PARK STREET, W1 PRACTICAL LIVING IN MODERN LUXURY 129 Park Street is the award- winning luxury home of interior designer duo brothers Alexander and Michael Christou at 1.61 London. The apartment is set in a former commercial building in highly desirable Mayfair which was transformed into a residential development completed with a gym and swimming pool on site. The designer duo bought the original flat consisting of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and converted it to an upscale open floor living space with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms apartment along with a bar area. Using their continual drive for aesthetic perfection, they turned this retro property into a contemporary stylish smart home, winning 4 international design awards along the way. The interior design approach throughout the property is inspired by London and its evolution through time. The vision was based on the traditions of London design as the central focal point but with a modern interpretation through evolving material with flow in colours, space and design with a symmetrical structure. Alex Christou, Director at 1.61 London explains: We always design every project with careful care and considerations to achieve aesthetic perfection and we wanted our flat to showcase this where every single space in the flat was meticulously designed with the highest finishes created in collaboration with prestigious international brands ranging from Roberto Cavalli(Italy), Lalique(France), Hacker(Germany), Billi(UK) and Sonos(USA) amongst many more. Head shot image credit: Photographer Andrej Wetzel

Design ? Boldness is in the air ! When it comes to dressing our interiors with originality and daring, we sometimes have to learn to look a little further than the tip of our nose. Exit the traditional furniture, Mojow today shakes the codes of the layout of our spaces Inside & Out, with a good dose of genius that continues to surprise us with the seasons. T he Mojow concept? It cannot be explained. It gets undressed from the first look. Because yes, just a few beats of eyelashes to fall literally under the spell of this line of furniture that is out of the ordinary. Design, innovative, unconventional: Mojow is above all the fruit of the imagination, a bit crazy from its creator. The idea? Reinventing the world of furniture to transpose it into an offbeat, urban, trendy and furiously futuristic spirit, whose consumers search of ingenuity, novelty and love. The least we can say is that the collections scratched by this bubbling laboratory inspiration can seduce its little world with crazy agility. Inside, outside, sitting, lying down ... Mojow adapts to all your desires and all your constraints in term of space. We already feel conquered ...
EVERYONE ITS MOJOW ! Inflatable furniture? You could think of a joke and yet, far from the narrow image that one might have. The stamped collections Mojow bluff us with their style quite astonishing. Indeed, the furniture Mojow were thought in the smallest details. Ultra resistant, customizable, practical and easy to assemble (in just a few minutes thanks to the electric inflator supplied!) and maintain ... It was enough for the concept to fly and stands out brilliantly from others market players. The bonus? Mojow declines its range of PVC (treated anti-UV for the Outdoor) as well for your rooms of life as for your terraces and gardens, for atmospheres simply original and inflated! The sofas are available in several ultra-trendy colors with wraparound armchairs, design coffee tables with super-comfortable pouffes, not to mention the brand new benches that are so eloquent: you’ll be spoiled for choice in styling your spaces. of life, whatever the season!
A JEWEL OF THE GENDER At the latest Maison & Objet Paris exhibition, Mojow has once again made a sensation, by previewing its brand new “WOOD” models: armchairs and sofas YOKO and YOMI, now available with a solid wood frame to reveal even more character. ZIBA benches with a modern and unique design also amazed the audience! One thing is certain, the new Mojow will certainly seduce a cosmopolitan generation, an urban tribe with an assured taste, eager to discover!

PROJECT PALMA Returning clients had fallen in love with the island of Majorca – a personal favourite of mine…
Our brief was to give them a classical beach house look with a contemporary twist, with inspiration from the film “something got to give” with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicolson, another all-time favourite! So with a timeline of 6 months we set about the designs, the kitchen was built in our AH style, smooth clean lines, with enough detail to make it interesting soulful in pale greys and on trend blues, it sat perfectly in the almost ecclesiastic building, as both floors had been removed and only one mezzanine level remained. With such gorgeous proportions, it lent itself to cascading lighting, so I immediately thought of Bocci and commissioned them to make a bespoke piece to fit the almost 12m height, with around 20 ceramic cones they set the scene and gave me the inspiration to bring the design to heel.
25
Porta Romana was used throughout the villa, as the clients have particularly discerning taste and I was especially delighted to include the artwork by Gill Wilson. Having seen the Moroccan design, I commissioned the rug to be made to size with the classic design in pale grey and cream, it served to change the acoustics and gave the space a more luxurious feel, without losing any of the practicality of a stone floor. Having sourced the driftwood lamps to give it an authentic beach feel, it was anchored with a black shade for the study area and then brought to a lighter feel, by using the cream shade in the living space opposite the bespoke dining table, which was built upon a polished chrome Eames style base and washed with a grey patina and inset chrome band, surrounded by bespoke linen chairs
26
27
The master bedroom, was painted with stone linen and soft whites, with hand embodied handmade curtains, once again changing the softness, sound and overall feel of the room... With guests staying on a regular basis, we were asked to include the casita, which was given a complete remodel, to our delight looked and felt every bit as comfortable as the main house – All in all a home made in heaven, well almost. JOHN STREET, LONDON BY REBEKAH CAUDWELL
The design brief was to give some youth and energy to a beautiful and well proportioned, but rather serious house. Arriving at the front door of the flat fronted, Georgian faรงade, you have a pre-conception of what will be inside. I wanted to play with these expectations and subvert them totally. As colour is always my starting point, I set off to change the mood with some unexpected exciting colours. I always like to have a unifying colour either subtly or boldly iterated through a house or project, and in this case I used blues. The constant colour use creates a visual link through the property that people respond to, often subconsciously. It makes the home hang together. You enter (the hallway) into quite a grand and classic space, which is made rich and strange by the high impact geometric wallpaper on the left wall in jewel tones. There is also a fuchsia-pink lacquered cabinet ahead of you and a pair of bespoke faux shagreen and velvet armchairs to the left. These items in particular create the mood, and inform the viewer that this will not be a regular taupe townhouse. The drawing room, which only receives direct sunlight for around two hours a day in the afternoon, I wanted to make sunnier with the use of yellow, and I combined it with turquoise, one of my favourite colours. I also brought in some graphic and geometric patterns for additional impact and to give the room a more contemporary feel. That combined with various textures and hard surfaces velvet, wool, wood, lacquer, brass and marble - give the room diversity and lift. I love architectural history and this house has historical detail in abundance, so it is lovely to play these games of combining our own time with the craftsmanship and detail of the past. Website: www.rebekahcaudwell.com
38
Blues are the most calming of colours so it is a great choice for a bedroom where you want people's state to be relaxed. The only thing to guard against is making the room too cold, as blues are cool tones, so warm counterparts should be used. In this huge first floor master bedroom, I added oversized white ceramic lamps with large-scale yellow lampshades. These tie in with the vibrant yellow in the fireplace painting. Yellow and blue are a wonderful colour mix, reminiscent of sky and sun. Yellow warms the blue and provides a burst of energy. It is an infectiously happy colour. Colour psychology says that yellow can make some people edgy or even aggressive. Personally I have never seen this and can scarcely imagine it when it buoys up my mood so instantly, but it is something to be aware of, and should perhaps be used with caution in a nursery! Other than the yellow though this is the most monochrome room in the house. There are soft accent colours too but on the whole the room plays around a relaxing interaction of various layered blues. The master bedroom, like many of my designs is quite pattern heavy. My way with pattern, as in fact with colour, is gut instinct. I don’t follow any specific rules but using different scales of pattern helps. Although the pattern on the wallpaper and rug is different, they both loosely mimic shapes in the ceiling plasterwork, and actually the sculpted silhouette of the headboard is a pretty close match too.
39
It is also good to use lots of block colour, for example on the bed, sofa and curtains, which has a balancing effect on the pattern. Don’t forget that photographs are deceptive. When you stand in the room, your eye is drawn to the rug, or the wall or ceiling, you would rarely be able take in all three patterns at once. People often think that space needs to be filled, but negative space (if you have enough square footage for it!) can be very luxurious. The blue and cream rug by Martin Lawrence Bullard is so beautiful with its blue singing silk that I wanted to allow it its own floor space, as you would give a painting its own wall space. It has become one of the main focal points of the room. Keeping the rug clear of furniture also makes the bedroom feel even more expansive and spacious. This room also has 11 foot high ceilings and the amazing original plasterwork on the ceiling dates back to the 1750s. The adjoining master bathroom and closet, is as large as the master bedroom so it was a great space to work with. I wanted to keep it very open and airy. One thing to remember with a bathroom is that just because it is a functional space does not mean it has to be devoid of character. Here a shabby chic Georgian chair gives this room an instant sense of comfort. Good lighting is crucial too, so always make sure you have well lit mirrors, preferably lit from both left and right, and sufficient ceiling lighting.
40
Go for a chandelier to give the room some glam!
I am a huge fan of wallpaper, and love it wall to wall but I still find using it for a feature wall really effective. It is also a much cheaper way

The project intends to respect and maintain the integrity and the industrial past that has defined the character of this grade II-listed century former warehouse originally built for the East India Company for more than 200 years. The interior spaces have been mainly decorated respecting the existing materials. LUV created a unique hand-made floor through tinted Austrian oak parquet. The bespoke process took around 6 months to fine tune the intensity of hand brush, tone, grain and cut. The wooden floors appear in contrast with white exposed block walls, and white exposed beamed ceilings. All furniture and fabrics have been personalized and made-to-measure for the client. The selected brands and decoration products have been thoughtfully chosen to achieve a sophisticated and exclusive environment, enhancing the lifestyle of the client.
54
Italian emperor marbles and walnut wooden veneers have been used for bathrooms and kitchen. Gloss wooden lacquers and back lacquered glass finishes have been used to cover the main features, providing subtle reflections and glares that are common in all jewels. The design was complemented with a high level of security, audio-video package, home automation systems, heated floors and smart lighting.

TOUCH IRONMONGERY LTD www.atouchofbrass.co.uk 210 Fulham Road, Chelsea London SW10 9PJ
THE PERFECT TOUCH
E
stablished 33 years ago in October 1982, Touch Ironmongery is one of London’s leading ironmongers. Originally called “A Touch of Brass”, the firm changed their name in 2003 in reaction to slowly advancing market changes in architectural ironmongery which is no longer supplied solely in brass, and to also reflect the broader range of products and finishes that they sell. In fact today, Touch can supply a wide range of finishes including Brass, Satin Brass, Polished Chrome, Satin Chrome, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel, Copper, Bronze -solid and plated, BMA, Antique Brass, Black, Pewter, Ceramic, Leather, Stainless Steel, Satin Stainless Steel, Gun Metal, and the list keeps growing. Whatever finish you require, Touch can help you get the right look. Touch occupy their recently refurbished showroom at 210 Fulham Road, Chelsea, where they display a vast range of their 5,000 products. With a customer base including Interior Designers, Builders and individuals who are
interested in the top end of the Ironmongery market, Touch mainly supply to residential premises but hotel and office properties also contribute to their vast clientele. The company also have a healthy export market to all corners of the world, namely the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Touch’s owner and founder, Bill Benham, has 33 years’ experience in the ironmongery trade, as do his colleagues Jim Haselup and Alan Blanchard. Saleem Qureshi is the newest member of our team and has 10 years’ experience, meaning their knowledge is unrivalled in this industry. The range of products supplied by Touch date from circa 1640 French (Louise XIV) and cover all subsequent periods (Georgian, Edwardian & Victorian), art deco and contemporary pieces also make up the product ranges. In addition, Touch showcases the very best of British manufacturing; the best ranges are still produced in the Midlands by craftsmen in factories dating back 200 years or more. Touch also sell European manufactured goods
which is considered to be of a very good quality and in recent years they have introduced some of the far eastern made products, albeit in a limited range but cost effective. With trends continuously evolving, new innovative products are constantly under development. Touch understand that keeping up with the fashion-shifts is imperative in order to provide every customer with the best solution for their requirements. Ironmongery can be a difficult and complicated aspect of a building project, as a result Touch aim to take this awkward aspect and make it user friendly and clear to understand by offering an onsite service where they carry out a detailed door by door, window by window, room by room Ironmongery schedule, highlighting all requirements and identifying any items that can be refurbished. Refurbishment is a large part of the business; Touch will undertake complete ironmongery refurbishment projects, and can restore old paint covered door furniture to their former glory, looking as new, at a fraction of the cost to replace.
For more information about Touch Ironmongery or to arrange a showroom visit please call 0207 351 2255 or alternatively visit www.atouchofbrass.co.uk

STUNNING APARTMENT DESIGNED BY KELLY HOPPEN MBE Website: www.kellyhoppeninteriors.com / Photo credit: Mel Yates
This stunning apartment in central London, designed by iconic interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE, immaculately showcases the eclectic and vibrant style of its owners. The genius of its design lies in its complete transformation; with her expert vision, the once empty space was constructed by Kelly into an exceptional apartment befitting of the client. The double height space allows for the whole design to breathe and captures every moment of the natural daylight. Luxurious, oak herringbone flooring by Hakwood guides you through the space and to emphasise the height, Kelly’s trademark signature runners were installed on the walls in contrasting Italian stones, juxtaposed against a specialist plaster finish, to enhance and showcase the sheer volume of the living areas.

Warm Lighting
Littlefair is the mastermind behind the lighting and interiors for Canary Wharf's landmark development, One Park Drive. Positioned at the head of the dock within a new residential district, Wood Wharf, the development has been thoughtfully designed to be the very best in city and waterside living.

end of the day, which brings out the melatonin and makes us sleepier.
Hidden Light Lighting has become much more subliminal and we have actively moved away from stark downlighting. We always use ambient sideways light, rather than anything from the ceiling. It is much more natural, flattering, warmer and cosier. For many, lighting within the home is an afterthought, but, if you consider it as another element of the architecture, you can cleverly build it into the overall design. Indirect or hidden lighting works best when you can't see the source and yet it's able to add another dimension.

we see via technology are 2D and flat.
We have used a lot of indirect lighting in the apartments at One Park Drive,
backlighting behind the trims that blend seamlessly around the framework. By hiding the lighting in this way, we are directing the light onto the walls, so that it reflects back into the space, rather than beaming it down directly onto your face. Architectural lighting, which means lighting fixed to the interior surfaces such as ceilings or walls, can be used to set the overall scene. Track lighting set at around 2,000 Kelvins, for example, means you can incorporate a number of multi-directional lights that are still soft and atmospheric in order to highlight certain sections of a room or artworks, for example, as used at One Park Drive.

ALL SINGING ALL DANCING LED DOWNLIGHTS AVAILABLE AS GU10 OR ENGINEERED LIGHT ENGINE VERSIONS! A Passion for light and making things! Ian Bibby of BB Light has spent his life passionately making, designing and educating for products with greater energy efficiency. All born from a resolve to make a significant contribution to maintaining our world in all its beauty for the history to come. The art of light making is more than just interesting, it is challenging Ian states. As Art can be a tonic for human intellect and the soul, without light art would be devoid of presence and invisible. Our accelerating move inside to build environments has removed us for significant proportions of time from the daily rhythms of our sun. So, to living and working, light is everything and the issues of trying to recreate the natural rhythms of light to our environment has become a challenge. Call us on: 0203 327 0385
This can be met by creating circadian rhythm or human centric lighting. Ian has developed a product where the colour temperature control can be varied and dimmed in a range of colour temperatures which reproduce those of sunlight seen at various times of the day. Additionally by the use of digital clock sometime referred to as atomic clock the colour temperatures will change and mimic the day long behaviour of our sun from sunrise to sunset. Currently Ian achieves this by using downlights but is committed to building various luminaire types embodying the same control and outputs such that something like a task light would perform the same function and thus greatly improve the natural rhythm of light we need for health and wellbeing. Research is showing that there are many benefits to be derived and use of lighting with circadian rhythm in hospitals for healing benefits will be welcome.

VINTAGE-INSPIRED FLOOR TILES Vintage — a word that’s usually associated with quality, antique furniture — is inspiring a unique style that adds character to any home. Radiating effortless, laid-back style, vintage can be seen in many home furnishings, including rustic filament lamps, French-inspired bathroom units and velvet living room sofas. But perhaps the biggest vintage statement of all, is retro bathroom flooring. Taking inspiration from Europe, this classic look is best achieved with ceramic tiles. Think intricately-patterned buildings in Portugal, authentically-cracked pavements in France and beautifully-grand cathedrals in Italy — the kind that leave you in awe and, like a fine wine, get better with age.
And has time has shown, vintage tiles last practically forever, so you can recommend this style with confidence. Easy Bathrooms’ ‘Fired’ tiles takes the idea of shabby chic furniture and

LANDMARK NEO-PALLADIAN HALL ONCE THOUGHT ‘NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE’ TRANSFORMED INTO ST ALBANS MUSEUM + GALLERY - A VIBRANT CULTURAL HUB Built in 1830 and designed by George Smith, the Grade II* Listed St Albans former Town Hall is one of the city’s most prominent landmarks. The elegant venue has been recently extended and repurposed to designs by John Mc Aslan and Partners as a world-class centre for arts and culture at the heart of one of Britain’s most historic cities. As part of the refurbishment Selectaglaze, a specialist designer of Secondary Glazing systems that has operated in St Albans for over 40 years, was approached by the consultants to consider ways of improving environmental controls. Very large tripartite single glazed windows in the impressive 1st floor Assembly Room offered extremely poor thermal insulation. Other windows required significantly improved security to meet Arts Council guidelines for inclusion in the Government Indemnity Insurance scheme.
Working closely with contractor Willmott Dixon Construction a sample window was first produced for the Assembly Room. This was a special 3-part vertical sliding unit measuring 4.3m (h) x 1.7m (w) designed to be as sympathetic as possible to the original window design. The new St Albans Museum + Gallery is free to visit and showcases over 2000 years of heritage with permanent displays telling the story of St Albans from the pre-Roman era through to modern times and will also host changing exhibitions and events. This project, financed in part by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has transformed an underused building which had fallen into disrepair and repurposed it into a vibrant cultural centre for the City. I started working as an interior designer and I designed accessories and furniture for my customers. As my creations met with success, I decided to design my own collections for home. Today, my Serial Kollection includes: lights, mirrors, coffee tables, coat racks and cushions, but my imagination and creativity have no limit and I am working on new products and collections! I design all my products that are made in France. Every single creation can be customised: size, colour etc. I work and live in France (Paris) but I also work abroad as I can speak English and Italian. I work as an interior designer or as a designer, with professionals: restaurants, hotels and private individuals too. Osmo Excels At Oxford When Brasenose College extended its student library into the old cloisters and required a hardwearing wood finish for the tops of the new desks, they turned to Osmo UK to provide a product that would protect and preserve the wooden surfaces. Situated in the heart of Oxford, Brasenose College overlooks Radcliffe Square and is a short walk from University departments and libraries, as well as shops, pubs, cafes and markets. The Brasenose Library is central to the college and holds more than 60,000 books and periodicals. With a steady stream of students using these facilities every day, the new desk tops have to be hard wearing in order not to deteriorate and become damaged over time.

Steel windows and doorsets complete four-storey tannery conversion Steel Window Association (SWA) member, West Leigh, has won the gratitude and admiration of a client local to its south London premises, for the quality of the firm’s W20 window and door package which completed the renovation and re-configuration of an old Victorian tannery building. Dating from 1850, Number 3 Tanner Street in Bermondsey was purchased by Sanjay Sharma ten years ago with the intention of turning it into a permanent home for himself and his family. Despite the property having undergone a 1980s refurbishment which concealed many of the property’s original features, Sanjay and his architect could see the potential for opening up and extending the building while restoring its character.
