Savoir-faire Hamilton Conte creations are the fruit of an alliance between designers and artisans, all of whom are passionate about their craft. Products are manufactured with great care and adapted to the individual needs of each client. Taking advantage of ancestral techniques of its production base in Portugal, Hamilton Conte unites design with craftsmanship. “For me, luxury today is about being able to work with craftsmen, taking the time to care about details as well as pleasure in doing so,” says Fabian Pellegrinet Conte. The Collection The Hamilton Conte collection offers all elements of an interior space: furniture, seating, lighting, objets d’art... The creations are an extension of the lives of the two founders and reflect their passion for storytelling. Some models, for example, carry the names of inspirational people while others are nods to anecdotes or places from their lives. “My father’s name was Enzo and he loved to take his cognac in comfortable and enveloping chair. Our wing chair with the same name was designed bearing this memory in mind,” comments Fabian Pellegrine Conte. There is a story behind every creation and each client integrates this within his or her own story, just as much through personal affinity as through the choice of materials and finishings.

PEEK
Architecture + Design Ltd
Classic Proportions For Modern Living
properties, and Georgina was recently the lead Architect on Margaret Thatcher’s former grade II listed residence at Chester Square, London. The majority of the practice’s projects are the restoration and development of central London period buildings, so given the opportunity to develop a new build in a traditional style, an opportunity to imprint the lessons learned through years of examining these beautiful examples was realised.
When Georgina Turvey from PEEK Architecture + Design was faced with the empty site near Richmond, she was given a brief to create a classic and traditional new house, undertaking the planning permissions to the construction, interiors and furnishing. Having the design intent for the interiors devised at the very start, means the scheme has a coherence and flow, everything having its perfect place and geometry. The house ‘Wildcroft’ is approached via a grand wrought iron gate, and stone steps lead up from the pedestrian gate to the grand front porch, with balcony above. Georgina invested time on the selection of the stone and brick for the exterior, with the brick being chosen so that it was the best match to Georgian red brick.
The land Wildcroft is sited on, is quite uniqe. To the North stand beautiful, ancient trees, with Richmond Park just beyond. To the South there are far reaching views over green spaces, towards Wimbledon common from the elevated position. The proximity to Richmond and Kew was the inspiration for the formal dining room, with lush green plants on display in the centre of the antique round table (from Elizabeth James Antiques). From the outset, the strategy for the interiors was integral to the scheme, and the layout was formulated with the more formal spaces to the front of the house, and the open plan kitchen in an additional wing to the rear. PEEK Architecture are experienced in the restoration of heritage
The objective was to create a home inspired by perfect Georgian proportions, symmetry and space, but to house modern living and to be as energy efficient as possible. It was paramount that light and circulation were considered in all aspects of the design. The vertical axis of the house is also key, and when entering through the front door, the eyes are drawn up the large stone, staircase leading to the landings above. A triple height space is created from the void between stairs and landings, with a large glazed lantern rooflight over. The hallway is tiled in White Emperdor marble with a 2 tone trim consisting of Grey Marquina and Fumed Emperador to the perimeter, following the curve of the stairs (from Mandarin Stone). The stair balustrade is made from raw metal spindles and a natural oak handrail, by Crafted Handrails (www.craftedhandrails.co.uk)
11 The interior strategy aimed to be classic and well fabricated, using traditional construction methods for plasterwork, tiling, joinery and paneling. The main contractors, Cross Construction (www.crossconstruction.co.uk) installed the painted paneling on site, with the built in joinery being made and installed by local firm, Fine Edge Designs (www.fineedgedesigns.co.uk) For the furnishing of the project and the artworks selected, Georgian motifs and style were an inspiration. The pineapple motif is featured several times, harking back to the times of Joseph Paxton and the pineapple as a symbol of hospitality. Botanical pictures adorn walls framed by paneling and architectural details, and contemporary art work from James Cooper is featured in the cinema room and master bedroom. The ground floor ceilings are 3.4m tall, while the first floor is 3m. The bedroom
and bathrooms of the second floor are housed in a tall mansard roof, again with generous ceilings. The more formal spaces to the ground floor also feature a grid design ceiling. To match the proportions of the rooms, bespoke raised and fielded doors were commissioned. As well as the doors, all joinery including the kitchen was designed and drawn by Georgina, and installed by the joiners then site painted. Bathrooms were designed with classical fixtures and paneled walls. The master ensuite has an Arebescato, tiled floor with matching herringbone walls in the huge double shower. Lefroy Brooks fttings compete the luxury look. The ground floor houses a study, drawing room, formal dining room, large guest wc, kitchen and family room, larder, utility and cinema/playroom. The garage can also be accessed directly from the house, and a separate staircase leads to generous
accommodation above, with a kitchenette and designated shower room, ideal for a multitude of functions. The initial rooms are accessed via symmetrical double doors from the hallway. To one side, the study has a full height library wall constructed in grey oak, and painted paneled walls. The furnishings are mid century style, with a teak drinks trolley found from 20th Century Furnishing, and a vintage tan leather Eames chair sits comfortably behind the glass and metal ‘Kipling’ desk by Andrew Martin. The drawing room has no less than six windows and french doors, with views of the gardens, washing this south facing room in light. A grand stone fireplace from Marble Hill, sits on the opposite wall, and the room is accessed via 2 sets of substantial paneled doors. The walls are again paneled to half height, and the
ceiling is punctuated by the grid design. Georgina wanted to avoid the typical neutral look for this project, so accent colours, and an eclectic use of accessories give the scheme a homely feel. The pendant and wall lights are from Circa Lighting, in a polished nickel finish. Beyond the drawing room, is access to the large kitchen. This space is housed beneath a vaulted ceiling, clad in painted timber complete with rooflights. The kitchen joinery is designed bespoke by PEEK Architecture. The kitchen worktops are beautiful ‘Calacatta Brazil’ stone from MGLW in battersea, complete with marble splashbacks. The room also houses a dining and lounging area to the far end. The multitude of glazing, such as the rooflights and French doors, give this space an orangery feel. A sizeable larder is situated off the kitchen, with full height shelving and wine racks. The dining table is in tactile pine, from Sweetpea & Willow,
and the dining chairs are in an industrial metal finish, from Baker & Stonehouse. A modern gas ribbon fire defines the lounging area, clad in the same Bateig Beige tiles as the floor. Off of the central hallway to the rear is the luxurious guest wc, with black and white rustic marble floor, deep blue walls (‘Hague Blue’ by Farrow and Ball).Tall walnut joinery provides storage, and the sink sits within a marble vanity unit. The formal dining room, which is central to the front door, is at the end of the ground floor hall, in a more intimate location. Full height, painted paneling clad the walls, and large windows flank the rear wall creating a large bay. The terrace to the rear, is enclosed by the kitchen and family space to one side, and the formal reception the other, both with large French doors lining the walls.
13
The grand staircase leads up to a master suite and two guest bedrooms with ensuites. The second floor consists of 4 futher bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The stair runner is a grey herringbone carpet ‘Westons Natural Weave 870-5’ with a blue canvas edge, which sits well against the grey oak and stone of the stairs. The master bedroom can be accessed by 2 doors due to its size, and has a thick dark grey carpet from Carpet Supplies London, with half height paneled walls in ‘Purbeck Stone’ by Farrow and Ball. The large emperor size bed is from the English Bed Co. and is upholstered in ‘Harbour Linen’. One can sit at the mango wood dressing table on a retro style, gold wire dressing table chair is from Out There Interiors, and gaze out to the garden beyond. The master dressing room is in grey paneled oak, and this leads through to the light and bright master ensuite. Bedroom two and three are just as luxurious and sizeable, complete with large ensuites for both. Wildcroft achieves a classic and period inspired new build, without the pastiche nature of many others. The layout and interior principles, stay true to the Georgian ideals, and the end result is a timeless piece of architecture and interior design. HermanMiller For many, the company Herman Miller is synonymous with the office – in particular the ground-breaking Aeron chair which changed the face of office seating when it was launched in 1994, and continues to roll off the production line at a rate of one every 17 seconds. While Aeron was unique in many ways, the approach to its design was far from revolutionary. The ground work began with the first Director of Design for Herman Miller, George Nelson who held the position from 1946 to 1972. During his tenure, George Nelson defined a set of principles that have guided the company ever since: what we make is important; design is an integral part of the business; the product must be honest; we decide what we make; there is a market for good design. Putting this philosophy into action, Nelson launched the Herman Miller Collection in 1948 which he described as ‘a permanent collection designed to meet fully the requirements for modern living.’ The Herman Miller Collection has been through various iterations since its inception, but a key element is the continual showcase of designers who share the company’s values and attitudes. With that in mind the current Collection presents updated archival pieces alongside new designs from today’s top talent – bridging Herman Miller’s past, present and future. You’ll find designs from the 1940s onwards juxtaposed with pieces from the present day – seen together in every environment, these designs, whether they are by Isamu Noguchi, Ward Bennett or BassamFellows, all speak the same language, and all reflect those design principles set out by George Nelson. Each piece in the Herman Miller Collection requires a delicate balance between craft and industrial process. The Collection uses the latest technology and newest materials available, but it remains grounded in the quality and value produced by the thoughtfulness, and individual human touches of the workers who assemble many of its pieces by hand. Alongside this are the materials used for each product. State-of-the-art textiles build on decades of learning and investigation, with carefully chosen materials that use new processes or embrace the ties to our design heritage. Whether it is the designer, production or materials, each offering serves the product and the user while also innovatively exemplifying the Collection’s DNA: practical beauty. www.hermanmiller.co.uk/collection

Elliott Barnes On 1st Dibs Interior designer Elliott Barnes is selling a selection of his exquisite furniture and decorative designs via luxury online retailer 1stDibs for the first time. Elliott Barnes’s creative process is prompted by a stream of consciousness uniting the common denominators of often imperceptible details and peculiarities from various possibilities and impossibilities. It explores the familiar and the popular and through narrative and abstraction proposes objects that simultaneously feel recognizable yet novel. The openness of his approach has created unique modern narrative
solutions for apartments, villas, hotels, restaurants, and clubs all over the world, as well as furniture collections that have been met with international acclaim. As a result, each one of his projects stands on its own. Visually speaking, Elliott’s work is of its time. Even though some details of his objects and may reference or incorporate elements from other periods and styles, the overall feeling is resolutely contemporary. The key to his expression is rooted in refined detailing. The correct articulation and arrangement of details gives a voice to any object. Elliott selects materials in a way
"The River of Time" Screen by Elliott Barnes for Philippe Hurel, Special Edition A masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, the giant abacus “The Rivers of Time” (“Les Rivi res du Temps”) is a special edition work created for the AD Collections 2015 exhibition in Paris at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, Quai d’Orsay. This exclusive piece is based upon a work of the same name that is part of the “Une Apr s Midi de Paresse” collection designed by Elliott Barnes for Philippe Hurel and launched in the spring of 2015. In a stained chestnut frame, with a pink gold finished brass base, this screen transforms a decorative screen into a game. 78 spheres are distributed on eleven brass with pink gold finish supports: 12 spheres are in Saint-Laurent marble, 20 spheres are in blue blown-glass, 20 spheres are in bird’s eye poplar, 6 spheres are in bright white lacquered wood, 20 spheres are in natural walnut. that connects a work to a place, a moment or an emotion, while simultaneously leaving room for his creations to stand the test of time. Recently, Elliott has begun to use the acronym ACT (art, craft & technology) in reference to the execution of his furniture and objects. He confesses to being preoccupied by the ‘formal’ beauty of things - their practicality, their technicality, their functionality and thus, their beauty. He is a firm believer that the harmonization of these qualities results in work that is perennial.

RMGB Rue d’Aboukir Paris – 120 m2 Contemporary duplex apartment, completely renovated. The upper part of the duplex consists of a large living room bringing together the kitchen, dining room and living room. It was necessary to connect all three living spaces in order to create a harmonious and bright ensemble. The same color was used for the wall and flooring for this level. Upon entering the apartment is the kitchen area. The kitchen furniture was designed as blocks of different sizes and materials forming an abstract landscape. The extension of these blocks leads into the dining room with a custom-made bench and a small library in smoked black glass. The living room is built around a long black marble bench. The selected furniture pieces are deliberately compact, functioning as satellites making it easy to reconfigure the layout. A ladder gives access to the mezzanine which was designed as a colorful interlude in the apartment. There is also a guest bedroom and a small spare bathroom The lower level of the duplex, just like the upper level, has only one colour for the wall and flooring throughout. The colour is a warmer dimmer gray with a Solunite resin floor in the same tone. The original exposed beams were treated with a natural varnish to create a warm atmosphere. A long corridor leads to the bathroom, dressing room and bedroom of the owners...

is designed as a cube in black smoked glass. The dressing room is in light wood paneling welcoming a niche whose sliding base opens up to a hidden television. On the first floor, the girl’s bedroom is decorated in light and warm tones. The bathroom is in all cement coating, with the bathtub Vieques by Patricia Urquoila. In the parents’ bedroom is a large oak door with a gloss lacquer finish subtly reflecting the other materials used: a tinted gray oak for the flooring, walnut for the large dressing room that extends into the bathroom with the basin in Corian.
All these spaces lead to the ground floor where two strongly pronounced atmospheres confront one another. The entrance of the house to the kitchen has a very contemporary feel decorated in dark tones with Solunite resin flooring and carpentry components in (stained) birch (particularly the small desk made from natural birch). This meets an ambiance that is more bourgeois with a large living room / dining room with mouldings and herringbone parquet flooring. To make a transition between these two atmospheres, a huge bay window opens up the entire exterior of the house overlooking the garden.

RMGB The RMGB agency, located in the Sentier neighborhood in Paris, was created after Baptiste Rischmann accepted an internship at the contemporary furniture showroom, FR66, on Rue de Renard in Paris, where Guillaume Gibert was working at the time. Prior to this encounter, both had followed different paths: Guillaume, originally from Marseille, studied cabinetry before studying at LISAA in Paris, a school for interior design and design. Baptiste, originally from Toulouse, graduated from ENSAD in Paris with a science degree, far from that of applied arts. From this partnership they began to confront their common interests and inspirations for design and architecture discovering the works of the masters: looking to designers Jasper Morrison, Achille Castiglioni, Stefan Diez, and the Bourroullec brothers, and architects John Pawson, Sanaa, François Champsaur, and Studio KO. Through these inspiring mentors, they developed a real sense for detail which is evident in all of their projects thus far. “Anything that can spark interest before our eyes is the source of an idea. This is often lies in the details: a well thought out ensemble, a unique material,
whether in architecture, fashion or even a plate in a restaurant...” Their first big project was the renovation of the old JOB cigarette rolling paper factory into a loft on Rue d’Hautpoul in Paris. What soon followed were new projects in Paris and surrounding provinces. RMGB’s creative philosophy holds craftsmanship in the highest regard creating interior spaces that combine different materials by playing with their appearance, color, texture, focusing on elements that evoke emotion. One of RMGB’s main initiatives is to introduce and integrate craftsmanship within globally contemporary works, whether in private homes or future public projects. "Architecture has something unique and static, while design can multiply and evolve.” RMGB’s signature style is refined, sharp and contemporary which reigns through every project. The agency is currently working on several private projects , the showroom of a furniture dealer along with a series of pieces for the Great Design Gallery that were presented at the furniture fair in Milan this past April 2015. Italian Manufacturer Novellini
is proud to announce that in January 2016 Novellini Group is 50! It is now half a century since founder Mr Gianfranco Novellini started production from a small workshop in Mantova in the January of 1966. 50 years on Gianfranco is survived by his children Marco and Barbara Novellini who are guiding and building upon their father’s legacy Novellini Group, into 21st century. Still based in Mantova, Italy, Novellini is now the World’s largest independent producer and manufacturer of shower enclosures, steam cabins, baths, whirlpools and shower trays with a current workforce of over 900 employees worldwide.
In the last decade Novellini has made significant investments into environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and continues to strive towards ever more sustainable holistic production and distribution methods for the future. All phases from raw materials, production of components, assembly, packaging and distribution are carefully considered, in accordance with and sometimes surpassing current EU directives and international standards on quality, safety and sustainability.
Aluminium, one of the key materials used by Novellini in the production of shower enclosures is processed currently from up to 60% recycled material and whilst maintaining the highest quality of aluminium product Novellini is striving to increase the proportion of recycled aluminium, in so doing reduce dependency on new raw aluminium further reducing environmental impacts.
Novellini introduced the use of PVD chrome as the main finish treatment applied to aluminium profiles used throughout the Novellini collections. The PVD chrome process used is a unique and patented system that is exclusive to Novellini (the same process is used for the Gold & Nickel finishes) and it has several key advantages: •
PVD chrome has a very low environmental impact and produces no harmful chemical by-products,
•
PVD chrome produces a durable bright finish that truly matches to other chromed brassware finishes,
•
PVD chrome is applied to profiles after any machining so that even profile ends and drillings are protected.
•
The PVD chrome process allows Novellini to add other base metals to the finish such as Silver and Zeolite – long recognised for their anti-bacterial properties.
•
PVD chrome gives a smoother surface finish that reduces the need for vigorous cleaning and prevents the build up of lime-scale deposits.
So now in 2016, its 50th year, Novellini is able to offer a range of 6 durable frame finishes to complement its already extensive range of shower enclosures and steam cabins. We supply our products within 72hr nationwide via our merchant partners; please visit our website for more details: www.novellini.com for brochures and advice email: info-uk@novellini.com

A symphony may take forms and developments absolutely unexpected, varying with the taste of the composer. Unlike the concert, in a symphony, even when some instruments are silent, others continue playing, always together. And that’s the aura that the Symphony washbasin carries as it is a conjunct that brings design, sophistication, beauty, grandeur and luxury.
LUXURY SYMPHONY WASHBASIN
Everything is acting in a perfect set, resulting in a design piece so pleasing to the eyes as the Mozart’s compositions are for the ears. Brio’s
SINGLE RUN COPES WITH WELLINGTON, NZ WEATHER AT LANDMARK DEVELOPMENT
Brio architectural hardware has been instrumental in the transformation of a heritage landmark in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. The Appartamento II Casino complex has been designed to interface seamlessly with a heritage landmark building, formerly an iconic restaurant, while incorporating cutting edge contemporary architectural elements. The architects have designed the apartment complex to offer residents an indoor or outdoor living space in any kind of weather with a signature feature of the design being exterior sliding glass panels to allow residents to control, their own environment. Specialist glass manufacturer Euroglass was presented with the task of providing a sliding system that would cope with environmental conditions and also carry the weight of the double-glazed glass panels. The system would also need to be able to handle the blustery and extreme weather conditions that Wellington is famous for. Taking all considerations into account, Euroglass decided there was only one possible solution – Brio’s SingleRun 350 system. Brio’s Single Run 350 system was picked because it could cope easily with Euroglass’s calculations that the glass panels would be subject to wind loads of up to 3.04kPa (approximately 300kg per square metre of glass) without flexing in
even the strongest winds. Plus, with each double-glazed panel weighing around 133kg, the system had to be able to handle the heavy panel weight, ensuring the panels remained stable and in place under any wind buffeting. The system also needed to be suitable for a marine environment, as well as hardwearing and stain-resistant. Made from 316 grade stainless steel and marine-grade anodised aluminium, Brio Single Run 350 easily matched both the environmental and wind load capacity requirements. Extensively tested in an industry standard salt-spray chamber, Brio’s sliding system has been designed to be used in marine environments, with each element constructed from the highest quality corrosion resistant materials and specialised stain-resistant coatings. Already engineered to handle panels up to 350kg, Brio 350 Single Run’s side-wall was thick enough to ensure no flexing would occur under wind load. More importantly, this also meant that the glass panels would remain in their tracks and not be blown out under pressure. Because it is manufactured to industrywide standards, Brio’s sliding system and hardware was easily compatible with the customised fittings Euroglass supplied to secure the glass panels in place. Single Run 350 is ideally suited to large architectural openings in residential, commercial and industrial interior
or exterior applications. Like all Brio Single Run Architectural Systems, the combination of precision bearings, nylon tyred wheels and a unique track profile offers quiet finger-tip control. Brio straight sliding architectural systems are designed to be discrete. Square track is ideally shaped for recessing into the ceiling line. Two parallel track seal grooves locate bush seals that not only hide the hanger bolts and brackets, but also provide an element of sound retention. The track can be top-fixed through the track or side-fixed using Brio stainless steel face-fixed mounting brackets for single or double track runs. According to David Newton, General Manager UK at Brio, the demand for bi-folding and sliding exterior and interior doors is set to continue apace, whether in the home or in a commercial environment. “With all this creativity architects need to know there is a ‘go to’ expert who can help them achieve their vision with a service that provides not only the architectural hardware that will ‘hold up’ both aesthetically and in use but also the expertise to provide a full technical specification from a drawing – or even a chat on the phone,” he says. “We are a global company focused on bringing adventurous ideas to life, converting the conceptual thoughts of our customers into exciting reality. I sincerely believe the Brio range of quality, well designed product combined with expert technical resources makes us a world leader in design and quality,” concludes Newton. Negropontes Galerie Shifting Reflections For its third collection, Galerie Negropontes presents Re ets Décalés – Shifting Re ections – consisting of ten furniture designs by Hervé Langlais. Playing on optical illusions, perception and gaze, these designs unveil aesthetics of multiplying forms, offbeat shapes and graphic motion. Such abstraction appeals to our imagination and transforms the observer of this collection of mirrors, consoles and pedestal tables into an active participant of their representation. Each of the designs presents the shifting re ection of the eye of its onlooker.
The second was a tribute to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi and focused on shape. This latest collection, realised by Sophie Negropontes and Hervé Langlais, focuses on graphics and the way in which movement is expressed through geometric shapes. The work of designer Hervé Langlais and founder Sophie Negropontes fundamentally remains a reference to the tradition of

Zoe Ouvrier
Paris based artist Zoé Ouvrier uses hand-engraving techniques to turn plywood into objects of exception.
An Essential Artisan A graduate of the Beaux Arts School in Paris, Zoé Ouvrier engraves organic forests on wooden screens and panels. The bark, charged with natural fingerprints, evokes the matrix from which the forest and humanity spring forth. Her artwork creates a space between nature and texture within which the atmosphere is mysterious, and where time is in suspension. In playing with the balance between shadow and light, Zoé Ouvrier creates engraved screens and panels that lead us into an atmosphere where both the strength and the serenity of nature reign.

Making The Right Choice For Your Natural Stone As a trusted retailer in natural stone, many customers come to us for advice when sourcing tiles for their residential or commercial projects. Thankfully our years of experience have made us experts in offering advice on the suitability of one type of limestone over another or the perfect slate tiles. We can even give advice on how to restore tiles that have been a little unloved. Our impressive track record in providing quality natural stone products together with exceptional customer service has enabled us to deliver an outstanding range of tiles at exceedingly affordable prices. It is important to remember that natural stone does not arise out of a man-made process. Produced entirely by Mother Nature, natural stone offers a building material which is beautifully unique in terms of the colour, texture and the quality. Because of these characteristic differences in every piece of stone, it is worthwhile doing some research when looking into the use of natural stone for your projects.
Here we look at some of the most important points to consider and the key factors you can use to differentiate between the types of natural stone available for your floor or wall. Know your needs: This is the first thing you need to think about. Why are you choosing natural stone? What do you like about it? What do you specifically want to achieve from using a certain type of stone in your project? The natural stone you choose should reflect YOUR requirements. For instance, limestone is often favoured by interior designers, architects, builders and home owners because of its durability and ease of use in complimenting a variety of interior design schemes. Limestone is also perfect for use in a number of home areas such as kitchens, hallways, orangeries and has a beautiful colour palette to work with. Know the durability of natural stone: If you are looking for types of natural stone that are suitable for use in heavy footfall areas consider looking at some of the harder stones. For instance, our black riven slate tiles are ideal for projects where there will be a heavy footfall, and thanks to their fantastic anti-slip rating, are perfect for use in bathrooms or external projects. A stone such as our honed slate is best suited for use on walls or in low traffic areas such as bathrooms. Look after your tiles: It is important to remember that natural stone is not waterproof or stain resistant, it must therefore be correctly sealed after installation. Canyon Road by Violante & Rochford The Canyon Road project by Santa Fe designer Violante & Rochford, is in an especially historic, exclusive neighborhood in Santa Fe. The house is a new build, and Violante & Rochford were brought in during the building to suggest finishes, color palette, materials and more that would be part of their overall décor plan. This is a second home (but their first ever in Santa Fe) for a very high-profile couple from Texas, who have two children and a great, big dog! The couple wanted the house to be stylish, chic and sophisticated without being too formal or fussy. Every piece in the house is comfortable and durable, yet still elegant, like the mohair sofas in the living room, where the kids might be playing and the dog is asleep on the sofa taking a nap. The aesthetic is meant to be very clean, no clutter, sleek lines, and space to roam around in. There are a few major English pieces, like the chandelier in the dining room, a nod to the husband, who
is originally from England. In general, the décor is a mix of periods, styles and locales, which is the Violante & Rochford signature. And worked into that, treasures from the family that make the home distinctly theirs. An 18th Century chest co-exists harmoniously with more modern pieces. The art is a mix of the whimsical and two works by major abstract expressionist, Emily Mason (from Greenwich Village in NYC), and the painting above the fireplace by Forest Moses, an important New Mexico artist.
The only rule that Violante & Rochford were given: both of the daughters’ bedrooms had to be identical—furniture, rugs, window treatments, but that each daughter could choose “her” colors, and that would be the individual spin on each room. A great way to keep sisters from bickering with each other about whose room is better!
The provenance of the décor is international, yet there are a lot of distinctly New Mexican pieces and architecture that reflect the history of where the house is situated.
The result is a very low-maintenance, joyful second home that the family uses a lot and enjoys enormously.
Color is an important factor here, sofas in the living room are purple, there is a hot pink lamp in the dining room—pieces and other colorful, playful accessories that make the house fun!
All of the diverse fabrics used in the house are contemporary, and came from all over the world.

For the upcoming 2015-2016 year, renowned Belgian lighting designer Hind Rabii offers new and elegant design creations. For the occasion of Maison & Objet, Hind Rabii presents her two latest lighting collections: the Belle d'I table lamp and Ya Ya sconces. After unveiling her collection Belle d'I at Euroluce in Milan last April, Hind Rabii called upon the expertise of designer Luc Vincent. Together, they developed a collection of Belle d'I table lamps. Metalized tints and transparency blend together harmoniously creating a modern yet sophisticated collection. With its simple and clean lines, the Belle d'I table lamp is timeless, fitting perfectly in both classic and contemporary interiors. Keeping in tune with contemporary trends, Hind Rabii offers varied collections. Her new Ya Ya sconces reflect her desire to create pieces that are both graphic and contemporary. Freed from constraints and shapes, these lights are an example of absolute creativity. Flat and metallic, these unique sconces reveal a mirror nuance, creating games of reflection and light for a truly warm and magical ambiance. www.hindrabii.net

KI Europe help Societe Generale “work smarter” with a radically new office landscape KI Europe, working with Directive Office Ltd and TP Bennett have created a radically new office environment for Societe Generale (SG), one of the world’s largest financial services companies. With increasing demand on their existing real estate around the Square Mile, and a new Kohn Pederson Fox-designed consolidated office in Canary Wharf set for completion in 2019, SG decided to explore opportunities to maximise efficient use of their facilities. After reviewing the workplace strategies of other global companies and how they address challenges of space planning and ever-evolving work styles, SG launched a pilot scheme introducing agile working for 250 employees in support roles, on the 2nd floor of their Tower Hill offices. Jeremy Gibbs, Director and Project Manager of COO Projects at Societe Generale commented: “We now have a 44% increase in capacity in a much nicer environment. This is a first for Societe Generale and as such the concept of agile/dynamic working is a new concept, which has been globally introduced across the company. We’ve introduced a “Work Smarter” initiative for staff and as an organisation we have approached this in a highly democratic way. As a result, we found that there was a need for more meeting, collaboration and confidential phone call spaces, including a desire for a better provision of coffee, printing and copy facilities.” Appointed as lead consultants for the company’s eventual relocation to Canary Wharf, TP Bennett were also required to bring SG’s “work smarter” initiative to life within their existing offices. In effect, this gradual roll-out would help transition the workforce to a new way of working, in an environment that is much more open, collaborative and flexible. Kate Sian Boulter, Spatial Interior Designer for TP Bennett commented: “Given that this was the first of its kind within the Societe Generale Corporation there was a certain pressure to ensure it worked. It was clear from the start of the process that SG were keen to explore new ways of working and very much viewed their new premises in Tower Hill, Level 2 as a pilot for the larger future project as well as a potential template that they could roll out globally. From the initial design SG were very interested in exploring new ways of working and providing an exciting work environment for their staff. They had a keen interest in what furniture would be utilised to help achieve efficiency and looked to inject a level of colour beyond their black and red brand.” Prior to the refurbishment, the space was dominated by cellular offices and lacked
sufficient meeting rooms, with no informal or breakout spaces. Previously used as a trader floor, it was densely populated with assigned desks, partitions and access control, which in turn darkened the space and generated a sense of a fragmented workforce. The TP Bennett team introduced open plan work spaces, with benches accommodating up to 10 instead of 8 people. The new 1:1.2 desk sharing ratio allows more efficient use of space as flexible working becomes increasingly popular. With senior management and their assistants occupying the only assigned workstations throughout the floor, the remaining 80% of desks were divided into ‘neighbourhoods’ and are unassigned to support flexible and collaborative working - a dramatic change from the former, rigid working environment. As the floor is not client-facing, the now entirely open plan office was free to depart from the red and black SG corporate colours. Instead, a colour palette of white, blue and grey was selected to create a contemporary and calm atmosphere. UniteSE workstations were specified with white worktops on black understructures in order to further lighten the aesthetic and create an illusion of floating worksurfaces. There is no screening between workstations so as to maintain an open vista, but also to facilitate easy reconfiguration and flexibility in the future. The assigned workstations for senior management are also UniteSE, but can be differentiated by their generous 2000mm width.
free environments allow individuals to work without distraction. There are also drop-in positions provided for visitor use within these zones, should they seek an alternative to the generous provisions at the central hub. The central hub is very much at the heart of the new floorplan, offering team touchdown opportunities and collaborative spaces for the first time. KI’s Work2 bench has been selected for this area at two different heights - a standard workstation height of 740mm, and at a higher level for standing or high chairs. With integrated power and data, these benches are perfect for quick get-togethers. Oversailing worksurfaces supported by robust A-frame legs and a clean, simple cantilevered understructure free from obstructions maximise freedom of movement. Nearby informal occasional tables and chairs, presentation booths and refreshment areas complete the easy and accessible communal zone. Surrounding the central hub are some of the 17 meeting rooms found on the floor. Designed to be accessed from both the collaborative and workstation neighbourhoods, these more private spaces act as a visual and acoustic barrier between the hub and desking areas. Accommodating small groups, the 4 large meeting rooms are bookable. One of these features a custom-made UniteSE columnbase table at standing height suitable for 6-8 participants. The remaining 13 smaller meeting rooms for up to 3 people are drop in only, allowing staff to access private spaces on an ad hoc basis.
Another first for the company is the introduction of sit-stand desks. Three clusters of 6 ToggleSE sit-stand desks have been placed around the floor and have proven extremely popular, becoming occupied very early in the day. This popularity has lead to Societe Generale dramatically increasing the provision of sit-stand desks at other upcoming refurbishment projects to 50% of all workstations.
Upon moving into their radically new workspace, employees were overwhelmingly impressed with the new design and have embraced their new working culture. The 2nd floor has even begun to attract employees based on other floors within the building, keen to enjoy the vibrant collaborative spaces. Jeremy Gibbs comments: “We’ve had really positive feedback from staff and visitors – even from the sceptics!”
UniteSE storage has been integrated into the floorplan, providing one linear meter per person for personal storage in lieu of pedestals, plus additional team storage has been positioned at the end of the bench. Additional 50cm unassigned lockers are scattered around the office for those who cycle or run to work, or need to store gym kits. Integrating perfectly with workstations, they help delineate neighbourhoods and walkways. Larger, general storage can be found all over the office for coats, stationary, waste and recycling.

SPOTLIGHT ON INDUSTRY GROWTH AND MARKET PRIORITIES AT
2016
Ecobuild returns in March with an increased and in-depth focus on the latest industry trends, challenges and opportunities – and how professionals from across the whole supply chain can capitalise on them. The UK’s largest show dedicated to construction and energy will provide visitors with access to invaluable industry insights and projections relating to all aspects of the construction sector through a mix of a high-level conference, CPDaccredited learning hubs and more than 800 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of new products, materials, solutions and services.
Attracting more than 40,000 industry professionals from across the whole supply chain each year, Ecobuild is the leading exhibition and conference for the UK construction and energy market. It attracts a broad range of visitors from architects to manufacturers, suppliers to installers. In 2015, 96% of the top 25 architectural practices featured on the AJ 120 List and 84% of the leading housebuilders and contractors attended the show. The 2016 event will see an evolved proposition for the event to focus on areas of industry growth and market priorities such as housing, infrastructure, next generation
innovation, technology and people.
Dedicated days to Homes, Architecture and Next Generation Ecobuild 2016’s high-level conference is split into three daily streams. The first day’s stream of Homes explores the most pressing, divisive and important decisions that the industry must take to deliver comfortable, sustainable, resilient places and homes. What do new-build and retrofitted homes and communities need to deliver, and at what cost? Chaired by broadcaster Cathy Newman, speakers include Tony Pidgley, Chairman
69 of Berkeley Group; David Sheridan, Chief Executive of Keepmoat, and Rowan Moore, Architecture Critic for the Observer. All three will provide a unique and inspiring look at what makes good housing.
Among the speakers, David Hancock, Head of Construction, UK Cabinet Office will talk about how to inspire talent and nurture the next generation of skills while Richard Francis, Prinicipal, The Monomoy Company will deliver a speech entitled
The second day focuses on Architecture and looks at the changing role of the architect, the importance of architecture across the built environment, the need for change and some of the most interesting and inspiring architectural projects. Speakers include Sadie Morgan, Founder of dRMM and chair of the HS2 Design Panel, Simon Allford of Sterling Prize winners AHMM, Xavier de Kestelier of Foster & Partners, and writer, journalist, essayist and filmmaker, Jonathan Meades. The Next Generation day looks to the future: how smart technology, changing demographics and wellness will drive design and construction in the future as well as how to address the skills gap and attract young talent to the industry. Ecobuild’s most exploratory, provocative and inspiring day – it is a must for all those with an interest in ‘what’s next’.

Chapter House of St Paul’s Cathedral becomes a more ecologically efficient office Chapter House is a striking Grade II* Listed building sitting opposite the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. Built between 1712-1714, it was designed by Christopher Wren and his son. The building was initially used as lodging for the Dean and other members of the Chapter. However, after suffering severe damage during the Second World War it was renovated in the 1950s into offices, and has since been viewed as the administrative heart of the Cathedral. Recently, Chapter House underwent a major revamp to bring it up to modern and ecological office standards, whilst retaining key features. A key requirement was to improve the thermal
insulation throughout the building, retaining the buildings heat and reducing energy bills. As a specialist in the design, manufacture and installation of secondary glazing, Selectaglaze was specified as its tested products can reduce heat loss by up to 50%. This can be achieved by the bespoke fitting of the secondary glazing alongside the use of high performance seals. A number of slim line products were used to suit the various window styles and sizes. These units were mainly chosen as they are discreet, a reversible adaptation and are often accepted by heritage agencies across the UK.
Over 120 units have been installed in six different colour finishes to match the existing frames. Selectaglaze has a wealth of experience working in buildings of all types. Established in 1966 and Royal Warrant holders since 2004, Selectaglaze has an extensive range of products to suit the needs of different buildings. RINNAI WELCOMES ADVENT OF ‘TRANSPARENT’ ENERGY LABELLING Rinnai, designer and manufacturer of the Infinity range of continuous flow gas fired water heaters, welcomes the implementation of the ERP and Energy Labelling Directive on 26 September as its expansive range of water heaters can satisfy a complete range of load profiles and all units are A RATED. On 26 September 2015 The Energy Related Products (ERP) Directive, incorporating Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directives for water heaters (Lot 2) comes into force, meaning that water-heating products sold in the UK will need to meet minimum energy performance criteria in order to be legally placed on the market, and will require an energy label. “The Energy Labelling Directive offers transparency to specifiers, installers and end users who will now have a clear guide for choosing the most efficient units available,” says Tony Gittings, Managing Director of Rinnai UK. “Rinnai now brings to market the most expansive range of A-rated appliances, that have load profiles suitable for both domestic and commercial projects. Our appliances range from load profile(s) for small domestic models to XXL sized commercial units,” says Gittings.
Rinnai is also set up to offer installers expert help with system labelling. The onus of labelling in this scenario falls on the installer, rather than the manufacturer, who will be responsible for system labels for those installations that combine a water heater with renewables, for example. Rinnai has been working well ahead of the deadline for ERP and took delivery of its coveted A-rated labels in July. To get to that stage, Rinnai had all its appliances tested twice. The first test was carried out at the Rinnai headquarters in Japan, where units underwent rigorous interrogation by the company’s expert engineers and then again by notified body who awarded the rating. When these Rinnai water heaters are paired with solar thermal technology and the latest intelligent controls are used for ultimate renewable heat optimisation, even higher efficiencies can be achieved, Gittings adds. Rinnai’s advanced engineering and attention to detail has resulted in the complete range of Rinnai Infinity water heaters being given the coveted A-rating. It shows an energy efficient continuous flow gas fired hot water system, whether teamed with renewables technology or used on its own, actually has a lot to offer as we move towards the Government’s carbon neutral goals. Rinnai Infinity units have been developed to exceed all current demands and lead the field in this respect. For more information on the RINNAI product range visit www.rinnaiuk.com

Building Information Modelling (BIM) attempts to standardise the creation and exchange of information to make the design,
construction and operational management of a facility or infrastructure asset more efficient. It is important to note that BIM is not just about buildings, but in its wildest context is being applied to facility, building, road, railway, and infrastructure projects. It is also now very much impacting organisations throughout the supply chain including manufacturers, fabricators and interior designers. The word ‘building’ in itself also doesn’t necessarily describe the full scope of a project – it doesn’t cover policies, assumptions, strategic decisions, supply chain, specification, user assessment, regulation and recycling sustainability. All are key parts of the projects ‘information model’ and should be included in the creation of the facility or asset information as the project progresses. BIM covers all aspects of the project lifecycle and is being driven by UK Government, to ensure that all public sector projects are under-pinned by the creation, collation and exchange or shared

Designer Electric Heating for Interior Designers As an interior designer, how many times have you been restricted in your designs by ugly water filled steel radiators that take up a huge amount of wall space, drawing attention away from the modern image you wish to create? Positioning of beautiful furniture is completely governed by the amount of wall space left to you, AFTER the central heating has been installed. Forcing you to at the very least, to paint them in your chosen colours to try to disguise them.
No more pipes!
Using these electric radiators, means there is no need for ugly pipes coming out of the floors, down from the ceilings, or across walls – ever again. They simply plug into any standard plug socket, which you can have installed slightly behind them, hiding all traces of wires or plugs.
With each radiator controlled from its own thermostatic programmer at waist height on the top of each unit, your clients will never need to scrabble on the floor to adjust temperatures, making them perfect for all assisted living environments and disabilities as well.
It doesn’t have to be like that
Do you know about the designer range of NEEDO electric radiators that are supplied across Europe and the UK by a UK company in Thetford called IntelliHeat?
They are designed in Italy and are available in a range of soft or striking colours, like the jet black or passionate red, and also in a range of interesting shapes and designs. The tall vertical radiators can be placed on small walls, leaving the longest walls for your most beautiful interior designs. There is also a range of stunning showcase stand-alone radiators that look like free standing lamps. Again is striking arctic white or jet black, they would look fabulous in any penthouse.
Have a look at our enclosed pictures, and next time your design process is hindered by an ugly water filled radiator, horrible bits of pipe, or restricted by not being able to use the walls as you wish, please give us a call.
We can install them ALONGSIDE any water based system, REPLACE any storage heating or fossil fuel system, and add them to ANY conservatory, home office extension or Granny Flat without any masonry work, first fixing, or lifting of tiled or polished wooden floors. Designer electric heating is light years ahead of the tired old fashioned systems in use today, so enhance your designs with our designer styles! www.intelligentheat.co.uk

New Initiative Brings Community and Ecological Construction Together Darren Bolger, MD of London Building Specialists, with over 20 years experience in the industry, has been pioneering apprenticeships for disadvantaged young people since 2011. This initiative, designed initially by him for the DWP and JCP gives under 25-year-olds the opportunity to access the construction sector, working with professional companies and offers them the chance to build their future, resulting in long-term vocational careers within the building and construction industry. Now the scheme is being expanded to include training in environmentallyfriendly construction, and the apprentices are going to be housed in their own local authority accommodation. Each apprentice will be trained in both traditional working methods, and advanced ecological materials. Darren Bolger says, “The apprenticeship schemes offers young people work on projects within their communities. We have previously formed partnerships through community link building, and we will now provide the necessary mentoring to deliver long-term strategies, work and continued progress to all apprentices under our scheme. “Under the accreditation umbrella of A.C.E (Academy of Construction Excellence) scheme, builders, construction companies and personnel will be offered building projects in their own localities, driving construction to local and community levels, thus economically strengthening each community and offering young people in the area work and training and long-term vocational prospects.” Wandsworth Mayor Nicola Nardelli supports the scheme and awarded the ‘Badge of Honour’ for “services to the community” to Mr Bolger. There are ambitious plans to convene a summit of all the 32 London Mayors in the spring to roll out the project capitalwide. A further angle to the project is The Home Club, an online platform giving consumers the ability to receive full trade discounts on fixtures, fittings and equipment normally only available to the trade. The Home Club members can obtain these price reductions directly. Half the profits generated will be directed into managing and running the apprenticeships. Darren Bolger says, “I wanted to put something back into both communities and the industry, by giving young people the opportunity for vocational training, so they can build a solid career in the construction industry, and learn the best practices, which involves approaching every project with the environmental impact in mind.” The scheme is open to applications from London-based under 25s from all backgrounds. The Pot Company’s Guide to Planters When decorating your home plant pots are often an afterthought, but choosing the right planters can set the theme of your property by either subtly complimenting its features or even creating a striking focal point. In recent years the search for garden planters has become more and more complex, gone are the days of a quick trip to a garden centre with one or two choices available. The planter market is saturated and consumers are bombarded with a huge choice of materials and finishes. Leading supplier of garden planters and features, The Pot Company, offer a wide variety of materials and the sales team are more than happy to guide customers through the available options. From rustic planters suited to character properties to sleek and contemporary styles for the more modern home, customers can find the perfect planter for that finishing touch to any outdoor space at The Pot Company.

Terracino is fired in highpowered gas kilns to a much higher temperature than standard Terracotta, and as a result boasts frost resistance up to -40 °C. The hand finished range has a warm, natural feel and is available in a wide range of designs and sizes which range from 10100cm in diameter. This classic Tuscan look lends itself well to the majority of properties and the updated manufacturing techniques also make it a reliable option. Its durable credentials, versatility and timeless look make it a popular choice amongst customers.
These eco-friendly faux lead planters have a traditional and authentic look yet represent excellent value for money. Manufactured from recycled materials, Clayfibre production requires only 10% of the energy used for ceramic and plastic equivalents. The planters are lightweight enough to be easily moved before planting and will weather gently and realistically resulting in an attractive faux-lead patina. The range includes boxes, troughs and cylinders in a range of designs with the most popular being the classic Georgian panelled Chelsea Design.
Due to its endless life span and extraordinary strength Corten Steel’s original use was re-inforcing bridges. Starting out as a blue steel, as soon as it’s exposed to the elements it will naturally weather and develop a rich eye catching finish. The rust provides a protective seal making these planters virtually indestructible. The warm industrial feel is very on trend at the moment, and Corten Steel was a prominent feature in an award winning garden at the Chelsea Flower Show this year. The Pot Company’s Corten Steel is hand crafted in Europe and is available in boxes, cylinders and troughs, with bespoke sizes also available.
Fibreglass is a popular choice for consumers wanting a high quality contemporary look in a lightweight material. Durable, frost resistant and easy to wipe clean this planter is ideal for internal or external use. The Pot Company’s Fibreglass is available in a range of colours and, rather than being painted, the colour is added during the formation of the raw fibreglass, this manufacturing process means that the planter will keep its colour even if knocked or scuffed. To add further reliability it has also been reinforced at the corners. This range is available in boxes, cylinders and troughs in an extremely wide range of sizes including large statement pieces.
Planter Tips (in a separate box if space allows) •
For a roof terrace or a balcony Fibrestone or Fibreglass are the perfect lightweight option.
•
Clayfibre is ideal for customers wanting an eco-friendly container.
•
If your planter will be exposed to strong winds a non-tapered shape will be the least likely to blow over.
•
If you’re concerned about frost Terracino, Fibreglass and Ironstone all have very good frost resistant properties.
In addition to planters, The Pot Company also offer burners, wood storage and water features. For more information, visit www.thepotco.com or call a member of their sales team on 01892 890 353.

Osiris Side Table
80
More than Side Table, is a piece of art. It is with this premise that we brought to the light our most recent family of products, the Osiris family. Designed by our head designer Jos茅 Queir贸s. The face of this new line of exclusive pieces is Osiris Side Table. A statement piece predominantly made of brass, with the top finished with noble Palisander Wood Veneer, a type of wood that is characterized by the striking veins. The use of these materials is a combination of tradition, lightness and sophistication, making Osiris Side Table into a unique furniture piece. Inspired by the Egypt pyramids, Osiris pieces are composed by several details that we can find not only in the pyramids itself, but also in paintings and sculptures from the ancient times. The body of Osiris Side Table for example, was developed as a sculpture, to be functional and tribute to the most pure forms of art. Clean design, emotional and creative. These are the core goals behind the development of Osiris. Because art can be anywhere. Get inspired!

Electrical accessories finished in Jordan Bronze feature in Mayfair residence.
Focus SB Horizon switch plates and electrical sockets were selected to complement this redesigned residence in central London. The design and specification of all electrical accessories were planned with Product Consultant Gennifer Ling working closely with John Coughlan of Electrotech the Electrical Contractors for the development. The electrical accessories featured the designer Horizon range, with Square Corners and finished in Jordan Bronze, an exclusive finish available only from Focus SB. Also manufactured was a range of matching bespoke switch plates for the Lutron lighting control system. John Coughlan said, “Due to the nature of our ongoing projects and our continually developing specifications, we find Focus SB are able to meet the challenging design requirements with their varied range of high quality products.” The re-development involved refurbishment of the town house and joining the mews house, at the rear, to the main building, creating a stunning glass atrium in the process. A pool and spa area was created
underground and the whole property was modernised to the highest specification and attention to detail. John continues, “On this project Focus SB provided bespoke plates matched to many interior finishes such as the iron work. The Jordan Bronze finish was chosen by the interior designer to match the other fixtures and fittings.” The property is situated in Upper Grosvenor Street, which connects Park Lane to Grosvenor Gardens in the heart of Mayfair. It now extends back to a depth of eight houses and includes one of the largest and luxurious pool areas we have seen.

Ruskin Air Management
Posh Hotels Deserve Posh Grilles How often have you noticed the rather utilitarian looking diffuser on the wall of the otherwise beautifully designed hotel bedroom and thought: ‘Surely they could have done better than that?’ Ventilation is often out of sight out of mind, but in the rarefied world of four and five star hotels almost nothing is left to chance in terms of the look and feel of the interior finishes. Apart, it seems, from the diffusers. A stark, metallic grille can be a glaring eyesore among the fine fabrics and gleaming chrome or wood work that defines the interior design. Well, the self-same thought had occurred to senior managers at Ruskin Air Management. The ventilation grilles might be doing their job very well, but surely they can look a bit better; or even become a design feature in their own right. The company decided they had the fundamental design of distribution grilles right, but they needed something more aesthetically pleasing for high end projects, particularly four and five star hotels. So it was decided to embark on some research to develop a grille design that continued to ensure the right level of treated and tempered air entered the hotel room, but just looked a bit (or even a lot) better. The company believes that if it can get this right, there is a huge untapped market out there. Ruskin began in the London area cross questioning hotel managers and systems designers to establish the parameters. Initial findings revealed that the design of many hotel ventilation grilles meant they
were prone to noise and attracting dust. They were also difficult to access so were hard to clean and maintain. Ruskin also wanted to see how the room occupants will react to a new style of grille, as well as how they look, they wanted to know how people feel; do they want control over their environment; how they assess noise and whether they perceive the room to be too hot or too cold. Ruskin looked into the impact of humidifying the air supplied by the fancoil and how the Coanda Effect determines the route of air around the furniture and occupants within the bedrooms. Using the Ruskin Air Management Development Academy Test centre they tested the effect of airflows at floor level and also at the average heights for people standing and sitting to establish what people perceive as pleasant air velocities and temperatures. This is vital for a new product design as air must not be sent into the wrong areas. Maintenance issues were taken into account. There will always be some dust on the products, but if the periods of time between cleaning are extended that will prove a big positive for the hotel maintenance staff and the guests.
After various designs, trials and tests Ruskin would like to present “The Dreamcatcher”. The product concept replaces the aesthetically unpleasant grille face currently used for ventilation outlet systems. The new product is not only aesthetically pleasing; it also has superior airflow performance, a unique design feature in its own right as a result of the three dimensional pattern. It functions as a jet diffuser and reaches every one of the desired values concerning airflow performance. LED lighting elements can be integrated within, emphasizing the three dimensional design and can be combined a with movement sensor to provide an additional innovative feature within the design. Kevin Munson Managing Director commented “We are extremely pleased with the new product and the integration of technologies within it which have never been offered with any grille before now. The design of the product has huge scope and offers bespoke options to fit in with any interior. We can’t wait to see what the future of this product will bring.” www.ruskinuk.co.uk

The range of products supplied by Touch date from circa 1640 French (Louise XIV) and cover all subsequent periods (Georgian, Edwardian & Victorian), art deco and contemporary pieces also make up the product ranges. In addition, Touch showcases the very best of British manufacturing; the best ranges are still produced in the Midlands by craftsmen in factories dating back 200 years or more. Touch also sell European manufactured goods
which is considered to be of a very good quality and in recent years they have introduced some of the far eastern made products, albeit in a limited range but cost effective. With trends continuously evolving, new innovative products are constantly under development. Touch understand that keeping up with the fashion-shifts is imperative in order to provide every customer with the best solution for their requirements. Ironmongery can be a difficult and complicated aspect of a building project, as a result Touch aim to take this awkward aspect and make it user friendly and clear to understand by offering an onsite service where they carry out a detailed door by door, window by window, room by room Ironmongery schedule, highlighting all requirements and identifying any items that can be refurbished. Refurbishment is a large part of the business; Touch will undertake complete ironmongery refurbishment projects, and can restore old paint covered door furniture to their former glory, looking as new, at a fraction of the cost to replace.

The Interiors Group Create Brand New Fit Out For HSB Engineering Insurance
The Interiors Group have created a new fit out for HSB Engineering Insurance, the UK’s only company solely focused on engineering insurance and inspection services, following their relocation to Windsor Place, Dublin. The Interiors Group were briefed to complete a CAT B refurb to create a spacious environment for their staff and clients. The 1110 sq ft of office space, situated close to the city centre, spans across 3 floors so they needed to ensure that they optimised the space available to them and that each floor connected to the other seamlessly. The Interiors Group created a smart and complete office interior by using a simple colour scheme of white with blocks of colour throughout, and by adapting the existing space to fulfil each floor’s purpose. In the reception area on the ground floor, the client’s existing furniture was reused and repositioned to adjust to the space. The floor was divided by a feature glazed high impact screen to form the 12 person boardroom, fit out with a brand new feature table and chairs, as well as a focal credenza. To create a visual barrier from the reception space, the glass partition had light and dark blue panels running vertically down the pane, and frosted white stripes horizontally; subtly screening the meeting place from the open area. Inside the boardroom, the space was maximised by removing the trunking
which ran alongside the exterior wall. The existing heating and casing was boxed out to accommodate the new credenza unit with a new communications room constructed with grills to the doors for improved ventilation. These elements all ensured that the boardroom and surrounding areas felt spacious and comfortable. Throughout the three floors, the colour scheme remains simple and minimalistic. White painted and feature walls of bright blue and green are softened with an eggshell blue colour used on skirting boards alongside light grey painted doors. This makes the space feel bright and more open, and gives an illusion of a larger office. The first floor delivers a new office experience for staff and complements the ground floor both aesthetically and functionally. Brand new workstations and storage units provide a basis to work in comfort with ample room for employees to interact as well as easy access to other floors. The white walls and grey carpet tiles remain the same throughout the three levels however in the office space, there is a deep shade of purple added to the desks which gives a certain warmth to the space. Following on to the second floor is the breakout area where staff can go to relax and take time out from their work. The location of the breakout area at the top level of the building gives the staff the
feeling that they are leaving their work behind in a physical sense and appeals to staff who want to make the most of their time away from the desk. The assent to the second floor would be particularly liberating on a sunny day as you would be met with a flood of light streaming in from the 6 Velux windows. The space automatically seems larger and brighter and the feature wall in a cool green amplifies the relaxing vibe. Throughout the design process, the focus had been placed upon utilising the floor space to create the illusion of a larger office. One way this was achieved is through the choice of lighting and The Interiors Group ensured that they gained full potential from the buildings location; as two of the walls were exterior, there was plenty of natural light coming into the office space; in addition to the existing windows, new slim LED flat panel lights were installed throughout. This office space is light, bright and inviting; a very pleasant environment for staff and visitors. The Interiors Group are a 28 year old leading Design and Build office fit out company and have offices in London, Dublin, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. They are widely proven and trusted by both clients and professional project managers to deliver business environments on time and on budget. www.interiorsgroup.co.uk

Opening the Door to a Bygone Era at Fortnum & Mason Turning Old into New Due to its old fashioned glamour and vintage beauty, the designers of this new restaurant wanted to create a lasting impression right from the start by incorporating an authentic looking entrance to this chic new eatery. As experts in the field of entrance design, Boon Edam were chosen by the restaurant designers to design, manufacture and install a traditional-style entry way which would also be fitting for the modern world. The bespoke revolving door was entirely hand made out of timber with a power assisted drive and an additional collapsible door set added to allow for the passing of bulky items and larger items of luggage. This prestigious door design was chosen by the designer for many reasons. Due to its prominent position in Piccadilly, London, the architects were tasked with creating a statement entrance piece which would also ooze a quintessential look and feel which would, in turn, blend in with the overall quintessentially English theme of the department store. The revolving door was also a first choice option as a way of
overcoming the great British weather of cold winds and wet weather! Typically, a revolving door can eliminate the amount of cold air that enters a building during its use and rivals that of a more traditional swing door which lacks any control of draughts during cold spells. Experts in Design
Boon Edam was delighted to be chosen as the main supplier for the bespoke entrance to the new ‘bygone era’ style restaurant at Fortnum & Mason based in London. The new restaurant aptly named 45 Jermyn Street is the latest addition to the highend department store which has been successfully running since 1707. www.boonedam.co.uk
As a world leader in entry design, our client opted to work with Boon Edam Ltd whose reputation is synonymous with reliability and quality. Like Fortnum & Mason, the Boon Edam brand is long standing and internationally recognised for providing its customers with the quality workmanship that they’ve come to expect over the years. As a unique company which started life in designing wooden revolving doors back in 1873, our client knew that Boon Edam Ltd were more than experienced in this field. Having initially discussed their needs and expectations and by providing examples of previous timber based revolving doors, Boon Edam were able to easily supply the client with a design they were after.

6 Dramatic display Artist Cathy Azria works to commission and designs unique made-to-measure, sculpture fireplaces. Here, in her latest installation, Cathy’s signature design, ‘Bonfire’, is situated in a chimney breast encased in cross cut Eramosa marble slabs creating a dramatic fireside effect. The steel rods stand tall within the fireplace, giving the sculpture a powerful presence whether the fire is lit or unlit. As the flames lick through the rods, they begin to glow and ‘crackle’ as the metal heats and expands. Bonfire brings the idea of burning branches inside the house in a smart, stylish way. Each sculpture is handmade to special commission, signed and numbered by Cathy. Prices start from £3,000. www.bd-designs.co.uk

The rows of Tagg stools and benches provided by furniture supplier UHS Group have been paired with work bench style tables, and the exposed brick walls bring an elegant touch of the old textile mills of Northern England in the Industrial Revolution. Chairs from UHS Group’s spindle-back range (Lena, Hula, and Tarantella) contribute to the artisanal, crafted, and quality feel of a bygone era. The Mel chair and butcher-block table tops make “The Spinning Jenny” look contemporary and sophisticated, as do the touches of colour splashed around the space. www.uhs-group.com
14 Dramatic display Smart Fire UK part of £1M renovation at Hoar Cross Hall When the historic Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel wanted to restore its magnificent fireplaces, they turned to Smart Fire UK. However, with the chimneys and flues blocked up, they had to turn to alternative methods and called in Smart Fire UK, the country’s sole distributor of bio-ethanol EcoSmart fires. These green fires are fuelled entirely by bio-ethanol, a clean burning liquid, which means they need no chimney, flue or extraction system. They were the perfect fit for Hoar Cross Hall. The EcoSmart burners were fitted into the existing fireplaces with additional brass and marble surrounds incorporated into the designs.
13
In addition to supplying six fires for the restoration project, Smart Fire UK also supplied the hotel with two freestanding fires which can be moved around to suit the hotels requirements. sales@smartfireuk.com l www.smartfireuk.com

Creation Privée piece inspired by its owner’s passion for cigars A One-Of-A-Kind Writing Instrument Crafted From Tobacco Leaves Pushes The Boundaries Of Artisanship When it comes to creating a made-toorder piece, anything becomes possible with Creation Privée, Montblanc’s ultimate bespoke offering. Each creation is a rare work of art, a personal edition that reflects the tastes and vision of its owner. Armed with fearless creativity and virtuoso skills, the designers and craftsmen at the Artisan Atelier take on the challenge of turning any concept and material into a one-of-a-kind piece, including organic materials such as tobacco leaves. Prepared in the right way, these thin and fragile leaves are transformed into a writing instrument so distinctive that it is impossible to replicate. A creative collaboration between Montblanc and its owner, the Figurado Creation Privée is custom-designed to mirror the shape and look of an exceptional cigar with the cap and barrel of the writing instrument covered in the finest cigar leaves. For every Creation Privée, designers and artisans work closely with the owner throughout the manufacturing process, interacting regularly on the most minute design details and offering progress updates via webcam. New techniques were explored to bring this vision to life: from extracting the oil from the leaves before masterfully wrapping them around the metal body of the fountain pen, to protecting them with a cellulose coating similar to the one used for the restoration of old paintings, and covering them with an emulsion of several lacquers. Emulating an authentic cigar, the Artisan Atelier designers have re-imagined a custom-designed banderol wrapped around the fountain pen. Crafted like a writing jewel using the finest materials, the instrument features a retractable Au 750 gold nib, a precious tourmaline in the cone, white gold fittings set with
tourmaline stones and a Montblanc diamond on the cap top. The Montblanc diamond is as unique as the Creation Privée it crowns. It takes its unusual shape from the legendary brand emblem created over 100 years ago as a symbol of the highest standard of craftsmanship inspired by Europe’s highest mountain. Thus, the Mont Blanc massif, with its six snow-white glaciers, became a famous emblem – an emblem now captured for eternity in diamond. Because this 1/1 edition is best stored under constant climate conditions due to its organic nature, a special humidor-style presentation box was crafted from the finest wood with a glass viewing panel so the fountain pen can be admired without having to open the box. The writing instrument is safely stored inside a dedicated compartment alongside the owner’s collection of rare cigars, and an assortment of handcrafted accessories
designed to accompany the cigarshaped writing instrument including a traditional cigar holder, a tobacco leaf lighter and an ashtray. Montblanc Creation Privée focuses as much on the process as it does on the finished product. Because nothing is more fascinating than being able to watch one's own vision transformed into an outstanding writing instrument, the future owner of the exclusive personal edition is invited to follow selected fascinating steps of the creative process via webcam witnessing in real-time the most experienced artisans, jewellers, diamond setters, engravers and nib finishers devoting all their passion and skill to forming something truly inimitable. Beyond the design details, every Création Privée possesses an exclusive quality that comes directly from those who create it – a soul with a brilliance entirely of its own. For more information on Creation Privée, please contact your local Montblanc Boutique.
Bentley Continental Gt Speed Breitling Jet Team
Seven limited edition Continental GT Speeds inspired by famed jets Handcrafted models take Mulliner customisation to new heights Continental GT Speed is fastest production Bentley ever
112
Bentley is taking its fusion of luxury and performance to new extremes with the launch of the Continental GT Speed Breitling Jet Team Series. This exclusive series is limited to just seven cars, each inspired by one of the seven Breitling Jets. Renowned for their precision, speed and daring, this summer the Breitling Jet Team will be performing across the United States and Canada in a grand tour of epic proportions. To commemorate this spectacle, Bentley’s Mulliner division has re-imagined the Continental GT Speed to mirror the distinctive look of the Breitling Jets, fusing extreme customisation with immense speed.
113
The exterior is painted in a striking duo-tone split of Hallmark and Onyx with highlights colour matched to the exact Pantone of Breitling’s unique Yellow, reflecting the trademark look of the L-39 Albatros Jets. This bespoke colour theme is continued on the interior, with unique sculpted seats featuring accents in Breitling Yellow. Taking customisation to new heights, each car is individually numbered and corresponds to one of the seven Breitling Jets. The dashboard’s carbon fibre fascia panel displays an image of the seven planes in their signature Avenger flight formation, with the corresponding jet highlighted in Breitling Yellow.
www.bentleymotors.com
114
Similarly, Mulliner has matched the hide and thread to Breitling’s signature yellow and designed a series of logos and graphics for the headrests that highlight the number of each car and the jet that inspired it. The tread plate plaques are also individually numbered. The series will debut at the Boeing Seafair Airshow on 31st July in Seattle, where the Breitling Jet Team is performing. The key for each car will be handed over to its owner by the corresponding plane’s pilot, but not until they have experienced a flight in the jet that inspired their car. Geoff Dowding, Director of Mulliner, said: “The Continental GT Speed Breitling Jet Team Series demonstrates the level of customisation Mulliner can achieve for customers. Creating this very special edition has been an exciting experience for the entire team, taking inspiration from the Breitling Jet Team’s grand tour.”

Guests arriving at L’Eden by Perrier-Jouët were welcomed into the exclusive penthouse suite, transformed for the occasion by luxuriant vegetation, which combined with avant-garde lighting and design to create a captivating immersive experience. Among the space’s spectacular installations were a living green photo booth, an organic bar
with indigenous Miami orals, and an enchanted tree, the brainchild of London-based designer Tord Boontje. L’Eden by Perrier-Jouët is scheduled to remain open throughout the duration of Design Miami/ 2015, with its extravagant natural installations mysteriously transforming from day to night to offer visitors distinct ambiances and unique experiences. L’Eden by Perrier-Jouët is the latest and boldest manifestation of the House’s historic mission to bring beauty to utility and poetry to everyday life. Founded in 1811, Maison Perrier-Jouët has a long and proud legacy of associations with art and nature. These include its commissioning in 1902 of the Art Nouveau master Emile Gallé to design the white anemone motif which decorates its iconic Cuvée Belle Epoque champagne bottle. Perrier-Jouët’s most recent creative collaboration, with Japanese artist Ritsue Mishima, is being unveiled at Design Miami/ 2015. Her experiential installation in Murano glass, entitled All’ombra della luce (In the shadow of light), was partly inspired by the garden of Perrier-Jouët’s historic Maison Belle Epoque in Epernay. Perrier-Jouët believes the role of nature is very important with its almost mystical power to conjure a sense of beauty and wonderment – an enchantment experienced by all who stepped inside L’Eden by PerrierJouët. Coinciding with its presence at Design Miami/, Maison PerrierJouët is also opening an enchanted pop-up space within the Travel Retail department of Miami International Airport. www.perrierjouet.com
