Psychiatric assessment now awaits a High River man arrested after allegedly driving to the set of an Alberta television show with a rifle and 1,000 rounds. Jacob Glas, 21, had previously visited the set of Heartland four times with letters expressing affection for one of the show’s stars, Amber Marshall. Cpl. Allen Busch of the Turner Valley RCMP said a man took a liking to the 23-year-old Marshall on June 12 when she was in a parade in High River, a community not far from where the show is shot. “He felt that her smiles and her waves may have been directed at him and he wanted to continue their relationship from that brief fleeting moment of contact,” Busch said Thursday. After the parade, Busch said,
Charges laid Criminal Harassment. Jacob Glas, originally from Taber, Alta., is charged with careless use of a gun, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and criminal harassment.
the man acquired the first three seasons of the show. Marshall plays the feisty Amy in the homespun CBC series about two sisters and their grandfather who run a horse ranch near Alberta’s picturesque foothills. “He may have been aware of it, but I don’t think he had watched the program previously,” Busch said. The man made several attempts to contact Marshall, Busch said. He showed up on the set at least four times and was turned away.
But when he showed up on Wednesday, security noticed he had a rifle in the front seat of his car. He didn’t point it at anyone, Busch said, “but he told us that he had the rifle with him to show the security guard he was serious.” But a woman in Taber, who identified herself as Glas’ mother, said the allegations do not fit her son’s personality, calling the incident “overrated.” “I don’t think he would hurt anybody,” she said. When asked what Glas would use the rifle for, the woman said, “for shooting gophers or cans.” RCMP had already been investigating the prior three incidents, but only recently got a viable lead, Busch said. After Glas’ assessment is addressed in Calgary court Friday, he will head to Okotoks to face the charges in court. WITH FILES FROM THE CANADIAN PRESS
