The fights and hard hits that often grace the playing surface of the John Labatt Centre are making way for an activity of gentler origin: yoga. Local studio The Yoga Shack will be holding a fundraising event at the JLC on Sunday morning where instructors will lead a community-wide yoga session. “We’re trying to break a record and have London’s largest yoga (class),” said Lisa Shackelton, owner of The Yoga Shack. “Our yoga teachers are all volunteering, so we’ll be breaking the space into segments, so that each of the groups has people watching them for safety.” Those looking for peace and tranquility while posing may be

Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the yoga class runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Enter at Gate 1 of the JLC. All levels welcome, ages 10 and up. Donations are appreciated and go to support Mission Services, which offers emergency shelter, clothing and food to youth and adults. For each $25 donation made online, your name will be entered into a draw for prizes, which include a one-year membership at The Yoga Shack and a family portrait from HRM Photography. ties of the JLC’s sound system and video board. “We’ve got a great playlist that will be coming all through the John Labatt Centre,” Shackelton said. “We do yoga to all types of music — from classical to Ozzy Osbourne to pop to rap to traditional yoga music.” All donations and money raised for the event go to support Mission Services, a cause close to Shackelton’s heart. “During my teen (years), I actually lived at Teen Girls Home, so Mission Services was really there for me and they were a big part of my life,” she said.
