bar and not to forget his popularity amongst customers and employees, has really turned Playerz Bar into a well deserved, renown party venue. Since the change over from Linekers to Playerz, the bar has only gone from strength to strength and is regarded as one of the most popular bars to head to on a night out in Fuengirola. 20

Beauty
D.I.Y
Some of the DIY beauty myths you’ve heard over the years are a load of rubbish. Whoever thought washing hair with beer was a good idea must have been under the influence of one too many shandies themselves, but there are some quick fixes you can try at home that do work. Here are some of our favourites:
Use honey as a face mask Honey (it has to be raw honey, mind you) has antibacterial properties and is very effective at helping acne-prone skin. Slather on your face, leave for 10 minutes, wash off with warm water and the job’s a good’un. Some people complain that the honey draws out the toxins, causing problem skin to get worse before it gets better, but in the long run it’s a good solution.
Use baking soda on teeth to make them whiter Are you loathed to splash out on expensive teeth whitening kits? Try mixing one tablespoon of baking soda with three drops of hydrogen peroxide then use it as a toothpaste for a healthy set of pearly whites.
Shave legs with hair conditioner Forget spending money on a separate shaving foam, simply use hair conditioner instead. It’s super moisturising, makes the hairs softer and therefore easier to shave. Winning.
Use evening primrose oil to help spots heal faster Burst an evening primrose oil capsule and apply to troublesome spots to help them heal in half the time. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which can really help take the redness out of sore spots. Apply overnight and sleep in it for best results. 32
Never EVER go without a pot of Vaseline Petroleum jelly has countless uses. One of our favourite things to do is slather it all over our feet, slip on a pair of fluffy socks and then sleep. If you dye your own hair, it’s great for preventing the dye from staining your skin, just use it as a barrier around the hairline, ears and neck. Finally, it can also be used to tame unruly eyebrows.
Lemon peel can remove nail varnish stains If dark nail polish has stained your nails, simply rub some lemon peel on the stubborn spot. Soaking the tips of your nails in lemon juice can also make them whiter.
Use an orange to exfoliate The acid and Vitamin C in oranges makes for an excellent exfoliator. If you don’t have time to be concocting fancy homemade potions and lotions, simply cut an orange in half and use on your knees and elbows.
Shave your legs last If you tend to get bumpy or irritated legs after shaving, do it at the end of your shower when the warm water will have opened up your pores and the hair will be softer.
Keep your beauty products in the fridge Not all of them, obviously, but nail varnishes, eyebrow & eyeliner pencils and lipsticks can all be kept in the chilled section. Doing this will make your polishes last longer, as well as causing lip & eye pencils to be firmer and therefore give sharper lines.
Serum + foundation = beautifully soft skin Add a drop of serum (we love Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair) to your foundation to give your skin an extra glow.
Add a drop of peppermint oil to your lip gloss Add just a drop for a plumped up pout. Warning: it may tingle.

Bird pooh for beauty?
That’s what goes into facials at a luxury spa where the traditional Japanese treatment using imported Asian nightingale excrement mixed with rice bran goes for $180 a pop. Does it smell? Yes, but like toasted rice! After about five minutes, it comes off with a foaming cleanser and your face is draped in a warm, wet towel bathed in lavender and geranium essences. Finally, the grand finale – a green-tea collagen mask.
About 100 women and men go into the Shizuka New York skin care salon, just off Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, each month to get the treatment, which is promoted as a way to keep the face soft and smooth using an enzyme in the poop to gently exfoliate the skin. Spa owner Shizuka Bernstein, a Tokyo native married to an American, has been offering what she calls the Geisha Facial for about five years. She says that she is trying to bring Japanese beauty secrets to the United States. The Geisha Facial pooh treatment, while relatively rare in the United States, is no secret in Japan, where it was first used in the 1600s by actors and geishas. Apparently that’s why Japanese grandmothers have beautiful complexions.
What does a treatment entail? You recline back on a table, relaxing amid aromas of camellia, lavender and rose. Then the treatment begins with steam to open the pores and soften the skin. Cream is applied. And then comes what is called the nightingale part. The cream-coloured pooh is poured then dried and finely ground, into a bowl, mixing it with the rice bran using a small spatula. The potion is then applied to your face with a brush, rubbing it in using ones hands.
A common misconception is that any old bird pooh, even from pigeons, is used. This is not the case. Only droppings from birds of the nightingale species are used because they live on seeds, producing the natural enzyme that is the active ingredient. So is this yet another beauty craze that will be here today and gone tomorrow? Lets wait and see if bird pooh comes to a salon near you!

The ‘Jolie effect’ on breast cancer? Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie says she decided to go public about opting to have an elective double mastectomy to “encourage every woman” to think about their own risk of breast cancer. The 37-year-old was told by doctors that she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer without this radical treatment because of genes she inherited from her mother. Jolie explained that her mother fought breast cancer for nearly a decade and died at the age of 56. While most women will not have the same access to expensive private medical care as Jolie, testing for high-risk breast cancer genes is available in many developed health systems around the world.
“ The ‘Jade effect’ The NHS in the UK offers free testing to anyone who could be at high risk because they have a strong family history of the disease.
Jolie hopes that by speaking out about her own experience more women will get tested. Jolie is not the first celebrity to change women’s attitudes to cancer. In 2009, 27-year-old reality TV star Jade Goody announced that she had terminal cervical cancer. In the year of Jade Goody’s illness, more women attended cervical screenings and her death in March of that year sparked a massive increase in the number of women coming forward to be
screened for this cancer. Robert Music, director of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, said: “We saw an extra 400,000 women going for screening, that’s a rise of 12%. It had a huge effect. When Jade was diagnosed as terminal, the news was in everyone’s living rooms twenty-four-seven. As a charity, we saw a 300% increase in demand for our services at the time.” This came mostly from young women with whom Jade’s story had struck a chord. Sadly, the Jade effect was short-lived, says Robert Music. Screening rates fell back down again a year later and have remained so. Dr Richard Francis of Breakthrough Breast Cancer says we may well see a ‘Jolie effect’ for breast cancer. “It may raise awareness among women, which is important. There are many different types of breast cancer and that is not something that is really appreciated. It’s often seen as one disease. We do not want
For women like Angelina it’s important that they are made fully aware of all the options that are available, including risk-reducing surgery and extra breast screening. Most cases of breast cancer are not caused by inherited genes, but around one in 500 people carries a gene that puts them at high risk. Surgery to remove both breasts can slash this lifetime risk down to about 5%. Dr Richard Francis of Breakthrough Breast Cancer
women to be scared or worried but we do want women to be aware.” He said it was important to remember that BRCA gene faults were rare and in most cases linked to family history. “For women like Angelina it’s important that they are made fully aware of all the options that are available, including risk-reducing surgery and extra breast screening. Though Angelina decided that a preventative mastectomy was the right choice for her this may not be the case for another woman in a similar situation. We urge anyone who is worried about their risk of breast cancer to talk it through with their doctor.”

Breast cancer risk can be predicted using new technique A new way of predicting a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer has been developed. used to predict the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer.
Researchers at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, US, have produced a statistical formula that calculates a woman’s risk of developing the disease over a 10 and 20 year period. The technique, which examines their age, number of children they have, diet, lifestyle weight, use of contraception and whether they have had hormone treatment, could help doctors identify patients who need to undergo more regular screening. The technique, this is outlined it he journal PLOS Medicine, can also be
In a trial involving almost 122,000 women, the scientists found that the risk of developing breast cancer in women older than 50 ranged from 1.57 per cent to 21.78 per cent over a 10 year period. The risk ranged from 3.64 per cent to 35.11 per cent over 20 years. The scientists found that they were able to accurately predict those that developed cancer, particularly for those with breast cancer. Dr Ruth Pfeiffer, who led the work, said: “These models might assist in clinical decision making related to the risks of these cancers. Using risk models to select individuals for screening or other interventions usually requires
high discriminatory accuracy. Well calibrated risk models, even those with modest discriminatory accuracy, have several public health applications. These include designing cancer prevention trials, assessing the absolute burden of disease on the population and in sub groups and gauging the potential absolute reductions in risk from preventive strategies.” The research has been welcomed by cancer research charities who say it should help make it easier for clinicians to identify women most at risk of cancer. The NHS Cancer Screening Programme said it had no immediate plans to use mathematical models to help identify patients who need more regular screening.

Male Breast Cancer Although it is predominantly women who suffer from breast cancer, it is often overlooked that men can be battling the disease too.
One in 1,000 men is affected by breast cancer and it mostly occurs in those aged 60-70 years old. One man dies from the disease daily, according to the American Cancer Society. Although women are regularly encouraged to check their breasts, groups are hoping to raise awareness with men that they may also be at risk.
ONE IN 1,000 MEN IS AFFECTED BY BREAST CANCER
They have a higher chance of breast cancer if exposed to radiation, have family history or develop high estrogen levels which are linked to cirrhosis or Klinefelter’s syndrome.
The most common symptom for men is a lump in the breast area – nearly always painless. Early signs can also include lumps in the armpit or collarbone area, nipple discharge, and puckering, flaking or redness anywhere on the breast. Other symptoms can include an inverted nipple, oozing from the nipple and an infected open sore.
In terms of removing the cancer, the most common operation for men is the removal of the whole breast. Sometimes the surgeon also removes part of the underlying muscle if it is close to the cancer.
Here are just a few famous men who fought the disease: Richard Roundtree, the leading man behind ‘70s ace detective Shaft and star of Roots, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. He is a survivor after a radical mastectomy and several rounds of chemo. This occurred during his career resurgence, starting with a role on Beverly Hills: 90210. He has gone on to star in Seven, The Closer, Heroes, and Speed Racer.
Television announcer Robert Ray Roddy was a vocal fixture on The Price Is Right. There he transitioned from the voice of the show to the host, and was well-loved by those around him. In 2001 he was diagnosed with colon cancer, and he then later developed breast cancer. Before his death in 2003, he became a spokesperson for early cancer screenings. Senator Edward Brooke is known for a ground breaking political career. He broke barriers by being the first black man to be elected to the senate by popular vote in 1966. The three-term Massachusetts senator was the last until 1993, and is still the only African American to be re-elected. He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, and

since then has dedicated his time to raising awareness to the disease. George Lucas, the well-respected creator of the much loved Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchised is widely rumoured to have received treatment for breast cancer. It is well documented that he is a huge supporter of breast cancer research.
Organo Gold Green Tea Breast cancer trials have shown that drinking Ganoderma Green Tea has helped allay the growth of cancer cells. What makes the difference is the primary ingredient, 100% Certified Ganoderma Lucidum.
Ganoderma Lucidum is a 4000-year-old herb rich in fibres, minerals and other nutrients used in medical remedies as an adaptogenic herb which is proven to regulate the body functions specific to each individual. Extracts of Ganoderma are often used in medical products sold over the counter to try and battle cancer. Ganoderma Lucidum contains more than 200 active elements. Most frequently occurring are Polysaccharides, Organic Germanium, Adenosine, Triterpenoid and Ganoderic Essence. These active compounds help in boosting the immune system. They do so by strengthening Lymphocytes and Macrophages – important immunity cells. Triterpenes and Polysaccharides can also enhance the composition of Lymphocyte and Macrophage cells
individually to release Tumour Necrosis Factors (TNF) and Interferon, which further destroy cancer cells. These strengthened immunity cells act to destroy abnormal cells like cancer cells and so it may help with the prevention and treatment of Cancer. Ganoderma has been tested, and the results prove that it helps boosts immunity, and fights the good fight against cancerous cells in the body. There are some papers which even show it can slow or cancel out cancer metastasis. See the advert below for many other health benefits of Ganoderma Lucidum. Foods
known to help
prevent breast cancer
Carrots According to a recent study, a natural substance in raw carrots named “falcarinol” can reduce the risk of cancer. Experts believe that falcarinol slows the growth of cancer cells, making cancer less likely to invade. This unique substance is inactivated by heat or cooking, so it is critical to eat raw carrots for falcarinol’s benefits. In addition to falcarinol, carrots are naturally rich in healthy plant pigments called “carotenoids.” Orange “beta-carotene” is a carotenoid that gives carrots their beautiful orange hue. Numerous studies have suggested that beta- carotene might protect against cancer, including breast cancer.
Green Tea Green tea is rich in potent antioxidants called “polyphenols” that protect your DNA from damage and shortening, reduce inflammation, reduce estrogen, and reduce breast tissue density. EGCG, the primary antioxidant in green tea, has been shown to limit the growth of breast cancer cells by inhibiting the cancer’s blood supply. Green tea is much more potent than regular black tea. The recommended amount to consume is 2 to 4 cups per day.
Apples Six medical studies, published in the past year by Cornell researchers, report that apples prevent breast cancer by multiple mechanisms. Specifically, the studies show that natural substances found in apples decrease the number of tumours, 46
size of tumours, and tumour growth rates in animals. The more apple extract the animals were fed, the greater the reduction in cancer. The lead Cornell researcher states, “We not only observed that the treated animals had fewer tumours, but the tumours were smaller, less malignant [aggressive] and grew more slowly.” Remarkably, the researchers found that the most deadly “adenocarcinoma” form of breast cancer was found in 71% of animals not fed the apple extract, but in only 23% of the animals fed the highest dose of the apple extract. The same researchers found new substances in apple skins that also have anti-cancer activities.
Flaxseed Flaxseeds come from tall, slender flax plants, and have a warm, nutty flavour. About the size of sesame seeds, flaxseeds are packed with fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. Finely ground flaxseed flour is easy to find year-round at any grocery store, and can be easily blended into orange juice, protein shakes, or baked products like bran muffins. Supplement pills are also available. Flaxseeds are special for breast tissues, not only because they contain fibre and omega-3’s, but also special substances called “lignans” that exert protective effects. One animal study documented that flaxseed suppressed breast cancer growth and metastatis by 45%. Human studies have shown that women with breast cancer have much lower levels of lignans in their bodies compared to women without breast cancer.
Fibre Getting more fibre from fibre supplements (powders and pills), cereals, fruits, veggies
(including beans), nuts, and whole grains may not only reduce your risk of breast cancer, but also stop breast cancer progression. Scientists believe fibre may lower breast cancer risk in several important ways. Some studies have found that fibre reduces the amount of cancer-causing hormones, including reducing estrogen levels in premenopausal women, menopausal women, and breast cancer survivors. A recent medical study found that high fibre intakes were associated with a 42% lower risk of postmenopausal breast cancer when comparing women with the highest amount of fibre consumption to women with the lowest amount. Getting enough is very important, so aim for 30 or more grams of soluble fibre every day. Raspberries, pears and apples are three of the best fibre-rich fruits. Oatmeal, corn, beans, nuts, and popcorn are tasty ways to get more. Chewable fibre pills are easy. Drink plenty of fluids when eating fibre. Because a high-fibre diet also helps you lose weight, it is wise to start adding fibre to your anti‐breast cancer regimen now.
Omega-3 Omega-3 fatty acids are found in oil-rich fish like salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, lake trout, herring, and sardines. The fish fats supply healthy omega‐3 “fatty acids,” particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish is an excellent source of protein and Vitamin D3 without the harmful saturated fat found in many other meat products. A recent study examining breast cancer risk and omega-3 intake found a substantial risk reduction with increasing omega‐3 and oil-rich fish consumption in both premenopausal and menopausal women.
Walnuts Grabbing half of a handful of tasty walnuts daily may lower your breast cancer risk. A new breast cancer study suggests that eating just two ounces of walnuts daily prevents breast cancer. Breast cancer‐prone mice that ate walnuts as part of their diet had a much lower rate of breast cancer tumours. The mice that did eventually develop cancer showed a delayed time before the cancer appeared, and much smaller tumour size compared to mice not eating the walnuts. The study’s lead scientist commented, “These
laboratory mice typically have 100 per cent tumour incidence [occurrence] at five months; walnut consumption delayed those tumours by at least three weeks. With dietary interventions, you see multiple mechanisms when working with the whole food.
Pomegranate Pomegranate is a fruit with juicy ruby-red seeds. It contains many beneficial antioxidants in the same chemical class as green tea antioxidants. Scientists believe that the numerous anti-cancer substances in pomegranate “team up” to attack cancer on many different fronts including interference with cancer cell growth, cancer cell invasion, and cancer blood supply. In addition to natural chemoprevention effects, pomegranate also has antiinflammatory effects.
Broccoli Consumption of “cruciferous vegetables” has long been associated with a reduced risk of breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancer. Broccoli contains a substance called “indole- 3-carbinol” that can actually change your bad estrogen into a good form of estrogen that protects your breast tissues. Broccoli sprouts are also rich in “sulforaphane.” Sulforaphane causes your body to produce enzymes that detoxify free radicals, reduce inflammation, and remove carcinogens (chemicals that cause cancer). Laboratory studies show that sulphorane slows or stops the growth of breast, prostate, and other cancer cells. Some early studies in animals have shown promising results. New studies show that broccoli can even cause cancer cells to die.

Rare undersea discovery could extend your life by up to 30 years Today, the biggest killers stem as much from our lifestyles as from microscopic bacteria and viruses. One of the worst of these is heart disease, and specifically high blood pressure. It’s a slow, but efficient killer that robs many people of what should be the last 10, 20 or 30 years of their lives.
50
Part of the reason that heart disease is so prevalent and intractable is that it often requires massive changes to one’s lifestyle, changes that are not easy to make. Everything from radically altering ones diet to implementing serious exercise routines. And while it’s never too late to start, people often realise the true danger only when it’s too late to make the changes and the damage is done.
Now, however, there may be a scientific breakthrough that could have an impact on high blood pressure comparable to penicillin’s ability treat infections or quinine’s effect on malaria.
Scientists are claiming that they have now isolated unusual ingredients in a rare seaweed discovered by fishermen off the coast of Korea that offer incredible health benefits, including the ability to restore blood pressure to normal levels. Dr. Haengwoo Lee, a renowned biochemist living near Seattle, Washington conducted a massive 15year, multimillion dollar clinical study on these two ingredients. The first is Seanol, an extremely rare seaweed extract from Ecklonia Cava that’s proven to be 100 times more powerful than any land-based antioxidant. That’s because it stays working in your body for 12 hours, compared to land-based antioxidants that work for 30 minutes.
memory, to vision problems, joint pain, mood swings and depression. With that research in mind, Dr. Lee combined Seanol and Calamarine with a high dose of vitamin D to form Marine-D3, the newest supplement in the fight against age-related illnesses and high blood pressure. Also, increasing your omega-3 intake can reduce high blood pressure, and because it’s difficult to get enough omega-3s in foods like fish and nuts, many people turn to supplements. Dr. Lee found that Calamarine delivers some of the greatest concentration of omega-3s known to science, and has been able to formulate it without any fishy burps or aftertaste. Combined with Seanol’s ability to reduce body inflammation, as well as help cells get the nutrients they need to thrive, stay healthy and protected, Marine-D3 is able to boost a body’s entire well being.
RAZY CCRAZY “Its secret is its make-up of special polyphenol antioxidants that are a whopping 40% lipid (fat) soluble,” Dr. Lee explains. “Unlike nearly all land-based antioxidants that are water soluble, Seanol’s protective compounds can get into things like the fatty tissues of your brain and penetrate all three layers of your cells, including the outside, the oil-based cell membranes, and your DNA.” Indeed, Seanol is so powerful, it’s the only FDAapproved Ecklonia Cava marine-algae extract in existence. The second ingredient is Calamarine, a deep-sea omega-3 discovery that delivers 85% more DHA omega-3s to your heart, brain, joints, and eyes. It’s known to combat everything from fatigue and poor

Protein Powders Which type is best for you? Protein is a necessary component of the human diet. It is used in almost every biological process in the human body. There are many benefits to consuming adequate protein levels, including satiety and muscle recovery. Protein has also been shown to lower body fat mass, lower cholesterol and regulate glucose. However, there are many different proteins to choose from and they all have different properties that affect the body in different ways. One way to incorporate protein in the diet is through protein powders. The market is saturated with protein powders so it is important to know the differences between protein powders and choose what will best fit a person’s needs.
Choosing an animal-based protein powder Animal-based proteins are complete proteins. They are gluten free and widely available. They also tend to be cheaper than plant based protein powders. Learn the advantages and disadvantages of the most widely available animal-based protein powders.
Pick an egg protein if high bioavailable protein is most important to you. Body builders looking to bulk up quickly might choose egg powder unless they have egg white allergies. It is also the best source of protein and has a PDCAAS rating (scale on which protein content is rated) of 1.00, which is the highest rating it could have. As far as proteins are concerned, egg is the protein all other proteins are measured against. It contains all the essential amino acids and a few nonessential amino acids as well. Depending on the quality of egg protein powder, it could be higher in cholesterol than other protein powders. There is little research to show egg protein having positive effects on heart health. It does help increase satiety and help with muscle recovery.
Consume milk protein powder if you are trying to lose weight and improve health by exercising regularly. It is the most nutritious of the animal protein powders and contains many proteins. These proteins range from enzymes to whey protein. It also has a PDCAAS rating of 1.00. Milk protein has been shown to lower body mass and blood pressure in studies. It aids in muscle recovery, but is also very effective in stimulating the synthesis of new muscle protein. It is extremely soluble and will help deliver nutrients throughout the body. Studies have shown that milk protein is one of the best proteins for post exercise recovery and weight loss. One drawback to milk protein may be lactose. For people with lactose intolerance or sensitivity, milk protein powder can cause aggravation in the gastrointestinal tract.
Add whey protein powder to your diet if you are using protein powder to aid in postworkout recovery. It is made from milk and very effective at delivering nutrients in soluble form throughout the body. It is also better than milk protein alone at synthesizing new muscle protein. Whey protein is extremely soluble and absorbed easily by the body. It will absorb quickly as well, which makes it good for post workout. Also, due to its ability to act as carrier for other nutrients, whey protein is a good supplement to take with meals.
Whey can cause gas and bloating in lactose intolerant individuals. It comes in 3 levels of filtration which decreases these gastrointestinal side effects filtration with more filtration (Whey Protein, Whey Protein Isolate, and Advanced Whey Protein Isolate). The higher the level of filtration, the more expensive the product. It can be found at most health food stores and is reasonably priced. 53
Choosing a plant-based protein powder The plant proteins available as protein powders are generally complete proteins. Some are gluten free and all can be considered vegan. They have lower protein content than animal sources, but still have many benefits. Plant protein powders usually require more processing and tend to be more expensive than animal protein powders. Learn the advantages and disadvantages to the most widely available plant based protein powders.
Choose a soy protein powder if you are looking to improve overall health. It is the most popular and well researched. Soy protein comes very close to animal protein in protein content and quality. It has a PDCAAS value of 0.92 to 0.99. Studies have shown that soy protein lowers LDL cholesterol and affects fat metabolism. It also promotes satiety. There have been limited studies showing soy protein having positive effects on cognitive function. Soy contains phytoestrogen, a plant sterol that can mimic the hormone estrogen. Due to this many people have believed that soy products could aggravate breast cancer. New studies have shown that the opposite may be true and soy protein could actually have an effect in shrinking tumour sizes. Soy protein has also been shown to stimulate new muscle synthesis and be effective in post workout recovery, however it can raise estrogen levels and decrease the ability of the hormone lipase to break down body fat. This supplement is not the best choice for men. Soy protein is widely available and reasonable priced. 54
Have hemp protein if you are looking for a high quality vegan protein that is also high in fibre. It is a close second to soy protein in protein quality. The research on hemp protein is young, but has shown promising results. Hemp protein is high in fibre and may have antioxidant properties. It also contains essential fatty acids. Hemp also contains phytoestrogen like soy. Hemp protein is usually sold in blends with other proteins and is not widely available.
Buy a flaxseed powder if you need to increase protein and omega 3 fatty acids. Flaxseed is not a protein powder, but does contain high amounts of protein and can be used as a protein powder or with other protein powders. It is high in fibre and contains essential omega fatty acids, mainly omega 3’s. The protein content and quality can vary with flaxseed. It is gluten free. Flaxseed powder is sold in most grocery stores.
Incorporate brown rice protein powder into your diet if you have gastrointestinal issues, but still need a high quality protein powder. It is gluten free and easy to digest. It’s protein content is almost as high as soy protein. Preliminary studies have shown rice protein powder may lower cholesterol.
Pick pea protein powder if satiety is important. It is easily digested and also gluten free. It contains a well-balanced amino acid profile and a high amount of protein. It has a PDCAAS rating of 0.93. Pea protein is very soluble and easily digested. It contains some non-essential amino acids in high amounts as well. Preliminary studies have shown pea protein leads to better satiety than milk protein or whey protein. It is not commonly found alone, but is mostly sold in blends with other proteins.
Understanding quality in protein powders The market contains many protein powders of varying qualities. It can be hard to understand which protein has the highest amount of bioavailable protein or which blend is the right for you. Here are some tips to help you along. Understand what PDCAAS rating stands for. PDCAAS stands for protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score. This score rates the protein based on bioavailability and essential amino acid supply. The highest score is 1.00. Know the difference between isolate and concentrate. Concentrate contains between 30% and 85% protein. It is cheaper and easier to find. Isolate contains more than 90% protein and is more expensive. When purchasing protein powder, be sure to check the label for the percentage of protein to be sure you are getting the best powder for your money.
Check the label when purchasing protein blends. You will want to know how much of each protein is in the blend before you purchase. This should be stated somewhere on the label. If it is not stated, you may want to consider another blend. Know that amino acid powders are not the same as protein powders. Proteins are made up of amino acids and, in order to be a complete protein, they must contain all 9 essential amino acids. Amino acid powders have their functions, but will not do the same thing as a protein powder.

How to get rid of back fat You use your back muscles in almost everything you do – are you giving them enough attention? Building and maintaining strong back muscles can help relieve and prevent back pain, improve posture, and help you get that toned body.
Plank-to-Row
Pull Ups
Inverted Modified Row
This is the greatest exercise to strengthen your upper back. Because it’s so challenging, I recommend using a band to assist you. Take a circle resistance band and loop it around the top of your pull up bar, and wrap it around your feet. Pull yourself up, hold for 2 seconds, then slowly lower yourself back down. Do as many reps as possible. If you can only do one or two that’s fine, just increase by one every week and you’re on your way.
Get into a pushup position with a weight in each hand (pick a dumbbell that fits your fitness level). Next, place all of your weight on your left arm, picking up your right arm to your side, holding the dumbbell. Keep your abs engaged the entire time, and make sure your hips are squared to the ground. Go for 10-12 reps before repeating on the other side. As you get stronger you can use heavier weights.
You’ll need a secure bar that you can hang from. With your feet on the ground, knees at 90 degrees and back straight, as shown. Keeping your core tight, pull up with your arms to lift your chest to the bar, hold for 2, then lower back to start. Aim for 3 sets of 10-12 reps. As you get stronger, you can try to walk your feet out into a straight line in front of you.
Reverse Fly
Try these with a small weight of 2-5 pounds (whichever is most comfortable.) Sit on the edge of a chair (or exercise ball if you have one available) and lean forward from your waist, keeping your back straight. Your arms should be relaxed, palms facing each other, holding the weights. Next, raise your arms up and out until your weights are at shoulder height. Return to start and do 3 sets of 10-12 reps.

Revolutionary Training System Look Your Best Fitness & Lifestyle studio brings a highly effective personalized training method to Marbella, which uses smart technology to deliver the best results. Their exclusive studio in Puerto Banus offers fast, targeted, effective personal training. It combines muscular stimulation technology (EMS), a gentle and bespoke 20 minute workout and nutritional advice for maximum results. Just one 20 minute session is equivalent to 90-120 minutes in the gym, so it saves time, reduces impact on joints, activates muscles and makes clients feel great. Research shows that this training is significantly more effective than a conventional fitness workout, because the impulses combined with exercise activates 90% of muscles. Without straining tendons or joints amazing results can be achieved no matter what your age, fitness level or health. EMS technology can be tailored to the goals of the individual, such as to burn calories and lose weight, reduce cellulite or improve endurance and strength for peak sporting performance. Studies have also shown that it is an effective way to combat back pain, help people to recover from injury, treat incontinence and it has even been used for cardiac patients to regenerate neurohumoral, inflammatory and skeletal muscle and significantly improve their wellbeing and quality of life. Look Your Best have brought together a combination of this cutting edge technology, highly qualified trainers and an exclusive environment to help people achieve their goals, safely and with maximum privacy. What is EMS? EMS is a method of stimulating muscles using light and painless electric impulses. It has been in development for over 60
100 years for the rehabilitation of patients after injury and illness to allow muscle building with limited movement. This was later applied to professional sports to allow elite athletes to improve their performance, now it has been combined with personal training and effective exercises for the best results to date. How does it work? The body suit replicates the natural principal of our central nervous system sending electrical impulses to control our muscle action. Whilst this is happening a personal trainer guides you through low-impact exercises for highly effective training results in a short time. A personal trainer controls each muscle group and the intensity of training according to individual goals. It is so effective as 90% of the muscles are activated simultaneously and the muscle contractions are more intense than can be achieved through exercise alone. The agonist and antagonist muscles work simultaneously and deeper muscle groups are stimulated. Research shows that a 20 minute muscle stimulation training session (EMS) is more effective than a 90-120 minute conventional session of weight training. Look Your Best is located in Calle Ramon Areces, Marina Banús, Edificio III Local 3, Puerto Banús and they are offering 25€ trial sessions when you quote LS2013. s m o o r d e B A bedroom should be a space where you can, at any time day or night, close the door behind you and relax – your sanctuary. White Design Company has a large range of beds and bedroom pieces for you to choose from.
The beauty of a bedroom greatly depends upon the quality of the furniture. But that’s not all. Any interior space can be enhanced using decorative pieces, but I cannot stress enough the importance of soft furnishings in this room more than any other.
3
Decorative headboard or feature wall? This is the question! Wallpaper is very much back in fashion or, with a large range of fabrics to choose from, we can also make large, decorative headboards in any shape or size that look great.

I absolutely love my bed. My advice is to buy the best mattress you can; it is an investment. The trend now is Memory foam (visco) or Latex. Whether combined with springs or high density foam core, it will lead to a really good night’s sleep. If you have tried Memory foam or Latex you will not want to go back, just imagine waking up with no aches or pains. You do have to get used to it though and then, believe me you will be back for pillows to match. We have a very good range of mattresses, pillows and toppers for you to try but you may be looking for items for a spare room or rental property so there are also many other options.
Space savers are important here as the average apartment does not have enough floor space in the bedrooms to accommodate a chest of drawers. We provide a lot of built in shelving in wardrobes as there can be wasted space on the bottom of the wardrobes. This then allows you to have just a small consol table in the bedroom instead of a chest of drawers giving you more floor space.
5
Rugs, come the winter months, are a must on the cold marble or tiled floors. Whether, it is just a bedside rug or a larger one under the bed, you feel warmer just looking at them.
2
Window dressings can make or break a bedroom’s look. A couple of things you have to take into account are privacy and light as you will want the bedroom to offer you privacy but still to feel light and airy; blackout fabric on the windows with voiles or curtains is an option. All this considered they also have to look beautiful, window dressings can make all the difference to a bedroom.
Sweet dreams and see you soon.

Chicken & cashew nut curry with jasmine rice
ipes
Ingredients
Directions
• 2 lemongrass stalks, tough outer leaves removed and finely chopped • 3 garlic cloves, roughly chopped • 2 red chillies, finely chopped • 5cm/2in piece fresh root ginger, peeled and finely chopped • 1 onion, roughly chopped • 2 lime leaves, roughly chopped • 40g/1½oz fresh coriander, root and leaves separated, roughly chopped • 150g/5oz cashew nuts, soaked in a small bowl of water • 2 tbsp vegetable oil • 600g/1lb 6oz boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into strips • 500g/1lb 2oz tomatoes, roughly chopped • 1 lime, juice only • 1 tbsp fish sauce • 2 tbsp soy sauce • 300g/11oz jasmine rice
1. Place the lemongrass, garlic, red chillies, ginger, onion, lime leaves and chopped coriander root into a pestle and mortar or food processor and blend to a paste. 2. Add the soaked cashew nuts and blend (or mash) once more to a thick paste. 3. Heat a wok over a high heat, add the oil and, when smoking, stir-fry the sliced chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes, or until just golden-brown. 4. Add the curry paste and continue to stir-fry for two minutes, or until fragrant. 5. Place the tomatoes into the same food processor or pestle and mortar you used to make the curry paste and blend to a purée. 6. Add the puréed tomatoes to the wok and cook the mixture for a further two minutes, or until the chicken slices are cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly. 7. Meanwhile, place the jasmine rice into a saucepan, cover with water, cover the pan with a lid and place over a gentle heat. 8. Bring the water to a simmer then cook the rice for 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and leave the rice to steam on the residual heat for five minutes, or until tender. Drain well and fluff with a fork. 9. Just before serving, season the curry with the lime juice, fish sauce and soy sauce, then stir in the reserved coriander leaves. 10. Serve the chicken curry with the jasmine rice alongside.

Power, performance, luxury The appeal of the world’s most stylish, luxury grand tourer is enhanced with the introduction of the new, sporting Bentley Continental GT V8 S. Available as both a coupe and convertible, the new GT V8 S models bring added excitement to the Continental range with lowered and retuned sports suspension, sharper steering, dramatic ‘S’ signature styling cues and a distinctive soundtrack from the uprated V8 engine. These two new models expand the Continental family and provide an even more engaging driving experience from Bentley’s already renowned 4-litre twin-turbo V8 powertrain. The new Bentley Continental GT V8 S Coupe and Convertible will be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Show. Delivered via a close-ratio ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, the increased power provides effortless, exhilarating high performance with breath-taking acceleration and imperceptibly smooth power delivery. Switch into S mode via the gear selector and the V8 S rewards the spirited driver with a sharpened throttle response while gears are held for longer with faster shifts. The GT V8 S coupe dispatches the 0-60 mph sprint in just 4.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5s) onto a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h). The performance of the GT V8 S
convertible is equally impressive, reaching 60 mph from a standing start in 4.5 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.7s) and a top speed of 191mph (308km/h). The increased performance is achieved without detriment to the V8 engine’s class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions, or its ability to cover more than 500 miles (805 km) between fill-ups. The new GT V8 S coupe returns a combined cycle fuel economy of 26.8 mpg (10.6 l/100km) and CO2 emissions of 246 g/km. The equivalent figures for the convertible are 25.9 mpg (10.9 l/100km) and 254 g/km. This impressive combination of power, performance and economy is the result of an array of advanced technologies employed in the design of the Bentley V8 engine. Variable displacement, in which four of the eight cylinders shut
down when cruising, reduces fuel consumption without any loss of refinement. When more power is required, the engine switches back automatically and seamlessly to the full eight cylinders. The high-technology V8 engine also features high pressure direct injection, low friction bearings, advanced thermal management, energy recuperation via the electrical charging system and innovative turbocharger packaging for greater efficiency. The V8 engine’s variable displacement system presented a unique challenge for Bentley exhaust engineers. When cruising on a light throttle in 4-cylinder mode, the exhaust system is tuned for refinement while maintaining a distinctive V8 sound. However, under acceleration the character of the system changes dramatically as the twin turbo-charged Bentley V8 transforms into an emotive growl.

A more agile, responsive and involving driving experience
The power and performance of the GT V8 S models are complemented by a range of chassis enhancements, which deliver greater agility and a more involving driving experience without compromising the Continental’s legendary ride comfort. The GT V8 S retains the aluminium double-wishbone front and trapezoidal multi-link rear selflevelling air suspension with continuous damping control that is common to all Continental models. For the GT V8 S, there is a more sporting setup with subtly different tunes for Coupe and Convertible. Lowered sports suspension (by 10 mm) is complemented by increased spring rates (45% front, 33% rear) and revised damping for
a more engaging and responsive drive. Bush stiffness’s are increased by up to 70%, while the rear antiroll bar is stiffened by 54% over the standard GT V8 models for improved body control and turn-in. A recalibrated steering system completes the new chassis system, offering both improved precision and feedback through changes to static toe and camber and new software. Careful recalibration of the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system ensures minimal degradation in ride comfort despite the gains in handling performance. The Electronic Stability Control is also optimised for the GT V8 S. The retuned system allows increased
wheel slip at higher speeds with engine torque reinstated more quickly after a system intervention. This provides the spirited driver more opportunity to exploit the full potential of the uprated chassis and increased power. The Lower Body Styling Specification - front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser - benefit aerodynamics by reducing front-end lift and provide greater stability at higher road speeds. Shared with all Continental models, the all-wheel drive system employs an advanced Torsen differential and a 40:60 rear-biased power split. This ensures the delivery of safe yet dynamic handling in all road conditions.

Distinctive sporting design cues
84
While the elegant coachwork of the Bentley Continental GT is inspired by iconic Bentleys of the past, its modern, sculpted design, with crisp, highly defined feature lines, is formed using advanced body construction techniques, achieving class-leading standards of quality and body integrity.
complemented by unique, lowerbody styling including a sharp front splitter, discrete side sills and subtle rear diffuser finished in Beluga gloss. The black gloss radiator grille with single chrome divider bar and ‘figure of eight’ exhaust tail pipes instantly signify the powerful V8 engine.
For the new ‘S models, the design of the Continental takes a more dramatic direction and its enhanced road presence is clear before a wheel is turned. The lowered suspension provides a more sleek and purposeful stance,
The signature 20-inch wheels are unique to the ‘S’ models with an open-spoke design that reveals distinctive, red-painted brake calipers. Subtle ‘V8 S’ badges are applied to each front fender, and as with the other members of the
Continental V8 family, the famous Bentley Wings badges feature a red centre. In common with the Continental GT W12, the GT V8 S models are available in the full palette of 17 paint colours, of which seven vibrant hues are specifically recommended by Bentley Design to match the sporting character of the new model. Of these, two shades (Kingfisher Blue and the new Monaco Yellow) are signature colours for the GT V8 S.
Hand-crafted contemporary luxury The cabin of the Continental GT is renowned for its supreme luxury with soft-touch leathers, wood veneers, polished metals and deeppile carpeting, hand-crafted in Bentley’s unrivalled workshops at the factory in Crewe, England. The cabin of the ‘S’ models presents a thoroughly modern interpretation of Bentley luxury in which colour and tone offer further appeal to the senses. Available with a range of striking duo-tone interiors, customers may also select from the full range of seventeen hide colours. The GT V8 S coupe also features a unique contrast centre-stripe for the hide-trimmed roof lining, matched to the colour of the main hide. Contrast stitching throughout,
including to the steering wheel, is also available as an option. Knurled chrome detailing to the gearshift lever and ventilation controls provide a perfect contrast to the Piano Black veneers which are sanded and lacquered up to 18 times to produce a truly flawless finish. Discreet ‘V8 S’ badges are displayed on each sill tread plate. As with all Continental models, the ‘S’ models include advanced infotainment technology as standard, including an 8-inch touchscreen which displays the car’s navigation, audio and telephone systems as well as the ride and comfort settings for the air suspension, all complemented by a 30GB on-board hard drive.
Tailoring the specification Customers may tailor the specification of the GT V8 S by selecting from a range of optional equipment. The sports exhaust option features redesigned silencers, revised pipe architecture and re-tuned mountings which result in a free-breathing system that delivers a full-blooded V8 sound track. The optional Mulliner Driving Specification features 21-inch 7-spoke Black Edition wheels, drilled alloy foot pedals, a ‘jewel’ filler cap and a cabin trimmed in diamond-quilted, perforated leather with indented headlining. Other key options include Mulliner dark - tint front and rear lights and Beluga gloss door mirrors to match the Lower Body Styling Specification. Deliveries of the new Bentley Continental V8 S start in early 2014. 85

Football Liverpool vs C Palace
SATURDAY 5TH OCTOBER
Can Liverpool continue their push for the top 4? They’ve started well and I see no reason why they can’t get the full 3 points here. Palace have done ok so far, but this is a long season and I can’t see them getting anything from this game. 2-0 to Liverpool.
Man City vs Everton Gareth Barry
Fulham vs Stoke City
Two teams who invested pennies into their squads but will want to remain in the premiership. So far so good for Stoke who are currently gaining wins and Fulham have been...Fulham, who always turn it round in the second half of the season. So who will win here? This has all the hallmarks of stalemate and i’ll go for 0-0.
90
FIXTURES & PREDICTIONS
A tough game for city as they welcome back City old boy Gareth Barry who’s on loan to Everton for a year. Barry will want to prove doubters wrong and so will try to drive Everton’s midfield. The loss of Felliani is a blow to Everton but they did manage to keep hold of Baines so it’s not all bad. City have been great this season but also pretty woeful in defence and so if Everton keep it tight they could cause problems. I still see a city win though 1-0.
Premiership
Tottenham vs West Ham
A blood and thunder game and West Ham have started well this season and will definitely want to put one over their London big spending rivals. Spurs have bought well but it could take a few days to settle in and so they could still be quite vulnerable here. I’ll go for a 1-1 draw.
Cardiff vs Newcastle
Cardiff have surprised many and by adding close to 34 million in talent this closed season, Joe Kinnear Newcastle have spent not even a hundredth of that. With the just plain weird decision to appoint Joe Kinnear to Director of Football, it seems that all players throughout civilisation took one look and went ‘nope, I don’t think so’. Leaving Newcastle deep in the mire and longing for the end of the Mike Ashley regime. Sadly Obama isn’t a Newcastle fan and willing to force through regime change, so it looks like more of the same for the long suffering Newcastle fans. 1-0 to Cardiff.
Hull City vs A Villa
Southampton vs Swansea
Southampton need to show some return for the big outlay so far this summer and so far they’ve been ok but not really producing the goods. Swansea started badly but they’re slowly coming back to form and rising up the table. Both teams play good football and I can see a lot of goals here. I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.
Sunderland vs Man Utd
Sunderland have started slowly and are currently struggling to get any points. The stadium of light can be an intimidating place to come though and most teams will struggle. Manchester United won’t though and I can see the away side winning 0-2.
SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER Newcastle vs Liverpool
In the past this game would guarantee goals galore and I can see this happening again. Newcastle at least have their supporters to create an atmosphere and they’ll certainly drive on their team. It will be noisy and there will be goals. 2-3 to Liverpool.
Chelsea vs Cardiff
Jose Mourinho
Hull may get the odd result, but Hull will struggle for most of the season and I can see them struggling here against Villa. Villa have shown huge signs of progress under Paul Lambert and by keeping Christian Benteke they can firmly establish themselves in the top ten this season. I’ll go for a Villa away win. 1-2.
Chelsea are hard to beat at Stamford Bridge at the best of times, but this season Mourinho will make sure they’re even harder. Despite Cardiff’s investment, Chelsea’s is even larger and with their squad they should stroll through this game. 2-0 to Chelsea.
SUNDAY 6TH OCTOBER Norwich vs Chelsea
Norwich have been strong at home but Chelsea will be too strong for the Canaries here. Mourinho is master of grinding out away day results and so expect more of the same in the game. 1-2 to Chelsea.
West Brom vs Arsenal
West Brom need to put some points on the board as they’re currently not playing well and with the absence of Lukaku (on loan from Chelsea last year) they’re not getting the goals. They will come but whether they’ll Lukaku come against Arsenal I have my doubts. They might get a draw though – 1-1.
Man Utd vs Southampton
Southampton arrive with fresh memories of last years game where they outplayed United for much of the game only for United to snatch the game in the last minute. That will have hardened their resolve and with Moyes not being able to repeat the whole ‘united score in the last 5 minutes’ effect then the result might be very different. Do I see Southampton getting a win here? No, but I think they might push for a draw. 1-1.
Swansea vs Sunderland
Swansea have been coming back into form and certainly playing well in Europe has spread the word of the team. Sunderland have made a lot of changes and while something had to be done after last season, it will need time to settle those players in as a team, whether di Canio can do this remains to be seen, but he will want to see signs of teamwork considering it’s coming up to November now. I still see Swansea winning here though but it will be hard fought 1-0.
Arsenal vs Norwich Mesut Ozil
This should be a decent game with Norwich arriving at the Emirates. Norwich have shown they can play good football but if they try it here, they’ll be swamped. Arsenal are pass masters and with Ozil in full flow, Arsenal are extremely dangerous. Christiano Ronaldo showed his displeasure when Ozil was sold as he saw Ozil as the only one with the vision to read his play, Ozil should fit in nicely at Arsenal and while their defence is still dodgy, against lesser teams they should still win out. 2-0 to Arsenal.
91
Everton vs Hull City
Everton will want the points and Hull city will oblige. Though the ghost of Felliani is still around, Everton have more than enough to win through against Hull. 2-1 to Everton.
Stoke City vs West Brom
Stoke have started superbly and West Brom have been wretched. Hughes has initially given the Stoke players a boost that was probably needed after their flirtation under Tony Pulis with relegation. West Brom just need any points going and trying to find them here at Stoke is a tall order. West Brom haven’t become a bad team overnight though and the loss of Lukaku has at least been replaced with Anelka. A draw is on the cards here 1-1. Nicholas Anelka
the premiership. Villa will certainly try to exploit any weakness in the new squad Andre Villas Boas is putting together. Villa are at home but will want to attack, will spurs sit back and do the counter attack? It might be a cagey affair and so i’ll go for a draw. 1-1.
MONDAY 21ST OCTOBER C Palace vs Fulham
Local derby and the locals will be in fine voice. Both teams will be fully aware of the relegation zone but these are still early days and there’s everything to play for. Fulham have the better players and are the more experienced at playing at this level, but Palace have to learn sometime and it has to be now. Fulham were pretty poor away from home last season so I’ll go for a draw 1-1.
C Palace vs Arsenal
Another interesting clash of styles. City should win this but I wouldn’t put any money on it. Allardyce has created a West Ham who will fight for every ball and bother the opposition when they have the ball. The hammers have also brought in quite a few quality signings for the right price and they’ll certainly push Manchester City all the way. 0-1 to City though.
SUNDAY 20TH OCTOBER Aston Villa vs Tottenham
92
as
Andre Villas Bo
Palace play again in the space of 4 days and so will be wishing they won’t be facing a full strength Arsenal team. It will be interesting to see how well Ozil has slid in to play for the Arsenal team. There’s every chance that if they can sort out their defense then Arsenal can maintain their top 4 status. I can’t see anything beyond and Arsenal win here. So I’ll go for 1-0.
Hull will do well to keep the scoreline respectable here. Goal difference might make all the difference in the end of the season and games like these are all important. If they can contain Spurs then they can keep the goal margins down to one or two. 2-0 to Spurs.
A Villa vs Everton
Martinez’ Everton arrives at Villa and time will tell just how much Felliani will be missed. I have a feeling he will be a major loss but at least Everton have the 27 million to spend in January if needed. For this game, I think Villa will edge it and Benteke and Abonglahor will cause problems. 1-0 to the Villa.
Man Utd vs Stoke City Mark Hughes
Liverpool vs West Brom
Last season, West Brom beat Liverpool 3-0 and this will be remembered here. Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers will have learned from his mistakes and so will be wary of the baggies, and as this is at Liverpool I think they should win out. 2-0 to the home side. Brendan Rodgers
An excellent game to watch for the neutral as both will want to win and show what they can do to the rest of
Norwich will fancy this game as they’re at home and that form is good. Cardiff will want to mix it with the teams that will be around them for the rest of the season and so get some points here. Norwich to win this by a 2-1 margin.
Tottenham vs Hull City
SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER
West Ham vs Man City
Norwich vs Cardiff
Mark Hughes returns to United and it will be a major shock for him to see no Fergie in the dug out. Stoke have been doing well under Hughes so far much to my surprise and though they’ll make it difficult for United I can’t see them winning here. 1-0 to United.
Swansea vs West Ham
This should be a good game with both teams going for the win. Laudrup has been recently linked with the job at Benfica which just goes to show what a good job he’s doing at Swansea. Allardyce is also doing a good job at the hammers and has been playing some good football to boot. Gone are the days of Bolton and the dire football we saw under him and with a little bit more backing Allardyce can buy a few more creative players to help him climb the table. A few goals will be scored in this game and I can see a 2-2 scoreline.
not always the case and with the tactical nous of Martin Jol, Fulham will still do well against the odds. Southampton should edge this one though as Fulham aren’t great on their travels. 1-0 to Southampton.
SUNDAY 27TH OCTOBER Chelsea vs Man City
Top game for a Sunday afternoon. Mourinho v Pellegrini’s teams meet for the first time and both will be vying for the title. Both sides have invested a lot of money and both have very strong squads. In a master stroke Chelsea have
managed to get hold of Samuel Etoo for free and he could make all the difference in the title race. City are up against it today as this game is at Chelsea so if they are to go on to win the league they’ll have to win games like this one. Chelsea to win 1-0.
Sunderland vs Newcastle The local derby of all local derbies. They hate each other and as long as they beat the other it doesn’t matter what happens in the league. Both teams look vulnerable but Sunderland are at home and that added expectation might bring a nervousness to their game. Newcastle to win 0 -1.
Samuel Etoo
Southampton vs Fulham
Games like these are 6 pointers and will point to how either team will end up at the end of the season. Southampton should do better as they’ve spent the money, but that’s
ENGLAND MATCHES Friday 11th October
England vs Montenegro
If England beat Montenegro then they’ll be assured of going through to at least the qualifiers. It’s in England’s hands at last but unless they get their full strength squad back then they will continue to struggle. Anyone witnessing the recent game against Ukraine, knows that they have no squad depth and look pretty clueless. They were awful against a pretty mediocre Ukrainian team and God help us when we play a half decent team in the World Cup. Having said that, Montenegro are nowhere near as good as they were in the first half of the campaign and as this is at Wembley, we should win. Close though and a nervous night awaits. 2-0 to England.

England vs Poland
Poland have nothing to play for anymore but there’s previous between our two nations. As this game is at Wembley then this should be pretty comfortable in the end and i’ll go for 3-0.

Champions TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER Arsenal vs Napoli
Arsene Wenger
Rafael Benitez
This should be a top game in the Champions league with the clash between Wenger and Benitez’ Napoli. Benitez did a fantastic job at Chelsea when taking over for the last 5 months of the season, getting them third and winning the Europa League. Not that a lot of Chelsea fans would notice as they didn’t like him as he stuck up for Liverpool and didn’t fall for Mourinho’s nonsense, Ah well at least Chelsea’s only reason for playing in the Champions League aka Roman Abramovich recognised Rafa’s class. This game should be a stonker and could go either way. Napoli have started well this season and they’re attacking talent will cause Arsenal problems. This game could well be a draw. 2-2.
League
Germans about an unfair balance between the huge money from the Arabs who own City and how Bayern are run in a typical German efficient way. 1-1 on the night. Both to go through in the group.
Shakhtar Donetsk vs Man Utd
A tricky game for United as this game is in the Ukraine and Donetsk are high up in their league at the moment. I don’t expect many goals here and if United aren’t top of their game they could well lose this one. I’ll go for a bore draw though 0-0 and job done for United.
TUESDAY 22ND OCTOBER AC Milan vs Barcelona Mario Balotelli
WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER Man City vs Bay Munich
City want to win in Europe and Pellegrini has enough pedigree and expertise to take them into the latter stages of the champions league. Bayern Munich are current European Champions though so expect to hear the sniping from the 94
This should be a great game between two entertaining attacking sides. Arsenal with Ozil should be even better going forward than ever but will still remain vulnerable in defence whilst Dortmund only just lost out in the Champions league final to Bayern Munich. I expect plenty of goals here and I’ll go for a 2-2 draw.
Schalke vs Chelsea
Schalke shouldn’t give too many problems to Chelsea here. And as Chelsea with Mourinho at the helm are masters of getting a result then expect a game of few chances and a win for the away side. 0-1 to Chelsea.
WEDNESDAY 23RD OCTOBER CSKA Moscow vs Man City
Celtic vs Barcelona
Celtic have done well to get to the group stages but now they find themselves in the group of death along with Barca, Ajax and AC Milan. Do I see Celtic getting through the group? No...but they may spring a few surprises along the way. 0-1 to Barca.
Arsenal vs B Dortmund
Balotelli has been reborn at Milan and Barca beware. After signing from Manchester City, Balotelli scored 12 goals in 12 games and this season he’s started in similar vein. Neymar and Messi will play for Barca and this should be an incredible match for the neutral. I’ll go for a draw. 1-1.
Celtic vs Ajax
So can Ajax mix it up with the big boys in the group of Death? If they are to get any points at all, then this is the game they can gain a few. They might even sneak a win as Celtic park is a hard place to get a result for any visiting team. 1-0 to Celtic.
With CSKA top of the Russian league and the temperatures rapidly falling at the end of October, then this could be a difficult game for Manchester City to deal with. Pellegrini is well aware of European football however and I think he’ll be happy with a point from this game 1-1.
Man Utd vs Real Sociedad
This should be a cake walk for United here at Old Trafford. Sociedad aren’t exactly playing well at the moment after qualifying for the Champions league and I can’t see them getting anything over United, especially away. So I think this will be a comfortable United win 2-0.

State of Play
18 League title, 5 European Cups, 3 Uefa Cups, 3 Uefa Super Cups, 7 FA Cups and 8 League Cups.
Team Shirt & Emblem: The Liver Bird. Adopted in 1901. Their kit was red shirts and white shorts until 1964 when Bill Shankly, saw it as important for all red. ‘Shankly thought the colour scheme would carry psychological impact – red for danger, red for power. He came into the dressing room one day and threw a pair of red shorts to Ronnie Yeats. “Get into those shorts and let’s see how you look”, he said. “Christ, Ronnie, you look awesome, terrifying. You look 7ft tall.”
“
Why not go the whole hog, boss?” I suggested. “Why not wear red socks? Let’s go out all in red. – Ian St John.
Famous stand: Spion Kop
”
In the 2nd Boer War in 1906, 300 men from the Lancashire regiment died and many were from Liverpool. In its prime the Spion Kop could hold 28,000 people and was one of the largest single tier stands in the world. It could hold more supporters than some entire football grounds.
20 years ago, Liverpool was untouchable in English Football. With 18 League titles to their name and 4 European cups, they had dominated much of the 70’s and 80’s but then came the era of Graeme Souness. Souness destroyed Liverpool’s whole successful structure due to his ego and wanting to do it his way. Rather than continue with a pattern that had been so successful in the past, replicated by great managers before him such as Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish, Souness thought he could do it better. Ending the boot room and bringing in many players ‘ideal’ for the modern game, Liverpool have never recovered since. Much has been made of Alex Ferguson’s stint at Manchester United being the reason for Liverpool’s demise. Fergie stated that ‘he wanted to knock Liverpool off their perch’ which of course he did, overtaking Liverpool’s title successes to reach 20. Souness did the damage though and by the time he got sacked the damage was catastrophic. There were fits and starts in the following 2 decades, with Houllier winning the treble of UEFA cup, FA cup and League cup and Benitez winning the European Cup for the 5th time and coming within 4 points of winning the league once more. Benitez would probably have continued this but by then the two American Carpetbaggers, Hicks and Gillette, had taken over the club and were fleecing it daily.
Thankfully things came to a head there and they were removed and Liverpool is now owned by FSG another American Consortium but one which is connected with sport and the Boston Red Sox baseball team. After a problematic spell with now England manager, Roy Hodgson, who was never good enough and then appointing fans choice, Kenny Dalglish (despite Dalglish being out of the game for 10 years) they came to the decision of appointing Brendan Rodgers. Still young and fairly inexperienced, Rodgers had been sacked from Reading and had managed Watford and Swansea. Now he found himself at one of the biggest clubs in the game. His first season was hit and miss, while talking a good game, Rodgers never seemed to shut up. He always has an opinion on everything and sometimes contradicts himself the day after. He also got rid of some old stalwarts from the Benitez era, like Kuyt and Maxi and this was probably down to the new owners wanting to get rid of the high earners at the club. FSG’s credo is to buy cheap and young and sell on for profit. Why they allowed Dalglish to spend so much money on expensive English players is anyone’s guess. Rodgers will never be allowed to spend such money again and this has been shown by him spending about 30 million on 8 new players this summer. After Fergie effectively knocked Liverpool off their perch, Liverpool find themselves back on it after 3 games unbeaten. This won’t last but it’s their best start to a season for 19, they’ve kept hold of Suarez and with the introduction of Sturridge, Coutinho and Toure and with no European football to drain them, they might even challenge for a top 4 place. 95
Robin van
2 themes have dominated Robin Van Persie’s career so far: Silky skills and his temper. Robin van Persie was born on the 6th August 1983, is a Dutch striker who has played for at the highest levels of the game. His teams have been Feyenoord, Arsenal and his current team, Manchester United.
Silky Skills Van Persie is the son of 2 artists who wanted him to continue creating, which he does paying football stating ‘I think football is where my creativity comes out’. Likened to the supreme player of the 1980’s, Marco Van Basten, Van Persie continues to terrorise defenders throughout the game.
Temper His parents split early on in his childhood and he went to live with his dad. This may be the reason for his misbehaviour that dogged his school life as he was excluded from class on a daily basis as he was always angry. His career at Feyenoord had incidences of anger where he got sent off and fell out with the Feyenoord manager Bert Van Marwijk and seen in glimpses for Arsenal and Holland. Feyenoord soon got rid of Van Persie, and due to his disciplinary problems the only taker around at that time was Arsenal.
Arsenal Signed by Arsenal in 2004, he started his career as a left winger with exceptional dribbling skills and a good striker of the ball.. But he was bought by Arsenal to replace Dennis Bergkamp and like Arsene Wenger had done with Thierry Henry, Van Persie was turned from left winger to striker.

Van Persie married Bouchra and had 2 children with her, but then Van Persie was arrested in 2005 for suspected rape of a former Miss Nigeria Holland winner, Sandra Krigsman. He was held for 14 nights in jail until he was released without charge. Krigsman later admitted making up the rape story but Van Persie had slept with her and after some awkward moments his wife Bouchra forgave him. Quite why Krigsman gets away with putting Van Persie in jail for 14 days and wasting police time is open to debate. In 2010 Van Persie signed a new contract at Arsenal stating ‘My heart
is with Arsenal and I just can’t picture myself in a different shirt.’
Within 2 years he had signed for Manchester United. Van Persie ended up being 8th all time scorer with 132 goals.
Persie Manchester United
Transferred to Manchester United for 22.5 million and considering he was top scorer with 37 goals in the previous season, this was a steal for United. In his first season all was well and Van Persie helped united win their 20th league title with his 30 goals.
The Now But all things have changed at Manchester United and rumours have been circling that Van Persie isn’t that impressed with Fergie’s replacement, David Moyes. On international duty in September rumours started to spread that Van Persie was unimpressed by Moyes training methods. These rumours tend to be spread by old team mates or friends who have met up again when back in their home country. One of the rumours said he was not happy and ‘he could not hide it on the pitch, adding that when he became frustrated, he was capable of doing something silly.’ And if Moyes doesn’t get it right, then the old petulant Van Persie may return. The friend continued. ‘He feels it isn’t the same with the new manager as he misses working with Fergie, who he really loved playing under. Some of Moyes’ training methods are not to his liking either.’ Van Persie strenuously denied this rumours but there’s no smoke without fire and for them to appear in the first place shows that they may not be quite so extreme as the papers are suggesting, but there are doubts nonetheless. So Moyes and Manchester United be warned, Van Persia left Arsenal as he felt he couldn’t achieve anything more there and if Moyes struggles this season (where 3 points are turned into one through being too defensive), then if whispers from Real Madrid or Barcelona come calling, this could be Van Persie’s last move. 97
