1. What do you like about this line of work and why did you choose this profession? I have been a makeup enthusiast since my early teens and was obsessed with creating new looks. I loved the power of makeup and I am still amazed about what it can do for someone's personality and boost their confidence. This line of work gives me an opportunity to share my skills and contribute to best day of the brides life.
2. Tell me about your experience as a makeup artist? My experience as a makeup artist has been lovely. I get to meet people from different parts of the world and make so many new friends.
3. What are the latest makeup trends? In today's time, the trend is what you want it be. But my current obsession is the dewy look.
4. A client is not happy with their look. How do you respond? Professionalism is the key. It's important to ensure that the client is happy, I would do whatever is necessary, in my strengths, to achieve that.
5. What is your favorite celebrity makeup look and why? JLo's Smokey eyes and nude lips forever favorite <3

8. Have you ever made a huge mistake when applying makeup to a client? How did you handle it?
10
Moda Dynastie |
The beauty of makeup is that it can modified the way you want it. The key is keep checking the outcome on stages and modify when needed.
9. Say if a client asks you about the most unsuitable makeup style for her, what would you suggest? The recommendation for the style of the makeup is based on the face type, eye type and skin type of a person. For eg. I would not suggest dewy makeup to uneven textured skin type or kohl for deep set eyes.
10. What do you apply to a client’s face before starting the makeup? I start with Dr. Jart - Water Drops, hydrating moisturizer or a Hydrating Sheet Mask.
11. Which is your personal favorite cosmetic brand? It's so difficult to choose one but Anastasia Beverly Hills, Tarte and Nars are the Top 3. I have recently started loving the HBN cosmetics foundations too.
12. How do you handle unsatisfied clients, who don’t like their hair and makeup done by you? (I think I've answered this question befor) Professionalism is the key. It's important to ensure that the client is happy, I would do whatever is necessary and in my strengths to achieve that.
13. What is one advice you would like to give your customers about taking care of makeup? I would advise to take care of the skin and apply SPF 50 sunscreen every day.

by Vassilios Nicolaos Vitsilogiannis Humaira Syed began her brand NISWA at the age of 20. She had a choice to go to college or pursue her passion straight away which was Niswa Fashion. Humaira started this company as a hobby and it took off like a wild fire. Although she was new in fashion and had no professional background in it, Humaira was able to build a huge fan base just by being able to provide her family, friends and community the clothing that suits their needs. Humaira has been fascinated with fashion from a very young age ‘’maybe since I was a child’’ she recalls. Humaira’s mother always told Humaira wouldn't let her pick her outfits. Instead, Humaira would choose what she would want to wear and what she want her mother to purchase for her. Humaira had some sort of inclination towards fashion. The struggle to get modest yet trendy clothing was also real and she would attribute that it also directed the designer towards this path. Humaira gets artistic inspiration from many things including nature and cultural designs. In South Asian culture, the clothes have a lot of embellishment and detailed work on them. So, she pays close attention to details and those details is what the designer incorporates into the designs. She has loved art as a form of selfexpression! In elementary school, one of Humaira’s works of art was selected to be on the cover of the children's school book. She remembers being selected by the art teacher to take part in art competitions and even won one of them and she finds it easy to design fashion apparel items today. ‘’There are many great artists, designers and trend setters out there. I call myself a gap filler. I know what I want to wear and what my friends want to wear and if I don't see this in the market, I bring it’’ she said. Humaira pushes the boundaries of creativity by trying to go beyond her comfort level in creating new designs and not letting negativity get to her. Being a designer and an entrepreneur, sometimes one worries which designs will do well in the market or not. Especially in this time, trends keep changing and evolving and keeping up can be a challenge but Humaira believes in her vision and stay firm and usually receive great feedback which allows her to be confident in being more and more creative. Also, Humaira knows that if something does not do well but even one person appreciated it, it’s OK and she did what she intended to do.

Humaira’s brand philosophy is to be able to provide Muslim women modern but modest clothing. Our designer thinks one of the important skills for a fashion designer to be successful is to think out of the box and to be oneself. A designer always needs to try to be creative and do a lot of research at the same time. When I asked Humaira what were the top three things in her styling kit that were must haves, she replied ‘’Black/White Slips, Accessories, and Neutral Hijabs are a must, especially when styling for our photoshoots!’’
Humaira Syed
The designer would measure success through the positive feedback she receives from the customers and how many people actually support the brand and its concept. In the end of the day, her brand supporters are what brought her this far. Humaira follows some trends for her looks once she has many favorite fashionistas, brands, and runway shows that she keeps up with! Also, she loves Minimal and Dressy style in her outfits. A variety of fabrics such as chiffon, jersey, silk, and many more which will be launching soon, are the fabrics to her new line! @queenfroggy @omayazein @neelam and many more influencers are the celebrities who have worn Humaira’s clothes. To my question, if men and women are well-dressed today, she comes with this answer ‘’That's tough! The reason our modest fashion brand began was because of the lack of clothes in the market that fit our needs. It has become so difficult for us to find clothes that are long in length and included full sleeves but we believe that overall, women are able to dress more and more freely and that allows for dressing well.’’ Humaira and her brand NISWA prepare before hand such as gathering accessories, purses, shoes, slip-ons, neutral hijabs, camera gear and arranging the location and models and sometimes a special photographer and behind the scenes coverage. Our designer stays updated on current trends by Research. She has to keep being on top of the game by always seeing the latest brands runway shows, magazines, and just be inspired with everything fashion! Humaira recalls the most memorable fashion moment the ones being working with so many social media influencers she would never thought be working with and the amount of opportunities that keep arising for her brand! The hijab tutorial video with @ queenfroggy reached 2M+ views which the brand never thought it would ever achieve!
NISWA brand try to keep even the most high fashion items affordable for the customers. Our designer has worn clothes out of fashion sometimes in her life. She has probably done it so many times and maybe she still does because in the end of the day, fashion doesn't define her or all of us. Everyone has their own style. The brand next collection will be releasing right before Ramadan! Humaira believes that influencers are not only trendsetters but bring their preferences to their audience, so it’s very important to connect with them and work with the right influencers who appreciate the brand and style.

[Lahore: 23 September 2019] The House of Kamiar Rokni is set to showcase Golestān, at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. Golestān the Garden of Roses, represents a poetry of ideas. Drawing from Kamiar Rokni’s Persian heritage, Golestān explores the influence of Iran in Sub Continental design, playing with the diversity within femininity, from the modern to the classic, from softer to bolder expressions. Indeed, Rokni envisions modern couture as layered and multi faceted, embracing different aspects of our nature Golestān also takes its title and creative interpretation from Persian poet Sa’adi’s magnum opus, presenting a collection as a confluence of many ideas but ultimately proposing a celebration of one’s individuality; one where no two flowers are alike in the House of Kamiar Rokni’s Garden of Roses. The ties that bind fashion, art, culture and imagination make up the very fabric of The House of Kamiar Rokni’s DNA. Golestān is based in rich velvets, organzas, jacquards, chiffons, handwoven silk trims with detailed silk and tissue nets, introducing multiple rich textiles within one outfit. The collection explores many silhouettes across a colour palette that channels rich, high contrast bursts to the softer, dreamier and more ethereal hues.

I AA I n t e rn at i on al Car Exhi bition Despina:
An event that combines technology and innovation is always one of my favorites.
Vassilios: I didn’t know that you’re fond of cars, I was totally surprised.
Despina:
IAA International Car Exhibition in Frankfurt has nothing to do with normal car exhibitions. You saw yourself how technology can help us drive into the future. Even though a lot of companies did not participate this year, this exhibition has always something new to show.
Despina: Vassilios:
The new designs of future cars actually left me speechless. Self-driving cars will be very famous in the future because accidents will be reduced and driving in general will be safer for all of us.
Did you see this huge – future
drone?
Vassilios:
You mean the future human surveillance? I’m just kidding. Of course, it was my favorite among the new models in the exhibition.
Moda Dynastie |
Despina:
My favorite, though, was the old time classic vehicles displayed on the ground floor. I could imagine ourselves, like actors in a 20’s movie, to drive across America in one of these vehicles!!!
Vassilios: Your
imagination really surprises me sometimes.
Despina:
Old time classic cars have their own uniqueness. Don’t you remember the “don’t touch” signs?
Vassilios:
You’re right, but I prefer the future technologies like those huge caravans that have space also for cars! It was absolutely fantastic.
Despina:
WAnd adventurous too. You don’t have to book a hotel. You just drive this huge caravan and inside is also your car. I haven’t seen before just an innovation.
Vassilios: I would like to go and visit the same exhibition in Japan.
Vassilios:
I Another expensive one. Every item in this exhibition was of a very high budget.
Despina:
it, why not?
For those who can afford
Despina:
I really love the idea. Future-unique-fashion cars. I love them all.
Vassilios: I was sure you do. .

It is 2019 and as we open our eyes each morning to begin a new day, we find ourselves in a digital age that operates at a constant pulse, a rhythm that beats faster than the pace of our hearts. Human technological expanse is at the pinnacle of its evolution and, as borders become permeable and physical distances grow shorter, people reach out to connect and understand each other. Every day, there are multitudes of conversations, across race, gender and nations. And in this exploration, societies find links that can be traced through our roots – culture’s pieces that are entrenched in history’s soil, bringing people together through music, art and stories. In this process, people see just how artistic expression not only links with its origins from the past but also evolves in new hues in the present day. Today, Coke Studio is on the twelfth chapter of its journey. Since its inception, Coke Studio remains a space that witnesses the subtle connections of cultures and peoples through music. This has happened on a crossroads that Coke Studio stands at, where paths intersect, attracting energies that come together to create a canvas with a myriad of colors. The canvas sees the attributes of Eastern tonality merge with Western structures, the wealth of knowledge of tradition meeting soundscapes of the present day and a collage of rhythms, notes, melodies and, ultimately, stories. This Season, music traveled to the Studio from far and wide, settling into our mixers and instruments, showing us that the well is far from running dry and that there is still so much to learn and create. From the country’s northernmost borders and westwards, from Balochistan, climbing mountains, frolicking through fields of wheat, and winding their way through sand dunes, voices came pouring through to share the legacies of their heritage and stories. In the soft vowels of Pashto, zesty flavors of Punjabi, and earthy tones of Sindhi, we heard Sufi tales on Divine love, ghazals that emanate nuances of the human condition and festive duets of romantic conversations between coy lovers, human emotions taking shape in words and melodies. Folk songs came to us, taught in village homes by mothers to their children, hand-in-hand with the words of philosopher-saints that echo in the shrines of the Subcontinent, followed closely by popular hits that have forever lodged themselves in our cultural memories.
Songs came down to us through the centuries, bringing with them ancient melodies and rhythms. From the hills of Kashmir, a sad empress called to us, writing lovelorn poetry for the husband who had been taken from her. Writing poems on the human soul, and musical compositions that would survive centuries, an ascetic stopped by the Studio as he travelled through the land, preaching his message of love and tolerance. Weary camel herders from Balochistan travelled to our studio, singing notes as they walked through hills and sand dunes, harmonizing their voices to suit the echo of the terrain. And in this process, the Past, the forever teacher, became our guide in the Present. Music, we found, is a continuing journey in which distinctions between past and present can become permeable. It is a collaboration between centuries and decades, one that will be ongoing as long as our collective memory survives.Within the Studio, we experimented with the new and old, bringing together a house band that has been part of Coke Studio’s family since its adolescence, with young talent that brought with them fresh understandings of the sounds and rhythms that came to us.

The pulse that kept the music alive was the percussions section, this year made up of Coke Studio veteran Babar Khanna, drummer Kami Paul, multi-percussionists Aziz Kazi and Hassan Mohiyuddin, and, Coke Studio’s first female house band member, Veeru Shaan. Creating the mood of the soundscape with their fills and progressions were bassist Kamran (Mannu) Zafar, guitarists Zain Ali and Sarmad Ghafoor, keyboardist Varqa Faraid, and multiinstrumentalist Amir Azhar. Providing the harmonic beds upon which our melodies were built were the backing vocalists Mehr Qadr, Rachel Viccaji, Nimra Rafiq, and Shahab Hussain. Musicians came to the Studio, those who we have been listening to since our childhoods, and whose voices we have come to love, alongside artists who were completely unfamiliar, who brought with them songs in which we could hear the texture of their land. A young boy, Kashif Din, came to us from Gilgit-Baltistan, having taught himself to make music on a broken laptop. The Studio was graced by Ali Sethi, who in one take managed to wrap up rehearsals for a ghazal written 75 years ago in a prison cell by a poet who dreamt of revolution. Organically, the pieces came together on the Coke Studio canvas, forming arrangements, beats, and patterns and, for the Studio, music became a process and a collaboration. In a world where there are multitudes of information, sounds and conversations to choose from, Coke Studio wishes to offer a space where one can contemplate the reverberations of a single guitar strum or the notes of a few piano keys. Traveling down the ladder of time, from the courts of the Delhi Sultanate and the music studios of pre-revolution Iran, through mountains and valleys, much like the water that trickles down from a natural spring, music came to Coke Studio’s canvas. At its core, Coke Studio remains an offering, a space where we share what has come to us, welcome to those who wish to join us on this continuing journey of exploration.” - The team at Coke Studio. Speaking about the launch of Coke Studio Season 12, the General Manager of Coca-Cola Pakistan, Rizwan U. Khan said, “Coca-Cola Pakistan is committed to share the values of unity and harmony through the universal language of music that transcends any cultural barriers or boundaries. With more than a decade of musical legacy with Coke Studio, we will keep striving to carry forward this beacon of hope and celebration through our firm belief in the power of music.”

Bending Gravity Photography Exhibition A successful, most visited and go-to exhibition was held on Syros Island, Greece. Photographer Nadia Kouloura converted our nature into an image. Bending gravity is to defy gravity‌Literally and metaphorically. Bodies that swing and move beyond the usual rules. When we are in balance and harmony with Nature, we conquer our inner balance. Harmony and synergy between our feminine and masculine side is achieved. When Existence is in contact and in harmony with Nature, magical images get revealed in front of our eyes. Athletes-dancers exercise every day with discipline and consistency, for many hours, in exercises-positions of balance and strength. Watching them exercise, the feelings of uplifting, euphoria and admiration are intense. The photographic lens captures this ethereal and dynamic encounter: the athletes-dancers, into natural landscapes, in total harmony with the environment. The sense that remains, is their persistent work and their focus in making perfect every movement, that gives this ethereal result. These magical images that Nadia Kouloura saw, and she wanted to share with all of us. After the exhibition finished in Syros, the photographic material will be exhibited in Athens, Greece. The photoshootings took place in collaboration with Angelos Andriotis, who is the founder and master trainer of International Calisthenics Academy, and the athletes Angelos Triantafyllou, Lydia Kollia and Ismini Maria Anemogianni.

• What’s your background in fashion? I started my career in Shanghai, China where I got a chance to work with one famous fashion house and to learn how to design and create clothes. After moving to Dubai, I founded my own fashion brand – MYKAFTAN.
• At what age did you start becoming fascinated with fashion? In general, I can say that I started becoming fascinated with fashion from the early age as most of girls who like to dress beautifully, look for their style and try to stand out from the crowd. All of us, girls, with some minor exception, are interested in clothes, style and fashion. However, the first time I got seriously interested in fashion industry and creation of clothes was when I moved to Dubai three years ago. This was the time when I got inspired by Arabic fashion; it really touched my soul and I decided to create my brand as a new vision of the local style.
• Where do you get your artistic inspiration from? First of all, it’s Arabic fashion, traditional modest wear – abayas, kaftans. Besides, I take inspiration from the local architecture, and especially its signature element – mashrabiya, projecting oriental windows – this is where I take inspiration for the laser cut designs. Architecture is a great source of inspiration for fashion.
• Have you ever felt to push the boundaries of creativity? This is what my brand is about. I’m trying to go beyond the stereotypes and rules. Who said that abaya must be black? Who said that a Western person can’t create modest fashion? I’m creating kaftans through my own vision and sometimes it might seem too brave; but this creativity has no rules and boundaries.
•
What is your brand philosophy?
MyKaftan is an interpretation of traditional Arabic style through my vision and experiences I had along the way; it’s the way I see modest fashion in the modern world, full of changes, diversities and mix of cultures. I believe that we, as generation of world citizens, should accept and embrace each other’s differences to live in the world of peace and tolerance. That’s why my brand is not only about fashion trends but also about connection and social values. Fashion has a power to influence humanity to make our world a better place, where everyone is accepted, regardless of his origin, identity or cultural differences.

My Kaftan-Vasilisa Kozhemiako Interview by Vassilios Nicolaos Vitsilogiannis
• What skills are important for a fashion designer for a successful career in the industry? First of all, to think outside the box. To have your own opinion and vision, not following others. Besides, it’s necessary to understand clearly what your product is about and whom you’re targeting. To survive in the industry, you also must be a business person and understand how to deal with supply chain, sales and accounting…. However, it’s always possible to hire a person to be in charge of that.
• Please tell the top three things in your styling kit that are must haves. -Kaftan is definitely a must have -Accessories, like earrings, scarf, bag… -Confidence is a must
•
How do you measure success?
By happiness of clients, first of all.
• Do you follow some trends for your looks? Definitely I do but I don’t follow them blindly. I pay attention on colors of the season and select them carefully; the same about fabrics, silhouettes, etc.
• What kind of style you would love to have in your outfits? The style I already have in my brand – feminine modest wear which creates flattering silhouettes and chic looks.
•
What fabrics do you use?
I use the fabrics which I import from Europe and order directly from Premiere Vision exhibition in Paris. My signature fabric is double satin which has amazing quality and touch, and also it’s very practical for daily use. I also use some fabrics with exclusive prints and embroidery.

• Name some celebrities who have worn your clothes. Rym Saidi Breidy (Tunisian supermodel); Dubai-based influencers: Diana Ganeeva, Eugenia Polyakova; Marriam Mossalli (Saudi-based influencer, BOF 500); Elaheh Nobahar (Iranian-based blogger).
• Do you find men and women welldressed today? It depends… With the diversity nowadays, everyone is different and free to express himself in his own way. You can like it and you can dislike it. I love these differences. The only thing I don’t really support is the tendency for ‘ugly fashion’.
• What sorts of things do you do to prepare yourself for an upcoming fashion shoot or show? To prepare for this, you should become a producer – calculate the budget; organize photographer, models, stylist, etc. Prepare the outfits, the location, the timings… A lot of things!
• How do you stay updated on current trends? Premiere Vision Show in Paris is the best place to learn about future trends. Also it’s always good to watch fashion shows, check trends on Instagram, street style fashion…
• What is your most memorable fashion moment? Good or Bad. By today, the most memorable was Dubai Modest Fashion Week where we had our first fashion show ever; that was definitely a great experience with a big impact on brand’s visibility and reputation. And the best is yet to come!
• What do you like and dislike in wearing a high fashion collection? Sometimes high fashion is not really practical and wearable. However, there are some pieces which are created just to be an art. For example, haute couture by Dutch designer Iris van Herpen whom I admire a lot. In my brand, I’m trying to make each piece wearable and applicable for different occasions but to have the finishing of high fashion level and recognizable design.
• Have you ever worn something that is totally out of fashion in your life? For sure I have, especially when I was a teenager.

• When is your next collection showcased?
• What role do you think social media/ influencers play in fashion today?
Fall ‘19
Huge. We live in a digital world and social media has a great influence on crowds. I think that one day it will change and people will pay attention on something else, but definitely not now.

your
background

•
How do you measure success?
At the age 25 I start becoming fascinated with fashion.
I’m guiding principles for me to express myself, to be who I am and free from stereotypes. People spend quite a bit of time choosing what to wear, and I am very excited that more and more modest boutiques and fashion trends, modest fashion weeks are popping up recently to increase the options of clients. And I think that this is a big success! Moreover, as a founder of Hijab Queen I am very happy that I can contribute to this process and support my peer women who share the same values as I do.
• Where do you get your artistic inspiration from?
• Do you follow some trends for your looks?
I get inspiration from the elements of traditional costume. In modern collections that appear on podiums, elements from the national attire of the Azerbaijani people are increasingly found. Bloomers, long skirts and outerwear became the basis of my collections.
Of course I follow some trends for my looks, but there are certain criteria that are the basis of the brand principals. For example, it should be modest and comfortable. This is important.
Hijab Queen has 5 years of its existence to conduct a number of activities to support local designers to promote modest fashion.
• At what age did you start becoming fascinated with fashion?
• Have you ever felt to push the boundaries of creativity? In Azerbaijan, what I am doing now is this innovation, and I am very proud to be engaged in the development Azerbaijan Modest Fashion
•
What is your brand philosophy?
Being situated in the middle between east and west Azerbaijani woman is striving to hold to and fight for her independence and life choices while not forgetting and respecting her roots and traditions. Understanding this need Hijab Queen is working hard to provide an umbrella for all Azerbaijani designers who are interested in modest fashion. For us modesty is not only about religious belief but more about a culture of resilience, mindfulness and temperance.
• What skills are important for a fashion designer for a successful career in the industry? You need to constantly work on yourself and spend a lot of time for development
• Please tell the top three things in your styling kit that are must haves. I would say 4: Modesty, Style, Individuality, Comfort
•
What fabrics do you use?
We use only pure silk with natural colorings.
• What sorts of things do you do to prepare yourself for an upcoming fashion shoot or show? We are preparing thoroughly. First we invent a story about the collection. Thinking through every detail. For example, The making of Kelaghayi (the silk headscarfs) consists of four stages : making the silk fabrik, making stamps, stamping the fabrik and finally dyeing, which is the most important stage of the whole process and is akin to a ritual, with each participant acting in strictly prescribed role.Only natural dyes made from plants, tree bark and flowers are used in dyeing kelaghayis.
• How do you stay updated on current trends? Thanks to the internet where we can get inspired and motivated
• What is your most memorable fashion moment? Good or Bad. On Dubai Modest Fashion Week, when I represented Azerbaijani designers in front of a large public and media. I was proud of the work that I have done.
Moda Dynastie |
• When is your next collection showcased? “Baku Fashion Expo 2019 Versace Edition”
• What role do you think social media/influencers play in fashion today? I think the most important role social media/influencers play in fashion today. Social media has become a part of our globally connected world in multiple ways, and most recently the fashion industry is seeing a major shift in its inspiration for designs and trends, all thanks to social media and blogging sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.

designer Design Powerhouse MAHGUL set to showcase bridal collection ‘Tales of Bijin’ at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2019
[Lahore, 20th September 2019]: MAHGUL is all set to unveil her latest bridal collection titled ‘Tales of Bijin’ closing day-2 of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2019.
‘Tales of Bijin’ is based on the power & magic of love & beauty. The collection is inspired by forklore where it is said that in a land east of the Sun, at a time immemorial, a deep darkness covered the realms of men and spirits alike. A stagnant decay pervaded the hearts of all those who entered. Until one day a beauty bloomed into existence that shone so bright it blinded all those around it by its sheer brilliance. Clad in drapery so fine the world had never seen before and radiating serenity it moved through the lands, warming the hearts of all those it touched. Once the world had been cleared of darkness — her mission accomplished — she lay down in a meadow wrote odes to beauty and love.
These “Tales of Bijin” were carried across the Seven Seas, personifying beauty, art and goodness. Her scrolls might have been lost but her fanciful stories carried wherever the winds and poets took them.
Speaking on her upcoming collection, Mahgul has said, “This collection is deeply embedded in the philosophy that love and beauty conquers all. Designed as clean and bold in equal measure, the Tales of Bijin plays on contrast in its motifs and mixing of cultural elements with minimal embellished silhouettes. Expect looks built up on texture using various textiles.”
Established in 2014, MAHGUL is critically acclaimed as one of the Sub-Continent’s most exciting fashion brands, having debuted at the prestigious PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week platform in 2013. The brand is best known for their edgy, avant-garde interpretation of Pakistani design. Their vision is for each creation to juxtapose elements of fine art with high-end fashion. The design house believes in dynamism and change, and works closely with craftsman to achieve new surfaces and provide work that is unique and evolutionary.

Indeed, the scholarship is directed at musicians between 20 and 30 years of age who have already gained some experience in the field of music and have a solid grasp of the English language. Natasha Noorani, selected via the worldwide network of Goethe-Institut, is a Lahore based singer-songwriter, playback singer, festival director and music promoter. As a musician, her music lies somewhere between the realms of contemporary R&B, neo-soul and progressive rock which can be heard in her debut EP ‘Munaasib’ (2018). Noorani has also collaborated with various Pakistani acts including Strings, Biryani Brothers, Ali Suhail, Sikandar Ka Mandar & Gentle Robot. Currently pursuing a MMus in Ethnomusicology from the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), Noorani also featured in the summer blockbuster film, Baaji, on the song Ye Aaj Mujh Ko Kya Hua as a playback singer for ‘Meera Ji’. Since its inception, Lahore Music Meet has brought together enthusiasts, artisans, artists, patrons, industry representatives and academics to initiate dialogue on the developments and shortcomings in music in Pakistan. Most recently, Noorani served as General Manager for the Pakistan’s leading music platform, Coke Studio Pakistan (Season 10) and has managed South-Asian pop duo, Strings.

T h e P ak is tani Ac ad e m y S e l e ctio n C o mmitte e no m i n a t e s “ LAAL KA BO O T AR ” f or O s c a r c o ns id e ratio n Kamal Khan [Director – Laal Kabootar]: “Humbled by the news! This is an extremely proud moment for the entire team, we are all very excited. Want to thank the Pakistan selection committee and audiences for giving Laal Kabootar so much love.” Asim Abbasi [Committee Member]:
Laal Kabootar is a rollercoaster ride featuring Ahmed Ali Akbar as Adeel Nawaz - a hustling taxi-driver, looking for a way out of Karachi. But with his back against the wall, Adeel has some hard choices to make. Aliya Malik, played by the alluring Mansha Pasha, is strong-headed to the point of being stubborn, however when her world turns upside down in a series of incidents, she chooses to put up a fight even though her life is on the line. With its action-packed sequences and blinding pace, the critically acclaimed film also stars multi-talent actors such as Rashid Farooqui, Saleem Meraj, Ali Kazmi, Shamim Hilali, Akbar Islam, Syed Arsalan, Saad Fareedi, Hammad Siddiq, Ishtiaq Omar, Meesum Naqvi, Faiza Gillani, Mohammed Ahmed and Kaleem Ghour to name a few. Laal Kabootar has been directed by the award-winning Kamal Khan with Harvard graduates Hania Chima and Kamil Chima as the Executive Producers.
"Laal Kabootar is one of the finest films to come out of Pakistan in recent years. Gritty urbanscapes and the dark underbelly of Karachi has never been explored and visualised for cinema like this before. Taut, crisp storytelling and first rate performances that grip you from the first shot and just doesn't let go."
The Oscar committee for 2019 was chaired by twotime Academy Award and Emmy winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and includes Zeba Bakhtiar [Director and Actress], Zarrar Khuhro [Journalist], Zebunnisa Hamid [Assistant Professor of Film Studies], Sarmad Khoosat [Writer, Producer, Director and Actor], Asim Abbasi [Film Director], Rizwan Beyg [Fashion Designer], Jamil Baig [CEO Nueplex Cinemas], Sanam Saeed [Actress, singer and former model] and Hamna Zubair [Journalist].
“Laal Kabootar offers some fantastic performances and a fresh yet gritty cinematic experience. Kamal Khan as a director shines as he takes you through the dark side of Karachi. Mo Azmi the DOP always captures the essence of any story beautifully, and Taha Malik's soundtrack keeps you hooked.”
Speaking about the selection of ‘Laal Kabootar’: Kamil Chima and Hania Chima [Producers – Laal Kabootar]: “This is very exciting news. This is a moment of immense pride for the entire team, from the investors who put their faith in us, to the cast and crew that worked tirelessly to tell a daring story.”
Rizwan Beyg [Committee Member]: “Out of all the films submitted Laal Kabootar stood out as a gritty real look at Karachi’s underbelly with nuanced performances by a bunch of very talented young actors. Shot cleverly and with solid direction it never wavered from its goal of showing the complexity of relationships between different classes in a teeming city battling terror and corruption. ...Reality bites.” Sanam Saeed [Committee Member]:
Sarmad Khoosat [Committee Member]: “Laal Kabootar is an authentic representation of the new wave cinema in Pakistan. Karachi’s raw and fierce beauty has never been shown like this on screen before.” Hamna Zubair [Committee Member]: "Laal Kabootar is the most sophisticated film Pakistani cinema has produced in the last few years. Laal Kabootar contrasts the desperation of modern urbanites with the healing power of human kindness. The result is spectacular."
