Interview By Vassilios Nicolaos Vitsilogiannis

Ameni Esseibi was born in Tunis, Tunisia. She is French educated, graduated high school with a bac diploma, and now she’s enrolled at The American University of Emirates in full scholarship and she’s the brand ambassador of the university. She’s the first curvy model of the Middle East, a body activist, and a motivational speaker. She’s AMENI; we adore her for her charm and wittiness.

1. Are you happy with the range of sizes you can find on the fashion market, at the moment? Honestly no, 90% of the stores in the Middle East don’t even have a plus size range. The rest just go up to size 18 but would still be small.

2. What do you think curvy women should do to gain back their confidence and feel more comfortable? I personally think that curvy women don’t know they’re worth and underestimate themselves. First of all, they have to know the value of their body and worth. Then they need to be convinced that the real beauty comes from the inside and not the outside, the way we look can change at any second. Being curvy is attractive. Women need to accept the way they look and to be comfortable with their bodies. You need to be wise, mature and aware of being able to feel fully confident, it’s not easy.

3. Would you like to see more trendy styles at high fashion stores, for curvy women? Yes of course, every women, no matter what her body looks like, should be able to have access to high fashion stores. But mostly to be able to wear whatever she wants.

4. What are the challenges of perception that you face? The biggest challenge is to make people understand the whole concept of body positivity. A lot of them just think I support obesity and diabetes.

6

Moda Dynastie |

5. How has the plus-size blogging world changed? The plus size blogging world has changed years ago. People are more aware of the topic in our days, also the fact that the curvy bodies become a ‘’trend’’ these days . Women are not afraid to talk about body positivity and the community is growing day by day.

6. So how is plus-size fashion viewed by the fashion world at large? Strong women. That have the confidence and the courage to say ‘’this is my body, this who I am. I love myself.‘’ It’s a challenging and sensitive topic to talk about but women these days are joining forces and fighting for it.

7. In that vein, what is the most common misconception about plus-size women? That all plus-sized women are unhealthy.

8. Does the money to be a plus size model is a worthwhile exposure? What I do isn’t about the money or fame but more about making people understand my message by helping them.

9. How long does it take a curvy woman to become a plus size model? Depends on the agency she’s signing with.

10. What kinds of jobs can plus size models book? Same jobs as any other model would be booked for. Why would they be a difference?

11. Is there a place for plus size models in the high fashion industry? Yes of course, why would they be place for petit, skinny, tall models but not plus size?

12. Who are some famous plus-size models I should know about? Ashley Granham, Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine.

13. Are there any plus size modeling agencies? Not in Dubai, you can just get signed with a normal agency.

14. Is it difficult to break into the fashion industry when slim women are being considered mainstream? Not if you have confidence and the courage to prove everyone wrong. You have to be fearless.

15. How do you feel about being labeled a "plus-size" model when you are just starting out? Personally, I really don’t like the word plus size, I would rather use the word curvy. You don’t call a skinny model a ‘’minus model‘’?

16. If once in your life, you decide to lose weight, what do you think the people in the industry would look at you like? If I ever lose weight, it would for my health until then I’m perfectly fine this way. I love my body. I would always stay curvy no matter what.

17. What props you up in moments when you are feeling down about yourself or your body image? The messages I receive from my followers, they’re my motivation.

18. Fashion may have welcomed curvy models, but media not completely. What the media people should do to accept curvy woman? I honestly think the opposition media has accepted curvy women more than fashion.

19. What are some of the collaborations you have done until now? I’ve been part of several campaign like Farfetch, Charlotte Tilbury, Max, Namshi, Vogue Arabia and many more. MC in the Cosmopolitan Awards and the cover star for June 2019.

20. What are your future plans? Keep motivating curvy young girls and ladies. Get signed with a big international modeling agency and show everyone what they can do when they love themselves.

It has been my passion to become a fashion designer since school days. I was drawn to the world of fantasy of making clothes, styling and to become a fashionista. I was on my journey exploring to start and undertook graduation in B.Sc Apparel and Fashion technology from KCT college of Coimbatore in 2006 and along side diploma in multi-media to equip my knowledge in media to create my imaginations. I have always been a rebel and extravagant in my style and work with ambitious projects, which fetched top grades in my studies. I was restricted to work outside my town being raised in sophisticated Indian family. Born in Ooty and schooling in Coimbatore, the exposure I had from the environment and society I was living in limited my freedom of thought and the journey I wanted to take in my life.

But my flamboyant attitude and energy to explore never stopped my sprit to try and found my self to work in many sectors of Textiles industry, some for hobby and some for pocket money from designing, sourcing, managing the productions and so on. In 2009, I started Hawest studio-custom made evening dresses for men and women, which was unsuccessful. My styles were quite futuristic for the clients to experiment. So I was making free wedding dresses for my friends. My passion grew deeper when I first saw Alexander McQueen’s collection in 2008 , It was a collection inspired from India. One of the awe-inspiring collections I had ever seen and I was curious to learn his mind and techniques. I imported dress-form, non-textile equipments from Hong Kong, UK and USA to learn the art of making

corsets, jackets, tail coats and more in my studio where I was creating my own patterns and stitching them for fun. I was referred to a someone by a friend of mine to design corporate merchandises. He was just starting his company and looking for someone like me to design. One of my designs fetched him his first corporate order. Startled with my fashion sketches and the company advised my leave Coimbatore and travel abroad explore my opportunities. My mom understood what I truly wanted and gave my freedom to leave home after 3 yrs to chase my dream outside my place. First time I left home town to write my entrance exam in Pearl Academy, Delhi and NID, Ahmedabad. I got selected in Pearl and rejected in NID finals. My opportunity got missed out because of the dates. Later my application with London College of Fashion was also rejected on a very simple reason, commenting on the name of the course ” Apparel and Fashion “. For me it became a challenge to find true fashion. Later I got selected for my MA Fashion Styling in BCU, Birmingham and arrived UK in 2010. Where my journey was to find my heart, life and love as to what I want to become. My life started in Birmingham and gave life to my vision as “Adam and Alice, London” today.

Dimitris Strepkos and Martha Adamidou designed the finalists' swimsuits, the first for men and the second for women. Erotokritos Kimionis and Haris Tsiaras designed the men's suits first and the latter curated the girls' evening appearances. Are you online? I have to send the material to the magazine. I need the photos we took at the Daniel Lismore Exhibition in Naples.

Daniel L ismo r e E xhibit ion , Napl es Despina:

Ok, I have them. That was a great exhibition though. Pan Palazzo delle Arti was an amazing place. The exhibits was spectacular.

Vassilios:

The whole exhibition ran for almost a month and was crowded almost every day. It was the happening of all events this summer. On the opening day, remember it was the 9th of July, people interrupted their vacation, traveled to see the exhibition. We’re lucky attended it.

Despina:

People love to see new, creative and quality spectacles. This was a Grand Spectacle. Daniel Lismore is known for living his life as art, wearing elaborate and extravagant ensembles. He combines Haute Couture with vintage fabrics, found objects, ethnic jewellery, millinery and more.

Vassilios: He’s a sculptor and fashion designer.

He worked for Vogue and Pop Magazine. He’s a flamboyant dresser and a nonconformist personality. He doesn’t go with the flow.

Moda Dynastie |

Despina: He was a speaker at TEDx 2019.

In his striking talk, he explained why he chose to be as art. I love the way he carries himself.

Vassilios: Did you see all his displays

were very extravagant and theatrical? He designed and created the whole exhibition to look like a theater stage of another era.

Despina: I spoke with him and he was

very humble and down to earth. Also, the people around him very happy to talk to him. His presence had vibes and energy flow.

Vassilios: Remember the action of happiness and positiveness inside the gallery. He’s having another exhibition in November. Pack your suitcase and we head off.

Despina:

We have to travel a lot this season too. I’m ready!

Paola Zannoni Paola Zannoni was born in Campiglia Marittima, a small medieval town in the heart of Tuscany, just a few miles away the Tirraenian coast. And since she was twenty she lived in this small but picturesque and suggestive environment, studying and maturing that particular form and those particular colours that in future will appear in an amazing and unusual pictorial expression to receive so many consents in Tuscany and elsewhere. Consents evidenced and corroborated by numerous cups, medals and awards. Paola's painting appears highly expressive in the subjective evaluation of colours and forms. It's the images that, spontaneously deformated, want to represent the manifold internal transformations of the modern man, sometimes suffering and frustrated by existential problems, sometimes excited and cleared by idyllic visions. This painting - very interesting and personal - makes curious and deeply moves, it will marvel and it will confuse both the profane and the connoisseur... why? Because, generally it is not generated by reproducing real and concrete subjects, but it comes from visions and impressions that she herself only can feel, perhaps even without her own "self" being aware of it. What astonishes in Zannoni's picture is not only the arrogance of the image - sometimes represented monstrous and demoniac to denote a real strength of character - but it is also surprising how contrasts of colours are skilfully organized. Sometimes colours are numerous and well amalgamated, sometimes the colour is only one: but there are so many shades and tones to create a magic pleasure to the image thus transmitted, taking in the message of joy or of sadness, of discouragement or of satisfaction sent by that colour to us as if it was a well known music. And if it is not enough the transposition on canvas of depth and purity of human contents in a way that only this painter may represent so originally, she herself may create beautiful floral motives on fabric or linen for scarves and foulards, for lampshades and draperies, for tableclothes and dresses.

Yana, why did you decide to create this project and what is the secret of your success? I was inspired to create my project as it was my intention to help young and unknown talents because I know from my own experience how difficult it is to break through when you are alone, without support, without the finances and other factors but you have the main treasure - this is your talent - a priceless gift, what God gave to you since birth, this is why the world needs you to push forward towards your dream. IF YOU CAN'T GET WHAT YOU WANT EVEN IF YOU HAVE TRIED MANY TIMES, NEVER GIVE UP. IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK CHANGE THE STRATEGY BUT NOT YOUR GOAL. I will say from personal experience as a person who has begun from scratch many times and eventually succeeded in whatever I do, I have not only versatile talents but a very strong faith in myself and my Success! CONSTANTLY PEOPLE BELIEVE IN ALL THINGS BUT NOT IN THEMSELVES, THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE. Unfortunately, many talented people for various reasons do not have enough confidence and assertiveness to achieve their goals. I realised that my mission was to bring young and unknown talented people up to a new level. I decided to put together all the creative talents that I possess onto one platform, called "Flame", and to allow an opportunity for likeminded creative people to take the first step towards success and achieve something more in their life. I am an artist and fashion designer, my brand "Yana Flame Couture" has existed for several years in London and is known internationally. I have taken part in international competitions and showcased on big stages in different countries. A truly purposeful person is one for whom there are no barriers - Unstoppable me - 'so everyone calls me'. I don't know the meaning of impossible. Impossible =I’M POSSIBLE!!!

Flame Festival is a young and ambitious project getting bigger and better each new season. The project was created to support young talents from the sphere of Fashion and Art. The event will be held in London on August 16-18 at the most prestigious 5 * Hotel 'The Royal Horseguards Hotel' in central London, just a stone's throw from Trafalgar Square. The festival will bring together our creative team and many participants from different nationalities from around the world: designers, artists of different genres, celebrities and international VIP guests.

I DON'T JUST DREAM ABOUT IT, I PUT IN FRONT OF ME UNREALISTIC GOALS AND I GO AND GET THEM. AFTER EACH NEW STEP AND ACHIEVEMENT I ALWAYS SAY: "THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING"," A GREAT FUTURE AWAITS ME".

I'm a talented and creative person who can and really wants to bring beauty to this world! There is no brighter fire than the one burning in my soul! In order to tell you about myself, it is necessary to give you some background information and history. I will try to be brief, but not dry. The world of creation is absolutely immense (unlimited)! The true Russian Soul is as wide and deep as the ocean, filled with wealth, goodness and creativity! Many years ago, in a big industrial Russian city, Yekaterinburg lived a little girl Yana in a family of good parents and grandparents. My parents tried to enrol me into various youth creativity classes, needlework, sewing and drawing in art school where I learnt to sew, draw, experimented with sculpture, cut and glued paper to make flowers, made collages and tried manymany other things to prove myself and (this world) that I can create beauty. I started sewing and dressing my dolls, helping my grandmother to sew fur coats and cut fur hats, subsequently dressing others. My grandmother made a major impact on my life: she noticed my creative abilities and persistence in my character to set the goals and achieve them no matter what.

What’s your background in fashion?

I moved to Milan to pursue my degree in Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni. Seeking more, I completed a master degree in Fashion and Textile Design at Istituto Europeo Di Design. I returned back home in 2009 and launched the first collection in 2011 with Starch Foundation.

2. At what age did you start becoming fascinated with fashion? I’ve always loved fashion but only decided to explore fashion design when I attended a digital illustration workshop during my graphic design studies in Beirut.

3. Where do you get your artistic inspiration from? My core inspiration stems from different artists around the world, mostly street artists. However, for the very first time, I drew inspiration from my key archival pieces for the upcoming FW19 collection.

4. Have you ever felt to push the boundaries of creativity? It is very important for me as a designer to think outside the box and continuously challenge myself to come up with innovative ideas every season.

5. What is your brand philosophy? Our philosophy is to create garments that become part of your lifestyle. Stand out pieces for every age, which are timeless and can easily be translated from day to night.

6. What skills are important for a fashion designer for a successful career in the industry? Confidence, hard working, a strong network of industry professional and of course, creativity. Please tell the top three things in your styling kit that are must haves. I suggest a pair of white sneakers, cool shades and a pop of color for the lips.

7. Please tell the top three things in your styling kit that are must haves. I suggest a pair of white sneakers, cool shades and a pop of color for the lips.

8.

How do you measure success?

I would say a brand is successful once it reaches its initial financial goals, when it is surrounded with happy and recurring clients and when you can easily spot in from a distance.

9.

Do you follow some trends for your looks?

Following trends is inevitable with the widespread use of social media and the accessibility of content. This being said, our collections are not based on what’s hot now because MIRAHAYEK pieces can be worn year after year, unlike trends which will eventually fade out.

10. What kind of style you would love to have in your outfits? I would say the overall look is relaxed, comfortable and playful.

11. What fabrics do you use? Crepe, mesh, knit, cotton, parachute and a lot of color blocking. Name some celebrities who have worn your clothes. Daniella Rahme, Cynthia Khalife, Stephanie Atallah, Ingrid Bawab

12. Do you find men and women well-dressed today? I can definitely say that men and women put more effort into how they dress today, especially because of photos being posted on social media at every occasion.

13. What sorts of things do you do to prepare yourself for an upcoming fashion shoot or show? I do a lot of inspiration research to determine the mood of the shoot or the show. Everything from hair to makeup, styling and location all play a very important role to create the perfect story for the collection.

14. How do you stay updated on current trends? Research, reading, social media for street style and runway images of the latest shows.

15. What is your most memorable fashion moment? Good or Bad. Two of my favorite fashion moments are Lady Gaga in the Marc Jacobs oversized suit and Rihanna in the bright yellow Oscar De La Renta t-shirt and gown.

16. Have you ever worn something that is totally out of fashion in your life? Yes I have and I often do. As long as I feel comfortable and I feel good, it doesn’t really matter to me if it is out of fashion or not.

17. When is your next collection showcased? We have just finalized the FW19 collection and we’re currently preparing for our SS20 collection, which will be showcased in Paris during Paris Fashion Week end of September.

18. What role do you think social media/ influencers play in fashion today? Influencers play a very vital role in the industry today. They’re the groundbreaking barriers for creating key trends, elevating a brand and influencing sales.
