Cavalia comes to Calgary

Cavalia features 39 artists including aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians, as well as 49 horses. The show premieres in Calgary on May 25 at Canada Olympic Park.

Campers may not appreciate longweekend liquor bans but according to the province, the bans are working. Since 2004 when the temporary liquor ban program was first implemented, unacceptable behaviours such as impaired driving, assaults and vandalism have decreased in these areas by an average of 90 per cent, according to a provincial spokesperson. “The reduction of about 90 per cent has shown us that it has been an effective way to still allow people to enjoy the parks over the long weekend, but still make it safe and friendly for everyone,” said Erin Larson of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. Larson said the decision to enforce a ban is based on previous incidents at particular parks.

RCMP Sgt. Dave Hardy

“The sites selected are re-evaluated every year and we do look at those enforcement stats and see if it’s still required there or not,” she said, adding the ban was removed at one of the parks this year. Rather than deterring campers, Larson said the parks with bans tend to attract more families and those sites tend to remain popular. RCMP Sgt. Dave Hardy said they have scaled back enforcement slightly over the last few years as more Albertans are complying with rules, but he added there will still be plenty of officers out this weekend.

Charges Last May long weekend, traffic units laid more than 2,800 charges throughout the province — 2, 269 of which were speeding violations. Suspensions 154 impaired drivers were also charged and 14 were issued 24-hour suspensions. Campsites There are approximately 13,700 provincial campsites in Alberta. Bans For a full list of provincial campgrounds with liquor bans, visit www.tpr.alberta.ca.

“There will be check-stops out in locations that have historically had high volumes of campers and recreational users. We will be out just doing what we can to make sure people get to a destination safely.” More coverage {page 4-5}

Slave Lake releases damage map IAN JACKSON/THE CANADIAN PRESS

Residents of fire-ravaged northern Alberta communities in and near Slave Lake are finally learning if their homes were engulfed by flames. The town has released a detailed photographic map that shows 374 lots were destroyed by the wildfires that swept through the area Sunday

evening. Another 52 lots were damaged. There is also a map of homes in the nearby Municipal District of Lesser Slave River that shows 59 lots were destroyed and 32 were damaged. Flames forced roughly 7,000 people to flee from their homes. Slave Lake Mayor Karina

Pillay-Kinnee says many residents will be heartbroken by the news, but they need to know. “This is a very emotional undertaking for everyone involved,” she said Thursday as the maps were shown to people at evacuation centres in Athabasca, Westlock and Edmonton.

Evacuees from Slave Lake arrive at the Athabasca community Sportplex on Tuesday.

Chatter of a framework arrangement for a new Edmonton arena circulated through Calgary hockey circles Thursday as Flames fans wondered if their team could someday find itself in new digs as well. Ken Travers has been a Flames fan since the team arrived in Calgary and attends up to 20 games at the Saddledome each season. “The building’s outdated,” he said. “They need more luxury suites generating income. It’s certainly not modern anymore.” Flames spokesperson

Peter Hanlon admits the team is watching proceedings on a new facility in Edmonton closely, but he would not speculate on local developments. “We are not ready for that public discussion yet,” he said. Mayor Naheed Nenshi said he is open to discussing proposals for a new facility, adding, “I have never been a huge fan of public dollars for that kind of infrastructure, but I am willing to be open minded.” Other Calgary groups speculated that a new facility could bring benefits beyond hockey. “An arena facility that was more conducive to

No fires, no booze, no fun?

Provincewide fire ban hasn’t been instituted since 1988 Calgary has banned all backyard fires while Edmonton is allowing fires in legal pits KATIE TURNER

@METRONEWS.CA

Conditions for campers may not be ideal during the first long weekend of the summer, but at least one Albertan is determined to make the most of it. New mom Cindy Degrace, 24, has camped with her family and friends over the May long weekend for years, and the fire ban didn’t make her reconsider “even for a second.” “We’ve been planning it so long, we can’t call it off at this point because of a

fire ban,” said Degrace, 24. As for the booze ban, she and her fellow campers have long boycotted provincial campsites for their stringent rules. Instead, the crew sets up camp in a field off of a service road near Caroline, Alta. Rather than cancelling her yearly trip altogether, Calgarian Lori Chick will be heading west. “We really like our camping, and you wait and you wait and you wait all winter, and then you wait for May long weekend to come and then that hap-

pens,” she said. “So, we decided to cancel that and we’re heading to B.C. where we can have a fire.” Echoing Chick’s feelings about the fire ban, Edmontonian Emily Cobb said she and her friends decided against making their yearly trek to a cabin near St. Paul. She and her friends had fireworks and arrangements to unwind, but not being able to have a fire, a camping tradition, is like a big wet blanket on their plans. “Who wants to eat boiled hot dogs on the May

long?” she asked. “With the money it takes for gas now, plus the fire ban, it’s just not worth it.”

The forecast Hot weather isn’t in the forecast for Calgary over the weekend. Saturday will be the warmest day of the weekend at 20 C. Cloudiness is expected on Friday and Saturday, while showers are in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.

Annali Lazowski and Jeremy Kavich aren’t dampened by the forecast or the fire ban as they pack up to camp this weekend.

Fire banned across the province $5K The province is taking extra precautions this long weekend by instituting an Alberta-wide fire ban to prevent further incidents of wildfires. As of Thursday, there were more than 70 wildfires burning throughout the province, including a massive fire in the community of Slave Lake. Karen Ritchie, information officer for Sustainable Resource Development, said despite the forecast of wet weather in the southern part of the province, the ban was necessary. With a large portion of the province’s firefighting resources already being utilized in Northern Alberta, the rest of the province is not as protected, according to Ritchie. “So many people have been exported to support the fires up north,” she

said. “What that means is they’re completely utilized so if a fire were to start, it’s just that much more of an issue here.” Ritchie said the only fires that campers will be allowed to set this weekend will be for cooking appliances such as propane or gas barbecues or pit stoves. “I expect that people will primarily follow (the ban). In spite of the weather, they understand it’s an important thing to do.” KATIE TURNER For more news, visit metronews.ca/ calgary

WEEKEND, MAY 20-23, 2011

DON’T JUST FRET OVER SLAVE LAKE, HELP IT IN DEFENCE OF ...

Like many Albertans, I’ve been absolutely transfixed MIKE MORRISON by the devasMETRO tation and loss caused by the wildfires in Slave Lake. I’ve spent hours pouring over pictures, news reports and blogs. It really is like watching a terrible Hollywood movie filmed right here in this province. And that’s saying something because we’ve made some pretty crummy movies (Santa Baby, Passchendaele).

More than clothes or food, money is an essential part of helping anyone recover from a tragedy. The need is only magnified when you think of trying to help practically an entire city all at once. I’ll be honest, I’m not usually the most charitable person. That’s not to say I’m not a nice person, I’ll brave the Deerfoot to pick you up at the airport, or sneak you into the Nashville North. But when it comes to donating money, it’s one of those things that I mean to do, I just never seem to get around to it. I’m admitting this, not because I love washing eggs off my house, but because I don’t think I’m the only one who could afford to be more charitable. I think there are lots of people who watch news

reports and think, “How sad,” and do nothing about it. But this time is different. This time it feels closer to home, so I’m admitting my fault in hopes of encouraging others to do the same. When I was younger, a friend of mine’s place burnt down. We were just kids, so I didn’t have any money to give; instead I gave her my favourite stuffed animal. It was a soft, brown bear and it was probably my best friend. I probably should have saved up my allowance for a few weeks and given her some cash instead, because to this day I still miss that bear. But it made her happy and I’ve never forgotten that. But I’m not a kid anymore. I’m a grownup. With a nice paycheque.

I buy coffee everyday and (sometimes) pay for the C-Train. I often go out to eat and have more clothes than I know what to do with. Like so many other people reading this right now, Calgary has been good to me. But being Calgarian has also taught me that if someone needs your help, you should give it. To put it in perspective, how often do you go out during Stampede and buy a stranger a drink? Donating to Slave Lake is like buying that stranger’s drink, only you’ll feel much better about it in the morning. Text RED CROSS to 30333 to make a $5 donation to the Red Cross relief efforts in Slave Lake.

Presenting the fixed short long variable mortgage. Don’t worry, we’ll explain. Deciding which mortgage term to go with is never easy. Locking in could mean missing out on a rate drop, while going variable makes you vulnerable to a potential interest rate increase. Great Firewall designer pelted Egg, shoes allegedly thrown at Chinese online censor Chinese police were seeking the man who allegedly threw an egg and shoes yesterday at the computer scientist famous for designing China’s Great Firewall of web controls. The attack — if true — is a particularly bold one for China and underscores how strongly people feel about the country’s strict Internet censorship. Good news for those who thought their copies of Playboy were gone forever when their moms found them and threw them away. Playboy launched a webbased subscription service Thursday called i.playboy.com that allows viewers to see every single page of every single magazine — from the first issue nearly 60 years ago that fea-

tured Marilyn Monroe to the ones hitting the newsstands today. “They no longer have to store 57 years — 682 issues — of Playboy under their mattress,” said Jimmy Jellinek, Playboy’s chief content officer. Chicago-based Playboy has seen its circulation plummet to 1.5 million today from 3.15 million in 2006 and has been trying

all sorts of gimmicks to attract readers in recent years. One issue included a set of 3-D glasses to better see a centrefold shot in 3-D; another turned over the cover to a cartoon character, Marge Simpson. Jellinek calls the website “the world’s sexiest time machine” and “an anthology of cool” for a magazine he refers to as “the Mount Rushmore of literary great-

ness.” But one industry analyst makes Playboy sound more like a tired, dusty half-empty amusement park. “The problem with Playboy is it not only lost its powerful interviews, but it lost its lead,” said Samir Husni, director of the Magazine Innovation Center at the University of Mississippi School of Journalism. Not-so-Secret Service on Twitter

G N O D L S I TH EKEN WE NLY! O

21 MAY SAT.,

U.S. spy agency apologizes for employee’s tweet Post quickly taken down, but re-tweets keep it alive

The U.S. Secret Service should consider reverting to code. The information gathering organization decided to open a Twitter account this month, and while it isn’t regaling us with tales of terror raids and false moustaches, the organization is letting us know it isn’t a fan of Fox News — at least one employee isn’t. “(H)ad to monitor Fox for a story. Can’t. Deal. With. The. Blathering,” a tweet from @SecretService, the service’s official account, read Thursday. The post was quickly taken down, but as the Secret Service probably knows, that which is posted on the World Wide Web

rarely vanishes for good. Re-tweets of the offending message appeared on Twitter and others offered screen grabs. And then there were the conspiracy theories: “Secret Service tweet is now gone. Rogue agent? Or hackers? Would be sad if Secret Service was no more

secure than Lindsay Lohan,” tweeted Time writer Amy Sullivan, who also retweeted the original post. The Secret Service has since apologized. It also said the vanishing tweet had been posted by an employee with access to the service’s account who mistakenly believed they were on their personal account. But why are the Secret Service’s Twitter novices watching Fox? “Our public affairs employees monitor all the news channels throughout the day for stories that affect the Secret Service,” special agent in charge Edwin M. Donovan told ABC News. TORSTAR NEWS SERVICE

SPEAKING OF THE APOCALYPSE ... THE METRO LIST 1

End days. According to Harold Camping, the head of the Christian radio network Family ANDREW WALLACE Stations Inc., the world will METRO end Saturday. Apparently, an earthquake will shake the Earth and the true believers will be swept up to heaven, while the rest of us are left behind to bear witness to the destruction of all human life. From Camping: “We know without any shadow of a doubt it is going to happen.” Uh, OK? Freedom of expression. Tyler the Creator, the frontman for Odd Future and one of hip hop’s weirdest up-and-comers, recently received the ire of one-half of Tegan and Sara for his misogynistic and homophobic lyrical content. The conversation took to the Twitterverse and somehow the issue morphed into a discourse on free speech. This, of course, isn’t a free “Apparently, an speech issue — it’s an idiotwith-a-platform issue. earthquake will Librarians. The proshake the Earth fession is under and the true threat in Ontario believers will be and elsewhere. In a world where e-books are booming swept up to and cellphones provide inheaven, while stant access to more inforthe rest of us are mation than anybody could ever need, an old-time culeft behind to rator of ink-and-paper bear witness products seems both obsoto the lete and irrelevant. But librarians are still a destruction.” wonderful resource. A library reconceived for the information economy could be more valuable than ever, and a librarian calibrated to meet today’s information challenges could be its greatest asset. The Biebs. This week Forbes magazine announced that Justin Bieber, the boy wonder from Stratford, Ont., is officially the third most influential celebrity in the world. He has made teen girls swoon, sold out a world tour and starred in a top-grossing film, not to mention selling his footwear and hair on eBay for $5,500 and $40,558, respectively. Apparently, that’s the stuff influence is made of. Speaking of the Apocalypse … James Frey. The famous author (and noted liar) is on tour in Canada to promote his new book, The Final Testament of the Holy Bible. On Wednesday, he was in Toronto to discuss the work with Indigo “chief book lover” Heather Reisman, which will surely be a boon for sales. In today’s world, liars remain unpunished — instead, they seem to be roundly rewarded. The Gos. It looks like Canadian kid Ryan Gosling is going to try his hand at directing. Word is The Notebook heartthrob will star in his own directorial debut, a remake of the 1980s musical The Idolmaker. Bieber may be Canada’s most influential celebrity icon, but the Gos is the Canadian Renaissance man. He acts, he produces, he sings and now he is going to direct. Also, like Ferris Bueller, he seems to be a righteous dude.

Letters WHITE ROCK, B.C. Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s latest Senate appointments must be called into question. Senators are to be a check on the prime minister, his cabinet and his House of Commons majority. They have the responsibility of providing “sober second thought” from their appointed positions. Appointing defeated candidates to the Senate cannot be considered otherwise than directly conflicting with this responsibility. Have Harper’s purely partisan personal appointees committed to voting as he pleases? Is that not vote buying? Is Harper not again in contempt of Parliament in making such appointments? Neither abolishing nor electing senators serves the purpose that the chamber was meant to serve when Canada came into being. A process that will enable the Senate to play its designated role that Harper has completely destroyed is to have senators appointed by the Governor General upon the recommendation of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.

WEIRD NEWS

She may be a little slow on the draw, though The highest court in Oregon unanimously ruled Thursday that retired bus driver Cynthia Willis can have her medical marijuana and a concealed handgun, too. The ruling issued in Salem, Ore., upheld previous decisions by the Oregon Court of Appeals and circuit court in finding that a federal law barring criminals and drug addicts from buying firearms does not excuse sheriffs

from issuing concealed weapons permits to people who hold medical marijuana cards and otherwise qualify. “We hold that the Federal Gun Control Act does not pre-empt the state’s concealed handgun licensing statute and, therefore, the sheriffs must issue (or renew) the requested licences,” Chief Justice Paul De Muniz wrote. Willis welcomed the ruling. “I feel like a big girl now,” she said. “I feel like a real human being now, not just a source of revenue to the county.” Oregon became one of the first states in the U.S. to authorize people to use marijuana to treat medical conditions when voters approved an initiative in 1998. Johnny Depp stars in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth movie in the Pirates franchise.

Scene in brief

It’s time to jump ship Richard Crouse and Mark Breslin debate Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Mermaids are great, but not much else to write home about Richard Crouse: Mark, my main question after watching the new Pirates movie is, If this was the first one of the series would we have had a two, three and four? I don’t think so. It’s a big splashy epic, but lacks the fun and Johnny’s joie de vivre of the original. What say you, matey?

brilliant characterization in the series, but really, the tricks are starting to show their age. And I didn’t like swashbuckling even when Douglas Fairbanks did it in 1932. Still, I thought this edition of Pirates was the best since the original, whatever that means.

Mark Breslin: Richard, I wasn’t even a fan of the original. And no franchise should exceed a trilogy unless the words “godfather” or “cheerleaders” are in the title. An appreciation of this movie is contingent upon how you feel about Johnny Depp and how much swordplay you can handle. I adore Depp’s

RC: I don’t think this one has the spark of the others. It’s not as funny, Depp seems like he’s gone back to the Captain Jack treasure chest one too many times and the action scenes, despite the 3-D, don’t fly off the screen the way they have in the past. I liked the mermaids and think their attack se-

quence is the most exciting thing in the movie, but I may be wrong simply because the movie is so dark I may have missed something. MB: Oh, those mermaids! Who knew they spoke in a Scandinavian accent? Yes, they are the most exciting thing in the movie, although I did enjoy Ian MacShane’s villainy. But despite the fountain of youth plot device, these Pirates are getting old. And you’re right about how dark the film is: I was straining to make out which pirate was which. Quick clue: Depp is the Pirate Who’s Had A Bit Of Work Done.

RC: Ha! Perhaps playing the same character four times in eight years is too much for Depp, or perhaps the limitations of Captain Jack are becoming apparent but he’s not as entertaining as before. Not that director Rob Marshall helps him. The action sequences are as well choreographed as you might expect from the man who made Chicago and Nine, but they are also as exciting as you would expect from a man who specializes in making musicals. MB: I see what you’re getting at. For the next instalment, make it a musical complete with a chorus line of mermaids!

Although the antics are amped up in The Hangover: Part II, star Bradley Cooper admits shooting the anticipated comedy was at least easier than the first. “There’s a certain amount of ease in knowing the character — having all this history,” said Cooper recently in Toronto. “There was a lot less preparation because the preparation was already (in doing) a movie. That’s a hell of a lot of rehearsal time to have another movie under your belt.” With the 2009 surprise hit earning a stunning $467 million US worldwide, there will be a lot of eyes on Part II and the comedy’s unfolding plot about a bachelor party gone wrong. This time, Cooper and company travel to Bangkok, Thailand and have to uncover the events that led to a face tattoo, the disappearance of the bride’s 16year-old brother and a mysterious drug-dealing monkey. “The stakes are so high in this movie. Kung Fu Panda 2 a ‘passion project’ Sequel gets a new director who was excited to step up to the plate Crew watched kung fu movies in down time ETHAN MILLER/GETTY IMAGES

PHIL BROWN

SCENE@METRONEWS.CA

For anyone with a place in their hearts for kung fu movies and absurdly cute CGI animals, the release of Kung Fu Panda 2 is cause for giddy excitement. The first film was a critical success that also cleaned up at the box office in 2008 and Dreamworks Animation began work on the sequel shortly after it opened in theatres. Jennifer Yuh Nelson was key member of the creative/design team on the original Kung Fu Panda and was promoted to

Jennifer Yuh Nelson

director for this second outing. Speaking to Metro, the filmmaker said she was thrilled to return. “I was always ready to keep going regardless of whether I was the director or not and

a lot of the same group stayed on because everyone loved the first movie so much. It was always a passion project for everyone involved and that continued on the sequel.” Creating a CGI animated film on this scale was a huge undertaking for the director, who worked on the project for three years before it was complete. “We didn’t start seeing finish animated sequences until about a year and a half out,” admitted Nelson. “It trickles in a little at a time and it’s always a shock when you’re working with rough black and white storyboards that you’re used to and then all

of a sudden you see the same scenes in gorgeous colour animation. It’s a big jolt for the crew, because you suddenly realize what the final film will look like.” To help break up the te-

dium during the long production, Nelson said the crew would hold “kung fu movie lunches,” watching an endless list of classic titles in the genre to inspire the vast team of animators.

“We’d watch everything from Drunken Master to Kung Fu Hustle,” said the director. “That’s one of the reasons why these movies aren’t parodies. They are a homage to movies that we all really love.”

Live loud and prosper: Gaga sets example with her unique individuality SCENE@METRONEWS.CA

Rock ’n’ roll and its subgenres have always had an outcast component. Because many of the people making this type of music were misfits growing up, they have occasionally found inspiration in singing about their outsider status. But where The Who sang, “hope I die before I get old,” in their 1965 song, My Generation, singers these days are using a more encouraging tone. Lady Gaga puts her personality on parade by saying that she was Born This Way, and Ke$ha lets her freak flag fly by singing We R Who We R.

As I’ve gotten older, I’m happy I wasn’t like everyone else. And I wanted these kids to have an anthem that expressed that.” Gaga told Metro that she’s seen how the message of Born This Way has moved her younger fans, and when she’s talking about their generation it seems to resonate more. “The new generation is very affected by the lack of equality,” she says. “I noticed I had 12- and 13-year-

No condiments are needed for this high-flavour barbecue-style cheeseburger; they are built right in. For ease — and let’s face it, awesome taste — I took your basic beef burger and mixed in puréed chipotles in adobo sauce, a healthy

In bowl, whisk mayo, mustard powder, honey and vinegar. Add all 3 peppers, toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside. Heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high. In food processor, combine chipotle peppers, barbecue sauce and garlic. Puree until smooth. Transfer to bowl. Add ground beef, 2 ml (1/2 tsp) salt and 1 ml (1/4 tsp) black pepper, mix.

Divide ground beef mixture into quarters. One at a time, form each quarter into a cup in the palm of your hand. Add 50 ml (1/4 cup) of the cheese and a sprinkling of the black olives to the centre of each cup, then push beef over it to completely cover cheese. Carefully form beef into a patty.

I’m a bit of a barbecue weenie. At my house, boy meets grill until mid-fall. Then I wheel my gasfired girl into the garage until Victoria Day. She’s ready to make her 2011 debut this long weekend, and when it comes to picking a wine to match grilled meats, I look for juice that can hold its own against the intensity of the meat, the influence of the marinade and, since I’m a bit of a hamburger aficionado, any condiments I decide to lather on when meat hits bun. Think young, jammy and red. It’s not time to uncork that Bordeaux you’ve had since midway through the last century. Best bets are Californian zinfandel and merlot, Aussie shiraz, Chilean cabernet sauvignon, and for a taste of the Old World, a Barbera d’Asti from Italy’s Piedmont region. In Argentina, barbecue is a way of life and a red like Trapiche’s 2010 Varietals Malbec ($9.00 $11.99) — with dark, blueberry flavour, balanced tannins and spice trail — is a grill match made in Mendoza. Thomas, the favourite to win the Vezina Trophy as the top regular-season goalie, gave up nine goals in the first two games of the series that the Bruins lead 2-1. Seguin made it 2-0 from in-close at 8:12 of the third as the puck trickled between the legs of Lightning goalie Dwayne Roloson and into the net. The 19-year-old Seguin was inserted into the lineup to replace an injured Patrice Bergeron in Game 1 and has seven points overall. David Krejci also scored for the Bruins. Bergeron was back in the lineup after missing two games because of a concussion sustained when he was hit by Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux in the final game of the second round. Krejci was briefly shaken up late in the first when he was hit in the neutral zone by Tampa Bay defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron, who received a minor penalty for elbowing. Both teams were looking to play tighter defence after combining for 18 goals in the first two games. Tampa Bay centre Steven Stamkos said before the game that the Lightning wanted to avoid “run-and-gun hockey.” Boston centre Brad Marchand added that both teams hoped to “buckle down” on defence. Stamkos had three shot as the Lightning outshot Boston 10-8 during the first period. Game 4 is Saturday in Tampa.

At the training camp for Germany’s national women’s football team in Bitburg, not far from the Luxembourg border, there’s a photographer trying to get a shot of the queen of European soccer. Birgit Prinz isn’t playing along. The 33-year-old striker, the most prolific player in FIFA Women’s World Cup history, lets her teammates pose and waits until the circus is over before emerging from the clubhouse. “For me it’s never been about personal goals, Prinz remarks. “It’s always

been about being part of this team. Her English is remarkable given that she rarely encounters an interview in anything other than her mother tongue. Such is the modest nature of acclaim granted to arguably the greatest women’s soccer player in the annals of the game. Prinz, you see, is approaching her fifth World Cup. She has been the champion twice and holds the record for goals scored in World Cup matches with 14. She has played at four Olympics and won the bronze medal three times. For good measure, add three consecutive years as FIFA World Player of the Year from 2003-05 and 208 international matches in 16 years as the German stalwart. Prinz has done it all.

Now she gets to compete in a World Cup at home and take her place as a much appreciated legend in a football-mad nation. “I never had female role models when I was first playing this sport, Prinz admits. “I looked up to the guys who played in the Bundesliga. They were my role models. Girls need role models, too. If I am one now, then that makes me happy. A practising physiotherapist and student of psychology who has been

vocal in promoting the humanitarian aims of FIFA, Prinz has achieved all her goals and then some. Just ask former teammate Stefi Jones, the president and CEO of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 organizing committee. “Birgit is my hero, says Jones. “She’s not as fast as she once was and doesn’t score as much. She just makes everyone around her better. That’s what heroes do, and make no mistake, Prinz is football royalty. She is the undisputed queen of football in this country and probably throughout the world. When she plays against Canada to open the World Cup at Olympic Stadium in Berlin before 70,000 fans, Prinz will finally receive the undivided attention of her loyal subjects.
