A DUO OF AWARDS FOR THE CONTINENTAL GT IN TWO MAJOR EUROPEAN MARKETS

Bentley’s sector-defining Continental GT has started 2024 by attaining two significant awards, as Best Car in two major European markets. The definitive Grand Tourer has been elected by the readers in Germany and in Switzerland.

In Germany, the class-leading Bentley Continental GT has won the ‘Best Cars’ title at the Auto Motor und Sport awards for a third consecutive year. More than 92,000 readers took part in the 48th annual poll, choosing from a record 455 cars in 13 categories. Despite strong competition, Bentley’s definitive Grand Tourer was selected winner

of the prestigious luxury import category.

In Switzerland, the Continental GT received the title of ‘Best Car’ in the luxury class, elected by the readers of Auto Illustrierte for the first time ever. Readers took part in the election, choosing from 422 cars in 13 categories.

The exquisitely-crafted Continental GT created the modern, luxury Grand Tourer segment when it was first launched in 2003. Now in its third generation, the Continental GT offers a unique blend of unparalleled touring ability and driver-focussed technologies, features that again impressed the readers.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
10 AUTOMOTIVE THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

These awards are a fitting finale for the last, combustion-engined Continental GT models offered in Europe. Last November, Bentley Motors announced that order books for V8 versions of the

Continental GT and GTC had closed in the European region, although they remain available in other markets. The move is in line with the company’s ground-breaking Beyond100 strategy that will see

every Bentley model offered with the option of a hybrid variant by 2025. Production of Bentley’s iconic W12 engine will also end in 2024, with more than 100,000 units handbuilt in Crewe.

Balazs Rooz, Regional Director of Bentley Motors Europe, said:

“We are extremely honoured to win the Auto Motor und Sport award for a third consecutive year and for the first time an award with Auto Illustrierte. It is especially pleasing given that the Continental GT was chosen ‘Best Car’ in a competitive basket by magazine readers themselves. It is a great recognition of all the work done by the different teams back in Crewe for the Continental GT especially popular as a Grand Tourer in Europe.”

“ART OF CREATING MYTHS”:

AUTOMOBILI LAMBORGHINI AND DUCATI JOIN TO CELEBRATE THE ART OF PAOLO TROILO

An event at Galleria Cavour in Bologna presenting the two models on which the artist created his works.

Automobili Lamborghini and Ducati joined forces to celebrate art through the vision of artist Paolo Troilo, who has put his creativity at the service of the two brands by transforming two iconic models into works of art. The venue for the exhibition “Art of creating myths” - an event held within the context of Arte Fiera Bologna- is Galleria Cavour in the center of Bologna, where the artist’s two creations were unveiled. On one

side, a Lamborghini Huracan EVO, which became the canvas for the work titled “Minotauro”, and on the other, a Ducati Streetfighter V4 Lamborghini for the work “Centauro”, both vehicles owned by the same client who wanted to combine art and motors in a perfect synthesis.

Paolo Troilo (born in 1972 in Taranto) is renowned for his unique hyper-realist fingerpainting technique, and this is precisely how the two models were created. “Minotauro”, painted on the bodywork of a Huracan EVO, symbolizes the sublimation between the artist’s vision and

the iconic value of a brand like Automobili Lamborghini whose cars, prized by customers for their design, performance and quality, become true one-offs, on a par with works of art. Through the vigorous features of a male body reproduced by the hand of Paolo Troilo using his fingertips, the paintings express

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

the dynamism, power, and the innermost emotions the artist felt when driving the Huracan EVO. His tribute to the vehicle lies in the fusion of the “man”, the “bull” (the symbol of Automobili Lamborghini) and the concept of “myth” expressed in the indomitablesupernatural and almost animalistic - force exuded by the male figure painted on the sides of the car.

The presentation took place at Galleria Cavour, an emblem of luxury and exclusivity in the heart of Bologna. The CEOs of Automobili Lamborghini and Ducati, Stephan Winkelmann and Claudio Domenicali, unveiled the two models painted by Troilo in the presence of 200 attendees. For the occasion, the two CEOs reaffirmed the bond between their respective brands that represent globally recognized excellence, each in its own segment, a symbol of Made in Italy cachet and Motor Valley prestige. It’s an excellence that, combined with the hand of Paolo Trolio, connects art with the automotive world, proving that the two can coexist in a perfect union.

“Minotauro” and “Centauro” will be on display as part of ART CITY Bologna until 5 February at Galleria Cavour, with free admission, providing an opportunity for art and motor enthusiasts to appreciate two worlds that have never been so close before.

FERRETTI YACHTS EXTENDS THE BRAND’S INFYNITO RANGE WITH INFYNITO 80

Sustainability criteria, more covered exterior surface area and continuity between interiors and exteriors are the key features of the second project in the range, showcased at Boot Düsseldorf.

The INFYNITO range is for people who love the sea without limits or boundaries, as expressed by the “Further than you can Sea” concept.

Making her debut at Boot Düsseldorf, INFYNITO 80 joins the brand’s hugely successful INFYNITO 90 and builds on the range’s typical characteristics: environmental friendliness, unprecedented flexibility and innovative layouts, as magnificently embodied in the iconic All-Season Terrace. Other

strengths include the yacht’s versatility, with a sundeck that can be open or semi-closed, and the sheer size, above average for the segment, of the exterior surface area covered and protected by the hard top or superstructure.

Built at the Marina di Ravenna shipyard, Ferretti Yachts’ INFYNITO 80 is the result of collaboration between the Strategic Product Committee chaired by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering

Department, with exterior design by Filippo Salvetti and interiors by design firm Ideaeitalia.

With an overall length of 23.70 metres (77ft 9in) and a maximum beam of 6.36 metres (20ft 10in), INFYNITO 80 is designed to offer lovers of the sea a new and gratifying experience in highly customisable spaces where interiors and exteriors blend into one another.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
18 YACHTS & YACHTING THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

“After INFYNITO 90, we developed the range’s second model with the aim of retaining some of this design’s unique and inimitable characteristics, while also adding new features tailored for a project of a different size,” explained designer Filippo Salvetti. “We’re proud to present INFYNITO 80, a solution with above-average covered exterior space, enabling owners to enjoy the yacht in all seasons and weather conditions but without sacrificing direct contact with the sea, the surrounding environment or the sun.”

INFYNITO 80 also features the Group’s F.S.E.A. technology (Ferretti Sustainable Enhanced Architecture), a package of environmentally friendly cruising solutions. They include an integrated system that stores the solar energy collected by the photovoltaic panels installed on the hard top in an Energy Bank, which consists of 14 high-density lithium batteries that deliver more energy at the same time as guaranteeing a favourable weight-power ratio. The battery pack is in the engine room, in watertight steel containers fitted with temperature monitoring sensors. There was also a special focus on the use of green materials, such as natural and bamboo fabrics, regenerated leather and recyclable materials, ecological water-based paints and lamellar teak with FSC 5 certification, used throughout the exteriors.

An overview of the various decks highlights the main deck astern, with a generous 18 square metres dedicated to a beach area that features a sea-view couch incorporating a generous storage

unit. There is also a stern platform with a linear lift for launching and hauling up the tender. The 19 m² cockpit has a living area with free-standing furniture for greater flexibility in terms of layout and use. In the 29 m² interior saloon, the dining room (available in the standard version) can be replaced by a show kitchen with a bar counter and stools. The yacht’s main galley is at the forward end of the main deck, with an electrically operated sliding glass door providing direct access to the All-Season Terrace. The hallmark of the range is its iconic covered terrace, sheltered by an extension to the superstructure for protection in all weather conditions and total privacy. On INFYNITO 80, the 13 m² terrace can be configured as a dinette, with seating and an extending table, or as a bar counter.

19 YACHTS & YACHTING

The raised helm station provides excellent visibility and is accessed by a staircase in the centre of the main deck.

The upper deck, which is closed on INFYNITO 90, is replaced on INFYNITO 80 by a totally open sundeck in the standard version, and a semi-closed one with glass panels as an option. The hard top provides shade for the entire dining area and foredeck. The stern section of the upper deck is a sunbathing area with free-standing furniture and an outdoor galley.

The 43 m2 lower deck has a master suite – in the midship section of the boat and fitted with plenty of

storage space – a VIP cabin and two guest cabins. The crew quarters contain two cabins sleeping a total of three people.

“INFYNITO 80’s interior design builds on the sustainability solutions adopted for INFYNITO 90, which are the key plus point of this range. From lamellar teak and eco-friendly paints to regenerated leather and other recyclable materials, everything is designed to offer a yachting experience that fully respects the environment,” commented Davide Bernardini and Alessio Battistini of Ideaeitalia. “Not to mention the iconic Ferretti Yachts moods: Classic, which taps into earthy elements, and

Contemporary, featuring glowing woods and fabrics in fresh hues inspired by the colours of the sea. Both moods create a sophisticated aesthetic in functional and efficient spaces designed for owners who increasingly see their yacht as a new place to live in, as if it were an extension of their home”.

INFYNITO 80 can be fitted with a pair of MAN V12 engines rated up to 1400 mHP (in the optional version), driving the yacht to a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots (preliminary data). And with the new high-efficiency hull, the yacht has a range of 1000 nm at an economy cruising speed of 12 kt.

IT’S ALL AROUND YOU

Welcome to Tiaré, a luxurious yet traditional Indonesian Phinisi that will take you on a journey of discovery to some of the most stunning diving spots in the world.

The Tiaré began as the dream of 5 cousins, discussed over a summer dinner party.

This dream to create a luxurious dive boat built by the master builders of South Sulawesi came together with careful design, the sturdiest and most beautiful materials sourced from sustainable sources, high-tech components and safety equipment… and of course, time.

Experience diving in the rich waters of the Indonesian archipelago and meet people from the many different cultures on the diverse Indonesian islands that you would never have the opportunity to see while staying in more tourist-heavy areas.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON BOARD TIARÉ

Tiaré offers a spectacular experience for divers as well as non-divers, with bright airy cabins, spacious bathrooms and a large front deck where you can socialize, eat under the stars or just relax in the Indonesian sunshine. There is also a separate diving deck with hot water showers to warm up after a night dive.

All indoor and outdoor living areas, decks, and cabins are made with antique teak salvaged from old Joglos, which not only gives the feel of “real Indonesia”, but has helped to reduce the use of Indonesia’s disappearing rainforests.

LIVING AREA

Designed to be a space where you

feel totally at home with an extra touch of luxury, comfortable couches and tables are the perfect place to socialize and catch up with your fellow divers. If you need to rest, have a nap, read a book or watch a film. A bar stocked with imported wines and a selection of other drinks is a welcome treat after a day of diving and a small cigar store is available for cigar connoisseurs. As well as comfortable couches, the airconditioned indoor lounge also has tables where dinner can be served as an alternative to the main deck depending on weather conditions and your preference. There are also PCs where you can edit photos or videos and also an indoor camera room, which has plenty of room to store your lenses, charges, lights and even your spare cameras.

Bow lounge

friendly body wash and shampoo.

Two triple cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two adults and one child or three adults, with under-bed storage to ensure ease of movement around the cabin. The other four cabins, two twin and two double, accommodate two adults each for a maximum capacity of 14 guests.

In addition to the indoor living area, the outdoor bow lounge is a space to enjoy and experience the freedom of being at sea. Watch the crew at work, birds flying overhead or count the millions of stars in the clear night sky from comfortable loungers and couches.

With 14 guests on board Tiaré is comfortable and spacious enough for both a social atmosphere and space to relax and enjoy down time in the luxurious cabins.

A SPECTACULAR EXPERIENCE OF PERFORMANCE, DESIGN AND SPORTINESS: INTRODUCING PERSHING GTX80, THE SECOND MODEL IN THE GTX RANGE

The Pershing GTX80 is synonymous with fun, total control and unchallenged supremacy.

Characterised by beautifully seamless connections between the internal and external spaces, this new GTX80 design follows in the wake of the GTX range’s flagship, launched in spring 2023, and reprises the philosophy that inspired this new generation of sports boats, that of raising onboard comfort and liveability to new levels, along with the excellent performance and extreme sportiness encoded in Pershing’s DNA.

The splendid result of collaboration between the Ferretti Group Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the design firm headed by Vallicelli Design, and the Group’s Engineering Department, the hull was built at the Ferretti Group Plug and Mould facility, bringing together advanced technologies and Pershing’s signature craftsmanship.

At around 24 metres long and 5.80 metres in the beam, this new design in the GTX range is characterised

by generous open spaces, areas in direct contact with the sea, maximum on-board liveability and excellent performance. The yacht has two decks and a sportbridge and can comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests thanks to the new four-cabin layout. There is also a cabin with two beds for the crew. Pershing GTX80 is a masterpiece of balance and architectural harmony in which design meets technology to elevate and transform a sporty motor yacht into a work of avantgarde nautical art.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
28 YACHTS & YACHTING THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

EXTERIOR DESIGN AND MAIN FEATURES

Pershing GTX80 is the result of an in-depth study of proportions in which the external lines show an impressively refined volumetric equilibrium between superstructure and hull, giving the model an architectural harmony that is new for sports motor yachts of this size.

The exterior lines in this new design are characterised by the Pershing brand’s signature stylistic elements and innovative choices. One example of this combination is the profile of the hull, which has a near vertical bow and a continuous, slightly convex sheer-line.

In another striking feature, the bulwarks in the bow section have been lightened by a longitudinal slot, while those in the stern have a dual function, both incorporating the winches and converting into lateral terraces that swing down to provide even more contact with the water. The stern platform has three different positions, making it an extremely important feature of the boat. It can be left in the default position, or raised using the dual linear lift function so that it extends and integrates the aft living area, together with the lateral terraces when open. It can also be used to launch the tenders.

The sundeck is very spacious – at 23 m2 it’s 60% larger than the category average – but at the same time guarantees internal space of gran turismo proportions. This effect is partly due to the sleekly dynamic arch-shaped deckhouse and the carbon fabric hard-top – the real novelty of this model and an optional – which offers the perfect way to lighten up the superstructure, guaranteeing maximum performance and maintaining a chromatically uniform finish.

INTERIOR DESIGN AND LAYOUT

The interior design reflects Pershing’s cruising style and approach to life on board, both extremely dynamic. The new Pershing GTX80 brings owner and guests even closer to the sea, not least thanks to the layout of the main deck saloon, where the configuration of the exterior glazing – which extends below the lateral walkways – ensures seamless visual contact with the water, even when sitting on the sofas.

Still on the main deck, the generous interior volumes are obtained with a partially full-beam saloon, offering better liveability and an innovative approach to the decor, designed for conviviality and informal use.

Another new development in this area is the innovative layout of the open galley-bar, which is fully integrated into the lounge setting and opens out onto the cockpit, acting as the main hub connecting and enhancing the painstaking interior design work on the main deck.

ISSUE 63 2024 THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024 THE ART OF LUXURY
29 YACHTS & YACHTING

Sculptural architecture is a feature of all Pershing GTX80’s interiors, showcasing seamless interconnection between the lounge and the cockpit, which is also illuminated by lighting integrated in the ceiling. The division of the lacquered ceiling panels with metallic silver paint creates an interplay of intersecting diagonal LED lights, ensuring uniform light diffusion across the entire deck – from exterior to interior – with a pared-down design that focuses on multiple angles.

The highly customised interior decoration is epitomised by the master cabin, which is clad from top to bottom in cloud-effect sky blue leather panelling, applied with different spacings and widths, in the ultimate expression of the style concept underpinning this new project.

The colour pairings have been chosen to point up contrasts, with the leather sofas in pale but warm colour tones combined with colder steel-effect metallic lacquer, just as the sky blue leather in the cabins is juxtaposed with the warmer feel of the theme wood. All the bathroom

areas have metallic lacquered panels on the walls and feature sculptural furniture in a sky blue similar to the leather in the cabins. The spacious, comfortable cabins guarantee maximum privacy for guests with respect to the crew quarters, which are accessed from the outdoor cockpit area through a door under the staircase leading up to the flybridge, hiding it from view.

In perfect Pershing style, this new project speaks the language of technology, not only in terms of the engineering, but also as a stylistic hallmark enhanced by the materials chosen for this extremely comfortable environment. The various settings use materials featuring tones that are evocative of steel, water and electricity. Each material is also powerfully threedimensional: from metallic lacquers to sky blue leather, all the surfaces are enhanced by finishings that are never repetitive and colour tones that often change depending on the point of view.

The raised helm station in the bow has 360-degree visibility, thanks in part to the huge windshield with no central pillar and the extensive use of continuous glazing. A sunroof above the windshield can be opened for natural ventilation.

PROPULSION AND TECHNOLOGY

Pershing GTX80 is a planing boat equipped with three 1,000 mhp VOLVO PENTA D13 IPS1350 engines that reaches a top speed of 34 knots (preliminary data) and a cruising speed of 28 knots. The yacht will have CE Class A certification, the safest for boats under 24 m.

ANDBEYOND GALAPAGOS EXPLORER

Conservation-led luxury travel company andBeyond has announced the extension of its South America portfolio with the launch of an expedition yacht in the Galapagos Islands.

Named the andBeyond Galapagos Explorer, the 38 m (124 ft) yacht will operate on two 7-night routes in the east and west of the famed Galapagos Islands. Boasting just six suites and cabins, the yacht will cater for a maximum of 12 guests, with two expert guides present on each departure.

“A uniquely biodiverse environment with the highest number of endemic species in the world, the Galapagos is a natural choice for the further expansion of our portfolio in South America. We are absolutely thrilled to finally have the opportunity to bring our brand of responsible tourism to this precious part of the world, which the Ecuadorian government has protected from over-tourism by strictly limiting the number of

operating licences issued,” says andBeyond Executive Chairman & CEO, Joss Kent.

“We have long believed that the best way to encourage our guests to help protect the world’s wild places is for our skilled guides to help travellers not only fall in love with those places, but also to gain an understanding of the threats that they are facing. This is what we are aiming to do through the introduction of our luxury yacht, where two knowledgeable guides will host just twelve guests, showcasing the wonder and mystery of this exceptional destination.”

With only 12 guests on board, the elevated guest-to-staff ratio makes the Galapagos Explorer the most exclusive yacht operating in the islands. In addition to the highest level of guiding, the vessel will also offer beautifully appointed spacious indoor and outdoor guest areas, as well as four exquisite cabins and two luxury suites. Currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment of its interiors, the andBeyond Galapagos Explorer will set sail on its first departure on 17 June 2024.

Situated on the equator, the Galapagos consists of 18 main islands, three smaller islands, and 107 rocks and islets. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1878, the islands are home to a remarkable variety of flora and fauna, with many species found nowhere else on earth. Notable species include the Galapagos giant tortoise, marine iguana, and blue-footed booby. The islands also feature unique geographical features, and each has created a distinct ecosystem of its own, with strict conservation measures in place to preserve the delicate balance. The Charles Darwin Research Centre, located on Santa Cruz Island, focuses on conservation efforts and conducts scientific research to protect the rare biodiversity of the islands.

Operating on two different 7-night itineraries, the andBeyond Galapagos Explorer will offer the choice of discovering the east or the west of the main cluster of islands, while including the highlights of the destination in both. Highlights of the eastern itinerary include the magnificent formation of Kicker Rock, located just off San Cristóbal Island, as well as sightings of the critically endangered waved albatross in Gardner Bay on Española Island. The western Itinerary features highlights that include exploring the geographical centre of the Galapagos Islands, Sombrero Chino Island as well as close encounters with the rare Santa Fe land iguana on Santa Fe Island.

Both itineraries present plenty of opportunities for land and sea adventures such as snorkelling, hiking and birdwatching, as well as a plethora of unique and interesting land, air and marine species. Rates for both itineraries begin from USD 10 950 per person sharing per 7-night cruise.

In keeping with its stated mission to leave our world a better place, andBeyond will apply its ethos of Care of Land, People and Wildlife to its new base of operations. The company plans to extend its Oceans Without Border initiative into the area and hopes to be able to review and implement projects that

support the Galapagos’ incredible land and wildlife. Furthermore, in line with its dedication to community development, it also aims to train and upskill local residents, as well as to highlight local procurement opportunities.

CHÂTEAU BRACHET YOUR STATELY HOME

Just a few minutes from France’s largest natural lake lies Château Brachet and its gourmet restaurant. Majestically overlooking the Aix-les-Bains area between lakes and mountains, this boutique hotel emerges like a timeless jewel.

Steeped in the rich and unique history of the region, the château was once the home of a prominent 19thcentury doctor, Dr Léon Brachet, also known as “the doctor of kings”. An emblematic figure of Aix-les-Bains, he left an indelible legacy in the field of medicine. His dedication to the spa development of the town attracted many of Europe’s most distinguished personalities, who often found refuge between the warm walls of the Château. Today, every room at Château Brachet tells a story, capturing the essence of the guests who have walked its grounds.

After long years of slumber, Château Brachet has now been restored to its former splendor thanks to the passionate investment of JeanMichel Belin, who decided to breathe

new life into the property after falling in love with it in 2008 with his wife. His bold vision has given birth to a calm, modern place where classic elegance meets contemporary comfort.

It took ten years of patient and meticulous work before the château opened its doors to the public, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.

Nestled in 6 hectares of landscaped park, Château Brachet offers 15 rooms and suites, all meticulously decorated and themed in unique and subtle ways with the help of 3 enthusiastic history students. As well as being modern and varied, the rooms offer a complete immersion into the lives of famous personalities, thanks to the many objects and old books on display. From trinkets to engravings and letters dating back to the 19th century, your stay will take you on a journey through time, from

the imperial grandeur of Elisabeth of Austria (Sissi) to the intellectual elegance of the Coquelin brothers, and every corner of the château will be transformed into a tribute to a bygone era, preserving the charm and authenticity of centuries gone by.

Next to its splendid interior, Château Brachet appears as a true haven of peace where time seems to stand still, even outdoors. Indeed, its large 18-metre swimming pool nestling in the heart of its lush gardens, its solarium, cigar lounge, vegetable garden and its state-of-the-art sport facilities offer the perfect balance between relaxation and physical activity. From tennis to padel, volleyball, badminton, croquet and petanque courts, every moment at the Château Brachet grounds is an exciting adventure for amateurs and professionals alike.

The owners have also decided to give the Château its own gourmet restaurant, open to all. In the dining room, under the glass roof, in the lounge area or on the terrace, come and discover the cuisine of renowned chef Bertrand Jeanson, who spent many years in French Polynesia, and oversaw the opening of restaurant “Les Mutinés by Guy Martin” at the highly prestigious resort hotel The Brando. Now having settled at Château Brachet, he pays particular attention to choosing quality seasonal produce, so that he and his brigade can create tasty, meticulously prepared dishes.

2024 sees the launch of two new cottages, the opening of Walled Garden Restaurant and further improvements and additions to The Lucknam Park Spa.

One of the UK’s most beloved country house hotels, Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, is delighted to announce a series of transformations and new guest offerings launching in Spring 2024, marking an exciting era for the hotel and further establishing the Relais & Châteaux property as a pioneer of British hospitality.

LAUNCH OF WALLED GARDEN RESTAURANT

Elevating Lucknam Park’s culinary offerings to further heights, the hotel’s Brasserie is being restyled and refurbished into a beautiful new restaurant called Walled Garden Restaurant. Arriving in April 2024, the new restaurant will possess all the romance and serenity of an English country garden and offer a seasonal dining experience where local produce, such as spring lamb reared on the estate’s grounds, and ingredients supplied by the hotel’s kitchen garden take centre stage against the backdrop of flowering gardens. Head Chef Alex Greene is the mastermind behind the new concept which takes the form of a sociable sharing plate experience during the day featuring dishes such as free-range pork chop accompanied with crab apple verjus, spring greens and roasted turnip; apple and lavender honey glazed duck breast featuring a tangy green rhubarb chutney; and confit duck with roast chicory and hazelnut salad, before transforming into an elegant evening a la carte experience where menu highlights include flat iron steak served with béarnaise sauce and skinny fries or

a spring vegetable quiche complete with a seasonal walled garden salad. Walled Garden Restaurant will perfectly complement the Michelinstarred offering at Restaurant Hywel Jones, providing guests with a week-round, all-day dining destination.

INTRODUCTION OF APPLE TREE & PEAR TREE COTTAGES

To add to the hotel’s already wellestablished cottage offering, which includes seven properties ranging from the cosy one-bedroom Gate House to the sprawling fourbedroom Squire’s Cottage, Lucknam Park is delighted to introduce Apple Tree and Pear Tree this spring. The charming stone-built cottages will feature two bedrooms, ensuring they are perfectly positioned to host families and groups of friends for a getaway during any season. The log-burning fireplaces and charming soft furnishings will warm up a crisp winter’s day, whilst the spacious private gardens, complete with outdoor furniture, are set to be a hit during the English summertime. The cottages offer the chance to enjoy the privacy and space of a home, combined with outstanding hotel service and facilities.

FURTHER ELEVATION OF THE SPA AT LUCKNAM PARK

Lucknam Park is committed to constant innovation and strives to offer the finest experiences for guests. Thanks to this ethos, the hotel’s world-class spa facilities continue to be enhanced to cater to their ever-changing needs and further establish it as one of the UK’s most exclusive wellness destinations. An experiential shower experience and infrared sauna will launch in Q1 2024. Enclosed by charming walled gardens and manicured lawns, The Spa at Lucknam Park is complete with an indoor/outdoor

hydrotherapy pool and boasts exclusive partnerships with 111SKIN, Hydrafacial and KLORIS.

This year, guests of all levels of expertise will be able to experience the brandnew, state-of-the-art Outdoor School. The space has been redesigned by the highly acclaimed Andrews Bowen and now features a cushioned classic wax surface to offer support, stability and durability. Reach for the Mountains: SkyAlps’ propeller plane flies much lower than regular jets, never exceeding 25,000 feet. This means that the passengers can experience the Dolomites from a perspective rarely seen. Flying at a lower altitude can help with tiredness upon touch down. Moreover, it results in less emissions and thus a reduced climate impact.

Local Delicacies: Travellers can relax and enjoy a premium experience aboard the about 2 hours flight with a wine menu in hand, comprised of South Tyrolean wines, all complimentary. SkyAlps have handpicked 48 producers of wine to feature in their rotating menus, including four awarded quality wines every month. The in-flight complimentary snacks are also local delicacies with Italian

flare, including full-fat yoghurt and fennel-flavoured Schüttelbrot, a regional bread.

Lesser-Known Bolzano: A city in the northernmost region in Italy and one of the lesser-known destinations – Bolzano offers valleys, culture, vineyards and delicious cuisine. The new Gatwick route allows travellers to enjoy warmer temperatures in spring.

Winter: SkyAlps operates twiceweekly flights from London Stansted – Bolzano until 14 April, starting from €184 each way. Children under two years old travel free of charge.

Five-star property Le Méridien Ile Maurice has launched two new restaurant concepts, Jade and WAVES.

Elevated Pan-Asian cuisine takes centre stage at Jade – a fine-dining destination restaurant in the heart of the resort with 70 covers. Formerly Paparazzi, the restaurant features an elegant design, informed by its precious gemstone namesake. Signature dishes include octopus curry, Singapore chilli prawns and pad thai. Teppanyaki displays as well as a variety of yakitori skewers are also available at live demonstration stations, alongside saké pairings.

His previous experience also includes stints as Chef de Cuisine at the Hilton Labriz Resort and Spa in the Seychelles and at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in Dubai.

Head Chef Tetarie Nitish is at the helm at WAVES, an 80-cover beachside brasserie which previously housed Zoli Mamzel. Nitish brings 20 years of experience to the team, having spent eight years as a Head Chef across several restaurants at Le Méridien Ile Maurice since

Signature dishes include grilled lobster with fresh turmeric and coconut paste, red tuna carpaccio and Mauritius-style ceviche featuring palm hearts, mango and octopus.

Jade and WAVES join the other restaurants at Le Méridien Ile Maurice, as well as those at JW Marriott Mauritius Resort and The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa, Mauritius in forming a new ‘Destination Dining’ proposition, where guests staying at any of the three hotels can also have access to all 14 of the properties’ dining destinations; the largest and most extensive restaurant offering in the Indian Ocean.

“You’ll find pieces in the collection that are versatile and comfortable. These are the kind of pieces that reflect my own lifestyle - always ready for the next adventure, but never compromising on style. There’s also an anti-crease feature, which means you can be on the move without worrying about wrinkles, and an anti-stress design in the fabric as well.” said Campbell.

“It’s always an honor to work with Naomi. She was very much involved and passionately invested in this project from the get-go. Of course, it was her idea to create a travelthemed collection, drawing on her own experiences, personal tastes, and preferences. She knows what she wants and shared meaningful creative input throughout the development process, mixing the BOSS fashion codes with her own iconic style. We had a lot of fun collaborating, working outside our comfort zones, and leaning on one another for insight with specific design challenges as we brought her unique vision to life through the BOSS lens,” said Marco Falcioni, SVP of Creative Direction at HUGO BOSS.

BRUNELLO CUCINELLI LAUNCHES NEW AW24 WOMENSWEAR COLLECTION IN MILAN

Brunello Cucinelli rediscover the charm of a conscious simplicity and a newfound naturalness for Autumn Winter 2024.

Concentration and refinement are at the heart of each creation and combination, aimed at expressing a sense of ordered and casual completeness.

The codes of the formal and sartorial world, guardians of a timeless luxury and elegance, take on a familiar feel, revealing themselves in a harmonious and welcoming genuineness. The new synthesis, at once discreet

and perceptible, is at the service of a spontaneous recognition of the ante litteram identity of each element, the quality of the materials and the high level of craftsmanship. Memory and tradition are inseparable from the search for innovation and uniqueness to create an updated feminine taste. The design, based on texture, proportions and essential colours, selects a few distinctive elements to define an authentic yet natural elegance.

A masculine taste is the logical recollection of tailored fabrics, balanced by a relaxed, soft and enveloping attitude, diffused by

brushed surfaces, cables, corduroy and aspects that combine the sophisticated urban world with the natural appearance of open landscapes.

Double, bonded and padded are key manufacturing techniques that alter the behaviour of classic fabrics and natural-looking nappa leathers and suedes, giving them a fresh appeal. The combination of traditional materials and innovative effects lends a contemporary spirit to long formal coats, wide shoulders, dense or grainy woollens, skirts with a composed fluidity, retro textures and no-fade denim. In-depth research into the

quality of the shades deepens the endearing sense of enduring colours, with a special privilege given to the timeless shades of grey. Black breaks away from its classic rigidity to take on a cosy, threedimensional nature, becoming a coherent expression of the brand’s character in the interpretation of the most special garments and in the creation of graphic effects in combination with beige.

There is no shortage of autumnal and woody browns, alternating with very light and enveloping panamas and warm whites, or warmer cream and butter tones. Old Sheffield Plate-style lamés, satins, tassels and couture fabrics add lustre to special occasions.

The collection’s knitwear is the result of experimentation, reworking the weights and characters of traditional garments with new inlays and refined overlapping effects. The masculine character of Argyle motifs is reinterpreted in terms of proportions and finishes to give life to new, three-dimensional and feminine dimensions. The dense and compact nature of double knits is balanced by a tendency towards transparency, evoking a delicate interplay of veiling and layering

that imbues the patterns with an understated allure.

OPERA knits and Couture Knitwear reimagine floral motifs, Irish cables and classic ribs in a sophisticated blend of techniques that alternate masterful handwork with precious embroidery.

Skirts are important in new trends, competing with trousers in combinations with oversized coats, bomber jackets and masculine sweaters and shirts. A new emphasis on femininity is dynamically renewed in style and form, exploring different volumes and lengths with a focus on the sophisticated yet effortless aesthetic of circle and A-line skirts.

Aligning a sartorial character with a chic and effortless attitude, trousers favor soft, relaxed volumes, enhanced by tactile surfaces in dense wools or fluid surfaces in satins, ultra-lightweight velvets and soft flannels. Iconic denim, in its no-fade version, takes on a refined aesthetic for the day, while in a tuxedo version becomes glamorous for the evening.

Matching sets take on a fresh appeal thanks to new materials: knits, denim and soft leathers reformulate the search for order with a dynamic

touch. Coats, overshirts, tops, and shirts contribute to broadening the offering of matching sets from a contemporary standpoint, accompanied by combinations featuring blazers with a strong identity that further enhance the look, even when paired with different materials.

As well as shimmering effects, glossy satins, sequined embroidery and feathers that evoke a sense of lightness, eveningwear has a sense of understated, sophisticated glamour based on chic silhouettes, charming mohair tuxedos and the iconic nuances of no-fade denim.

Sartorial values are interpreted through bonded woollen fabrics, shaped into contemporary designs and framed by graphic borders. The belt motif, reminiscent of the college world, runs through timeless everyday bags and harmonises with new derby shoes and penny loafers. The tactility of shearling and knitwear adds a feminine touch to the surfaces and details of ballerinas and accessories, creating a cosy winter vibe. For eveningwear and the finest accessories, exclusive jewelled embellishments add sparkle to the fabrics, created through precious handloom techniques.

ELEVATE YOUR EVERYDAY: BREITLING X VICTORIA BECKHAM

The fashion icon lends her signature style to the limitededition Chronomat 36 Victoria Beckham collection.

When Victoria Beckham launched her eponymous clothing line in 2008, fashion’s biggest players waited with bated breath to see her catwalk debut.

More than 15 years later, Beckham’s designs are Fashion Week fixtures, coveted for their sleek sophistication and playful blend of feminine and masculine tailoring.

Now, Breitling introduces a new line of timepieces co-designed with Victoria Beckham. The Chronomat Automatic 36 Victoria Beckham collection, limited to just 1,500

pieces, is the result of a one-ofa-kind collaboration between the luxury watchmaker and the celebrated fashion house creative director.

“The Chronomat is already a versatile watch with a classic form,” commented Breitling CEO Georges Kern on the partnership. “With Victoria Beckham’s signature style, this collection is a modern, radiant expression of that timepiece.”

Beckham, in turn, expressed her admiration for Breitling’s creative process: “It has been wonderful

watching Breitling’s craftsmanship and innovation come together with my ideas to create something so elegant and fresh.”

FASHION MEETS FUNCTION

The Chronomat is Breitling’s chic, all-purpose timepiece and a particular favorite of women who want the best of both worlds: fashion and function.

68 JEWELLERY & WATCHES THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

The Victoria Beckham collection retains classic Chronomat features like the metal rouleaux bracelet and raised rider tabs at the 15-minute mark. These are combined with refined new colorways inspired by Beckham’s own Spring/Summer 2024 palette, including peppermint, midnight blue, dove gray, and sand.

The collection features both the Breitling logo on the dial and Victoria Beckham’s initials on the seconds hand, with a choice of cases in stainless steel or yellow gold – a material specially revived by Breitling for use on this line. The dials also reference the limitation: “One of 400” for each of the stainless-steel pieces, and “One of 100” for each of the gold variations. Look closely for the subtle VB logo and inscription on the bracelet.

Powered by the Breitling Caliber 10, the Chronomat Automatic 36 Victoria Beckham has a running time of approximately 42 hours off the wrist. On the wrist, it keeps

going as long as you do, thanks to the self-winding automatic three-hand movement with date feature. Like all Breitling watches, each piece has achieved Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres (COSC) certification, a distinguished independent validation of its precision and performance.

This limited-edition Chronomat comes in a specially designed cobranded box and the gold pieces are accompanied by a co-branded travel pouch.

PICTURE PERFECT

The collection’s stunning campaign was shot by legendary Italian fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti, who has captured the world’s top leaders, celebrities, and supermodels, and whose work is permanently exhibited at the V&A Museum and National Gallery in London. The campaign features rising-star Annemary Aderibigbe, a model who embodies the essence of both the Breitling and Victoria Beckham woman: strength, sophistication, plus a touch of the unexpected.

Since 2018, Breitling has been committed to expanding its women’s watch offerings. With the Chronomat Automatic 36 Victoria Beckham, Breitling continues to celebrate women who are bold, authentic, and unapologetically confident—traits that never go out of style.

BLAST TOURBILLON DRAGON

The independent and integrated manufacture Ulysse Nardin embarks on an electrifying journey into the year of the dragon with a blast of creative energy, thrilling craftsmanship and horological prowess.

Since its debut in 2020, the Blast Tourbillon has established itself as the symbol of Ulysse Nardin’s unconventional know-how and design. With its angular, disruptive style, high-tech movement and iconic X structure, it emblemises Ulysse Nardin’s visionary spirit.

To mark the Lunar New Year, this innovative edgy creation has been entwined with the ancient magic of Chinese folklore, where the majestic Dragon meets the alluring Pearl.

According to the traditional Chinese culture, 2024 heralds the Year of the Dragon. These revered creatures symbolise strength, power and good fortune. They are frequently associated with pearls, which represent purity, wisdom and wealth. When these two symbols come together, as in countless tales, they signify a harmonious blend of power, providence and prosperity.

These traditional representations show a dragon symbolically guarding a magical pearl. So it is with the new Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon: the dazzling mythical creature, hand-sculpted in 5N rose gold, coils its way around and through the skeletonised X structure, as though slithering out from within the movement itself. Before it, protected between its five-clawed hands, the mythical pearl sits in prime position atop the cage of the flying tourbillon. The choice of five claws is not incidental: associated with Imperial dynasties, five-clawed dragons are traditionally seen as to signify the highest prestige.

RELEASING THE INNER DRAGON

In 2012, during the last Year of the Dragon, Ulysse Nardin presented the immaculate 88-piece limited edition, the Classico Enamel Champlevé Dragon, featuring a beautiful dragon artwork in enamel, a decorative art mastered by a handful of craftsmen and perpetuated by Ulysse Nardin. Fast forward to 2024, and this creature has exploded dramatically into life in three-dimensional form.

The creation of a 3D dragon appearing to slide its way beneath the watch’s hands and in between the plains of the gear train and the X structure presented significant challenges. Over a two-year development process, this has included designing this unique dial and making bespoke adjustments to the design of the Blast Tourbillon case, bezel, and glass-box crystal to accommodate this unique creation.

The rose gold dragon, engraved and micro-painted entirely by hand, is a testament to elite artistry and skill,

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
72 JEWELLERY & WATCHES THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

demanding four days of craftsmanship – three days for the engraving, and one for the painstaking application of gradated shades of red, orange and yellow. Every 3D aspect is modelled and rendered with utmost precision, from the scales of its rippling tail to its gleaming whiskers and the individual details of its claws.

THE ART OF INVENTION

Worlds collide as this fantastical creature wraps itself around a masterpiece of high-tech, avantgarde horology: the Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon. Audaciously structured behind the dragon and the skeletonized dial, the Blast Tourbillon’s manufacture movement, Calibre UN-172, is as unorthodox as it is ingenious. Ulysse Nardin’s first skeleton tourbillon calibre with automatic winding launched in 2020, it features a platinum micro-rotor visible at 12 o’clock, a tiny but miraculous device that delivers up to three days of power reserve.

As ever with Ulysse Nardin’s most advanced timepieces, the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock benefits from the Maison’s pioneering expertise in silicon fabrication. Introduced for the first time in 2001 with the revolutionary Freak, this material used for the escapement wheel, pallet fork, and balance spring adds further performance and resistance benefits.

DESIGNING THE FUTURE

With the Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon, the movement and case are unified in both concept and construction – strikingly architectural, relentlessly modernistic, and emblematic of the independent Manufacture’s enduring mission to rethink and reinvent haute horlogerie.

The rose gold upper case, with its angular facets and its opulent variations in satin-brushed and polished finishes, is paired with a bezel and case middle in DLC-blackened titanium, all mounted on an integrated black alligator strap with a 5N rose gold and black PVD titanium folding clasp.

For those who seek the extraordinary and the daring, the Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon is an embodiment of in-house innovations, métiers d’art and the magic of the Year of the Dragon. Fusing ancient mythology and cutting-edge horology, it invites you to celebrate the power and prosperity that this iconic symbol represents.

CHIFFRE ROUGE

Twenty years after its first launch, the Chiffre Rouge collection is born enjoying a renaissance, reinvented through eight new models* featuring some of the House’s most iconic codes; details chosen for their elegance and couture aesthetic.

Between tradition and metamorphosis, the bold singularity of this exceptional watch is reaffirmed by its architectural asymmetry – the case revealing a subtly enlarged and tapered side –, its red crown and matching hands swirl in a mesmerizing ballet. The˝color of life˝ in the words of the founding-couturier, a hue of the most intense character, is a unique signature.

Monsieur Dior’s favorite number, eight, also emblemizes this creation;

Revisited with a modern edge, these extraordinary timepieces are now adorned with the lines of cannage, an eternal symbol of Dior. Engraved with infinite precision and delicacy, the sumptuous, micro-textured graphics magnify the dial and oscillating weight.

Equipped with an automatic mechanism visible on the back through a captivating use of transparency, the watches are fitted with a variety of calibers, from chronograph to tourbillon, composing a diverse selection to suit all tastes.

Daring to mix-and-match, this timepiece comes with

74 JEWELLERY & WATCHES

The Jewellery House is proud to unveil the first creations from the De Beers Forces of Nature High Jewellery collection. Embodying the essence of De Beers, eight solitaire diamond rings – each with an accompanying crown or jacket – bring to life designs inspired by Mother Nature, while showcasing incredibly rare diamonds.

INTRODUCING DE BEERS FORCES OF NATURE THE LATEST HIGH JEWELLERY COLLECTION

Eight majestic animals native to southern Africa, a region close to the heart of the Jewellery House, inspired the collection of eight transformable rings in the first Chapter.

The starting point of each sculptural ring was a magnificent hero diamond, chosen by De Beers experts for its individual character and superlative quality. As the home of natural diamonds since

1888, and the only House with a direct connection to the Source of its diamonds, De Beers is uniquely placed to select the world’s rarest and most beautiful diamonds. Reflecting the heritage and expertise

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

of the House, each diamond dazzles in a timelessly elegant solitaire ring, which becomes a wearable work of art when paired with its jacket or crown.

The unique character of each hero diamond suggests a creature that shares the powerful energy and magnetism of nature’s rare treasures of the earth. Led by each one-of-akind gemstone, the De Beers design studio envisioned eight innovative jackets and crowns, each evoking an animal emblematic of southern Africa. Always abstract, never literal, the iconic animals are brought to life through sophisticated design details and peerless craftsmanship: testament to the incredible synergy between De Beers’ design studio and its High Jewellery atelier.

The lion inspired Jacket Ring features a mane of beaded gold, surrounding a 5.09 carat warmwhite trilliant-cut diamond. A jacket of faceted titanium encircles a 3.17 carat Fancy Dark greenish-yellow pear-shaped diamond to form the angular face of the rhinoceros. The eyes of a leopard are represented by perfectly paired marquise diamonds, its gaze intensified by a jacket of white and green pavé-set diamonds, while the zebra Jacket Ring features a pair of diamond and lacquered zebras prancing either side of a 3.09 carat Asscher-cut diamond.

A 3.2 carat heart-shaped diamond crowns a fluid, feminine ring whose intertwining trunks evoke the elephant, while the bold and powerful buffalo Crown Ring sees a 2.01 carat Fancy orange-brown diamond top pavé-set diamond horns. Two V-shaped rings set with brown rough diamonds embrace a 5.78 carat round brilliant solitaire diamond in the giraffe Crown Ring. Finally, three rings make up the greater kudu, whose elegant pavéset antlers interlock around a 2.01 carat cushion-cut diamond.

Epitomising the daring and creative spirit of De Beers High Jewellery, each ring can be worn in several ways: the four jacket rings transform from breathtaking solitaires into showstopping cocktail rings, while the four crown rings offer even more versatility. They can be styled with or without the hero diamond, or playfully spread across several fingers, providing multiple looks in one spectacular piece.

Céline Assimon, De Beers Jewellers CEO, commented: “I am incredibly proud to unveil eight one-of-a-kind rings from our new High Jewellery collection. The eight featured animals are an ode to the natural intoxicating beauty of the African continent, whose earth yields jawdropping natural treasures. When designing the rings, we had no constraints: we were guided by the individual character of eight extraordinary diamonds. Their incomparable beauty challenged us to create strikingly modern, abstract interpretations of the majestic creatures that roam the environment that De Beers strives to conserve through our Building Forever programme. Featuring rough diamonds and playful hidden details, these transformable rings are also tribute to the evolution of De Beers Jewellers, from purveyor of the finest solitaire diamonds to a leading creative force in contemporary High Jewellery.”

CELEBRATING CINEMA’S FINEST

Official Hotel Partner to the EE BAFTA Film Awards

One of the most glamourous nights in London’s cultural calendar, it’s no surprise The Savoy has been the official hotel partner for the EE BAFTA Film Awards for 14 years. Explore the exhibition

while sipping on a Golden Mask cocktail, a collaboration between Woodford Reserve and Champagne Taittinger, specially crafted with Crème d’Abricot and Peychaud’s Bitters in celebration of this year’s Film Awards. Firmly rooted in the performing arts, The Savoy was founded by theatrical impresario Richard D’Oyly in 1889 and hosted an early iteration of the BAFTA awards ceremony in 1959.

The Metropolitan Mayfair appoints in house culinary lead, Tim Tolley.

Metropolitan Mayfair is delighted to launch the new ‘Grille’ restaurant with the appointment of a new Culinary Director, Tim Tolley, of Vong fame. Tolley has spent the past two decades in NYC and London at Jean-George’s Vongerichten and as Head Chef at restaurants for Sir Terence Conran’s D&D restaurant group. Tim will be a huge asset to the team and play an integral role in our F&B development across all of the casinos as we continue to strive in differentiating within the entertaining environment with best in class service and high product quality. I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Chef Tolley is designing a menu that features a variety of fresh seafood dishes and innovative international cuisine. Sourcing UK produce from land to sea, the menu will feature a strong focus on ingredient led, fresh cooking, from the wild game and Penny Bun mushrooms to Cornwall’s pristine shellfish.

Tim Tolley, Culinary Director, says: “This is an incredibly exciting time at Metropolitan Mayfair and I’m proud to join an innovative group who are invested in creating a new and exciting culinary experience. I’m delighted to be joining the group, where I will bring my international experience and culinary creativity, whilst leading the talented teams across the UK casinos, to deliver exceptional menus and dining experiences.”

Paying homage to his time as Head Chef at Vong, Knightsbridge, and Spice Market in New York City, the menu highlights include his signature curry dish, which features British lamb and a homemade blend of 15 spices. The entire menu draws inspiration from spices such as cumin, sumac, coriander seeds, fresh turmeric and more subtle flavours of preserved lemon and coriander. Flatbreads and smashed burgers provide comfort food for gaming guests, and the playful lollipop chicken wings are a nostalgic nod to his New York days. Charcoal and wood fired prime steaks will round out the menu.

Chef Tolley will extend his role to oversee the F&B outlets across all eight UK casinos including; Metropolitan Mayfair, Park Lane, The Sportsman and Empire Casino.

A MOMENT WITH WORLDWIDE LUXURY AND FASHION EVENT AGENCY TUFF

Would you mind telling us how this all started for you and why you first wanted to get into the events business?

We started about 20 years ago by touring in the rock’n’roll business with major world-known bands. From there, our business evolved and met with fashion and luxury affairs.

What would you say is the key element to the success of your brand and what makes you the go-to company when it comes to organising leading events around the world?

Our main key of success is that we do only create bespoke events and we do always treat our clients in a unique way. We try to be the most pro-reactive, reactive and creative when it comes to understanding clients’ expectations.

Out of all the events you work with do you have one specific type of event that is your favourite to organise?

We are specialized in luxury events (galas, shows, trunk shows, launches..)…we do also produce large-scale fundraising events around the globe.

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

When planning an event whether it is a fashion event, corporate or charity event do you have a required period that you like to work with ensuring you have plenty of time to work with the client to create the best possible event?

Usually, it requires 4-6 months to create a unique event. For certain, it can be managed faster when needed… anticipation is the key we try hard to pass it to our partners.

Does the luxury event sector change dramatically in terms of clients’ tastes and expectations from year to year?

Oh yes, it has changed a lot over the past 10 years. It is not only the luxury industry that has changed but the entire world and more specifically the event industry; the way events get prepared are way

more eco-oriented in all terms, which is a very good thing and one of our values. It is also very important to use sustainability in the way you approach design and production.

Is there a specific type of client that you cater to?

Ideally, clients are willing to have a luxury approach and to get a unique event… in this highly anxious context, our customers need more than ever to dream and hope, we are doing our very best in this direction.

Have you seen any specific trends in the industry over the past year that are becoming more and more popular that perhaps once was deemed to be a rarity?

The most specific trend these days is clearly to be as eco-friendly as

possible in the approach of our events. It is actually more than a trend...

How important is sustainability to you?

More than crucial, one of our priorities. The clock is ticking fast, it has become one of our top concerned but not without difficulty. Our very first step is to decrease our carbon footprint, especially in a worldwide and international industry.

Obviously, global trends are rapidly changing so how difficult is it for you to adapt to these ever-changing trends and tastes?

Adapting to a fast-paced world can be challenging but there are always some strategies that can help: focusing on what is the most important for our clients, remaining self-care with our team to deliver hope and positivity in our events, staying informed and always continuing learning. We intend to create in a more sustainable and responsible manner to reduce fear and negative impacts.

The International Property Awards in its 2020 Americas Property Awards named Villa Serena a double award winner. The home received the “5-Star Best Residential Property Costa Rica 2020-2021” and “Award Winner Architecture Residence Costa Rica 2020-2021”. The project also received the nomination to the Grand Finals, where it will compete for “Best Residential Property Americas.”

VILLA SERENA

Villa Serena is located on the northern bay inside the Peninsula Papagayo Luxury Resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The site has a soft slope towards the access road, reaching a small plateau and then sharply sloping down towards the bay. The downslope area also has a curving shape, almost in the form of a small ridge right on the home’s location.

The clients desired a spacious residence, generous in areas, and that should create a multitude of sensations, views, and spaces to be enjoyed at different times. The home responds to this brief with a spatial arrangement based on modules that articulate around a softly curving façade wall based on the terrain’s natural shape. These modules are interconnected via covered, open-air breezeways, which generate view corridors and enhance the natural breeze.

The circulation spaces between the guest bedrooms, the main foyer, and the master bedroom are all open-air to further improve the home’s casual feel and its connection with nature.

The home welcomes you with a spacious main foyer via a massive front door suspended from vertical columns and without the typical header. This design is intentional to allow the constant flow of natural

THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024
THE ART OF LUXURY ISSUE 63 2024

breeze through the foyer, from which you first experience the majestic views of the ocean upon entering the home.

The home features an inverted design that responds to the sharp downslope towards the ocean. The primary access is on the upper level, where we have the Main Suite and two additional guest bedrooms. On the lower level, we have the main social area, a spacious open room with the main living, dining, and kitchen areas. Next to it is a large open-air covered outdoor dining area with outdoor cooking, defined by a custom curving wood screen and cantilevering wood table, all in solid Cenizaro wood.

From this area, we have a spatial connection to the outdoor spaces around the swimming pool, punctuated by the cantilevering bridge that hovers around 20 feet above the ground at its tip. At this point, you experience a sense of connection with the natural environment, close to the treetops where you often see the capuchin monkeys swinging around the branches. Often, entire families of monkeys, even mothers carrying their young on their backs, are seen from these outdoor spaces.

Our designs are always seeking strategies to provide a variety of spaces and richness of experiences. Our philosophy combines this with an environmentally friendly approach by reducing the number of rooms that require air conditioning. All of the home’s main hallways, staircases, and any circulation area are all open-air rooms. This approach allows us to have a 28% reduction in the total air conditioning load compared to the typical scheme where all these spaces are “interior, air-conditioned” rooms. We allow ourselves the freedom to make use of these outdoor spaces for much more. This is exemplified by the main entrance foyer, from which we create a sense of surprise, say a “wow-factor” when entering the home.

Our approach complements with technical elements for a final result, a residence with a high energy efficiency level for its size. The variable-flow A/C system continually adapts to the home’s needs; when zones turn on or off, the main

condenser system ramps up our down accordingly. The exterior door and window system feature impressively high levels of thermal insulation. All of the exterior doors and windows are double-glazed and with Low-E solar protection coating. The western-facing curtain wall is particularly exposed; therefore, we specified this in triple-glazing plus the Low-E layer. The curtain wall possesses a particular detail of a frameless glass corner, something extremely hard to accomplish, which typically window vendors say cannot be done. This is one example of our attention to detail, where the right product allows visual enjoyment from the inside while providing the needed technical performance at the same time.

In general terms, we designed the home to provide the owners and its occupants a sense of comfort, absolute connection with the environment, blurring of indoor and outdoor lines, a high degree of technical performance, equipment, and the highest fit finish.

LAGULA ARQUITECTES DESIGN VILLA WITH UNIQUE OVOID SHAPE WHICH PAYS TRIBUTE TO SURROUNDING LANDSCAPE

Five-star Spanish lifestyle resort

Camiral Golf & Wellness in the Girona – Costa Brava region (Spain) has now added Selva 25 to its impressive collection of properties for sale. The villa’s elevated plot is one of the most premium locations at Camiral Golf & Wellness, with sweeping golf course views surrounding the villa, as well as the Montseny mountains to the west. As it is positioned right at the end of a south-facing slope, the property feels secluded from the outside world.

Designed by award-winning Lagula Architects in 2022, the home has been designed around a central courtyard, which is created to give

the feeling of living in a forest amidst a canopy of trees. To truly open itself up to the surrounding views, Selva 25 has an openplan patio. The 3-bedroom and 3-bathroom property has a unique ovoid shape and takes inspiration from the sun in a bid to frame the surrounding landscape perfectly.

La Selva project pays tribute to the surrounding landscape, with each distinct villa constructed to reflect its local topography. Lagula Arquitectes notes that Selva 25 was “an exciting challenge” and they “found harmony between the circular shape of the building and the floor plan to create something that felt cohesive for

its owner.” Spread across three levels, the ground floor is home to central areas; the living spaces and kitchen, the upper floor houses the bedrooms, and the basement provides a sanctuary to create a multi-purpose space dependent on the owner’s needs.” Selva 25 embodies the essence of a home: a cozy ambiance, a seamless layout, and yet, there’s an unmistakable, truly remarkable quality about this property. It is also fused together with a central bespoke staircase which connects all the different areas of the house.

Just one hour from Barcelona, and situated within over 1,300 acres of pristine, landscaped hills

and Mediterranean forest, the resort is within easy reach of two international airports as well as the wild Costa Brava – with extensive leisure activities available at 5-star Hotel Camiral nearby.

The resort is home to two worldclass golf courses – recently ranked the best golf resort in Spain, tennis courts, walking trails, as well as a 1,000m² Wellness Centre: a modern, results-driven sanctuary combining holistic treatments with state-ofthe-art technology to garner results catering to personal needs.

Since its venture into Real Estate in 2010, Camiral Golf & Wellness has embraced low-density, sustainable and biophilic design throughout its contemporary properties, incorporating principles of wellbeing to equip residents with a sense of ecological belonging and natural immersion.

More broadly, the resort is recognised for its commitment to its surrounding environment, featuring an organic garden, 12-acre vineyard and 18 beehives hosting a million endangered honeybees, from which it produces around

50kg of honey each year. In-house biologist Oriol Dalmau oversees the parkland while leading a variety of educational, nature-based programmes and activities onsite. Recent investments include a renovation of all central air conditioning units in the 5-star hotel and Wellness Centre reducing energy consumption by 50%, the installation of a 900 squaremetre photovoltaic power station reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 51 tonnes per year and the golf courses irrigation using 100% recycled water.

FLUID HOME –SPACES WITHOUT BORDERS

Large sliding glass walls offer a view of the infinity pool and the Pietra Orsera Marble walkway, seemingly floating in the middle of the artificial lake, dominated by a Japanese conifer.

The 700 m2 structure is distributed over three levels. On the ground floor, the open space overlooks the garden with swimming pool, while taking space indoor are the living room and kitchen, which not only become a place where one eats, but also a place to work, socialize and study. The protagonist of this space is the large 3-meter oak table that

extends the kitchen worktop made of brushed brown porphyry to take on the function of a “home hearth”.

Upstairs, retractable sliding walls allow the bedroom and bathroom spaces to communicate and control the desired level of privacy.

For the bathroom areas of the residence the choice is the CEA stainless steel taps for the ZIQQ and MILO360 collections in continuous dialogue with natural materials such as wood, porphyry, travertine and Pietra Orsera marbles. A journey through different materials and textures combined to enhance their characteristic beauty.

Two other bedrooms are located on the top floor where a large volume in bronze-effect aluminum placed in the centre of the room acts as a decorative casing and encloses a shower, sink, toilet and Turkish bath.

TAMASHI CERAMICHE REFIN

SIMPLY SOPHISTICATED

Tamashi – soul in Japanese – is the new collection of wood-inspired porcelain tiles proposed by Ceramiche Refin, inspired by the most essential and contemporary natural woods currently used in furnishings. The result of painstaking research to find the perfect graphic and colour balance, the collection offers uniform, balanced surfaces characterized by fine, dense, parallel veins and subtle colour nuances.

To create Tamashi, Refin worked on reduction, intending to obtain the quintessence of wood: the image of cleanliness comes from the absence of knots and the choice of dense, fine, and regular veins, resulting in a seamless, linear, and fluid surface.

The result is a modern, elegant, and natural simplicity that stems from a skillful graphic and colour balance.

The collection is barely moved by a few flashing effects, and is featured by a deliberate absence of marks and contrasts.

The surface is not flattened, but rather the minimal and refined style is emphasized, allowing for the definition of large and seamless scenes. Tamashi shows a delicate shading effect, originated by the veining pattern and subtle nuances;

the matte finish and light structure accentuate the effect of warmth and essentiality, rich in natural charm.

The palette expands from the traditional woods to include seven colours that Refin carefully studied – ranging from light to dark – to give the collection a new modernity. The evocative names chosen for the shade – Sugar, Vanilla, Cream, Tea, Walnut, Caviar, and Pepper –provide an unusual synaesthesia that conveys pleasant sensations.

Tamashi is offered in the 25x150cm size, the classic board that is updated to design rooms with a sophisticated taste, while retaining all the charm of the material.

The Leaf decoration is available in the 60x60cm size, and in three colour combinations: Leaf Tea (Cream+Tea), Leaf Walnut (Vanilla+Walnut), Leaf Pepper (Sugar+Pepper). Depending on its rotation direction, the arch pattern can create multiple geometries to give rhythm to both floor and wall surfaces.

THE MONTMARTRE APARTMENT: A PARISIAN DESIGN JEWEL BLENDING CHARM AND MODERNITY

Functionality and comfort

Located in the iconic Sacré Coeur district of Paris, the “Montmartre” project is the latest creation of renowned interior designer Mélodie Violet, owner of Imagine design studio, specializing in high-end major renovations.

In the heart of Montmartre, this 35m² apartment on the top floor of a historic building is designed to maximize space and light, representing a symbiosis of old and new. The extension into the attic offers a breathtaking view of the Parisian sky, enhancing the natural light.

The interior, marked by softness and sensuality, stands out for its use of high-quality materials. The Hungarian point parquet and subtle, warm colors reflect a feminine and refined aesthetic. Each element, from the fabrics to the vintage pieces, has been meticulously chosen to highlight the uniqueness of the place.

Elegant atmosphere

A blend of art and design characterizes this living space, where natural light and contemporary furniture create an atmosphere that is both elegant and comfortable. The furniture includes a sculptural cream sofa, round walnut coffee tables, and custom-made poufs, offering both originality and comfort. The wallpaper, a majestic mural depicting the Tuscan lands of Italy, has been set as a backdrop to the customdesigned library. It surrounds the newly installed fireplace, inviting gathering. The living room thus presents a perfect balance between lifestyle and elegance.

The kitchen is designed in a clean and functional style, with light wood surfaces reflecting a rustic and contemporary mix. The floor features ancient marble cabochon paving in beige and rust colors, delicately bordered by a brass finish. The soft and bright porcelain backsplash highlights modern elements like the brass faucet and open shelves, optimizing the functionality of the space.

The dining room is designed to be welcoming, with a walnut wall and a flea-market mirror with golden details as highlights. The travertine table and the custom-designed fabric bench create a cocoon of comfort, style, and originality.

Serenity and softness

Located in the mezzanine, the bedroom is a space that combines tradition and modernity. The original beams add historical character, while the purple carpet offers comfort and warmth. Carefully chosen lighting and floral-patterned bed linen create a peaceful and restful atmosphere. Every nook has been optimized for storage, without visually cluttering the space.

The Montmartre apartment’s bathroom is a celebration of softness and elegance. The wall tiles, in shades of powder pink, create a delicately feminine and soothing ambiance. The smooth texture of the tiles is enhanced by the contrast of hexagonal floor tiles in a Siena earth hue, adding depth to the room. The brass finishes and the design of the washbasin unit contribute to the refinement and serenity of the space

Apartment Montmartre is more than just a place of residence; it’s a unique living experience in the heart of Paris, where every detail reflects a level of originality and elegance rare in urban residential projects.

SEASONS SONG AT THE SCOTTISH GALLERY

Claire Harkess captures fine detail from the natural world, encapsulating the flora and fauna as the seasons change.

Harkess’s truthful and poignant observation is an exposition of the extraordinary nature of the ordinary, in her new exhibition Seasons Song at The Scottish Gallery (7 March – 6 April 2024).

Harkess studies the natural world continuously with a keen and curious eye, the hours spent observing are just the starting point as she goes beyond conventional representation; every brushstroke is loaded with movement, colour, light and emotion.

Born in Ayr, Scotland, Harkess graduated from Glasgow School of Art in the early 1990s. In recent years her painting has led her to study landscapes with fragile ecosystems, examining and interpreting life on the fringes. Painting in watercolour offers a unique directness; the essential qualities of light and energy present in the natural world are the very

essence of the medium itself. The delicacy of her palette and economy of her markmaking creates a subtle tension, representing a world that is ‘holding still’, giving a sense of freedom, spirit, time, and place.

this visit are direct and calligraphic, offering a sense of being at sea - the noise, wind, smell and speed of the birds as they glide above.

Harkess remarks: ‘While observing bird and wildlife behaviours, patterns, and movement, I’ll be thinking about compositions and how to translate elements into a finished work: the intersection of branches; the placement of birds; shapes created by positive and negative space; a gradation of colour in foliage; the sway of willow tree; an interesting colour combination. All these observations inform and inspire me.’

In Seasons Song, Harkess has collaborated with the prize-winning essayist Chris Arthur, providing a series of haiku, forming a beautiful conversation between an artist and a poet. His words inspired a summer boat trip to visit the Bass Rock and Isle of May in East Lothian. A series of watercolours of diving gannets and many other seabirds ensued. The paintings made in response to

It is how Harkess makes us feel, bringing us closer to nature rather than looking from a distance. Woodland birds, seabirds, and birds of prey are represented in delicate, luminous watercolour, and her virtuoso technique, drawing on Eastern and Western painting traditions, captures the magic of a bird in flight.
