ELEVEN gastronomic journeys around the world Visual Stories by Carla Branco | Story #12
ELEVEN Gastronomic journeys around the world Eleven is a gastronomic reference in Lisbon, with an elegant atmosphere and a privileged location at the top of Parque Eduardo VII, which gives it a breathtaking view over Lisbon. We went to taste the Gastronomic Fortnight by the German chef Joachim Koerper, which star ted precisel y with the German gastronomy.

To celebrate the arrival of Autumn, the time of the usual debut of new menus, the award-winning Eleven oers us a season of Gastronomic Fortnight dedicated to several countries. Chef Joachim Koerper opted to debut with German Gastronomy, produced under a current perspective that combines sophistication with the tradition of typical flavors.

Outside, the entire architecture of Eleven assumes itself as modernist and minimalist in forms and decorative elements using organic materials, such as stone, wood or iron. Inside, the classic colors predominate in an elegant and peaceful environment, and the huge windows reward natural light and the extensive view over the city. And it is by one of these huge windows that we sit at the table to contemplate Lisbon, the Tagus river, the boats that pass by the horizon and the typical contemplation of the Autumn afternoons that start to take shape with the taste of a Pommery champagne.

And for those who do not really know German cuisine, I confess that this was a great surprise with the reinvention of some of the traditional dishes, among them the Amouse Bouche with Currywurst and Bretzel, where simplicity is combined with the genius of being able to transform simple ingredients in unique moments. The motto was set for an exemplary meal. And it is these little delights that bring us good memories and that moment of comfort that becomes even more special during the Autumn season.

And the surprises continued to arrive at our table, this time with an aromatic and delicious smoked sardine butter - Although we are in a German week, this is “A small tribute to the city of Lisbon - confessed between smiles Joachim Koerper the chef responsible for bringing to Lisbon the first Michelin star with Eleven. 10

This is followed by the starter of Pork knee carpaccio with mustard vinaigrette and fresh Cantarellas with Bavaria açorda and the main dishes with Trout fillet with vegetables and Riesling sauce or the Stued and braised veal roll with Spaetzli. The final element was made with the typical Black Forest (Chocolate, kirsch and ice cream) and a delight of red fruits, also with ice cream. It is a comforting and surprising menu.

But in addition to gastronomy, we also highlight Eleven's exclusive wine cellar, with an extensive national and international menu, and the choice of wines that accompanied the entire meal. A white Riesling, reserve of 2019, and a rare and exclusive Joachim Koerper Pinot Noir Spezial 2016, both with a smooth and velvety flavor. In the end, we are eager and curious to get to know the remaining Gastronomic Fortnights that follow, as well as the dierent types of menus that Eleven provides: Summer, Lisbon and Eleven as well as the Take-Away options and an original Picnic.
