Josiah Henson Museum & Park Maryland’s newest museum of African American history!

The NEW Josiah Henson Museum & Park in North Bethesda, Maryland, commemorates the life of Reverend Josiah Henson (1789–1883). He was renowed as an Underground Railroad hero, abolitionist and author. Reverend Henson’s autobiography helped inspire the fictional anti-slavery novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

The museum’s exhibits and programs celebrate the challenging and inspiring life of Reverend Henson, educates visitors about enslavement in Maryland, and promotes an appreciation of the African American experience of Montgomery County.
