Huge cloud of insects descends on Clarence Street City workers use insecticide to disperse swarm

In this photo snapped by bartender James Gallant, bees swarm around bicycles locked near The Black Thorn on Clarence Street in the ByWard Market. The freak swarm, which was eventually dispersed by city workers, caused some to flee and others to order another pint.

Yesterday was a great day to spend on a patio with a drink — and patrons of The Black Thorn in the ByWard Market decided to stay and enjoy themselves, despite the swarm of hundreds of bees nearby. “No one really panicked,” said bartender James Gallant. “We had people stay for an extra round of drinks just to see what would happen.” At about 12:45 yesterday, a swarm of bees “came out of nowhere” and started flying around outside of the restaurant on Clarence Street in the market. “Then they settled down on one of our guest’s bikes and crawled all
