The list of participants in Winnipeg’s first-ever We Day includes a former prime minister, Junoaward-winning musicians and groups, Canadian heroes and athletes, sensational motivational speakers, an American actress and a local teen activist Winnipeggers will recognize immediately. The full list will be announced this morning as several performers and speakers will join the already-announced former U.S. vice-president Al Gore at the MTS Centre on We Day on Nov. 23.
The movement was co-founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger, who started the charity Free The Children. Craig Kielburger said the event is more than a one-time inspirational challenge. We Day encourages youth to actively make the world a better place by volunteering their time in a local cause and a global cause during the year. “We actually track this, said Kielburger while on his way to Winnipeg, adding past We Days across Canada have resulted in 1.7 million hours of volunteerism from Canadian youth. The actual event takes all day, but things move along at a quick

clip, said Kielburger. “It’s fun, it’s fast, no one speaker has more than 10 minutes, and the kids have a seat, but they rarely sit. “We plan to make this an annual event in Winnipeg, added Kielburger. Past events have been held in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Waterloo. About 16,000 students and their teachers are expected to attend We Day in Winnipeg. For more information, visit weday.com.
