Dalí Drawings on Display
When the temperatures around Tampa Bay heat up, head inside to cool off in downtown St. Petersburg’s Dalí Museum. On view through October 22, the exhibition Where Ideas Come From: Dalí’s Drawings showcase more than 100 of his works on paper. It’s the first time in more than 35 years that some of the works have been shown to the public. Due to their fragile nature, many of these Dalí paper works will rarely be displayed again. So, now is your chance to view these treasures. The exhibition is organized chronologically from 1916 to 1974. See the progression of Dalí’s works of various media including pencil, pen, charcoal, watercolor and gouache through the four distinct periods of Dalí’s life.
“Drawing is perhaps the most direct way to bring what is in the mind through

the hand and into the world — a critical part of the creative process and one that Dalí was committed to throughout his life,” said Hank Hine, the executive director of The Dalí Museum.
The Early Period shows student sketches, book illustrations, poster designs, self-portraits from Classicism to Cubism and ultimately anti-art. Surrealism showcases a new museum acquisition: Drawings for “Bacchanale”, Ludwig II of Bavaria (1939). Nuclear Mysticism, Classicism and Religion highlights some of the most recognizable works including Tres Picos, The Sacrament of the Last Supper (1955) and Christ of St. John of the Cross (1951). The Late Period includes diverse selections with small studies of The Hallucinogenic Toreador (1969 – 1970) and Galacidalacidesesociribunucleicacid
(Homage to Crick and Watson) (19621963). The section concludes with a self-portrait of Dalí created in 1974. The exhibition was curated by Peter Tush, the curator of education at The Dalí Museum. Along with the exhibition, a catalog of all 166 drawings will accompany the exhibition and serve as a companion to the Dalí Museum’s old paintings catalog published in 2021.

FOR THE LOVE OF CLEAN BEAUTY Amanda Mascaro-Giles, Paradigm Beauty
Born and raised in Tampa, Amanda Mascaro-Giles has a passion for all things beauty. Growing up, Mascaro-Giles loved doing makeup for pageants, formal events and proms. At her parents urging, she pursued a traditional career path earning her degree and becoming a registered nurse at Tampa General Hospital.
With over 10 years in healthcare, she has combined her knowledge of the healthcare industry and research capabilities into opening a clean and non-toxic beauty retail shop in South Tampa, Paradigm Beauty. “I never saw a focus on prevention of how we were becoming so ill in the first place,” said Mascaro-Giles. “Propelled by my own health journey, I began researching every ingredient, every chemical and the ways the products that we use daily are made.”
To her surprise, there are hardly any regulations on what is allowed inside beauty products. With over 9 years of product
research, Paradigm Beauty carries over 75 different brands. “There is no such thing as perfection, but if your mind is at ease trusting that the products you are using are nourishing and enriching for you, I just hope that trickles down into other aspects of your life,” adds Mascaro-Giles. “It starts with skincare in the morning, then leads you to make a healthier breakfast decision, which develops into taking the stairs, instead of the elevator. These small steps will hopefully lead to a happier and healthier you!”
METRO had a chance to catch up with Mascaro-Giles and feel her passion for clean beauty.
METRO: How did you come up with name of your company?
Mascaro-Giles: I constantly found myself saying “there needs to be a paradigm shift in the way we think of beauty”. We want to totally change the mindset that clean beauty is synonymous with bland, underper-
forming products that lack the same sophistication as conventional beauty. Clean beauty and luxury are no longer paradoxical. These products are outperforming traditional products on a consistent basis.
METRO: What was your inspiration for opening Paradigm Beauty?
Mascaro-Giles: My inspiration was really my sister, Frenchi. She wanted to try clean beauty products before buying online, but there wasn’t a place to do that. I opened Paradigm Beauty because I wanted to make it simple for people to transition to clean beauty I want them to be able to have a tailored shopping experience in a chic-elevated setting.
METRO: What is so important about clean beauty products?
Mascaro-Giles: The most important thing about clean beauty products is how they make you feel. Ingredients that can jeopardize your health especially without your knowledge can be terrifying. Constantly wondering if your skincare is helping or hurting you is mentally exhausting. Paradigm Beauty does not have a “clean section”, our entire store is clean. Each product has been vetted for transparency, sustainability, and performance, so the guess work has been taken out.
METRO: Any favorite products?
Mascaro-Giles: I’m a sunscreen fanatic! Saint Jane Luxury Sun Ritual is my absolute favorite product. I love a product that has more than one quality. This sunscreen hydrates the skin, has an SPF of 30, is a primer for makeup, and completely blurs and minimizes the look of pores. I also love FitGlow Beauty Foundation+ Vegan Foundation. I wear it almost daily, it stays on for over 12 hours and makes my skin look flawless. The Roen Beauty Cake Lash Mascara makes my eyelashes so long they touch my eyebrows and never drips under my eyes no matter how long I’m wearing it. The Rituel de Fille Crunchy Jelly Oil Cleansing Balm makes it super simple for me to take off my makeup without all the tugging and rubbing. The candles by Malibu Apothecary are so yummy, I always have one burning at the store!

Local Event Designer and Planner, FrankLynn Visual Marketing (FLVM) Creates Dazzling Experiences
By Ronda M. Parag
FrankLynn Visual Marketing (FLVM) has been creating bold, unique experiences connecting people and places for over twenty years. With a talent for dazzling visual design and a full-service event production team, FLVM imagines elegant, lively, and unique experiences that spark the senses and tap into the power of connection.
“Gathering together is important. We believe that great events can transcend the celebratory moment and live on forever to deliver lasting connections and memories,’ says Frank Clemente, Creative Director of FLVM.
“You can never go back and celebrate
your 60th once it’s long gone,” adds Clemente. “You can’t bring the key players of your company together to celebrate a year of success when the energy has passed and fizzled. So instead, plan and execute celebrations that are marked as “forever reminders” of joy for yourself and your invited connections.”
FLVM listens to their client’s desires and hones in on the big picture with a measured approach that is deliberate, and that captures the core essence of the specific personality and event goals. As a result, their experiences are visually creative, unique, and uncommon.
“We understand that the big picture can only be realized through the precise execution of all assets and touch points and strive to curate signature events that are unconventional yet familiar,” says Clemente. “The magic of a good party is that you are transported back to the time and place just by recalling the memory.” M
What will make your event rise above the overloaded and noisy world to create lasting connections and memories?

THE NEW STARS IN THE DINING SCENE
By Mary Lou Janson
For too long Tampa Bay’s culinary community has been on the lookout, waiting for stars to fall their way. Not just any stars, but those annually awarded to the world’s best restaurants based on reviews by anonymous diners representing the prestigious MICHELIN Guide* .
It seemed the stars would never align in Tampa’s favor until a formal announcement at an invitation-only event held in Miami this May. Three restaurants now proudly comprise Tampa’s inaugural induction into the ranks of MICHELIN Star * recipients.
Comprising that starstruck trio are:
KOYA , an intimate restaurant nestled in South Tampa’s Hyde Park neighborhood
LILAC , the signature restaurant of The Tampa EDITION Hotel on Water Street
ROCCA , located across from the Armature Works waterfront in Tampa Heights
35 WWW.TAMPABAYMETRO.COM
No longer resigned to star gazing, each of these honored eateries are now known worldwide for “High quality cooking, worth a stop!”
In other words, star grazing.
“Earning a MICHELIN star has been a great achievement and honor. It represents all of the hard work and effort we have put in over the last three years at Koya. Having Koya in the MICHELIN Guide puts us on the map with other prestigious restaurants from around the world and will hopefully draw some international customers into Tampa who follow the guide closely,” said Eric Fralick, head chef of both Koya and Noble Rice, which he co-owns with wife Adriana Fralick.
A recent Bon Appétit article highlighting Florida’s MICHELIN-starred eating and drinking establishments observed, “Receiving a star from Michelin is perhaps the most coveted
Bonsack. “People tell you to keep doing what you did to get there, but you have to get little better each day. Now the real work begins.”
The globally revered stars are awarded based on five criteria: quality of the ingredients used, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in his cuisine, value for the money and consistency between visits, according to the MICHELIN Guide’s website.
“When you go to a MICHELIN rated restaurant there is an expectation of a personality and singular focus that is not in any way cookie cutter,” said Fraser whose career spans 25 years. “We definitely have a voice and I hope that it shows up in the food.”
accomplishment in the restaurant world.”
“We haven’t even been open a year yet and are already getting recognized with a MICHELIN star,” marveled renowned chef and restauranteur John Fraser who opened Lilac in downtown Tampa last October. Not only was Lilac among the elite group of Tampa’s star-worthy dining spots, the restaurant was the sole recipient of the 2023 Michelin Guide Florida Service Award
“We worked really hard to set up a structure and a team that knows what to do and is very guest- and hospitality-focused,” Fraser said, noting the star is awarded to the restaurant, rather than the chef.
“This is a really big deal, not just nationally but on a world stage,” said chef, and Rocca owner, Bryce
The single-star bearers based in Tampa are as diverse as they are deserving of this honor.
Koya offers a multi-course tasting menu featuring fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables flown in weekly from the famed Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo. Eight diners seated nightly Wednesday through Saturday are introduced upon arrival to the evening’s menu that begins with an amuse bouche, or “handshake” course and progresses through to dessert, each element showcasing a creative approach to Japanese cuisine. “Dishes are often unexpected, yet always thoughtful,” MICHELIN notes.
At Lilac, Chef Fraser combines influences from his Greek heritage and fondness for Turkish cuisine with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create a

fine dining experience at Tampa’s first 5-Star rated hotel. His star-studded career includes maintaining MICHELIN star status for eight consecutive years at Dovetail, as well as receiving a star at NIX, both restaurants rooted in New York City. Lilac’s food features “Mediterranean influences, Florida-focused ingredients and French techniques,” per MICHELIN.
Rocca, known for pastas made in house, and mozzarella hand pulled to order and served from a tableside cart, is named for a family Bonsack lived
“It opens a different type of diner’s eyes to the restaurant, possibly, and to Tampa at large. Guest spends typically increase when you are recognized by MICHELIN. There is a trust associated with the award and when people trust you, they spend more,” noted Fraser. “Folks are willing to travel more broadly in order to get a great meal whether it is to have that experience, or to celebrate a special occasion.”
For anyone considering, or pursuing, a culinary career, firsthand familiarity with establishments boasting MICHELIN, and other credentials is advised.
Fraser recalls as a young cook he spent “all of his money eating at other people’s restaurants, and making notes while trying to understand “the why and the what of what they were trying to do, as well as, what was working and what didn’t for me.”
For Bonsack, there is no substitute for working alongside accomplished chefs.
with and worked for over several seasons as he traversed the northern regions of Italy. His immersion in Italian food focused on traditional cooking techniques authentic to that area. Bonsack previously worked at two MICHELIN starred New York City restaurants, Blanca and Corton. It’s a background that “blends his New York know-how with Italian training to great effect,” MICHELIN notes.
The cache carried by a MICHELIN star benefits not only a restaurant’s bottom line and bolsters a chef’s reputation. It can even elevate the host city, nurturing its notoriety as an in-demand dining destination.
“We were always a hard reservation to get, but the volume of phone calls tripled. And this is normally a slow time of year for the restaurant. It has been a financial boost for the staff and for the investment team,” said Bonsack, who opened Rocca in 2019. “MICHELIN is a brand. It is obviously a powerful statement to be associated with the brand and I am grateful for that association.”
“But now the real work has begun. You realize this is a marathon and not a sprint,” he added.
“You can’t learn everything in a book. You really need the experience you get from working work in multiple places. I did a lot of internships at two- and three-star MICHELIN restaurants. You need that mindset instilled in you. Go get that discipline. And then train, train, train. Don’t worry about money. That will come later. Learn what you can and it will come,” Bonsack said.
Chef Fralick sums up the accolade as follows:
“To earn a MICHELIN star it takes an incredible amount of hard work, creativity and a drive for perfection. Every service has to be better than the last. It means never being complacent in all that you do and always trying to improve day in and day out.” M

A Modern Farmhouse Designed For All

Interior Design: Crespo Design Group

Combining stylish and sophisticated features with décor selected for functionality and practicality created a home that makes a great impression on guests while also providing comfort and durability for its occupants, a family of seven plus three dogs.
Enrique Crespo, principal of Crespo Design Group and his senior designer Lisa, worked closely with the newly constructed home’s developer, Steven Anthony Luxury Homes, from initial concepts to final finishes to conceive a family-friendly residence filled with flair.
“The owners wanted a beautiful home that would be resilient enough to take the daily wear and tear from the family while reflecting a refined, farmhouse modern style,” Crespo said. Embracing that aesthetic resulted in creating a look and lifestyle for both entertaining and everyday needs. A sleekly designed, open kitchen allows interaction with guests while also providing the perfect vantage point for keeping children within view.
“The kitchen features an urban floor plan. It’s a place where lots of different functions can be going on but

the parents can watch the kids whether they are in the pool or the family room,” he added.
Walls accented with wainscoting, tray ceilings displaying exposed beams, an entire room’s walls displaying a handprinted mural and floors constructed from oil-finished French white oak hardwood enhance the elegance of the interior while large, inviting sectionals, playful bean bag chairs and sturdy, made-to-order bunk beds add an easy-living element.
Two of the residence’s more kidcentric spaces include an upstairs playroom where family and friends can gather to view movies and play video

games. A mudroom on the main floor offers the perfect landing spot for whatever gets discarded after walking through the front door — school backpacks, sports gear, shoes and jackets. It’s even outfitted with charging stations for cell phones and storage space for pet food and supplies.
For the adults, Crespo fashioned a primary bedroom and bathroom where both parents can fully disconnect from the demands of their hectic lives. From the artistically framed four-poster bed and soothing color palette to the inviting soaking tub and over-sized walk-in shower, it is clear that this space is reserved for relaxation.

Furnishings crafted from selected woods and featuring bursts of bright color or bold patterns add to the allure of the main floor’s indoor/outdoor space, whether it is vibrant portrayals of Asian warriors featured on the powder room wallpaper or an office chair covered in a vivid Jokhang tiger print from the luxury collection of Schumacher fabrics that is paired with a Burl wood desk.
“(The wife) loves color and is adventurous and open to trying new things, not to overpower the house with color, but to give the family fun areas because they are a young family,” said Crespo.
Using color to convey playfulness is evidenced in the formal dining room where walls featuring flowers painstakingly painted against a backdrop of various shades of gray and dramatic drapes in that same shade of chartreuse definitely lighten the mood.

Design Elements Create The Ultimate Sleeping Chambers
Creating the design for a relaxing bedroom retreat was a unique one for Bee Studios. The home was purchased by two physicians moving to St. Petersburg from out of state. They purchased the home site unseen and only stepped foot in the house one time before the design project began. The husband travels weeks at a time. And the wife works for the US Army and was to be stationed overseas during the commencement of the project. “In fact, our first virtual design presentation she tuned in from Bulgaria,” recalls Brooke Eversoll, Designer and Owner of Bee Studios.
“It was important for us to create a true retreat for this couple, so after longs months of being away, they could come home to a comfortable, luxurious, and restful oasis,” said Eversoll.
The only element that stayed from the original room were the maple wood floors that flowed throughout the home. The design request called for dark dramatic walls and an oversized headboard.
“Designing a custom bed was a fun challenge due the asymmetrical wall/ window placement,” said Eversoll. “We designed the upholstered and wood bed to extend further to the left, chose
two matching nightstands in different sizes, and added draperies to the right window for balance. The beauty of the bed came in with a custom walnut architectural piece with integrated lighting and slatted vertical components. We engaged a local furniture maker to bring this piece to life for our client. The bed was dressed in rich indigo sheets, soft neutrals, and pops of pattern. The last element to anchor this asymmetrical design were two mid-mod pendants to bring the whole wall together.”
In the corner next to the small window was an odd placed closet from the original builder. “The original idea

was to create a small bar, but instead the couple opted for a makeup area for her,” said Eversoll. “We loved designing this makeup space to blend in with the dark moody walls. We chose an illuminated oval brass mirror and patterned swivel stool for contrast in this area.”
The wall color selected was Seaworthy by Sherwin Williams. This was the perfect blend of deep blue with the slightest undertone of green. To balance the light maple floors, Eversoll introduced a delicate wood inlay wall covering by Phillip Jefferies for the tray ceiling. Rich luxurious draperies with blackout shades created the ultimate
sleeping chambers.
The two areas of the room, bed and seating area were defined by rug groupings. An oversized textured soft wool rug is perfect to step out of bed onto. The smaller seating group got more of a pattern and color play pulling in the rich blues and coppers. Other style elements include a custom chaise, cocktail table, reading lamp, and pretty round port hole inspired mirror.
The project goal was to create a moody and restful space with oversized architectural elements.
The clients love of nautical elements in a modern and subtle way served as inspiration. M

3 Healthy Summertime Habits To Protect Your Skin
By Family Features
As the first line of defense against the outside world, skin is the body’s largest organ and takes on an important role in maintaining overall health. While products like sunscreen and moisturizer can help skin thrive, healthy skin starts from within where food and beverage choices can play a key role.
One example is grapes: Emerging research suggests consuming grapes may help protect healthy skin even when exposed to UV light, which is known to be damaging. A study published in the journal “Antioxidants,” in which people consumed 2 1/4 cups of grapes every day for two weeks, showed increased resistance to sunburn and reduced markers of UV damage at the cellular level.
This study reinforced previous and similar findings published in the “Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.” Grapes are also a hydrating food with 82 percent water content;
hydration is essential to healthy skin.
To take care of your skin, consider these skin-friendly health tips.
Protect Skin While Outdoors
While perhaps an obvious step to some, one of the most direct ways you can protect skin is by applying sunscreen – most experts recommend 30 SPF or higher – before heading outdoors and reapplying every 1-2 hours. Additionally, consider wearing protective clothing, such as a hat large enough to shade your face and neck. If you plan to spend extended time in the sun, opt for a lightweight, long-sleeve shirt and pants for maximum skin coverage.
Eat Healthy, Hydrating Foods
Nutritious foods, including fruits and vegetables, can play an important role in achieving an overall balanced diet with adequate hydration. Enjoying the goodness of fresh or frozen Grapes from California can provide extra hydration
and a boost of beneficial antioxidants and other polyphenols that help protect the health and function of the body’s cells, including those in the skin.
Drink water throughout the day, and for added flavor, infuse with fruits like frozen grapes. Simply rinse, pat dry, remove from the stems and freeze the grapes for 2 hours in a single layer on a sheet pan for flavorful ice cube replacements.
Manage Stress
Whether it’s caused by a lengthy to-do list or general anxieties, stress can negatively impact skin health while even exacerbating certain conditions. Managing stress can offer a reprieve in multiple ways, including encouraging healthier skin. Some simple ways to relieve stress include exercising, getting enough sleep, lightening or limiting your workload, scaling back on to-do lists and making time for things you enjoy. M

Bring on the Sun & Fun
W Fort Lauderdale | By Stephen Parag, II
It may only be a four hour drive or a quick 45 minute plane ride, but the east coast of Florida is like a world away from the Tampa Bay area. It’s a chic and glamorous destination and ready for a fun time, or to simply soak in the sun on the sugar-white sand beaches. We recently escaped to Fort Lauderdale for a little relaxation and to check-out the area. A stay at the W Fort Lauderdale offers a captivating experience with both it’s dazzling design and impeccable service, and the allure of the beachfront location on Fort Lauderdale Beach. With 517 guest rooms and suites, the W Fort Lauderdale has an array of amenities and services. The W is also know for it’s Whatever/ Whenever service to provide guests whatever they desire during their stay. Each room offers floor to ceiling windows with views of the Atlantic Ocean or Intracoastal waterway. The private balcony is the ideal spot to enjoy a glorious sunrise or sunset.
The hotel offers two sparkling rooftop pools for rest and relaxation, or some energy and excitement. The East pool offers transparent pool walls and is a great place for an Instagram photo. Weekends you will find a pool party with
a DJ mixing up tunes. Grab a book and seek the shade of an umbrella or day bed to relax the day away at the West pool. Soothe those muscles or get a pampering facial at the AWAY Spa. Get active with a workout in 24-hour FIT gym, the state-ofthe-art fitness center or enjoy daily beach workouts of yoga or bootcamp that will get the body moving. Explore the area around the resort on a white or pink cruiser bicycle that is included.
The W is dog friendly and welcomes dogs up to 45 lbs in any of the guest rooms, Living Room, Living Room Terrace and patios of the two restaurants — El Vez and Steak 954. Included are a plush in-room doggie bed, bark box, curated doggie menu, in-room food and water bowls and a supply of doggie pick up bags.
No need to leave the property for dining as the property hosts an award-winning Steak 954 from restauranteur Stephen Starr or a more casual Mexican eatery with lounge seating and patio space. The Living Room offers up nightly entertainment from games to live music. It’s great for people watching, enjoying a crafted cocktail or light bite to eat.
A healthy dining option was SoBe Vegan that offers up healthy fare including
smoothies, bowls and a delicious avocado toast. It was a great way to start the day with a nutritious meal.
To get some culture, we headed to the NSU Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale to explore the museum showcasing more than 6,000 art pieces. The museum is known for its significant collection of Latin American art, contemporary art with an emphasis on art by Black, Latinx and women artists, African art from the 19th to 21st century, as well as works by American artist William Glackens and European Cobra group of artists.
Be sure to checked out Sistrunk Market Place & Brewery for lunch or dinner with it’s food hall and urban market place offering a range of dining options from sushi to tacos, to Italian and Korean flavors. The venue hosts fun experiences and offers classes, special events and more. Don’t miss the distillery tour. Stroll the The FATVillage Arts District nearby offering a variety of art galleries and street art.
Whether you choose to just chill at the W Fort Lauderdale or explore the area, there are lots of places to discover in Fort Lauderdale and we will certainly return for more exploration and fun. M

Simply Elevated Dining
In the heart of the Water Street neighborhood in downtown Tampa, Boulon Brasserie and its Boulon Bakery welcome guests morning, noon and night. The concept created by Next Level Brands opened in January 2023 to much excitement. Boulon is the 2nd concept from Next Level Brands whose partners include Jeff Gigante, Andrew Wright and Joseph Guggino, and are changing the landscape of Tampa Bay’s dining scene. The French-inspired bistro has a chic interior that is comfortable, yet sophisticated with the bar that spans the length of the dining room. Al Fresco dining is available on the patio covered with large bistro umbrellas and greenery. The
kitchen is now under the direction of Executive Chef Fernando Sanchez, while Pastry Chef Summer Bailey handles the Boulon Bakery, and all things sweet.
The menu focuses on locally sourced ingredients, fresh seafood and modern interpretations of French classics. Great menu starters include Escargots En Croûte with garlic herb butter, Blue Crab Beignets and Shrimp Nola. The Onion Soup Gratinée is also delicious with its flavorful broth and cheesy crusted top. Main dishes that we particularly enjoyed were the Scallop Risotto, Duck Confit and the Steak Frites that can be served with a Filet, NY Strip or vegetarian option of Cauliflower Steak.
Feeling indulgent? The menu has caviar service with Kaluga Hybrid or Ossetra priced by the ounce served with brioche, blinis, crème fraîche, egg, shallot and chive.
When the Lightning are playing or there is an event at Amalie Arena, Boulon is center stage. It’s the prefect spot to gather for a crafted cocktail and dinner before heading to the game or concert. Or meet up with friends, or meet new ones, with a post-game celebratory drink.
Boulon is meant to be a gathering place where good food, good wine and better company come together, we think they have succeeded. M
