18 LUXURY TRAVEL THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
The entire hotel pays tribute to the elegant horses that reside in the paddocks and stables. ‘Selman’ was the original sire of a line of purebred horses, and the owners of Selman Marrakech, a Moroccan family, have chosen to recreate this awe-inspiring equine lineage as well as recreate the golden age of Moroccan culture within the property.
Renowned for their dedication to horses, the hotel now invites its guests to live the unique experience through a personal development workshop, ‘equitherapy’, where the horse acts as a companion to psychological and spiritual development, thanks to its phenomenal ability to connect with humans. Equitherapy is known to help overcome anxieties, lack of confidence and can assist with stress management and emotional control. The horse acts as a catalyst for development opportunities which can be transferred to everyday life. It’s truly profound!
Furthermore, the Selman Marrakech boasts an array of sumptuous rooms, suites and villas, many overlooking limpid pools shaded by date palms, all embracing an Arab-Moorish atmosphere with refined textures, fine fabrics and traditional furnishing blending into a warm and homely spirit, with luxury infused in every small detail.

This newly restructured wellness offering brings a new approach to regaining rhythm and balance for mind and body. 1904, the year in which Paris saw the birth of a new luxury fashion house, Ernest Chausseur, a stone’s throw from the famous Moulin Rouge.
Dancers, women of the world, artists - the whole of Paris was thrilled by the House’s first creations. It gradually became a benchmark brand, creating veritable objects of fantasy.
Helmut Newton, Berlin’s master photographer, fell under the spell of “Elysée”, irresistible at just 14cm tall. He decided to sublimate femininity in his work, making Ernest his faithful ally.
At the dawn of wisdom, in the 80s, Ernest accompanied celebrities, to sublimate them, in the Parisian nightlife.
Ernest turns heads… it was the first brand, to make its creations an object driven solely by desire.
In the 80s, the first artistic crushes with fashion icons. Jean-Paul Gaultier, a great admirer of the brand, was involved in the creation of the iconic “GO” shoe.
The friendship between Ernest and the designer, in the sailor suit, led to several collaborations on catwalk shows and advertisements.
Despite its incredible heritage, the iconic Parisian fashion house had fallen a little asleep by the early 2000s...
Since 2020, a new tandem with Ludovic Dedieu Wallerand as Managing Director and Isabelle Bordji as Artistic Director has woken up the sleeping beauty and brought Maison Ernest back to centre stage.
Beyonce, Monica Bellucci, Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss, Cardi, B, Muni Long, Madonna, Barbie, and a host of European and American actresses have all come into contact with Maison Ernest’s creations.
Maison Ernest has never renounced the excellence of its know-how, the materials used and its incredible comfort, which makes you feel like a Hollywood star for hours on end...
“That’s why a Maison Ernest creation is so jubilant and addictive...”

HOUSE OF MERAKI X GEMFIELDS LAUNCHES NEW EMERALD PIECES EXCLUSIVELY ON NET-A-PORTER
Exclusively available on Net-a-Porter, and launching in the emerald month, is a new collaboration between Gemfields and House of Meraki. Emerald-focused fine jewellery brand House of Meraki is the brainchild of Gargi Rathi, known to some in the jewellery world as the “Emerald Lady”, for her passion for these vibrant green gems.
Meraki Emeralds is an exquisite jewellery collection meticulously crafted to celebrate the essence of strong and independent women. Following on from House of Meraki’s popular J’aime collection, it embodies the spirit of empowerment, resilience and grace that defines the women we admire and aspire to be. The emeralds found in each piece in this collection have been carefully chosen, their captivating allure and radiance mirroring the inner strength and beauty of the wearer. With its timeless elegance and
modern sophistication, Meraki Emeralds serves as a symbol of empowerment, inspiring women to embrace their unique qualities, conquer challenges and shine brightly in every aspect of their lives.
At the centre of all of Gargi’s designs, in this and previous collections, are emeralds, which also take centre stage this month as the birthstone of May. This Meraki Emeralds range features colourless diamonds, 18k gold and Gemfields’ responsibly mined Zambian emeralds, fitting as Rathi was inspired to forge a career in jewellery as a child, having visited the Zambian weekly markets with her mother and been dazzled by the green of emeralds she saw being offered for sale from miners on the side of the road.
Witnessing the beauty of Zambian emeralds as a child left an indelible impression on Gargi, which, in turn, led to an obsession with the gemstone and a determination to make emeralds more accessible to women in their everyday life.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
The new Net-a-Porter collection is a continuation of J’aime, and features pieces that have all been handcrafted by skilled artisans. Quality and craftsmanship are hallmarks of all House of Meraki designs, and these are no exception.
The timing of the launch is no coincidence, with emerald month providing the perfect backdrop to celebrate the exquisite beauty and rarity of emeralds – which are rarer and often dearer than colourless diamonds. Gemfields has unearthed some of the world’s finest emeralds from its Kagem mine in Zambia and is something of an expert on these beguiling and coveted gemstones.
Emeralds are versatile and bring a pop of colour and fun to any ensemble. They can be worn in a variety of ways, mismatched or stacked, subtly or in a statement piece. They must be cared for well – cleaned and stored appropriately and not scratched by harder stones. It is important to choose the right gemstone by following a few simple rules: look for evenness of colour and good saturation; view the gem in daylight for the most accurate appraisal; buy only from a trusted source committed to responsible practices; look for something that has rarity value, but above all, a buyer should choose the gemstone that they really fall in love with.

LONDON BLUE TOPAZ COCKTAIL RING
DIVER NET AZURE DIVER X SKELETON AZURE
TWO HIGH-TECH TIMEPIECES WORTHY OF THE OCEAN DEPTHS.
To celebrate World Oceans Day, Ulysse Nardin has chosen azure blue. This aquatic shade refreshes the Diver X Skeleton, which remains powerful and ultra-accurate even in the Ocean depths, and the Diver Net, which offers innovative durability.
Ulysse Nardin’s affinity for the marine world dates back to 1846 and the Manufacture’s first marine chronometers. Their accuracy was vital for setting the course of a ship and explorers’ lives depended on it. The Ocean itself is now in danger, and its survival depends on the sustainable management of environmental resources. The United Nations has dedicated an international day to it, an opportunity for Ulysse Nardin to support the NGO OCEARCH and shark
activist Mike Coots and to put its expertise in innovation and timekeeping at the service of this essential cause. From an aesthetic point of view, touches of azure blue contrast with the anthracite shades of the Diver X Skeleton and the Diver Net. But, most importantly, the Manufacture has succeeded in using raw and recycled materials responsibly without compromising on the excellence expected of Haute Horlogerie.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
Ninety percent of large fish populations have been depleted, fifty percent of coral reefs have been destroyed, and nine million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the Ocean each year. In light of this situation, Ulysse Nardin, pioneers in using revolutionary materials, last year presented the Diver Net, made from upcycled materials. This exceptional watch – a first when it launched – was the product of a collaboration between the Manufacture and several start-ups. Its case is made from Carbonium® (with a 40% lower environmental impact than other carbon composites), Nylo® (recycled polyamide from fishing nets), and 95% recycled steel. This particularly high percentage represents a further improvement on the first Diver Net, which contained 80% recycled steel. The new Diver Net Azure is powered by the iconic UN-118 movement, fitted with a silicon balance-spring, and an escapement wheel and an anchor in DiamonSil.
This fine watchmaking piece, waterresistant up to 300 metres, is adorned with blue, highlighting the X on the dial, the display indications, and the markings on the bezel. The rubber strap features the colours of the Ocean too.
The ultra-technical and powerful Diver X Skeleton Azure revolutionises the aesthetics of diving watches. With its titanium DLC case water-resistant to 200 metres, this extraordinary piece presents a dynamic skeletonised face/dial marked with an X in

deep black and azure blue. The transparency of the dial and movement draws the eye deep into the heart of the mechanism. Carbonium®, a light and resistant technical composite, tops the barrel cover and the unidirectional rotating bezel for measuring immersion times. Its UN-372 Manufacture calibre stands out for its reliability and accuracy and is fitted with an extra-large oscillator and a silicon escapement wheel, anchor and balance-spring, all produced in-house, which is rare in watchmaking. Silicon, which was used for the first time in watchmaking by Ulysse Nardin in the Freak in 2001, has a number of exceptional properties, such as anti-magnetism and resistance to oxidation and deforming, which improve the accuracy and reliability of its timekeeping. With the blue extending onto the crown protector and rubber strap, there can be no doubt that the new Diver X Skeleton Azure fearlessly dares to explore as yet uncharted waters.
With the Diver Net Azure and the Diver X Skeleton Azure, Ulysse Nardin, which specialises in accuracy and watchmaking innovation, is bringing the Ocean cause to the fore, along with the pressing need to reinvent ourselves in order to protect it.

In occasion of the launch of the new Mediterranea High-Jewelry collection, Bulgari unveils an exceptional range of High-End Watches, combining the most brilliant Italian creativity with the most exquisite Swiss watchmaking tradition.
In a sumptuous celebration of beauty and craftsmanship, Bulgari interprets the Mediterranean inspiration conceiving outstanding one-of-a-kind timepieces for both women and men.

Giardino Marino Piccolo
The design studio, along with the brand’s skilled artisans and color gemstones experts, gave life to two underwater gardens where the flexible structure, along with a variety of hidden treasures and living reef convey a sense of vibrancy and joy. all the elements - fixed, moving or set on tremblers, - are assembled on a flexible bracelet made of coral-shaped parts in white gold evoking the movement of sea waves while providing comfort on the wrist. Bulgari was inspired by the nineties’ naturalia collection, and in particular, by a heritage shell brooch set with sapphires and a cabochon emerald.
The Giardino Marino Grande secret watch, that required more than 3,900 hours to be completed, steals the spotlight with an exceptional combination of fishes, seashells, anemones set on tremblers, mobile corals, and decorated beads, all crafted from over 4,800 colorful precious stones and gems, carefully matched to obtain vibrant color effects. By the lively reef, two sea world treasures can be discovered: a starfish showing a central 3,96-carat cabochon rubellite, and a seashell paved with diamonds and Paraiba tourmalines. Both detachable, they can be worn as earrings complementing the watch. another sapphire-paved shell opens by pressing the round diamond revealing a pearl inside. the last treasure is hidden behind the central fish: the dial of the watch powered by the Piccolissimo micro mechanical movement. With a 12mm diameter, a thickness of 2.50mm and a weight of just 1.30 grams, Bulgari’s
Piccolissimo is the smallest round mechanical caliber on the market and a testament to the Maison’s art of miniaturization. exceptional craftsmanship and vibrant colorful stones meet watchmaking know-how to reveal a true masterwork.
An impressive degradé of blue and green defines the Giardino Marino Piccolo
secret watch, where a reef featuring fishes, anemones, and seashells is recreated in a Southern italy-inspired vibrant color palette, with the use of diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, Paraiba tourmalines, tanzanite, green tourmalines, tsavorites, topaz and peridot. a central see-through topaz reveals the dial of the watch featuring the Piccolissimo mechanical micro round movement.

Under a cabochon-inspired dome, Bulgari recreated a miniaturized living aquarium in the Divas’ Dream Acquarium watch. over a dial paved with degradé Paraiba tourmalines, sapphires and diamonds, two fishes, - each of them enriched with two pear-shaped stones: the former with rubies and rubellites, the latter with Paraiba tourmalines and sapphires, - swim thanks
to a sophisticated jewelry technique. at the same time, set on tremblers, corals, shells and stones float like in the sea world. adding extra preciousness, the white gold flexible bracelet is paved with Paraiba tourmalines, sapphires and diamonds, while the case back is hand engraved with a dedicated marine drawing.
Undisputed creativity and unparalleled craftsmanship brought to life the Octo Roma Mediterranea secret men’s watch, characterized by a precious octopus crafted with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and Paraiba tourmalines that gives the impression of stepping back, while its tentacles seem emerging from the medallion. Showing a 44 mm rose gold case set with diamonds and a blue alligator strap, the watch reveals an ultra-thin manual movement, BVL 268 SK caliber with flying tourbillon.
ROMAN SPLENDOR
Celebrating and elevating its signature use of Greek and roman coins within its collections, - a practice introduced by nicola Bulgari in the Sixties, - Bulgari decided to employ the antique art of cameo carving to enrich the “roman Splendor” range. dating back as far as the 5th century Bc in Greece, the exquisite cameo art became extremely popular in ancient rome, especially in the family circle of augustus. to honor this tradition, while exalting its roman roots, Bulgari wanted to pay tribute to the greatest sovereigns of all times: cleopatra, Queen of egypt, and the First emperor of rome augusto ottaviano.

SERPENTI 75
A powerful symbol among different Mediterranean cultures, from Mesopotamia and egypt to ancient Greece and ancient rome, the snake is one of Bulgari’s most legendary icons.
Celebrating the 75th anniversary since its first appearance in the roman house’s jewelry collections, the snake is now honored with two incredible high-end watches included in the Mediterranea lineup.
Sinuously wrapping around the wrist, the new Serpenti Misteriosi Pallini secret watch is inspired by 1955’s yellow gold and diamond Serpenti secret watch. thanks to the introduction of the Piccolissimo movement, for the first time featured in a Pallini watch, the proportions were significantly reduced guaranteeing an elegant aesthetic balance and impeccable fit. Showing Bulgari’s status as the master of colored gems, emeralds, Paraiba tourmalines and diamonds are wonderfully combined in this exclusive creation and are set on tremblers guaranteeing dynamic movement for this patented bracelet design. the white gold watch head is enriched with round brilliant-cut diamonds and two pear-shaped emerald eyes.

THE OWO & THE HOUSE OF BOVET WHERE HERITAGE, INNOVATION, AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL COME TOGETHER
The 18K red gold cases of the timepieces are decorated with a hand-engraved “egg and dart” motif found throughout The OWO property, while the BOVET bow at 12 o’clock is hand-engraved with a marble shell motif, visible on the fireplaces and moldings. The unique dial is patterned after the Rose Ceiling above the Grand Staircase of The OWO.
The following quote from Winston Churchill is engraved on the back of the case:
“We Shape Our Dwellings, and Afterwards Our Dwellings Shape Us.”
THE PROJECT
For more than a century, The OWO (formerly the Old War Office) was closed to the public, designed to keep people out and its secrets in.
Now, thanks to the Hinduja Group and Onex Holding, The OWO is a new center for living, entertainment, and fine dining in the very heart of London. Renovated, remodelled, and reconfigured as London’s first Raffles Hotel and Residences, The OWO offers 120 guest rooms and suites and 85 residences, including a super luxurious penthouse, nine restaurants and three bars.
To celebrate the completion of the building and the incredible living spaces within, The OWO Residences has partnered with BOVET 1822 as its Official Timepiece.
Steeped in history and tradition, BOVET was founded in London and at the same time registered in Fleurier in 1822. London is therefore a historically important place for the Maison. Since 1822, BOVET has been focused on handcrafting the most beautiful timepieces the world has ever seen.
Each of the owners of the 10 most luxurious residences within The OWO, including the outstanding penthouse, will be gifted a specially created, handcrafted solid 18K red gold BOVET timepiece, produced, hand-engraved and hand-assembled at the Home of BOVET, a 14th century castle located in the Swiss Jura mountains.
BOVET 1822 and the Hinduja Group met by chance in Monaco, during the Formula 1 GP race, where BOVET was exhibiting its collection of fine timepieces. The Hinduja Group was looking for an extraordinary timepiece partner, one that had a long tradition and was renowned for handcraftsmanship and innovation -- BOVET 1822 suited the project perfectly.
Committed to making The OWO Edition 19Thirty special, members of the BOVET team visited the site in its early days. They paid special attention to the unique handcrafted touches and artistic details in the building that celebrated the craftspeople that forged it more than a hundred years ago.
Drawing from these details, Mr. Raffy designed the timepiece and the crafting of the exclusive edition of 10 timepieces began.

In the BOVET manufacture, every timepiece is touched by many pairs of human hands – there are no assembly lines to be seen. Each case and bow of The OWO Special Edition are hand-engraved in BOVET’s atelier, taking more than 20 hours of intense handwork to complete.
A fitting tribute to The OWO, the 10-piece OWO Edition of the 19Thirty combines modern high-watchmaking with artisanal métiers d’art and painstaking attention to detail.
A LITTLE OWO HISTORY
The Grade II* listed Old War Office building is steeped in history. Formerly the site of the original Palace of Whitehall (home to monarchs between 1530 – 1698), this architectural masterpiece has witnessed world-shaping events whilst influential political and military leaders including Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George, and Lord Kitchener held office.
It also inspired Ian Fleming to write the James Bond series after working for Britain’s Naval Intelligence Division. The building has been used as a film location in five Bond films.
From young ministers, Lords and Ladies to actors and orators, the Old War Office was the workplace of these legendary figures:
• Lord Kitchener, face of the iconic “Your Country Needs You” campaign
• T.E. Lawrence, latterly known as “Lawrence of Arabia,” who served as a draughtsman
• Ian Fleming, creator of 007 James Bond and one-time Commander of Naval Intelligence during WWII
• Sir Winston Churchill, the iconic British Prime Minister

Architect Egidio Panzera has renovated an elegant villa in Portopiccolo, overlooking the Gulf of Trieste. Local materials and seaside colors mold a refined space, whose interiors and outdoor spaces weave a surprising and fascinating dialogue.
EGIDIO PANZERA DESIGNS A GEMLIKE VILLA IN PORTOPICCOLO ON THE GULF OF TRIESTE
The exclusive village of Portopiccolo is the backdrop of the latest project carried out by the firm Egidio Panzera Architect: a stylish villa overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, renovated to create a sophisticated residence facing the sea.
Consisting of a single unit that was previously split into two apartments with a common stairwell, the dwelling includes a basement, ground, and top floor.
The client’s wish was to create a perfect balance between the interior and outdoor spaces, connecting the home’s more reserved rooms with the garden of the seaside villa.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 76 LUXURY HOMES
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
Egidio Panzera achieved permeability between the inside and outside with large openings imposed by the reinforced concrete structure and also using materials and color hues inspired by the surrounding nature.
EXTERIOR
The villa’s exterior is characterized by a composed duality: the architect’s work is particularly noticeable on the ground floor, giving it a modern and dynamic appearance, while, on the upper floor, the original appearance of the home was intentionally kept in harmony with the village. This duplicity is also emphasized by the different colors of the exterior plastering: white on the top floor and gray on the ground floor.
The garden — a seafront terrace — encircles the residence on three sides, configuring the space to create three different areas.
The first one consists of an infinity pool which, almost like an artificial continuation of the seawater, fits the shape of the property’s border. A wooden surface acting as a sundeck appears to float between the water and the lawn.
The second part is the outdoor dining area, where a round table resting against the perimeter wall to elude hard corners, faces
towards the Duino Castle and to where, at dusk, the sun sinks into the sea.
The third area is a large pergola that surrounds the house, producing, with its filtering canopy of teak slats, a graceful interplay of light and shadows. It houses a monolithic outdoor stoneware kitchen by Modulnova.
The home’s large windows are shielded by chic wooden sliding sun breakers that characterize the facade aesthetically and alternately obscure and disclose the view of the interiors from the sea and from the boats in the harbor. These help to weave the inside-outside dialogue that appears in all its glory when we move inside the
villa. Indeed, the windows can disappear by sliding into the perimeter walls, creating a seamless space between the interior and exterior, between the private space, the sea, and the sky.
GROUND FLOOR
From the dwelling’s entrance, three large tactile horizontal and vertical planes project the space outwards, visually connecting it with the living room, the garden, and the sea horizon. The bush-hammered Aurisina Granitello stone floor is the first of these planes, leading from the entrance into the living area.
Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY 77 LUXURY HOMES
The second plane — a wooden slat false ceiling — stretches as far as the kitchen and, on the other side, rests against a large textured wall. The latter is the third plane, which accompanies the full length of the living room. This wall is clad in Aurisina Lumachella stone, a rare fossil marble encapsulating a mixture of organic intrusions; its surface is crafted to create vertical stone ridges reminiscent of the typical coastal karst shores carved by the erosive action of the sea and wind. The warm hues of the wooden parquet floor, recaptured in the false ceiling, imbue the spaces with a cozy atmosphere.
Behind the living area, characterized by the Flexform Cestone sofa, the dining room originates from what was once a porch and has now been incorporated into the interior project. This space, existing between the inside and outside and carrying with it the aesthetic features of one and the other, is served by an internal Valcucine kitchen and, when the large windows are open in summer, by the outdoor kitchen.
There is, in this project, continual dialogue between the interior and exterior resulting from an in-depth study of colors and textures carried out by Studio Panzera. An example is an exclusive hack used as a solution for the elevator shaft. This is concealed by a De Castelli oxidized metal sheet, with colors merging from blue to green, picking up on the shades of the Trieste sea. The same colors we again find in the furniture of the living area and the adjoining dining room, where the lava and glass Sciara table and Portofino chairs by Paola Lenti are dressed in light blue, dark blue, and green, in the interests of achieving great chromatic harmony.
A wellness area completes the ground floor and is accessed through a door concealed in the Lumachella wall of the living room. Here, in addition to the gym, three spaces appear in succession: a sauna, steam room, and dressing room. Clad in timber and green Costa Smeralda marble, the sauna
and steam room show off their textural elegance and proportions, in contrast with the dressing room areas, in which metal, concrete, and molded glass give a rawer aesthetic.
TOP FLOOR
The top floor is reached via the lift from the living room. Alternatively, the stairs can be used; here, a blanket of copper-toned metallic mesh, vibrating in the grazing light, flanks the double height of the stairwell.
On the top floor, the hallway divides the guest rooms and their dedicated ensuites

A large glass door leads straight from the sauna to the garden and swimming pool.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
from the master bedroom. The latter has been conceived as a stylish independent suite, with the custom-designed furniture allocating various functions to the different spaces: a walk-in wardrobe, sleeping area, breakfast area, home office, and bathroom.
Here, again, the materials have been carefully selected, ranging from DeCastelli oxidized sheet metal, desaturated green and blue timbers, and caramel leather inlays to the green leather of the upholstered bed, OmniDecor decorated glass, and Aurisina stone.
Copper-toned metallic mesh divides the home office area from the bed and acts as a light source. Indeed, a well-concealed LED grazing light makes its surface vibrate, turning it into a “jewel” of light and reflections.
The double-height with a sloped wooden ceiling casts the space towards the sea view.
The bedroom opens onto a large private terrace, providing an exclusive view of the headland and the Duino Castle.
Simple and elegant shades adorn the bathroom. For its design, the architect again used local materials, such as Aurisina stone, which covers the floor and blends perfectly with the furniture. The neutral
grays are offset by the textured wood on the wall, bringing warmth to the space. The decorated glass comes from the Linee collection, designed by Egidio Panzera for OmniDecor.
BASEMENT
The basement, which has been specifically designed as a space for recreation and entertaining guests, provides direct access to the jetty. An extensive open space houses a custom-designed kitchen, a living area with large reconfigurable sofas, a large co-working
table, and a home theater. This space leads off to two guest rooms and the bathrooms.
The mellow gray shades of the HD Surface concrete resin floor are broken by the color of the textured walls and by the large cork wall intended to hold notes, drawings, and mementos linked to this place, in the form of photos and polaroids.
Like the rest of the house, this storey takes advantage of a sophisticated home automation system, allowing all aspects to be managed remotely: security, temperature, sound and video systems, the opening and closing of entrances, lighting, sauna, steam room, and swimming pool.
A wine cellar is also located in the basement. It’s a semi-circular room dug out of the mountain rock. This little amphitheater is divided vertically into three parts. From bottom to top is a wooden bench, followed by rock, and, finally, the bottle display stands hanging from the ceiling.
Great emphasis and theatricality are bestowed by the lighting; a linear light brightens the stone surface and casts indirect backlighting on the bottles. An Occhio Light spotlight illuminates a circular impression in the ceiling, enabling, by reflection, this flattened dome to become the light fixture for the space.

CHARLIE SMALLBONE INTRODUCES THE STUNNING MALTA PENTHOUSE PROJECT
This stylish contemporary penthouse, located in Malta, boasts breath-taking views over the island thanks to floor-to-ceiling glazing that opens onto three expansive outdoor terraces with sitting and dining areas. There’s even room for a swimming pool!
Creating a kitchen and bar area that would perfectly complement this luxurious setting was no small undertaking – but Charlie Smallbone rose to the challenge! Here, he tells us how the design as a whole came together.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 88 LUXURY HOMES
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
Ledbury Studio has reached new heights with its latest project – all the way to the 15th floor, to be precise.
What was the brief for this project?
“The couple who own the apartment have grown-up children with families of their own, so they wanted it to be a space where they could all gather. When they acquired the property, it was an empty shell, giving them the freedom to design a fully open-plan space. In the resulting layout, spaces flow effortlessly into each other – from a comfortable living room, to a kitchen and dining area, and finally to a bar with additional seating. My brief was to design furniture that would contribute to that feeling of openness by creating linked but distinct areas where the family could socialise and enjoy everything from dinners to casual snacks and drinks.”
Were there any particular challenges with the kitchen?
“The kitchen comprises a generous island that serves as the centrepiece, backed by a single row of cupboards that provide space for storage, appliances and a breakfast cupboard. Our challenge was that the kitchen is located in the middle of the space without any walls to work with. Therefore, all components had to be freestanding and are visible from every angle, including from above when walking up the stairs.
“To address this, we clad the backs in a mixture of beautiful materials that look good wherever you stand in the space. On the back of the breakfast cupboard is polished fluted stainless steel (above left). Meanwhile, the microwave section of the tall cupboard features a screen made from wooden slats with backlit opaque glass slivers, and the fridge-freezer is backed in polished mica panels (above right).”
The island is a monumental piece, what was the thought process behind its design?
“Yes, the island is quite large – measuring almost 5 metres by 1.5 metres! But when you’re designing for a space of such huge proportions, with 10-metre-high ceilings,
an average-sized island would look all wrong. You have to work with the scale of the building to ensure the island is proportional. We then added to the drama with a waterfall worktop of Mont Blanc quartzite, which ‘flows’ over the end.
On the front, we added eye-catching polished mica panels and a liquid metal kicker. All the materials on the island both look great and are easy to clean, making them practical choices that combine to create a truly show-stopping piece.”
Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY 89 LUXURY HOMES
How did you make this a functional as well as beautiful kitchen?
“The island’s size also means that we could accommodate many of the working elements of the kitchen within it, as well as generous bar seating. It features a hob with integrated extraction, sink with Quooker
boiling-water tap, plus a 900cm-wide builtunder oven, a dishwasher and plenty of storage to keep the kitchen clutter free.
“The tall cupboard includes a large cabinet with pocket doors, which cleverly hide prep space, storage and additional sink all in one area, so any cooking detritus can
be concealed as needed. There is further storage above and below the microwave oven and a fridge-freezer to the left. We grounded this large piece of furniture in the room with timeless black palm veneer for the fronts, with a stained oak frame that is the same shade as the oak ceiling.”
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
The breakfast cupboard is a great addition, what can you tell us about it?
“The idea behind the breakfast cupboard was to create a standalone piece that was completely different from everything else in the kitchen. As such, it is made of stainless steel with liquid bronze pocket doors that slide back to offer full access. Inside, there are polished stainless steel and walnut drawers, as well as a countertop made of practical Mont Blanc quartzite, which adds to the modern elegance of the piece.”
Round the corner from the kitchen is the bar area – what was your concept for this?
“To tie the bar’s design to that of the kitchen, we once again used black palm for the base cabinets and the same bronze handles. We then harnessed our signature use of metal to create hammered pewter fronts for the wine cabinets. To add a dash of theatre to the space, we chose crystal quartzite for the worktop and framing, both of which are lit from underneath to create a stunning effect at night!
And your favourite part of the project as a whole?
“I have to say that I love the funky bar table! It’s shaped like a shield with a centre section in onyx that is lit from underneath, with black and white marble and a leather armrest around the outside. The blackened steel legs hide all the electric components of the design. Sitting at that table, having a drink from the bar, and enjoying those views, it doesn’t get any better than that!”

LUXURY PET FURNITURE
AS YOU KNOW, DOGS LOVE THE COUCH. NOW THEY CAN HAVE THEIR OWN, EXCEPTIONAL PLACE!!
Pet Empire specialises in the manufacture of exceptional and high quality pet furniture for dogs and cats. Each pet couch is created using high quality materials that are durable, comfortable, and have an attractive design. At Pet Empire, we focus primarily on providing the highest quality, not mass production.
Pet Empire furniture is handcrafted in a small family manufacture by the best, talented craftsmen who spend hours on each pet sofa in order to make it as luxurious and comfortable as possible. Thanks to this, each piece of Pet Empire furniture is made with the accuracy that only an enthusiast can provide and which only a luxury lover will truly appreciate. It is the same quality as in high end human furniture and it will last a lifetime.
Glamour Sofa – our hidden gem
Pet Empire’s flagship product is Glamour. The detailing is inspired by the famous Chesterfield sofa with its pleating and deep buttoning, which are one of the most laborious techniques and can only be completed by hand. The Glamour pet sofa is meticulously deep buttoned with
more than 100 handmade buttons which are hammered into the frame. The manual production methods that we use are based on techniques known only to highly specialised craftsmen with many years of experience. Built on a wooden frame, it is a miniature version of the original Lord Chesterfield sofa.
Exclusive materials – upholstery that makes a difference
At Pet Empire, we focus primarily on providing the highest quality, not mass production.
All the materials from which our luxury pet beds are manufactured are pet-friendly and easy to clean, all you need is a damp cloth. The fabrics are 75,000 Martindale cycle test quality, which gives extreme durability. Fabrics of this quality are used for high traffic public spaces. In addition, the cushion covers have zippers, allowing them to be taken off and washed. The internal cushions are made of highstandard, fireproof foam and have an
additional fabric layer in case of spillage or soiling. The cushions are attached to the frame with Velcro strips, so they can be easily removed in order to clean the sofa. At the same time, the strips prevent the pillows from moving around.
The comfort and safety of pets above all
We put our four-legged friends first.
That is why luxury design is not our only priority. We also focus on ergonomics and functionality. We perfectly understand that a dog bed should, above all, be comfortable and safe. Due to it’s solid sturdy, wooden frame it will stay in place even during the most frantic playtime with your best furry friend. If you loose your breath during the fun run even you can sit on it.

MASALA ZONE PICCADILLY CIRCUS

The latest opening from MW Eat - the group behind Masala Zone and finedining classics: Chutney Mary, Amaya and Veeraswamy – is the group’s seventh restaurant in London.
Housed in a historic building adjacent to the famous statue of Eros, Masala Zone Piccadilly Circus will be initially open for lunch and dinner; but will soon also offer afternoon tea followed shortly by breakfast, affording Londoners and visitors to the capital alike an authentic taste of India at any time of the day.
Subtle spicing and profound flavours lie at the heart of Masala Zone’s dishes using historic recipes from gourmet homes and generations of India’s street food masters. Masala Zone Piccadilly Circus’ menu will consist of showstopping grazing dishes such as sprouted lentil bhel, vada pao sliders and gourmet grills including Lucknowi lamb biriyani and paneer tikka, alongside regional curries and traditional thalis.
Desserts are no afterthought, with quintessential Indian sweet treats fashioned by the restaurant’s ‘Halwais’ (dessert chefs). Highlights include smooth and flavoursome kulfis and the classic Gujarati shrikhand dessert.
Alongside an array of classic cocktails that have been given a Masala Zone twist, such as chai-infused Negronis and rose and cardamom-infused almond sours, Masala Zone Piccadilly Circus will have a list of wines that flatter the range of spices within the menu, alongside a classic selection of beers.
The owners of Masala Zone believe that the interiors of their restaurants should thrill as much as their flavours do. The stunning interior design of the new Piccadilly restaurant exudes inspiration from India at every turn combined with contemporary design, the restaurant’s interior hallmark. This ranges from a vibrant colour scheme of deep purples, bold reds and rich greens to the metallic panels housing sculptures and paintings from India.
Luxurious banquettes, adorned in rich furnishings will be dotted around the 150-cover venue with tabletops exhibiting a variety of maximalist patterns. A contemporary take on the traditional Jali screens surround distinct seating areas, punctuating the room. In honour of India’s love of luminous displays, showstopping light fixtures will hang from the ceiling. The bar is also set to be a dazzling affair; its luminous LED bar front a design of red onyx, creating a focal point to the room.

BMW AND TYDE PRESENT THE ICON, A NEW FLAGBEARER FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY ON WATER
Last month the 76th Cannes Film Festival took place, but one particularly spectacular world premiere on the bill was experienced in the port area of the southern French town rather than on a cinema
This is where the BMW brand and boat maker TYDE presented THE ICON, a new kind of flagbearer for sustainable mobility on water. THE ICON is the first batterypowered marine craft of its kind and brings together locally emission-free travel with a vision of luxury that embraces pleasure.
At 13.15 metres in length and with a top speed of 30 knots, THE ICON is a trailblazer for a new breed of watercraft with batteryelectric drive. BMW came up with the idea and developed the concept for this pioneering collaborative endeavour.

screen.
The innovative project is the result of an in-depth sharing of knowledge between experts from myriad branches of mobility, with the BMW team at the helm. Responsible for the design of THE ICON are the creatives at innovation hub Designworks, a BMW Group subsidiary with studios in Los Angeles, Munich and Shanghai. The development and realisation of the concept was entrusted to boat maker TYDE. And the powerful electric drive system sources its energy from high-voltage batteries supplied by BMW i.
The marine travel experience created through this confluence of talents is accompanied by an exclusive soundtrack
composed by award-winning film score luminary Hans Zimmer.
BMW points the way for innovative concepts driving sustainable mobility.
As the pioneering force behind THE ICON, BMW is once again demonstrating a holistic commitment to sustainable mobility that encompasses not only road transportation but also travel on water. Pooling technological expertise from various fields creates ground-breaking solutions that have people at their heart.
THE ICON also encapsulates a future-facing form of luxury. The innovative craft appeals with its unique design, and it also offers passengers a totally new experience of mobility. Here, amid an exclusive on-board ambience, exquisite comfort converges with a significantly reduced environmental impact.
Innovations from yacht racing enable electrification and decarbonisation on the water.
THE ICON uses a battery-electric drive system to set new standards in its sector in various ways. Up to now, marine electric mobility has been restricted to smaller, slower craft with comparatively little range. And the segment for faster boats with
Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY 121 YACHTS & YACHTING
longer range is dominated by models with combustion engines. THE ICON redefines this relationship between the dimensions, top speed and range of an electrically powered watercraft.
Making this possible is an innovation from yacht racing: hydrofoils. These reduce the energy requirement by up to 80 per cent compared with a conventional hull. The foiling technology – whereby the craft rides on wing structures below the water level, while the hull floats above the surface of the water – also provides a higher level of travelling comfort and higher speeds.
A pair of 100 kW electric motors convert the 240 kWh of energy supplied by six batteries from the BMW i3 into an eye-catching range of more than 50 nautical miles (approx. 100 km). The craft can deliver an operating speed of 24 knots, while its maximum speed is 30 knots (55 km/h). Spurred on by its innovative drive system and foiling technology, THE ICON makes almost silent progress, without vibrations or shocks and without sending out waves.
Ensuring a similarly impressive onboard soundscape, meanwhile, is the Dolby Atmos system, with its ability to deliver superb audio quality. When it came to developing the sound concept – comprising the drive system note and pleasant, intuitive function tones – for the job at hand, BMW turned to double Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer. The revolutionary acoustic creations conjured by the Hollywood composer soundtrack a new era in the enjoyment of sustainable travel on water.
THE ICON: unparalleled innovative power also reflected in its design.
The design team had the task of translating the unique concept of THE ICON into an iconic experience – from its initial visual impact from the outside to the view out from the inside. The body of the watercraft, which is made up of a very flat hull and a
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023 122 YACHTS & YACHTING
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
central support element for the transparent architecture, is shaped by a technically precise design language. The basic outline, with its prism-like form, enables a width of 4.5 metres in the rear section. This creates a very spacious entrance into the luxurious lounge. The hull itself stands out with its origami lightweight structure. With the foiling technology enabling a particularly smooth traveling experience, the designers took the opportunity to replace the conventional side sections of a watercraft with large glass surfaces. Passengers therefore enjoy an extraordinary view while they glide above the water. Modern LED light strips at the bow and stern, and on the charging connection points feed into the iconic effect of THE ICON.
THE ICON: a social meeting place that’s at home in any port.
Angled glass doors provide access to a lounge area which, with its artistically designed furniture on a luxurious carpet, brings to mind a kaleidoscope. Every piece is formed from sections of metal sheeting whose granular surface structure reflects the sunlight onto the floor like waves on the sea.
The 360° rotating seats are at the core of a user-focused experience, with all essential features – including a tablet-based infotainment system – arranged within reach. With a simple twist, the seats can be re-positioned to facilitate social interaction. This creates a fine meeting hub that will feel at home in any port or harbour.
BMW interface groups nautical instruments within a digital control unit.
The craft’s command station is located centrally on the deck and represents a compelling proposition with its ship’s wheel and instruments in authentic BMW design. Taking the place of the traditional array of nautical instruments is a fresh interpretation of the BMW interface
containing all important functions within a digital control unit. The intersection between human and machine comes in the form of a 32-inch touchscreen display with 6k resolution and the look and feel of the BMW iDrive control/operation system. Teaming up with BMW Operating System 8, this unlocks a new dimension in information visualisation and digital interaction. Key functions such as range information and weather reports can be called up using voice commands.
The watercraft revealed in Cannes for the first time is not a design study or a concept, but instead a fully production-ready example of its kind boasting pioneering technology. THE ICON is underpinned by a platform concept offering comprehensive adaptability to individual wishes and needs in terms of both the emotional experience
and interior design. It is focused on modern, urban lifestyles and can be used as a means of marine transport both by luxury-conscious private customers and in the commercial sector. The craft produced on the basis of THE ICON will accelerate the cause of emission-free luxury mobility on water and open up a whole new segment. Their mission will be to inspire CO2-free water-bound mobility – without polluting the environment, without any noise, but with comfort turned up to the max.
THE ICON impresses with a powerful drive system that creates neither noise nor emissions. Foiling technology allows it to reach high speeds without generating waves or dragging out a wake behind it. Indeed, the only things THE ICON leaves behind during every journey are pleasure and joy.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
Luxury British boatbuilder Fairline has revealed new interior and exterior images of its all-new model the Targa 40, which will make its world debut at boot Düsseldorf 2024.
The Targa 40 has an open cockpit design with a hardtop and electric canvas sunroof, opening the whole main deck. Echoing the lines and extensive glazing seen across the Fairline range, the Targa 40 floods the interior with natural light and uninterrupted views of the water.
Fairline’s in-house lead concept designer, Christian Gott, said of the new Targa 40: “The popularity of the Targa 38 cannot be disputed and this brand new 40 takes everything we loved about the 38 and elevates it for the 21st century. These new images showcase just what a wow factor the Targa 40 has and we can’t wait for Fairline fans to see it in person in January.”
The new Targa 40 has been designed with usable space in mind and features a powerdown beach club balcony to starboard. Twin sunbeds with floating backrests convert into sofas for guests to enjoy.
Featuring a large C-shaped seating / dining area and companion seating to port, a wet bar is nestled behind the two individual helm seats. The beautifully proportioned and ergonomically designed helm console is part of a wider focus on technology at Fairline. The latest Garmin touch screen multi-function displays enhance the
customer experience with a simplified and intuitive user interface allowing integrated control of all essential systems. Moving to the foredeck, the expansive sunbeds dominate, and the addition of a forwardfacing sofa at the bow enables guests to enjoy the views whilst cruising.
With four berths in a two-cabin layout, below deck replicates the sophisticated furnishings and flawless design on the main deck. The roomy master cabin is located forward with 1.98m (6’6”) headroom and
direct access to the en-suite which features a jack-and-jill door arrangement. In the mid-ship’s guest cabin, twin beds slide to convert to a double. The integrated garage boasts room for tenders of up to 2.7m with electric outboard.
Fairline’s Sales Director, James Powell said: “The Targa 40 is a major milestone in our new model development programme and follows the Squadron 58 which will make its world debut at Southampton International Boat Show this September.

MAESTRO 88 UNVEILED, THE NEW FLAGSHIP OF THE APREAMARE RANGE
Great projects, like great stories, can arise by chance, from the passionate and joyful intuitions of its protagonists. So it is in art or science, so it is in boating as well. This is the case for the Maestro line by Apreamare, which traces its origins to a restaurant in Genoa during the 2005 Boat Show, when the first sketches were drawn on a piece of paper. The fervent and creative mind of Cataldo Aprea conceived a motor-yacht to navigate in absolute safety and comfort, with great style.
Apreamare reveals preview images of the new full-custom semi-planing yacht destined to change the way we navigate and experience the sea: surprising volumes, timeless elegance, and superior quality of
life on board, united by that sense of safety and reliability that has always distinguished the Maestro line, now masterfully reinterpreted by the Casali-Tagliavini duo.
The success of the concept has inspired a new challenge for the Sorrento-based shipyard, addressed to Architect Marco Casali and Engineer Umberto Tagliavini.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
130 YACHTS & YACHTING THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
The challenger is a repeated and faithful Apreamare owner, eager for a larger boat capable of guaranteeing long and safe voyages in all weather conditions and a superior quality of life on board. After the initial evaluation, the shipyard and owner converge on the idea of a new flagship of over 27 metres in overall length, while remaining below the 24-metre regulatory threshold – and thus, the new Maestro 88 is born, a fully customized navetta with a semi-planing hull. While she strongly recalls the family-feeling of the previous Maestro line, the new flagship introduces innovative solutions and a fresh interpretation of style, form, and livability, just like the now iconic Gozzo line.
Starting from design imperatives and stylistic cornerstones, which form the basis for the large and livable cockpit and the unmistakably coordinated exteriors and interiors, Umberto Tagliavini of Marine Design proposed a dedicated hull geometry
to tame the sea, even in adverse weather conditions, ensuring the complete safety and comfort of guests on board.
Departing from her sisters in the previous Maestro line, rather than fully committing to planing, the hull is now semi-planing and optimized to face any seas and cruise at 18 knots in absolute comfort and silence, with the possibility to reach over 22 knots as maximum speed. Regarding propulsion options, the shipyard offers two efficient 1,600hp MAN engines, which will have 8,000 liters of fuel available for a maximum range of 1,000 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots. For his boat, the owner has chosen a larger engine configuration, a pair of 2,000hp MAN drives that guarantees a perfect balance of weight and power for long-range sailing with efficiency and a peaceful environment on board.
The external lines, endowed with great elegance and visual impact by the hand of
Marco Casali of Too Design, continuously dialogue with the indoor, which were designed to experience 360 degrees of sea. Compromises and renunciations were not permitted, resulting in continuous and direct visual contact with the outdoor. The connection with the marine element finds its natural quintessence on the large aft deck, in the bow lounge, across the sprawling beach club and through the long sliding glass windows. The expansive glazing also characterize the hull for a good part of its length, sending lots of light below deck, bringing out the chromatic games and nuances, and embellishing the marine reflections which are projected into the interiors.

IT’S ALL AROUND YOU
Welcome to Tiaré, a luxurious yet traditional Indonesian Phinisi that will take you on a journey of discovery to some of the most stunning diving spots in the world.
The Tiaré began as the dream of 5 cousins, discussed over a summer dinner party.
This dream to create a luxurious dive boat built by the master builders of South Sulawesi came together with careful design, the sturdiest and most beautiful materials sourced from sustainable sources, hightech components and safety equipment… and of course, time.
Experience diving in the rich waters of the Indonesian archipelago and meet people from the many different cultures on the diverse Indonesian islands that you would never have the opportunity to see while staying in more tourist-heavy areas.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON BOARD TIARÉ
Tiaré offers a spectacular experience for divers as well as non-divers, with bright airy cabins, spacious bathrooms and a large front deck where you can socialize, eat under the stars or just relax in the Indonesian sunshine. There is also a separate diving deck with hot water showers to warm up after a night dive.
All indoor and outdoor living areas, decks, and cabins are made with antique teak salvaged from old Joglos, which not only gives the feel of “real Indonesia”, but has helped to reduce the use of Indonesia’s disappearing rainforests.
LIVING AREA
Designed to be a space where you feel
totally at home with an extra touch of luxury, comfortable couches and tables are the perfect place to socialize and catch up with your fellow divers. If you need to rest, have a nap, read a book or watch a film. A bar stocked with imported wines and a selection of other drinks is a welcome treat after a day of diving and a small cigar store is available for cigar connoisseurs. As well as comfortable couches, the air-conditioned indoor lounge also has tables where dinner can be served as an alternative to the main deck depending on weather conditions and your preference. There are also PCs where you can edit photos or videos and also an indoor camera room, which has plenty of room to store your lenses, charges, lights and even your spare cameras.
Bow lounge
In addition to the indoor living area, the outdoor bow lounge is a space to enjoy and experience the freedom of being at sea. Watch the crew at work, birds flying overhead or count the millions of stars in the clear night sky from comfortable loungers and couches.
CABINS
More like a 5-star hotel than a boat, the six cabins on Tiaré are your home away from home designed with relaxation and the perfect sleep in mind. You’ll enjoy soft linens and well thought out lighting and plug placement as well as spacious ensuite bathrooms, hot water showers and environmental friendly body wash and shampoo.
Two triple cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two adults and one child or three adults, with under-bed storage to ensure ease of movement around the cabin. The other four cabins, two twin and two double, accommodate two adults each for a maximum capacity of 14 guests.
With 14 guests on board Tiaré is comfortable and spacious enough for both a social atmosphere and space to relax and enjoy down time in the luxurious cabins. www.tiarecruise.com

MEET DAWN HARLOW, AKA “THE QUEEN OF KUNDALINI YOGA”:
SHE’S THE EMPOWERMENT GURU WHO A-LISTERS AND LEADING ENTREPRENEURS AROUND THE WORLD HAVE ON SPEED DIAL
Kundalini differs from other forms of modern yoga. The ancient practice has elements of traditional roots of yoga. However, it is not about headstands, aesthetics, or twisting yourself into difficult poses. It is physical practice, but focuses on overcoming mental, emotional and physical challenges, accessing the flow of energy within the body to strengthen the mind, create vitality, a sense or peace, calm, and resilience.
It’s no surprise that celebrities and the world’s elite are all rolling out their yoga mats and dialling into online yoga sessions with “the queen of kundalini yoga”, Dawn Harlow to guide them on their self-improvement journey.
The globally renowned yoga teacher is a master of the practice, which dates back thousands of years and is the more mysterious yet powerful older sibling to modern day yoga. It is said to have a rapid transformational impact, releasing stress
and making you more fulfilled, happy, peaceful and creatively successful in every aspect of life.
“Every single person has something that kundalini yoga can help with, whether it’s stress, burn out, overwhelm, anxiety, depression, low confidence, creativity blocks, or dealing with the overhang of recent life changing events such as Covid – it can help with everyday struggles, getting you mentally prepared and ready to overcome challenges that may come your way,” says Dawn, who has practiced and taught globally for almost two decades.
Also known as a form of Raj yoga (meaning royal), for many years kundalini was shrouded in secrecy and reserved only for kings, queens and the elite. It then made its way to Hollywood, becoming the best kept secret of the a-list, with celebrities like Demi Moore, Madonna, Jennifer Anniston, Oprah, Michelle Obama, Cindy Crawford, Sting, Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson all said to be avid fans. It is the unspoken magic of many successful people.
The practice works to access an energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine in everyone. This energy is then moved up through the body, creating a powerful vitality to clear the organs, the subconscious mind and body’s energy systems. It’s achieved through a carefully crafted mix of kundalini methods including mantra, breathwork, physical yoga

movements and meditation. Scientific studies have shown a range of further benefits from sustained kundalini practice. It can be used as an effective treatment for stress and chronic sleep issues, can reduce the somatic symptoms of anxiety and depression, and has even been shown to have a positive impact a person’s overall disposition.
Dawn said: “I travelled around the globe in search of practices that would allow me to regain my power, happiness, creativity and harmony in life. I tried everything and stumbled across kundalini yoga by chance. This practice is by far one of the quickest transformative yogas – it’s magical.
“Kundalini yoga is a powerful science, working on the body meridian so that you are the creator and director of your own energy, thoughts, vitality and creativity. It’s life changing and can create new found energy and success in life. It’s known as the yoga that unlocks your ultimate self. The key thing to know about the practice is that this yoga brings a profound magic to your life.
“In my view, this should not be a best kept secret. It should be in every household. Just like going to the gym, we should all have a yogic meditative practice, particularly in these times.”
Dawn works internationally and splits her time between the UK, LA and Europe. Her headquarters are in Italy, at a 10th century UNESCO world heritage site castle hamlet. She has helped thousands of people across the globe to make positive changes that enhance every aspect of their lives. As well as coaching her a-list clientele, she is regularly invited all over the world as a speaker and special guest practitioner to bring her teachings to some of the world’s leading hotels and resorts, as well as Fortune 100 companies, where she works with CEOs and business leaders to stimulate new creative entrepreneurship and shake up the paradigms within the companies. TENNIS ELBOWWHAT IS IT AND HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM INJURY?
Summer is here and many of us will be hitting the courts to play tennis. However, if not done carefully and with technique, tennis elbow can occur, causing misery.
Tennis elbow is a degenerative condition of the tendons that causes pain on the outside of the elbow. It is often caused by repetitive actions and overuse and is age-related. You may notice pain on the outside of the elbow, which may travel down the forearm when lifting or bending your arm or when gripping small objects, such as a pen. Also you may notice the pain when twisting your forearm, such as opening a door handle or opening a jar - and you will also find it hard to fully extend your arm. In worse cases you may notice severe pain, swelling and bruising around the joint and trouble moving your elbow normally, using your arm or turning your arm from palm up to palm down and vice versa.
Tennis elbow can also sometimes occur after banging or knocking your elbow on a hard surface. Once the muscles in your forearm are strained, this results in tiny tears and inflammation developing near that bony lump (lateral epicondyle) on the outside of your elbow, and this is the cause of the pain.
Don’t be fooled by the name as it is not just a condition that affects those who play tennis. Tennis elbow affects people of all ages, but it is most common between 30-50. According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) it has been estimated that 50 per cent of all tennis players will suffer from tennis elbow during their careers and players over the age of 35 are particularly at risk. Venus Williams, Bjorn Borg, Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro have all suffered with the condition.
Strategies for treating tennis elbow include resting the area, icing the area to control swelling and stretching/exercising the forearm. Acupuncture and physical therapy, can also help reduce symptoms
and prevent tennis elbow from recurring. Cortisone injections into the tendon should be avoided. They can make the pain better for some time but also cause damage to the tendon, which in the long term can result in chronic pain. In some cases of acute inflammation they can be used, but this is a decision your specialist will help you make. An alternative is the use of Platelet rich plasma (PRP) . Your own platelets, rich in growth factors, are harvested from your blood and then injected locally in and around the affected tendon. PRP has been shown in some studies to relieve pain and speed up the healing and usually takes 30 minutes. Shockwave therapy is another non-invasive treatment, where high-energy shockwaves are passed through the skin to relieve pain and promote movement in the affected area. The evidence to support it is not great but it can help some people. If the symptoms persist despite treatment, surgery may be recommended. The damaged part of the tendon is removed and the remaining tendon repaired.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER TIPS TO HELP PREVENT DAMAGE AND PAIN WHEN PLAYING TENNIS
Keep the arms flexible and strong, and avoid repetitive movements. Try to keep the wrist in a neutral position when taking a tennis shot. Warm up before exercising or using your arms for repetitive movements by stretching. You may also want to use a lightweight tennis racquet, make sure the grip is the right size for you and the

string tension is not too high - speak to a professional sports coach to find out more information about the best racquet for you.
There are also simple treatments to help with the pain, like holding a cold compress, such as a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel, against your elbow. Tennis elbow braces can also help control the pain during activity. Your therapist or specialist can recommend the appropriate model and size.
Your GP may refer you to a physiotherapist if your tennis elbow is causing more severe or persistent pain. Physiotherapy in the form of stretching and eccentric loading exercises is the mainstay of conservative treatment. Massage and manipulation can help relieve pain and stiffness, and encourage blood flow to your arm. They may also recommend a brace, strapping, support bandage or splint to help in the short term.
Check with your GP first, but here are a few simple exercises that can help.
• Finger stretch - put a rubber band around your thumb and fingers, and cup your hand. Spread your thumb and fingers apart then back together. Repeat 3 x 3 sets, once or twice a day.
• Wrist stretch - Hold arm straight, hold the hand with the other hand. Bend your wrist down until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds, then relax. Repeat 3 sets, 3 times a day.
• Elbow curl - Place one foot in front of the other. Put the end of an exercise band under your back foot, and hold the other end. Pull the band up, and curl your arm toward your shoulder. Repeat 10 times x 3 sets alternating between palm up and palm down.

MCLAREN ARTURA:
THE ALL-NEW, NEXT-GENERATION, HIGH-PERFORMANCE HYBRID SUPERCAR
McLaren’s first series-production High-Performance Hybrid supercar focuses more than half a century of the company’s racing and road-car experience and expertise into a nextgeneration supercar that blends ground-breaking technology with McLaren’s dedication to pure driver engagement.
Underpinned by the McLaren philosophy of super-lightweight engineering, the all-new Artura is the distillation of every attribute inherent in a McLaren – distinctive design, unrivalled performance, dynamic excellence and engineering innovation – with electrification now bringing the additional benefits of even faster throttle response, lower emissions and being able to run in pure EV mode for emissions-free journeys of up to 31km.
All-new from the ground up, the Artura presented McLaren engineers and designers with new opportunities to innovate, chief among these being how to preserve McLaren’s super-lightweight engineering philosophy when adding hybrid powertrain elements including an E-motor and battery pack.
A demanding programme of weight reduction, encompassing every area of
the Artura from the chassis platform – this is the debut of the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) – through the uniquely compact HPH powertrain system to the weight of cabling used in the electrical systems (where a 10% reduction was achieved), resulted in the Artura having a lightest dry weight of 1,395kg. The total
weight of hybrid components – which include an 88kg battery pack and 15.4kg E-motor – is just 130kg, helping to deliver a DIN kerbweight of 1,498kg that gives the super-lightweight Artura a significant weight advantage over both hybrid and non-hybrid supercars.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 59 2023
At the heart of the Artura’s powertrain is McLaren’s all-new, 2,993cc twinturbocharged V6 petrol engine. With a power output of 585PS – nearly 200 PS per litre – and 585Nm of torque, the drysump aluminium engine is compact and lightweight; at just 160kg it weighs 50kg less than a McLaren V8 and is significantly shorter, enhancing packaging efficiency.
Designed to run with a Gasoline Particulate Filter to optimise emissions performance, the M630 engine is also extremely refined. The 120° v-angle of the engine, which allows the turbochargers to be positioned within the ‘hot vee’, delivers further advantages in packaging as well as contributing to a lower centre of gravity. The 120° layout increases engine performance by reducing the pressure losses through the exhaust system and allows for a stiffer crankshaft that enables a rev limit of 8,500rpm, maximising performance and driver engagement.
Working in harmony with the new V6 is the Artura’s compact axial flux E-motor, located within the transmission bell housing. Smaller and more power-dense than a conventional, radial flux E- motor, it is capable of generating 95PS and 225Nm and boasts a power density per kilo 33% greater than the system used in the McLaren P1™. The instantaneous nature of the motor’s torque delivery – known as ‘torque infill’ – is key to the car’s razor-sharp throttle response. Exhilarating ‘off-theline’ performance sees the Artura achieve 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in just 3.0 seconds, with 0-200km/h (0-124mph) taking 8.3 seconds and 0-300km/h (0-186mph) 21.5 seconds. Top speed is limited to 330km/h (205mph).
The dual propulsion systems are integrated via an engine disconnect clutch, driving an all-new, twin-clutch transmission, which has been developed specifically for the Artura. Despite having one more ratio than other McLaren transmissions – to optimise power and torque delivery – the
lightweight, short-ratio gear cluster is 40mm shorter in length. It also requires no reverse gear; the E-motor takes care of reversing by literally rotating in the opposite direction.
The E-motor is powered by a battery pack comprising five lithium-ion modules, offering a usable energy capacity of 7.4kWh and a pure EV range of 31km. The battery is refrigerant cooled using cooling rails, and the assembly – including a power distribution unit which transfers battery power from the rear of the vehicle to the ancillaries in the front – is mounted on a structural carbon fibre floor. This assembly is then bolted onto the rear base of the monocoque, optimising stiffness, weight distribution and crash protection.
The Artura is designed with full Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) capability and can be charged to an 80% charge level in just 2.5 hours with a standard EVSE cable. The batteries can also harvest power from the combustion engine during driving, tailored to the driving mode selected.

149 AUTOMOTIVE
“From the very beginning of the project, designing and engineering the Artura has been all about challenging ourselves to innovate, pushing and pushing to achieve everything we knew a next- generation, High-Performance Hybrid McLaren supercar had to be. As a result, the Artura is all-new; the carbon fibre monocoque, electrical architecture and the body and interior are new. So too is the V6 engine, the transmission – which also integrates a new type of electric motor for the industry – as is the rear suspension concept and our firstever electronic differential.”
Phil Mockford, Vehicle Line Director –Supercars, McLaren Automotive
The McLaren Artura is the first model to have the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) at its core. Designed and manufactured at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) in the Sheffield region, MCLA sets a new standard for McLaren’s advanced flexible chassis design. Optimised for high-performance hybrid applications, it includes a bespoke battery compartment and introduces a ground-breaking domainbased ethernet electrical architecture, along with an electrical heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (eHVAC) system.
The ethernet architecture reduces cabling by up to 25% and speeds up data transmission. This also facilitates access to advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Departure Warning, Auto High-Beam Assist* and Road-Sign Recognition as well as Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates.
The engineering artistry beneath the Artura’s skin is complemented by its exterior design. The low-nose, cab-forward, hightail stance is pure supercar, the drama underlined by the signature McLaren dihedral doors – which open closer to the body and house mirrors that fold in more tightly – and further enhanced by the short wheelbase and low stance.
The overall effect gives the Artura an almost ‘shrink-wrapped’ appearance, evolving a McLaren design approach seen in recent models to a new level. The lithe, technical sculpture has only minimal body shutlines and panel joints, assisted by features such as an entire rear clamshell engineered and superformed as one panel. The shape of the Artura, sculpted to optimise performance and manage airflow for aerodynamic performance and cooling, is driven by the McLaren design principle of ‘everything for

a reason’ that is in evidence throughout the car. The centre of the front splitter is an example of this, being the intake for the eHVAC system and also housing the front-mounted radar that forms part of the optional ADAS package.
Inside, the Artura is no less of a revolution, with the cockpit centred more than ever around the driver. The driving mode selection – which retains separate Powertrain and Handling controls – has been moved to the instrument binnacle,
which is in turn mounted to the steering column and adjusts with the steering wheel to further enhance driving ergonomics. Consequently, the steering wheel is kept clear of unnecessary switches, but the driver is still able to adjust driving modes without taking their hands away from the wheel.
The driver can choose from four Powertrain modes, including an E-mode for 31km (19 miles) of emissions-free, electriconly driving. Designed for mixed driving conditions, Comfort mode maximises range and efficiency, with the combustion engine shut off at lower speeds with the use of an extended stop and start mode but phased in for greater speed and power requirements. In Sport and Track modes, electric power is deployed in an increasingly aggressive manner for low-end response and acceleration (‘torque infill’). Separate handling mode choices adjust damper firmness and the degree of Electronic Stability Control intervention to suit driver preference and weather and road conditions.

From the outset McLaren designed the Artura to be not only a technological game-changer, but also to stay true to the core McLaren attributes of being incredibly engaging to drive and displaying the highest levels of dynamic ability. Designed to excel on both road and track, the Artura also boasts the dynamic refinement to make serene progress through urban streets in EV mode.
McLaren engineers focused on stability under braking; rear-end controllability; increased grip and optimised aerodynamic downforce – as well as enhanced driver engagement across the board. Key to hitting these goals is McLaren’s first-ever deployment of an electronically controlled differential (E-diff), to independently control torque moving across the rear axle. Lighter, more controllable and smaller than a mechanical locking differential (it fits within the transmission), the E-diff locks and unlocks individual rear wheels to improve traction out of corners.
The innovative rear suspension system, which pairs a top upper wishbone with two lower links and a tie rod in front of the wheel centre, maximises vehicle stability and precision and reduces understeer out of a corner while accelerating. The wide tyres allow additional stability and better traction performance while the combination of a short wheelbase, E-diff and the physical downforce provided by the integrated rear spoiler and diffuser ensure both incredible agility at low speed and a high level of stability at high speed. The E-diff in particular increases performance and driver confidence when cornering, enhancing traction and reducing levels of understeer.
Dynamic precision is additionally enhanced by Pirelli Cyber Tyre® technology. Comprising hardware and software integrated with the Artura’s electronic systems and featuring an electronic ‘chip’ inside each tyre, Pirelli Cyber Tyre® generates real-time data and relays it to the
car’s stability control systems to optimise tyre performance.
One feature that is unashamedly not new on the Artura is McLaren’s trademark hydraulically- assisted steering. Proven on generations of McLaren supercars, it remains the ultimate system for providing feedback. In the Artura the system has been fully redesigned to reduce weight and is combined with an updated and bespoke version of McLaren’s Proactive Damping Control system that further supports exceptional ride and handling characteristics.
Braking performance is also exceptional, thanks to the Artura being fitted with carbon ceramic brakes and lightweight aluminium calipers from the same family as the systems that feature in McLaren’s latest LT models. Together with the new rear axle kinematics, they deliver superior highspeed braking power and stability.

Driver and passenger comfort overall has been an imperative throughout the development of the Artura, with NVH refinement high on the agenda – as befits a supercar that will spend time running in near-silent Electric mode. Innovations that benefit refinement include the stiffness of the MCLA, fluid-filled mounts for the powertrain and the new rear suspension design and settings. Pirelli’s patented Noise Cancelling System (PNCS), which uses a sound absorbing device on the inside wall of the Pirelli P-ZERO™ tyre to reduce vibration and noise, also features.
The McLaren Artura also debuts an all-new Clubsport seat, which uniquely combines the range of motion expected of a moveable backrest with the light weight and support of a bucket seat. Innovative yet uncomplicated, the whole seat pivots as one through an elliptical arc when adjusted, combining under-thigh support, seat height and backrest in one movement. A Comfort seat option is also available.
The seat locates in an ergonomically optimised cockpit, its carbon fibre shell combining with slim facia and doors to
allow a 97.5th percentile (6ft 4in/193cm) driver to stretch out with generous kneeand leg-room, even with the backrest significantly reclined. Shoulder room is equally capacious, allowing a driver to get appropriately comfortable to enjoy the Artura’s performance and dynamic abilities.
An all-new McLaren infotainment and connectivity system (MIS II) utilises two high-definition screens. The interface is built on all-new software and bespoke hardware to deliver a smartphone level of responsiveness and is also capable of smartphone mirroring. MIS II capability includes updated versions of familiar McLaren apps including McLaren Track Telemetry and Variable Drift Control, and also features a redesigned navigation map in the instrument cluster which focuses on key information to minimise driver distraction. A stealth mode on the main binnacle hides non-essential content, reducing distractions and promoting full concentration on the road ahead.
MIS II also optionally enables a number of ADAS driver assistance features, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop/
Go; Lane-Departure Warning; High-Beam Assist* and Road- Sign Recognition. These and the infotainment features can all be enhanced using OTA update technology. The Artura also features a Bluetooth low-energy vehicle key which detects when the driver is heading towards the vehicle and powers up systems to welcome occupants. This includes ambient, ‘hidden-until-lit’ lighting in the doors, also acting as puddle lamps.
Befitting a car that is all-new and the distillation of more than half a century of McLaren’s expertise and experience in race- and road-car engineering, the Artura introduces a number of technologies for which McLaren has patents pending. These include filings for multiple elements of the MCLA; a patent relating to the use of the E-motor in lieu of a mechanical reverse gear to enable rearwards travel and also allow gearbox length to be reduced; and a patent that covers the innovative yet refreshingly easy to use lightweight adjustment mechanism of the all-new Clubsport seat.
The Artura is priced in its home UK market from £189,200 for the standard specification. There are three further interior specifications: Performance, which has a sporting, functional aesthetic; TechLux, where the focus is on the technical luxury that the name suggests; and Vision, which displays a more avant-garde and adventurous look and feel.

M like Maggiore, but also M like Magnum P.I., the iconic series tv where Tom Selleck shared the show with his amazing Ferrari 308, a car with a soul and with an unmistakable line which can survive through the ages.
The project is a genuine “tribute”, not in the sense of nostalgia but rather giving new life to cars that in time might have been relegated to museums or closed in the garages of collectors.
A modern reinterpretation of an iconic star of 80s, using the best technology and a deep attention to Heritage and Design.
The donor car is a real Ferrari 308 and the starting point are the original chassis and the original engine, but then all the parts have been completely re-Designed and re-built to guarantee reliability and performance of these days with a vintage allure.
The Engine has been rebuilt by Italtecnica, a well-known Italian company specialized in racing and special projects.
The body is completely realized in carbon fiber to reduce the weight, all the mechanical components have been upgraded or re-Designed and the interiors have been refreshed with high end materials, such as leather, carbon fiber and marble, a touch of our roots and a sign of our customization program.
The research into the materials and colours to use was carried out by the Studio Stefan Scholten, a Design studio based in Amsterdam with many Italian influences. It was precisely this union of modern Northern European design commingling with Italian culture and Mediterranean styles that inspired us to choose this studio as partner for the development of this project.
There will not exist 2 cars with the same specs!
The internal components of the engine are all new, the suspensions are made of lightweight aluminum alloy, a new Brembo brake system and bigger alloy wheels.

Already a well-known artisan in carpentry he created a company devoted to the art of gunmaking and started working in his garage. For years he travelled around and worked side by the side with some of the finest craftsmen in the region of Brescia and Val Trompia, known for its long tradition in gunmaking. As he learned from the best, ideas of his own started to take shape, so he founded VO Vapen.
