It’s a reunion more than 50 years in the making, but after meeting for the first time, three sisters say they feel like they’ve never left each other’s side. Calgarian Peggie Crookes was the oldest of eight children, and when four of her siblings were adopted out in the 1960s, Crookes said she always wanted to find them. “In a way, I always felt guilty because I felt it was my fault they were adopted because I wasn’t there to look after them,” she said. After years of searching, Crookes was sent a letter in the spring with her sister Lucille Bruce’s contact information. “I had a hard time talking,” said Bruce of the first time Crookes called her. Shortly after receiving the call from Crookes, Bruce said she and their other sister Liz Condie met for the first time in Ontario where they both hail from. “As soon as Lucy and I met, we

Although all three had never been in the same room together, they say there was an instant connection. “It’s just like finding a piece of a puzzle that fell under the chesterfield and you know it’s there and you finally find it and put the last piece in,” said Condie. Crookes added, “It’s like something I should have had all my life but didn’t.”
