SUPER VILLAS TAILOR-MADE FOR SUMMER GATHERINGS
Picture the scene: three or four generations of family gather together on the expansive terrace of a sparkling white villa, surrounded by lush tropical gardens and overlooking cerulean seas. Smiling staff deliver sundowners and sushi, while grandparents catch up with younger family members about their fun day exploring the island, teenagers take each other on in a pickleball game, and parents simply relax to the sound of waves gently lapping the shore and friendly chatter.
Sounds like the vacation of dreams doesn’t it? And yet all of that and more is easily achievable with a stay at one of Little Harbour Estates super villas on the paradise island of Anguilla in the British Caribbean.
Managing Director Danielle Barker says “Asafamily-ownedandrun business, ourvillasweredesigned toappealtolargefamilygroups andtheyhavealwaysmadeupa significantproportionofbookings throughouttheyear.Sincethe pandemicthough, thatproportion hasdramaticallyincreasedfrom around 45% to over 80%.”
Barker notes that these groups often book across the summer months, primarily to coincide with long school holidays for those in the northern hemisphere, with the added incentive of lowerpriced flights and lower rates for accommodation. Late April to October is considered to be low season in the Caribbean, yet the temperature is consistently in the high twenties all year round, with an average 8.3 hours of sunshine every day.
The ‘bank of Mum and Dad’, or BoMaD, often comes into play, with one grandparent or parent often taking the role of party lead.
“What’sgreatforourguestsin workingwithasmallindependent business such as ours is that once thepartyleadhasdonethehard workoffindingdatestosuit everyoneinthegroup, welookafter literallyeverythingelse” explains Barker.
From detailed dietary preference sheets to bespoke activities and excursions for the group to take part in together or in smaller subsets, the Little Harbour Estates team has it covered.
Through consultation with Executive Chef (and island legend) Kelston ‘Sweets’ Connor ahead of the stay, and personal collaboration during their stay, guests can be assured of the highest quality dining served in the style, and location, that suits them best. Options include full kosherisation and other specialist diets, as well as children’s menus. Dine on the pool deck, among the gardens, on the terrace, in the dining room or even on the beach, toes in the sand.

The Beach House
NEW FOR 2025
Ahead of the current season, each of the three villas has been refreshed inside and out - new Pickleball courts are proving to be especially popular. In addition:
New outdoor and indoor dining furniture has been added to The Beach House (sleeps 16, from $12,650 USD per night*), enhancing its sleek and stylish design and offering even more comfortable vantage points over stunning Meads Bay, recently voted #3 Best Beach in the World
• A favourite for those that prefer a more homely setting, new soft furnishings at Indigo (sleeps 20, from $8,200 USD per night*) bring a fresh new look to the interiors, complementing the villa’s traditional design and aligning with Anguilla’s natural colour palette
• Guests in smaller groups, with less vacation time to take and a greater desire to explore Anguilla’s wider charms can also take advantage of reduced occupancy rates on a B&B basis only at Indigo, with special rates available for 5-, 7-, or full 10-room occupancy
• The main house at Le Bleu along with separate Petit Le Bleu (sleeps 20 across both properties, from $10,120 per night*) have both been freshly redecorated, with new day beds around the second swimming pool at Petit Le Bleu.
ROOM FOR ALL
Each villa was carefully designed to include a separate, smaller property offering self-contained additional accommodation away from the
main house, although as Barker explains, their occupancy has changed over the years.
“Thirtyyearsago, itwasalwaysthe grandparentsthatlaidclaimtothe guesthouse,” she says. “Each one has afully-fittedkitchen,livingspace, bathrooms and two bedrooms so theyareentirelyself-sufficient, anditwasagoodwayfortheolder generationtoensurethatthey enjoyedthepeaceandquietthat

Each of these spaces has been designed to ensure that residents experience Bentley as a part of their journey, both in and out of the building.
Bentley designers have led the design of the project, working closely with Dezer Development and Sieger Suarez Architects. Their expertise has shaped the exquisitely designed building and its interior, and they have worked hard to carefully integrate Bentley design throughout each and every corner.
Ben Saltmer, Bentley Product and Lifestyle Design Manager, adds: “We haveappliedthesameattention todetailthatgoesintoourcars intothisverybuilding.Eachspace is different, but with distinctive Bentleydesigncuesstyled harmoniouslythroughout–right down to a functional area like the BentleyPetSpaconcept.Despite practicalitybeingparamount, the area should have an elevated experience.Weachievethisthrough exquisitematerialityandsubtle Bentleydesignsignatures, anethos we’vefollowedthroughoutthe designofthebuilding–forinstance inthepetspa,we’veusedthe Bentleydiamondmotifwhengiving thesurfacesanon-slipquality. The aim is to bring residents together as a community, fostering an atmosphere of relaxation, while remaining social. Each space has been carefully curated to maximise comfort and luxury, and to subtly bring Bentley’s design DNA throughout each detail.

HEESEN KICKS OFF 2025 WITH 11 YACHTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND FIVE DELIVERIES SCHEDULED
Despite global and political uncertainties Heesen Yachts is anticipating a strong 2025, with 11 yachts under construction and deliveries scheduled through to 2027.
Anticipated highlights for 2025 include the delivery of five yachts: 55m Solemates (just launched), 55m Serena, 50m Orion, 55m Agnetha, and 55m Frida, showcasing the Dutch superyacht builder’s expertise in crafting exceptional vessels ranging from 50m to 80m. This year continues to build on the success of 2024, where Heesen sold three yachts and reported a recordbreaking revenue year.
In a shifting global landscape, Heesen remains at the forefront of the superyacht industry, ensuring its products resonate with the fast-changing demands of the UHNW community. This commitment is underscored by their dedication to innovation and bespoke craftsmanship, meeting the evolving demands of their discerning clientele.
This year marks a new chapter for Heesen with the recent appointment of Ruud van der Stroom as CCO in September 2024. YACHTS TO BE DELIVERED IN 2025:
55 metre – Solemates, previously Project Venus – Launched January 2025
Overview: Heesen’s Solemates is a 55-metre steel superyacht, launched
Ruud van der Stroom
Solemates
January 2025. Designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, she features an elegant and muscular profile with horizontal lines that emphasise her length, complemented by continuous tinted glass on the main and upper decks.
Performance: Solemates reaches a top speed of 15.5 knots. Her efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form, developed in collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects, provides a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots.
Design: The interior of Project Venus has been customised by Luca Dini Design and Architecture to reflect the owner’s refined taste and lifestyle. Notable features include a French balcony in the owner’s apartment, offering a private outdoor space, and expansive outdoor and indoor areas designed for relaxation and socialising, all while maintaining access to charming Mediterranean harbours.
One of the yacht’s most captivating features is the redesigned main staircase, adorned with acrylic panels embedded with gold flakes and crystals, creating an enchanting visual experience. The bridge deck salon has been crafted to promote family gatherings, while the sundeck boasts an expanded jacuzzi and adjacent bar, ideal for socializing amidst breathtaking ocean vistas.
Overview: A 50-metre aluminium hybrid yacht, scheduled for delivery in Q1 of 2025 Orion is Heesen’s most sustainable focused superyacht to date. Designed by Omega Architects with interiors by Cristiano Gatto, she accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms, including a master suite on the main deck and a full-beam VIP suite on the lower deck.
Performance: Orion achieves a top speed of 16.3 knots. She is crafted from lightweight aluminium to
minimise weight, which combined with hybrid-electric propulsion, will allow her to cruise silently and use only 45 litres of fuel per hour at speeds of up to 10 knots. This marks a 30% reduction from a motor yacht of this size powered by traditional diesel engines. As well as being ultra efficient, the hybrid engine also allows the yacht to cruise in virtual silence.
When cruising in hybrid mode the noise level sits at approximately 46 decibels — the equivalent of the sound of softly falling rain—

so guests can experience the environment in total tranquillity. It also means that the yacht has the flexibility to move locations without disturbing guests on board.
Design: Orion features a striking profile with a near-vertical bow and expansive floor-toceiling windows, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. The contemporary interior design maximises natural light and offers sweeping sea views, with open bulwarks and a layout ideal for both private and charter use.
55 metre - Serena
Overview: Launched in 2024, featuring a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Serena is designed by Omega Architects with interiors by Luca Dini Design & Architecture, she accommodates up to 12 guests and 13 crew members. Her size means she can easily enter nearly all ports in the Mediterranean while still offering owners ample space to enjoy life at sea.
Performance: Serena reaches a top speed of 15.5 knots. She boasts a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots, supported by a fuel capacity of 100,000 litres.
Design: Serena’s exterior showcases larger windows and assertive shapes, lending a modern and aggressive edge to her profile. The interior features light woods, smoked eucalyptus, bronze metal accents, and Amazonite marble inlays, creating a homely and welcoming atmosphere.

Agnetha
55 metre – Project Agnetha
Overview: Project Agnetha is a 55-metre steel motor yacht, currently under construction and scheduled for delivery in Q2, 2025. As the latest addition to Heesen’s renowned 55-metre Steel series, she features an elegant and muscular profile designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects.
Performance: Project Agnetha is expected to reach a top speed of 15.5 knots. Her ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form ensures she can navigate safely in all sea conditions, offering a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots.
Design: Project Agnetha’s exterior showcases horizontal lines and expansive tinted glass, enhancing her visual length and modern appeal. The superstructure is adorned with a “shark tooth”, which is a smart design signature on the overhang of the wheelhouse that lends a powerful personality. The interior, crafted by Luca Dini Design and Architecture, focuses on creating a cosy and traditional atmosphere with warm tones, providing a welcoming environment for up to 12 guests across six staterooms.

SUNREEF REVEALS THE CUSTOM INTERIOR OF ITS NEW 35M ECO SAILING CATAMARAN
Luxury catamaran builder
Sunreef has revealed the first interior renderings of its new Sunreef 35M Eco sailing yacht, sold late last year.
Bright with both natural light and natural materials in a pale palette, the yacht’s accommodation will provide a home on the high seas and a peerless entertaining platform. The new images give an insight into the exclusive yachting lifestyle facilitated by Sunreef.
The Sunreef 35M Eco is the newest model in the Polish brand’s growing superyacht fleet. The owner of this first hull has chosen to make use of Sunreef’s large in-house interior design team to develop the layout and styling. The result is an impressive balance between lightweight efficiency and high-end finish.
A new level of detailing throughout the yacht includes custom-made 3D structured panels in wood and leather – made to order by Italian craftsmen. There’s eco leather in the main ceiling panels as well as illuminated linen, to create a cosy atmosphere using sustainable materials. Then top quality French bouclé fabric for the upholstery and brushed bronze accents generate extra warmth.
“Wearedelightedtoshareforthe firsttimedetailsofanexceptional interiorforanexceptionalyacht,” said Sunreef founder and owner Francis Lapp. “The35MEcoispart ofSunreef’snewsuperyachtline. Commissionedbyanexperienced owner, theyachtisproofthat Sunreef continues to define new standardsinluxuryyachtbuilding.”
Masterful main-deck stateroom
One of the notable features of this design is the positioning of the
owner’s suite forward on the main deck, rather than lower down in a hull. This privileged position affords fantastic views across 270 degrees of the horizon through floor-toceiling glazing. Not only that, but the owner also enjoys private access to the foredeck lounge through a dedicated sea door.
The suite occupies the full 14.7m beam of the yacht, making it second only to the saloon in terms of space. It means there is plenty of room for a super kingsize bed with sea views,
as well as sofas and a vanity table. Underfoot, the recessed woollen carpet is laid on super-soft Cloud 9 backing for the ultimate superyacht finish. Meanwhile, subtle mirrored panels overhead create a luxurious sense of volume.
A separate walk-in dressing area is accessed through a discrete sliding door, and the bathroom is divided by a frosted glass wall. An elegant sculptural bathtub and his ‘n hers basins are the stand out features here, moulded in beautiful limestone-effect composite. Underfloor heating and even heated stone seating in the shower add refined comfort.
A further four guest cabins are laid out in the two hulls – three flexible twins/doubles and an even larger VIP, again with a super kingsize bed oriented athwartships. This is the choice of the guest accommodation, and features its own sofa corner and a his ‘n hers shower room –both with generous storage. All the cabins offer fantastic headroom and a mixture of wardrobe and cupboard space.
Crew accommodation is also generous, with separate cabins for the captain and first mate and space overall for up to six crew. Service and access have been carefully thought through, to ensure the minimum with guests, so the galley and mess are accessed via discrete stairs located just outside the main saloon.
Once you’ve arrived at a new bay or inlet, the Ocean Lounge becomes a centre for life on board. Reached down broad steps aft, this is a huge expanse of decking right on the water. Fold-down bulwarks and a lowering platform expand the space into an incredible 90-squaremetre sun zone or a launch-pad for swimming and watersports. There’s plenty of room to store two jet skis in the aft garage, along with a host of smaller toys from foilboards to Seabobs.
So many ways to relax
Social space forms the heart and soul of the Sunreef 35M Eco, with the choice of indoor and outdoor areas for different activities.
The saloon dominates the main deck, offering dining for eight, comfortable U-shaped sofas and a four-person bar. Generous headroom makes this a fantastic location for chilling with the family, entertaining close friends or throwing a party.
A four-panel glass door aft slides away completely to open this space up to the main aft deck outside. Flush decking gives the sense of seamless transition to the exterior saloon, where there is another bar, more casual seating and sunbeds aplenty. Here you can admire the anchorage or watch the ocean when under way.
But the biggest draw is undoubtedly the 100 square metre flybridge, which constitutes the boat’s most attractive exterior real estate. Owners can configure this deck as they please, with this first owner opting to preserve lots of open space for parties. All the same, there’s room enough for an elegantly curved five-place bar, cosy U-shaped sofas and a fantastic plunge pool surrounded with sunpads.
Efficient operator
The twin helms are also up here, for any owner-drivers who like to get their hands on the sailing controls. With its towering rig and a generous sail area, the yacht will perform well on all points of sail, with fast passage speeds well into double figures. Although very much at home in the Mediterranean
hotspots, she would equally make a fantastic bluewater sailing platform.
The boat’s abilities are enhanced by a long inventory of smart technology designed to keep the generator switched off for as long as possible. Chief among these is the expanse of powerful solar panels which Sunreef has built into every surface of the topsides and superstructure. At anchor, these pump enough electricity into the boat’s huge battery bank to keep the generator off for 8-10 hours overnight.
Couple that with the power regenerated by the propellers when the boat is under sail, and you can live independently of fossil fuels. After longer passages, the boat arrives with the batteries topped up and ready to power the hotel systems through the night. It is a powerful way to reduce the operational footprint of the yacht.
When there is a need for auxiliary power, Sunreef’s state-of-the-art electric drivetrain can provide silent, emissions-free propulsion. That’s perfect for entering or leaving port, or creeping out of an anchorage. No noise and no diesel fumes ensure the best possible experience for guests and other boats. Only for longer windless passages does the generator come into play.
“Forthesakeofgenerationsto come, we take our environmental responsibilitiesasayachtbuilder extremelyseriously,” said Lapp. “The Sunreef 35 Eco is built in the most energyefficientwayweknowhow, andcanintegrateahostofrecycled materials.Thankstothehugesolar arrayandtheelectricalpropulsion systemwehavepioneered, the yachtislesscarbonintensiveto operate.”
Work has already begun on the Sunreef Eco 35M, with delivery slated for 2028.
FROM MASTERCHEF TO MEGAYACHT
They say life is all about timing and for the head chef of superyacht HBC Andrew Durham, this has certainly been the case. Stepping into the yacht’s galley while moored in Antigua, we sat down with Andrew to learn more about his extraordinary culinary journey.
Andrew is no stranger to life at sea, but it hasn’t always been on board a superyacht. His first experience as a professional chef was in the Royal Navy, cooking for thousands of Royal Marines.
Recognised for his natural talent, he was selected for the Navy competition team and represented the service around the world, participating in prestigious competitions such as the Culinary Olympics and the World Cup.
Just eight people from the British Army, Navy, and RAF are chosen to form one team. “There are thousands of people at the Culinary Olympics in a huge stadium. There’s an opening ceremony where you
walk out with your flags, and it’s very much like the sporting Olympics,” he recalls.
Following this, he became a chef lecturer for the Navy, teaching professional cookery until he was chosen as the Admiral’s personal chef, and he then cooked for royalty and foreign dignitaries in a stately home in Portsmouth.
So, after 13 years, why did he leave? “Without sounding arrogant, I had achieved everything. I had every award, and there was nowhere left to go – no progression for me other than a desk job, and that’s not me –I’m a chef. That’s what fills me with joy.”
During his 12-month notice period, Andrew applied for the TV show MasterChef: The Professionals and made it the final five out of an initial 48 contestants. The show was aired in 2019 and riding high
on a wave of success, Andrew was approached by the Gordon Ramsay Group, restaurants in Hong Kong, and even a millionaire who wanted to build an eco-restaurant for Andrew to run.
So how did he make the move into superyachts? “Actually, it’s all part of the same story. After MasterChef, one of the phone calls I received was from a superyacht captain who had watched the show. He said, “With your experience in the Navy, I think you’d be a great fit as a head chef on a yacht.” And I said, ‘Oh, amazing. That’s great - but no, thank you.
I’m off to work for Gordon Ramsay! I’m going to go and open my own restaurant.’” However, with the culmination of Brexit, Covid, and the Cost-of-Living Crisis, saw Andrew having to close the restaurant. “I remembered the call from that captain, and I found him
on LinkedIn.” Andrew was on a flight to Barcelona five days later to resume life at sea.
A far cry from the industrial galley kitchens of his Navy days, Andrew’s galley on HBC is on a whole different level – quite literally. Situated on the yacht’s upper deck, not only does he get the panoramic views, but the galley is located next to the main dining area. “It’s prime real estate,” he laughs. This means he can easily communicate with the crew, and his food is off the pass and onto the table in seconds.
Charterers of HBC can enjoy formal dining in the circular upper deck dining room. Retractable glass doors allow this space to be opened to aft, creating a free-flowing
dynamic to the exterior lounge space. For al fresco feasts and more casual lunches, the bridge deck is the location of choice, where an enormous dining table can be shaded to suit and meals come accompanied by a gentle ocean breeze.
The demands on a superyacht chef are huge, and there is constant pressure, but Andrew relishes the challenge. “I’ve learned so much in yachting. Every chef has their thing, whether that’s Thai food, modern British or classic French, but every charter somebody asks for a dish I’ve never heard of, and then I’ll have to look it up. So now, I know about Lebanese food, I know about Mexican food. You have to have the skill to meet any request.”
Food is an integral part of every charter, and the dining experience aboard HBC is a journey in itself. From buffet breakfasts on the aft deck to long, lazy lunches with a view and exquisite multi-course tasting menu dinners. “It will feel like you’re in a different restaurant every day – we create a theme for each evening with different cuisines, different atmospheres, different music. It’s always a unique and memorable dining experience,” says Andrew.
HBC is an 85.65m superyacht that operates with a crew of 28. There’s accommodation for 12 guests onboard, and the yacht can be chartered from €850,000 per week.
Falcon Tenders is the apex builder of high performance superyacht tenders. It produces custom limousines and open crewed launches for the discerning yacht owner.
The LAZZARA UHV 100 (30.48M/100’00”) sets a new benchmark in the ultra-highvolume yacht market, offering unmatched interior and exterior space. With 2,800 sq. ft. of interior space and 1,345 sq. ft. of exterior decks, she delivers the luxury and livability of a yacht twice her size.
LAZZARA UHV 100 MOTOR YACHT FOR SALE
The LAZZARA UHV 100’s 6’/1.83M draft allows effortless access to shallow cruising areas, from secluded islands to the coastlines of North America. A foredeck dip pool, beach club, and submersible swim platform elevate onboard relaxation, while expansive exterior decks offer uninterrupted ocean views from all areas.
Performance meets efficiency with twin Volvo Penta engines, allowing her to reach a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Built with superyachtlevel engineering, she eliminates through-hulls and flexible hoses, ensuring a robust and maintenancefriendly design rarely seen in yachts under 150 feet.
A true home on the water, the LAZZARA UHV 100 embodies the brand’s legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and excellence. Set to launch in June 2025, this yacht presents an outstanding opportunity and will consider trades.

Backed by a lifetime hull warranty, she reflects Lazzara’s attention to detail and is the best long-term investment for modern yacht construction.
Accommodating 10 guests across 5 staterooms, including the full beam Owner’s Stateroom on the main deck, she provides an unparalleled level of comfort. In addition, the crew quarters aft feature 5 berths and a dedicated crew galley.
The UHV (Ultra High Volume) 100 offers not only the largest volume in this market space but also the best technology in design.

The first floor offers a sumptuous principal bedroom suite. The suite offers windows on three sides and consists of a large bedroom with built-in Poliform joinery, a dressing room and a beautiful bathroom with Italian marble bespoke vanity unit with twin sinks, Vado sanitaryware and Lefka freestanding bath, as well as a shower.
The second floor comprises two further excellent en-suite bedrooms, both with built-in storage and shower rooms.

LOUIS VUITTON “NEW FORMAL“ MENSWEAR PRE-COLLECTION SPRING-SUMMER 2025
Louis Vuitton is pleased to present its Formal menswear pre-collection for SpringSummer 2025.
A new chapter in an elevated Louis Vuitton wardrobe, this Formal collection bridges the fall backto-work season through yearend celebrations with timeless cuts, sophisticated tailoring and luxurious fabrics in both mid-season and winter weights. A versatile colour palette accentuated by luminous grays and earthy tones
builds on classic shades of black, navy, and white, and is offset by pops of jewel-toned velvet, subtle beading, and new codes presented in Pharrell Williams’ first runway show as Men’s Creative Director.
Modern office essentials like double-breasted coats and straightcut trousers are complemented by statement outerwear and knits, for example a double-breasted shearling coat and a new cardigan with a shawl collar, while a vicuna blouson blends ultimate luxury with a relaxed attitude.
Embellished evening pieces, such as a cardigan with the new LV Cursive signature embroidered in gold, pair naturally with a buttondown, cigarette trousers and the new Auteuil moccasin in patent leather with a subtle gradient Damier finish. For the most formal occasions, a three-piece velvet tuxedo with subtly contrasting satin trim takes an offhand air when paired with a white plastron shirt and a LV Cursive bow tie in silk. In a key statement look, the LV Cursive evening jacket and cigarette trousers come fully embellished
with the new “Damoflage“ signature introduced by Pharrell Williams.
The Louis Vuitton Formal collection continues to build out its lineup of sophisticated, high-end leather goods for a refined, businessminded clientele. New this season is the understated, versatile Taiga Avenue Messenger, a sophisticated, compact and adjustable cross-body bag in classic black, while smaller leather goods like wallets, billfolds, pocket organizers and card holders are also available in this season’s gray with a blue lining. A modern alternative to the briefcase, the Sac Plat horizontal zip-bag in Monogram Eclipse represents a versatile, business-appropriate addition to an iconic accessories range.
The exceptional Millésime line, crafted exclusively from highquality calf leathers from the Domaine des Massifs, is enriched this season with the Georges Pouch. Designed to accompany the Georges tote, this elegant business essential brings a fresh shape and enhanced functionality to a new House icon. For the launch of this Formal collection, the Georges duo is available in either classic black or sophisticated gray. Classic yet modern footwear includes the Varenne Richelieu and Chelsea boots in waxed calf leather, discreetly embellished with Monogram flower stitching on the upper and discreet embossing
on the outer sole, now available in a new shade of deep burgundy in addition to mocha and black.
The new Kensington Derby and Loafer are presented in a mix of calf leather and textured Epi leather for textural interest, with a Monogram flower embroidered discreetly at
the heel seam. Complementary accessories complete the lineup, including reversible scarves in soft wool, a lightweight cashmere scarf, LV Lovers striped ties, fitted LV beanies, and leather and exotic belts with metal or sliver sterling LV buckles.
LV Legacy sunglasses, expertly crafted in Japanese acetate and titanium, finish looks with an elevated allure. The LV Padlock, now in an elegant silvered palladium finish with the House insignia engraved in gray enamel, adds a subtle touch of sophistication, whether used as a key ring or a bag charm.
The Louis Vuitton Formal men’s wear collection for Spring-Summer 2025 will be available in stores on August 29th.

LOUIS VUITTON X MURAKAMI,
Actor and singer Zendaya stars in the campaign for Louis Vuitton x Murakami, the extensive re-edition of the House’s collaboration with renowned contemporary artist Takashi Murakam.
Playful, pop and celebratory, Louis Vuitton × Murakami is a remarkable re-edition collection released to mark the 20th anniversary of the iconic collaboration between the House and the renowned Japanese artist.
Featuring over 200 pieces rom bags to footwear, fragrances to sunglasses – the collection reunites Louis Vuitton’s unrelenting commitment to creativity, innovation and savoir-faire with Takashi Murakami’s supremely imaginative and colourful artistic universe.
Paying homage to this enduring creative bond, the accompanying Louis Vuitton × Murakami campaign stars American actor, singer and Louis Vuitton House Ambassador, Zendaya, in a series of exuberant and audacious images created by renowned Dutch photographers, Inez and Vinoodh.
The perfect embodiment of the collaboration’s modern energy and creative spirit, Zendaya wears pieces from the collection, while playfully interacting with Takashi Murakami’s fun and fantastical artworks created exclusively for the Louis Vuitton × Murakami reedition – all framed within a series of epic and evocative cityscapes.
In the multi-layered collages, Murakami’s charming Superflat Garden floral motifs, as well as his whimsical Superflat and Superflat Panda characters, jubilantly spring up in spectacular locations, joining Zendaya on city skylines, amusement-park rollercoasters, historic city bridges, and in lush urban parks.
To further express the playful energy of the campaign, the Superflat Garden flowers spill out of the picture frame, while Superflat and Superflat Panda mischievously displace the opening letters of the signature Louis Vuitton logo, the first time the House’s name has ever been physically altered in a campaign.
The campaign images are accompanied by two short films: a teaser that sees Takashi Murakami send an early 2000s-era, flip-top mobile phone from his hometown in Tokyo to New York, where, as Zendaya flips it open, the reedition characters joyfully burst out from the phone’s screen; and a vibrant, light-hearted campaign video featuring Zendaya playing and dancing with Superflat Garden flowers, Superflat, and Superflat Panda in the same locations as the print images.
Across the campaign imagery, Zendaya wears a range of sophisticated and upbeat designs from the wide-ranging Louis Vuitton × Murakami re-edition collection.
These include eye-catching, reedited versions of classic Louis Vuitton bags such as the All In BB, Speedy 25, OnTheGo, Keepall, and Capucines Mini; as well as kittenish Monogram Mules; luxurious Bandeau silk scarves; and brightly coloured belts in Louis Vuitton leather.
The campaign for Louis Vuitton × Murakami featuring Zendaya is an era-hopping and eye-popping celebration of both the reedition collection’s contemporary relevance and the original collaboration’s status as a seminal moment in 21st-century fashion, collector, and popular culture.
BAMBOO
CHAUMET PARIS
A tribute to Asia, the new High Jewellery creative capsule collection Bamboo writes a new chapter in the history woven between Chaumet and nature for over 240 years. At the intersection of earth and sky, it boldly captures the pure beauty of bamboo and illustrates the tenacity of this exemplar of enduring nature.
CHAUMET, PEERLESS NATURALIST JEWELLER
Echoing empress Joséphine’s passion for botany, the maison has set itself apart as a “naturalist jeweller” since its beginnings, when its founder, Marie-Etienne Nitot, marked his correspondence with this denotation.
Nature has thus reigned uncontestably over the Chaumet stylistic repertoire for more than 240 years. Whether figurative or stylised, the Maison has infused its creations with a multitude of expressions of its most cherished motifs. Over time and reflecting the tastes of successive eras, each of the thirteen workshop managers has reinterpreted the emblematic theme of nature in their own way, but always captured in the moment, as an ode to life and movement.
In 2025, the Bamboo creative capsule collection perpetuates the historic links the Maison maintains with nature. By celebrating the majestic beauty of bamboo as an introduction, Chaumet offers a preview of the theme of its new High Jewellery collection: a tribute to naturalist treasures, fusing the wonders provided by nature with the savoir-faire of supremely skilled jewellers, in the process celebrating and preserving the preciousness of the natural world.
Paying homage to Asian culture, Chaumet surprises by seizing upon the majesty of bamboo – a plant relatively underrepresented in its stylistic repertoire, apart from two sketches dating from the time of Fossin. Imbued with rich symbolism – integrity, determination and modest y in China, prosperity in Japan – bamboo is the subject of a ten-piece graphic parure.
Playing with paradoxes, it honours the identity of a plant that rises majestically towards the sky and is able to bend without breaking. Engraved yellow gold also dialogues to striking contrast with the white gold.
Lending contemporary impact to the neckline, the bib necklace is composed of graphic leaves and stems. Its plunging ‘V’ shape recalls some of the highly modern sketches and pieces from the storied heritage, testifying to the characteristically Chaumet style in which its design is inscribed.
The masterful use of articulation, another emblematic technique of the Maison’s savoir-faire, gives it surprising suppleness, just as the combination of bead bright and cut-down settings testifies to the preeminence of the 12 Vendôme artisans.
The shimmering gold is enhanced by a superb 13.19-carat black Australian opal, whose vivid fire flickers with an original
combination of colours, from bright blue to apple green, gorgeously complemented by tsavorite garnets.
This contrast-rich palette is also repeated on three bold brooches. The first can be transformed into a hair ornament, the second is made up of two distinct elements designed to be worn as a pair, while the third features highly flexible diamond bands.
Three rings play on the same association of gems and colours but stand apart through their singularity.
While the first is topped with a 7.24-carat cushion-cut tsavorite garnet, the second revisits the toi
et moi motif in an unexpected way, where the garnet’s intensity is reflected in the opal fires. With its elongated form accentuating the capsule’s defining slender silhouette, the third wraps the finger with finesse.
Representing an incomparable Maison signature, a tiara crowns this powerful parure. Abstraction meets goldsmithing excellence in the foliage’s hand-engraved goldwork to infuse the jewel with a vital momentum.
DE BEERS JEWELLERS INTRODUCES ESSENCE OF NATURE: HIGH JEWELLERY INSPIRED BY THE MAJESTY OF TREES
De Beers Jewellers proudly unveils Essence of Nature, Chapter One: a masterfully crafted High Jewellery collection that pays homage to the beauty and symbolism of trees. Mother Nature is the House’s eternal muse, and Chapter One introduces a unique and unexpected source of creative inspiration.
As the only House with a direct connection to the Source of its diamonds, De Beers Jewellers’ creativity is driven by a deep appreciation of Nature, through boldly original designs that redefine the classical codes of High Jewellery. The new collection celebrates trees as a symbol of unwavering strength and support, through wearable works of art that spark a profound affinity with the raw beauty of nature. Rough and polished green, yellow and white diamonds evoke the majesty and mystery of ancient woodlands, from the roots that interlace deep beneath the Earth to the magnificent canopies that reach gracefully towards the sky.
Three High Jewellery sets epitomise the House’s contemporary and creative aesthetic. The Embrace set is an abstract ode to roots that unfurl beneath the Earth. Rough green diamonds, among the rarest natural treasures ever discovered, were selected for their individual character, echoing the diverse shades found in foliage, from forest to olive to apple green. Their tactile, organic silhouettes are juxtaposed against the brilliance of polished white diamonds, which are suspended like dewdrops on leaves,
and the smooth grain of jet: the first time De Beers Jewellers has used the fossilised wood.
The Interlace set is a figurative exploration of tree roots, with intertwining diamond-set curves woven around rough and polished yellow diamonds, symbolising the importance of roots as the foundation of beautiful things to come. Championing fluidity, versatility and asymmetry, the set includes a contemporary ear cuff and mismatching ear climber, and convertible earrings which transform from classic studs into glamorous drops. A magnificent necklace, an intricate bracelet and two cocktail rings complete the set, which includes a remarkably rare
8.75-carat Fancy Intense Yellow diamond from the Natural Works of Art collection.
The Foundation set pays tribute to the strength and dignity of trees, featuring a sensational two-row diamond necklace that cascades elegantly towards a unique Fancy Deep Greyish Green diamond whose rich hue calls to mind lush vegetation. Classically simple earrings evoke towering tree trunks, and a convertible ring featuring another incredibly rare green diamond can be worn with or without a white-diamond jacket. Fusing timelessness and modernity, the Foundation set demonstrates De Beers Jewellers’ legacy of selecting the Earth’s
most exceptional diamonds and showcasing them in immaculately crafted jewels that exude grace and sophistication.
“Nature is the force that drives ourcreativity, andweworkhard topreserveitspreciousbeauty throughourBuildingForever sustainabilityprograms,” says Céline Assimon, CEO of De Beers Jewellers. “InthefirstChapterofEssence of Nature we celebrate our roots, bothliterallyandfiguratively.Tree roots are the unseen foundations ofincrediblebeautythatcan

ABOUT TIMEPIECES WELCOME YOU INTO THEIR WORLD OF INDEPENDENT WATCHMAKING
About Timepieces, a relatively new e-commerce platform that is successfully introducing independent watchmakers to their ever-growing clan of like minded watch lover clients (many being self-confessed watch geeks).
With retail and pre-owned prices of sought after watches from brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet shooting through the roof and breaking records at auction, many collectors have been finding their own way into the previously “underground” world of independent watchmaking.
There are already a few previously niche brands that have broken out into the mainstream media and are creating waves. Pieces from classical independent watchmakers, artisans and masters of high end finishing, are already selling for more than retail price on resale markets and if you want one made for yourself (if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity), expect to wait anything from 1 – 3 years (or even more) to receive it.
An abundance of (often relatively unknown) individual watchmakers, independents or micro brands with small teams of staff, produce high quality timepieces; many of which are either completely hand made and/ or feature in house made bespoke movements and complications, as well as heavily modified Swiss Calibres.
You will not find a wide selection of new watches from independent brands in many physical stores, however, About Timepieces aim to provide this in an online only platform. If you would like something specially made, or if you are struggling to communicate with a brand that About Timepieces do not stock, there is a good chance that they already know them. About Timepieces offer these services free of charge and as a conduit into their world.
Electing to specialise solely on independent brands and only selling limited editions or unique pieces from these brands is certainly a niche, however, the quality and craft in these timepieces offer not only value for money, but also the opportunity for the wearer to show off their own personality, by selecting watches that are not only sometimes a bit off the wall, but almost always rare.
About Timepieces are also working on very small batch Exclusive releases with some of these brands; these watches are only available to purchase through their online store.
TAG HEUER BECOMES FIRST EVER TITLE PARTNER OF THE GRAND PRIX DE MONACO
A historic moment for the most glamorous race on the Formula 1 calendar and for the watchmaker synonymous with the Principality.
For the first time in the nearly 100-year history of the Grand Prix de Monaco, 2025 will witness the first time the race will have a title partner, with TAG Heuer proud to hold this special honour. In the 75th year of Formula 1, and as TAG Heuer returns as Official Timekeeper for the sport, it further reinforces the incredible connection between the famed Swiss watchmaker, the toptier of motor racing and one of the most famous races on the calendar.
With a shared story interwoven across decades, Monaco and TAG Heuer are connected not only by the world of motorsport, but also the famed TAG Heuer Monaco collection and personalities that have made the race so famous.
Monte-Carlo is referred to as the spiritual home of TAG Heuer, and the contemporary story is defined by the strong presence during F1 weekend, making it only natural for the race to now be known as the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco.
A SECOND HOME
While the traditional watches of TAG Heuer are made in Switzerland, the company has become a cultural force taking on a global identity. With boutiques located around the world, ambassadors and advertising campaigns that can be seen in every city, and the presence in different sports across continents, there is only one place that the brand has a special connection to, Monaco.
Since the presence of drivers such as Jochen Rindt, Jo Siffert, Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson in the 1960s and 1970s who would become style icons and wore Heuer chronographs around the track, to the incredible rivalries and victories of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna of the 1980s
and 1990s who would dominate in Monaco at the wheel of TAG Heuer sponsored McLaren’s, TAG Heuer’s connection to the circuit on the Côte d’Azur is undeniable.
The late 1990s and 2000s would see Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard, Kimi Räikkönen, and Lewis Hamilton victorious on the streets of Monaco all with TAG Heuer on their wrist as they took the top step of the podium. In recent years Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez have won against strong competition with TAG Heuer alongside them through the sponsorship of Oracle Red Bull Racing.
ELEVATING A PARTNERSHIP
TAG Heuer has been a partner of the Automobile Club de Monaco since 2011, present at key moments through the Formula 1 weekend and at the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. With this new relationship the story will be further reinforced through increased presence for TAG Heuer across all assets relating to the race, including significant trackside placement visible for those at the race on the streets of Monaco and on screens around the world.
A special logo has been created to celebrate this key moment in motorsport history and will be used across all touchpoints where TAG Heuer will be present. Another key element will be the iconic TAG Heuer Monaco clocks that will be displayed throughout the paddock, a new fixture for Formula 1 in 2025.
Beyond the Formula 1 race, TAG Heuer is excited to be continuing its connection to the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique as Official Timekeeper, with the next event taking place in 2026. As a new addition this year, TAG Heuer is also the partner of the Rallye MonteCarlo Historique and this will continue as part of the multi-year deal with the Automobile Club de Monaco.

THE OMEGA SEAMASTER DIVER 300M IN BRONZE GOLD AND BURGUNDY
The Seamaster Diver 300M remains one of OMEGA’s most celebrated and iconic timepiece collections. Now, in 2025, the brand unveils a new series of models in Bronze Gold, combining adventurous spirit and superior precision with an exclusive material design.
As with the most recent models in the collection, these special Bronze Gold editions are inspired by the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, which was launched in 2020 for the James Bond film, No Time to Die. Similar features include the mesh bracelet, the oxalic anodised aluminium bezel ring and dial, and the domed sapphire crystal.
Bronze Gold is OMEGA’s oneof-a-kind alloy, enriched with noble elements such as 37.5% gold, hallmarked as 9K, as well as palladium and silver. The material offers incomparable corrosion resistance without verdigrisoxidation, therefore aging slowly and retaining its natural and beautiful patina over a longer period of time.
Two models are presented for this launch, both with a 42 mm case crafted in Bronze Gold, and each mounted with an oxalic anodised aluminium bezel ring in burgundy. This rich contrasting shade beautifully stands out on the wrist and reveals a diving scale in vintage Super-LumiNova.
The matte black tone of the sandblasted aluminium dial is enhanced by PVD 18K Bronze Gold hands and blackened indexes, all filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, whereas the other markings, including the OMEGA logo and name, are transferred in light brown.
The difference in the models appears around the wrist, where
customers can choose between a version on a brushed Bronze Gold mesh bracelet on a foldover clasp, or alternatively on an integrated black rubber strap with a Bronze Gold buckle.
Inside, each watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, visible
through the caseback’s sapphire crystal. Excellence in precision, performance and magnetic resistance is guaranteed by the Master Chronometer certification, with tests certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
LOUIS VUITTON BECOMES OFFICIAL PARTNER OF FORMULA 1
With great excitement, Louis Vuitton joins Formula 1® as an Official Partner in a 10-year agreement that places the House at the heart of this journey of champions.
As the prestigious motorsport competition celebrates its 75th anniversary through 2025, Louis Vuitton will play an active role at the most emblematic race destinations, becoming a beacon for athletes and fans alike.
Louis Vuitton’s involvement with Formula 1® is part of the LVMH partnership as a new Global Partner, first announced in October 2024.
Through a parallel quest for innovation, both Louis Vuitton and Formula 1® constantly push the limits of their universes, and their common values will be showcased as a combined ambition to support triumphant stories.
Furthermore, this partnership represents the shared pursuit of excellence at a time when fashion, culture, entertainment, and sports are converginlike never before.
In this thrilling year of changes to the driver lineup, Louis Vuitton will have a constant presence across the races including prominent trackside signage, a first for the House at a sporting event.
The Trophy Trunk will be presented ahead of races and again when it appears on the podium to honor the winner’s extraordinary achievement.
The next Formula 1® season kicks off on March 13th with the Grand Prix on the 16th in Melbourne, where Louis Vuitton will additionally be the Title Partner of the Formula 1® Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix 2025.
Present during key moments, such as the opening ceremony and the podium, Louis Vuitton will continue its tagline “Victory travels in Louis Vuitton”.
Louis Vuitton established an initial link with Formula 1® through a partnership with the Automobile Club de Monaco, that comprised developing and presenting the Trophy Trunk for the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco™ between 2021-2024.
Yet the Louis Vuitton victory Trophy Trunk also stands as the ultimate symbol of triumph across some of the world’s preeminent sports competitions such as FIFA World Cup™, the Ballon d’Or®, the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, and the America’s Cup.
Like all bespoke Louis Vuitton designs, the Formula 1® Trophy Trunks are being assembled at the historical atelier in Asnières, where
some of the first ‘auto trunks’ were produced under the direction of Georges Vuitton (son of Louis Vuitton), who anticipated the rise in demand for cars as early as 1897.
Knowing that they would be mounted on the rear of the vehicles and exposed to the elements, he eschewed leather for the creation of a resistant canvas material he called “Vuittonite,” which evolved into the canvas used today.
In keeping with its tradition of travel, Louis Vuitton continued to develop automobile-related designs, and by the 1990s, even organized its own rally first known as the Louis Vuitton Classic Runs, then the Louis Vuitton Classic and Design Awards from 2006.
The House supported competitions and prizes in automobile design, furthering a heritage that acknowledges the complementary expertise of craftmanship and engineering.
Today, from the atelier to the paddock, teamwork, precision and innovation are among the values that bridge the two universes and that underscore the relentless quest towards victory.
This is why the new Trophy Trunks, covered by the emblematic Monogram of the House, will be emblazoned with the iconic “V”, in a unique local colour scheme for each race against the classic brown background.
The surging global popularity of Formula 1® means that more and more people will witness the sport’s iconic and emotional moments, with Louis Vuitton ensuring that every triumph lives on and perpetuates the tradition that marks new milestones, each time confirming that “Victory travels in Vuitton.”
“I am immensely proud of this partnership between Louis Vuitton and Formula 1® with our shared ambition to always strive for innovation, craft and precision.
The synergy of our two worlds is echoed in the savoir faire of our ateliers and garages, artisans, and engineers, while celebrating the outstanding performance of champion drivers around the world who embark on a journey of excellence with every race” says Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO, Louis Vuitton.
“We are thrilled to welcome Louis Vuitton as Title Partner for our first 2025 race.
This is a partnership between two global icons linked first and foremost by their great passion for innovation, excellence and creativity, which makes them two exceptional timeless stories.
The entry of Louis Vuitton not only enhances the experience of our sport, but celebrates the union of luxury, craftsmanship, and the highest expression of automotive competition.
2025 will be an epic year for Formula 1 and I am proud to start it with our passionate partners at Louis Vuitton” says Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO, Formula 1®.

Phantom has always had the same fundamental aim: to provide the most magnificent, desirable and, above all, effortless motor car in the world – the very best of the best. At the start of Phantom’s anniversary year, Rolls-Royce reveals the fascinating story behind its pinnacle product, and how it earned – and maintained – that reputation through a century of constant, often profound change.
A NEW BEGINNING
Rolls-Royce first earned the accolade of ‘the best car in the world’ with the 40/50 H.P., universally known as the Silver Ghost, launched in 1906. The key to its legendary reputation was Henry Royce’s principle of constant improvement to its underlying engineering, which he conducted on an almost chassis-by-chassis basis.
By 1921, Royce realised the Silver Ghost’s design was reaching the point where no further developments would be possible without compromising either smoothness or reliability – both by now essential elements of the Rolls-Royce character and legend. He therefore began work on its replacement.
“Rolls-RoyceLtdbegtoannounce that, afterprolongedtests, they cannowdemonstrateandaccept ordersforanew40/50H.P.chassis. The40/50H.P.chassishitherto manufacturedbythemwillbesold asbefore…Theoriginalchassisof thistypewasthefamousSilver Ghost, andtopreventconfusion such chassis will be known as the Silver Ghost model, whereas the new chassis will be known as the New Phantom.”

Despite being couched in terms that today seem rather quaint and stilted, this advertisement made history. It was the first public acceptance by Rolls-Royce that the outgoing model would be called Silver Ghost officially, rather than as a byname. More significantly, it was the first recorded use of the Phantom name.
THE GAME OF THE NAME
Although there is no specific documentary evidence, it seems safe to assume that the Phantom name was coined by Rolls-Royce’s energetic and ever-inventive Commercial Managing Director, Claude Johnson. It was he who recognised that naming the company’s products could act as a sales device, and it was his fertile imagination that produced the inspired sobriquet ‘Silver Ghost’ for the otherwise prosaically titled 40/50 H.P. in 1907. That same year, he christened another 40/50 H.P. ‘Green Phantom’, before bestowing the rather more evocative ‘Silver Phantom’ on two examples in 1909.
Johnson clearly understood the power of names like Phantom, Wraith and Ghost to convey the products’ supernatural quietness and ethereal grace; all have graced Rolls-Royce motor cars in the modern era for precisely the same reason. How different history would have been had one of his more fanciful efforts – The Dreadnought, The Cookie, Yellow Bird, The Elusive Pimpernel – been adopted instead.
THE BASIS FOR GREATNESS
The Times advertisement also assured readers the New Phantom would retain the “sweet running
qualities always associated with Rolls-Royce products”. At this time, Rolls-Royce supplied only rolling chassis, with the form, styling and appointment of the motor car itself in the hands of independent coachbuilders, who created bespoke bodywork to the owner’s specification. Rolls-Royce offered the New Phantom in longwheelbase form, suitable for formal saloon and limousine designs, and with a shorter wheelbase ideal for owner-driver motor cars with closed, open and ‘sportier’ coachwork.
Then as now, Phantom’s generous proportions enabled owners to specify almost any detail or indulgence they wished. Some clients asked for concealable writing desks or swivelling occasional seats in their long-wheelbase limousines, while owner-drivers are known to have requested safes, dedicated spaces to stow golf clubs and even, in one famous instance, a secret compartment in which to carry diamonds.
On 8 May 1925, The Autocar magazine published its review of the new model. “Few are the firms engaged in the manufacture of motor cars who enjoy quite such a reputation as Rolls-Royce Ltd,” it enthused. “Almost the conjoined names have become the household
word for luxury, and every novelist worthy of the name imparts a distinguished air to any character by crediting him or her with the possession of one of the firm’s cars.” With Phantom, Rolls-Royce had clearly succeeded in not only maintaining, but furthering the qualities established and made famous by the Silver Ghost.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
Though undoubtedly gratifying, such encomiums did not distract Henry Royce. The design of the original New Phantom had closely followed that of its predecessor,
Silver Ghost – so closely, in fact, that some modern enthusiasts refer to it as a ‘Super Ghost’. Over the next four years, Royce continued to refine his design until, in 1929, The Times carried a fresh advertisement announcing the arrival of Phantom II. The advertisement listed all the engineering improvements and upgraded components that justified its designation as an entirely new model.
VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE
Somewhat ironically, the only person who remained unimpressed was Royce himself, who insisted that even the short-wheelbase Phantom II was irritatingly oversized for his personal use. He therefore instructed his design team to develop a more compact, sporting Phantom II variant which he could enjoy driving across France to his winter home at Le Canadel on the Côte d’Azur.
The designers dutifully produced a close-coupled car, 26EX – ‘EX’ standing for ‘Experimental’ – on an adapted short Phantom II chassis. Records show that neither the Rolls-Royce sales department nor the factory were keen on the concept; indeed, had it not been intended as Royce’s personal transport, it might not have been built at all.
As it transpired, a highly successful continental sales tour demonstrated there was, in fact, great demand for a car capable of high-speed touring over long distances on the smooth, straight roads of Europe. Rolls-Royce successfully met this demand with the now highly prized Phantom II Continental – perhaps the only pre-Goodwood Phantom variant in which weight, wind resistance and other performance-related factors were afforded equal consideration with out-and-out passenger comfort.
A NEW POWER RISING
By the time of Royce’s death in 1933, the company was already only too aware that luxury car customers were seeking models that offered more power without sacrificing comfort or excellence. American competitors including Cadillac, Lincoln and Packard were responding with straight-8, V12 and even V16-cylinder engines, which were rapidly eclipsing the largehorsepower, in-line six-cylinder units that had served Rolls-Royce so well for so long.
Given this commercial pressure and the company’s proven experience in designing and building aero-engines, it was inevitable that the next Phantom would have a V12 engine. In
accordance with tradition, Phantom III’s arrival in 1936 was announced in The Times, which informed the public that “many outstanding features distinguish this car from its famous predecessor the Phantom II”.
Chief among these was the new engine, with 12 cylinders “giving greater engine smoothness, flexibility, silence and acceleration” – all key requirements for RollsRoyce’s fabled effortless progress. The new V12 engine was also more compact than the old straight-6, allowing a shorter bonnet and larger passenger compartment. Most importantly, however, it delivered the increased power customers demanded – 165 H.P. against the 120 H.P. of Phantom II, rising to 180 H.P. in later cars.
Comfort was further improved with independent front wheel suspension. “This is particularly noticeable in the back seats under all road conditions and is further enhanced by remarkable road holding qualities and stability on corners even at high speeds”, the advertisement noted, while Phantom III’s new chassis frame allowed for wider, more comfortable back seats.
And it wasn’t just passengers who benefited. As the advertisement pointed out, Phantom III made life more relaxing for owner-drivers and chauffeurs, too, explaining: “A modification in the position of the change-speed [gear lever] and brake levers gives easy entrance to the
driver’s seat from the offside… the steering is lighter in operation, has a larger steering lock and the car is more easily manoeuvred by reason of the shorter wheelbase.”
Phantom III was suited to all manner of coachwork styles, and both owner-driver and chauffeured use. And while it was never able to beat its American rivals on price, such was Rolls-Royce’s reputation that it remained the only choice for those who wanted to experience the greatest possible comfort and be seen to be driving the very best.
A CHANGING WORLD
The Phantom name had graced the very best of the best cars in the world for some 14 years when war broke out in 1939. Rolls-Royce ceased all motor car production, and when peace returned in 1945, the company found itself in an entirely different world – but one it had anticipated and prepared for.
Rolls-Royce had correctly foreseen that under post-war austerity, it would need to make its motor cars less complex, easier to service, much less expensive to produce and able to use common parts. At the same time, it was adamant that there would be no reduction in quality.
Its solution was the Rationalised Range, which debuted in 1946 with Silver Wraith. Its new straight-6cylinder engine was a backward step from the V12 engine of Phantom III, but relevant in straitened times. There seemed to be no place in the modern world for Phantom.
A ROYAL INTERVENTION
The Phantom story might well have ended there, but for two serendipitous events.
As part of the ongoing development process for the Rationalised Range, engineers produced four experimental EX cars on a 229.5inch chassis with a straight-8 engine. One of these, fitted with a Park Ward & Co. limousine body, was officially named Silver Phantom (and unofficially known as Big Bertha). A smaller, lighter saloon version, known as the Scalded Cat, followed.
At the same time, the Royal Household was seeking to replace its ageing fleet of Daimlers – the marque it had favoured since the motor car was invented – but was unhappy with the range then on offer.
In 1950, Rolls-Royce was asked to supply a formal limousine for Royal duties. The company had long been keen to usurp Daimler in the Royal Mews, and gladly produced a ‘one-off’ straight-8 long-chassis limousine with coachwork by H. J. Mulliner. During manufacture,
the car was given the codename Maharajah, and remains in active service at the Royal Mews under that name to this day.
When requests for similar motor cars followed from other Royalty and Heads of State, Rolls-Royce was happy to oblige. The company decided it would be fitting that for such prestigious cars to resurrect the Phantom name. Over the next seven years, the marque produced just 18 examples of Phantom IV, including a second motor car for the Royal Mews, a landaulette named Jubilee, delivered in 1954.
THE LAST HURRAH
The pinnacle Rolls-Royce experience became somewhat more widely available once again in 1959 with the launch of Phantom V – a splendid limousine fitted with coachwork by both the marque’s in-house coachbuilder, Park Ward & Co., and other independent companies, including James Young Ltd and H. J. Mulliner & Co. (RollsRoyce would go on to acquire the latter, merging it with their own coachbuilder to form Mulliner Park Ward). Two motor cars, known as Canberra I and Canberra II, were built for Royal service, featuring transparent Perspex cupolas over the rear compartments and concealed lighting to better view the occupants on formal occasions.
After 13 years and 832 examples, Phantom V had received enough technical upgrades to be designated as Phantom VI. As with all its forebears, this new iteration prioritised comfort, with separate air conditioning systems for the front and rear compartments. Most of the 374 examples were limousines with coachwork by inhouse Mulliner Park Ward Ltd., or James Young Ltd.: the last Phantom VI, a landaulette, was delivered to the Sultan of Brunei in 1993.
Phantom VI was the final bodyon-chassis model Rolls-Royce ever produced, and its discontinuation
effectively ended the tradition of coachbuilding until it was revived at Goodwood in 2017 with ‘Sweptail’.
PHANTOM REBORN
When the marque was relaunched at the new Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, a ‘Phantom-type’ model quickly emerged as the natural and obvious choice for its inaugural motor car. The design concept, for which legendary RollsRoyce designer John Blatchley was consulted and of which he approved, included signature elements inherited from previous generations. These included a long wheelbase with the front wheels well to the fore and a minimal front overhang of the bodywork, a long bonnet comprised of a massive expanse of metal along the side, and a rising sweep of the door edge towards the front windscreen pillars.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ first Design Director of the Goodwood era, Ian Cameron, formed a specific team to create the interior design for the much-anticipated new model. Their remit was to express the ambience of past Phantoms and the traditional high-quality materials of coachbuilding – leather, wood, deep-pile carpeting – in a totally upto-date way.
At one minute past midnight, on 1 January 2003, the first Phantom VII was handed over to its new owner. Unlike every Phantom that had gone before, it was built entirely in-house by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars,
with spaceframe bodywork to a single design rather than coachbuilt. In one important sense, however, it retained a link with its heritage, in that every motor car was hand-built by a team of skilled craftspeople. Furthermore, the marque’s Bespoke programme meant Phantom was effectively a blank canvas on which patrons could realise their own visions and desires.
THE EVOLUTION CONTINUES
Over its 13-year lifespan, Phantom VII cemented Rolls-Royce as the world’s pre-eminent super luxury motor manufacturer, and its own place as the marque’s pinnacle product. But just like their predecessors, Rolls-Royce’s designers and engineers understood that perfection is a moving target: that Phantom was never ‘finished’.
In 2017, Rolls-Royce presented Phantom VIII. This was the first Rolls-Royce to be built on the Architecture of Luxury, an advance on the all-aluminium spaceframe used on Phantom VII, and designed to underpin every future motor car produced at Goodwood.
Phantom VIII was specifically designed to be the ultimate canvas for Bespoke commissions. With this in mind, it is the only Rolls-Royce model to feature the Gallery – an uninterrupted swathe of glass that runs the full width of the fascia, behind which the client can display a commissioned work of art or design.
This singular focus has made Phantom the subject of some of the most technically ambitious and challenging Bespoke projects ever undertaken by the marque’s designers, engineers and specialist craftspeople. Commissions such as Phantom Syntopia, Phantom Oribe, Phantom Koa and Phantom ‘Inspired by Cinque Terre’ all incorporate features, materials and engineering innovations never seen before in
a Rolls-Royce or any other motor car. Each is a unique, one-of-one creation that will never be repeated, echoing the very first Phantoms that were individually hand-built for their commissioning owners.
THE ESSENCE OF PHANTOM
For 100 years, the Phantom name has occupied a unique position in the Rolls-Royce product family and story. While the standards of quality, engineering and design are consistent across all Rolls-Royce motor cars, Phantom has always been the grandest, most impressive and, above all, most effortless motor car being built in series production by the marque at any given moment.
Through all its eight generations, Phantom has never been compromised by existing engineering orthodoxy, fleeting trends or development costs. From Henry Royce’s original New Phantom to today’s Phantom VIII, the essential purpose behind Phantom has always remained the same: to build the motor car that offers owner-drivers and passengers alike the most comfortable, satisfying experience available in the world at that moment in time –the unassailable pinnacle of luxury and motoring excellence.
